Our most recent photo shoot was met with its fair share of challenges. We had to brave the blazing heat while we were trying to showcase Fall’s finest. It was pouring of course because it’s hurricane season in Florida. We put on our prettiest faces and did our best to “not melt” in the down pours and made the proverbial lemons out of lemonade.  Here’s a sneak peek behind the scenes!

Plaid is becoming the leader of trends for fall/winter. I can’t wait for some chilly fall days to mix and match these update classics, especially warm button down shirts with leggings, booties, and an oversized tote.

The print is continuously growing up from its school-girl days (believe me, I was one of them) and is becoming a cool, edgy, and must-have print. Whether worn via a shirt, scarf, shoes, handbag, or jeans, there are many ways to implement pops of plaid into your wardrobe. I own the AG Jeans above and am looking forward to playing around with them and making them perhaps even edgier with the help of some sexy shoes and chunky accessories.

But when I woke up this morning, to some gloomy San Francisco weather, I kind of understood. Sometimes when you’re just wandering around the mall(s) or going to eat, and/or sitting around watching tv (which is exactly what I did today) – you want to be comfortable. And still a step up from sweats though, not that lazy yet. Or maybe it’s just something about an ugly sweater and jeans that makes me smile

Black Maxi Dresses

Really all maxi dresses have become extremely appealing to me over these past few months. I just love their clean silhouette (tall + skinny = streamlined). Black maxi dresses in particular are somehow harsh and elegant at the same time, especially  this one pictured above (the steal of the day), It’s glamourous pleated “satin,” gives the garment strong lines and texture, it’s going to be sick under a blazer and piece of chunk.. like a gothic movie star.

Crosses

As a follower of Christ, crosses are comforting and have meaning to me, so I’m all about this trend. The leggings pictured, have motorcycle pant detailing around the knees and thigh, kicking them up a notch from the workout-type leggings I wore in the store. Looking at how dowdy my paint splattered, faded black workout leggings looked in comparison to these sleek ones, I consider the purchase a good investment (layer piece). As much as I loved the idea of the top.. I knew it wouldn’t wash well, I didn’t like how long the sides were in comparison to the front and back, and the missing back would make undergarments complicated. Overall, there was too much going on, I like my clothes efficient and simple and this just had unnecessary styling to it.. too trendy.. trying too hard.

However I will be returning for this amazing sweater this weekend! It’s clean, but completely encompasses the cross trend and will look amazing over leggings or jeans. I also loooove crosses on necklaces, and particularly hand jewelry. I’ve got my eye on this piece from Lulu’s. 

Leather – Anything

I should specify.. not actual leather (hot and uncomfortable).  Now this has never really been a trend for me.. just more an all-the-time sort of thing. which is exactly why I didn’t end up purchasing this skirt..1. I have one just like it already, 2. It just wasn’t “new” or exciting enough. The real area of interest for me this fall is coated denim. It’s a win win win win, in the areas of comfort, temperature, price. I think gray “leather” pants are the coolest just because, gray goes with everything (black/brown/navy), and it’s not as harsh as black. They’d be easy to throw on under a flannel button up, infinity scarf, and the subtle bad ass vibes would be off the charts. The only gray coated jeans I can find thus far are AG’s, but there are tons of black ones available at H&M and all over the internet. .. I’m thinking I’ll end up with a black pair from H&M and I’ll cave and order the pricey grays. (gotta indulge a vision)

I  really need to stop shopping before lunch, my pictures are always too blurry (thanks shaking hand). This is not a trend I want to super indulge in.. but I really want to wear this to the Sammy Adams/3oh!3 show I’m going to at the end of September.

So overall vibe I’m going for this fall, edgy but laid back, expressing new trends but subtly.. not everyday needs to be an in-your-face combat boot occasion (but it does help from scaring sketches away from hitting on me in Walmart, carrying a 12 pack of jumbo role toilet paper under my arm around the store is also effective.. putting the two together is magic… but those tricks are for another post).

Q: What is one must have we need critical for our closets this season?:

A: Leather pants (Zara has some very reasonably priced options), or you can do coated denim (Coated Slitback pictured above).

Q: What trends can we expect to see this fall?

A:  Plaid printed denim floral printed denim.

Q: So the floral prints we have seen this spring/summer we can continue during our transition to fall?

A: Yeah, you can pair a bright floral with a black top can help with the transition into the next season

While in San Francisco, I noticed AG Jeans (Adriano Goldshmied). I wasn’t really familiar with the brand but I decided to go in to the store and try them on. To my surprise I found a pair that fit perfectly. I tried on the Dylan skinny jean, in the Rocco wash. They run exactly like Rock & Republic around the waist and around the legs, the length on the dylan is 33 (I wear size 29, I weight 135lbs and I’m 5’10 tall). At first I thought that the Dylan had a high-rise on the back but I got use to it, I think I was trying not to like them because I was so accustomed to R&R. I’ve had mine for almost a year now and the color has not faded. They still look brand new.

The pockets were the only down fall. What I liked about the R&R Colburg jean was that the pockets were not big. I find the AG Dylan pockets to be on the big size for a skinny jeans, but the jeans still look great. I also like the Dylan because there isn’t extra fabric around the fly area, usually a lot of the jeans I tried on have way to much fabric in the crotch area making it look bulky. The jeans come with a button fly.

The denim does not lose its shape. They are made with high premium soft denim with strech making them  not hard or itchy. The Dylan can go from $172 to $225 depending on the wash but I have to say that they are worth every cent.  All AG Jeans are made in the USA. Back in January at the Texworld USA apparel fabrics show in NYC, several of the trend-focussed seminars talked about the rise of coloured and printed denim and related jeanswear fabrics.  This shows no sign of stopping into fall but darker colours (crimson reds, sea greens) are back on the menu, along with leather (who wants to buy me these?) and metallic (for example here.).  I almost rolled my eyes into the back of my head, Blog Reader, when pastel and neon coloured trousers became popular*, but having spent a week in Austin where the colours are bright and the sun is always shining, I can appreciate the need for lighter denim.

I’m quite a fan of the Stilt variety of jeans by AG Jeans – they have a nice soft feel and stretch to them and they come in a range of fabrics, including ikat and tie dye print. The highlighter purple colour goes perfectly with my bargain Marni heels from Moss Austin which I bought last year.

A platform shoe might feel a little unbalanced with the skinny jeans I guess, but the shape  of the heel is so uniquely Marni I quite like showing it off regardless  Paired with a simple peplum top from H&M I was brunch-ready this day.

Well, I found this new mint/gray striped cardigan the other day and it couldn’t be more perfect! I’ve already worn it a couple of times and the compliments are endless. My favorite part about cardis is that you can wear them with any outfit and they seem to pull it all together, especially when they are a bold color. I thought the peach necklace complements the cardigan as well. What do you think??
