O actor que afinal queria ser rapper. Na primeira vez que pisa um palco, Joaquin espalha-se logo ao comprido. Não deve haver muitos a conseguir tal proeza.

Só pelo andar à desenho animado – por mais passos que dê não sai do mesmo lugar -, Katy Perry merece estar no top.

Ao contrário de Joaquin Phoenix, Steven Tyler demorou décadas para ter uma queda com estilo. Ah, foi ele que acabou no hospital.

Nunca a máxima “O que é nacional é bom” fez tanto sentido. A melhor queda em palco é portuguesa e em directo para a televisão. Para a próxima, deixa os óculos escuros em casa, está bem?

A la vista de su página web oficial cualquiera pensaría, y con razón, que no hay nada fuera de lo normal en Aerosmith, no como las visiones de fantasmas que dice haber experimentado otro veterano de mil conciertos como es Sting: felicitación de la banda con motivo del Día de Acción de Gracias, venta de camisetas, sudaderas y demás, fotografías del grupo, promoción del libro escrito por el batería Joey Kramer, calendario del tour del proyecto en solitario del guitarrista Joe Perry…

Quizás llame la atención al internauta el hecho de no encontrar muchas cosas relacionadas con la banda al completo, pero aparte de eso, todo correcto. Aún así decidimos repasar las noticias del grupo, no vaya a ser que haya algo oculto por ahí y debamos descubrirlo: El vocalista Steven Tyler y Michael J. Fox unen sus fuerzas en la lucha contra el Parkinson, nuevas fechas en la gira de Joe Perry, entrevista a Joey Kramer… nada, lo mismo de antes. Entonces qué ocurre, ¿a qué viene este mosqueo?

Pues sucede que precisamente eso es lo malo, que no aparezca nada raro. Las alarmas saltaron durante el verano cuando se canceló la última gira de los estadounidenses. La versión oficial aseguró que el motivo fue un accidente del señor Tyler, pero hubo quien insinuó que la verdad era otra. Los rumores no cesaron hasta que la notica se confirmó a comienzos de noviembre. A lo largo del mes  los medios no han parado de lanzar informaciones acerca del futuro de Aerosmith, mi correo electrónico ha recibido noticias relacionadas con ellos casi a diario, y su página web guarda silencio. Qué curioso, ¿no os parece? Pero lo mejor será que repitamos uno por uno esos correos, los capítulos de la historia que llevada a la televisión sería culebrón, así  tal vez juntos alcancemos alguna conclusión con sentido.

Primer correo, 7 de noviembre: Steven Tyler ha declarado en un medio británico que abandona la banda y en adelante continuará en solitario. Mientras tanto, el guitarrista Brad Whitford afirma que no sabe qué será de Aerosmith sin su compañero. Deja la puerta abierta a la continuación con un nuevo cantante, pero todavía no hay nada seguro.

Segundo correo, 11 de noviembre: Joe Perry confirma la marcha de la otra mitad de los “Gemelos tóxicos”, aunque desconoce si ésta será temporal o definitiva. Explica cómo Tyler no comunicó a ningún miembro de la banda sus planes y que, tal y como señaló Whitford, tampoco saben cómo seguirán adelante sin él.

Tercer correo, 12 de noviembre: el cantante se presentó por sorpresa en el camerino de Joe Perry durante el concierto que The Joe Perry Project ofreció en el Irving Plaza de Nueva York, y terminaron interpretando juntos en el escenario Walk This Way. No contento con eso, desmintió sus propias declaraciones y aseguró que  no dejaría Aerosmith.

Cuarto correo, 13 de noviembre: Pese a lo acontecido en Nueva York, Perry declara en Billboard que el grupo continuará tocando con o sin Tyler, podría pasar cualquier cosa. Aún no saben exactamente qué harán, de manera que esperan a que su compañero mueva ficha.

