Floridians were surprised to see the weekly forecast with lows in the 50s and 40s. South Florida, including Broward and Dade County, are beginning to feel the cold winter days with dramatic wind chills. A weekly weather forecast for Broward shows lows in the 50s for the following week.

Many homes will be relying on their air condition units to keep them warm during these cold days. Most air conditioning units in Broward are use to producing nice cool air in homes. Broward homeowners must be sure that their ac units are in good condition in order to prevent it from breaking down. Dramatic changes made in the temperature your ac unit produces can cause it to break down faster than having stay at one temperature constantly. Make sure to get your unit service and repair regularly to prevent it from failing on you when you need it most.

It is a fact that heating and cooling systems are major factors for those looking to purchase homes, and are a critical part of living comfortably in a home. You may frequently hear the term “HVAC,” which is used to describe home heating and cooling systems. The acronym stands for Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning–which are the 3 primary functions of a home system.

Heating and cooling systems are classified as either central or local. Central heating and cooling is the most standard method, and is defined by a system that produces warm or cool air in one central area and then distributes it throughout the home. Some of the products typically used in central heating and cooling systems are gas and oil furnaces, controls and thermostats, air conditioners, heat pumps, and evaporator coils. Local heating and cooling, on the other hand, produces warm or cool air at the location where it is needed and serves small spaces.

Heating systems keep your home warm and comfortable. If you live in a particularly cold climate, the function of your heating system is a high priority. Most central heating and cooling systems are classified as forced air systems, because they send air through ductwork for distribution. Some of the typical heating products include: fan coils, gas and oil furnaces, heat pumps, and boilers.

Make sure to get your air conditioning system regularly checked so that it doesn’t fail on you when you need it most.

Breeze-Air.com, an HVAC company that serves the New York City area, announced on August 18th that they have begun to change to green energy and efficient air conditioning units. Ronnie Oberlender, CEO and founder, is doing everything he can to help Breeze-Air.com help the community; by turning to green, energy-efficient air conditioning units, not only is the environment helped, but the customers are also able to save money on their electric bills.

On the Breeze-Air.com website, Oberlender states “Now our customers can shop for and order AC system upgrade. Everybody wins – we expand our product market, help environment and customers can save money.” Customers are able to request an AC upgrade and Breeze-Air.com offers an affordable way to switch over to green energy.

Breeze-Air.com has served as an HVAC contractor in the NYC area for the last 16 years and is a leader in the field. Their switch to green energy is one that will soon be necessitated by changes in the HVAC industry.

By 2020, R 22, the old refrigerant in central air conditioners, will be almost completely phased out and will have been replaced by R-410A. In the next 2 years, manufacturers will only be able to produce R 22 for already-existing equipment. New central air conditioners will eventually have to use R-410A. R 22 is being phased out because of its negative impact on the ozone layer. It adds to global warming by damaging the ozone layer. R 22 was first slated to be phased out after the 1987 Montreal Protocol due to the chlorine gas that it emits.

Customers should consider this when purchasing their HVAC units; while many manufacturers are on schedule for the phasing out, not all are. As a result, Breeze-Air.com’s decision to offer energy-efficient and green energy air conditioning units is very helpful. Customers do not have to take as much of their own time and energy to ensure that the air conditioning unit they purchase has the necessary components to work with R-410A.

Additionally, because the shift is coming, where R 22 central air conditioning units will be more obsolete, their prices are more and more expensive. Conversely, R-410A compliant air conditioning units have dropping prices.

An added incentive for buyers is that the recently passed federal stimulus bill allows homeowners to claim a $1500 tax credit for installations of qualifying air conditioning units that occur between January 1, 2009 and December 31, 2010. The passed bill also overrode the $500 lifetime cap for earlier tax credits that homeowners might have received.

By upgrading today, customers can receive the tax credit, help the environment, and start to save on their electric bills! All of this for installing a green energy, more energy-efficient air conditioning unit! Why wouldn’t someone take advantage of this golden opportunity?

Join Breeze-Air.com in helping impact the environment in a positive manner. Upgrade your central air conditioning unit today and use green energy in your home. Start saving money on your bills immediately. This is not an opportunity that you want to pass up!hvac new york

Yesterday we talked about coming out anarchist. But that isn’t the only secret we are keeping.

Yesterday we talked about coming out anarchist. But that isn’t the only secret we are keeping. All of us, every last anarchist on the planet, does something they know they shouldn’t. Be it network TV, McDonalds, or simply finding comfort in monogamy, we all take part in things which we know to be at the very least unnatural, and often harmful to our very being.

