Hey petite mangouste du désert, ta semaine a été bonne ? Gorgée en émotions ? La mienne a été insipide et je te fais partager ça en images, c’est t’y pas mignon ?

Lundi :

“Ouaaaaaah ! La claaaaaaaaaaaaaaaasse, la mégaclaaaaaaaaaaaaasse même” ! Ouais, lundi dans l’indifférence la plus totale, je passais la barre des 26000G, ce qui à défaut de servir à quelque chose, m’ouvrira sans nul doute les portes du paradis… hey ouais ! :fier:

ouais en fait, c'est juste super pourri mais il était minuit moins une quand je me suis aperçu que je n'avais toujours pas pris de photo...

Mardi :

Ah, mardi. Passager sans histoire, les yeux encore endormis, oisif, je prenais la mesure et le pouls de ma ville qui s’éveillait enfin… spectateur attendri de ces citadins prudents, précautionneux… qui s’élançaient vers un deuxième jour de semaine ensoleillé… !

Bien heureusement, personne n'a été blessé... enfin, sauf le conducteur du poids lourd et les passagers du bus scolaire qui arrivaient en face... finalement, tout est bien qui finit bien ! :remetsabaretteroseenplace:

Mercredi :

Quand les développeurs de jeux vidéo peaufinent leurs créations, il faut les saluer, d’un petit geste de la main, ou d’une petite accolade affectueuse. De tout mon petit cœur, j’envoie des accolades de bonheur aux p’tits mecs de chez Codemasters qui ont pondu avec Opération Flashpoint : Dragon Rising un jeu de grande qualité !

Et dire que certains ont payé le jeu 60€, AH AH... je me gausse !

Jeudi :

Depuis la semaine dernière, on se regardait un peu en chien de faïence lui et moi. Comme un vieux couple qui fait trainer une vieille dispute… il était temps de prendre les devant pour chercher et trouver un terrain d’entente ! Jeudi, je mettais les petits plats dans les grands pour que lui et moi, nous trouvions le chemin de la réconciliation…

AH AH, un bon gros lolcat comme on les aime...

Vendredi :

Ah oui, vendredi nostalgie. Je ne sais si c’est la vue d’une mouette gracieuse dont le vol suspendu m’inspira l’envie de me replonger dans mes souvenirs. Toujours est-il que vendredi donc, je dépoussiérai l’un de mes vieux albums photos…

On y apprend donc que j'ai fait mon premier sourire le 06/12 à 15 heures et que j'ai déposé mon premier pâté à 17H30 sur la main d'une sage femme, oooh, trop kawaïïï !

Samedi :

Bien conscient que ma semaine manquait cruellement d’intérêt pour le public scientifique, je décidais d’expérimenter sans le vouloir l’une des plus vieilles lois du monde (en plus de celle de la gravité) : la loi de Murphy !

Bien évidemment, je ne l'ai pas mangé après... bien évidemment...

et Dimanche, comme d’hab’… rien qui ne te regarde !

I was going to work on a paper but then…” (to the tune of Because I Got High by Afroman). Technology is about as reliable an aid in the daily tasks of life as cannabis seems to be for Afroman in his quest for productivity. Computer’s are always catching bugs, programs are always malfunctioning, printers are always not printitng, and projectors are always overheating. Technology may at times be a lifesaver because of the conveniences it has provided but it’s reliability is a sorry excuse for convenience if you ask me.

In this day and age, modern technology(in the form of computers, cellhpones, etc.) has become an integral part of life, especially for those of us living in first world countries. It is essential for instant communication, information exchange, and overall heightened convenience. As a whole, modern tehcnology has had a positive impact on the quality of living. But it’s not all smiles when it comes to figuring out how work these new-fangled contraptions. The world is advancing at an incredible speed and it can be hard to keep up with the thousands of technological advances developed each year. This poses a problem for those attempting to live in the technological world. Every new program I learn is outdated within 2-3 years and I’m right back at square one. Every piece of technology has a specific method of operation that must be determined before using it. It takes so long to figure out how to change from the Macintosh operating system to Windows that I feel like I should just give up.This never-ending cycle of learning provides little reward to the victims (example:me) of this new age of accelerated development.

The only solution that I have found to make it through life without throwing my computer out a window (or taking my printer and going office-space on it) is to try to do things at my own pace. The world is creating, evolving, and generating at an alarming rate and if I can’t figure it out now, I can’t wait until ten years from now. Instead of trying to problem-shoot every new program that comes out, I wait, see how useful each program is, and once I have discerned it is worth the time, I sit myself down and slowly learn how to use it. To say that I will be able to simply not rely on technology is to live in the past. I would rather move forward at a cautious pace,keeping in mind that at least I’m putting forth effort and not out getting high.

Explain THAT Science #5: Drunk Driving

It seems like every week there is a new study linking fatalities to drunk driving. This is just another typical sciencey lie.

Scientists think that ethyl alcohol affects the brains in negative ways such that judgment becomes retarded. I say they’re wrong. They’ve just been drinking the wrong alcohol. Those idiot scientists!

