I hadn’t even heard of Emma Stone until Zombieland. The movie was gory and funny and maybe the best time I’ve had this year. Those boots Emma (who plays Wichita) sport in film? Bandolino. Agatha to be exact. To be even more exact, a picture:

Unfortunately, they’re from a few seasons ago so slim, slim chances of getting your hands on a pair. Everyone – style hunter, bloggers, etc – seem to be in agreement that the next best thing is a pair of Bandolino Castalina boots. Click on that link to have a look-see. So I’ve officially begun my Agatha Christie readings.  I’ve started with her autobiography.  I’m up to her first out season.  How Victorian.  Although she was, so that makes sense.  It’s hard to imagine her has living in this Victorian age, or towards the end.  I always found her somewhat ahead of her time.  Although, I wonder if she really is or if its just our perception that people back then were some how more innocent than we were.  In some ways yes, but in many ways no.  Her stories always gave me the idea that a self assured, strong author was behind them, but she was terribly shy.  For authors, if shy, writing might offer an escape.  I know its always easier to write than it is to speak in front of group.  It’s always easier to post a blog rather than read a speech.  I wonder what she would have made of something like the internet.  I bet she would have come up with some great internet stories.  Something to ponder….

Pero lo que la trae a Chile no es una simple visita de rigor, más bien es por motivos personales, para festejar nuestro bicentenario, vino a inaugurar este sábado 24 de octubre un mural de 364 m2 ubicado en la fachada de la estación del metro Bellas Artes, la diseñadora comentó que espera y desea que la gente sonría cuando pase por el lugar y mire su mural.

the solving of an airplane murder soars above the average

When I started this book, I admit that I hoped what would happen is that someone would get killed and then Poirot would somehow solve the mystery before the plane ever touched ground. It would be like Murder on the Orient Express except … on an airplane. Which was just two Poirot books ago, which is probably one of the reasons Christie didn’t do that. (For an author so prolific, I find her wonderfully creative from book to book in her contexts and twists and even the flow of action.)

Instead, the murder takes place on an airplane in plain view of everyone, which narrows quite a bit both the field of potential murderers (tough to have someone stowed away on a plane) and the method. Poirot works through, candidate by candidate, until he reaches a wholly surprising conclusion.

I found it engaging, interesting, and the ending was satisfying.

Hello this is my site about And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie. I will be tellilng you a little about the book, becasue I really reccomend it.

First, a computer program analyzed Agatha Christie’s pieces and found that she suffered from brain degeneration. Now, another program probes Shakespeare for plagiarism:

‘The computer program is called “Pl@giarism,” but no one is suggesting the Bard cribbed from others—not yet, at least. Researchers used the software, developed to spot cheating scholars, to take a look at The Reign of King Edward III, an unattributed 1596 play that has recently been added to the canon because of a wealth of Shakespearean turns of phrase. The Times reports the verdict: 40% Shakespeare, 60% Thomas Kyd.

‘The program analyzes the text for three-word phrase matches to a reference sample. “There might be 10 to 20 common phrases between two plays by different authors,” the researcher says, but the portions of Edward now attributed to Shakespeare came up with 200 matches; the remaining portions had 200 matches to works by Kyd. Another expert declares himself “skeptical, frankly, that we have yet reached a stage where these computer-assisted investigations can prove authorship,” but applauds the push to “see Shakespeare not as an eminence,” but as “one among many.”’ —Harry Kimball Source: Times (UK)

Sempre fui um grande fã de rock. Metal, em especial. Minhas bandas prediletas eram Slipknot e Avenged Sevenfold. Quem manja de metal sabe do que estou falando. Como todos sabem, metal não é um estilo que se ouve pra relaxar e pensar na vida, e sim para realmente fazer barulho, ouvir pulando, balançando a cabeça, enfim.

Na verdade, aprendi a gostar de rock com meu tio Álvaro. Ele era fã de Black Sabbath e Slayer. Quando ele me mostrou esse estilo, gostei logo na 1ª vez que ouvi. Atualmente, tio Álvaro está quase surdo, pois ouvia música extremamente alta. Temos que repetir 5 vezes a mesma coisa para ele entender.

Por onde morei, esse estilo de música nunca foi muito popular. Sempre sofri certo preconceito por causa do meu gosto musical. Minha mãe, como fã de MPB (música na qual considero um lixo), sempre me criticou dizendo que minhas músicas não tinham sentido, que eu nem sabia o que eles falavam (e de fato, não sabia, mas o som era maneirão!) e que essas bandas de metal tinha pacto com o capeta. Não tava nem aí, eu nem ligava pra isso, meu negócio era ouvir a música, nem era muito ligado em religião.

