Hypocrisy Meter from theblogprof.

Ahmad Ismail recently made some deragatory remarks aimed at the Chinese population of Malaysia. He called them pendatang (immigrants or squatters) in reference to the alleged status of Chinese as latecomers to Malaysia.

Despite being chided and even suspended from UMNO for 3 years, he refuses to apologize – he claims that he is not in the wrong.

As a direct result of this, Sin Chew reporter Tan Hoon Cheng was arrested under the ISA simply for reporting on what Ahmad Ismail said. She was recently released, while Ahmad Ismail wasn’t so much as issued a stern warning.

Well, here I present to you an argument that shows up Ahmad Ismail as a hypocritical pendatang himself!

The following is an excellent article, translated in full from Kuda Ranggi (Syed Imran)‘s original post in Malay, ‘Antara pendatang dan penumpang’.

————————–

Antara pendatang dan penumpang
(Between immigrants and squatters)

At first, I was reluctant to comment on the hoo-hah that resulted from the statements made by the UMNO division head of Bukit Bendera, Penang named Ahmad bin Ismail. Whether what he said about Malaysian of Chinese descent is true or false is not the question, because the issue is already spreading and the situation flaring up.

Unless the issue is addressed carefully, conscientiously and wisely, it can be exploited by those who wish to see this nation crumble, as well as by foreign powers. In this era of the borderless world and instantaneous international coverage via electronic media, whatever happens within a nation cannot be hidden or denied.

The main issue that was brought up by Ahmad Ismail involves the question of ‘squatting’; that is, that Malaysians of Chinese descent are squatters in this nation. He later clarified that this refers to the pre-Merdeka (pre-Malayan Independence) era. Nevertheless, the sensitivities of Chinese Malaysians were offended.

I do not know Ahmad Ismail personally, but I am quite close to Allahyarham, his brother Abdul Rahim Ismail, owner of the Rahim Construction Company which was once quite renown as the best Bumiputra-owned construction firm in Penang. I do not know what has happened with the company since Abdul Rahim passed away.

Personally, I (Syed Imran) disagree with what Ahmad Ismail claims for several reasons.

To me, almost 90 percent of Malaysians, especially those in the Peninsular, are immigrants and all of us are actually squatting on God’s land. We are not permanent owners, but merely squatting.

As an example, I myself am descended from immigrants who squatted on this blessed land. My grandparents on my father’s side immigrated from Mecca (in Saudi Arabia) and Brunei, whereas my maternal grandparents came from Hadhramut in Yemen. We are immigrants and squatters just like almost all of this nation’s citizens, especially those in Penang.

As for Ahmad Ismail, he too comes from an immigrant family and is squatting in this nation. Ahmad Ismail cannot deny the fact that his grandparents are immigrants from India who came in search of a better, more comfortable life in this blessed land.

Prime Minister Abdullah bin Ahmad is also included in the same category. His maternal grandfather was an immigrant from the Guangdong province in China. To cut a long story short, Pak Lah’s grandfather and Allahyarhamah Kailan’s father known as Hassan Salleh or Hah Su Chiang was an immigrant. He immigrated to Malaya from Guangdong (Kwangtung) in the mid 19th-century and settled in Bayan Lepas as a rubber planter, paddy farmer and later a diamond trader.

Deputy Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak also comes from an immigrant family, that is from Sulawesi in Indonesia, or to be simply he is a Bugis. Meanwhile, Hishamuddin Hussein cannot deny from his Turkish bloodline.

The grandparents of former PM Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad are also immigrants from Kerala, India while Almarhum Tunku Abul Rahman’s mother originated from Siam (Thailand).

Even the Malay Sultanate of Malacca was founded by an immigrant from Sumatra (in Indonesia) named Parameswara, a prince or noble of the Hindu religion.

In the history of the Malay sultanates, we find that some were founded by immigrants from Bugis and others by immigrants from Hadhramut (in Yemen) and Minangkabau (in Indonesia).

Almost all Malays here originated from outside Malaya, but are recognized as being of ‘Malay ethnicity’ by the Federal Constitution. We are ‘Malays according to Constitutional definition’, that is of the religion of Islam, practising Malay customs and speaking the Malay language. Unfortunately, the Malay language was killed by the Malay people themselves (UMNO) when it was renamed ‘Bahasa Malaysia’ (Malaysian language).