Hell, sometimes I have 8 beers and don’t even notice! If I’m not aware of how much I’ve drunk, how can it possibly be enough to affect my driving? I sent a letter asking just that to Peasy Meyers, and he didn’t have any idea. Said I might need help. Clearly I’m not going to get any from science, thats for sure! Peasy shouldn’t quit his day job at the octopus farm if he sucks at science that badly.

I can drive perfectly fine after I’ve drank down two bottles of Absolut vodka. There is some debate about why this would be. The leading theories is that it puts my brain into a “survival mode” and that the two bottles cancel each other out. I guess we’ll never know for sure!

Look, I’ve operated heavy machinery, took care of my kids, and paid the bills, and texted all at the same time while drinking and only one of my kids got hurt severely!

If scientists are so sure that I’m a danger when drunk driving then why did they have the government take away my license? Easy. They want to suppress criticism. If I go out there and drive better when I’ve downed a gallon of scotch, it’ll make them all look like idiots.

Science has ruined my life. Just think about it. If there wasn’t some scientist out there brainwashing people about the supposed negative effects of alcohol, I’d still have my license and be employed. It was also scientists that covertly poisoned my liver giving me cirrosis to try and prove their point. Well, if I was gullible enough to think my liver was anything other than a vestigal organ, you might have had me worried there.

Look, writers should be making policy not scientists since policy uses words not chemicals! Also, great writers write and drink alcohol. They know the advantages of alcohol. But it’s always engineers who are never drinking alcohol when they’re designing the latest planes or spaceships (so they never know the benefits!). Engineers are just another type of scientist. Bills in Congress have words. So legislators writing bills should not be influenced by scientists because scientists don’t deal with words, they deal with chemicals. Legislators should be influenced by writers since they understand the written word, especially drunk ones! So I think there’s some bias in our legislature to the opinion of scientists over writers. This is perfect logic!

There is a simple experiment you can do at home to find out what the real effects of alcohol are. Take your dog, your cat, your son and your preacher and give them each 5 shots of tequila. But only give your wife 4 shots. She is the control group. Next, have them drive around in your local school zone preferably between 7:30 and 8 AM and between 2 and 3:30 PM and measure the results. Also, you should be drinking too.

The propagandists over at M.A.D.D. (Mothers Antogonizing Decent Dads) won’t put their claims to the test and they keep on protesting outside my house whenever I do such experiments. I’ve sprayed them with the hose, but that won’t get rid of them for long, and animal control said they don’t want to get involved. See what I have to deal with?

While we won’t get drunk driving made legal just yet, we can at least get around the law. If you suck on a piece of charcoal, you can pass a breathalyzer test. If you eat a couple briquettes, you can pass the coordination exam and if you are really concerned, you can take a suppository of charcoal to pass the backward alphabet test.

They may taste weird, but its worth it!

At least Afroman has the courage to stand up for what’s right.

I’ve always hated the phrase “guilty pleasure”, but Afroman’s The Good Times provides a good definition. Afroman was the guy I avoided in high school. His sexual confidence frightened me as I tried to look cool with the ladies by acting feminist-esque. I thought he was a sexist, crude, jerk – which is really a recipe for brooding jealously from a nice dweeby guy like myself. I hated him. Now my ego says I’ve surpassed him by being in my 30’s with wife, kids, house, and middle middle class income. I can now laugh at his juvenile behavior and never actually go there myself.

But wait, Afroman is smart and knows my ego is a liar. He knows I secretly wish I could be as juvenile as him. He’s playing to some pretty base hedonistic instincts here. Man, I wish I was him. And then as soon as I’m realizing I want to be him he throws in great commentary on family, race, childhood, and country. The track The American Dream echos Gil Scott Heron. The whole album is like a great party: getting plastered and solving the world’s problems all in a night.

Aside from Afroman being completely ridiculous, he has some catchy, clever tracks mixed in with the alcohol and weed-induced “silliness.” In “Palmdale,” the newly self-proclaimed, Frobama, speaks on his interesting life thus far. I actually just found out that this dude still makes music, which was a bit shocking. If he’s making enough to live on, then he must be doing something right (or just dealing drugs). Enjoy.