What do I mean? How about I use myself as an example. Regular readers know me as the unreliable, yet prolific, voice of Propaganda of the Seed. I am a committed pacifist, anarchist, and environmentalist. I oppose aggressive violence in all forms, be it against people, property (whatever that means), or that which we share in common. I believe that the only power over our destinies is the power we exercise over it. I believe that as long as we ignore the fact that we are but one part in the vast system of our planet, we are ignoring that which is swiftly becoming our soon to be dead Earth.

I have been active in numerous causes and groups. SDS, Emancipating Education for All, the march on the Pentagon to mark our fifth, sixth, and soon seventh anniversary of the invasion of Iraq. I write for a radical blog, and am a frequent contributor to InfoShop news.

But I have a dirty secret. I love cars. Everything from classics to muscle to exotics. If it runs an internal combustion engine, and is designed to be driven, rode, or survived on public streets, closed tracks, or mountain trails, I love it. Ferraris, 4×4s, and Falcons. I love them. Such is my mania that I have to force myself to stay on topic rather than go on a tangent about how excited I am about the new 4Runner and the fact that the Fiat 500 may finally be coming to these shores.

I am sure some of you have turned up your noses at that statement. Cars are crass symbols of our decadent society. Additionally the internal combustion engine, while far from the largest contributor to global warming (despite what mainstream politics say), is a destructive and harmful way to get your jollies. I know this. Every time I go to a car show, a small part of me in the background is constantly thinking “you know this is all wrong, why do you take part?”

The reason I do is because it is my culture. My dad is a car guy, my brother is a car guy. As I grew up I never surrounded myself with car guys intentionally, yet I still found myself constantly in the company of people who share my disease. And you know what, I bet you do to.

It may not be cars, it may not even be so big, but I bet there is something we all do that we know we shouldn’t. I don’t know what it is, maybe people know you as an outspoken vegan, yet you still sneak some cheese and crackers when no one is looking. Maybe you see the injustice in our class system as you drive to work for J.P. Morgan. Maybe you openly mock friends who don’t recycle, yet can’t bear to live without air conditioning. Whatever it is, you know you do it and you know it is wrong.

I think it is time we own up to our imperfections and accept each other for who we are. So long as we maintain this image as flawless warriors against the status quo, we are both making our own lives more difficult, and making it harder for others to join us. Surely you have heard people who share your politics yet not your activism use excuses which site the fact that because of all the things they do that AREN’T perfect, they could never stand up for perfection. But we know that is bunk as none of us are perfect. But until we acknowledge, both amongst ourselves and in the public eye, that none of us are perfect it will be impossible to gather the support we need to change the system in any significant way.

One of the strengths of anarchist theory is that we don’t need to present a better option. We do not have the burden of presenting the people a path to enlightenment, instead everyone is responsible for their own enlightenment. So maybe we need to realize that eliminating cars, air conditioners, or the consumption of meat may not be the solution for everyone. I want to live in a world without restrictions, not a world without lumpy-cammed V8s idling under candy colored steel.

Keeping Cool Tips for Everyone

Stay in air-conditioned space at home, the library, the mall, movie theater or at a cooling center.

Drink lots of water and natural juices. Avoid alcoholic beverages, coffee and colas.

Keep shades drawn and blinds closed, but keep windows slightly open.

Stay out of the sun and avoid going out in the heat.

Keep electric lights off or turned down.

Take cool baths or showers.

Wear loose, light cotton clothing.

Do not eat heavy meals. Avoid cooking with your oven.

Avoid or minimize physical exertion.

Do not sit in a hot car, even for a short time. Never leave a child in a hot car.

Check on family members, friends and neighbors to make sure they stay cool and safe.

If you or anyone you know needs emergency medical attention, call 911.

It is against the law to open a fire hydrant. An open hydrant hinders the fire department’s ability to fight fires, reduces water pressure in your home and may cause basement flooding.

Special Keeping Cool Tips for Seniors

During heat emergencies, seniors are urged to contact their local area agencies on Aging or the Senior HelpLine at (800) 252-8966 for assistance with locating senior centers, adult day service sites and other buildings that serve as cooling centers.

Humidity combined with temperature make up the heat index, which is similar to the wind chill factor in winter. If the temperature is in the 90s with high humidity, it can feel like it is well over 100 degrees.

