Unser sechster und letzter Seetag an Bord war auch der Tag, den ich aus diesem Urlaub hätte streichen können…

Der Vormittag begann noch ganz prima mit Sonnenschein und akzeptablen Temperaturen. Zum ersten Mal auf dieser Reise wurde der Pool mit Wasser befüllt.

(Als er dann endlich voll war, waren allerdings dicke schwarze Wolken aufgezogen, die ebenfalls Wasser von oben mitbrachten…)

Die Kids vom Kids Club führten auf dem Pooldeck eine kleine Show auf der Bühne auf, wäre ganz nett gewesen, wenn nicht die wildgewordenen Eltern vor meiner Liege in furchtbarem ***-Dialekt (da ich niemanden diskriminieren will, blende ich die Herkunft mal aus die Welle gemacht hätten. Total nervig, trotz Freibier…

Ab Mittag begann es zu tröpfeln, bis es dann regnete schüttete wie aus Eimern, so dass niemand mehr wirklich in den Genuss kommen konnte, das Wasser in Pool oder Whirlpool zu nutzen. 

Tja, was macht man an so einem bescheidenen Tag? Man könnte in die Sauna gehen…
Das haben wir an diesem Tag zwar nicht gemacht, aber ich zeige euch an dieser Stelle mal die AIDA-Sauna von innen. Da war es gerade ganz leer, und wir hatten den Wellness-Bereich ganz für uns allein:

Abends sollte es dann das Farewell-Dinner geben, d.h. Abschiedsessen und kulinarische Highlights. Hummer war nur eine der angekündigten Besonderheiten, auf die ich mich besonders freute! Auch fast am Ende der Reise, waren die Buffets immer noch überwältigend, und da Essen zu meinen größten Hobbys zählt (leider), waren sie jedes Mal ein Plus des Tages.

Leider klingelte der Wecker nicht, d.h. unser nachmittägliches Zwischendurch-Schläfchen dauerte  bis 21 Uhr, und da wurde das Farewell-Diner gerade abgeräumt. Nix mit Hummer also für uns
Ich überlegte dann, gar nicht erst noch einmal aufzustehen, allerdings waren wir zur Poolparty verabredet, und ich wollte unbedingt noch die Lasershow sehen. Eine Lasershow hatte es zu Beginn der Reise schon einmal gegeben, die ich absolut toll fand, und da freute ich mich jetzt noch einmal drauf.

Aaaaber, als wir auf dem Pooldeck ankamen und ich sicherheitshalber mal nachfragte, wurde uns gesagt, dass die Show gerade vorbei sei…
Statt Hummer gab es also kalte Pizza, statt Lasershow und Poolparty eine höchst missgelaunte Anke, die direkt wieder zur Kabine zurück stapfte!
Nun ja, das war halt der einzige völlig missglückte Tag auf der AIDA, es kann halt nicht immer Friede-Freude-Eierkuchen-Stimmung sein! Im Nachhinein muss ich auch etwas schmunzeln, wenn ich mich daran erinnere, WIE wütend ich war. Normalerweise bringt mich nicht so schnell etwas aus der Ruhe, aber da – schon. Jetzt weiß ich schließlich immer noch nicht, wie Hummer schmeckt

So it’s been forever since I’ve posted again.  I promise I’m going to get better about this.  I swear.  Honestly.

Anyway, I’ve been doing a lot of soul-searching lately.  For those that care, I’m working on getting back into a four-year college for classes starting this upcoming spring semester.  While I have no idea what I’m planning on doing for the rest of my life, I’ve been working on at least getting some sort of an idea as to what that something might be.  The more I think about it, the more I want to dedicate my life to something I’m passionate about.  As this blog is tribute to, one of those things is gaming (and other nerdly pursuits).

I guess I’m bringing all of that up because said thoughts were only further solidified when I was doing what I usually do to unwind after work — spend some time with the great god StumbleUpon.  And what I came across was perhaps one of the most spectacular things of all time.  It was a blog (which then led me to a forum) dedicated to crafting around video games.  A lot of it was cross stitching.  And what do you suppose I discovered?

This.  Pattern.

Yes, you’re looking at that right.  That is a cross stitch pattern containing the sprite of every single first generation Pokemon using the game sprites via Fire Red and Leaf Green.  151 individual Pokemon span a canvas of aida 27 x 15 inches in area.  The full pattern, printed at 75% size, spans a massive poster-sized piece of paper which I can only approximate is about 50 inches long.  The pattern contains 104 separate thread colors and contains 115,200 stitches.  Yes, that’s right.  The stitches number in the hundred-thousands.

What some may call a monstrosity, I call a dream.  Cross stitching is something I’ve discovered carries an almost meditative effect for me.  And to find this amazing website with patterns like this hiding all over the place, I can only shiver in excitement.  What’s more is that I’ve begun the undertaking of this massive project.

Some further information on the website and creator of the pattern.  The website is known as Sprite Stitch, and their blog can now be linked to via my blogroll. (It is DEFINITELY worth checking out. Promise!)  A user well known on the site for his amazing pattern creations brought this crazy creation to life.  He goes by the name Servotron.  (He has also done some amazing Zelda cross stitchings, which can be found all over the Sprite Stitch forums.)

Thus far, I have printed my pattern, purchased my aida, about 1/10 of the total colors, and begun the stitching process.  I’m starting with Blastoise, and I’ll be working my way back and forth until I finish.  The going rate is supposedly about 10 months to complete this project, but I’m guessing it will take me longer.  I’ll post again with pictures of my startings soon.  (By soon, I mean when I get batteries for my camera. >.>)

Ibland undrar jag om det är alldeles för lätt att hitta felen med skolan – alla brister, alla problem.

Jag läste någonstans alldeles nyss om att det var bra att man lyfte problemen. Jaha.

Vad är det som är bra då? Ja, i skolan. Massor. När jag är ute och föreläser brukar vi till slut fylla en hel tavla med bra saker. Några saker är lärare, kompisar, maten, raster, ämnen. Listan kan bli lång. För när man börjar tänka efter finns alltid bra saker. Som idag, en kille som sade att han FAKTISKT tyckte matten var kul. Oj, de andra tittade på honom men han stod på sig.