Quinto correo, 16 de noviembre: Tyler quiere tomarse dos años lejos de Aerosmith, pero la banda no piensa dejar de tocar durante ese tiempo según proclama Joe Perry.

Sexto correo, 21 de noviembre:  La banda insiste en que si es necesario reemplazará a Tyler. Brad Whitford va más allá y no sólo asegura que el vocalista tiene malos hábitos en la actualidad, sino que habla entre líneas acerca de consumo de droga.

New York City Council Deputy Majority Leroy Comrie (D-Queens) hosted a ceremony yesterday to officially rename the corner of Hollis Avenue and 205th Street as “Run DMC JMJ Way” in honor of the legendary Hall of Fame rap group that began their career in this community. With hundreds of Southeast Queens’ residents in attendance, Rev. Run and DMC joined with family members of the late group member Jam Master Jay to officially unveil the new street sign and become the first hip hop artists to be honored with a New York City street naming.

The ceremony was co-hosted by Power 105 radio personality (and Hollis native) Ed Lover and WBLS radio personality Dr. Bob Lee. Also in attendance were New York State Senate President Malcolm Smith (D-Queens), hip hop legends Rahiem (of Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five) and Kangol Kid (UTFO). The invocation was delivered by Rev. Carleen Thorbes of New Jerusalem Baptist Church.

The historic day began with a short parade from the Hollis Hip Hop Museum, located in the Hollis Famous Burger restaurant. Led by the Elite Marching Band, Jam Master Jay’s mother Connie Mizell and Council Member Comrie led family members to the ceremony site where they were joined on stage by Rev. Run and DMC. With their numerous hits being played, both surviving group members joined Ms. Mizell in remembering their fallen deejay and delivering positive messages to the audience.

“What this sign says to me is that you can be anything you want,” stated DMC. “Because of hip hop, I became one of the greatest lyricists of all time. And I did it without using profanity or disrespecting our beautiful Black women. Hip hop is about us doing the best with what we have to make it better for all the people after us. We are who we are because of you people.”

“This is a proud day for my whole family,” Ms. Mizell told the crowd. “I want to thank Council Member Comrie and the entire community for honoring my son and the entire group in this manner. I can remember like it was yesterday that the three of them were practicing their music in my living room in our house just a few blocks from here. And now future generations will see this street and be inspired by what they accomplished.”

Added Rev. Run, “This thing is bigger than me and D. This thing is about God giving us an opportunity to express ourselves through hip hop.”

Run D.M.C. was an influential Hip-Hop group whose members were born and/or grew up in Hollis, Queens. Founded by Joseph “DJ Run” Simmons, Darryl “D.M.C” McDaniels, and the late Jason “Jam Master J” Mizell, Run D.M.C. is considered to be one of the most important and influential artists in rap music history. Seven ground-breaking albums and countless hit singles resulted in the group paving the way for rap music to become the multi-billion dollar industry it is today. Additionally, Run D.M.C. is given credit for immortalizing Hollis, Queens as one of the birth places of Hip-Hop.

Run D.M.C was inducted into the prestigious Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on April 4, 2009 in honor of their historic and successful twenty-five year career.

Run (born Joseph Simmons, November 14, 1964) was the brother of Russell Simmons, who formed the hip-hop management company Rush Productions in the early ’80s; by the mid-’80s, Russell had formed the pioneering record label Def Jam with Rick Rubin. Russell encouraged his brother Joey and his friend Darryl McDaniels (born May 31, 1964) to form a rap duo. The pair of friends did just that, adopting the names Run and D.M.C., respectively. After they graduated from high school in 1982, the pair enlisted their friend Jason Mizell (born January 21, 1965) to scratch turntables; Mizell adopted the stage name Jam Master Jay.

