The Library is making a Princetown Winter Garland of wintery words to display in the foyer of the community centre. Please come along and give a word to add to the poem.

The Garland will be on display from Wednesday the 9th of December until Thursday the 24th of December.

The open event takes place at Princetown Library anytime between 10am and 12 noon.

Guinness launches its most ambitious ad yet. In a parallel with the way a pint of Guinness is created, the ad shows a group of men bringing “a world to life.”

Taking on the extreme challenge of creating this epic ad, director Johnny Green recruited an elite team including Oscar winning set designer Grant Major and Oscar nominated Director of Photography Wally Pfisher.

THE Great Hall is buzzing today thanks to the largest band it has ever hosted!

Josh’s Band (from the infectious T-Mobile ads) was here to film the latest instalment of his national tour around the UK.

Already, Birmingham, Bristol, London and Edinburgh have heard the catchy tune that accompanies the ads – and today was Manchester’s turn.

Loads of shoppers were roped into the ad – and even a couple of our red coated Security staff picked up tambourines.

The advert will air from next week – and we know you won’t be able to miss the stunning Great Hall chandelier right in the centre of shot!

Duncan Jones made the excellent Sci-Fi film, Moon. Kevin Spacey starred in it as the voice of Gerty the computer.

Now they are together again in a series of adverts for a new Olympus Camera.

Nice ads but doesn’t Spacey look old.

She favoured tight braids during the early stages of her Girls Aloud career and now Cheryl Cole has rediscovered the look.

The X Factor judge left rehearsals last night sporting two cornrows down one side of her head with the rest of her mane pined back into a loose bun.

Dressed in gradual fade jeans, a grey blazer and the same colour shoe-boots, she stopped to sign autographs for fans as she headed home for the evening.

She was joined by a black puppy – she has famously admitted she trusts her canine companions more than husband Ashley – which she escorted out in a fluffy bag.

Cheryl’s hair has almost taken on a life of it’s on in recent weeks.

Her famous dark mane secured her a lucrative deal with L’Oreal, but the advertisements went on to attract a fierce backlash.

In the campaign for Elvive Full Restore 5, a shampoo and conditioner range, she credits the products with making her hair ‘full of life’.

But it received complaints it was ‘misleading’ because it makes little reference to her £1,000 hair extensions.

This week she swapped those famous tumbling brunette curls for a bold suicide blonde wig in the new video for her upcoming single, 3 Words.

Of course, the 26-year-old is concerned with more than just her hairstyle today – she is preparing to cheer on her X Factor proteges Lloyd Daniels and JoeMcElderry tonight as they take on Elton John and Take That.

Joe, who received a standing ovation last week by all four judges, is set to perform Elton’s Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word and Take That’s Could It Be Magic.

Lloyd will sing I’m Still Standing, appropriately enough, and A Million Love Songs.

Joe is the 13/8 favourite to scoop the £1 million recording deal while Lloyd is widely expected to be eliminated on Sunday night.

He been an ‘emotional wreck’ this week, according to producers, and has been comforted by his mentor after threatening to quit.

It acutally seems that were getting back into some sort of blogging routine, which can only be a good thing, but hey if other people can multi-task and manage it so can we – at least thats the plan!!  The wierd thing is I call this advert of the week, but I haven’t sat down and watched any tv with adverts in it, which makes this slightly harder than perhaps it should be.

Can you guess what it is yet, That reminds me, product placement I really am drinking one right now!

Girls Aloud singer and X Factor judge Cheryl Cole is facing down claims of possibly deceiving fans. According to online reports, the issue surrounds ads she did for L’Oreal’s Elvive Full Restore 5. She is shown with beautiful wavy locks and she states, “My hair feels stronger, full of life, replenished with a healthy shine.”

In the opinion of many who have seen the ads, Cole may have also replenished with help from hair extensions. Although a disclaimer is posted during the commercials saying, “styled with some natural extensions” many viewers feel this is not enough. It was enough for the UK’s Advertising Standards Authority, however, as the body declined to take action against L’Oreal. For the record, Cole has admitted in the past to using hair extensions for “extra body.”

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Ten Tors an ‘Anniversary Booklet’ is being produced. The organizers are inviting writers to submit poems on the theme of Dartmoor and the Ten Tors to win the opportunity of seeing their poem published in the booklet. The prize winner will be announced on January 15th during Tavistock Library’s Showtime event at 7.30pm. The three runners up will also have their poems read aloud at this event. The competition winner will also receive a copy of the booklet in which their poem appears.

Rules:

• The theme is a celebration of Dartmoor and the Ten Tors competition;
• The competition is open to anyone over the age of 13;
• The poems should be typed, or clearly handwritten on one side of an A4 sheet of paper;
• The entrant’s name. address and telephone number should appear on the reverse side of the sheet;
• The poem is to be no more than 16 lines in length including the title (and a maximum of 100 words);
• You may submit a maximum of three poems;
• Entry is free;
• Entries are to be sent, or handed in to Tavistock Library, The Quay, Plymouth Rd, Tavistock, PL19 8AB;
• The poems will be judged by the librarians at Tavistock library in consultation with the booklet coordinator;
• No poems will be returned so please do keep a copy;
• The closing date is Thursday the 24th of December.

DJ IQ is one of the sickest DJs in the UK, not only that but he’s also a crazy producer. This promo video showcases some of the beats from his forthcoming project entitled “Flashing Lights” which drops November 30th.

