Since finishing the brick advertising challenge I have been working on another advertising brief. We

Since finishing the brick advertising challenge I have been working on another advertising brief.
We have been challenged to create an advertising campaign for a charity or cause and I have chosen to try and stop texting while driving.

Did you know that texting whilst driving is 3 times more dangerous than drink driving!? A study by the RAC Foundation found that reaction times were slowed by 35% when 17-24year olds drove while reading and writing text messages.

However, it is not only young people that text and drive; many older drivers think that their experience will stop them from being distracted from the road – but it doesn’t!

I have chosen this as my campaign subject because I don’t think the problem is highlighted enough, with big campaigns about drink and drug driving only.

My ideas are based mainly around the language of texting, using shocking/harsh messages to enforce the reality of the problem.

Here is the first draft of my advert:

Click here to see it 100% (As always it is only a PNG so a bit blurry)

This is not the final image, I still want to sort out the:
- Type alignment
- Typeface (I want a more rounded font I think?)
- The exclamation mark needs to be white
- The top right image needs to be blurred to show movement

Any comments/opinions/ideas for improvements?

Photo: Daniel Wildman | Stock.xchng When the dragons start their interrogation of entrepreneurs, one

Photo: Daniel Wildman | Stock.xchng

When the dragons start their interrogation of entrepreneurs, one of the most essential questions they ask is “How do you make a profit?” In other words: How is it a business? How do you make your money in this setup? What is your business model?

The past seven seasons have, of course, brought a variety of entrepreneurs into the den, so we’ve had the privilege to see many business models falling under the scrutiny of the investors. Franchises, exclusive clubs, licensing, retail, and pyramid (!) schemes are just some of the many models presented before our fierce five. Very often, after a thorough dissection of them, the dragons are simply unconvinced that they could work, i.e., that they could make money.

It’s really very important to determine what the business model is from the outset. Just today, I was reviewing another DD episode, when I came upon a father-and-son team hoping to sell their ladder box invention. When Theo Paphitis asked them what their plan was (to make money, of course), the son answered, “We’ll sell lots of them”. Nice quick answer but very ambiguous. After all, every business IS supposed to sell something (product or service), but the how-to of it must be nailed down pat to leave no room for doubt as to its viability. That’s what a business model answers.

Again, flashback to my early days as an entrepreneur. It’s now cringe-worthy that in those times, I used to talk at length about the quality of CAN-DO! but very little about how it could be profitable. And, of course, these days, with publishing establishments falling by the wayside almost every week, I can’t just simply rely on selling the usual advert space, even if advertising is the recognised bloodline of magazine publishing. So one of the primary questions I’ve now learned to ask myself: What is my business model here? How do I intend to make money from this?

Very soon, a new thing will start with CAN-DO! (Teaser!) And even as I’m excited about its possibilities, I’m making sure that my entrepreneurial neck is steadily holding up my head. I have to focus on the fact that the new thing is not just an opportunity to be more creative. The bottom line question is “Is there a solid business model behind this new thing?”

I’ll end this point of reflection by sharing a link my assistant gave me today. It’s a short article in a Kenyan newspaper, detailing a “futuristic” business model, appropriate for e-commerce entities like CAN-DO! It’s something I’m currently marinating on as I figure out the new business model for our new thing in CAN-DO!

Personalisation and customisation is steadily becoming a favoured business model of many online busi

Personalisation and customisation is steadily becoming a favoured business model of many online businesses. Many online websites use personalisation as a means of gettin to know customers by observing their viewing habits and from the information gathered, recommends items/services that might be of interest. Many users feel that the process is evasive. Privacy is a massive issue when discussing personalisation; many users would prefer to have the option to remain anonymous.

In my opinion, personalisation is an effective web tool helping you and the organisation in many different areas. Personalisation saves the user time, in terms of entering repetitive details. Users can enter details (such as transactional details) on a website and the website may use personalisation as a way of saving the information for the user to use in the future. Online e-commerce sites use personalisation as a way of recommending you products on the basis of your purchase (search) history.

Amazon is a prime example of personalisation at work. When you log into your account, you can click on your personal account page, which gives details of your purchase history and recommended items.