In 1983, Run-D.M.C. released their first single, “It’s Like That/Sucker M.C.’s,” on Profile Records. It was the first “new school” hip-hop recording. “It’s Like That” became a Top 20 R&B hit, as did the group’s second single, “Hard Times/Jam Master Jay.” Two other hit R&B singles followed in early 1984 – “Rock Box” and “30 Days”. By the time of their second album, 1985’s King of Rock, Run-D.M.C. had become the most popular and influential rappers in America. STEPHEN TYLER ROCKS WITH FOX:

Stephen Tyler may or may not be with Aerosmith at the moment???  Over the last few weeks it has been said that he quit the band, is back on drugs, and that everything is fine.  Maybe he’s looking into joining Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones on a Robert Plant-less Led Zeppelin tour again?  Whatever Stephen Tyler is up to, one thing is known…he is still rockin’!  This past weekend he joined the likes of Gregg Allman and Roger Daltrey for a Michael J. Fox Parkinson’s benefit.  The former Family Ties and Spin City star even played guitar!

MTV IS “GROUNDED”:

I stopped watching MTV regularly around six years ago.  Their original programming has not really done it for me in some time.  But at least for the most part they have stayed ORIGINAL.  I will give them that.  They may not have stayed music, but they continued to produced programs that were unique to whateve the MTV brand stood for at the time.  That has all ended recently.  Over the last year they have started showing movies and now they have added a sitcom to their line-up….Grounded for Life!  Nothing against that show (I’ve never seen it) but why is it on MTV?  It has been added to their weekday schedule at 9/9:30am and again at 7/7:30pm.  They have also added South Park weekdays at 8/8:30pm.   Now South Park certainly fits in better with the MTV spirit of yesterday, but it’s a Comedy Central show.  MTV used to be so much it’s own thing…it was not necessary to borrow from sister networks to pad its schedule.  I know they can’t show music videos all day anymore with You Tube and all…but please come up with something original!  Being original is after all what defined MTV for over two decades.

CCR (Revisited, Not Revival) DOES RUDOLPH:

I’m a big fan of the late 60’s “swamp rock” group Creedence Clearwater Revival.  John Fogerty is undeniable!  However, if you didn’t know, today the group is called Creedence Clearwater REVISITED.  This band does not include Mr. Fogerty as the remaining members of the original band and him did not leave on the best of terms back in the early 70’s.  John continues to tour, singing the CCR hits as only he can sing them, as the others tour as “Revisited” with a different lead singer.  Kudos to them I suppose, gotta keep making the money.  I wouldn’t particulary care to see them however as I realize John Fogerty was and is Creedence.  I have seen him a few times though and he still puts on one hell of a show.   The “Revisited” group however have released a cover of the Christmas classic “Run, Run Rudolph” for the Juvenile Diabetes charity CD, “Hope for the Holidays- Rockin’ Christmas for a Cure” .    Collective Soul, Weezer, and The Beach Boys are some of the other contributors.  CCR has put the track up on their website.

Lizzie Miller weighs 11 stone 1 lbs and when this picture was released in Glamour magazine the small “roll” on her stomach sparked global debate about whether or not she should be accepted as a model.

The news is claiming that were all getting more obese and were slowly catching up with americans and the Scientific Advisory Committee on Nutrition telling us that we can increase our recommended daily amount of calories by 16%. For those of you who aren’t good at maths like me thats the equivalent of a cheese burger or two bags of ready salted crisps.

Weighing in at 8 stone 5 pounds I know that I make peoples eyes roll. Whats this girl talking about obesity for? She’s not fat. Looking at me you wouldnt think that I weighed that much. I have however only just reached a weight that I’ve been dying to reach for the past 4 years. No I haven’t lost weight. I’ve gained it. I’m proud of that. There are girls bigger than me and there are girls ALOT smaller than me, thats just the way life is. Nobody is perfect, but everyone in their own way is beautiful.

This beautiful that I’m talking about may not be on the surface but it can be stored underneath in a hidden personality, an extremely clever brain or a wicked sense of humour.

I’ve witnessed my friends growing up doubt themselves and I’ve been through my own doubts. Like Lizzie Miller though, I’ve learnt to love my own body.