Och det är så, inte förrän du uttrycker dig – inte förrän du öppet våga ta ståndpunkt – då har du gjort ett val. För då finns det andra som faktiskt kan hålla med om eller säga emot men du kan ändå stå för det du tycker och förklara varför. Visst, det finns de som inte behöver ropa ut till hela världen vad det tycker och gör ändå men för många är det viktigt att ha en ståndpunkt som andra vet om. En positiv ståndpunkt.

Ibland kan jag bli trött på att höra alla fel som finns i skolan.

Det är underbart att möta Alla ungar som faktiskt vill  någonting. Jag har i tolv år arbetat med att lyfta det positiva med skolan. Och det kan vara provokativt. Jäkligt provokativt. För folk går på knäna och så kommer jag och säger, vad är positivt?

Och då får du faktiskt gå till sig själv, varför du valde att jobba inom skolan.

För mig finns, hårddraget, två kategorier människor. De som ser problem, de som ser möjligheter. Jag vet vid det här laget att jag är någon som ser möjligheter. Och i skolan är det viktigt. Om du valt att arbeta i skolan och hela tiden hittar fel, då kanske du ska byta yrke. Ja, byt, för du har ingenting där att göra. Det skolan behöver är människor som ser möjligheter, inte problem.

You feelin’ me, team?

So team, the holidays are just around the corner, and for those of you who’re new here—‘sup Jess?—this is the time when we make something like all of our revenue. Revenue is just a fancy word for money, but you don’t have to worry about that. What you do have to think about is like “Yo, how am I going to sell this holiday season?”  and “Yo, how much of it am I going to sell?” You’ve all have seen The Wire, right? Sick show. So dope. So it’s like imagine you’re part of the Barksdale crew right? ‘Cept instead of slinging rock you’re moving like Norah Jones CDs. So if some cat rolls up to your corner and is all “Yo, you got that new Norah Jones CD?” play it cool like “Yeah man, disc’stight” And then like pull that classic move from the corner where you up-sell them the double disc with extra tracks, a bonus DVD, and fold-out poster. Or if someone’s buying a Titanic DVD, try and sell them the Diamond Edition that comes with all the rare Titanic pictures. Easy, right? It’s just about chilling out, and being attentive to the customer’s needs.

So basically, if you’re working an eight-hour shift, you need to be attentive to the customer’s needs 61.8 times, assuming that the average transaction is +/- $34.17. On that, it’d be ideal if we could boost the average transaction to somewhere in the $37 dollar range, but don’t sweat that right now. The key is vertical selling. Let’s say some guy comes in and he’s after like, whatever, the new MF Doom album. Hook him up, right? But don’t stop there. Try being like “Oh you like hip-hop and rap? Have you heard the new Fifty triple-disc Deluxe Edition package. It’s the shit.” But don’t actually swear. Obviously.

It’s important to be casual. But not too casual. I mean when people come into one of our 118 locations nationwide, they expect a relaxed, chilled-out and most importantly uniform corporate identity. We’re a record store, yeah? So people know that we’re not going to be impressed by them. But don’t be like a huge dick about it. Shoot more for Ethan Embry in Empire Records than Jack Black in High Fidelity. Whatever your angle, remember that basic algorithms of choice architecture dictate that you can pre-arrange a default outcome by presenting choices along certain organizational axes.

It sounds retarded, but it’s true.

Another thing to keep in mind is to be nice to the customer. That’s why people choose our chain. Sure, they could drive out to Wal-Mart to save a few bucks on the new Foo Fighters Greatest Hits comp. But they come here because they know we have the know-how. Because they know we’re all total music nerds. And they like that. And we like that.

But what’s the difference between a total music nerd and an employable music nerd? Anyone? Andy? Jamal? That’s right. An employable music nerds know how to close. Closing’s tricky. And apart from figuring out the shipping/receiving software, it’ll probably be the toughest part of your job. But let me break it down.

When a customer strolls in here, don’t think of them as a stranger. They’re not just dicking around. Except for maybe the schizo bro in the Labatt’s Blue hat who comes in every morning like the law of fucking gravity to pick up the same Peter Gabriel album, sob loudly and then leave, or the elementary kids who crash the place at lunch to play the free X-BOX demos and don’t buy shit. Apart from them, people are here because they want to buy. They need to buy. All you need to do is close it, yo.

There’s a few basic s strategies here that I’d like to see you guys floss out there. You can try the either/or route. Like make the only option either/or. Like “Oh you’re looking for the new Norah Jones CD? Do you want the basic, bare-bones disc at $14.99 or are you after the double disc with extra tracks, a bonus DVD, and fold-out poster for only $19.99?” Trickier to pull off is a move called “The Duke of Wellington Close” or as I like to call it, “The Duke.” Basically what you’re doing here is spinning negatives into positives, like “Yeah that Norah Jones double disc with extra tracks, a bonus DVD, and fold-out poster is five bucks more, but I mean these are tracks you won’t even find on the Internet.” In fact, anytime any target is sweating about price, just be all “true, but it’s ‘cos this shit ain’t even on the ‘Net” or something like that. But again, no cursing. You all know that, though. Right?

Another technique is to compliment them. Saying stuff like “Oh, dope kicks” or peeping someone’s tee and being all “Hey man, you like Shellac? Me too, man.” Once you’ve earned their trust with a bit of empty fawning, swoop in with more advanced moves, like the Sullivan Nod, or as I call it, “Da Sully.” All you have to do is, when you’re going through a list of products, subtly nod you’re head ten of fifteen degrees when you say the product you want them to buy, generally the most expensive or something listed in the System under 09CAM promo codes. This works a lot of the time, ‘cos you like get inside their brain all unconsciously and can totally make ‘em buy something they wouldn’t have thought of buying. It’s like total Frasier Crane shit. Yo, Meagan, write that down and e-mail it to me later. “The Crane Technique.” Mine.