Thus Arabs like Syed Hamid Albar and myself, Acehnese like Sanusi Junid, Indians like Kader Sheikh Fadzir and Nor Mohamed Yakcop, Bugis like Najib, Minangkabau like Rais Yatim, Javanese like Mohamad Rahmat and others who originate from Madura (Indonesia), Boyan (Bawean in Indonesia), Siam, Burma, Yunnan (China) and the southern Phillipines are recognized as ‘Malay’ with little hassle.

They are accepted as Malay people regardless of whether they speak Malay in the home or not, for example the Arab-speaking Arab, the Javanese-speaking Javanese, the Minangkabau-speaking Minangkabau and the Tamil-speaking Mamak (Indian Muslim).

The aforementioned languages are not Malay languages, and if judged from the viewpoint of the Federal Constitution, their speakers cannot be accepted or recognized as part of the Malay race. Nevertheless, due to political factors and concerns, they are all accepted as Malays and Bumiputras.

Therefore, it is unfair to point fingers at the Chinese who are immigrants just the same as Arabs, Indians, Acehnese, Minangkabau, Batak, Mandailing, Javanese, Madurese and Bugis are squatters in this country. We cannot deny that a large number of the ancestors of the Chinese immigrated to this country during the time of the Malay Sultanate of Malacca and the Malay sultanates of Kedah, Terengganu and Kelantan when Francis Light conned the Sultan of Kedah into giving him Penang Island in 1786.

We are immigrants who live squatting in this country. The groups which truly can be recognized as indigenous or ‘bumiputra’ are those we know as Negrito, Jakun, Semang, Jahut, Orang Laut, Orang Darat, Senoi and the other Orang Asli groups who still live in these lands.

We must not forget the contributions and sacrifices of all races and sub-races in developing Malaysia, be it in economy, society, security and most important of all, alliance and unity. We all pay taxes and do so without regard to race or descent, whether immigrant or squatter.

We are all Malaysians.

———————————-

Ok… I know its a little late for me to post this post but better late than never.

Ahmad caused a stir when he called the Chinese folk in Malaysia ‘immigrants’. Lets just think about that immigrant thing for a sec. Aren’t all of us descendants of immigrants or immigrants ourselves? No one should differentiate the status and just know each other as a fellow Malaysian.

Our ancestors travelled the globe to seek a place called home. Sometimes this travelling is not by choice. They left their motherland to seek better fortunes or because of war. There could be other issues and circumstance involved into why and reason of their travels.

I myself am at least a 3rd generation Malaysian from my knowledge. So do I come under Ahmad’s category of immigrant since I am born here and so were my parents and grandparents. Beyond my grandparents, I have no idea about my heritage and family history coz of the lack of proper documentation.

I got some information or hear-say that Anwar will make those who are 3rd generation born Malaysians to be Bumiputera. So does that mean I qualify? It’d be swell if i do. I get all the benefits and better myself. Most Bumi do not appreciate their benefits. But lets look at some of the famous figures in Malaysia to see if they themselves qualify.

Firstly, lets look at Tun Dr Mahathir’s. We all know he’s a Mamak. The truth of the matter is his father was an immigrant from Kerala, South india. He doesn’t speak Malay but Malayalam (an Indian dialect/language).

Secondly, we look at the ‘great’ ‘Mr Clean’ PM Lah. He’s only 2nd generation and he’s not purely Malay. How does that make him a Bumi? His grandfather, Ha Su-Chiang or Hassan, is a Chinese Muslim who immigrated from a town called Sanya in the Hainan Province of South China. That’s why he looks extremely fair for a so-called Malay or Bumi.

How about Syed Hamid Albar? Where is he from really or who is he really? An immigrant or a real Malay/Bumi? Syed Hamid Albar’s genealogy writes that his father is of Hadhrami Arab descent. Another son of an immigrant.

Then we have Khir Toyo who is another son of an immigrant. His father, Joyo Erodikromo, is an Indonesian who migrated from the island of Java. Same club as Dr M.

