(mf) Das Jahr neigt sich dem Ende entgegen. Es kommt wieder die Zeit der obligatorischen BestOfs und Jahresrückblicke. Weil auch wir uns diesem Trend nicht widersetzen wollen (Wer schwimmt schon gerne gegen den Strom? Ist ja auch viel zu anstrengend), möchte ich Euch heute meine drei Lieblingsalben aus diesem Jahr präsentieren.

Natürlich folgen wir hier bei AddOn keinen Trends, schließlich sind wir Rebellen des digitalen Zeitalters! Aber ich habe in letzter Zeit enorm viel Musik gehört und mir ist aufgefallen, dass trotz des stark sinkenden Niveaus in der Musikindustrie – die Welt wird, meiner Meinung nach, seit Jahren mit Konservenmusik und Coverversionen eingedeckt, während nur einige wenige Künstler sich und ihre Musik neu zu erfinden scheinen – gerade 2009 einige sehr gute Alben auf den Markt gekommen sind.

Einige schöne Beispiele hierfür, die es leider dennoch nicht in meine TOP 3 geschafft haben, sind die Sportfreunde Stiller bei MTV Unplugged in New York, das neue Album “Darum Leben Wir” von Cassandra Steen, die trotz ihres Wechsels zum Labelriesen Universal weiterhin bodenständige, von Herzen kommende Lieder zu schreiben scheint und natürlich “Invaders Must Die” von The Prodigy. Diese sind hierbei übrigens der Beweis dafür, dass das was ich oben geschrieben habe, bezüglich “neuen Erfindens”, nicht zwangsläufig notwendig ist, um gute Musik zu machen. Es schmerzt mich nicht, diesbezüglich lügend gestraft zu werden, da die drei Engländer mit ihrer neuen Platte eine hervorragende Hommage an Vergangenes geschaffen haben, die zugleich progressiv und massenkompatibel ist.

Auch das “Iz On” Album der Söhne Mannheims möchte ich hier lobend erwähnen, obwohl ich seit einer unglücklichen Begegnung mit Tino Oac vor einigen Jahren nicht mehr ganz der Fan bin (dazu ein andermal mehr), der ich einmal war. Dennoch ist das neue Album wiedermal verdammt gut geworden und ich hoffe, die Drohung, dass “das vielleicht die letzte Platte ist, BestOfs ausgenommen” sich nicht bewahrheitet, obwohl ich mich frage, wie sie es auch schaffen sollten das Wort “Zion” noch ein weiteres mal im Titel unterzubringen. “Zion” vom ersten Album zu “Noiz” im zweiten zu verwandeln schien relativ leicht. “Iz On” daraus zu machen, grenzte schon an einen Geniestreich. Was kommt dann? “In Oz” oder aktuell zum Thema “Mauerfall” “Zoni”? Es gibt wohl doch noch einige Möglichkeiten, also haut rein Jungs und keep up the good work! Falls das nächste Album “In Oz” oder “Zoni” heißen sollte, möchte ich übrigens als geistiger Schöpfer Tantiemen erhalten.

Die Söhne haben es also als Gruppe leider nicht auf’s Treppchen geschafft, doch wie so oft im Leben, fällt der Apfel nicht weit vom Stamm und so hat wenigstens ein Sohn den Sprung in meine persönliche TOP 3 geschafft. Eigentlich hätte er locker alle drei Plätze für sich beanspruchen können, denn sein neues Album kommt gleich auf drei Silberlingen daher. Die Aufteilung auf drei Scheiben scheint auf den ersten Blick wie Materialverschwendung, denn die Lieder hätten bestimmt auch auf zwei gepasst, aber wenn man sich intensiver mit den Texten und Stimmungen auseinandersetzt, macht alles sehr wohl Sinn. Ich bin nicht erst sein Fan, seit ich ihn in unserer alten Heimat Eisenberg (ca. 40 km westlich von Mannheim) mit einem weißen Porsche Carrera GT zum ALDI einkaufen fahren gesehen habe. Nein, das erste Mal fiel mir der schwarze Herbert Grönemeyer bei einem Konzert von Sabrina Setlur im Backround Chor auf, da er mit seiner schönen Stimmfarbe einfach herausragte. Umso erfreuter war ich, als 1998 “Nicht von dieser Welt” den Weg in meinen CD-Player fand. Leider erschien sein Debütalbum aus dem Jahre 1993 nur in den USA, weil der Künstler seine ersten musikalischen Schritte als peinlich und “seelenlos” empfand.