I know this sounds like a lot of corporate shit, and a lot of it is. It’s just like the RM and the Divisional Manager are all “Yo Ryan, like we need you say this shit” and I’m like “Whatever” ‘cos I know you guys are the best. I know we got the best team in our division ‘cos you guys are all wicked cool and know like a shit-ton about music and CDs, and if any team can meet a projected quarterly gross of +$485,000, I know it’s you guys. Y’all are little, skinny-jean wearing Dave Winfields.

So yo, let’s all just chill out for a bit. There’s some pop, pizza and dipping sauce in the back. Do it up. You’ve earned it. Fifteen minutes then let’s get started on inventory. Batter up.

Desde que Carmen Machi abandonó la serie, no se sabía primero si seguiría en pie y segundo si sería capaz de volver con los ánimos renovados.

Parece ser que nuestros mejores presagios se están cumpliendo, ya que hoy mismo se han desvelado las que serán las tramas que guiarán las andanzas de los personajes de “Aída” en su séptima temporada.

La pareja que se encuadra como los personajes protagonistas, Luisma y Paz, seguirán juntos y no solo eso si que intentarán buscar un nuevo nidito de amor. Aunque no debería llamarlo así ya que la razón de ello es que no han podido hacer frente a los gastos hipotecarios y el banco se lo ha embargado. Pasaran temporadas en casa de los amigos del barrio como Macu y el Barajas.

Lorena, por su parte tendrá una trama destacada al ser seleccionada para participar en el concurso más televisivo de todos “Gran Hermano”. Parece que la mediana de los García tendrá la oportunidad de demostrar quién es frente a este concurso, y es que todo el barrio estará muy contento por su logro. Mercedes Mila hará un cameo también ella misma presentando el concurso.

No nos olvidamos de Fidel, que después de un tiempo en busca del amor, por fin lo encuentra en un novillero llamado Marcial. Pero las cosas se complicaran cuando se descubra que quierer prosperar en el mundo tan machista como es el de los toros y tendrá que ocultar su condición sexual para ello.

Por su parte Chema y Mauricio se disputaran el amor de Soraya. El beso que ésta le dio a Chema al final de la temporada podría predecir una inminente pareja, pero Chema no quiere hacer daño a su amigo. Y Mauricio seguirá intentando (sin éxito) que ella se fije en él. Aidita vivirá momento de desconcierto, estando en medio de todo.

Veremos lo que nos depara la séptima temporada de la serie, si siguen con las buenas riendas bajo el brazo o asistimos al final eminente de la misma: el tiempo lo dirá.

Una estrategia empleada en ventas para conseguir una respuesta favorable en el consumidor. Se trata en que el vendedor primero debe captar su Atención sobre el producto; crear Interés; estimular su Deseo y finalmente invitarlo a comprar.

A: ATENCIÓN. Esto es atraer la atención.
I: INTERÉS. Crear interés en el discurso.
D: DESEO. Alentar el deseo de aceptar el mensaje.
A: ACCIÓN. Hacer que el receptor del mensaje haga lo que se le sugiere.

Ahora por supuesto este concepto no queda fuera del marketing o mercadeo con vídeos.

Halifax – wir kommen!
Wir waren heute so früh wach, dass ich spontan den Einfall hatte, den Sonnenaufgang an Deck anzuschauen. Ruckzuck was über den Schlafanzug gezogen und aufs Deck 7 gespurtet.

Wir hatten nur ein paar Fotos lang Zeit, bis die Sonne aufgegangen war. Es war ein sehr schönes romantisches Morgenrot während wir auf Halifax zufuhren und die Stadt schon sehen konnten.

Um neun ging es dann schon los auf einen AIDA-Ausflug zum Peggy’s Cove.
Die Reiseleiterin sprach ein herrlich verständliches Englisch, was wir absolut klasse fanden. Einige unserer älteren Mitreisenden fanden das allerdings suboptimal und regten sich herrlich auf, allerdings ohne sich zwischendurch mal direkt an die Reiseleitung zu wenden… Letztendlich übersetzte dann unser mitgefahrene AIDA-Scout häppchenweise die Erläuterungen, und wir waren heilfroh, dass wir das englische Original hören durften, was viel umfassender und nicht so “holprig” war.

Peggy’s Cove ist ein malerisches kleines Fischerdorf an der Küste mit einem Postkarten-Motiv-Leuchtturm und einem Postamt darin. Allerdings war dieses winzige Dorf überfüllt mit Touristen, der Busparkplatz war insgesamt wohl größer als das Örtchen selbst…

Wir erfuhren einiges zum Thema Hummerfang und lernten männliche und weibliche Hummer auseinander zu halten. Halten durfte man sie auch, das überließ ich aber den mutigeren Mitreisenden

Am schönsten an dem Ausflug war eigentlich die Fahrt durch die wundervolle Landschaft Kanadas. Leider konnten wir die ja fast ausschließlich aus dem Bus heraus bewundern, da es keinen Zwischen- oder Fotostopp gab. Traumhafte Wälder, einsame Seen und schöne Holzhäuser, ganz so wie man sich Kanada so vorstellt. Für mich steht fest, dass Kanada auf alle Fälle mal als Urlaubsziel in Frage kommt! Von der Reiseleiterin erfuhren wir sehr viel über Land und Leute, z-B. über Ahornsirup, Kilts, Nova Scotia und das Titanic-Unglück von 1912. Damals war Halifax bei der Rettung und Bergung von Überlebenden und Opfern intensiv beteiligt. Es gibt z.B. einen Friedhof in Halifax, auf dem 121 Opfer begraben wurden. Wir wollten den eigentlich besichtigen, konnten ihn bei unserem Stadtbummel allerdings nicht finden.)

