One of my favorite quotes from 30 Rock is from the first season…Tracy Jordan’s advice to

One of my favorite quotes from 30 Rock is from the first season…Tracy Jordan’s advice to “live every week like it’s shark week.” Sharks have always been interesting to me, and obviously interesting to other people judging by movies like Jaws.
Planet Shark is a new traveling exhibit making it’s debut at the Georgia Aquarium. While there are no actual live sharks present in it, there’s plenty of cool features from fossilized shark poop to interesting shark facts.
Planet Shark will make you think differently about sharks…or so I would hope. We’re made to believe they are absolutely the scariest thing in the water, yet it’s not like they attack people that often. In fact, you’re 200 times more likely to be killed by a deer than a shark. Who’s the cuter animal now?
One of my favorite things was these touch screens that told you about all these different features of sharks, like how they can sense the electrical impulses of things around them. It also provided information on different kinds of sharks, so meet my new favorite… the glow-in-the dark, submarine biting cookiecutter shark :

(not cute at all but what awesome name and a sneaky little thing, right?)
Also super cool was the “frozen in time” mako shark and bluefin tuna fish…who weighs in at nearly 700 pounds.
In the totally creepy aspect of things, there is a display showcasing things that have been bitten by sharks. There’s a bitten and destroyed surfboard that looks like to a shark, it’s like breaking some styrofoam. Oh, there’s also some pictures of a guy who needed 400 stitches after being attacked. Don’t check that out right after you eat anything.
There is an additional cost to check out the Planet Shark exhibit, but it is well worth the money: with general admission to the aquarium it’s $31.50 for adults, $26.50 for seniors (65+), and $23.50 for children.
Check out the Georgia Aquarium’s website or twitter account, as well as Planet Shark’s for more information! Planet Shark is only in town for a limited time…not sure when it moves on to complete its world tour, but definitely check it out soon.

And since no pictures are allowed inside the exhibit, here are some pictures from elsewhere in the aquarium (I’ll have more on Flickr eventually.)

There is trouble in the Dells. The last king had been controlled by the human monster, Cansrel, and

There is trouble in the Dells. The last king had been controlled by the human monster, Cansrel, and between the two of them they made a mess of the kingdom. Now there are factions who want to take the kingdom away from young King Nash and war is on the horizon.

Monsters are terribly beautiful. They are shaped like any other animal of their species, but they come in vibrant colors. Monsters stun their prey with their beauty, and then take over their minds, making the prey that much easier to catch.

Fire, Cansrel’s daughter, is the last human monster. She is beautiful beyond words with hair the color of fire. Her appearance instills great passion in all who see her. Non human monsters want nothing more than to consume her and humans either love her or hate her.

King Nash sends for Fire so that she might interrogate strangers, assassins and supposed supporters to find out who the enemy is, what they are planning, and how to keep the country from falling apart. But, Fire is not like her father. She hated what Cansrel did with his power and she is afraid that if she uses her power, she will become like him.

But, first she has to get to King City. Imagine how hard that is when there are monster raptors dropping upon her from above, because they really, really want to eat her. Then there are the humans in the army surrounding her who really, really love her, or really, really hate her. (Imagine the love to be like that seen at a rock concert. Uncontrolled hysteria. Not everyone is effected that way, but enough are to become a problem.) It is a good thing that she has a guard of 20 people who know how to control their own minds.

Fire by Kristin Cashore is a companion novel to Graceling (a 2009 Teens’ Top Ten winner). You can read either one first. But, I expect that if you read one, you will really, really want to read the other.

We were at Hudson Grill in Alphartetta. And, yes, there were spirits involved.

…I’ll wager of several varieties.

I’ve said yes. And, our goal is for June 2010.

“Run, Lia, Run!” Shouted Lizi, as the two women sprinted through the forest. Footsteps could be hear

“Run, Lia, Run!” Shouted Lizi, as the two women sprinted through the forest.