5/07 Flight of the Conchords at Bass Concert Hall - Can’t beat absurd New Zealander humor. If you got a ticket, don’t waste it.
5/08 Drew Smith, Suzanna Choffel at Lamberts OR Lucero and Black Joe Lewis and The Honeybears at Emo’s - Because the Toadies are overrated as shit. Don’t see ‘em; instead, check out these local guys. Drew Smith has conquered a strange Austin crowd of folk, country, and indie kids with their honest pop sound, and with good reason. Check out the song “Follow Me Down”. Black Joe Lewis needs no introduction, and is always a safe bet for a soulful evening.
5/09 Old Crow Medicine Show at Stubb’s OR Texas Rockabilly Revival [Reverend Horton Heat, Lemmy Kilmister and the Head Cat, The Chop Tops, Hillbilly Casino, Lowdown Shaky Chill, Pickled Punks] at the Nutty Brown Cafe - Anywhere you go, you’re gonna get some gritty, blues tinged sound. Old Crow is some straight vintage Americana with some coke and booze mixed in; on the other hand, Lemmy Kilmister…is fucking Lemmy.
5/10 Afroman and the Frontier Brothers at Aces Lounge – No idea what’s gonna happen at this show, but supposedly Afroman often dabbles in normal DJing, some acoustic songwriting, and generally bein’ pimp as hell. Bring your pussy umbrella, its gonna be a ho-rricane (especially at a venue known for its cabaret show).
5/11 Nine Inch Nails, Jane’s Addiction, Street Sweeper at the Erwin Center – If you’re into synthetic music and/or dudes who have been on cocaine for 20+ years and are somehow still alive.
5/15 Ugly Beats, Amplified Heat, Ripe, The Minx Reaction (formerly Dans La Lune) at Emo’s – Start with an endearingly dorky Ugly Beats, then switch to a hairier, harder rocking Heat to finish things off. Amplified Heat has a notoriously solid live show. For their recorded stuff, check out their Self-Titled reissue or How Do You Like the Sound Of That?
5/16 Car Stereo (Wars) at the Beauty Bar – Notorious Austin mashup artist and DJ.
5/19 Isis and Pelican at Emo’s [outside] – Bring earplugs, but don’t miss it. Each on their own is awe inspiring, together they’re the horseriders of the apocalypse (on that note, when are the Doomriders coming through?)
5/20 Chaos in Tejas kickoff party with Ponytail (12:45am), Harlem (midnight), Teenage Cool Kids (11:15pm), Yellow Fever (10:30pm) at Red 7 [outside, all ages] OR Consider the Source and BetaPlayer at the Mohawk. - Not sure what’s changed over the past few years where Ponytail is allowed within 15 miles of Chaos in Tejas, but whatever. Gotta kick this thing off somehow. If small girls screeching like dying vultures isn’t your thing, jump to Mohawk for CtS.
5/21 Chaos In Tejas presents Propagandi (10:45pm), Trash Talk (10pm), Bridge and Tunnel (9:15pm), Canadian Rifle (8:30pm) at the Mohawk [all ages] - If this one needs to be explained, get the fuck outta here. Propagandhi hasn’t toured Texas in ages, and they’ve got another album under their belt. Expect some serious snark.
5/22 Chaos in Tejas afterparty with World Burns to Death, AI (Japan) at the Broken Neck [all ages] – Loud and angry hardcore.
5/23 Chaos In Tejas presents Amebix (12:45am), Pierced Arrows (2/3 of Dead Moon, 11:30pm), Judgement (Japan, 10:45pm), AI (Japan, 10pm), Warcry (9:15pm), Outlaw Order (8:15pm), Midnight (7:30pm), Drunkdriver (6:45pm) at Emo’s [outside, all ages] – Amebix is legendary, and even if they’ve started coming around more often, they’re still worth the effort of going out to see.
5/24 Chaos in Tejas presents Eyehategod (12:45am), Harvey Milk (11:30pm), Crude (Japan, 10:45pm), Mind Eraser (10pm), Iron Age (9:15pm), Unit 21 (8:30pm) at Red 7 [outside, all ages] – Its Chaos in Tejas. Just go already, if only for Iron Age.
5/25 The Meat Puppets at Waterloo Records [5pm] – Its charming, goofy, and at times immature. And, you can buy CDs at the same time. Win win.

Sabe aquela música que todo mundo sabe cantar, mas ninguém sabe quem é o artista, de onde ele veio e aonde ele foi parar? Pois são estas as canções que embalam o tema do nosso post de hoje!

Bastante comuns em todo mundo, os One Hit Wonders são aqueles artistas que estouraram nas paradas com sua música de lançamento, mas dois meses depois ninguém nunca mais ouviu falar deles. Aqui, de cabeça, consigo me lembrar de vários! Ou vai dizer que alguém aí desconhece pérolas como Xibom Bombom e Bagulho no Bumba?

Aqui no Brasil, ainda temos o agravante das novelas. Responsável por descobrir incontáveis artistas, essas mesmas novelas, quando acabam, levam muitos dos participantes da trilha sonora junto. Alguns ainda tentam ir além dos 5 minutos de fama proporcionado pela “mídia espontânea”, mas dificilmente acabam bem sucedidos.

Mas calma lá, cuidado antes de tachar de One Hit Wonders músicos que, apesar de longe dos holofotes da mídia, possuem uma legião de fãs curtindo seus trabalhos. Artistas como Ana Carolina, Los Hermanos e Adriana Calcanhoto só tiveram um grande sucesso tocando nas rádios, mas suas músicas permanecem agradando os ouvidos de diversas pessoas Brasil afora.

Mas e no mundo? O que definitivamente foi um One Hit Wonder digno de menção aqui no blog da Rock in Rinha?

Existem diversas listas desses sucessos impagáveis, como as dos canal de televisão VH1 nos Estados Unidos, do site Odee ou a do programa de TV australiano 20 to 1. Mas fica aqui a nossa seleção internacional, destacando três One Hit Wonders que com certeza vão fazer você lembrar dos velhos tempos e cantar junto!