Gegen Mittag waren wir zurück am Pier, von dort liefen wir aber direkt los, um Halifax noch auf eigene Faust zu erkunden. Zunächst zur Zitadelle, da man von dort eine tolle Aussicht auf Halifax haben sollte.
Das Wetter war total sommerlich – die Sonnenbrille und kurze Hose durften endlich mal aus dem Koffer! Auf der Zitadelle gab es Dudelsack-Spieler und Studenten, die in Kostümen die Räume der Gebäude erklärten und für eine authentische Stimmung sorgten. 
Insgesamt fiel uns auf, dass die Menschen in Kanada wirklich auffallend freundlich sind! Während man sich noch überlegt, ob man gerade die Straße überqueren will oder nicht, halten schon nette Autofahrer an und winken einen hinüber. Oder in den Schaufenstern gab es Schilder “Welcome AIDAaura” und luden zum Eintreten ein. Tolles Gefühl!

Zurück an Bord nahmen wir im Theater an der Informationsveranstaltung zur Abreise teil. Dabei wurde erklärt, wie das Einreise-Prozedere in den USA und am Sonntag die Abreise von der AIDA ablaufen sollte. Alles sehr gut organisiert, hatten wir den Eindruck. Auf alle Fälle wird man regelmäßig mit Informationen durch die Bordzeitschrift oder Durchsagen auf dem Laufenden gehalten, sehr professionell.

Al plantear la estrategia de márketing  combinando diferentes medios, uno tiene que darse cuenta de que TV, Internet, Radio, prensa escrita – todos – tienen cobertura y público diferentes, por lo tanto la simple replicación del contenido no aporta mucho valor aunque puede servir para mejor memorización de las marcas.

El espacio el internet ofrece un montón de oportunidades, pero al mismo tiempo es aun más dificil para las empresas diferenciarse y crear una llama de atención entre millones de terrabytes de información de todos tipos (texto, video, imagenes, etc.). El posicionamiemto tiene que ser muy claro, y a parte – diseño llamativo, capaz de atraer usuarios. Dicho esto, el contenido y el diseño no es suficiente para aportar valor. Lo importante es llevar el usuario a la acción (la compra o reserva). En el mundo digital el famoso modelo AIDA de siempre:

pasa a ser AAIDA, con la otra A de acción.

He asistido al seminario de L’Oréal y Google en Budapest. Google ha dado una corta presentación con ciertos datos estadísticos e información acerca la colaboración de forma consultoria con sus clientes (a continuación me voy a referir a esos ejemplos). Así, el modelo de AIDA/AAIDA no funcionaba bien para sitio de Comet: a la hora de hacer la compra los usuarios se distraían por otra publicidad, otros productos, por lo que la empresa tuvo que rediseñar el sitio para aumentar ventas. Se trata de la mejor funcionalidad.

Para crear interés, es vital la visualización. Luego para llegar a la acción, la infraestructura del web debe apoyar las decisiones del usuario. Las empresas cada vez lo hacen mejor. El 24 % de los usuarios adultos de la UE compran en internet (según Google), y el 45 % buscan en internet para luego comprar en las tiendas reales.

La interactividad también juega papel importante en crear ese tipo de infraestructura. Las muchas aplicaciones para PC y para móviles  que son por cierto la tendencia del desarrollo del marketing digital. Entre las aplicaciones voy a citar una:

El grado de realidad del contenido digital cada vez crece mas. Por ejemplo, el nuevo producto LAYAR que te proporciona toda la informacion de los objetos que salen en tu foto.

“A facut un episod de insuficienta respiratorie si a fost dus la Unitatea de Primiri Urgente (UPU) din cadrul Spitalului Clinic Judetean de Urgenta (SCJU). Acum se afla la sectia de Anestezie, Terapie Intensiva (ATI), intr-o stare destul de grava”, au declarat surse din cadrul Directiei de Sanatate Publica Cluj.

Artistul este sotul Rozaliei Mogosan, directorul economic al Institutului Inimii “Nicolae Stancioiu”. Personalul medical care s-a ocupat de ingrijirea acestuia, pana la stabilirea diagnosticului, a fost izolat.

Conducerea Directiei de Sanatate Publica (DSP) Cluj a confirmat, vineri, diagnosticul. “Nu este nici o problema. Este un caz care a necesitat terapie intensiva. Nu e nimic deosebit”, a declarat Mihai Moisescu, directorul adjunct al DSP Cluj.

El a adaugat ca medicilor care au intrat in contact cu bolnavii li s-au facut investigatii medicale.

Asta din cauza bolilor pulmonare pe care le are si unei suprainfectii bacteriale. S-au recoltat probe de virusologie si se asteapta rezultatele de la Bucuresti (de la Institutul Cantacuzino n.red.)”, a declarat un medic din cadrul Directiei de Sanatate Publica (DSP) Cluj pentru Ziua de Cluj.

“Domnul Mogosan este un colaborator al Operei si este profesor la Academia de Muzica. A fost invitat de mai multe ori sa cante la Opera, ultima data anul trecut. Este un artist extraordinar. Familia acestuia ne-a rugat sa nu dam detalii despre problemele artistului”, a declarat Dan Badila, purtatorul de cuvant al Operei Nationale.

Profesor al Academiei de Muzica si solist al Operei din Cluj, Gheorghe Mogosan, in varsta de 51 de ani, a interpretat roluri in opere precum “Aida”, “Rigoletto”, “Nunta lui Figaro” sau “Olandezul zburator”.

Nån som minns det gamla Attention Interest Desire Action? Inte? Nån som minns filmen Glengarry Glen Ross? Inte det heller. Kolla det här klippet och se filmen senare, om inte annat.

Després d’una setmana incomunicat, i més recuperat físicament, toca retornar al blog amb un plat ben fort, com van ser les ja llegendàries funcions de l’Aïda que es van marcar la Caballé i el Domingo al Liceu.

Com ja vam comentar en el post dedicat a La Traviata, la temporada 1973-1974 la Caballé va protagonitzar tres produccions al Liceu: Caterina Cornaro, La Traviata i Aida.