Then lastly we have the ingrate Ahmad Ismail. This bugger himself is an IMMIGRANT. He was NOT born HERE IN MALAYSIA. He like Khir Toyo’s father is Indonesian. He came from Sumatra. Which makes him less of a Bumi and Malaysian. The least of all the whole lot. Does he have some identity issues? Maybe.

In review of the whole lot against me, I am more Bumiputera than them for the reason that my family has been here longer. Did it occur to anyone that these self-proclaiming ‘citizens’ probably have an ego issue? They need to claim something to make themselves feel better. Idiots…

Now lets have a lookee at history here, Hang Tuah was a Chinese. This effort my the gov to prove that Hang Tuah and Hang Jebat was Malay really backfired into their face BIG TIME!! So now, because of this proof, they have decided to omit them from the history books. Idiots… I have known this for a time but never sought to really rub it into any Malay or Bumi’s face. What for? We don’t need to go around proving who was here first. That’s for childish inadequate ppl.

Researchers also found that there was a grave which was 900 years old belonging to a non-Malay. This ancient grave houses the remains of a CHINESE! This makes it older than their coveted Batu Bersurat. (This info I got from Jem.) What they gonna do to this grave? Deface it? Ask JKR to build a road over it to cover it up?

Are they playing this race card to say that only Muslims can be Bumi and a real ‘citizen’? Or are they making known that the colour of one’s skin matters more than birthright?

We Chinese are all over the globe and just live on like normal. Don’t ask for much but a place to seek our fortunes and have family. Malaysia is a melting pot of different backgrounds, races, etc but what’s missing in this pot is Peace and Justice. Not to also mention Unity.

So who’s the real immigrant here? The only real Bumiputera’s are perhaps the Orang Asli BUT their ancestors were nomadic also before settling in somewhere. Think about it…

By the time you read this, you’d probably have heard the news. Three people have been arrested

By the time you read this, you’d probably have heard the news. Three people have been arrested under the Internal Security Act (ISA); prominent blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin, DAP Parliamentarian and Selangor exco YB Terasa Kok and Sin Chew daily reporter Tan Hoon Cheng, the person who first reported Mr. Ahmad Ismail’s alleged racist remarks.

These arrrests make no sense at all. RPK has constantly been a thorn in the government’s side, by isn’t he already charged under the Sedition Act? Is he a national security threat? Yes, his posts are reckless and needs to be taken with a pinch of salt, but hardly something that threatens national security. Don’t we have enough laws to deal with such people?

Why is YB Terasa Kok held under ISA? Is it because of the ‘azan’ issue, that YB Teresa supposedly lead a petition to silence the call to prayers in a mosque in Damansara? Yet this issue has been explained by YB Teresa in detail in her blog, that she never did such a thing. In fact, yesterday PAS MP YB Siti Mariah of Kota Raja made a police report against former Selangor MB Mr. Khir Toyo for creating racial tensions by disseminating false stories about the ‘azan’ issue. Also, the keepers of the said Damansara mosque has lodged a police report also against Mr. Khir for slander and attempting to create racial tensions amongst the denizens. Should this case be investigated first by the police? What happened to due process of the law?

And lastly, why in the world is the reporter detained under the ISA? All she did was report what Mr. Ahmad said. By suspending Mr. Ahmad, isn’t UMNO saying that yes, he should have apologized, but he did not? Are they now saying that the reporter is wrong in her reporting? Why suspend Mr. Ahmad? Why did Mr. Najib apologize if it was misquoted? Is there not a police investigation on the matter?

And if these three ‘deserve’ to be held under the ISA, why is Mr. Ahmad and his Penang UMNO cohorts, who are clearly provoking racial tension, still walking free?

I have stated it once and I’ll state it again: the ISA has no place in Malaysia. It is inhumane, it is unconstitutional, it is draconian and it should be abolished. If there is one thing I learnt in law school, it is that all citizens of a democratic country has the right to a fair trial. Detention without trial goes against everything that is sacrosanct in a democracy.