Keeping Cool Tips for Your Pets

What is that one thing that you should ideally have installed in your home, which would ease off the

What is that one thing that you should ideally have installed in your home, which would ease off the intense heat and discomfort of the summer months? If you are thinking about an air conditioning unit as an answer, you are certainly on the right track. Air conditioners are one of the key additions that you need to have in your home, so that you can effectively maintain the perfect temperature in your rooms, during all seasons. An efficient air conditioning system can also cut down on excessive domestic power usage as well. Hence, it should be clear that, such a useful heating and cooling unit should be well-maintained, and properly repaired, as and when necessary. For example, if the air conditioning drains, and the pipes of that area get blocked, you need to set about getting rid of the problem immediately.

The drain passages of air conditioners (that are normally found just below the actual engine of the unit) form important components of the overall system. These pipes help to get rid of all condensed water vapor from the working unit of the AC, so that the latter can function smoothly and efficiently. However, these air conditioning drains might get obstructed due to several reasons. At such times, it becomes handy to be aware of the easy steps to remove these blockages, and make your air conditioner function normally again.

So how can the blockages that might form in the air conditioning drains be removed? In this discourse, we would be dealing with three useful steps of tackling with the problem. These ways can be listed as under:

i) Inspecting the drains of the air conditioner – Generally, soapy water can be used to check if the drains of your air conditioning unit are functioning optimally. If you have a central AC system, or a ducted one, you can pour soapy water on the drain tray (also known as the emergency tray) of the unit, after, of course, switching off the power of the latter. If the air conditioning drains are working as desired, the soapy water should run off along one end of the drains, and move down through the pipes of the unit. However, if the water tends to stagnate somewhat, and do not move away smoothly, that can serve as a confirmation that the drains of your AC has obstructions. If such is indeed the case, you have to take the necessary steps to clean these drain pipes of the unit,

ii) Source of blockages in the air conditioning drains – Next, you need to find out what is causing the obstructions in the drains of your air conditioner. Many common pests, like spiders, can easily be the reason behind the problem. Dust particles, dirt or twigs can also block the air conditioning system. A strap, that is highly flexible, can be pushed up and down along the drains of your AC, so that the obstructions can be removed. You can also pass compressed air (from the roof area) through the air conditioner to clean the drains of the latter, and

iii) Using Bleach Solutions – From time to time, you should also pour a special mixture, made out of water and bleaching chemicals, through the air conditioning drains. That would effectively destroy all forms of molds and other growths that can form in these drain pipes, thereby blocking them.

The cost of removing obstructions from the drains of your air conditioning system generally varies according to the type of the unit that is to be repaired. For example, fixing the problems with a central air conditioner that runs on electric power, can cost any amount between $1500 to $ 3000. On the other hand, if you are looking to repair your gas-run central air conditioner, you need to spend something in the range of $ 2600-$ 3500.

Air conditioners are exceedingly useful modern domestic appliances. They can maintain the correct and comfortable balance of room temperatures, and can help to reduce your costs of cooling as well. For optimal performance of these units, you should also make sure that there are no factors that are adversely affected the performance of your AC. In particular, if there are blockages in your air conditioning drains, you need to take the afore-mentioned steps to remove the obstructions, quickly and easily.

USA – Washington, Seattle/Mt. Rainier

The United States are different in many ways. It seems like people enjoy being told what they are allowed and not allowed to do. At least they accept loads of signs all around telling them about fines they’ll receive and jails they’ll have to visit for doing various things. I heard bus drivers shouting about random things, was told not to lean on walls or take pictures, had to face the most complex tax calculations when buying chocolate bars, but also went up rather random office buildings to visually document the views without being bothered by anybody.

Anyway, I stopped arguing with random people some time ago in Australia – so I was able to simply enjoy Seattle. Last Friday, I went with four fellow travellers and a rental car to mount Rainier to do some hiking. To see a volcano with glaciers, almost perfect blue skies and to wander over big white snow fields was definitely one of the highlights of the last week. Unfortunately, the weather was rather changeable and I got a bit sick soon after. If it were the air-condition systems everywhere or the rather cloudy and rainy weather doesn’t matter.
Nevertheless, I got up to Vancouver, Canada by the Greyhound bus without any difficulties and took the chance of being not a hundred percent healthy to sit back and relax my first days in the province of British Columbia.

Around Seattle – Pike place market, the place where grunge was born, the locks around Ballard (with fish) and at mount Rainier (with lakes and jumps!)..
