This series carries five to six science images appeared on the web with news snippets that lead you to read more. Take a lazy Sunday plunge into eye candy science, if you will.

1) SEM of a synthetic drug coated with co-polymers.

It looks computer-generated but not.

This is because the particles – and those within them – are so smooth: they are artificial and have virtually no texture. The image really shows what technology can do in targeting drugs to specific purposes. This system is designed to delay the release of the drug that is contained in the smaller particles until it reaches the large intestine, where it will treat inflammatory bowel disease.

…the synthetic polymers used to coat a drug, either to target the release of the drug in a specific part of the digestive tract or to allow the drug to be released slowly. Polymers play an important role in reducing side-effects of drugs, as well as the number of times a patient needs to take a medication.

3) An infant neutron star observed for the first time (blue dot in the centre of the image).

The neutron star which is located in the “Cassiopeia A” supernova was photographed by the The Chandra X-ray Observatory. Aside from the evil faces of their executioners, these weapons could be among the last objects that the Maguindanáo Massacre victims saw before their lives were snuffed out of their bodies.

So what is this clan up to? And are these the kind of public servants that the ARMM has, using terror and sowing fear as a means of governance?

I don’t know what you guys are talking about. I’m 14 know a fair amount about airsoft guns. My friend owns this gun and uses it alot. It is sturdy and if you know how to properly adjust the hop-up it can go far, shoot hard and accurrately and can leave large welts on your body. Trust me, I have had first hand experience. The gun has a fairly long life on a 9.6 volt battery. I would definitely reccomend purchasing this rifle.

The U.S. declined the purchase of the weapon to favour that of American made, albeit inferior design, technology and reliability. U.S. = ouch….

Hello everyone,

Again, sorry for the length of time between posts.  I am trying to find a somewhat decent schedule to allow me to be able to do this more often.  So since CSS is pretty much the only game I have really been playing as of late, here are some skins that I like to use to make the game a little more interesting.

Lately I have put down Guildwars and have moved on to a on-line multi-player based First Person Shooter called Counter Strike Source.  Now I am sure that at least 80% of the world has heard of this game and at least 40% of it is addicted to it..haha jk.  But the jist of the game is to keep the terrorist for achieving their goal.  I mainly try to play both Counter-Terrorist and Terrorist equally as the servers I usually play on usually auto select what I am anyways.  I try to alway play teh CS_Office  map because I find it the most fun and it basically gives both teams a equal advantage against the other.

Normally if I am a Counter-Terrorist I use the Famas, Deagle, Scout, M4 and the M3.  If I am a Terrorist I usually go with Mac10, Deagle, M3, Scout and the Sig552.

Each gun is unique in its own.  Basically you have to learn how each guns recoil will affect the path of the bullets.  This has been my challenge the whole 3 years I have been playing this game.  I have learned to just accept that this game isn’t perfect and to not trust that every bullet will kill the person you are shooting at.  I’m sure some people will tell you that they unloaded a shotgun in someone’s face from 2ft away and some how they did only 20 dmg, while that person died.  That is just the nature of the beast with this game.  It really does take some practice and hand eye coordination with the cross-hairs and the mouse.  If you want to get more in depth on learning the guns of CS…just YouTube the gun and I am sure you will find loads of video on the guns recoil and spray patterns.

All of these skins are FREE and very easy to install, but don’t be surprised if there maybe one that gives you an issue.  My advice to any of you who want to do this..BACK UP YOUR CSTRIKE FOLDER before you make any changes!!!!

Less than a year since I previewed the original, Left 4 Dead 2 has already become available in demonstration form. A lot has been made on whether or not the original needed a sequel so soon. Some say the new campaigns could have just been added as DLC, but after getting my hands on the new iteration in the series, it’s clear that more than just new characters,weapons, and maps were added. Don’t get me wrong, all that stuff is new too, but there’s clearly been an effort to add more detail to this zombie infested world, and now the game feels more fleshed out, and less like a mini-game, which is something I had a problem with in the first game.