I can only see one reason for the government’s ISA fiesta: fear. This is the backlash that many have been predicting. This is the Operasi Lalang part II that many have anticipated. Those that hold power will do all in their power to keep onto power. Whether Mr. Anwar’s ‘September 16′ takeover plan materialize or not, this clearly shows that the government is rattled. For every action, there is a reaction. This is Barisan Nasional’s reaction.

At this point in time, everyone needs to be patient. We must not play onto their hands. We must not allow them to succeed. Do not give them a cause to declare emergency. We must be patient in facing such trying times.

Let us pray that our country be delivered from those who seek to destroy it.

UPDATES on ISA arrests at Susan Loone.

So let me get this straight…

Utusan Malaysia publishes a hearsay report accusing Teresa Kok of inflammatory conduct. Teresa Kok is arrested under the ISA on the basis of that insinuation.

Sin Chew publishes a well documented report of how Ahmad Ismail uttered inflammatory remarks in public. Sin Chew’s reporter is arrested under the ISA.

And Ahmad Ismail only gets three years… Of being excluded from UMNO.

Can it get any more blatantly double-standard than this????!!!!

For reporting about Ahmad Ismail’s racism which merely got him suspended from UMNO for 3 years.

——————————

The Ahmad Ismail Sketch

An arrogant-looking man is standing on a street corner by a political party’s banner, shouting his message at passers-by.

Arrogant Looking Man: Chinese are squatters! No equal rights for these pendatang! We will push the Chinese, push them, push them!!!

Reporter Lady who passes by is shocked by his outburst, and quickly goes into a nearby police station.

Reporter Lady: Excuse me, officer. I’d like to report an incident of Hate Speech.

Officer #1: Ya ke? Serious ni! Err, what did this Hate Speech sound like, madam?

Reporter Lady: Well, it was about the Chinese being squatters, and ‘push the Chinese’, and…

Officer #1 looks shocked.

Officer #1: Stop right there! I’m sorry madam, but I will have to arrest you for Hate Speech.

Reporter Lady: Wh-what?! But I’m not giving any Hate Speech!

Officer #1: Don’t take me for a fool, madam. You were saying it right here in front of me!

Reporter Lady: But, but… I’m just telling you what a man out on street was saying! He was the one giving the Hate Speech!

Officer #1: Well now, just because someone is a Hate Speecher, doesn’t mean that you have to go and get all full of Hate Speech yourself!

Reporter Lady: But I’m not full of Hate Speech!

Officer #1: Tell that to the judge!

Officer #1 handcuffs the Reporter Lady..

Another officer walks by.

Officer #2: Good morning. What’s all this noise about? Can’t even have a teh tarik in peace…

Officer #1: This woman has been uttering Hate Speech. Terrible!

Officer #2: Hate Speech! Has this nation gone mad! To discriminate against your fellow Malaysians on the basis of ethnicity or religion. Shameful!

Officer #1: Actually, she was saying hateful things about the Chinese.

Reporter Lady: I was not!

Officer #1: Madam, please! No more Hate Mongering out of you.

Officer #2: Well, what did she say about the Chinese?

Officer #1: Oh, she was talking about ‘push the Chinese squatters’ and so on…

Officer #2 looks at Officer #1 in shock.

Officer #2: I’m afraid I’m going to have to arrest you for Hate Speech, sir!

Officer #1: Me? Hate Speech? Where got!?

Pendatang!

Banyak cantik!

Dulu tanah bangsa aku luas, seluas mata memandang. Semua bangsa aku punya. Tetapi sedikit demi sedikit, mereka datang.

Jangan buat kami marah! Jangan main api!

From the Star:

Wanita Gerakan urges PM to sack Ahmad

KUALA LUMPUR: Wanita Gerakan has urged Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi to sack Bukit Bendera Umno division chief Datuk Ahmad Ismail from the party immediately.

The party wing also asked for Ahmad to be charged under the Internal Security Act (ISA) for playing up racial sentiments and threatening national security, said chief Datuk Tan Lian Hoe.

She condemned the action of Ahmad’s supporters who tore up the photo of Gerakan acting president Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon, saying it brought shame to Ahmad and the Barisan Nasional.

“It is rude for not respecting Barisan leaders. We regret his action and we are very upset with his irresponsible, shameful and overboard action,” she said.

