Ketika waktu berbuka, kebanyakan dari kita—jujur saja—lebih tertarik pada air minum yang dingin, berwarna, seperti air jeruk, sirup, kola, dan sebagainya. Padahal, di atas semua itu, air putihlah yang utama. Kenapa?

Air dalam tubuh diantaranya berfungsi menjaga kesegaran, membantu pencernaan dan mengeluarkan racun. Namun, tahukah Anda, ternyata banyak manfaat yang direguk dari air putih, selain nikmatnya kesegaran, apalagi setelah seharian berpuasa.

Banyak orang yang tidak mengetahui khasiat air selain untuk menghilangkan dahaga saja. Air dapat menyembuhkan berbagai macam penyakit dengan cara yang mudah dan murah. Berikut beberapa manfaat air putih yang mungkin dapat kita jadikan acuan saat akan mengkonsumsi minuman di luar dari air putih.

1. Memperlancar Sistem Pencernaan

Mengkonsumsi air dalam jumlah cukup setiap hari akan memperlancar sistem pencernaan sehingga kita akan terhindari dari masalah-masalah pencernaan seperti maag ataupun sembelit. Pembakaran kalori juga akan berjalan efisien.

2. Air Putih Membantu Memperlambat Tumbuhnya Zat-Zat Penyebab Kanker, plus mencegah penyakit batu ginjal dan hati.

Minum air putih akan membuat tubuh lebih berenergi.

3. Perawatan Kecantikan Bila kurang minum air putih, tubuh akan menyerap kandungan air dalam kulit sehingga kulit menjadi kering dan berkerut. Selain itu, air putih dapat melindungi kulit dari luar, sekaligus melembabkan dan menyehatkan kulit. Untuk menjaga kecantikan pun, kebersihan tubuh pun harus benar-benar diperhatikan, ditambah lagi minum air putih 8 – 10 gelas sehari.

4. Menyehatkan Jantung

Air juga diyakini dapat ikut menyembuhkan penyakit jantung, rematik, kerusakan kulit, penyakit saluran papas, usus, dan penyakit kewanitaan. Bahkan saat ini cukup banyak pengobatan altenatif yang memanfaatkan kemanjuran air putih.

5. Melangsingkan Badan

Air putih juga bersifat menghilangkan kotoran-kotoran dalam tubuh yang akan lebih cepat keluar lewat urine. Bagi yang ingin menguruskan badan pun, minum air hangat sebelum makan (sehingga merasa agak kenyang) merupakan satu cara untuk mengurangi jumlah makanan yang masuk. Apalagi air tidak mengandung kalori, gula, ataupun lemak. Namun yang terbaik adalah minum air putih pada suhu sedang, tidak terlalu panas, dan tidak terlalu dingin. Mau kurus?, minum air putih saja.

6. Tubuh Lebih Bugar

Khasiat air tak hanya untuk membersihkan tubuh saja tapi juga sebagai zat yang sangat diperlukan tubuh. Kita mungkin lebih dapat bertahan kekurangan makan beberapa hari ketimbang kurang air. Sebab, air merupakan bagian terbesar dalam komposisi tubuh manusia.

7. Penyeimbang tubuh .

Jumlah air yang menurun dalam tubuh, fungsi organ-organ tubuh juga akan menurun dan lebih mudah terganggu oleh bakteri, virus. Namun, tubuh manusia mempunyai mekanisme dalam mempertahankan keseimbangan asupan air yang masuk dan yang dikeluarkan. Rasa haus pada setiap orang merupakan mekanisme normal dalam mempertahankan asupan air dalam tubuh. Air yang dibutuhkan tubuh kira-kira 2-2,5 l (8 – 10 gelas) per hari. Jumlah kebutuhan air ini sudah termasuk asupan air dari makanan (seperti dari kuah sup, soto), minuman seperti susu, teh, kopi, sirup. Selain itu, asupan air juga diperoleh dari hasil metabolisme makanan yang dikonsumsi dan metabolisme jaringan di dalam tubuh. Jadi ketika malam hari, pastikan cukup air putih masuk ke dalam tubuh.