When I log into my account page, I am able to see dynamic recommendations. These recommendations can enable the user to be introduced to new products/services where they might not have known/noticed before.

Amazon also saves your recent history, so you can easily click your account page and then click the item in question without having to type its name into the search bar. Organisations, such as Amazon, can filter out irrelevant information based on recently viewed products to deliver relevant, interesting products/services to the user.

However, many users don’t like the idea of using their personal information (viewing history) to determine an option. Many feel that sharing personal information is a great risk that can lead to irrelevance or infringements. Certain websites monitor the user’s activity and accumulate adverts based on keywords or user activity. A major example of this type of act taking place is on the popular social networking website ‘Facebook’.

When you log into Facebook, you’re immediately greeted by adverts placed directly at the side of the window. From personal experience, many of the adverts generated are irrelevant and clutter your ‘personal’ space.

Certain aspects of your interactivity is recorded and used to generate adverts. Facebook can pick up on an individual keyword through your Facebook search history or on your personal space and then immediately start displaying adverts, which may not even be relevant.

Examples of advertisements on Facebook

I feel that this is a poor example of personalisation as it can be classed as a nuisance, due to the positioning of the adverts and also due to relevance. But, if you see an advert, which may be irrelevant, Facebook have installed a feature that can enable the user to block the advert to avoid appearing on their web space.

Personally, I feel that personalisation is a great way to interpret data and to present a meaningful array of options to the user. Personalisation in order to be effective needs to be done appropriately without being ambiguous, users need to be told what information is being recorded, in what manner and are they given the option to not take part. Personalisation is a useful in terms of introducing new products/services to the user and to make users aware of certain events/products/services through the use of advertising. Websites can gather customer interactivity and then display adverts based on the topic area. By giving relevant details to customers, they will in turn be more inclined to return to the website due to it’s reliability.

Microsoft’s new Windows 7 OS launched a month ago now, apparently it’s much better than

Microsoft’s new Windows 7 OS launched a month ago now, apparently it’s much better than Vista apart from a few minor bugs (I still rep the XP)… But that’s neither here nor there. The adverts are singularly the worst creations ever!

Since Apple publicised the ad campaign where they labelled PCs as ‘Office Drones’, Microsoft have gone well out of their way to show that they are hip and down with the kids yo! Most annoyingly though, they’ve done it through these bloody adverts where random members of the public claim that they ‘did’ something that somehow made them have the right to claim that they ‘created’ Windows 7…

Crystal is probably the worst offender out of the 4 I’ve seen so far (Frankly, I don’t want to see any more). She claims that she ‘told’ Mircosoft to put a taskbar in, which, if you look down now, you will see there’s one already there, and if you’re lucky enough to own Windows 7 you’ll see ‘her’ glorified version. But… she seems to think that single handedly sprucing up the taskbar, an element of an OS which is so minute (a lot of people just alt+tab there way through open programs), allows her to claim creation rights over Windows 7 when all it is, is a gimmick. What a self-obsessed berk. Here’s Crystal’s shot at stardom.

Crystal only just beat one of the other perpetrators of this advertising campaign. This particular one consists of a girl in a University library who mouths off about some new idea for Windows 7. Next, she has the audacity to ask Microsoft to pay her rent for the trouble of ‘thinking up’ an element to be used in the OS. Then to top it off, after being told to shut up by the library employee she decides to shout at the top of her (very weak) voice that she created Windows 7. Not only has she broken ALL the rules, she’s also a prize berk!

Whilst we’re on the subject, I’ll leave you with Charlie Brooker’s ‘Top 10 Cocks and She-Cocks of Advertising’

Taking an example from other CAS Coordinators, I decided to go for a blog that will post messages about CAS opportunities in our school. In a month time you will find all necessery forms and guidebooks here. You will also find inspirations of how other people work. Here is one of them:

British International School

You will also find posting about new volunteer opportunities and actions. For December we are already planning:

Pomóż Dzieciom Przetrwać Zimę – on December 4th we will be collecting food, toys and clothes for children from lower financial status families

Money collecting for the “Open your heart” found – on December 18th to 20th we will be packing food and collecting money for poor children

I am also opened for your suggestions. Other actions we can do before Christmas are “Szlachetna Paczka”, collecting money for homeless and making presents for poor children.