Aquelles funcions d’Aïda no suposaven el debut absolut de la soprano en el paper de l’esclava etíop, malgrat el que diu el crític de la crònica que us adjunto al post, ja que durant els seus anys com a cantant en plantilla dels teatres d’òpera de Basilea i Bremen, a finals de la dècada dels cinquanta, ja s’havia enfrontat a ell. Van ser una sèrie de funcions absolutament triomfals, potser un dels punts més àlgids de tota la historia del teatre tant per la qualitat del conjunt vocal aconseguit com per la transcendència internacional que van suscitar les funcions, que poc desprès es van traduir en la magnífica gravació de l’òpera per a la casa EMI, tot un clàssic de la discografia.

Com a anècdota d’aquelles funcions cal dir que la Direcció del Teatre, encapçalada pel Sr. Pamias, passava per dificultats econòmiques força greus i que no disposava dels diners suficients  per pagar els honoraris del cast (que ascendia a unes cinc-centes mil pessetes). Vist la desbordant demanda d’entrades per a les funcions previstes va donar ordre a les taquilles que posessin a la venda el màxim número d’entrades possibles. Així en les llotges on normalment hi havia quatre localitats es van habilitar fins a vuit, i es van ocupar els passadissos i qualsevol lloc on pogués col·locar-se un espectador. En aquelles funcions al Liceu, un teatre que normalment tenia sobre dos mil cinc-centes places, hi van assistir més de quatre mil persones.

Anoche, en el Gran Teatro del Liceo La mejor «Aida» que recordamos haber aplaudido nunca en Barcelona

Las representaciones de «Aída» acostumbran a ser siempre un éxito porque la ópera se presta a galvanizar la afición de! público afecto al repertorio italiano. «Aída» es importante, no tanto por su espectacularidad que anima constantemente la escena con su pintoresquismo de un Egipto faraónico inefablemente convencional, como por los reales valores de una partitura maestra de una dimensión y profundidad dramática que palpita por debajo de la trivialidad de la ambientación. Alguien ha dicho, con absoluta justeza, que la antepenúltima ópera de Verdi, a pesar de sus efectos visuales, del montaje escenográfico y de su apoteósica escena triunfal del segundo acto —el momento más multitudinario y fastuoso de toda la obra—, la popular «Aída» es intrínsecamente una ópera íntima. Gran parte, o de hecho la mayor parte de la música que interpretan los tres principales personajes —Aida, Radamés, Amneris— está escrita con esta delicadeza y claridad de textura que caracterizan a la mejor música de cámara. Es una ópera que trata de seres humanos, de sus pasiones y no de rivalidades nacionalistas ni de hazañas militares. Y «Aída» puede ser considerada igual- mente como la obra escénica más ori- ginal do Verdi, dado que combina el vigor y la sorprendente fecundidad melódica de la primera etapa creadora de su autor con algo de esa sutil penetración psicológica que impregna sus dos siguientes grandes y definitivas obras geniales —«Otello» y «Falstaff»— sin que por ello parezca en momento alguno una ópera de transición. Anoche el éxito invariable de «Aída» fue auténtico y grande desde todos los puntos de vista, aunque indudablemente lo incrementó de forma decisiva las peculiaridades de la interpretación y en especial el hecho de que Montserrat Caballé, por. primera vez, asumiera el papel protagonista de la princesa etíope. ¿Qué puede decirse a estas alturas de la Caballé que no sea reiterar los adjetivos admirativos a su voz, o su personalidad y a la fuerza de su temperamento?

Montserrat Caballé acaba de añadir un nuevo título a su repertorio y no es arriesgado afirmar que este enriquecimiento de su experiencia le proporcionará muchos triunfos que podrá sumar al obtenido ahora en el Liceo. En un dominio absoluto de facultades, segura en la emisión y en la manera de expresarse dramáticamente, de maravillarnos desde el principio al final de la obra. El vigor y la penetración psicológica aludida antes, que son el nervio del papel de Alda, ha sido traducido por la Caballé con un ímpetu y una tensión insuperables. La artista ha valorado a cada momento el más sutil matiz emotivo desde su primera intervención en el soliloquio «Ritorna vincitor, e dal mió labbro usci l’empia parola…», en el qua ha puesto un acento casi desgarrado, hasta en las postreras palabras del final «O térra addio, addio valle di pianti…» entonadas al unísono con Plácido Domingo en la cripta de la muerte, con infinita dulzura, como Verdi había pensado que debía ser este adiós a la vida, expirando «si pura e bella, degli anni tuoi nel fiori…» como expresa Radamés en el último abrazo. .Del principio al final, pasando por momentos de más intensidad, estos que mayormente revelan la vena lírica de Verdi y su poder descriptivo del alma y las tensiones conflictivas de sus personajes: el largo diálogo de Aída y su rival Amneris en el segundo acto y el de Aida con Radamés en el cuadro del Nilo, escenas las dos de antología en toda la historia de la ópera italiana, Montserrat Caballé en todo este desarrollo de la acción se ha mantenido como una cantante de gran clase y con la capacidad de siempre para conquistarse abiertamente al público que le ha tributado un seguido de ovaciones delirantes y de bravos arrebatados e interminables al final de cada cuadro y de cada acto.

No menor ha sido el triunfo de Plácido Domingo, definitivo ya desde las estrofas iniciales de «Celeste Aida, forma divina, mistico serto di luce e fior…», prolongado a lo largo de toda la representación hasta el elegiaco «Morir, si pura e bella, morir per me d’amore…». Plácido Domingo tiene en la voz esta densidad tan rara de encontrar en un tenor. Voz llameante a veces, grávida de emoción, de un timbre soberbio, dominada con una sensibilidad de verdadero músico que sabe lo que es un escenario y un público de ópera y que sin descender en ninguna concesión al afectismo logra arrebatar al que estima el teatro lírico y el poder emociona! de sus cantantes. La explosión entusiasta que rubricó su «Celeste Aida» marcó la tónica de su éxito absolutamente merecido que nos alegra infinitamente, porque es el reconocimiento de la valía de un artista de verdad, de un intérprete de categoría incuestionable.