A futile call, if you ask me. I have a sneaky suspicion that UMNO leaders are immune from the ISA.

Regardless, I wholeheartedly agree with Mr. Malik Imtiar in his blog: Mr. Ahmad Ismail should NOT be held under the ISA.

Arrest Mr. Ahmad. Charge him with the relevant laws. Put him away in prison. Do whatever the law allows the authorities to do. Just do not use the ISA.

As much as I am disgusted at the actions of Mr. Ahmad and his Penang UMNO cohorts, we must be consistent in our principles.

ISA is an obsolete, draconian law that has no place in Malaysia. ISA should be abolished. No Malaysian should ever be detained without trial, regardless of whether they are alleged terrorists, racists, members of illegal organizations or public enemy number one. Every person has a right to a fair trial.

No ISA for Ahmad Ismail.

Rahmah Ghazali (Malaysiakini)

Gerakan Wanita today issued a strong call for Bukit Bendera Umno division chief Ahmad Ismail to be sacked from his party for his spate of racist rants.

Women’s wing chief Tan Lian Hoe said Umno president Abdullah Ahmad Badawi should have Ahmad detained under the Internal Security Act (ISA) for playing up racial issues.

She said Ahmad’s ongoing attacks against the Chinese community are a threat to national security and expressed fears that this could lead to racial riots, similar to those of May 13, 1969.

Gerakan members, she said, are disappointed and angry with the actions of certain supporters of Ahmad. Yesterday, they had torn a photo of Gerakan acting president Koh Tsu Koon at the Penang Umno headquarters.

“How would Umno members nationwide react if a photo of their president was torn in that manner?” she asked.

If there are personal conflicts between Koh and Ahmad, the matter should be resolved behind closed doors and “not openly in front of the press”, she said.

“We should also not compromise with a person who is irresponsible and disrespectful, and (who is) trying to disrupt harmony in this country.”

Tan made her comments at a hastily-arranged press conference this morning at Gerakan headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.

Yesterday Ahmad continued his verbal assault against Koh by blaming him for playing up the issue, and calling for Barisan Nasional to kick Gerakan out of the ruling coalition.

Ahmad also issued a warning to the Chinese community against raising issues about Malays.

pak lah abdullah ahmad badawi putrajaya malaysiaIn an immediate reaction, Abdullah had lashed out at Ahmad last night, summoning him for an urgent meeting in Putrajaya this afternoon.

Asked if Gerakan’s call to detain Ahmad under the ISA contradicts the party’s firm stance against the draconian law, Tan hesitantly replied that it could still be used to safeguard national security.

“In order to ease the strain among the grassroots, the ISA is still relevant for the time being,” said Tan, adding that the prime minister should take stern action against Ahmad.

Visible anger

Surrounded by Gerakan committee members during the press conference, Tan said that Ahmad’s alleged racial slurs could have an impact in other quarters.

“If he stops the nonsense – the racist remarks – immediately, surely we will not press for (use of the) ISA. If he does, I’m sure not only Gerakan, (but also) the NGOs and other parties will be affected,” said Tan.

She further criticised Penang Umno for standing by Ahmad despite his allegedly racist remarks.

“Their support is inappropriate as this only fans the anger of other races, although we have a good relationship with other Umno divisions,” said Tan.

gerakan wanita pc on ahmad ismail bukit bendera koh tsu koon tear down photo stunt 090908 pcDespite visible anger among Gerakan Wanita members during the 15-minute press conference, Tan said the party would accept an apology from Ahmad if he is sincere about it.

“If he is honest (enough) to apologise, then we would accept it. However, we will not force him to apologise because that would not (demonstrate) his sincerity.”

Asked if this matter would in any way influence Gerakan to pull out of BN, Tan replied “For now, that is out of the question, but we will make our decision later.”

Last night, at an emergency meeting, the Gerakan Penang liaison committee decided to sever ties with Umno Penang. However, the minority Chinese community was advised not to organise protests over the matter.

Not another one, Ahmad Ismail. Sigh. I wonder how much more dangerously disturbing remarks we have to endure coming out from this guy’s mouth. Sometimes being too passionate of own race also is not the cleverest thing to do especially when we are living in a country where we embrace multiracial cultures and practices, and multi religious beliefs. No man is an Island. Even Penang itself doesn’t consist of a single race, majority are Chinese dwellers and there are Malays and Indians too.