Eu andava na rua com meu MP3 com o volume no talo, sendo que todos a minha volta conseguiam ouvir aquilo que eu ouvia. E o povo saía de perto, como se eu tivesse fedendo, ou coisa parecida. No início eu nem dava bola pra isso, mas com o tempo fui ficando cada vez mais isolado.

Decidi que me tornaria um novo homem. Iria parar de ouvir metal e me tornar uma pessoa mais sociável. Era uma decisão difícil. Era como um adolescente perdendo o piru. O metal era meu vício, mas eu estava determinado a viver sem ele.

A primeira semana foi complicada, pois eu não conseguia parar de pensar nas músicas. Porém, tive uma aproximação maior com as pessoas ao meu redor. Aquilo estava melhorando o meu “social”.

Até tentei ouvir outras coisas, mas não adiantava, não tinha o mesmo tesão. Era como beber cerveja sem álcool, ou café sem açúcar.

Nesse novo ciclo social, conheci Agatha, uma linda menina. Ela era uma menina meiga, nada parecido com aquilo que eu costumava me relacionar. O problema para mim é que ela gostava de pagode. No início, não achei que seria um problema, pois era apenas um gosto pessoal. Foi piorando quando ela começou a insistir para eu ir com ela à bailes e festas.

Eu era como um japonês na favela. Tinha a cintura toda dura, não tinha a menor ginga. Eu realmente não nasci pra dançar pagode. Isso sem falar nas letras, extremamente elaboradas, onde existe o início da música tinha meia dúzia de palavras melosas, e o refrão era alguma coisa totalmente imbecil repetida 6 vezes. Mas achei que por Agatha valia a pena.

Quando mostrei pra ela o som que eu curtia antes de conhecê-la, ela levou um susto. Não aguentou ouvir nem 5 minutos de metal, achou aquilo pesado demais (tinha a mesma opinião de minha mãe). Ali, ja vi que não adiantaria tentar levá-la ao meu mundo. O negócio então era tentar falar menos de música com ela.

Porém, ficou cada vez pior. Um dia, Agatha me convidou (recrutou seria a palavra adequada) para ir a uma festinha, onde a “banda” de seu amigo ia tocar (qual era o nome? Inimigos do Ritmo?). Eu não tava com a menor vontade de ir, mas não conseguia dizer não a ela.

Chegando lá, e começa aquela desgraça. Povo cantando com voz de choro, os outros se esfregando em uma dança que dizem ser ’sensual’. Enquanto eu estava sentado na mesa ao lado de Agatha. Ela perguntou se eu queria dançar, eu disse que estava com o joelho machucado (velha desculpa que nunca falha), e ela foi sozinha para a ‘pista’.

Achei que não teria problemas. Mas, como sempre, eu estava enganado. No meio daquele bacanal que eles chamam de dança, Agatha começa a dançar com um cara, que começa naquele esfrega-esfrega com ela. Naquele momento, o sangue veio aos meus olhos e me enfureci.

Naquele instante, o metal voltou à minha vida. Quando vi aquela cena, eu conseguia ouvir a voz rouca de Corey Taylor gritando “PEOPLE = SHIT! PEOPLE = SHIT!“

Lembro parcialmente do que aconteceu. Só me recordo de ter ido até a pista e dado uma cabeçada no meio do nariz do palhaço. Os seguranças me tiraram dali e Agatha nunca mais olhou em minha cara (meses depois, fiquei sabendo que ela estava namorando o cara cujo nariz foi quebrado por mim, vadia!).

Depois daquilo, pensei que não valia a pena mudar só para as pessoas gostarem de mim. Voltei a ouvir meu bom e velho metal. Atualmente, não tenho namorada, tenho poucos amigos, mas pelo menos não estou como tio Álvaro (comigo, as pessoas só precisam falar 3 vezes). Como diria Jimmy, do Matanza, PÉ NA PORTA E SOCO NA CARA!

que é igual o de Ágatha. E olha que nem combinamos hein. Estamos tão conectadas que eu senti que o brinco era aquele kk. Como prometido tirei umas fotinhos (eu mesma tirei né. Pedi pra mainha tirar, mas ela não é uma boa fotógrafa). Minha câmera não é aquela maravilha, aí o flash ficou bem em cima de mim kkk

Acho tão linda essa farda nova da Nassau.

Não gosto muito de usar tiara e prender o cabelo. Minhas orelhas já são grandes, não precisa evidenciar kk.

Acabei de receber uma ligação de uma vendedora super fofa, a Naiara da Agatha do Plaza Shooping que foi mega-hiper-ultra atenciosa comigo a umas semanas atrás quando comprei um vestido totaty off off off da coleção de verão de 2008, mas lindo, de seda, azul celestem … a cara desse verão! rsrsrsrs

Era pra avisar que a AGATHA estava lançando a nova coleção e que me esperava lá para um coquetel.

