El pasado 4 de Mayo se celebró, en el Museo metropolitano de la ciudad de Nueva york, la gala anual del Metropolitan Costume Institute. Con Kate Moss y Marc Jacobs como anfitriones, acudieron al evento las personas más representativas del mundo de la moda, así como los miembros más relevantes de la alta sociedad neoyorquina y mundial en general. El nivel de elegancia de la gala ha sido el menor de los últimos años con diferencia, a pesar de lo cual hemos completado un riquísimo reportaje fotográfico en el que hemos destacado a las damas más elegantes.

Aerin and I just had a very nice evening at the home of the Emissary of Droul. Manifreid is our official liaison with a nearby alternate reality, generally referred to as Droul, so his interest in translocating half a dozen strip-malls is a very important opportunity for us to establish a presence in that dimension. I was really expecting the trip to be more stressful, as we were to discuss the new company contract, but instead I find that the Emissary was very pleasant company. He is an exceptionally happy fellow, which puts my nerves at ease, and while he is also exceptionally short, he is staggeringly intelligent.

We spent most of the evening talking about the current economic difficulties. I did drop a couple of questions about certain world events that I know WDI was involved in. While he didn’t respond directly, I did catch a flash of surprise from him which I’ll take as recognition of what I was referring to. I hate having to go about things in such a circuitous manner, but to talk openly about WDI to the wrong person could be horribly dangerous. I’ll have to do some more research on him and determine whether I really trust him or not, but the Emmisary could be a very valuable ally.

The only thing I didn’t quite understand was his seeming fascination for guacamole. I suppose there are no Avocados in Droul.

I suppose I should recount the incident that made me decide to start blogging in the first place.

My friend Auger invited Aerin and I to come to Disneyland with her and Mother Duck. They were trying to confirm whether Walt Disney’s Lich had been moved from California to Florida, and Auger suggested that Aerin and I might be useful. At that point, I’d never met with Mother Duck in person, and I was intrigued by the suggestion that Lord Disney might still be in residence.

We did not come across any sign that Walt was still in California, but that’s beside the point for this post.

As it was getting late, and we’d found no sign of Undead activity, we decided to split up. Auger and M.Duck would take Aerin into the dark of Space Mountain to close her eyes and see if she could pick up any useful dream activity (A long shot, but we were running out of day). I was to trek across the length of the park trying to catch a mental whiff of an undead’s characteristic hunger. Half way across the park, I sat down on a bench for a moment, to catch my breath, and then continues searching. I realized a few minutes later that I had left my bag on the bench. I panicked a bit, since I keep all of my notes in that bag, and the information in there could be worth upwards of twenty million dollars on the right market.

There was a parade between me and where I had left the bag, and I dove right into it without stopping to think about the zombies. The parades and character suits at the Evil Kingdom have always been staffed by zombies. I know this. And yet in a moment of panic I dive right into them and wind up having to beat them off with their own dancing props. Not fun. Not fun at all.

I did get back to the bench, and thankfully the bag was still there, but I realized at that point that I should be putting my notes somewhere that they can be found if I do something stupid again and fail to lay hands on an appropriately weighted prop.

El pasado Lunes por la noche “The American Ballet Theatre” celebró su 68ª gala anual de apertura de primavera, seguida de una cena en el Lincoln Center. Sus representaciones en el “Metropolitan Opera House” se prolongaran hasta el 12 de Julio. Al evento asistieron las habituales de este tipo de actos en la ciudad de Nueva York, entre la cuales hemos destacados a las componentes de la siguiente serie.

The Hero and the Crown

Love it love it love it! This was a precursor to The Blue Sword, also a very good book. What surprised me the most was how different they were. I like parts of this one better, but there are parts of the other book I wouldn’t give up either. I don’t like the beginning of The Blue Sword, I thought it was like mid-1800’s, and then the whole scene and mood changes throughout the book, which I found very confusing.

In The Hero and the Crown I hate how inevitable everything seems to be. She just had to fight the dragon by herself, she just couldn’t recover, she had to go up the staircase for centuries, she had to come back at the very last minute. Also, why did king Arlbeth have to die?

I do like how the author handled Aerin’s mortal and not-quite-mortal sides, and the fact that Aerin could live a full life and still go back to love Luthe. I was really dreading her final decision.

It would be interesting to read a story continueing this one, where we get to see how strong Aerin’s magic really is. Now that I’ve read this book I want to go back and read The Blue Sword, a lot of things will make more sense. But I still advise that you read the Blue Sword first, then The Hero and the Crown.