True UMNO is a party of Malay race, a party that is build to defend Malay rights from British Malayan Union. But that doesn’t give a license to any UMNO members to hurt the feelings of non-Malays. I am a Malay myself, and I believe Malaysia will not be Malaysia if we Malaysians do not observe and practice racial harmony and respect toward each others cultures and religious beliefs.

Ahmad, I know you are man of your words. But I am leaving you with this peribahasa from our nenek moyang, “Kerana mulut badan binasa”. I am a Malay and I DISAGREE with you, Ahmad Ismail.

Owh, to the guy who tore Tan Sri Koh’s picture, if ever I see your picture hanged on the wall, I’ll take it down and tear it into half too. Owh anyway, where on earth can i find that?

I strongly urge Pak Lah to take stern actions on both, well I just think that they need to be disciplined after this latest press statement.

Semestinya,”

And, I am happy that our Police and Armed Forces are forever ready to combat our ‘musuh dalam selimut’.

Armed Forces chief General Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Zainal has proposed that the Government take stern action against those who stoke racial sentiments.

He said racial issues should not be raised as it could create chaos and disorder.”

“Racial issues are the most feared by security forces as they could lead to chaos. They are a security threat,” he said at the Wanita Umno Hari Raya contribution presentation to the Armed Forces and the police at the Putra World Trade Centre here on Tuesday.

Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ismail Omar said street politics is under control and peace is upheld.

He added that the police force is in a state of readiness to face such occurrences.

“We are ready to work day and night, rain or shine, without food and drink to ward off such threats,” he said.

From a photographer’s view point, this is a great photo! Capturing so much of the emotion and anger. Capturing the heat of the moment. Shooting from below, just made the subject looked more intimidating and overpowering. Composition was perfect, having included the party logo was invaluable, as it give a context to the picture; this is not about a man tearing a photograph, this is about an UMNO supporter tearing a photograph of a Barisan National Leader. There is so much science behind the arts of photography…

Seeing this picture as a student of the arts of mindfulness (Vipassanā), I am grateful that I had the chance to learn this arts. Being able to watch anger arising (in some instances) means that I had a chance to manage my anger.

As a 4th/5th generation “pendatang”. I have nothing wise to contribute to this mess.

For once, I actually kinda like something they did! I scarcely believe it myself! When I read it in

For once, I actually kinda like something they did! I scarcely believe it myself!

When I read it in Malaysiakini, I was smiling to myself like a madman. But I couldn’t help it. It was too entertaining. Go on and read it here. It happened at a press conference organized by the Penang <del datetime="00">Nazi Party Branch</del> UMNO for their Dear Leader Ahmad Ismail. They ripped Koh Tsu Koon a new @$$hole before they actually physically ripped his portrait apart. I initially was wondering why they carried a portrait of him around but then realized it was one of those portraits government offices hang up. You know, portraits of the PM and CM, just in case you forgot how ugly they looked.

I liked what Ahmad Ismail said about Koh. He said that he’s worked with him for 18 years and knows that he is a “good actor” and a “great liar” who has lost the support of the Chinese community and is now trying to salvage his reputation.

He said it right, you know. I loathe Koh Tsu Koon. While he was holding the CM’s post, he did absolutely nothing for the non-Malays in Penang. Instead, he shamelessly brown-nosed UMNO leaders; in fact, he was such a good brown-noser that it was difficult to tell where UMNO’s ass ended and Koh Tsu Koon’s head began. He sold the non-Malays down the river because it was politically convenient for him to do that. He knew that he was CM not because the people of Penang loved him, but because he was UMNO’s lapdog. And he played his role as boot-licker to the hilt. No where could we expect to find such an expert and professional ass-kisser as dear EX-chief minister Koh <del datetime="00">Suck </del>Tsu Koon.