Footsteps could be heard as their pursuers decreased the distance between them. The crying baby in Kalia’s arms was slowing them down. Sounds of a whip cracking echoed through the woods. Streaks of lightning crashed into the trees, sending shards of bark flying all around them.

“I need time to open up the gateway!” Lizi yelled while weaving through the trees.

Panic and fear gripped the two as they approached Crystal Lake. Dark silhouettes could be seen out of the corner of their eyes. The hooded men behind them sent streams of light shooting through the forest. Thunder clouds darkened the night sky as they ran. Lightning bolts lit up the path ahead, crawling along the ceiling above. The sounds of war rumbled in the distance behind them, but for Lia and Lizi, it no longer mattered.

As the two women sprinted to the edge of the sparkling water, Lia knew that her sister could not open the gateway before their pursuers caught up with them. Her only hope was to buy Lizi enough time to put the spell on the key.

“Lizi, I need you to take the baby and use the key. I will try and fight them off while you open the gateway,” Lia said firmly.

The calm in her sister’s voice was unsettling. At that moment, Lizi could tell that Lia had no intention of going with her.

“You can’t fight them alone!” Lizi said, tears pouring down her face.

“We don’t have time to argue! You need to open the gateway.” Lia’s order was final.

As she walked back towards the woods, Lizi saw her sister pause, and turn to face her. The moon had found its way through the thunder clouds above, shining down on them. A loving smile spread across Lia’s face. Moonlight shone on the small patch of grass along the edge of the lake. Lizi’s tears cascaded towards the ground. She held the key up to read the inscription, and then glanced towards the woods. Lia had already vanished.

Lizi recited the spell on the Keeper’s Key.

“Kal tu mon chalintiok.

Kamen zee hollow al buvar

Olom gartem xyzar ullar

Timir un…” (Crash)

A huge Douglas Fir toppled to the ground, missing Lizi by mere inches. She turned to see a large ball of blue fire escaping the forest canopy. Streaks of red and yellow darted across the blackness of the woods. Lizi only had a few seconds to complete the incantation.

“Timir unon bolvia getmalla

Yimbar salmee hualla nindar

“SONORA!” As she finished, Lia came limping out of the forest.

The water in Crystal Lake began to move. In a moment the gateway would engulf them.

“Lia! You can make it!” She shouted, unable to move without breaking the spell and closing the gateway.

Lia could hear the men behind her yelling orders to attack. Lightning streaked across the sky, followed by monstrous thunder that shook the ground. Lizi watched as her sister was attacked by the King’s assassins. The baby in Lizi’s arms was now silent, and for a moment, time stood still. She could see the same loving smile on her sister’s face that she’d known her entire life. Lizi loved her sister more than anyone in the world. Lia slowed to a stop in the tall grass. Behind Lizi, water was spinning rapidly and began to climb upward, defying gravity.

As Lizi stared at her sister, for what seemed much more than seconds, a small light appeared at the tip of Lia’s fingers. She glowed. Electricity was streaming from within her body, down through her arms, and into her hands. Balls of light were forming in her palms. Lizi could see the concentration and resolve in her sister’s face.

The hooded men inched out of the forest’s edge, unable to comprehend the sight of the large water tornado in front of them. One of the men saw the cyclone building behind Lizi and yelled to the others. What came next happened in an instant. Lia turned towards the men, clasped her hands together, and launched a flaming sheet of fire at them. A violent explosion sent the hooded men flying through the night sky. A huge cloud of debris from the explosion shot out in all directions. Noise reverberated across the lake, drowning out the thunder.

Lizi anticipated her sister’s move and put an energy field around her and the baby for protection. But even the energy field wasn’t enough to protect them from the force of the explosion. Lizi and the baby were sent flying through the air. Luckily, the gateway had finally opened, sucking them both down through the funnel of water and out of Sonora.

My name is Travis Hall. I’m an inspiring author who has written a young adult urban fantasy. The setting of this novel takes place in the little town of Sandy, Oregon. A young girl by the name of Allora is trying to survive high school. Allora is stubborn, emotional, and yearns for adventure.