Air juga dikeluarkan tubuh melalui air seni dan keringat. Jumlah air yang dikeluarkan tubuh melalui air seni sekitar 1 liter per hari. Kalau jumlah tinja yang dikeluarkan pada orang sehat sekitar 50 – 400 g/hari, kandungan aimya sekitar 60 – 90 % bobot tinja atau sekitar 50 – 60 ml air sehari.

Sedangkan, air yang terbuang melalui keringat dan saluran napas dalam sehari maksimum 1 liter, tergantung suhu udara sekitar. Belum lagi faktor pengeluaran air melalui pernapasan. Seseorang yang mengalami demam, kandungan air dalam napasnya akan meningkat. Sebaliknya, jumlah air yang dihirup melalui napas berkurang akibat rendahnya kelembapan udara di sekitarnya.

Tubuh akan menurun kondisinya bila kadar air menurun dan kita tidak segera memenuhi kebutuhan air tubuh tersebut. Kardiolog dari AS, Dr James M. Rippe memberi saran untuk minum air paling sedikit seliter lebih banyak dari apa yang dibutuhkan rasa haus kita. Pasalnya, kehilangan 4% cairan saja akan mengakibatkan penurunan kinerja kita sebanyak 22 %! Bisa dimengerti bila kehilangan 7%, kita akan mulai merasa lemah dan lesu.

Asal tahu saja, aktivitas makin banyak maka makin banyak pula air yang terkuras dari tubuh. Untuk itu, pakar kesehatan mengingatkan agar jangan hanya minum bila terasa haus Kebiasaan banyak minum, apakah sedang haus atau tidak, merupakan kebiasaan sehat!

Jika berada di ruang ber-AC, dianjurkan untuk minum lebih banyak karena udara yang dingin dan tubuh cepat mengalami dehidrasi. Banyak minum juga akan membantu kulit tidak cepat kering. That’s why I don’t understand convertibles; not only is there nothing above your head but also your air conditioner doesn’t really work because natural air keeps blowing in your face. I like my air to come from gas powered engines or a hookers breath.

Celebrities also love roofs, that’s why many of them sell roofs in their spare time. Roofs do so much for us I can totally understand their love of roofs. Roofs cover us and if you think children in China are roofs then roofs are also responsible for most forms of toy production. Celebrities love to stand and be seen and when they stand on a roof more people get to see them and notice how they too have human skin. Roofs are also in many famous movie scenes such as…um…the titanic? Whatever, roofs make famous people more famous and that’s why celebrities try and own as many roofs as possible. It’s a simple algebraic equation; people are only as valuable as the number of roofs they stand on and the amount of money they put in their bank account.

Another great thing about roofs is that roof rhymes with doof, and not very many things rhyme with doof. Celebrities like words that rhyme with doof, I have never been able to figure out why but it has something to do with makeup and not making sense during television interviews.

I also love roofs because if you have one then I know not to make fun of you for being homeless. I am very good at making fun of homeless people; I am so good at making fun of homeless people that they often are unable to think of a witty reply and that has nothing to do with the fact that they don’t have lips.

The Jakarta administration will develop an early warning system for areas around the Pesanggrahan River in South Jakarta, to mitigate possible flooding in this rainy season.

Since the Situ Gintung dam burst earlier this year, the areas have become more prone to flooding, because the dam that once retained flood water from the river is no longer in place.

Deputy Governor Prijanto said the system would station several workers in the former dam area who could make quick calls to heads of nearby residential areas whenever water levels exceeded acceptable limits.

“We will build a good early warning system. If the dam shows sign of flooding, people around Pesanggrahan river have to know about it,” Prijanto said Monday at City Hall.

However, the Jakarta Administration could not do anything related to the rehabilitation of the infrastructure of the Situ Gintung dam, which burst on March 27 during the rainy season, Prijanto said.

Besides making the early warning system, he said he would order the mayors of South and West Jakarta to provide temporary shelters for residents whose houses may be affected by future floods.

The administration also plans to station dinghies and emergency response teams in areas near the river, to minimize the time it takes aid to reach flood areas, Prijanto said.

The head of Environmental Task Force NGO, Ahmad Safrudin, said the move was too late since the Situ Gintung catastrophe had happened eight months ago.

“The city should have developed an early warning system straight after the dam burst, not at the beginning of this rainy season.

“But it’s better late than never,” he added.