Everytime UMNO barked, Koh jumped and obeyed. Like how the Emperors of old had eunuchs, so UMNO had their Koh Tsu Koon. Eunuch Koh was nothing but a puppet for UMNO. They made it seem that Penang had a Chinese CM but it was as clear as day that they were the ones calling the shots. Koh himself just played along. As long as he could stick his butt in the seat of the Penang CM, he was happy to sacrifice his <del datetime="00">testicles </del>principles and <del datetime="00">dick </del>dignity. You can forget about regaining the trust of the non-Malays, you hypocritical spineless traitor.

You can kiss your political future good-bye. I hope you can find something to do in your spare time, Mr. Koh, since I foresee you having plenty of it in the not-too-distant future. Maybe you should take up singing as a castrato… you certainly have the talent!

.
.
.
.
Addendum: I must state that I do not agree (in fact, I detest) all of Ahmad Ismail’s other statements. It’s only when it comes to Koh Tsu Koon that we are in agreement ;-p

When I read this, it sent chills down my spine. From Malaysiakini: Don’t be like American Jews

When I read this, it sent chills down my spine.

From Malaysiakini:

Don’t be like American Jews, Chinese told

Penang Umno leader Ahmad Ismail, the man at the centre of the ‘racial slur’ controversy, warned Chinese Malaysians not to mimic American Jews who not only seek to control the country’s economy but also its political power.

MCPX

In an explosive 50-minute press conference, Ahmad who claimed time and again that he was not a racist, vowed that he would not apologise for his remarks which sparked the controversy.

“While it is not difficult to say sorry – for the sake of my Malay dignity, I resolve not to apologise no matter what others may say. I am willing to take the risk (for not doing so),” he said in a 14-page statement.

The press conference, which was held at the Penang Umno headquarters this afternoon, ended with shouts of ‘Hidup Melayu’ from about 50 local party leaders who were there.

Soon after the event, former Penang Umno committee member Zainol Abidin Hashim, with the help from his colleagues pulled down the photo of Gerakan acting president Dr Koh Tsu Koon which adorned one of the walls in the party headquarters.

Koh’s picture frame, which sat next to the photos of the Penang governor and his wife, was subsequently smashed.

As the glass broke into pieces, Zainol removed Koh’s photo from the frame and tore it into half.

Koh, who is former Penang chief minister, has been trading barbs with Ahmad, the Bukit Bendera Umno division chief, over the issue.

In a hastily-organised press conference at 10.30pm, Koh announced that Penang Gerakan had decided to cut all ties with its counterpart effective immediately.

He said that he was disappointed in the “rude behaviour” of Umno leaders at their press conference.

Earlier, Ahmad told the minority Chinese not to go overboard in hurting the feelings of the Malays and Muslims.

“I want them to know, I want them to take this as a warning from the Malays. Malays and Muslims have been provoked many times. We have been patient because we want to maintain stability in the country,” he said.

“Remember! The patience of Malays and Muslims has its limits. Do not push us to the wall, where we will be forced to reject the Chinese for the sake of our survival.

“If what I say sounds too strong for BN, take this as a warning from the Malays and Muslims as this has nothing to do with Umno. Do not pressure Umno leaders until they are caught in a dilemma.”

He then sounded a dire warning to Koh and Gerakan.

“I want Koh Tsu Koon and Gerakan to take responsibility for whatever untoward incidents that could happen in this country of ours.”

Ahmad also called upon BN leaders to “kick Gerakan out” from the ruling coalition.

The Bukit Bendera Umno chief said that he was asked by Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi to hold “another press conference”.

Ahmad previously held a press conference last Friday in which he reiterated that he would not apologise for his remarks.

Abdullah (photo, right), who had earlier told the powerful local Umno leader to do so, was silent on the issue the next day when he met with Penang Umno leaders, including Ahmad.

Ahmad, who was backed by all 13 Umno divisions in Penang – Abdullah’s home state – thanked the prime minister for his “understanding”.

The controversy erupted after Ahmad had allegedly said that the “Chinese were immigrants squatting in this country” at a ceramah during the recent Permatang Pauh by-election campaign.

The speech caused Ahmad to come under heavy fire from Chinese-based political parties, particularly from Umno’s allies MCA and Gerakan over the past two weeks. A spate of police reports were also lodged against the Umno division leader.