Her life is altered when her hands burst into flames during cheerleading tryouts. Allora is thrust into a life of magic, danger, and adventure, which she was never prepared for. She meets many mythical creatures that help her to battle the evil assassins that have been sent by an evil King from a parallel world.

This world is called Sonora. A magical land that exists through the ancient gateways from Earth. These portals are guarded by the ancient organization of the Keepers. Each Keeper has a key that opens the gateway to Sonora. Allora meets one of the guardians of the gateways in the mountains above her hometown.

The guardian that watches over the gateway is a jovial famous creature known as Sasquatch. He prefers to be known as “Sas” though. Sas teaches Allora about the history of her people, and the conflict that brought her family, and friends to Earth.

Allora finds out that her friends are from Sonora as well. Tanner, Katie, Dax, and Allora are trained in the art of the Keepers in order to protect each other from creatures called Shifters, Rovers, and Wraiths. These magical assassins roam the territory in search of the kids.

Allora and her friends are forced to find a way to defeat the assassins. Their teacher, an eccentric historian by the name of Mr. Swan, has found pieces to a map that will lead them to ancient weapons that were used to fight powerful ancient creatures during the times of Greek mythology.

The search is on, and they don’t have much time. With every passing day, the creatures draw nearer. Soon they will find out that one of their classmates is more than appear to be.

Allora must find the confidence and inner strength to defeat the forces that conspire against her, because if she fails, it could mean the end of all that she knows.

In light of recent events, our immediate future is up in the air in the most extreme sense. It seems as though we’re learning about “Africa Time”. Similar to Hawaii time, but more drawn out. As there has been no communication with the Nairobi company for quite some time now, we’re exploring other options:

1- Bunker down during the winter, and take whatever jobs we can to scrimp by.

2- Take another contract to fill the winter void, and deal with the aftermath lather.

3- Focus on taking a longer contract that is a perfect fit and go for it (those are few and far between).

4- Wait for a confirmation of a contract for Africa that may never come.

Part of us wants to stay at camp. We’ve established ourselves there. It is home- as wet and cold as it may be at the moment… We’ve managed to save a bit, and I’d love to expand our garden next spring. We’ve just planted spuds and garlic for next year, and have kale starts sprouting. There is much left to do in the forest…

BUT- the other part wants to continue on in our journey. We’ve learned A LOT since we’ve been there, and it’s time to do it for ourselves. The longer we stay at camp, the more we’ll use it as a crutch to stay longer.

You kids are just so sweet with your comments.

Okay, Rage Sunday update.

But first, I find this terribly funny so therefore must write about it first. Two search terms that have popped up in the last day that have me cackling to myself:

“Fucking the tiny baby”

and

“I have mike in my tits”

What in the name of god is wrong with you people? I have baby fuckers being led to my blog by google. Thanks google!!!!!

Onward….

In spite on two hangover cokes and two excederin my head still feels like it’s full of mashed potatoes. So I guess that means it was a good rage night. We all know I’m not very funny when I’m hungover and Tay Tay Jenkins arrival is imminent so I’m going to make this brief.

1. One thing I’ve realized is that whenever I got to Rontoms, when I first walk in I’m overwhelmed by all the bearded and stylish men. I think, “Holy shit, this is why I love Portland! So many hot guys!”. But then an odd thing happens when I start drinking. Instead of getting cuter they all start to become less and less attractive. Backwards, eh? I notice that this one is 5′5″, that one has food in his beard, the one over there reeks of STDs, that one looks like Spock (not a bad thing until you add in a 1980’s windbreaker). So Lucy and I rolled straight through a bar full of men to the patio and struck up a conversations with the only 45 year old dudes in the bar. They hand rolled us cigarettes while we told them about our plans to start a brothel in Port Townsend with “classy, smart Canadian whores”.

