Eight magic tracks from of one the best artists in the whole netlabel scene! Thomas Peters aka Cantaloup is well known in the scene. The music is a cross between Post-rock and electronic with large emelents of shogazing and dreamy ambient sounds. Like a happier version of Godspeed You! Black Emperor.
On A Hill Not Far Aways was released on Aerotone last year. A truly wonderful netlabel based in Germany, releasing high quality melancholic music for Free! Make sure you check it out, this might be the best netlabel out there at the moment!

das netlabel aerotone ist vor kurzem, nach einer pause, wieder mit neuen releases am start. und die sind nicht schlecht. im gegenteil!

zur aer014 von “entertainment for the braindead” (die man sich genauso runterladen sollte) hatte ich noch nichts geschrieben, das hole ich aber nun gleichzeitig mit der aer015 von “cantaloup” nach. beide releases wuerde ich unter die schublade sonntagsmusik einordnen – der begriff ist natuerlich nur im allerbesten sinne zu verstehen. das ist mir als erstes in den sinn gekommen, bei den verspielt, melodioesen tracks.

I’m stranded in Duesseldorf at work, so instead of being home, in my bed and asleep, I’m sitting next to our frontend guru who’s still awake enough to get real work done. My next possible train goes at 4:31am, but taking it would be rather pointless — to get me awake in the morning, my first alarm goes off at 4:43am. So, at about 6:30am one could distinguish me from a dead-asleep person. So, here I am, stranded not only by means of location but also by means of time.

Because of that — and because of feeling still quite awake — I’m now going through the favourites I collected on Twitter the last few weeks, putting them together for some new post. (Sorry, I don’t have the preparation file here at work for going on with my posting series on prerequisites on starting a social network.)

Also, I have experienced, just posting links is not much fun for the reader — at least I am not willing to follow links to figure out what they are about. Blogs like Medgadget or Netzpolitik mostly present uncommentedly. Hence, my consequence is to post my gathered links, but add intros to them:

• Twitter pal pragdave made me aware of a great pantomime performance: Apparently in January 2008, 200 people froze in place amidst the commuters passing Grand Central Station in New York. As you might suspect, indeed it was a flashmob. And who was behind the scenes? Improv Everywhere Global. They’ve got a report of the stunt on their blog.
• by way of pl0g.de I learned about some hooligan in the Berlin tram, about to attack a woman. Some curageous young man stops the bum cold — a very unexpected way. Sorry, I won’t reveal this one to you, see yourself.
• CompSci.ca imagines programming languages were boats — provides pictures of boats and declares them to be programming languages. Thanks for the hint, joshuaclayton!

• By way of troubalex, I recently learned about jamendo.com, a place where musicians distribute their music by.
• jkleske pointed to an album of free music he currently favours — and I like it too. It is a mixtape by the Aerotone netlabel, featuring Sven Swift and called underwater is a place to be alone. Which pretty nicely hits the nail on its head. Ambient. I love it!

…but back to technology:

• Labuschin linkbaited for his blog post — but he’s notably good at providing links. First one to mention is to a post of Rails Jedi presenting his top ten Railscast shows, second one goes to a link collection to noteworthy pages on Ruby on Rails.
• mikepence made me aware of an especially noteworthy posting that makes clear why Netbeans is a rather good IDE for developing Rails

Os Norton acabam de disponibilizar para download grátis e legal o seu Kersche Remix Album (aer012) através da netlable Aerotone.

Norton é um projecto Português de Castelo Branco composto por Rodolfo Matos, Pedro Afonso, Alexandre Rodrigues e Leonel Soares. Este 4 rapazes já demonstraram antes o seu gosto pelas remisturas em Frames > Remixes & Versions, se me recordo, CD distribuido com o Blitz, e agora é a vez de Kersche, editado em 2007, reaparecer com umas roupagens novas e pelas mãos de pessoas tão distintas como os Loto, projecto também Português, ou o grande mestre do netaudio Transient.

Já há alguns anos que acompanho isto do netaudio e das netlabels e é sempre um prazer enorme ver quando uma banda ou projecto Português do dito “mercado tradicional” rompe as tradições e entra assim desta forma original no mundo das Netlabels. Uma bela forma de se dar a conhecer em outros mercados, outros países e de chegar a milhares de pessoas que de outra forma já mais conheceriam os Norton.

Nem vou falar das músicas ou das remisturas, deixo essa parte para outra altura, agora quero apenas dar os parabéns pela atitude, pela coragem e pelo trabalho conseguido em reunir todas estas pessoas e levar-las a conhecer e remixar Norton.