When I was 18 I watched a friend get so stressed about her own body that she bordered on developing an eating disorder. By eating smaller meals she thought that noone would catch on. She exercised til she was exhausted and didn’t put the calories back into her body. However I did, I confronted her about it and asked her why she was doing it. Her answer? Because she was too fat. Wearing size 12 clothes I didn’t consider my friend to be fat, and neither did our other friends. We kept a close eye on her and then when we begun to worry about her, we told her Mum.  Those few months around my 18th birthday were dreadful, my friend never actually developed an eating disorder but it was a tough few months to help her realise that we all thought she was perfect the way she was. Thankfully she’s never gone back to thinking that she’d need to resort to putting herself through that again.

Asking my friend why she had put herself through all of the angst that she did, she said that she wanted to be “skinny” and “pretty” just like the girls in college that looked like they should be in the magazines. My friend couldn’t see the stuff that made everyone love her. Her booming laugh, her caring nature and the ability to make braver style choices than every other “topshop coathanger” in college.

The media has alot to do with influencing the way that young girls picture themselves. Choosing models who only fit the “skinny” criteria to feature on catwalks and in magazines influences what us girls should really look like. The role models featured in these magazines can also have a bad influence on the way that people think. Kate Moss who is deemed one of the best models in the world last week shocked the nation by stating

“Nothing tastes as good as being skinny feels”.

I don’t really follow alot of what Kate Moss does, apart from when she releases a new range at Topshop. Like the rest of the nation though I was shocked to see that someone who knows she is a role model to plenty of young girls who are easily influenced. The quote however was originally said by Steven Tyler Aerosmith who had no influence whatsoever on anyones eating habits, the word skinny was originally thin.

For me, I believe that if you love your toothy smile, make the most of your assets and even grow to love that “big” nose you are one of these people that are beautiful and represent a member of today’s real beautiful nation.

But I can’t take any shit about Aerosmith. They were junior high and high school for me. Me and my friends did a cover of a shit ton of their songs at a couple parties the upper classmen threw, and that wave of popularity carried me all through high school.

And call me a pussy if you want but if these guys are going to fight, at least it’s just semi-manufactured in the press. They can make their passive aggressive remarks, they can say whatever the fuck they want, but they’ve kept it kind of gentlemanly.

Okay, not really, but it could be so much worse, and that’s what Noodles is rooting for.

I’m starting to think they should just call it a day while they still have some credibility left.

Vira e mexe bandas se juntam, se desfazem, se rejuntam, é sempre um pé no saco. A bola gorda da vez é o Aerosmith. O vocalista (e único que a banda já teve) Steven Tyler teria abandonado o barco e deixado o resto dos caras sem saber o que fazer. Já rolaram boatos por aí de que a banda estaria procurando outro vocalista (o que é no mínimo estranho pra dedéu), mas segundo o guitarrista Joe Perry:

“I think that you just have to listen to what’s going on in the press. Because that’s the only thing I know,” he explained. “All I know is that the four guys want to work. I’m working with my band, playing the House of Blues all across the country. And we’re rocking out and having a good time.”

Ou seja, todo mundo quer trabalhar, menos a senhora Tyler e ninguém da banda deve saber que rumo o Aerosmith vai tomar. O que causa esse tipo de coisa? É engraçado ver o pessoal na internê tentando arrumar justificativa, mas a verdade pura é que uma hora enche o saco mesmo, fazer a mesma coisa por anos e conviver com as mesmas pessoas na maior parte do tempo (tente morar 6 meses com seu melhor amigo), e foi o que acontece há pouco tempo com o SOAD e já aconteceu com centenas de bandas.

If you think you’re cut from the cloth of rock gods, there’s hope: word on the street is that Aerosmith still has an opening.

“We want to keep Aerosmith going, and we want to keep playing,” lead guitarist Joe Perry said on Sunday.