Lange genug um den heißen Brei geredet. Das erste Album in meiner TOP 3 2009 ist natürlich:

Platz 3 – Xavier Naidoo “Alles kann besser werden”

Das Album/die Alben ist/sind der absolute Hammer. Musikalisch ein absoluter Genuss – mir gefällt einfach dieser wohlige volle Klang, der Xavier’s Musik ausmacht; Violinen, Celli, Piano und Bassgitarre angetrieben von einem kräftigen Beat. Auch wenn sicherlich jede Menge an Technik zum Einsatz kam, hört man doch den reichlichen Gebrauch analoger Instrumente heraus, was mein Livemusikherz erfreut. Und auch wenn man ihm gelegentlich religiösen Fanatismus nachsagt, und Viele genau deshalb nichts mit seinen Texten anfangen können, so spricht er, zumindest mir, allzu oft aus der Seele. Wer auch nur ansatzweise mit Xavier was anfangen kann, sollte sich das Album zulegen – für Fans sowieso ein Pflichtkauf!

Wir bleiben in deutschen Landen und die Musikrichtung ändert sich nur unmerklich. Auf dem Silberrang meiner TOP 3 landete in diesem Jahr ein Künstler, den ich vor einigen Jahren garnicht in Betracht gezogen hätte, was vielleicht daran liegt, dass er einer der Künstler ist, die erst auf den zweiten, manchmal dritten, Blick eine gewisse Genialität erkennen lassen. Ähnlich wie sein amerikanisches Pendant Eminem, hat man ihn lange als anarchistischen HipHop-Spinner und Möchtegern-Gangster abgetan und nicht verstanden, was er mit seinen Texten überhaupt auszudrücken versucht. Seine komplette Trilogie genialer Soloalben holte in Deutschland jeweils Gold, das letzte sogar Platin, weshalb er sich selbst gerne als “Goldjungen” bezeichnet. Der gebürtige Ostberliner Paul Hartmut Würdig hat mit seinem neuen Album nicht nur Mama stolz gemacht:

Platz 2 – Sido “Aggro Berlin”

Wenn man dem Intro Glauben schenkt, hat der gute Sido seine geliebte Maske endgültig in den Schrank verbannt und das Label Aggro Berlin zu Grabe getragen. Natürlich sehen die Hardcorefans, sowie Sido auch selbst, diese Entwicklung mit “einem lachenden und einem weinenden Auge”, jedoch bleibt uns der Ex-Maskenmann als Ausnahmerapper erhalten, denn an das Aufhören denkt dieser ganz bestimmt noch nicht. Stilblüten wie “Hey Du”, “Schlampen Von Gestern” und “Marie und Jana” gehören ebenso wieder zum Programm der Platte, wie der Auftritt eines bekannten deutschen Comedians, der für erheiternde Skits sorgt. Kurt Krömer zählt zu einer kleinen elitären Personengruppe, die es schafft mich mit wenigen Worten und Gesten zum Lachen zu bringen, weshalb sein Gastauftritt für mich einen ganz besonderen Charm ausmacht. Darüber hinaus sorgen Siggi’s typischer Wortwitz und seine gekonnte Selbstironie, für die wir ihn so lieben, für die nötige Langzeitmotivation. Rundum ein super Album und definitiv eine Kaufempfehlung für alle Fans deutschsprachigen HipHops und solchen, die es werden wollen.

Ein weiteres Novum erwartet mich und Euch auf Platz eins meiner TOP 3  in diesen Jahr. Denn zum ersten Mal überhaupt, seit ich Denken bzw. bewusst Musik hören kann, kommen alle drei meiner Lieblingsalben aus der Bundesrepublik und folgen dem erfreulichen Trend der Deutschsprachigkeit. Überhaupt finde ich die Rückkehr zu guter deutschsprachiger Musik extrem befriedigend. Die deutsche Sprache ist eben nicht nur in gesprochener und geschriebener Form eine schöne Sache, wie man unschwer an meinem reichlichen Gebrauch dieser erkennen kann, sondern auch in gesungener. Eigentlich ist das Album ein wenig spät dran, denn es kam bereits im Herbst letzten Jahres auf den Markt. Aber der eigentliche Durchbruch des frischgebackenen Solokünstlers kam erst mit dem ersten Platz beim Bundesvision Song Contest 2009 im Februar. Darauf folgte eine knappe Woche später der Echo in der Kategorie HipHop/Urban und spätestens ab diesem Zeitpunkt drehten alle ihr Radio auf bis zum Anschlag, wenn die Celli des Babelsberger Filmorchesters in eindringlichem Staccato den Song “Alles Neu” ankündigten.

