<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p><strong>Indian</strong> classical music is basically split into two branches. The northern <strong>Hindustani</strong> tradition, influenced by the musical traditions of the <strong>Mughals</strong>, and the southern <strong>Carnatic</strong> tradition which largely remains culturally devotional in nature. To Westerners, and to many even in <strong>India</strong>, Indian classical music is simply a melody without a specific beginning or a definite end. To them it is more a gymnastics in sound, and to a few, unnecessary flexing of the vocal chords. As such, to many, its technicalities seem a little too baffling. A little basic knowledge about various sections of a recital is necessary, before one may start appreciating <strong>Indian</strong> classical music.</p>
<p>Probably the most striking difference between the <strong>Western</strong> and <strong>Indian</strong> classical traditions is the importance of improvisation in the latter. While Western music has written scores, an Indian classical performance is extempore. The overwhelming majority of Indian recitals are improvised on the spot, making each performance unique and unrepeatable. The musicians may almost never have practiced together, and it may be unusual for any musician other than a soloist to have a clue what will be performed. Given this, it is mind boggling to see the speed with which incredibly complex <em>Ragas</em> are improvised by the performers, with vocalists, instrumentalists and percussionists engaged in creating an unified interaction of rhythm and melody that is precisely calculated to bring out the essence of the <em>Raga</em> and mood, set out in the composition.</p>

<p>The improvisational nature of <strong>Indian</strong> music requires the artist to take into consideration the setting, time allowed for his concert, his mood and the feeling he discerns in the audience before he begins to play. The traditional recital begins with the <strong>Alap</strong> section &#8211; the serene exploration of the chosen <em>Raga</em>. Just like an <em>hors d&#8217;oeuvre</em> (appetizer) served before the main course of a meal. After this slow introspective beginning, the musician moves on to the <strong>Jor</strong>. In this part, the basic theme of the <em>Raga</em> is elaborated and the artist tries to bring the emotional mood of the <em>Raga</em> to the surface. There is no drum (<em>Tabla</em>) accompaniment in either <strong>Alap</strong> or <strong>Jor</strong>.</p>

<p>The <strong>Alap</strong> and the <strong>Jor</strong> evolve into the <strong>Gat</strong> or <strong>Bandish</strong>, the fixed compositions of the <em>Raga</em>. The <strong>Gat</strong> is divided into two parts called <strong>Vilambit</strong> and <strong>Drut</strong>. <strong>Vilambit</strong> is set to a slower tempo, while <strong>Drut</strong> is the fast composition. Here the drums enter with the rhythmic structure of the <strong>Gat</strong> and its time cycle, the <strong>Tal</strong>. The step-by-step acceleration of the rhythm in the <strong>Gat</strong> finally culminates in the <strong>Jhala</strong>, the final movement and the climax of the <em>Raga</em>. Here the music becomes more and more playful and exciting. Often, in vocal music, the artist erupts into a <strong>Tarana</strong>, a type of composition in <strong>Hindustani</strong> vocal music in which certain meaningless words and syllables (e.g. &#8216;<em>todani</em>&#8216;, &#8216;<em>tanaderena</em>&#8216; etc) are used in a medium paced (<em>Madhya</em>) or fast (<em>Drut</em>) rendition. It was invented by <a href="http://indianraga.wordpress.com/2008/09/05/amir-khusrau-the-mystic-genius/">Amir Khusrau</a> and is now common all over India. <strong>Carnatic</strong> music has something similar called <strong>Thillana</strong> which is widely used in dance performances.</p>
<p>At the conclusion of a recital, the musician may choose to play a <strong>Thumri</strong> or a <strong>Dhun</strong>. This is a variation of Indian classical music, evolved during the <strong>Mughal</strong> rule. Here the artist has freedom to go beyond the scale of the <em>Raga</em>.</p>