Ahmad nevertheless argued that his remark was taken out of context by Chinese-language Sin Chew Daily as he was referring to historical events.

At the press conference, Ahmad also urged the different states to hold a gathering of the whole ummah (Muslim community).

“Let us not let it go to waste as the flames of anger among Malays and Muslims has reached new heights. Let us take embrace this anger and come together as Malays and Muslims throughout the land so that we can turn the voices of the Malays into one that will unite all Malays and Muslims into one single movement.”

In an immediate reaction, both Abdullah and Deputy Prime Minister Najib Razak are expected to meet Ahmad tomorrow. It is believed that action could be taken against the Umno leader.

My fellow Malaysians, the intentions of Mr. Ahmad and his cohorts are abundantly clear. They are trying to provoke and incite racial unrest.

Why else would they be likening the Chinese with American Jews? Why else would they pull of the publicity stunt of tearing down Mr. Koh Tsu Koon’s picture (and why is his picture still on the wall now?)? They have claimed that this is about the dignity of the Malays.

Yet I wonder, throughout this whole episode, when was Malay dignity ever threatened?

Let me try and recall, best I can, of what had occured.

A division of MCA or Gerakan in Penang first came out condemning Mr. Ahmad for allegedly saying his now infamous remarks. According to them, it was reported first reported in a Chinese newspaper.

After that, a flurry of Chinese based political parties such as the MCA, Gerakan and DAP lodged police reports over Mr. Ahmad’s alleged remarks. Many more demanded an apology from him.

Mr. Abdullah Badawi, our prime minister, then said that he will ask Mr. Ahmad not to do it again. Later, Mr. Najib, the deputy prime minister, apologized on behalf of UMNO for the alleged remarks.

Many felt that Mr. Najib did not have to apologize. It was Mr. Ahmad who said it, thus it is he who should apologize.

Anyways, the rest of it we all know.

My point is, I fail to see how this whole episode mencabar the Malays. No one demanded an apology from the Malays per se. In fact, no one said that what Mr. Ahmad said is reflective of the Malays as a whole.

Mr. Ahmad Ismail, this was your own personal problem. Do not drag your race into it. Do not attempt to look like a jaguh Melayu, because you are not.

And now you’re trying to create racial tensions with you other Penang UMNO warlords. What, the money tak masyuk now that you’re the opposition? Contracts hard to come by these days? So you pull of this publicity stunt, trying to drag Malaysians into a quagmire of racial conflict.

But no, Mr. Ahmad Ismail. No, Penang UMNO warlords.

We will not fall for your shameless stunt to hold onto power. We will hold strong. We will keep peace. We are Malaysians, Mr. Ahmad Ismail and Penang UMNO warlords, and we will remain Malaysians. Your attempts at scaring us with May 13 will not work, for we have banished those ghosts a long time ago. We will not let you destroy the fabric our nation.

We want to build a new Malaysia, and the likes of you have no place within it.

So begone, Ahmad Ismail and your Penang UMNO. Begone and don’t you DARE claim that you speak for the Malays because you do not speak for me nor do you speak for other Malays and Malaysians who want to build that new Malaysia.

Begone, you low class politicians.

Post taken from Malaysia Today here

Ah-Mad Ismail blames Koh for tensions

It was supposed to be a press conference for the Bukit Bendera Umno chief, Datuk Ahmad Ismail to diffuse the situation.

What happened instead after the press conference was his supporters tore up in anger a picture of former Penang Chief Minister Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon and engaged in a shouting match with reporters.

This happened after Ahmad, while defending his position, urged the Barisan Nasional leadership to expel Gerakan from the coalition.

His supporters also engaged in a shouting match with a reporter from an English language daily that reached its lowest point with death threats hurled at her.

Anjing Umno Dimarah Tuan-nya

GERAKAN – if you see this and don’t get a wee bit upset then all is lost in your so called party. No dignity or any back bone left only weak-links that were so comfortable sucking up to the tuan. Even a dog knows how to bite its owner when its kicked by his tuan. If you do nothing it only shows you are lower than a dog. There’s more dignity in leaving the Ketuanan Umno team than staying. At least you will still have a chance to regain your long lost true GERAKAN spirit before joining team with a racist tuan.