I hope you will enjoy this blog. Comment please!

“The Milky bar kid is strong and tough, and only the best is good enough.” You’re probably already onto “the creamiest white” and the “milkiest bar”, never mind the enthusiastic blond kid with glasses, and that’s because brand names are remembered best when seared into our minds as youngsters.

So says Andy Ellis at the University of York and colleagues, who found that words, objects and faces learned early in life are recognized more fluently than similar items learned later.

This means that early acquired brand names, whether it’s a type of chocolate bar, a shampoo or an aftershave, are recognized more quickly than later acquired brands.

The researchers even found that the older participants recollected brand names of products that they acquired at a young age, but were now extinct, much quicker than those products that were readily available today.

What does this mean to you?

A kid might not have use for an aftershave today, but if they hear your jingle enough, your brand will be the first they reach for the day they see the first chin hairs poking through…

You can find more details of the research here.

As adsense becomes the most popular publisher program for Price per Click advertising, flaws and dis

As adsense becomes the most popular publisher program for Price per Click advertising, flaws and disadvantages still exist. Since its inception advertisers have chosen to advertise in search because they felt that visitors would be less targeted. This is a genuine concern and one that makes perfect sense. If you are visiting a website, and notice an advert then the chances are you are not particularly concentrating on its content.

Adsense has also become so popular that people can distinguish them from other adverts. Therefore people may choose to ignore them without even paying them a thought. This has been a hot topic discussed by Bloggers and one that could contain a lot of truth. Many have blamed Google for this, and their decision to include text that says “ads by Google” beneath the advert.

Many publishers also fail to ever gain the revenues they anticipated when starting the program. Those only gaining 30 – 40 visitors a day to their website would be unlikely to earn even one dollar a day. Many advertisers talk of rates such as 1.5%- 5% for traffic to click conversion, whilst only gaining around $0.10 per click. The maths doesn’t work out great, but you can hardly blame advertisers or Google if you are not bringing enough traffic. The key is to bring targeted traffic to your website that are likely to click on adverts, however it is said that it may be easier on other programs which allow figures such as 75% share of advertising revenues for publishers.

Another disadvantage in adsense is that it has almost become tacky. Its appearance on websites that generally appear to be designed in a DIY fashion has lead people to associate them inextricably. This can only be tackled through adsense evolving to be more attractive to the bigger brands, whilst those who currently use adsense are restricted.

Google Adsense also has to tackle the issue of click fraud which is anticipated to count for over 15% of click through rate in content. This has meant that advertiser’s who have been particularly affected, have moved away to other programs or have restricted their advertising to search.

This has meant that there is less competition in content and therefore smaller revenues for publishers. Publisher’s who previously had high yielding ads, are now having to alter their content to ensure they get any adverts at all. This has largely been the fault of the publishers themselves however the issue is one that; if not addressed could bring adsense to its knees.

Google Adsense also has the disadvantage of not paying enough for their search program. Other similar programs pay higher rates, and if publishers decide to go elsewhere then problems will occur for advertisers and publishers alike. Although Google fail to pay enough for search another major problem with Adsense is that it does not have a powerful database of graphic adverts. Many advertisers prefer showing graphically drive advertisements, however this has yet to materialise. As several other programs exist for PPC graphic distribution problems could occur.

Whilst this may not be a problem for all publishers, many complain that the adverts within their site do not change, so their repeat visitors fail to see fresh adverts so therefore fail to visit them. This is a problem which could be addressed through making adverts rotate. However if adverts rotate then how will that be linked with advertisers paying a rate per click? These are all problems which Google has to address to ensure that Adsense remains the market leader.

Adwords on the other hand also has major advantages, and remains the best in the market. It’s CPC rates can be chosen by the advertisers so that even when they feel that they are not getting the results they expect they can lower their prices whilst still using the service.

Whilst many issues remain with adsense the program still remains the most popular amongst publishers, whilst Google Adwords remains the most popular amongst advertisers; with a database of over 140,000 Adwords will remain on top for the time to come.

According to the blurb on the TV3 website “Nick’s Bistro is TV3’s brand new fly on

According to the blurb on the TV3 website “Nick’s Bistro is TV3’s brand new fly on the wall series following Nick Munier from Hell’s Kitchen and Stephen Gibson, former head chef of Dublin’s Michelin Star restaurant L’Ecrivain, as they set up their new Dublin restaurant”.