M&#38;S utilizza un servizio di controllo qualità (<a href="http://www.marygober.com/">questo</a>) che ogni mese ci invia un ispettore in incognito (noto come il &#8220;Mistery Shopper&#8221;) il quale, comportandosi da cliente &#8220;normale&#8221;, ha modo di controllare l&#8217;efficienza e la rapidità del servizio, la pulizia e l&#8217;ordine nello shop floor e il comportamento generale degli shop assistants (rispetto, cortesia, presa di responsabilità etc.) e dopodichè emette un rapporto con i giudizi in percentuale dei settori e l&#8217;overall, ovvero la media, del negozio.<br />
Se l&#8217;overall è inferiore a 80% vengono tagliati fondi per premi, nuove assunzioni, varie ed eventuali e a seconda della gravità, ovviamente, presi provvedimenti più seri.<br />
Se il singolo soggetto all&#8217;anonima ispezione (che si trovi nello shop floor o alle casse) ottiene il 100% gli vengono date 100 sterline sull&#8217;unghia.<br />
A dicembre l&#8217;ho beccato io il &#8220;Mistery Shopper&#8221;, mentre ero alla cassa, ho ottenuto 94% (mi son dimenticato di promuovere la carta di credito M&#38;S a quanto pare, cosa che non fa mai nessuno&#8230;). Il totale del negozio è stato 93%.<br />
Tantissimi complimenti, tantissime strette di mano, bravo! Bravo!<br />
Ma non potevano darmi 94 sterline??</p>
<p>UNIVERSITA&#8217;:<br />
Venerdì ho passato, a quanto dice il professore egregiamente, l&#8217;esame del modulo &#8220;Music World&#8221;, il famigerato Gamelan che rimandavano da settimane.<br />
Ho eseguito le due performances impeccabilmente, divertendomi, sorridendo, rilassato davvero e senza guardare gli strumenti, il professore si è complimentato e ci ha comunicato, al termine, che avevamo tutti ampiamente superato l&#8217;esame.<br />
Il voto lo saprò purtroppo solo alla fine del modulo e questo particolare assessment contribuirà per un 30%, l&#8217;altro 30% l&#8217;avrà Pop Music (Blues, Jazz, Fusion) e infine il 40% l&#8217;esame di Indian Music ALAP.<br />
Giovedì ho il pratico di Recording Techniques.</p>

<p style="text-align:justify;">Vor kurzem gastierte die “Songs of the Soul” Tournee im Zürcher Bernhard-Theater, das für einem ganz der Spiritualität gewidmet war. Gegen 100 Musiker und Sänger/innen aus ganz Europa interpretierten Kompositionen des indischen spirituellen Lehrers und Musikers Sri Chinmoy (1931-2007). Auf der Leinwand waren Bilder und Videos des Meisters zu sehen und davor spielten die Künstler. Der Anfang machte Alap Jetzer, ein begabter Zürcher New-Age Musiker und Flötenbauer. Er spielte Improvisationen auf mehren seiner Flöten. Danach folgten Adesh &#38; Ajita mit einem impulsiven Sitar/Tabla-Stück, die Oesterreicher Mandu (Harfe/Erhu) und seine Frau Visuddhi Trummer mit Harfe (siehe Video), Choreinlagen mit Musikern aus den USA, Kanada und Europa, ein Klavierinterpretation des World Harmony Songs von André Deponds sowie als Abschluss kraftvolle Klänge des Gandharva Loka Orchestra. Das Bernhard-Theater war bis zum letzten Platz besetzt und alle Anwesenden waren begeistert.  Ich werde in den nächsten Wochen übrigens noch weitere Darbietungen des Abend in Videoclips vorstellen, die Ihr hier auf dem Blog, auf srichinmoy.tv und auf vimeo anschauen könnt; ein Video mit Adesh und Ajita habe ich im <a href="http://kedarvideo.wordpress.com/2008/11/24/songs-of-the-soul-adesh-ajita-on-vimeo/">Blogeintrag vom 24. The new internet TV station <a href="http://jeet.tv">jeet.tv</a>, based in Munich, brings an exciting program, presenting new age people, esoteric themes and interviews with inspiring men and women. One such occasion was yesterday evening when the <a href="http://www.songsofthesoulconcert.com/">&#8220;Songs of the Soul&#8221;</a> concert was broadcasted live from Munich. &#8220;Songs of the Soul&#8221; is currently touring Europa and gives hommage to the musical work of spiritual teacher and peace advocate <a href="http://www.srichinmoy.org">Sri Chinmoy</a> (1931-2007). About 100 of his students performed on stage in various groups and solo. They demonstrated that spiritual music must not only be silent and peaceful, but can at the same time also be powerful and dynamic. On the program were Swiss musicians Alap Jetzer (Flutes) as well as Adesh and Ajita Widmer (Sitar and Tabla), Mandu and Visuddhi Trummer (Erhu and Harp) from Austria and many other musicians and singers from all over the world. After a <img class="alignleft" src="http://kedarvideo.files.wordpress.com/2008/11/jeettv.jpg?w=165&#038;h=64" alt="" width="165" height="64" />concert in Milan on Friday night and a performance in Zurich (Bernhard-Theater 20.00 h), the European &#8220;Songs of the Soul&#8221; Tour ends in Heidelberg on Sunday, November 16.</p>