Isso me fez pensar em duas coisas

1) Ela realmente é uma otima vendedora, vai se dar bem! Independente do que eu levei e quanto eu gastei, foi super simpática e não ficou tentando me empurrar nada que eu não queria. Depois disso ainda tenta manter a cliente (ok, isso é meu lado marketeiro falando alto)

2) É impressionante como nada na Agatha me agrada! Não sei porque mas 90% das vezes que eu entro lá, nada que eu experimento cai bem em mim! Acho a qualidade das peças muito baixas pelo valor pago, sem contar que a cartela de cores é sempre a mesma, entrando e saindo de estação e alguns modelos de peças tb.

Na última temporada eu até comprei mais umas coisas, mas só pq os casacos de tricô e de plush estava realmente lindos. Nessa, (sim, eu já vi a nova coleção em outro shopping) no máximo uma regatinha listrada em tons pastéis que tb foi bem carinha olhando de perto a qualidade R$79,90.

Confesso que ela me deixou curiosa e fui olhar o lookbook de perto no site.

Já de cara tomei um susto ao ver a BRUNA TENÓRIO estampando a coleção deles! Agora sim justifica os R$79,90 que eu paguei na minha regata!

O que eu Gostei:

Amei essa bolsa Branca e não o look monocromatico mãe de santo

A tomara que caia com decote coração e bojo com essa estampa ficou perfeita, fato que voi correr atras dela.

Blusa de alca larguinha em seda. É seda neh gente, nao tem tecido mais cara do verão que seda.

Agora o que eu definitivamente não curti!

Mais botas Cowboy??? Deus me livre!!!  Dou a dica para quem quiser aderir, correr no TOP Fashion no Jockei Clubr RJ que na Dress e na Via Mia tem pencas baratinhas …

Essa estampa de arco iris destanado não é de toda feia, mas acho muito marcante, muito hiponga e impossivel de se usar depois em outra época.

O vestido de malha azul (esse tom de azul é muito deles e da Espaço Fashion, toda coleção ele está lá!) é muito despontado para o tecido que é. Conforme o uso essas pontinhas vão todas enrolando e deformando o vestido.

O vestido em malha grossa roxo (na dress tb tem um mega parecido) acredito não valorizar o corpo de qq pessoa. Logo ali em cima da barriguinha (esquerda) tem uma prega giga marcada que dá todo o caimento no resto do vestido.

Resumindo: Não consigo entender qual a proposta da Agatha. Coisas muito legais e finas. Vestidos de Seda impecáveis e caréssimos do lado de muita malha e viscolycra que não aguentam duas lavagens. Vou passar lá amanhã pra ver essa tomara que caia de perto, nas mãos e se tiver mais novidades posto aqui!

E vocês, o que acham da Agatha? Tem outra impressão da marca?

After being back in the states for about two weeks, I still miss Poland and wish I was there. Having taught in the Bieszczady mountain region, I came to cherish the peacefullness of the area and the relaxed lifestyle that is the norm for most of the inhabitants there. Yes there were moments where I wished there was more than just a grocery store to go to, but being able to wake up, teach, and then have nothing else important going on (biking, getting ice cream, swimming, or talking over coffee isn’t exactly stressful) is something that I miss.

Being one of the only volunteers who speaks Polish, my experience was no more, no less fruitful than theirs. Just different, as I was able to connect with my host family and neighbors in a slightest different way. My host mother and I email back and forth, with her begging me to come for a visit soon so we can grab some coffee and sit in her kitchen chatting about anything and everything…something she normally doesn’t have someone to do with because of her new hotel. Would I go back there? In a heart beat!

I spent my last 12 days in Poland traveling around, going to Wrocław with Anna, the lovely program director, and then visiting my family in rural Eastern Poland. One cousin even lives in a more rural part of Poland than where I taught and I spent 4 nights sleeping in a hay loft! It actually is incredibly comfortable…fresh air, no bugs or mice! You all should try it! Haha. I also visited my second cousins, one of whom is a museum director and took me for a tour of the city he lived in. He also is a reporter and runs a news website and I could do a shameless plug for it, but eh!

If you have a chance to go to Poland and teach, do it! Don’t hesitate! You’ll at first be surrounded by incredible students from all over the US and English, then a caring family, and most importantly, the students. You don’t know what kind of students you’ll get or their interest/skill level, but you will grow to accept what you have. It isn’t always easy, as students start to skip out on you or you feel your lessons aren’t good enough, but don’t get discouraged. Learn from everyday and every person you meet there. It may end up that you  learn more from some of your students than they do from you, but that’s ok. In the end, you all come away with something that you can keep the rest of you life.

Oh, and make sure to leave some time after the program to travel around Poland! You’ll already know some words, be ok with the transportation system (both how it works and the accomodations), so go out there and see some more! Other countries work too P