2. Tiny Baby texted me at 11:30 to ask where I was. You can’t tell a girl “I can’t get you out of my mind, I want to see you Sunday” and then not get in contact until almost midnight. FAIL. We moved on to a bar closer to home where I could get sauced without having to worry about driving. Tiny Baby continued to text and at some point I told him I would slap the shit out of him which he liked and asked me to tell him more. Oh, drunk texting. God bless it.

3. For some reason Lucy’s friend who invited us to that hipster art party last weekend was texting her that he thought I was hot and would have hit on me had he known I was single. This turned into two hours of Lucy giggling drunkenly while texting back and forth with him until she actually gave him MY phone number and he started texting me. I think I may have said something offensive. I could go back and piece it together through my sent texts but I can’t muster up the enthusiasm. I think I was trying to get him to talk dirty which he said he doesn’t do on the “first text”. Then he asked me to drinks and I said something about all young boys being lame. He’s 25…oooops. Oh well, he looked way too much like a guy I used to fuck back in the bay area. It would have been like re-fucking but having to add another number to the list.

4. Did I mention my head hurts and that I’d much rather be back in bed but I’m waiting for Tay Tay on the couch while the dog gets as close as possible to my lap while my laptop is on it resulting in me basically typing this with one good hand and one gimp hand? Awesome.

5. Oh, also, I saw The Bartender last night at Rontoms. He barely made eye contact with me. Ooops. Not that I did anything bad to him other than not want a second date. I was not drunk enough to explain to him that it’s because he looks like Gregory Hines. Lucy was drunk enough to loudly proclaim that I didn’t need to be dating “wannabe actors” right in front of him. That got her a stern look and a smack from me.

6. As many guest appearances as Lucy makes in this blog I feel like she should have her own little about me section. I’m like the main character on a TV show but she’s the sidekick that everyone loves more and who will eventually get her own spin off show. In which she will just get hammered and yell at people and talk to old man strangers about whores and literature.

7. Speaking of literature, while talking to the old men last night one of them mentioned Steinbeck to which I shouted “FUCK STEINBECK!”. The look of terror and disgust on the guy’s face was priceless. But really, eat my shit, Cannery Row.

This wasn’t very short was it? Shit. Oh well. I was on a roll. Plus when I’m typing I want to puke less. But my arm is falling asleep from the dog weight on it.

Tay Tay adventure blogs next time!

OH! As I was proofreading this Lucy’s art hipster friend texted me. He said his mom will let him borrow the car to take me out if he gets it back to her early. I was really fucking confused for a minute until I realized he’s poking fun at me making fun of his age. Duh. Now he needs a blog nickname. But motherfucker, go out with ANOTHER young dude? Should I? Ugh.

Shadow
Demon
Soul
Spirit
Divine
Psychic
Answers
Enemies
Heroes
Truth

Staff of Light
Fans of Air
Sword of Fire
Sword of Flame
Goddess of Light
Goddess of Earth
Goddess of Water
Banished Soul
I love you
My destiny
I will destroy you
Demon of the haunted one
Beautiful Goddesses
Beautiful Dancers
Heaveanly cat
I will kill you
Brainwashed person
I am psychic
Hard to do
The ultimate sacrifice
Searching for answers
I love the war
I am freed
Listen to your heart
Light is the enemy
We will fight to the end
The True Keepers (like keepers of peace)
Good people
Lady Luck

Names: (If there are multiple kanji/kanji combinations for a single name, can you please present them all, and can I have all the names with their kanji’s meanings, please?)
Kentari
Alli (Katakana if no kanji)

I know it’s a lot, it’s a big list, so could you try to translate as much as you can, it will be appreciated.
Kanji PLEASE! I need the kanji for designing the costumes and other things, I can’t use hirigana and katakana.
"prETTygi… ", your answer made no sense, "Neameli… ", thank you for trying. I’m not trying to be picky but I did ask for Kanji, and the English next to them so I know what was translated. Sorry if I’m being rude or mean.