The Adobe Integrated Runtime: it’s making my Computing project so simple. I needed a desktop solution – but I don’t know VB6/ C++/ Java etc. well enough. What I do know is HTML/ CSS. And a little bit of JavaScript. So hey – why not use AIR? It lets me build my app as if it were a website, which is really quite simple in this case, and then package it up

as a .air file and install for desktop use.

Better yet – Adobe are working on AIR 2, which includes support for both CSS3 and HTML5. So, that’s my design problems out of the way. All I have to do now is work on a way of calculating the maximum flow in a network using JavaScript…

First off, I am not writing this as an environmentalist, tree hugger kind of person. I do like the environment and think there is so much beauty out there that we don’t appreciate.

The air I speak is in public restrooms. Yes I really am writing about the issue of noxious fumes that many of us just can’t stand when you walk into a public facility.

What I would like to see is a mandatory automatic air freshener required to be in all public facilities and port-a-johns. Seriously. Who hasn’t walked into the work loo only to be knocked on your heiny from the previous person’s use?

Maybe Finch from the American Pie movies had it right to not use public facilities. I don’t know. But I am tired of walking into someplace where it smells like the kids were dropped off at the sewer not the pool.

Please, please, if there are any EPA or health inspectors reading this get some new regulations in place and soon. I and my nose thanks you.

It was a presentation of EPA staff concerning the new PCB Mega Rule — to an audience of several hundred mostly industry representatives.

The fact is that natural gas pipelines are now regulated under the PCB rule because many of them ARE contaminated with PCBs, due to leaking of PCB oil used in the compressor pumps which push the gas through the pipeline.

All along the gas lines — from the original wells to our homes and industries — are condensate traps where sampling often finds PCB in high levels. (Between 50 and 500 ppm)

Sadly (for us) – that is what happened. But before she left town, Dr. Ride was kind enough to send us the following video message:

Sally Ride Hall of Fame Portrait

She is the first American Woman in space.  She is a world renowned physicist. She is dedicated to interesting young women in science, technology, engineering, and math. She is Sally Ride.

Born in 1951 in Los Angeles, California, Sally graduated High School in Westlake, where she was a Nationally Ranked Tennis player. She attended Swarthmore College and then transferred to Stanford University where she eventually received a doctorate degree in Physics in 1978.

While a doctorate candidate, Ride was one over 8000 people to answer an advertisement seeking applicants for the space program and was accepted! After joining NASA, Ride underwent an extensive training period that included parachute jumping, water survival, gravity and weightlessness training, radio communications and navigation. For the second and third Space Shuttle flights, Sally served as the ground-based Capsule Communicator between On June 18, 1983, she became the first American woman in space as a crew member on Space Shuttle Challenger for STS-7.

During the mission, the STS-7 crew deployed satellites for Canada and Indonesia and conducted the first formation flying of the orbiter with a free-flying satellite, along with many other important tasks. The mission lasted over 6 days before landing on a lakebed runway at Edwards Air Force Base, California, on June 24, 1983.

Dr. Ride took to space for a second time in 1984 on STS 41-G, which launched from Kennedy Space Center, Florida, on October 5, 1984. After the tragic Space Shuttle Challenger disaster, Dr. Ride served as a member of the Presidential Commission investigating the accident. She later served on the accident investigation board for the space shuttle Columbia tragedy, the only person to serve on both boards. Upon completion of the Challenger investigation she was assigned to NASA Headquarters as Special Assistant to the Administrator for long range and strategic planning.

In 1989, Dr. Ride joined the faculty at UCSD as a Professor of Physics and Director of the University of California’s California Space Institute. Because of her passion for motivating girls and young women to pursue careers in science, math and technology in 2001 Sally, founded her own company, Sally Ride Science, which creates entertaining and informative science programs and publications for upper elementary and middle school children. In addition, she has written numerous science books for children.

Dr. Ride has been a member of many prestigious organizations including the President’s Committee of Advisors on Science and Technology and the National Research Council’s Space Studies Board, and has served on the Boards of the Congressional Office of Technology Assessment, the Carnegie Institution of Washington, and the NCAA Foundation.

Dr. Ride has received numerous honors and awards. She has been inducted into the National Women’s Hall of Fame and the Astronaut Hall and has twice been awarded the NASA Space Flight Medal.