The demo starts on a campaign called, “The Parish,” where you start on the docks of a presumably Louisiana town, and try to make your way through the hordes of infected. At first, the game will seem way too similar, but after a few run ins with infected, it becomes apparent that the A. I. has stepped it’s game up this time around. Playing Left 4 Dead 2 (or the original for that matter) on any difficulty under Advanced does the game a disservice, and anyone looking for a challenge with their zombie mayhem, should jump right into advanced. The Director is back to his old tricks, and will capitalize on the mistakes of the survivors, so the second your team breaks down, and starts arguing, or worse, firing on one another, the Director will systematically destroy everything you’ve worked towards. Last year the Director was certainly a factor, but it seems to be much more intuitive in the demo.

The music in the new game seems to add a little twang to the themes from the first game, as well as just adding some newer, more creepy tunes. There’s also a section where you can turn a jukebox on, and it will play a few different songs (most notably “Still Alive” from Portal). I feel like the music adds dread to an otherwise sunny landscape, which is also a nice change of pace. There’s very few “horror” games that take place in the day time (Resident Evil 5, and it’s lack of atmosphere comes to mind), but even in the day time, these zombies are creepy enough to keep players on their toes. The flashlight may seem useless, it being day and all, but it comes in handy in every alleyway you come across, of which, there are plenty. I feel, so far, that the new Left 4 Dead provides a less linear campaign than the last. There seems to be more options on routes to the safe house, as well as more side rooms filled with weapons and equipment. This should go a long way in the replay value department.

After playing through the demo a few times, I can see Left 4 Dead 2 will have a greater assortment of tools to disembowel the infected masses. Melee weapons add a clear change of pace, especially if you want each member of your team rocking different weapons, for different zombie killing roles. For instance, we had a member of our team leading the pack with his Machete, with two guys in the middle rocking silenced sub machine guns (which do not disturb zombies at the proper ranges), and a member in the back with a shotgun, making sure none of those pesky zombies would sneak up behind us. Feels like the assortment of equipment adds almost a class system to the game, which certainly adds depth to the squad aspect. For instance you can delve out equipment, such as boomer bile or adrenaline shots to the guy up front, so he doesn’t get bile on the rest of the group, or just so he will melee at a more rapid pace. Personal preference also comes into the mix, and everyone can play the game their own way now, with more than just 6 guns.

I believe I’ve seen 9 different types of guns, 4 different melee weapons, 3 different projectile weapons, and 4 different healing devices, and this is just the demo. That’s already more of everything that was provided in the first game. Another addition, which I prefer in a game about destroying thousands of zombies, is more blood. Blood on your screen when you melee monsters, or just squirting from the recently relinquished limbs of the infected, there’s just buckets and buckets more blood than in the last game. There also seems to be more zombies per square inch of map, which I’m all for, bring on the infinite horde!

The first game was a zombie fan’s wet dream, and the second one looks to be much improved. There’s new gameplay modes, although they aren’t accessible in the demo. This game is going to be the best co-op game on the system upon release, so you’re doing yourself a solid if you go preorder the game, and get the demo ASAP!

In the papers this week were two stories, which when read side by side, demonstrated that the world of law and order has indeed gone stark raving bonkers, and Mr Common Sense has obviously packed up his bags and left the police force.

First we have Miss Kausar, a farmer’s daughter in India. She went to her father’s aide when Pakistani militants broke into their home and started beating him with sticks. They had demanded food and beds for the night, and he had bravely (or stupidly, depending on which way you look at it) said no. Obviously having inherited the brave gene, Miss Kausar came out from under the bed and struck her father’s attacker with an axe. She then used his own AK47 to finish him off.

Next in the news we have Renate Bowling, a 71-year-old great-grandmother from Thornton Cleveleys in the UK. She went to her own aide, when an intellectually challenged member of the British youth threw stones at her window. Intending to give the yob a piece of her mind, she bravely (or stupidly, depending on which way you look at it) set off in hot pursuit and then prodded him in the chest as she told him what she thought of him.