Platz 1 – Peter Fox “Stadtaffe”

Diese ehrenvolle Auszeichnung erhält der gute Pierre Baigorry (Peter Fox‘ bürgerlicher Name) nicht, weil mich “Stadtaffe” an meinen alten Nickname PixelMonkey erinnert, auch nicht weil er wie ich französische Wurzeln hat und auch nicht, weil mein Bart im gleichen Orange-Rot glänzt wie seiner. Nein. Überzeugt hat mich einzig und allein die extrem hohe musikalische Kunstfertigkeit, mit der die Scheibe aufwartet. Ich liebe diese Orchestralmusik, begleitet von wummernden Bässen und einer knallhart geschlagenen Snare. Für unfassbar innovativ halte ich außerdem die Verbindung aus klassischer Musik mit dem für Dance Hall und Reggaeton bekannten Offbeat. Abgerundet wird das Gesamtkonzept mit einer lyrischen Finesse, die ich ohne weiteres als Poesie bezeichne, wofür er wohl auch völlig zurecht den Kritikerpreis beim diesjährigen Echo erhielt. Peter Fox ist für mich ein ganz Großer – musikalisch wie menschlich ist er es mehr als Wert, dass man sich mit ihm auseinandersetzt. “Stadtaffe” sollte daher für jeden Musikliebhaber (genreunabhängig) Pflichtkauf sein!

In diesem Sinne, freuen wir uns gemeinsam auf ein hoffentlich musikalisch ebenso ertragreiches Jahr 2010. Bis dahin: “Guten Morgen, Berlin!”

Guild Wars gold is needed for every reason and that is why farming for items to get you gold is a neccessity. A warrior can farm alot of gold just by soloing. Farming smite crawlers in the Underworld can gain you lots of gold that I’m sure we can all use.

The Build includes the following skills, Vengeful was Khanhei, Vengeful weapon, resilient weapon, watch yourself, dolyak signet, healing signet, bonetti’s defence, and sprint. Other speed buffs would help as well.

To start you’ll need to get out of the chamber by using speed buffs to evade the Aatxes. After losing them they will return to its original location. This build is unable to defeat Aatxes so thus running would be a good idea.

Upon entering you will need to get the quest from the Lost Soul. If you aggro and mobs you will have to sprint back to the cliff where you started. If you aggro a Dying Nightmare you should be able to kill it with Vengeful Weapon twice. Once you have received the quest many monsters will pop up on your min map. Graspin gDarkness’s are not difficult to handle, lure them them out and kill them. Usually a group of 3 to 4 will come at a time. If you manage to aggro anymore Aatxes just run back to the cliff.

Once lured hit Dolyak with your sword or axe until Bonetti’s is charged, then use Vengeful was Khanhei. Rinse and repoeat until they are all dead. Once the 3 groups of grasping are dead you can escape the chamber. It’s important that you take out the graspings because they interrupt and energy drain, which can be handled using Bonetti’s.

It usually takes about 30 minutes to complete and you would be able to collect 1 or more Globs of Ectoplasm, and 2000 gold worth of drops. A glob of ectoplasm sells for about 8,000 gold. Each run you can get a total of 10,000 gold minus the 1,000 entry. Within an hour you should be able to collect at least 18,000 gold. Not too bad I would say. I usually would prefer to buy the gold myself than to spend that hour farming it. 100,000 gold only costs about $10.

Una de las mejores bandas de Coley Taylor, Slipkot, vino por ultima vez al fin del mundo el año 2005, todavia me acuerdo estaba en el colegio y lo unioco que queria era ir a verlos tocar y mas encima tenian teloneando a Dorso, que por si no sabven uno de los integrante es el Pera de “Maldita Sea”, “Planeta Freak” etc….

