CLEANING FOR A REASON

GAMBLE HOME SERVICES has partnered with Cleaning for a Reason, a non-profit foundation, to offer free house keeping services to women in our area under going cancer treatment, with the goal of offering support and simplifying the lives of these women.

The debilitating treatment and effects of cancer puts a heavy burden on women in every aspect of life. The world around these women is, in many ways, falling apart.  The battle with cancer and the health of these women becomes their number one priority, and everything else falls to the wayside.  It takes away the ability to perform simple daily activities. Routine tasks of day-to-day life, like cleaning the home, now become more complicated and burdensome.  Our hope is to lighten up the lives of these women by picking up this load.

Cleaning for a Reason is the only 501c3 non-profit corporation in America providing free professional house cleaning services to women.  Formed three years ago in Lewisville Texas, the foundation has grown rapidly.  Today there are over 470 partners offering free cleaning services to women throughout the United States and Canada.  Its partners have donated $240,000 worth of cleaning services to over 1,500 women with cancer nation wide.

Well it is Christmas Eve Eve and I havn’t put a post up in a while..

Christmas is the best with kids, and especially when they believe in Father Christmas. But a one point they might start doubting whether he exists. So what you will have to do is help them keep track of where he is on Christmas Eve (that’s tomorrow! woooo – got to put the stocking up and bake some cookies). I found this on the Shelter website about a week ago. Shelter being the charity of choice for the Rage against the Machine Campaign for Christmas #1, which is unbelievable! I was on the Rage side, bought my single too..

But they have some nice things on here to do as well.

Such as get a video from Santa, send some e-cards, bling up your house on Google Maps, (it’s a bit late, but) buy some christmas cards, and of course donate to the charity.

Just something which I learnt recently as well – Father Christmas as we know him today was not actually the concept brought about from Coca-Cola. In the old days newspaper vendors stood on a street corner and yelled, “Extra, extra, read all about it.” Now they can truly say, “Extra, extra . . . nobody cares.” Large urban daily newspapers are quickly becoming dinosaurs in today’s fast-paced media world. According to an article in the Wall Street Journal dated October 27, 2009, the average weekday newspaper circulation for the six months ending on September 30 dropped nearly 11%. The San Francisco Chronicle lost 26% of its readership. The Los Angeles Times lost 11.05% and the Houston Chronicle lost 14.24%.

There are many reasons for the dramatic loss of subscribers that has been snowballing for several years. A large percentage of the big city newspapers are so biased (generally left-wing nutcase liberal bias) that except for the very small audience of radical whackjobs nobody else wants to read this drivel. In addition, the general public is more attracted to other forms of media that offer real-time content rather than something that was printed several hours earlier.

So, how have the large urban newspapers responded to the decline in readership? Not the way a normal business would react. You or I would do something different – we would change our product to make it something that people would want to buy. But the large urban newspapers are being run by a bunch of arrogant geniuses who clearly think they know better about what their customers want than the customers themselves! These newspaper tycoons have reduced the number of sections; reduced the physical dimensions of the paper; eliminated TV program listings and other features, and drastically increased the advertisements. I recently surveyed a number of urban papers and found in many cases there was only one article on a page with anywhere from 75% to 90% of the page consumed by ads.

Does this sound like a business model that makes any sense whatsoever? I hope every one of these publications bites the dust within the next 12 months. I will stand up and loudly applaud as each one goes down for the count. Meanwhile, newspapers in smaller towns as well as a number of the suburban weeklies are thriving. Why do you suppose this is? I think it has a lot to do with the fact that they publish unbiased stories of local interest. Let’s stop killing trees and cancel our subscriptions to the big city newspapers. And watch out. The next thing that Congress will do is approve a bail-out for these worthless bottom-of-the-birdcage rags. Arggghhhhhhh.

The Misnomer(s) have been featured in an ad for the upcoming video game “Def Jam Rap Star”. They have a couple shots in the ad and it’s awesome to see them representing! Let’s hope one day their songs will be in the actual game too. These girls are no strangers to being featured in ads as they’ve done work for other companies such as Target as well.

Of course, if I had a nickel for every time some company or other told me their product was proof of my adventurous bachelor lifestyle, I’d be posting this from the tropical island I would own by now. Lately, there’s been a glut of brands telling me this, and their examples of cool, spontaneous people, Tanqueray’s included, have this smarmy, young Hugh Hefner vibe to them that I don’t appreciate. Aren’t there less obvious ways of getting this message across? And if not, could they at least wait until every other liquor brand under the sun isn’t doing the exact same thing anymore?”