In India, Miss Kausar was commended by the police for her act of bravery. She has been hailed a national hero and nominated for the President’s gallantry award.

In the UK, Mrs Bowling was arrested by police and charged with assault. She had to use her climbing frame to climb up into the dock and then plead guilty to the charges. She also had to pay £50 costs.

And the moron who threw the stones in the first place? Unbelievably, even though he left bruises on Mrs Bowling wrists, these were put down to ’self-defense’ and he got off scott free.

Seriously? What is scarier? That the police saw fit to believe the sniveling little oik, and then shoved Grandma into the back of the van. Or that the magistrates, who are supposed to be in possession of a fully functioning brain, laid the blame squarely at a pensioners stocking clad feet.

It seems the days of wearing pants on the outside of your trousers and trying to defend yourself or your property are obviously well and truly over.

I remember about 15 years ago when we were living in Zimbabwe, our family home was broken into. The local police came to see us, and, if memory serves me rightly, said that next time if we were to see the intruders, we were to shoot them, drag them inside the house and then call the police. To my knowledge we didn’t even own a gun at that time, but there was the nice police man not only giving us permission to have one, he was also telling us we should be using one.

In the UK these days however, it seems the police really do seem to be showing just how little the ‘victim’ actually matters anymore.

They failed to put a stop to the Simmons ‘family from hell’, before they drove Fiona Pilkington to such depths of despair that she saw no way out, other than to burn herself and her daughter to death in their own car.

They also advised a mother in Warwickshire NOT to report a thug who had kicked in the front door and attacked her in her own home. Why? Because it might ‘inflame the situation’. Okay then. And there was us all being led to believe that the police were there to take the reports and then do something about them. Is that not why they get to waste tax payers money on their overpriced designer sunglasses and flashy top of the range cars in the first place?

It just wasn’t like that back in the days of Juliet Bravo – they got the job done. As did Cagney and Lacey, Starsky and Hutch and good old Edward Woodward in The Equalizer. And as for The A Team. Well, they could bring down an entire army with nothing more than a tractor, a sling shot and a basket of cabbages.

The police force today, it seems, can no longer even bring down the person who’s actually on the wrong side of the law.

Por culpa de estos bandidos sin escrúpulos la gente honesta que realmente emigra para trabajar es fichada de gentuza.

El gobierno de España debería de ponerse a investigar a quien deja entrar a su país, mínimo una constancia de que la persona no tiene antecedentes penales en su país.

Mafia rusa. Tráfico de armas y drogas, extorsiones, amenazas, secuestros… y, sobre todo, blanqueo de dinero. Tienen negocios relacionados con ocio nocturno. En junio se desarticulo en la Costa del Sol al clan Tambovskaya, la mafia rusa más importante.

Mafia china. Inmigración ilegal. También falsificación de documentos y piratería musical y de películas. Igualmente, la prostitución de chicas orientales en pisos, extorsión a empresarios chinos y ajustes de cuentas por encargo.

Chilenos y peruanos. ‘Cogoteros’, es decir, especialistas en asaltar a personas por la espalda cuando sacan dinero de los cajeros.

Marroquíes. Tráfico de hachís. Aliados con españoles, británicos y holandeses, controlan el tráfico de hachís en toda Andalucía, Madrid y el Levante.

Mafia colombiana. Tráfico de cocaína. Se alían con los clanes gitanos y la mafia italiana. Sicarios y ajustes de cuentas.

Rumanos y búlgaros. Robos y falsificación. Robos en casas y comercios (mediante alunizajes), prostitución, falsificación de tarjetas y el negocio de la mendicidad. Los búlgaros roban coches de lujo.

Nigerianos. Prostitución. Traen chicas africanas y las obligan a prostituirse, en algunos casos amenazándolas con vudú.

Albano-kosovares. Robos en viviendas, comercios y polígonos industriales. Muy violentos.

Turcos. Tráfico de heroína.