El triunfo, realmente sin precedentes, de esta «Aida» se ha debido igualmente al equilibrio logrado contando con cantantes excepcionales para los demás papeles. Porque excepcional ha estado Bianca Berini como Amneris, espléndida en volumen y la inflexión de su caudalosa voz. Y más aún Gianpiero Mastromei que sé presentaba personificando al cautivo Amonasro. No recordamos que nunca se haya confiado este papel a un artista dé tantas posibilidades, de tanto temperamento dramático y con un timbre baritonal de tanta potencia y calidad. Ha sido ovacionado con el mismo entusiasmo que los demás protagonistas. El bajo Gwynne Howell ha dado empaque y solemnidad al papel de Ramfis y Juan Pons se ha superado en el papel de rey, sobresaliendo también Cecilia Fontdevila y José Ruiz en sus respectivas intervenciones.

Cuando en escena las cosas marchan bien, acostumbra a pasar que no hay nadie que quiera desentonar. Esto sucedió ayer. El coro cantó con especial ajuste; el ballet —con Asunción Aguadé y Alfonso Rovira como solistas— fue singularmente brillante; la presentación, al cuidado de Diego Monjo, sin apartarse de la tradición, parecía renovada, como si todo fuera acicalado y nuevo. Y la orquesta se ha puesto en consonancia de lo demás, dirigida con temple por un maestro de tanto oficio como Gianfranco Masini.

De mi recuerdo, nunca había visto tan lleno el Liceo como anoche. Ni se había producido tanta expectación, al menos desde hace muchos años. Ni el público se había volcado más alborotadamente al entusiasmo rayando a un histerismo fuera de lugar. Porque no es necesario vociferar como en un campo de fútbol para afirmar ostensiblemente una realidad como la que acabamos de constatar; la de esta «Aida» que nos atreveríamos a afirmar que es la mejor que se ha cantado en el Liceo desde que tenemos consciencia de lo que es representar la ópera de Verdi con los cantantes de la envergadura que exige la partitura.

“Miteinander, nicht gegeneinander” staat te lezen op een van de plaquettes op de Alexanderplatz in Berlijn. Tegen wil en dank stonden de Berlijners ooit tegenover elkaar, gescheiden door een letterlijke muur van onbegrip. Nu werken de Berlijners samen en genieten ze bewust van betere tijden. Dat zie je in de indrukwekkende nieuwe architectuur, maar ook aan een willekeurig tafereeltje: een man (vroeger West-Duitser) en een vrouw (vroeger Oost-Duitser) die samen op een terras aan de Gendarmenmarkt genieten van een glas wijn. Berlijn voelt als een gelukkige stad.

Bondskanselier Angela Merkel van de BRD, van Oost-Duitse origine, een van de machtigste vrouwen in de wereld, getuigt in de Frankfurter Rundschau:

Der Fall der Mauer am 9. November 1989 war für uns in der DDR ein unbeschreibliches Ereignis. Er war der Anfang vom Ende der SED-Diktatur. Er bedeutete das Ende des Kalten Krieges. Ich selbst habe diesen Abend in Berlin miterlebt. Ich sah Schabowskis Pressekonferenz im Fernsehen und rief sofort meine Mutter an, um sie an eine alte Verabredung zu erinnern: Wenn uns die Mauer nicht mehr am Reisen hindern würde, würden wir, so sagten wir immer in meiner Familie, im Kempinski Austern essen gehen. Wir rechneten allerdings beide nicht damit, dass sich die Grenze noch am selben Abend öffnen würde.

Also ging ich wie jeden Donnerstagabend in die Sauna. Als ich zurückkam, hörte ich, der Grenzübergang Bornholmer Straße sei offen. Ich bin sofort hingelaufen und habe wie tausend andere Menschen den Grenzübergang nach Westen überquert. Ich empfand – wie alle anderen – eine unglaubliche Freude. Der Empfang in West-Berlin war sehr, sehr herzlich. In einer wildfremden Wohnung haben wir mit einer Dose Bier auf die Maueröffnung angestoßen. Dann bin ich wieder nach Hause nach Ost-Berlin gegangen.

Vandaag nemen ook scholen en kunstenaars van hier deel aan het grote dominoproject in Berlin. In ’creatieve herinnering’ aan de Wende, de Umbruch, deze revolutie die het einde van de Koude Oorlog, het einde van het IJzeren Gordijn, inluidde. Een mijlpaal van vrede en vrijheid in onze geschiedenis.

Op zoek naar schrijvers over de Mauerfall koos ik de boektrailer van de Duitse schrijver Renatus Deckert, en twee gerenommeerde Duitsland- en Berlijnkenners uit Vlaanderen en Nederland: Geert van Istendael n.a.v. de docu Terug naar Berlijn, en Cees Nooteboom met Berlijn 1989 – 2009, een actualisering van zijn Berlijnse notities. De laatste twee auteurs waren dezer dagen in Antwerpen: Cees Nooteboom op het festival De Nachten dat dit jaar speciaal in het teken van Berlijn liep, Geert van Istendael op de Boekenbeurs.

Een avondlijke update

Eerlijk gezegd overviel me tijdens het bloggen vanmorgen dezelfde gedachte als die ik vanavond bij Aïda op de Blog der Zuchten las:

Ik herinner me ook nog als gisteren wat nu geschiedenis is. En wie ooit Berlijn bezocht kan dit niet gedaan hebben zonder de immense impact ervan gevoeld te hebben.

Maar bij elke reportage of documentaire was er bij mij ook constant die gedachte die haast niet in de media komt. De gedachte aan al die andere mensonterende en misdadige muren die vandaag nog bestaan en zelfs nog verder gebouwd worden. Of zullen we voor uitgebreide media-aandacht misschien nog 50 jaar moeten wachten, als de twintigste verjaardag van de val van deze muren zal gevierd worden.

