Aguilar’s parents reached out to Senator Rubio to help two of Christian’s aunts get humanitarian travel visas to the U.S. According to the Senator’s office, his staff reached out to the State Department and the Embassy in Bogota to help obtain the visa.

Rubio’s office said the State Department and the embassy in Bogota were willing to help the family during this time. Rubio said he was then informed the visa applications were denied by the embassy in Colombia.

According to CBS4 news partner the Miami Herald, the visas were denied on the grounds that the women failed to present strong enough ties to Colombia.

“This is outrageous. We should be doing everything we can to help this family during this difficult time,” Rubio’s office said in a statement. “It’s unimaginable that immigration authorities would deny these two relatives who are abiding by all our laws the chance to come assist their family.”

First off a point I must put across, I don’t know if it’s just me or if anyone else feels the same way about the name of this app, every time I look at the array of apps on my apple device I don’t want to be reminded of a felines furry love stick, it’s not right.

This is my first non game review as this app is based on photo editing.. I say photo editing, I really mean they provide stickers for you to place over a photograph with very disappointing results, here’s the uk’s favourite morning talk show host as a zombified horse:

This piece of crap is out to rob you and take advantage of the people that thought the standard free app was great, which to be fair, it was much better than this.

Verdict – Download his free one and avoid this like a chlamydia ridden hooker.

Can the word Jew/Jewish apply simply to religion? When you hear Jewish jokes, when you hear someone describe another as the ‘Jewish fellow’, is it just to do with religion? Jokes about Jews are centred on some derogatory characteristic or another which is why they are deemed racist. They are not perceived as anti-religionist but racially offensive, i.e.  Jew/Jewish in this case falls under the category of race.

Indeed, the identity of the Jew revolves around Judaism, yet being a Jew does not necessarily mean one devoutly follows the Law of Moses. For this reason, social discourse introduced the epithet “an observant Jew” and a “non-observant Jew”—those who follow and those who do not follow the Judaic Law. The Jews are a nation, an ethno-religious group united by ancestral history and religion. One cannot ignore the fact that Jews are unified not by religion alone, but also by their ancestral roots, shared history, culture and language (Hebrew is one of the ancient languages though it was modernised in the late 19^th century by Eliezer Ben-Yehuda. However, even in its ancient form Hebrew maintained its cultural relevance to the Jews, who perceived it as the tongue of their mothers and fathers from previous and long past generations as well as the language of worship). If you ask a Jew what unites him/her with other Jews? What influences his/her feelings of identification and sympathy with another Jew? the answer, probably, would not be simply religion but would include other factors such as language, literature (Mishna, Tulmud, Tora) and history. The answer to this question would also include the notion that what forces the individual to feel part of any minority group is none other than the perception of the host-country, which fails to perceive the Other as part of mainstream society.

The social and cultural indicators that help unite the Jews also assisted others, outside the Jewish group, to define the Jews as Others. In nineteenth-century Britain, Jews were perceived simply as Jews, regardless whether they arrived from Russia, Spain, Portugal or Poland. What we find in the literature of the period is that Jews were generally stereotyped according to the popular perception, which emphasised derogatory physical attributes and a lisping tongue. The reader, in nineteenth-century Britain, learned that the epithet ‘Jew’ referred to someone with a hooked-nose, dark hair, olive skin; someone who could not speak the English language properly; a trader who set his heart on manipulating and deceiving his English customers; and of course a descendant of the line of Abraham. Hence, in many cases Judaism was perceived purely as another factor that contributed to the definition of a Jew.

Throughout history, many tried to integrate the host-society by stripping off the markers that differentiated them from the masses, i.e. dress, religion and customs. These efforts for acculturation among Jews gained force in the nineteenth century as part of their efforts to gain civil equality and legal recognition in Britain. David Cesarani’s The Jewish Chronicle and Anglo-Jewry, 1841-1991 is a helpful source to those interested in the transformation taking place in the Jewish community in England during the nineteenth century and the Jews’ efforts for social admittance. However, these efforts of cultural assimilation were futile as British society continued to label and define X or Y as Jews. The figure of Benjamin Disraeli is a good example. The British prime-minister was baptised to Anglicanism at the age of 12 (as his father, Isaac Disraeli, believed conversion would guarantee his son’s future well-being in Britain), yet many of his contemporaries still labelled him Jewish. Even today, Benjamin Disraeli is deemed as Britain’s first and only Jewish prime minister. Going back to the topic of this page, if one cannot strip-off his Jewishness simply by renouncing Judaism, how can we relate the word Jew simply to religion?

The definition of someone as Anglo-Jewish or Jewish-American does not obviously refer to an American/British citizen who follows the Law of Moses, but to someone who sees himself/herself as part of two culture(s). The same is true of the Anglo-Jewish writers in nineteenth century England―Charlotte Dacre, David Levi, Emma Lyon (Henry), Grace Aguilar, Hyman Hurwitz and Amy Levy. They saw themselves as Jews, based on their common history, way of life and practices as well as their faith. Yet they aspired to become British. These writers try to manipulate both their Jewish heritage and British culture in order to define their place in British society. Some adapted Hebrew tales and translated them to English for the benefit of Jewish and non-Jewish readers (Hurwitz); Others adopted the poetic muse of ancient lore to place herself within the poetic tradition forming amongst her peers at the period (Lyon); Some, like Levi and Aguilar, drew on the commonalities between Judaic and Christian traditions to help familiarise the Jews to the masses; Yet there were those who chose to criticise the Jews and their way of life in hope that this will pave their acceptance into mainstream society.

