Local filming of scenes for the action-thriller film “Red Dawn” began in Grand Ledge on Monday, Nov. 16 and continued for four days.

Other scenes are being filmed in Detroit, Harper Woods, Royal Oak, Milford and Highland Township.

Producer Tripp Vinson said the scenery is what brought him to Grand Ledge.

“This location works really well for the movie. There are a lot of story points where we need a real wooded scenic location, and we found it here,” he said.

“I think the thing that has worked out the best for us is the ability to capture a really big movie,” Vinson said.

“What I mean by that is the locations that we found are very cinematic, so it adds a lot of scope to the movie. I think people are going to be surprised at how big this movie looks.”

Vinson said the choice of a Michigan location was not primarily driven by the state’s tax credit for movie makers, but that it helped.

“The primary reason we come to any location is that it is best for the movie creatively,” he said.

“The fact that there is such an aggressive incentive here is an added bonus, but I absolutely would not categorize it as the primary reason why we are here.”

The film tells the story of a group of teenagers who form an insurgency to defend their town when it is attacked by Chinese and Russian soldiers.

It is described as a “re-boot” of a 1984 film by the same name starring Patrick Swayze and Charlie Sheen.

This version will star Chris Hemsworth, previously seen in “Star Trek,” Josh Peck, previously seen in “The Wackness” and Adrianne Palicki, of “Friday Night Lights.”

The new film is scheduled for release in November, 2010.

Dan Bradley is directing the movie for Contrafilm Productions, and it is expected to be distributed by MGM.

Wednesday night means the beginning of the 4th season of Friday Night Lights will air on DirecTV. To celebrate one of the absolute best shows on television — that not enough of you are watching — here is part two of my three part series to get you more interested in the show.

FNL isn’t about football, despite the name, it’s about a city in Texas and the people and a community that defines itself by its football team. With excellent acting, particularly from Connie Britton and Kyle Chandler who are one of the best TV couples of all-time, and a strong ensemble cast, the stories are heart-felt, touching, humorous and exciting. And if you do like football, you have never seen more come-from-behind victories like Dillon High has. This show is phenomenal, every single person I have introduced it to has fallen in love with it, you will too. All you need is a desire to see quality television and everything else will fall into place.

Adrianne Palicki plays the role of Tyra Collette, the super hot vixen type whose character develops decides she wants to go to college and get out of Texas and manages to do so, all the while remaining jaw-droppingly hot. Tyra was due to graduate at the end of the last season, so it’s unclear how much a role she’ll play this season, but goddamn, she is a very fine actress and an absolute smokeshow.

Bettany stars as the archangel Michael who must stop another angel, Gabriel, from bringing about the apocalypse while humanity’s last hope lies in a desert diner. Did that get your attention? Yep? Good. Things are amping up for the film Women In Trouble. There is already work on a sequel following Carla Gugino’s porn star character Elektra Luxx.

For the moment though the focus is on Women In Trouble. There have been posters and now there are a number of other ways to follow the film.

More importantly you can use the excellent Demand It site to get the film showing near you – this has worked wonders for the low budget Paranormal Activity film.

It doesn’t look like this show is going to sustain itself very well as a long-form narrative. Either that, or my lack of interest in Voltron or any of its predecessors makes it less appealing to me. Maybe you’re out there drooling and still starting catatonic at your TV screen awaiting the next exciting installment.

I was glad to see it shortened to the traditional 15-minute Adult Swim format. It is easier to take in shorter bursts.

That’s not to say that it’s bad, because it’s pretty well put together. There are even some genuine moments of humor in it. Just not enough for me to consider it great.

I did get a kick out of Titan Maximum stealing the spotlight from the new statue unveiling, and then stealing the statue. But moments of true humor were few and far between, and moments of compelling drama were absent.

What I was left with was disappointment in the creative team behind Robot Chicken. I know they’re funnier than this, so what happened? Are they taking themselves and their concept too seriously? You named Billy Dee Williams Bitchface! Loosen up a bit.

I still like Leon, though.

I found this Supernatural music video recently. Anyway, the part where Sam says “Bobby” reminded me of when Kathy Griffin was talking about Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown on one of her TV specials. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find a clip of that specific moment. Anyway, if you know which clip I’m talking about, then you’ll see where I’m coming from. I just thought it was funny.

Guess what time it is? It’s Thursday!  Tonight’s episode of Supernatural is titled, “Free to Be You and Me”.  It takes up where last week’s episode left off.  Sam has decided to give up hunting but is visited by his dead girlfriend Jessica.  Played by none other than Adrianne Palicki (woot!) who just happens to be one of my favorite guest stars.  Also in this episode Dean is said to team up with Castiel to find the archanel Raphael.  Why? Because Castiel has the impression Rapheal knows where God is!

Sam also received another visitor in the form of Lucifer.  It’s suspicious that he receives visits from both of them……leaving me with a very important question.  How is Jessica there?  And is it connected to Lucifer?

As to Dean and Castiel doing a bit of hunting together, I just have this impulse to say to Castiel:  “Castiel, you’re great.  I’m glad Dean has an angel-friend on his side in all this apocalypse mess.  But I need to point out to you that Dean already has an angelic brother.  He doesn’t need another one.”