However, after watching the second episode last night (Monday 23rd November), it is perfectly clear that Nick’s Bistro is just another TV3 infomercial posing as reality TV. (Bill Cullen’s The Apprentice anyone?).

For proof of this you need go no further than the duo’s staged visit to the head office of Bewleys in North County Dublin in search of a quality coffee for their upmarket clientele.

This five minutes of TV drivel was clearly just product placement. (If you ask any Irish restaurant professional they will tell you that you cannot use the words “quality coffee” and “Bewleys” in the same sentence).

Bewleys specialise in coffee for tea drinkers and their products are specifically manufactured to be as bland as possible inorder to appeal to institutional caters looking for a cheap one size fits all coffee solution (lumbering, low-end catering giant Campbell Catering are their biggest customer).

TV3’s primary function may be to generate revenue for ITV, but their licence is granted on the basis that a small percentage of their programming is home produced. Unfortunately it seems as if they’ve found a way to fulfill this obligation at the expense of the viewing public.

As for Nick’s Bistro itself…whatever about the food I won’t be dropping in for a coffee.

Adsense is regarded as one of the strongest tool in a domain publisher’s arms depot.
It enables an individual to monetize their sites simply. If used correctly, it can generate a particularly enormous and healthy earnings for them.
However if you aren’t using them correctly and just maximizing the earnings you squeeze from it, you are basically leaving plenty of money on the table. How you can start getting paid with Adsense can be done simply and quickly.
You’ll be dazzled at the results you’ll be getting in such a brief period of time. There are a lot of folk given the present of being good with words.
Why not make it work in the kind of way that you’re going to be earning some additional money in the middle. There are really 3 steps to put into mind before you start writing your advertisements and having an efficient Adsense. Take note that search engines are taking pride in the standard of their articles and what you will be writing should keep up with their demands. This is where all that you have done at first will go to and this is also where they’re going to prove their worth to you.

The correct positioning of your advertisements should be done with care. According to analyze, the one place that surfers look first when they visit a certain site is the top left. Perhaps it is perhaps because some of the most helpful search engine results are at the top of all other rankings. So visitors have a tendency to look in that same place when browsing thru other sites. By knowing these strategies and working them to your benefit, you may realize that you are going to be getting 3 times more than others who have been formerly doing what they are doing. You should be aware oft his capacity and make the best of it as it is one tough tool that may help you in finding out which adverts are performing best. This way, you can tune up your Adsense advertisements and focus more about the ones being paid a visit to the most instead of people who are being ignored. The explanation behind this is they are recognized as an advert and advert are rarely of any interest that is why folks ignore them.

To truly start earning money with Adsense, you need to have a definite target what you needed to achieve and how you may go about achieving them. Spare some time, even an hour, making changes to the Adsense ads on your sites to quickly trigger your Adsense earnings. Give it a try and you wouldn’t regret having gotten into Adsense in the 1st place.

If the wedding ring drama wasn’t enough, now Cheryl’s in trouble over her L’Oreal shampoo adverts.

The twenty-six-year-old, who signed a £500,000 deal with the haircare brand in August this year, has been criticised by fans for wearing hair extensions in her adverts for L’Oreal Full Restore 5 shampoo and conditioner – which claims to replenish “weak, limp and lifeless hair”.

Thirteen people branded the X Factor judge’s ads “misleading” and complained to the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA), but their complaints were rejected.

The ASA said the disclaimer message featured in the TV and print ads – which admits Cheryl’s hair is “styled with some natural extensions” – was “clear and legible’.

It seems Cole’s bad hair day doesn’t stop there.

While L’Oreal admits the singer wears extensions that are “cared for in the same way as normal hair”, her hairdresser has waded in to the debate, telling The Times that she now uses acrylic artificial extensions rather than the “natural” human hair claimed in the ads.