<p style="text-align:justify;">Gestern Donnerstagabend hat der junge aktive und sehr inspiriernde Internet-TV-Sender <a href="http://jeet.tv">jeet.tv</a> eine Live-Uebertragung aus München geschaltet. Gesendet wurde aus dem <em>Künstlerhaus am Lehnbachplatz </em>das Konzert<em> </em><a href="http://songsofthesoul.com">&#8220;Songs of the Soul&#8221;</a> zu Ehren des vor einem Jahr verschiedenen Meisters und spirituellen Musikers <a href="http://www.srichinmoy.org/deutsch">Sri Chinmoy</a>. MC war Aruna aus Augsburg, die das Leben von Sri Chinmoy und die Musiker<em> </em>einführte. Das Konzert wurde eröffnet mit einem Flötensolo des New Age-Musikers und Flötenbauer Alap Jetzer. Dann folgten ein indischer Teil mit Adesh (Sitar) und Ajita Widmer (Tabla), Mandu und Visuddhi Trummer aus Oesterreich auf Erhu und Konzertharfe sowie einige Gesangs- und Musikgruppen aus verschiedenen <a href="http://kedarvideo.files.wordpress.com/2008/11/jeettv.jpg"><img class="alignright size-full wp-image-1466" title="jeettv" src="http://kedarvideo.wordpress.com/files/2008/11/jeettv.jpg" alt="jeettv" width="276" height="108" /></a>Ländern, welch die meditativen Melodien von Sri Chinmoy seelenvoll, z.T. aber auch temparamentvoll interpretierten. Das Finale bildete das grosse &#8220;Gandharva Loka&#8221;-Orchester. Dank dem TV-Sender jeet.tv konnte man alles live miterleben. Bravo jeet.tv. Alle Schweizer Interessenten seien noch auf den Auftritt vom Samstag, den 15. November im Bernhard-Theater (20 Uhr) in Zürich hingewiesen und am Sonntag, 16. November bildet ein Konzert in Heidelberg (Prinz Carl Palais, Beginn: 17 Uhr) den Abschluss der europäischen Tournee.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>Als onderdeel van een India-weekend heeft het Utrechtse Rasa op zaterdag 22 november 2008 een bijzonder concert geprogrammeerd: een optreden van de Pakistaanse dhrupadzanger <strong>Malikzada Mohammad Hafiz Khan</strong>.</p>
<p>Mogelijk geeft Malikzada Mohammad Hafiz Khan op zondag 23 november nog een korte workshop.</p>

<p>Uit het programma van Rasa:</p>
<blockquote><p>Dhrupad is de meest prestigieuze klassieke zang van het Pakistaans-Indiase subcontinent. Volgens de overlevering is dhrupad ontstaan in de religieuze hindoe-tempelcultuur. De stijl ontwikkelde zich sterk vanaf de 16e eeuw, toen de Islamitische mogulheersers zich als maecenassen opstelden.</p>
<p>De beroemdste dhrupad-familie is de Dagar-familie uit Rajastan, die de traditie al 20 generaties lang van vader op zoon/neef doorgeeft. Veel minder bekend is de Talwindi-gharana (school) uit de Punjab. De maestro van deze westelijke tak is Malikzada Mohammad Hafiz Khan uit Faisalabad (Pakistan). Hij wordt vocaal ondersteund door zijn zoon Malikzada Ali Hafiz Khan en door Abid Hussein begeleid op de pakhawaj. </p>
<p>Het lang uitgesponnen intro, de alaap, die de eigenlijke compositie moet inleiden, is het piece de resistance van de ware dhrupadzanger. Toon voor toon worden de karakteristieke contouren en de <em>rasa</em>, het sentiment, van de raga geschetst, eerst in het lage register en daarna in het hoge. </p>
<p>De pakhawaj is het traditionele percussie-instrument voor de dhrupadstijl. Met zijn resonerende lage klank stuwt deze tweevellige cilindrische trom de <em>tala</em>, de cyclus die de ragamelodieën ritmisch organiseert, naar de finale <em>sa</em>, de grondtoon. </p></blockquote>