El Area Joven  de la Municipalidad de Reconquista, con la coordinación en esta ocasión del evento de Julia Lotero, junto con la  Cátedra Abierta sobre Derechos Humanos del Instituto Superior de Profesorado Nº 4 “Angel Cárcano”,  presentaron en Reconquista el Movimiento Teatro por la Identidad, brazo artístico de las Abuelas de Plaza de Mayo.

CORO EN TEATRO- FESTIVAL 2009

El miércoles 4 de noviembre  actuaron en el Teatro Español, y por la tarde lo hicieron en las instalaciones de la Escuela Nº 634 “Yapeyú”. Cabe consignar que dicho proyecto, impulsado por la Cátedra sobre DDHH del ISP Nº 4 y el Area Joven del municipio local fue declarado “de interés municipal” por el Honorable Concejo Deliberante de Reconquista, y “de interés legislativo” por la Cámara de Diputados de la provincia de Santa Fe.

CORO EN TEATRO- FESTIVAL 2009 RECONQUISTA

El jueves 5 se  presentó en el Teatro Español , ante una sala colmada con un público sorprendido, en una función libre y gratuita.

Las obras que se presentaron fueron tres:
- “Manos Grandes”, de Mariana Pérez, dirigida por Mónica Scandizo . Monologo de  Andrea Villamayor.
- “Vic y Vic” (teatro documental), de Erika Halvorsen, con la actuación de Paula López y Lucía Maciel.
- “El señor Martín”, de Gastón Cerana, con dirección de Cristian Sabaz y actuación de Cristian Sabaz y Leopoldo Barbieri.

Cabe destacar la brillante actuación de los actores, en especial del actor y director Cristian Sabaz, quien brilló en el escenario del Teatro Español, demostrando una calidad Escénica formidable.

El viernes 6 de noviembre se presentaron en el TEATRO ESPAÑOL, de Reconquista,

Solistas del Instituto Superior de Arte del Teatro Colón de Buenos Aires y becarios de la Fundación Accentus de Santa Fe, presentándose  junto al

Coro Polifónico Municipal “ Dionisio Cantero “  de Reconquista.

La compañía interpretá arias, dúos, cuartetos y coros de las ópera más conocidas y bellas de compositores románticos: L’ELISIR D’AMORE (de Gaetano Donizetti),

LOS CUENTOS DE HOFFMANN ( de Jacques Offenbach)

TOSCA Y LA BOHÈME (De Giacomo Puccini)

CARMEN (de Georges Bizet) y

AIDA Y LA TRAVIATA (de Giuseppe Verdi).

Se estrenaron además números de la opereta cómica EL MURCIÉLAGO (de Johann Strauss) con ambientación del argumento y montaje escénico (música , luces, actuación, )

Per una serata diversa stasera siamo andati al Met Opera a vedere l’Aida – diretta da un italiano, milanese per la precisione, Paolo Carignani. Iniziamo dicendo che tra i due l’appassionato di opera non sono io, e che durante l’unica altra opera che siamo andati a vedere qui (Le Nozze di Figaro) ho tenuto il sopracciglio sinistro alzato in pieno scetticismo per tutto il tempo. Sono un po’ come l’antitesi di Julia Roberts in “Pretty Woman”- se mi vedete con gli occhi lucidi probabilmente e’ perche’ ho appena sbadigliato.
Eppure stasera, sara’ la mia passione sfrenata per l’Egitto, sara’ che le musiche e le scenografie erano davvero eccezionali, ho proprio sentito un’emozione mai provata prima – dopotutto forse l’opera mi piace
In ogni caso, se passate da queste parti, un salto al Met Opera lo merita, fosse solo per l’architettura esterna di stile estremamente asciutto ma maestoso, e sicuramente per i lampadari interni che, sebbene non proprio di classe come quelli dei teatri italiani, fanno la loro sporca figura.

La Profonda:  Aprile Millo

The grand diva with the golden voice is giving her 25th anniversary recital with the Opera Orchestra of New York, on November 17th, 2009 at 8pm at the Frederick P. Rose Recital Hall in the home of Jazz at Lincoln Centre.  This recital proves to be a magical, historic, and elegant evening, with a few surprises and Ms. Millo’s absolute devotion to her art, which to her represents a sacred vocation.  The first time I personally heard Ms. Millo, she was portraying Verdi’s Aida.  It was a voice I have never ever forgotten and one to which I have always felt a particular affinity.  This is a voice that comes along once in a lifetime.  Her golden voice is made up of the best attributes of her predecessors, Claudia Muzio, Rosa Ponselle, and Renata Tebaldi, and her technique is one that is firmly cemented in pure and unadulterated Bel Canto lyricism.  Combine this with Ms. Millo’s devotion to her art and the combination is almost too emotional for human consumption.  In a phrase, she is a living, breathing, musical vessel, one that anyone who loves opera, voices, or music should experience.  She is a true artist in the most fundamental sense of the word and her voice is a gift to us all.  There is no question that we are lucky to have her in our midst, as we were lucky to have Mr. Pavarotti, and all of the other greats who contributed so profoundly to this art.

On a personal note, I have never had the pleasure of hearing Ms. Millo in live performance, and so this first time I’m hearing her is also the first time I’m performing with her at a public venue, as such.  I am graciously honoured and humbled to be a guest artist on this important event.  With all of the respect I have for this artist, personally and professionally, there are no words to express how excited I am to be experiencing this.  I hope you’ll come and experience it with me.

Aprile Millo was a wunderkind.  She possessed this voice of almost unnatural beauty since she could walk.  When she sings, the room, the hall, vibrates with an energy that you can only understand if you have been enveloped by this voice.  It is one of those great voices that will go down in the history books for the rest of eternity.  One of the most accurate and definitive Italian voices ever, with an ability to sing recitativo like no one else, with a sense of punto di linea that I think some of us have forgotten is “inherent” in this music, and it lives in one of the kindest and most generous of individuals. Ms. Millo has won accolades the world over.  Please join me in this magnificent evening, celebrating one of the greatest artists this world has ever known.  My hat goes off to you, Signora.  The greats who are no longer with us will all be there celebrating with you.  From my heart to yours, auguri!