1. Han habido 13 miembros en la vida de Slipknot incluyendo uno que se vestía de bebé.

2. Slipknot tocó por primera vez oficialmente en un local el 4 de abril de 1996 en The Safari en Des Moines, Iowa, Dandole a Clown su propio bar, imaginamos que tubieron una buena prueba de sonido.

3. El miembro mas nuevo de Slipknot es el guitarrista James Root quien se unió despues que ya estaban listos para empezar a grabar el album debut. Reemplazó a Josh Brainard quien le gustaría saber si quieres papas fritas. Probablemente.

4. Le tomó tres días para Slipknot manejar a 1.466 millas de Iowa a la grabación de estudio Indigo Ranch, en Malibú, California. ¿488,666 millas por día?. Cuando llegaron, pasaron varias horas atrapado en el tráfico de LA, que se mueve ligeramente más rápido que la velocidad del olfato.

8. Antes de embarcarse en el Ozzfest 99, Corey Taylor apagó sus cuerdas vocales y estaba prohibido de hablar durante más de una hora y media al día. Usó su media hora sobre el escenario y llevaba un lápiz y papel para todo el recorrido.

Antes de establecerse en la línea actual, Shawn Crahan era el baterista antes de pasar a la percusión, Craig Jones fue guitarrista antes de pasar a los samplers y Chris Fehn quería ser de Joey Jordison, mientras que tanto Corey Taylor y Jim Root se trasladó de Stone Sour. Es como las sillas musicales con sillas de explotar.

10. Debut de Slipknot Wait And Bleed solo fue votado como mejor canción de metal 36a de todos los tiempos por VH1. Si se agregan los 3 y 6 obtiene 9, el número de miembros de Slipknot! ¿Coincidencia? Bueno, probablemente ahora que lo mencionan…

Soyez pro-actif.

Cela signifie que vous devez produire des soins en prévision des dégats qui vont venir, pas en fonction des dégats qui se sont déjà produits, y compris lorsque quelqu’un provoque une aggro malencontreuse.

Lorsque une aggro survient, cela amène généralement une des deux actions suivantes : soit la personne va recevoir une grosse baffe, soit un sort sera lancé sur elle. Dans les deux cas, vous pouvez valablement estimer que cela ne fera aucun bien, ça va blesser..

Dès qu’une aggro a lieu (peu importe l’aggro, qu’elle soit voulue ou non), vous devriez…

• Immédiatement lancer un sort protecteur si vous en disposez (Bouclier sacré ou Mot de pouvoir : Bouclier par exemple).
• Lancer un sort de soin instantané ou rapide (Éclair lumineux, Cercle de soins, Rénovation…).
• Puis lancer un gros sort de soin (Lumière sacrée, Soins supérieurs, etc.).
• Être prêt à lancer un sort d’urgence (Esprit gardien, Horion sacré, Toucher guérisseur -instantané-…)
• Être prêt à dissiper un effet (magie, poison, malédiction et maladie)

Bien sûr, c’est à adapter en fonction de votre classe (le druide s’inscrit dans cet exercice de façon très particulière par exemple).

Dans un autre ordre d’idée, mais toujours à propos de l’anticipation, je vous invite à jeter un coup d’oeil à ce post d’Okar si le “tanking” vous stimule aussi les babines.

Nothing like a bit of magical bread to start your day off the right way. It can even magically toast itself. That wonderful, magical bread MMMMMMMMMMMMMmmmmmmmmmmmmm…… Sorry about that. Where was I? I was going to tell you about the wonderful acronym, BREAD.

So what is BREAD? Not only is a great thing to make a sandwich with, but in Magic it makes all the difference in Limited. What does BREAD mean? To put it simply BREAD is:

• Bombs
• Removal
• Efficient Spells
• Aggro
• Dirt

Bombs are anything that can win you the game. A bomb in M10 would be Ant Queen. The Queen is efficient at a 5/5 for 5 mana already, but what makes it special is that you can pump out 1/1 tokens for attacking or blocking. Another would be Overrun. Overrun can flat out win you the game if your deck uses it right. Next up is removal. I’m sure we all know what removal is and how valuable it can be to help win the game. Removal can be a card that destroys a creature to something like Pacifism that can lock the creature down and make it worthless to the opponent. Also discard and counter spells can be counted as removal as well. Being able to strip away a bomb or any other important spell from your opponent before it even has any affect on the game is great. Removal should picked highly in any color that you can put it into. Efficient Spells are spells that can help you out through your games. This could be something like Divination. This also includes cards that can be used in combination with other cards. One example would be Prodigal Pyromancer and Gorgon Flail. Both alone can be good, but combined they are a two card wrecking crew that acts like a permanent mode of removal. Speaking of which, Equipment and Auras fall into this category quite a bit. Aggro is up next. Aggro is basically your creatures or face burning spells(e.g. Lava Axe). With creatures it is best to try and make sure that you have a decent curve going. If you have to many small creatures you will lose gas later on and if you have to many high cost creatures you won’t be able to put up much of a fight early on and will pay for it later in the game. Evasive creatures do the best job at getting through and should be picked higher than a creature with out them unless that creature is a Bomb or is more cost effective. Dirt is our last category of BREAD. Dirt is the cards that usually make to the end of the draft or are just a jank card in your sealed pool. A recent example would be Soul Bleed. While Soul Bleed could possible help end the game, it doesn’t do it very good and the creature is still free to do as it pleases. These are the kind of cards that you want to pick a land over instead of having it as a 13-15 pick in packs. Next time you play in a draft or are putting together a deck from a sealed pool, remember the wonderful Magic BREAD.

Depuis que je suis allé dépanner à Naxxramas 10 en soin avec mon Paladin la semaine dernière, j’ai repris goût au jeu en plaque et je n’ai de cesse depuis quelques jours que de trouver de l’équipement de tanking pour lui. Comme j’ai également monté le métier de Forgeron, j’ai déjà pu me faire moi-même des parties de mon armure, mon bouclier et même de nouvelles chasses de gemme dans mes brassards ainsi que dans ma ceinture : bien pratique. Ne reste plus qu’à mettre ça à jour avec les drops en instance et en particulier à l’Épreuve des champions.

Tanker en paladin… non mais quelle blague !

Plusieurs modèles de construction des arbres de talent sont possibles pour tanker pourvu que les talents-clefs soient pris. On peut s’orienter plus sur l’utilité en raid avec un template comme celui-ci, préconisé pour Ulduar par exemple, ou bien axer ses ressources sur les critiques -et donc les dégats et la menace- pour le contenu pré-Ulduar avec ce template (qui est celui que j’utilise présentement).

Une vraie blague, donc.

La menace monte tellement vite et tient tellement fort sur les packs que c’est à en dégouter définitivement de tanker avec ma druidesse en ours comme je le fais de temps en temps. Même à un niveau de stuff très inférieur, je tank mieux, disons-le carrément, que mon oursonne. Bien sûr la capacité de mon paladin à mitiger les dégats est encore bien moindre, mais cela peut vite se compenser par la présence d’un très bon healer comme lorsque je fais appel à l’un des soigneurs de ma conjointe. Enfin, sa patience et sa bonne volonté aident aussi beaucoup (hin hin hin) ^^

Je vais donc, pour un moment encore, me concentrer sur le développement du Paladin en tank et mes expériences d’hier à Azjol-Nérub, Gundrak, Drak’Tharon, Nexus, Fort Pourpre et l’Épreuve des Champions (eh oui, en héroïque aussi grâce au puissant heal dont je disposais) vont me permettre d’aller encore plus loin dans la maîtrise de ce personnage qui est, vraiment, très plaisant à jouer et auquel j’ai déjà pu acheter ses premiers objets avec des emblèmes de conquête (un excellent collier, le Collier de la fougue infaillible, et surtout le Libram du bouclier saint qui vient remplacer cet odieu petit Libram qu’on est obligé d’aller chercher aux Grisonnes si l’on ne fait pas de PvP).

Ayer descargué un disco de Aneurisma desde no se qué página y me disponía a escucharlo mediante JuK, pero resulta que venían las canciones en formato wma y no en mp3, por lo que dicho pograma no podía reproducirlas (no se por qué diablos). Inmediatamente busqué alguna aplicación que me sirviera para transformar ese maligno y maldito formato (wma) en el menos maligno pero no menos maldito formato mp3. Como uso KDE busqué en KDE-Apps y sólo encontré un programa, llamado soundkonverter, lo hubiese instalado desde los repos de Arch pero es para KDE3 y la verdad, no me gusta usar programas que dependen de una versión antigua de KDE. Luego de googlear y googlear y googlear encontré ninguna otra aplicación para KDE que permita hacer lo mismo que soundkonverter, por lo que me decidí a hacerlo a través de la terminal (no me quedaba otra xD). Entonces dí con esta entrada de LinuxHispano donde muestran como crear un script para cambiar el formato .wma al famosísimo .mp3. Aquí va el tutorial:

Instala los paquetes mplayer y lame en tu sistema. Si usas Arch esto sería así:

# pacman -S mplayer lame

Crea un archivo llamado wmamp3 (en realidad puede tener cualquier otro nombre, pero es importante que lo recuerdes, por ello debe ser un nombre simple y relacionado con lo que deseas hacer)

Dentro de dicho archivo copia el siguiente texto:

Dale permisos de ejecución al archivo:

# chmod +x ~/wmamp3

Cópialo a la carpeta /bin para que el script esté disponible sin necesidad de señalar su ruta:

# cp ~/wmamp3 /bin

Ahora sólo queda ir a la carpeta donde están los archivos .wma y ejecutar el script:

Los archivos se transformarán en .mp3. OJO: el script BORRA TODOS los ficheros .wma por lo que después de ejecutarlo sólo tendrás los archivos .mp3 en la carpeta donde ejecutaste dicho script.

Una de las cosas que más hago es descargar música desde internet y también compartirla (siguiendo el consejo de Don Richard Stallman). Pues resulta que me encontraba “ordenando” mi colección musical y sólo por curiosidad busqué en la wikipedia información acerca del Disco EP de Deftones llamado (Like) Linus. Grande fue mi sorpresa cuando leo esto:

(Like) Linus es el primer demo de la banda de Metal Alternativo Nu Metal Deftones, que fue lanzado independientemente por la banda. El nombre del demo hace referencia al creador de la marca corporativa Linux, Linus Torvalds.

Por eso me llamaba tanto la atención el nombre de ese disco xD, sabía que tenía algo conocido por mi pero no sabía qué. La verdad es que jamás relacioné una cosa (Deftones) con la otra (Linus Torvalds)

Curiosamente, también, la canción número 7 del mismo disco se llama “Root”.

Soy un fanático del Nu-Metal o Aggro (como se le dice comúnmente en Chile) y un usuario de GNU/Linux por lo que esto me pareció muy curioso.

I’m an aggro mage. If I play Cryptic Command there better be a good amount of smash face next to it. But Lorwyn’s rotating soon, and with it goes the most loved and hated blue card in Standard in recent memory. So it’s time to find a deck to play post-rotation, and one good place to start is the block constructed lists from Pro-Tour Honolulu in June. I like speed, I like resiliency, and I like unconventional lists. I love Bloodbraid Elf but I don’t have to play it to feel like I’m playing aggro. So how about Brian Kibler’s Esper lists that got him to the Top 8 in his triumphant return to the Pro Tour? (Don’t discount the suit, either.) Here’s his deck:

The deck is fun and fast, but cries out for removal. Thopter Foundry seems like a block-only list, but it buys us time against other aggro decks and also pumps Glaze Fiend, so I think the main deck (aside from the mana base, which we’ll get to later) can stay as is.

So what happens when we throw in M10 and what’s been revealed thus far in Zendikar? M10 allows us access to Negate, Essence Scatter, Doom Blade, Harm’s Way, and a big fuck you against mass removal in Open the Vaults. Zendikar hasn’t shown anything in the way of aid for this deck, but what we saw in Alara block may be enough to suffice.

Let’s move to the sideboard. If you replace the subpar sideboard cards (Countersquall, etc.) with standard equivalents, you get this:

3 Open the Vaults
2 Essence Scatter
3 Zombie Outlander

It’s a start. Open the Vaults looks a lot better in place of Sanctum Gargoyle, but because it’s a 6-drop in an aggro deck perhaps we should cut it to two. Doom Blade feels like it has to make its way in there somehow. What does Zombie Outlander do that Vedalken Outlander doesn’t? It doesn’t survive Volcanic Fallout and it’s not an artifact creature. Out you go. On top of that, I don’t think I need Essence Scatter; I can race pretty easily.