For her incredible courage for being the first American Woman in space and her desire to instill in young women a love for the sciences, the San Diego Air & Space Museum takes great pleasure in inducting Doctor Sally Ride into its International Aerospace Hall of Fame.

I’ve been looking forward to this week for a long time now; ever since I stumbled onto Billetlugen and saw that Air would be playing at Vega this Friday. If you’ve never heard of them, let me tell you, you’ve really missed something. It’s a French electronic duo with such great hits as ‘Kelly Watch the Wtars’, “Cherry Blossom Girl’ and ‘Alpha Beta Gaga’ (and oh, so many more).

In fact, one of my favourite music videos is for a song by Air – ‘How Does It Make You Feel’. It’s not from their latest album (which came out probably about a month ago), but it is sooooo cool. Enjoy:

Anyway, I’m obviously going and afterwards there’s White Trash Cabaret at Lille Vega, which I’m also considering. Should be pretty cool – lot’s of great DJs as well as art work and happenings. All for a good cause (the AIDS-fund). And since it’s been a loooong time since I was last out and about, shaking and shimmying on the dance floor, I think it’s about time I went to a real nightclub (instead of just listening to music and dancing on my own while cleaning the apartment).

And that’s also my tip of the week: Last time I checked, there were still tickets available for both events. So if you feel like some fresh Air or just want to join the trailer park party, get out there and buy your ticket now!

Sitting on the deck drinking in sunshine with my cup of tea. How good it feels to breathe the fresh air this morning. How good it feels to walk without crutches.

Waking up without a throbbing pain in my calf fills me with joy and hope. And then, learning to walk again. My mind-body became so used to walking with a limp that I no longer knew how to walk normally.

No leaning, no hopping, no favirotism for any limb. Each body part must participate as equals. Then in moments the body remembers and I walk again. Seems so simple now.

How do people live without this sun and fresh air? Brings back the simple joy of living on the farm.

Fernando e Gustavo formaram em 2008 uma dupla, que se apresentou algumas vezes, fazendo paródias de músicas conhecidas, como atração de abertura do espetáculo ‘Lente de Aumento’, de Leandro Hassum, que estreou no mesmo ano no Teatro dos Quatro.
Com o sucesso desse show de abertura, surgiu a idéia de fazer um espetáculo que misturasse stand up comedy e paródias de músicas, além de algumas músicas inéditas. Convidaram o ator Gregório Duvivier para participar do espetáculo e assim surgiu o MUSICOMÉDIA.

No início de 2007, um grupo de sete pessoas composto por designers, documentaristas, publicitários, jornalistas, produtores culturais, diretores de arte, fotógrafos, críticos de música e produtores musicais, todos amigos, decidiram fazer uma festa própria e nababesca numa grande mansão somente para os amigos. Seria uma festa onde todos teriam a liberdade de expressarem os sentimentos mais ocultos da psique humana e da linguagem corporal. E como toda festa em casa, nesse caso uma grande casa, a seleção musical deveria ser eclética, agradando a todos os gostos possíveis dos presentes na festança.

A idéia era boa, porém, um detalhe básico mudou pra sempre o rumo dessa história. Ninguém dos sete possuía a tal da mansão.

De lá pra cá, a Calzone aconteceu 12 vezes nos lugares mais diversos e inusitados da cidade do Rio de Janeiro. Foram cinemas fechados e a céu aberto, Rodas Gigantes, casebres, teatros, estúdios e até eventos culturais de vanguarda como o Multiplicidade, que o espírito calzone de João Brasil, Lucas Bori, Pedro Seiler, Filipe Raposo, Paulo Sattamini, Bruno Natal e Lúcia Jaimovich fizeram muita gente bacana se divertir.

Para a edição do Open Air, O CALZONE CREW SISTEMA DE SOM COLOCATOR promete mostrar ao público por que chegou ao estrelato.

Peneliti telah menemukan ribuan spesies yang belum pernah diketahui sebelumnya. Binatang ini hidup dari belerang dan metana atau memecah minyak.

Sebanyak 17.650 spesies yang menakjubkan berhasil diungkap. Penemuan makhluk aneh itu melalui kamera yang diderek jauh di dasar laut, sonar dan teknologi lainnya.