Internet Finally Getting Non-Latin Domain Names

The address bar at the top of your browser is filled with latin characters. Those who use the latin alphabet, we haven’t thought twice about this. But if you live in a country with a non-latin alphabet then you had to learn new characters to type in a web address. This is going to change soon, as ICANN (the group that decides on ip and addressing regulations) has decided to use native characters in the address.

Google Making search more musical

Google has partnered with MySpace (which just acquired iLike) and Lala to give you music results when you search for a song, band, or album title. The first results will have links to play the song. There will also be links to purchase the song/album directly through MySpace or Lala services. There will also be links to music discovery sites such as,  Pandora, imeem and Rhapsody.

I tried out the service on their demo site, before the release date, and it looked good. Though I am unable to get any of the same results on my searches today. The demo is down today, and I do not see the results in my regular google searches. I am not sure if I’m missing something or if the service isn’t fully released yet. ???

Condusul ar putea deveni mult mai plăcut după introducerea roboţelului AIDA ca şi companion de drum şi GPS. 

The Affective Intelligent Driving Agent (AIDA) va putea să te informeze despre cea mai bună rută către casă, pe baza rapoartelor de trafic, să îţi aducă aminte să pui combustibil şi chiar să sugereze locuri interesante de vizitat.

Robotul, care fie va sta pe bord, fie va fi integrat la unele modele, este realizat de MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) în colaborare cu Volkswagen.

AIDA comunică cu şoferul cu ajutorul prin intermediul unui display şi va încerca, de exemplu, să zâmbească dacă vede că eşti supărat.

Cynthia Breazeal, director la MIT’s Personal Robots Group, a declarat: “AIDA va putea să determine dispoziţia şoferului din expresia facială, precum şi alte indicii, şi va răspunde într-o modalitate potrivită. AIDA analizeaza traseele pe care le foloseşte şoferul, precum şi punctele de plecare şi destinaţie”. Creatorii cred că robotul ar putea propune soluţii după o săptămână de “învăţare”, sugerând trasee care evită drumurile blocate de trafic.

Proiectul urmăreşte să dezvolte o relaţie simbiotică între şoferi şi AIDA, fiecare învăţând de la celălalt.

Most people do counted cross stitch on three main varieties of fabrics or backings:  1) Plastic canvas, 2) a pre-woven fabric called Aida, which has large holes and comes in standard sizes,   or 3) on finer fabrics: linen  or even-weave fabric.  The linens are not the same sort of linens that you would use to make clothes, but special embroidery linen where the warp and weft threads are evenly regulated so that the resulting stitches come out square shaped and not rectangular.

More than one novice cross-stitcher has tried to stitch on the easier to obtain and cheaper linen cloth meant  for clothing and discovered to their dismay  that it produces uneven rectangular stitches and a distorted image.

Linen used in embroidery has the distinctive linen “look” in that the threads go “thick-thin” repeatedly at irregular intervals of the thread length, it’s not too dramatic a difference, but a noticeable one, and so some thread intersections could be a connection of “thick-thick” threads and other ‘”thin-thin”.

Normally this wouldn’t matter because cross-stitch on linen is usually done “Over-Two”. The weave is tighter than with Aida fabric and this is reflected in the thread count that denotes the fabric.

The Thread Count number is simply refers to the number of threads per inch of fabric, so a single stitch done on 14 count Aida fabric would be the same size as a single stitch done on 28 count linen or even-weave Over-Two threads.

This means that each stitch is done two threads high x two threads wide, so any variation in the thickness of the threads is generally evened out. It’s another story when stitching “Over-One” though.. more on that shortly.

Even-weave fabric is made especially for embroidery, there are many varieties but as the name implies, there is no thick-thin variation within the threads and so a more uniform look is achieved. When used in cross-stitch it gives a more classical look to any background fabric that shows around the surrounding stitching.

Even-weaves, like linens, are usually stitched “Over-Two threads” but for some of us who like an extra challenge, there is and added dimension for which even-weave fabrics are ideally suited…  and that is stitching Over-One thread.

Since I’m a detail fanatic I quickly  gravitated to the challenge of Over-One stitching…  this means taking  an even-weave fabric and  instead of stitching a cross-stitch that is two threads high and two threads wide,  I stitch it one thread high and one thread wide.

This means that instead of getting 14  stitches to an inch Over-Two, I can now get 28 stitches to the inch Over-One.

Effectively there will be 4 Over-One stitches in the same space of a single Over-Two stitch, and a finished pattern that would have been for instance: 6 inches by 8 inches would stitch up Over-One with a resulting size of 3×4 inches. This will give a more photographic effect and allows me to stitch small items like   Christmas tree ornaments using  patterns that would normally be  too big for that purpose.

I usually have at least one ” mega” cross-stitch project on the go, but like to also have a  small series of projects on hand for quick and easy transport. I came up with an idea.. I would stitch Christmas Tree ornaments for my children… using a variety of subjects and there will be one each for every year, from baby styles to more grown up ones, all with the same border pattern and they will be made into ornaments later and presented to them when they leave home and have their first Christmas tree of their own.  These are all stitched Over-One thread on, in this case 25 count Lugana even-weave fabric.

The one in the next photo isn’t finished because I need to stitch the last highlights with metallic gold thread, which is less forgiving to stitch with and is pone to breaking if the fabric is folded or clamped in a frame, so I will stitch the rest of this fabric full of ornaments first and do the gold and backstitch for this one at the very end.

On the edge of the fabric I have stitched the numbers of the two colours I use in the border… just in case I  forget.

I hope that when the whole project is completed that my son and daughter will each have a set of 18 or more hand-made ornaments to decorate their first tree with… and I hope that even though it will mark a new  chapter in their independence, that each time they look at it they will know that Home is not far away. Of course I also hope that they will be close enough to us that we will still be celebrating a Family Christmas together either at their house or ours.

So if you want to get inspired, start a family  tradition… make something that tells your kids: “made for you with love”  that will hopefully be treasured and passed on though future generations.