Finally I have time to sit and write this. Basically I’ve been having an idea block and I didn’t want my blogs to become a published moan about random stuff. However, having this on my mind is getting too irritating. It’s the cash for gold adverts. To say they are an irritant is actually a gross understatement! The basic idea of these companies seems to be to separate the gullible from their jewellery and the very tone is both patronising and insulting – like the directions on how to put jewellery into an envelope to post it. Who, in their right mind, sends anything valuable in the regular post? Everything about these people seems fake; from the woman’s fake orange tan and bottle blonde hair to forced attempt to not sound common (listen to how the ridiculous woman says the word ‘gold’)! As if the advert wasn’t bad enough the sheer relentless nature of this damnable advert is enough to make me want to scream and throw something heavy at the screen! It really says something about what these broadcasters think about the general intelligence of their audience.

Is it me or do we seem to be paying to watch adverts on services like Sky and Virgin? For every 15 minutes of programming there are at least 10 minutes of advertising. I don’t know about you but I am certainly capable of concentrating on a subject for more than fifteen minutes at a time. These people are dumbing down to the lowest common denominator and it needs to stop. The survival of the fittest means that those most capable of surviving within a given environment have the advantage. The environment does not change to let the ill-equipped (the stupid and the weak) catch up and nor should the standard of entertainment that we are expected to pay for.

Another bug-bear are the adverts of the ambulance chasing lawyers. I have very little sympathy for someone who was injured by doing something stupid! If you know you have been given the wrong ladder the sensible thing to do is NOT to go up it! The man should have been fired for incompetance not granted compensation and we as a society have a responsibilty to stop and think before we do something dangerous rather than look around to see who can be blamed for the injuries caused by our own stupidity. The blame culture has come in from the states and needs to be snuffed out now before we become a culture of lawsuits and compensation.

Come on people! Use some common!!!!

Two articles on the BBC new website made me raise an eyebrow today.

The first was regarding complaints of sexism against Philip Glenister’s line in the M&S Christmas tv advert.

(Skip to 00:37 for the offending line) I don’t find it sexist myself. Most people probably think of Gene Hunt when they see Glenister, and it really is something that character would say. It’s not even like he said it with a “phwoar” or a wink. And really, M&S adverts do tend to have the token lingerie model frolicking about. Also, would it be sexist if a woman made that comment about a man? Or would that just be “cheeky”? I wonder.
Full article here.

Secondly, Kate Moss is being bashed for apparently living by the motto “nothing tastes as good as skinny feels”. Charming. According to her agency, she “does not support this as a lifestyle choice.” Funny, because you just said…ah, forget it. It’s just thousands of young people you’re potentially influencing. Never mind, eh.

Incredibly, Cadbury’s notorious “Flake girl” UK TV adverts have been around, on and off, for 50 years now.

The first of the long-running series aired in 1959 and, from the earliest days, the adverts were extremely suggestive, packed with sensual imagery and overtly sexual symbolism.

These are from the 1960s and, though quite tame in comparison to what would follow, were still incredibly risqué for their time:

All of the adverts in this article aired on UK TV, except this one, which is from the similarly themed Aussie ad campaign:

In the 1970s, they moved to colour and upped the ante in the sexual metaphor stakes.

The following are all, I believe, from the 1970s and 1980s. First, two of the best-known ads:

This one is perhaps the least subtle of the lot, in which a woman in a canoe loses her paddle and then the canoe breaks through a waterfall into a hidden cave…

This 1980s advert provoked the most controversy in the press, due to the perceived highly erotic way the woman put the flake into her mouth… and speculation about what the lizard on the telephone was supposed to represent:

And in the 1990s, they just stopped pretending and went the whole hog by having the girl “enjoying her Flake” stark naked:

The saucy Flake girl was retired by Cadbury in 2004 – but revived in 2007 in this ad featuring Australian model Alyssa Sutherland:

What is Bookmarking

Quite simply Bookmarking pages means that if you have a favourite page and you don’t want to remember all your the addresses this button is a simple way of storing all your favourite pages in one place.

Why as a Seller should I bookmark pages?

We all want our products to sell at the highest price attainable and in the shortest time possible,to achieve this our adverts must be seen by as many people as possible. Whilst we at Hi-Fiadverts do as much as possible in the way of marketing and site optimisation there is still room for your to help market you products through Social Bookmarking.