The legendary rock band began the star search earlier this month after Steven Tyler revealed that he was interested in working on “brand Tyler.” And despite the rumors swirling that the new lead could be Josh Todd from Buckcherry, there isn’t a winner yet.

“We’ve heard a lot of people mention a lot of people, but the bottom line is we have a short list and we’re talking to people,” Perry said.

Tyler also isn’t being very hands-on in finding his replacement.

“The last time I talked to Steven was before the show in Sturgis [South Dakota]. We have heard from him the same way you guys have,” he said, which means Tyler’s primary method of communication has been news outlets. Disappointing, especially considering that the band’s 40th anniversary is coming up in less than a year.

But Aerosmith is still soldiering on, and Perry is encouraging anyone and everyone to send in tapes – literally. “We found the singer in my band on YouTube, so there’s no reason why we couldn’t find someone to sing with Aerosmith,” he said.

Drummer Joey Kramer has been a little more specific about what the remaining Aerosmith members are looking for.

“There’s a difference between a frontman or a performer,” Kramer told Rolling Stone.

“Luckily for us, Steven is both of those and probably the best out there. If he chooses to pursue a solo career for a while, then it would have to be somebody who can do both.”

Transcurría 1993 y yo terminaba la primaria; los que estuvimos ahí recordamos al bocón de la imagen a la izquierda y ese disco con la ubre perforada de una vaca (get a grip) que incluía algunas de las baladas mas cursis de la década.

Yo ya era un fan devoto de Aerosmith para entonces y Livin’ on the edge era MI canción.  Empezaba mi día con ella y ¡Cuidado con que se me atravesara un espejo mientras la escuchaba! pues aquel cuarto se convertía en mi escenario donde quiera que estuviese; mala idea…

Aquel día me encontraba ya terminando el solo de guitarra, podía sentir cada nota y era delicioso… hasta que escuché cuando giraban la perilla… era el esposo de mamá ¿Y yo? En posición estelar con un bate de béisbol azul rey por guitarrón. Era mi canción –Como dije en el párrafo anterior- pues no la escucho igual desde entonces. ¿Te ha pasado algo así?

An important race relations moment occurred in 1986. It was a newly-recorded version of a song called “Walk This Way,” written by Steven Tyler and Joe Perry, originally recorded by Aerosmith (1975; Toys In the Attic), but in 1986 released as a record from Aerosmith and Run-DMC. The song appeared on Run-DMC’s multi-platinum album, Raising Hell.

It’s easy to see some segment of the racial divide being brought together through this song and its subsequent music video (below), but let’s consider how disproportionately-slanted the mainstream music market of 1986 was towards the white population, and who needed who more in this pairing.

Rick Rubin, co-producer of Raising Hell and co-founder of Def Jam Records, along with Jam Master Jay, DJ of Run-DMC, conjured up and sold the idea of Run-DMC remaking the song for the Raising Hell project.

The “DMC” in Run-DMC, Darryl “DMC” McDaniels, initially responded to the idea as such:

“Motherf*^ker, this is hillbilly gibberish, this is f*^king bulls*^t.” (quote from Andy Greene’s 10/15/09 Rolling Stone article on “Walk This Way”)

Prior to Rubin introducing Run-DMC to the music of Aerosmith, they didn’t know who the band was.

Rubin, trying to genuinely aid the creation of progressive art, and simultaneously bring it profitably to the masses, shared the following in the above-mentioned Rolling Stone article:

“The album needed one more element. I thought there had to be a way to present this to rock fans so people would think, ‘this really isn’t that different than the kind of music I like’.”

But who was really more in need of who? The all-white rock band, or the all-black hip hop group?