Much better. Now on to the mana base. Arcane Sanctum should probably come out. Glacial Fortress and Drowned Catacomb are the obvious candidates to replace it, but in what quantity? Look at the color distribution of the spells (Borderposts not included, as they will almost always cost one colorless mana to play):

White: 25 symbols main, 9 sideboard
Blue: 21 symbols main, 5 sideboard
Black: 12 symbols main, 4 sideboard

Despite the fact that both dual lands and both Borderposts produce blue, I feel that running only three Islands compared to four swamps is a bit sketchy after seeing that distribution. In my playtesting of this deck you need a blue source turn 1 or 2 and if you don’t have Borderposts you’d better have an Island. We’ll leave the land count untouched, but here’s what I’m thinking for distribution.

Overall dealing with issues of exclusivity. the primary relationships in a group going up against something that can easily smash any one of the group’s faces in (if they were facing them alone), it falls upon each point to know what they need to know… and how to best approach the attack.

The tanks position is to gather as much data as they can about what they are going up against… they are the ultimate strategist. not everything will hinge upon this though, but the fight can be much less like pulling a tooth than it should… if this is included. ego’s really have to be flushed down the toilet by the wanna-be main tanks that do not know enough about what their targets can do ‘just stand around me… all will be fine!’… that is fine but what about the freaking mob’s cleave… i guess the clothie’s will survive one of them, the healers can pick up the slack… WRONG.

the odd and sad thing about tanking is there is a duality there… since you are the wall that has to stand against the big baddy, you get this over confident whatever thinking well you did not go down ‘you must be a god at tanking’… but the truth is it is the strength of your healers that prevented the wall to fall. tanks are the front line in defense, but even though a wall… they are a point. and no point is any more important than any other parts.

The right tank for the right job.

Speaking on lines of interrupts… warriors have the fastest recovery and most abilities to interrupt. they should always be prioritized as such. if a warrior is not present for tanking… death knights fall into the next best interrupting… theirs are on a longer cd. but in a pinch it will be better, both druids and paladins have minimal capability here… druids have the faster recovery in their interrupt over paladins.

so on an interrupt priority:

Warrior > Death Knight > Druid > Paladin

Now on a health pool perspective is as follows (and yes in an equal gearing this is how the tanks should look health-wise). Warriors should overall have the least hp as they have the highest avoidance.

Health (equal gearing):

Druid > Paladin > Death Knight > Warrior

Now in the avoidance field things look different.

Avoidance (again equal gearing, enchants and gemming):

Warrior > Death Knight > Paladin > Druid

On to tanking specifics

Single Target Tank:

Warrior > Druid > Death Knight > Paladin

AoE Tank (Mass Tanking):

Paladin > Death Knight > Druid > Warrior

Single Point of Avoidance Tanking (Hateful Strikes… )

Druid > Death Knight > Warrior > Paladin

and also a tank or 2 that ends up confused after every single pull. how does this fight work again? oh yes i will be making a section on strategy, comprehensive and simple versions… and the simple versions are no brainers

This is a simple chart to follow when something is on you that should not be.

I was laughing my ass off today when another DPSer complained about aggro. It wasn’t of any regular complaint like the tank wasn’t doing his job – it was about rogues doing immense DPS with Fan of Knives after using Tricks of the Trade (aggro transfer to another player, primarily tanks obviously) and then using Vanish when getting aggro from too many mobs, and then another DPSer who was next on aggro got the killing blow in his face, instead of the sneaky rogue. How is that a rogue’s fault, if one cannot keep his or her aggro under the tank? Let’s state a few obvious, but I guess not to some, facts:

1. A DPSer is never held responsible for another DPSer’s aggro. You are responsible of your own and the consequences followed by it.
2. A DPSer can do whatever he or she wants with their aggro, also meaning overaggro, as long as it doesn’t jeopardize positioning, or any other important events in an encounter (eg. tank throw in phase 1 during Thaddius in Naxxramas).
3. A DPSer that goes over aggro is from that point in charge of his or her own survivability, that meaning using eg. Vanish, an aggro nullifier. Blaming others when it’s obviously your own fault is blatantly foolish.
4. This doesn’t mean that you can use Misdirection or Tricks of the Trade on your non-tank raid mates.
5. This doesn’t either mean that you can tank like poo. (I went over aggro on Hodir tonight during after Flash Freeze, when I was freeing NPC’s. The only thing that could’ve happened was my poison ticking on the boss, and poison cannot out DPS an active tank. No way. And no, he wasn’t frozen.)