I’ve always loved this advert. I think the Visuals are amazing, the song is great (Under My Wheel’s by The Prodigy). Truly inspirational, the Kaleidoscope look works, and I think display of colour contrasts to the next. This is a good example of the Drum & Bass genre in advertising, or being used to with heavy visuals, its has an animated aesthetic to it, as well. I feel I can learn from the spontaneity of the chosen subject, but also the pace of the advert and the use of fast paced music.

The effect is shocking; the message brutal: every short haul flight you take emits four hundred kilogrammes of carbon dioxide – the equivalent weight of an adult polar bear.

You know what ever since I saw this (back in the day where I actually watched tv) I have never forgotten it. It’s one of those commercials that you just don’t forget you know?! Today I finally actually went on youtube to look for it and was ecstatic to see that I’m not the only one to find it hilarious. I found the vid straight away and when I played it, I couldn’t help but laugh.

You know that feeling you get when you hear an old song,
and it just makes you feel the way you did when all you did was rinse the song out.
That’s what I also felt when I watched this video.

But for real. It’s kinda genius. =D

How about this as a video of the week? Nothing better than enjoying a chilled, wholesome bottle of Coca Cola. Admit it, you know you want to. These insects definitely don’t seem to mind the sweet taste.

GIRLS ALOUD star CHERYL COLE has come under fire over revelations she wore hair extensions to promote a shampoo range.

The singer-turned-reality show judge appears in a series of TV adverts for cosmetics giant L’Oreal, as the new face of the Elvive haircare range.

The promos show Cole sporting a head of long, shiny locks and promising consumers the shampoo makes “hair feels stronger, full of life, replenished with a healthy shine”.
But the company has been flooded with complaints after Cole’s hairdresser revealed the star’s luscious locks are not all her own – as she was wearing extensions in the adverts.

Disgruntled TV viewers have also taken their grievances to Britain’s Advertising Standards Authority (ASA), but watchdog bosses aren’t able to uphold the complaints because of a small disclaimer in the ads which admits Cole’s hair was “styled with some natural extensions”.

A company statement from L’Oréal reads: “Cheryl has worn hair extensions for some time. They are part of her look and are cared for in the same way as normal hair.”
While a spokeswoman for Cole adds, “L’Oreal are within their rights and the ads are not breaking any rules. We would never comment on what type of hair extensions Cheryl is using because these are quite personal questions.”

Cheryl Cole’s L’Oreal advert is inaccurate? Well knock me down…

A growing number of viewers, er… 13 at the last count, have complained to the Advertising Standards Authority because Cheryl Cole doesn’t mention the fact she uses hair extentions in her TV adverts for L’Oreal shampoo and conditioner.

So an advert for a beauty product is accused of being, shall we say, a little bit economical with the actuality.

Well, knock me down with a powder puff. Whatever next? Jedward came out of the womb with those quiffs?

I’m not a Disgusted of Tunbridge Wells – I’ve never complained about anything before. But recently, after seeing the Cheryl Cole advertisement for L’Oréal Elvive Full Restore 5 shampoo and conditioner during one of X Factor’s commercial breaks, I decided to complain to the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA).

I have two daughters, the youngest of whom is nine, and she wanted to buy Elvive shampoo because she wanted her hair to be like Cole’s. I said no, she couldn’t buy it, because Cole’s hair, as everyone knows, is hair extensions, which means she has either real hair or the kind of plastic thread they use to make fishing lines, sewn in. So my daughter said, “Well then, how does the shampoo make her hair better?” So I had to explain that advertisements don’t always tell the truth. At which point I decided to complain to the ASA.

We do have a responsibility to teach our kids that advertisements are 99% false. My older daughter said, “Oh Mum, stop making a fuss! Everyone knows that adverts lie.” But I’m not sure everyone does. I’m not sure tweens do. Every girl wants to look like Cheryl Cole; I want to look like Cheryl Cole! And this is advertising capitalising on Cole’s X Factor success, convincing people to buy a shampoo to try to get hair that you won’t get unless you are prepared to spend £1,000 on hair extensions.

In the advert she says, “My hair feels stronger, full of life, replenished with a healthy shine. It’s got its mojo back.” No, the extensions on your head have given your hair its mojo back. And then you look through the adverts in any women’s magazine and hair is false, the eyelashes are false, the teeth are painted on. You start to wonder if anything is real.

The ASA said it couldn’t uphold the complaint as the adverts have a disclaimer. But the disclaimer – “styled with some natural hair extensions” – is up for two seconds of a 30-second ad, in the tiniest print imaginable, and in the print version it’s 2mm high.

I have nothing against Cole at all. If I were her I would definitely take the money from a venal shampoo company to advertise its shampoo. But I do think that L’Oréal should look a bit harder at who it uses to promote its products, and the ASA should be a bit tougher. It is a wet body.
Advertising: it pays to read the small print

Eyelashes Blink and you’ll miss it, but the new Rimmel ads starring pop star Sophie Ellis-Bextor include the disclaimer: “Filmed with lash inserts and enhanced in post production.” The company was in trouble with the ASA last year when similar adverts featuring Kate Moss omitted any disclaimer.

Phones The advert for Motorola Pebl shows phone-owners skimming their Pebls across a stretch of water. In case you were tempted, the ad boasts the following disclaimer: “Fictionalisation: Pebl phone is not water resistant.”

Drugs The website for US sleep aid Ambien shows a large rotating pill, upon which stand five people, all of whom propound the advantages of the drug. Lest you were confused, the site has two disclaimers printed beneath the giant tablet: “Not actual patients” and “Not actual pill size.”

Computer games “Not actual game footage” has become a relatively common disclaimer, after several computer games, among them Call of Duty 2: Big Red One, were criticised for using footage that was superior to the graphics in the actual game.