Social Bookmarking

Social Bookmarking is a legitimate way of showing your adverts to the world. This is done by saving your adverts as a bookmark on one of the many social bookmarking sites. This then creates a link to your advert that the search engines pick up on and add you advert to their search results so now when people do a search on your advert keywords your advert will be seen.

There is another advantage with Social Bookmarking, the way search engines work is to give higher priority to pages with more external links. This means that they will prioritise your advert over someone elses advert that is selling the exact same product. Of course it is needless to say but the more social bookmark sites you use the better the results you will see in links to you adverts.

Which Social Bookmarking sites to use?

We have found the best sites to use in terms of speed and ranking are as follows:

www.digg.com

www.folkd.com

www.oneview.com

www.linkagogo.com

www.spotback.com

www.delicious.com

www.furl.com

www.mister-wong.com

www.jumptags.com

So all you have to do now is register with the above sites of your choice and start Social Bookmarking your adverts.

Tags and Keywords

We have also found that using Tags and Keywords is very important in the number and quality of the links to your advert. As an example lets say we are selling a interconnect cable these are the tags or keywords we would use:

hi fi, audio, av, manufacturer, product, length, second hand, used, high end, advert, for sale, interconnect, cable, location.

We hope that this introduction to Social Bookmarking has helped you and now can advertise your products more effectivly.

Recently I have been practising ad analysis as I’m expecting it to come up in interviews. One thing I have learned is that it isn’t always easy to put yourself in the shoes of others in order to gauge the effectiveness of an ad. That’s why I think it has to be a good idea to keep learning about the habits and opinions of other people rather than trying to work from assumptions you may have about them.

One of the easiest groups to make incorrect assumptions about has to be the opposite sex as cliches and stereotypes abound. The thought got me looking around and I found this site: She-conomy – a guy’s guide to marketing to women. Written by Stephanie Holland (Executive Creative Director of Holland & Holland) it’s a useful resource for finding out how the other half think (yeah, yeah… if you are a man of course).

It offers an interesting insight into the female perspective so give it a read. Even if communications aren’t your bag, it might just help with choosing the right Christmas presents this year!

She-conomy is also on Twitter.

As an aside… writing this made me think of these ads which have lurked in my memory:

And this one for Dr White’s towels and tampons:

Unfortuantely you can’t read the copy here but the ad is supposed to make women feel better by poking fun at the opposite sex having periods (I think).

I read an article from back home on The Sydney Morning Herald about how studies have shown that anti

I read an article from back home on The Sydney Morning Herald about how studies have shown that anti-smoking adverts are actually having the opposite effect. Weird, right? I mean, what is the point of spending all this money on these anti-smoking adverts if they are having the complete opposite of the desired effect.

Results from the world’s first long term, international study of people who have given up smoking revealed that for the first 30 days, smokers actually combated the cravings quite well. More than 2500 smokers partook in the survey, from 4 countries; USA, UK, Canada and Australia.

However, after those initial 30 days, the going gets tough. The study found that smokers cravings became harder to control, and being around smokers was almost unbearable. Even seeing images of cigarettes – such as in an anti-smoking advert – actually made the ex-smokers want to take up the habit again.

Image: Cathy Wilcox

The article went on to mention that the strength of the cravings were not that important at the beginning. However, as time went on, and the cravings didn’t subside, willpower weakened and even negative images of smoking tempted them to have a cigarette.

Another worrying statistic – people who experienced long-term cravings were less likely to successfully give up smoking. Professor Borland of the Cancer Council Victoria was quoted in the article as saying that people who experienced these long-term cravings tended to think more and more about cigarette’s, until eventually it was all the time.

Obviously, this would make it very hard to continue refraining from taking up your old habit again.

The one thing I noticed that the article, the professor and the survey don’t offer us, is an option to get around this. I mean, quitting smoking is hard enough as it is. It’s a well known fact that smoking is highly, highly addictive. We can’t expect other people to stop smoking, but if the adverts that are supposed to encourage and support us in quitting are have the opposite result, what do we do?

I’ll keep an eye out to see if anything else about this crops us, because I think it’s really interesting.

Cravendale are currently running some new adverts to promote their milk and website milkmatters.co.uk.

The ads are the brainchild of Wieden & Kennedy, an advertising with seven offices worldwide, one of those being based in London.

The current campaign kicked off in February with ‘Bad Bull’.