<p style="text-align:justify;">La tradizione musicale dell&#8217;India è antica di secoli, il primo trattato che ci è rimasto risale  almeno al quinto secolo dopo Cristo, se non a un&#8217;epoca precedente. Gli invasori mussulmani, che si erano stabiliti nell&#8217;India settentrionale durante il dodicesimo secolo dopo Cristo, parlavano con ammirazione e rispetto della musica Indiana come di una delle glorie della cultura di quel Paese.Nella tradizione indù e mussulmana, i musicisti che hanno raggiunto livelli eccelsi sono chiamati rispettivamente Pandit e Ustad. Durante l&#8217;apice della cultura <a title="sufi" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sufi">sufi</a>, spesso accadeva che i mussulmani cantavano i <a title="Bhajan" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bhajan" target="_blank">bhajans</a> o viceversa.</p>
<p>Essi stessi esercitarono un&#8217;enorme <a title="Mian_Tansen" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mian_Tansen" target="_blank">influenza </a>sulla tradizione musicale locale e di conseguenza negli ultimi quattrocento anni ci sono stati due tipi distinti di musica in India, quello del Nord (<a title="Hindustani_classical_music" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hindustani_classical_music" target="_blank">Hindustano</a>) e quello del Sud (<a title="Carnatic_music" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carnatic_music" target="_blank">Karnatak</a>). Ma tutti e due i tipi hanno molto in comune: gli elementi di base sono la melodia e il ritmo, perché <a title="Armonia" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armonia_%28musica%29" target="_blank">armonia</a>, progressione di <a title="Accordo" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Accordo_%28musica%29" target="_blank">accordi</a> e <a title="Contrappunto" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Contrappunto" target="_blank">contrappunto</a> non hanno mai attirato l&#8217;orecchio indiano. Per cui gli elementi fondamentali sono il <a title="Raga" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raga" target="_blank">raga</a>, il <a title="Tala" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tala_%28music%29" target="_blank">tala</a> e l&#8217;<a title="Accompagnamento" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Accompagnamento" target="_blank">accompagnamento</a>.</p>

<p style="text-align:justify;">
<p style="text-align:justify;"><strong>Il raga</strong></p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Non si può fare una descrizione breve e contemporaneamente accurata del raga, è costituito da una serie di note (non una scala e nemmeno un modo) che compiono un movimento ascendente e discendente, con l&#8217;inclusione di microtoni e di accenti su note particolari. Si possono avere cinque, sei, sette o più note, ma non necessariamente lo stesso numero nella fase ascendente e discendente. Questo movimento ascendente e discendente è ulteriormente complicato dall&#8217;uso di note accidentali e di un moto sinuoso.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Le note nella musica classica indiana vengono chiamate differentemente e precisamente:</p>
<ul>
<li>Sa = Do</li>
<li>Re = Re</li>
<li>Ga = Mi</li>
<li>Ma = Fa</li>
<li>Pa = Sol</li>
<li>Dha = La</li>
<li>Ni = Ti</li>
</ul>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Una descrizione più accurata del raga dovrebbe anche parlare del momento della giornata in cui viene eseguito, e sullo stato d&#8217;animo relativo.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Questa è una piccola lista non esaustiva degli strumenti musicali utilizzati per l&#8217;esecuzione di un raga:</p>
<ul>

<li>Sitar</li>
<li>Sarod</li>
<li>Shehnai</li>
<li>Flauto Bansuri</li>
<li>Santoor</li>
<li>Violino</li>
<li>Harmonium</li>
<li>Chitarra indiana</li>