Plutei are born in the seawater. They represent a specific life stage (larva) of some marine invertebrates, the Echinoderms. Most of them are less than 1mm long, so tiny that inertial forces are dominated by viscous forces of the water. Just imagine if air was honey and we had to go for a walk… Plutei can swim and feed in this environment using their long arms and cilia. However, Plutei are ephemeral. They swim (and eat) for weeks or maybe months, before something else takes place. Currents can take them really far away from the place they were born. Millions of Plutei are born at once. How many would survive? How many would be thousands of miles away? How many would get proper food and not be eaten? Plutei carry the tissue of adults inside them. The food they eat, goes to adult tissues. In the end, the adult in formation takes over the larval body and the Pluteus is gone.

Plutei are part of the ocean’s hidden life. Organisms we can’t see easily, but that certainly got in between our toes when walking along the beach, or were swallowed during a swim… Its crazy and different “life” inspired the first compilation of songs from ccnelas.org, The Pluteus Trip. ich bin mir fast sicher, ein durchhoeren durch die anderen releases birgt sicherlich noch das ein doer andere schmankerl.

My First Trumpet - Frerk

I first listened to Frerk after reading Wundertunes nice comments about it. The songs stuck into my mind. I specially like how elements fit together and lead you throughout the song. In the same way as an inspired speech clears up a point of view.

Celebrating the tenth release of aerotone and the third year of 12rec, these netlabels decided to collaborate releasing a special CDr-edition of Frerk (also blogged here).

We enjoy the fact that we have artists from all over the world in our back catalogue. Still it’s a nice thing to be back with a couple of releases from people we personally know and met recently. Autumn 2007 starts with an album that draws a line from the shores of Hamburg to the Ruhr Area, ending up at the feet of the Alps in Munich. To celebrate our third year and the tenth release at Aerotone Netlabel, we prepared a very nice collaboration CDr for you: say hi to My First Trumpet!

The album “Frerk” my Kevin Hamann’s Indiepop-outlet My First Trumpet isn’t actually new. The LP was released at Aerotone a few weeks ago. Kevin is a professional musician that gained a lot of attention with his smart Beatpop-moniker Click Click Decker. Due to the fact that he’s touring a lot and people seem to dig his eclectic My First Trumpet-album, we thought it might be a cool idea to re-release “Frerk” as a strictly limited CDr-edition for fans to lay their hands on. Here it is, manually numbered and packed with two delicious bonus tracks.

The album is absolutely astonishing. Kevin is a man with an undoubtedly feel for melodies and striking Pop sensibility. The LP is made of 14 scribbled songs, none of them processed more than necessary. Clever Indiepop-tracks like “Digital Contact”, “Eat Some Beaf Chief”, “Max B.” and “Dipl. Link” work at first try and last for weeks. One-man band Hamann plays guitars, drums, synthesizers, glockenspiel and one hundred instruments more. Tracks “Happy Plingi” or “Muerz” show up with a poppy Post Rock-approach, not unlike Mice Parade. Other tunes will make you think of the Postal Service or New York City’s Ratatat. Hmmm…

The CDr is limited to 100 copies! It contains the brand new boni “Im Wald” and “Halbe Liter”. Kevin will sell the CDs at his concerts, but the only chance to get them online is here. The delightful artwork was crafted by Aerotone top-designer meedchen. The sleeves look fantastic! Only to celebrate this album, Sven Swift recently thought of a new kind of package. ich mag diesen kerl. kevin hamann spielt unter seinem aka clickclickdecker unterhaltsame singer/songwriter-musik mit grundehrlichen texten (correct me, wenn das allzu bescheuert klingt), hat als wohnort bei myspace hh bahrenfeld bei der aral stehen und trägt auf seinem foto dort eine plattenhülle auf dem kopf. und weil hier kunst und selbstdarstellung so formidabel zusammenkommen der gute clickclick offensichtlich nicht ausgeglichen war in den letzten wochen/monaten, hat er einige elektronische instrumentalstücke übrig, die er jetzt unter dem pseudonym my first trumpet raushaut. die platte heißt “frerk”, wiegt gezippt ca. 65mb und kann hier kostenlos heruntergeladen werden. zwölf stücke mit so tollen titeln wie “nordiopathie” oder “the owl like to bowl” harren des saugens. ich habs getan und empfehle es unbedingt weiter. beim zuständigen label aerotone gibt es die songs einzeln sowie das schicke, dazu gehörige artwork. mehr davon, clickclick!