My current favourite is this, ‘Toe Tapping’:

I love the look of these ads and the random sounds that make up it’s dialogue. It almost reminds me of the Terry Gilliam Monty Python style of animation.

It’s been a while since I really enjoyed an advertising campaign, but this really makes me laugh. For all the money that is thrown on over the top, grandiose adverts which make me totally non-plussed, it is these low budget looking 30 second works of art that actually make me want to watch. Genius.

The Campaign against Climate Change Trade Union Group has produced a 50 page pamphlet, ONE MIL

The Campaign against Climate Change Trade Union Group has produced a 50 page pamphlet, ONE MILLION CLIMATE JOBS NOW. This comes out of an alliance of a wide range of unions, campaigns and experts and can be downloaded here.

This is not a policy report intended to be read by a few and gather dust. It is the first step in a national campaign to make the government employ a million unemployed workers to save the climate. It contains the arguments workers need for building that campaign. It will take mass action to make the government act. But first we have to convince people. Here is how we start:

You can get one copy for £2 or ten at a time for £15 from: The Campaign against Climate Change, www.campaingncco.org, info@campaigncc.org, or 0207-833-9311, or from the following people at union head offices:

Anne Elliott-Day at PCS

Manuel Cortes at TSSA

Tony Kearns at CWU

Janet Pantland at UCU.

Then sell the pamphlet at all the union, political and environmental events you can.

The key step is to get a small group of union activists together to start organising. Four people in a room in your town is enough. The Campaign union group will send a speaker. Contact Martin Empson on 07958535231.

Then contact union branches and workplace groups in your town. Ask the reps to take five or ten copies. If they take it and like it, try to get a speaker to a branch meeting or stewards meeting. Contact by phone is better than email, contact in person is best.

Organise a public meeting for One Million Climate Jobs Now in January or Feb. This does not have to be large. All it has to be is the largest meeting of union members about climate ever in your city. That’s not very big. For speakers contact Martin Empson 0795853231.

The Campaign will be sending out copies of a petition and a model union resolution, and will campaign for the TUC to call a national demonstration.

A longer report will come out in March. And the Campaign against Climate Change will have a national conference on Saturday March 15 in London to discuss how we organise to win a million new jobs.

I’m too sad to write about it. I’m not going to be able watch it at Christmas. The Tenna

I’m too sad to write about it. I’m not going to be able watch it at Christmas. The Tennant was the only reason I watched it! *Cries*

It was bloody good though! Better than the one with Zoe Slater! It had X-Files-y tones to it. I prefer the episodes like that and being an X-Files fangirl, it was just up my street! And LOL at Trina from Eastenders being in it (or Crys-taaaal from Bad Girls if you prefer). The Doctor said about water waiting and being patient. How it always wins and that is a a very true quote. I thought the ending was good too but it made me sad =( as my friend @stev02008 from Twitter said, the Doctor is pretty scary when he lets the power go to his head! I just remembered that I have a few of my Doctor Who books to read so I can carry on with *my* Doctor still even when Emo Boy does take over. I’m going to miss him =( Chris showed me earlier that he’s going to be in a movie with Simon Pegg.

So I’m a Celeb is on now and as Simon Pegg said, when are they gonna do a series with famous people? The only person I really like is Kim Woodburn from How Clean is Your House! Colin and Justin (LivingTV babies), some Italian tv chef, Lucy Benjamin and some others. Bloody hell, the only reason I watch this is for Ant & Dec. I love their presenting style, they never fail to make me laugh! Oh, and Sabrina from Misteeq? They haven’t released a song since 2002/2003!!!! Oh well, it’s a bit of escapism. It’s ok so far.

So back to X-Factor! LLOYD IS STILL THERE?!?!?!?! I mean ffs, at least Jamie can at least SING. Glad Stacey is through because I like her and I know that she has a lot more to offer and same goes to Joe. Glad they stayed and don’t care about anyone else! The charity single is ok (You are Not Alone) but I think most charity singles are a bit cheesy tbh.

Oooh, Baileys Coffee ad. I must try my free sample. I love Baileys! I haven’t seen the Coca Cola Christmas advert yet so I don’t think it’s anywhere near the 25th of December!

Anyway, bored now.