Makhluk aneh itu terdiri dari kepiting hingga udang cacing yang hidup di dunia dingin dan gelap, 5 km di bawah ombak laut.

Kebanyakan dari makhluk-makhluk ini beradaptasi dari makanan dari kotoran yang berasal dari lapisan atas yang diterangi matahari.

Sementara yang lain hidup dari belerang dan metana, atau bakteri yang memecah minyak, atau dari tulang-tulang paus yang mati tenggelam dan makanan tidak masuk akal lainnya. 

Para ilmuwan telah menginventarisasi sekitar 17.650 spesies yang hidup lebih dalam dari 200 meter, di tepi kegelapan, di mana sinar matahari tidak lagi menembus. Jumlah ini termasuk 5.722 spesies di kedalaman 1.000 meter.

“Biasanya kedalaman laut dipandang sebagai sesuatu yang dianggap terlalu jauh, seperti sebuah lubang, padang pasir, gurun, tetapi apa yang kita temukan dalam pekerjaan kita adalah bahwa terdapat keragaman spesies yang luar biasa di sana, sering kali dengan adaptasi yang kita belum kita mengerti,” kata peneliti Robert Carney dari Louisiana State University, pemimpin bersama Continental Margin Ekosistem.

We stayed here for 4 days and 3 nights; and it was a part of the overwhelming positive experiences that I have had during my stay in Coron, Palawan.

The place is clean all the time! They see to it that the rooms and private comfort rooms get cleaned everyday during your stay. They also make sure that the entire lodge is spic and span all throughout the day. I have never seen any litter at all in my entire stay.

The facilities in this lodge pass the normal standards of travellers: hot and cold shower, all air-conditioned rooms, centralized water system. It’s like you never left home at all. I’ve had a comfortable stay at this lodge.

It’s also probably the only lodge that includes breakfast for two along with the daily room charge. And what’s more, drinking water and coffee is unlimited, no extra charge. I should say that staying at Darayonan is really a value for your money.

Superficial feelings of power engender false authority, a mock-passivity is established when petulance is removed. But symbolic factors are dynamic; yet they waver only to beguile – they cannot be trusted. One might view a symbol as a gormandizer, involving every sign that it encounters, but that would be allowing the symbol infinite tractability, or impossible obstinance.
The sun contains a space too large for most hands, too intense for destiny to grow; therefore a more accessible medium is sought. Despite itself, the sun is often rendered as quiescent, propagating a false sense of comfort through silent familiarity. Guards descend into darkness and a state of dubious acceptance germinates. Today brings knowledge of the past. Let time bequeath the focus of control onto one who is more accessible. Rather than understanding the sun, let us stand over our grounds. By lack of will, symbols employ palinodes with a secret unctuousness. Embarrassed by its continuance, the dominion of space seeks air to breathe. A state of indelibility is exhausting, harbingered by dawn, eroding as the day thins. So when you are enjoying a nice warm shower (especially on a cold day), don’t you hate turning off the water?  I do!  Not only that, but I know that the minute I open the shower door, the warmth will turn to immediate cool air and ruin that warm feeling! 

This has been multiplied lately for me, as I have to shower with the bathroom door open, so my 16 month old can get to me and I can know she’s okay while I’m showering.  So not only am I getting the shock of the air temperature versus the shower temperature, but I have the entire bedroom and bathroom’s air to contend with!  I dread opening the door every time!

And while we’re on the subject, have you ever wondered how it is that the foot and a half gap between your shower door and the ceiling don’t allow that cold air to seep into your shower?  I’m just amazed at this phenomenon!  Okay, so I know there’s some scientific explanation for it, but let me live in wonder!

Cool and crisp. Like biting an apple. Bright and brisk. You like my friend and I.
Run on run on. We don’t want it to end. Come on come on. We don’t want to go in.

Running around the house. The air is so thin we can run all day.
It’s getting dark, but its still early. I know its dark, but can we stay?

We don’t realize how poor we really are, not on a day like this.
There are no toys that were made by anyone other than us.

We don’t care how dirty we are, there’s still so much left to do.
Fights to fight, things to find, animals to see, trees to climb.

Still calling, I know, I know, I can hear you.
But we play on and I pretend that I can’t.

I’m coming. We’re almost done.
That was ten minutes ago.

We’re hunched over.
But wanting more.