From the book Are We Not Men?: Masculine Anxiety and the Problem of African-American Identity, by Phillip Brian Harper:

“…Rolling Stone critic Mark Coleman suggested that, rather than benefiting from the ‘innovative’ quality of Aerosmith’s 1970s composition, Run-DMC’s cut actually modernized the rock band, ‘dragging guest stars Steven Tyler and Joe Perry into the Eighties, kicking and screaming’….Barry Walters (1986) has made a useful point by way of explicating Rick Rubin’s claim that his black classmates were more musically ‘progressive’ than their white counterparts: ‘The music industry treats white music as an ongoing history, and black music as just the latest thing. Many record companies will keep in print the entire catalog of white acts that don’t sell big numbers and delete product by all but the biggest-selling black acts…In other words, black kids are “progressive” because they’ve got no choice. (p. 23)’.”

Was the teaming of Run DMC and Aerosmith in the mid-80s “progressive”? There’s little question that it was. But it wasn’t all roses, and is still far from it.

This combination of musical styles, forms and audiences was a big step forward to truly bringing black and white together to appreciate, respect and enjoy their diversity, while also helping all to see that the melding of the collective creativity could be enjoyable to all.

Sports and Music. Both packed with vibe, aggression, anticipation, excitement, noise, energy, and soul. As an athlete, hearing a song that boils your blood and widens your eyes is just one small characteristic in which music   can transcend physically into your own actions and thoughts. Eclectic restaurants and lounges are effective with paralleling their visual atmosphere to the aura it emits. Sport venues are no different. Rarely, unless you are at a   cricket match, will the arena blair ‘Mozart’s 21st concerto   in C major’ at the height of battle. 4th and 2 and one play to win or lose the game, here are the top 10 (due to change with time).

A Steven Tyler le buscan sustituto

La legendaria banda Aerosmith se encuentra en estos momentos en una etapa de crisis, debido a que su cantante Steven Tyler se encuentra prácticamente en el limbo, tratando de poner orden a su vida, por lo que prefirió salir de la banda, aunque existen rumores de que volvió a recaer fuertemente en las drogas.

Por su parte el guitarrista Joe Perry comenzará una gira en Canadá con su banda Joe Perry Project, abriendo para los Mötley Crüe, durante enero y febrero del 2010.

Por otro lado se habla que Aerosmith está buscando un nuevo cantante para seguir vivos, pero la historia de esta banda comprueba que cuando han tocado sin sus integrantes originales de plano son un real fracaso, aunque también la mala relación que han llevado, más sus problemas con los estupefacientes, también ha provocado que su gran nivel musical  baje a la más pura mediocridad.

Así que pensar que Aerosmith sobreviva sin Steven Tyler, cuando su voz  es prácticamente el sello del grupo, es una idea que sus fans podrían considerar ridícula  y provoca cuestionamientos serios sobre el juicio de los demás integrantes de Aerosmith. 

Aerosmith sin Tyler, sería como los Rolling Stones sin Mick Jagger  o Metallica sin James Hetfield, sin embargo ya comienzan a decirse nombres de quién podría sustituirlo y aquí les damos algunas opciones.  

Tom Keifer, quien fuera el frontman de Cinderella, podría ser un sustituto con afán de revancha, porque seguramente conoce al dedillo el material de Aerosmith. Recordemos que Tom se vestía igual de Steven Tyler y hasta tomaba de la misma forma el micrófono. Sería un renacer para este talentoso cantante y compositor, pero esto es sólo un deseo de Inquisidor71, ya que las últimas noticias que se tienen de este talentoso músico es que perdió la voz, debido a unos nódulos en sus cuerdas vocales.

John Corabi fue brevemente el cantante de Mötley Crüe, en la etapa en que esta banda quiso cambiar su sonido radicalmente, pero sin buenos resultados. A pesar de todo, la calidad de este cantante es incuestionable y podría musicalmente dar el ancho en la música de Aerosmith, pero no es tan dinámico en sus movimientos;  nadie baila como Tyler.