<p style="text-align:justify;"><strong>Il tala</strong></p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Se il raga fornisce il linguaggio o la struttura che organizza e governa la melodia, il tala fa la stessa cosa per il ritmo, spesso suonato con le <a title="tabla" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tabla" target="_blank">tabla</a>. Un tala può essere descritto come un gruppo di colpi ritmati.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Le strutture ritmiche dei tala sono molto complesse e vengono trasmesse ed insegnate con una sillabazione ad imitazione, chiamata <strong>bol</strong>, dei vari suoni ottenuti con le tabla.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">I tala industani sono costituiti da sei, sette, otto, dieci, dodici, quattordici o sedici colpi ritmati, e quest&#8217;ultimo tipo è il più comune e viene chiamato tintal. I colpi in un tintal sono raggruppati e accentati in modo caratteristico ma l&#8217;enfasi maggiore è sempre sul primo, che viene chiamato <strong>sam</strong> e che è anche l&#8217;ultimo del tala, si potrebbe aggiungere che il tintal è diviso in gruppi di quattro battute: 4+4+4+4.</p>
<p>Il primo, il secondo e il quarto gruppo si possono dire accentati, il terzo relativamente senza accento. Benché il sam sia quello a cui si dà più enfasi, non è necessariamente suonato con un accento eccessivo tutte le volte: può anzi essere proprio la sua assenza di accentazione a caratterizzare il pezzo.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;"><img class="alignleft" style="float:left;" src="http://thedesertofman.files.wordpress.com/2006/10/sara.JPG?w=220&#038;h=270" alt="Shri Saraswati" width="220" height="270" /> Questa descrizione piuttosto rozza del tala non esprime di certo le sottigliezze dell&#8217;esecuzione, né più né meno di quanto si riesca a parole ad esprimere le sottigliezze espressive di un raga.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;"><strong>Alap.</strong> Nella tipica esecuzione di musica classica hindustana, per prima cosa il raga viene sviluppato da un assolo dello strumento melodico solista (sitar, sarod o sarangi) e ciò può durare anche metà esecuzione. Dopo ci sarà una sequenza invariabile di tre parti, con un tempo che passerà da molto lento a piuttosto veloce: alap, jod e jhala. L&#8217;alap è la parte più lunga e più importante, una lenta, seria ed estesa esposizione del raga senza accompagnamento e senza una precisa cadenza ritmica che riflette di fatto lo stile vocale, di solito seguendo uno schema ascendente che parte dalla nota più bassa del raga.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;"><strong>Jod e jhala.</strong> La parte seguente dell&#8217;alap, jod, è caratterizzata da un ritmo regolare, lento all&#8217;inizio, ma che diventa più veloce via via che ci si sposta impercettibilmente verso la parte più energica, jhala, che non ha tanto a che fare con l&#8217;esposizione della melodia, quanto con l&#8217;intento di creare un clima di eccitazione.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;"><strong>Gat.</strong> Ci può essere poi una pausa nell&#8217;esecuzione, per accordare gli strumenti, o si può continuare con il passaggio improvviso a una melodia limpida da parte del solista che invita il suonatore di tabla a seguirlo. La tabla da quel momento in poi mantiene il particolare tala (o taal), cioè la particolare figura ritmica ciclica spiegata precedentemente, come accompagnamento alle melodie precomposte conosciute con il nome di gat.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Dopo l&#8217;esecuzione iniziale di una melodia gat (che in genere è lunga come un ciclo di tala) i suonatori passano velocemente all&#8217;improvvisazione. Spesso solista e accompagnatore giocano fra di loro scambiandosi i ruoli: il suonatore di tamburo esegue il tala mentre il solista improvvisa, oppure il solista espone un gat senza abbellimenti mentre l&#8217;accompagnatore si esibisce come improvvisatore.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">I musicisti si possono anche impegnare in uno scambio che è una sfida all&#8217;imitazione: il solista suonerà una serie di frasi melodiche, sfidando l&#8217;accompagnatore a riprodurle ritmicamente. Il gat viene suonato con crescente complessità diventando un jhala e finisce con un tehai, una frase ripetuta tre volte che termina sul primo bit del ciclo ritmico, chiamato Sam.</p>

<p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="text-decoration:underline;">Contemporaneamente la melodia farà ritorno alla matrice eterna del SA</span>, la prima nota del raga, da cui è emersa. La melodia e l&#8217;accompagnamento si fondono in un unico suono e le corde del tampura che hanno fornito un incessante sottofondo per tutto il pezzo, sono le ultime a fare udire la loro vibrazione.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Una delle quattro parti dei <a title="Veda" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Veda" target="_blank">Veda</a>, il <a title="Samaveda" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samaveda">Samaveda</a>, descrive la musica classica indiana in modo approfondito. Tutte le forme differenti dei raga, agiscono sui vari <a title="chakra" href="http://www.sahajayoga.it/chakra.html" target="_blank">Chakra</a> nel cammino della <a title="kundalini" href="http://www.sahajayoga.it/kundalini.html" target="_blank">Kundalini</a>.</p>