What we need to keep in mind is that these writers were living during a period when Jews did not enjoy equal civil and legal rights. The conditions of the Jews in Britain started to improve only after parliament passed the Catholic Emancipation act in 1829. Following this act, the restrictions that prevented Jews from trading within the borders of the City of London were lifted in 1831 and two years later the first Jew was called to the Bar. Jews were allowed to matriculate at Oxford and Cambridge only in the 1850s, the same decade which saw the first Jew―Lionel de Rothschild―take his seat in Parliament. Hence, the works of Anglo-Jewish writers during this decade should (I believe) be read as their observations about their social predicaments, as their attempts to reconcile between their ethnic identity and national loyalty, and also as their response to the negative and offensive stereotype of Jews as shylockian villains, which was the popular perception of Jews at the time.

Gainesville Police said Aguilar’s body has not been found. However, according to Officer Ben Tobias, “This is now a recovery mission.”

Police asked property owners, residential or business, who may have lime rock roads on their property in Gainesville, that were accessible to the general public to search those properties for any suspicious areas of ground that appear to have been disturbed.

Aguilar, 18, was last seen Thursday Sept. 20th at a Best Buy store in Gainesville, police said. He was with Pedro Bravo, also 18, who faces a third-degree felony charge of depriving a victim of medical treatment. Bravo was arrested Monday and was being held on $100,000 bond.

Bravo told police that he and Aguilar got into a fight the day he disappeared. After several different versions of what happened, Bravo finally told detectives he beat Christian up and left him in a parking lot in northwestern Gainesville.

It was later discovered that Bravo bought a small shovel and a roll of duct tape several days before Christian’s disappearance, according to Gainesville Police.

Bravo’s roommate, Erik Skipper, said police searched their room for clues after Aguilar’s disappearance. Last Thursday, Skipper said he saw Bravo briefly before he left to meet up with Aguilar.

“I was eating lunch, again, I only ever say two things to him a day, that’s ‘Hello’ and ‘Good- bye’ and he was just walking out and said ‘Good bye,” recalled Skipper.

Bravo reportedly told investigators he bought the shovel and duct tape to fix his car after an accident, but Skipper said his car had two flats tires and a dent on Monday.

“He said he had hit a curb and it would have to have been a pretty big curb because the dent was massive,” said Skipper.

“But nothing you would use duct tape to repair,” asked CBS4 reporter Ted Scouten.

“Certainly not, nor a shovel,” said Skipper who added that Bravo’s story changed after a while. “He said he hit, it was a curb, but then he also threw in a wall and there was a ditch involved, this was Monday.”

Investigators have not found the tape or shovel.

Gainesville Police released pictures of Bravo’s 2004 Chevy Blazer that showed a different front right front wheel and tire from the rest of the vehicle. Police hoped the pictures were unique enough that someone might have remembered seeing it sometime between 3pm Thursday Sept. 20th and 8:00 a.m. Friday Sept. 21st.

That’s the window Gainesville Police haven’t been able to account for Aguilar.

Originally police speculated that the two got into a fight over Erika Friman, Aguilar’s girlfriend who Bravo dated in the past. Carlos Aguilar doesn’t buy that.

“We know that we cannot believe him. He’s been pulling the bluff, saying it was something regarding a relationship, or something regarding a woman. That’s not true,” said Aguilar’s father, Carlos. “This is something more like jealousy. He knows that my son was living the dream he wanted himself and was not able to achieve.”

All three graduated from Doral Academy. Aguilar, who was studying biomedical engineering and Friman were freshman at the University of Florida. Bravo was a freshman at Santa Fe College in Gainesville.

More than 200 law enforcement officers have assisted in the search for Aguilar including members of the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue K9 Search and Rescue team and members of the Doral, Sweetwater and West Palm Beach police forces. Sweetwater Police, along with West Palm Beach Police, brought bloodhounds and cadaver dogs.

Pedro Bravo is expected to appear in bond court at 9 a.m. Saturday.

The Cage is back and this time around we’re featuring fighter Mario Aguilar from Ecorse, Michigan!  Check out our recent Q & A with Mario Aguilar as we talked to him about what it’s like being a fighter and what his advice is to people out there interested in being a fighter!(T – Tyler and M – Mario)

T: When did you first become interested in becoming a fighter?

M: When I was 7 years old and I saw the movie Bloodsport for the first time.

T: What was one of your favorite fights you fought at and why?

M: Hands down I’d say WXC’s Island Rumble. Best fight atmosphere in my opinion! 

T: Who is your favorite opponent to fight?

M: I’d have to say Matthew “The Bolt” Holt. We’ve fought twice. The first time we fought we went to round 3 and he won via gnp. The second fight was a 3 round war that was called a draw. I can’t even call that fight but damn was it fun!

T: When is your next fight?

M: Nothing set yet, but I’m shooting for March!

T: What is your advice to people out there who are interested in making a career out of fighting?

M: My advice is stay consistent and never give up, Persistence is the biggest key!

T: What does your daily workout schedule look like?

M: well basically 8 hours every 2 days of whatever my sensei (Master Dimitri Paul) tells me to do. Its always different and intense.

T: What is your typical every-day meals look like?

M: lol my diet is horrible. Burgers tacos etc. I should be fat I’m ashamed to say. MMA keeps me thin.

T: What do you usually do to prepare for your fights?

M:  I try to put myself in a type of trance. The same kind of trance you would go into if you were drawing a picture or playing a instrument. I’ve learned that only when your in the self exspressive state of mind can you fight at your peak potential.

T: Where would you like to fight at?

M: I’d like to fight in a cage on a navy aircraft carrier…sounds fun.

T: If you could fight anybody who would you like to fight?

M: And as of right now I think it would be awesome to be able to one day fight Jose Aldo.