Chris Robinson de The Black Crowes podría ser otro candidato ideal, ya que domina esa mezcla de blues-rock con maestría. Quizás tendría que dejar de lado un poco la banda que lo ha hecho famoso para probar qué se siente subirse  al escenario con esta gran banda.

Stephen Pearcy ex cantante de Ratt, modernizó con esta banda, el hard-rock  de los años 80’s. Aunque muchos los comparaban con Def Leppard, la realidad es que su mayor influencia era Aerosmith, sólo que eran más dinámicos en las guitarras. La voz agresiva de este cantante haría un efecto interesante en la música de la banda que dirige Joe Perry.

Sebastian Bach es un intérprete que a pesar de salir de Skid Row hace varios años, ha mantenido su fama con participaciones en series de televisión y en realitys, así como con participaciones en Broadway, así como en uno que otro disco solista.

Su voz ha sido considerada una de las mejores del heavy metal, pero ahí está el problema, no se identifica mucho con el rock-blues, pero seguramente se pondría a ensayar con todo para ser adorado por los fans de Aerosmith.

Josh Todd de Buckcherry es dinámico en el escenario y tiene una voz rocanrolera de primer nivel, quizás sea el que más se adapte a las necesidades de Aerosmith. Por algo los lectores de la revista Rolling Stone lo tienen ubicado como el principal candidato para sustituir a Steven Tyler.

David Johansen quien fuera el frontman de New York Dolls también es otro candidato favorito para entrar a Aerosmith, sin embargo no creo que logre el nivel por el cual se hizo famoso. Sin embargo, si conserva su dinamismo en el escenario podría salir adelante en esta hipotética empresa.

Axl Rose fue influenciado tremendamente por Aerosmith, sino chequen su versión en vivo con los Guns N’ Roses de “Mama Kin”. Y en realidad es el único que lo veo adecuado para la música de esta banda, ya que tiene una gran voz con perfectos  agudos y graves, así como un estupendo manejo escénico. Pero si fuera invitado, su ego probablemente se lo impediría.

Cormac Neeson de la banda hard-rockera The Answer también es mencionada por algunos medios como un ideal sustituto, aunque en mi particular punto de vista no podría mantener el ritmo dramático que impone Tyler en vivo.

David Coverdale, líder de Whitesnake le cambiaría la cara a Aerosmith. Si con Jimmy Page cantó como Robert Plant, por qué no podría hacerlo como Steven Tyler, además su manejo en las vocales del blues-rock y del hard-rock es de grandes ligas.

Nota: También se menciona a David Lee Roth,  a Iggy Pop  y a un tipo que participó en American Idol, llamado Adam Lambert, pero sobre este último, a pesar de su talento, quizás su homosexualidad no sea del agrado de los legendarios Aerosmith.

I’ve been looking for a way into the ongoing mess that has been Aerosmith these past few weeks, and everything I’ve read and heard about it has held this album up on a pedestal, so here we are.

My generation has a bit of a tainted view of Aerosmith. The biggest things they’ve done in the two decades I’ve been alive are the commerical juggernaut of Get A Grip and that fucking atrocious song from Armageddon that played at every dance I had from 7th grade on (I slow danced to that song at least 3 times in my life. Ugh). Then there’s Just Push Play, which I didn’t hate, but apparently everyone else did. So for anyone my age news of Aerosmith’s woes and Steven Tyler’s antics are met with either shrugs or hallelujahs. Honestly, I could care less either way. Aerosmith kind of fall into the same category as the likes of KISS and The Rolling Stones; artists who had a good run, but don’t quite get that said run ended a long time ago. Seeing and hearing Steven Tyler perform now seems just a little sad, a depressing mix of plastic surgery, an aging voice and lack of self-awareness. It’s unlikely to happen since bands like Aerosmith are too stubborn and too used to the limelight, but were Aerosmith to ride off into the sunset in the next year or so, I suspect they’ll still be able to go out with dignity and respect from their fans and their peers, who remember Toys in the Attic as a terrific helping of what made them great in the first place.
