An incredible revelation

I’ve been watching the news unfold about the E-mails and documents that were somehow pilfered (or leaked) from the University of East Anglia Climate Research Unit (CRU) last week. I have been reading everything that I can find on the internet about the subject, including the E-mails themselves and some of the programmer comments embedded in the CRU software.

I have been stunned.

So it appears that either a) the science behind anthropogenic global warming (AGW) is dubious, or b) the entire global warming panic has been an outright fraud perpetrated by politically-motivated scientists against an unsuspecting, and largely gullible, world population. I tend to believe the latter.

Not only am I stunned, I’m also livid. At the same time, however, I’m also relieved that the priests of global warming now have serious reasons to be worried…if not afraid. And now I hope the Senate will have more reason to look at the pending cap and trade debate with more skepticism. Given the current–and very real–economic crisis, we don’t need Congress levying additional taxes with the intent of thwarting a crisis that doesn’t even exist.

Nothing sucks more than that moment during an argument when you realize you’re wrong

I am an AGW denier. I have always been a denier. I am proud of the fact that I never fell for what, in my mind at least, always came across as being specious bullshit. I’m so, so grateful that I’m not among the millions and millions of gullible idiots who took the bait hook line and sinker.

Up until now the term “denier” has been used as a pejorative by global warming adherents to describe skeptics. But now one is led to ask the question: Who exactly are the real deniers? Those of us who refuse to believe alarmist prognostications of imminent climatic doom, or those who refuse to recognize and consider evidence that sits before their very eyes? Again I say the latter. They are the ones in a deep state of denial, after all. But why?

Because (probably subconsciously) they simply cannot bring themselves to admit that they have been wrong all along…they cannot admit that they have allowed themselves to be duped. They have been fooled by perhaps the most outrageous con job of all time, and they cannot bear to face up to that single, pitiful, ignominious truth. They are sheep, pure and simple.

Case in point: Eugene Robinson of the Washington Post:

Stop hyperventilating, all you climate change deniers. The purloined e-mail correspondence published by skeptics last week — portraying some leading climate researchers as petty, vindictive and tremendously eager to make their data fit accepted theories — does not prove that global warming is a fraud.

If I’m wrong, somebody ought to tell the polar ice caps that they’re free to stop melting.

That said, the e-mail episode is more than a major embarrassment for the scientists involved. Most Americans are convinced that climate change is real — a necessary prerequisite for the kinds of huge economic and behavioral adjustments we would have to make to begin seriously limiting carbon emissions. But consensus on the nature and scope of the problem will dissipate, and fast, if experts try to obscure the fact that there’s much about the climate they still don’t know.

[Goes on to outline the UEACRU E-mail hacking scandal in some detail.]

It would be great if this were all a big misunderstanding. But we know carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas, and we know the planet is hotter than it was a century ago. The skeptics might have convinced each other, but so far they haven’t gotten through to the vanishing polar ice.

Yep. There’s that “denier” word again coming from the mouth of a denier. It doesn’t get funnier than that. And you’ve got to love Mr. Robinson’s flippant comment about melting polar ice caps. This is especially humorous since researchers have shown that the volume of the polar ice caps stabilized in 2007 and has been expanding ever since. In his opinion piece, Mr. Robinson also declares that “climate science is fiendishly hard” to study. Well, no kidding. But unicorn science is fiendishly hard to study, too…BECAUSE UNICORNS DON’T EXIST ANY MORE THAN ANTHROPOGENIC GLOBAL WARMING DOES!

Yes, it’s problematic to study something that simply isn’t there, isn’t it?

But let’s name a few of the other dupes that got sucked into believing the AGW myth, shall we?

Barack Obama

Just about all of the members of the Obama administration (most notably the eco-fascist Carol Browner)

Gordon Brown

Tony Blair

Angela Merkel

Nicolas Sarkozy

The European Union

The United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)

Many members of the U.S. House of Representatives

Many members of the U.S. Senate (to include John McCain)

ABC

NBC (see: General Electric)

CBS

MSNBC (see: General Electric)

CNN

BBC

PBS

The New York Times

The Washington Post

The San Francisco Chronicle

The Los Angeles Times

Too many other U.S. newspapers to count

Too many U.S. corporations to enumerate

I didn’t mention Al Gore because he’s among the “dupers,” not among the ”dupes.” He’s just one of the dudes making hundreds of millions of dollars off of the global warming hysteria scam.

Actually, the list of dupes goes on and on and on and I don’t have time to list them all. But the scariest dupes of all are the ones who are supposed to report the news and keep the public informed (see all of the television networks and newspapers above). Most of the news sources listed above are being notoriously silent about the ClimateGate scandal. This in itself is terribly insidious, given the fact that the Obama administration and the Democratic majority in Congress seem intent on foisting a cap and tax scheme on the American people that will greatly damage businesses in the United States and increase energy costs for all.

Yet, the mainstream media, cognizant of its humiliatingly supine complicity in an apparent world-wide con scheme, remains silent. They are worthless now. They have been worthless.

And now we hear that President Obama, despite the revelation of the UEACRU E-mail and document disclosure, intends to attend next month’s climate summit in Copenhagen anyway, where he intends to promise that he will commit America to reducing greenhouse gas emissions while at the same time forfeiting transferring billions of American taxpayer dollars to an apparently fraudulent international carbon blackmail tax scheme.

Good luck, Mr. Obama. We’re watching you.

The American public is watching you.

As an aside, I wonder if Mr. Obama and his family will watch “The Day After Tomorrow” on DVD this weekend. Maybe it will help build up his courage to travel to Denmark and betray the American people.

Note

Some of the bloggers at the Telegraph have, indeed, been covering the CRU E-mail story. Here’s Gerald Warner:

At the more domestic level, the proposed ban on incandescent light bulbs, so supinely accepted in this servile state of Britain, is now provoking a huge backlash in America. US citizens do not like the government coming into their houses and putting their lights out. Voters may not understand the cut and thrust of climate debate at the technical level, but they know when the Man from Washington has crossed their threshold uninvited.

The term that Fox News is now applying to the Climategate e-mails is “game-changer”. For the first time, Anthropogenic Global Warming cranks are on the defensive, losing their cool and uttering desperate mantras such as “You can be sceptical, not denial.” Gee, thanks, guys. In fact we shall be whatever we want to be, without asking your permission.

Good to see a Brit taking a position on this travesty. James Delingpole (from the same paper) has been doing superb work, too (actually, it’s been Delingbore–as some of Delingpoles’s detractors call him–who has done the yeoman’s work on this story at the Telegraph). Well done, Sir!

Not Evil Just Wrong is a documentary that will showing on October 18, 2009 at Washington University In St. Louis. It is trying to be the largest opening release by making release packs available for $30 on the internet. It is a counter to “An Inconvenient Truth,” the famous documentary by Al Gore. It also deals with other issues, namely the banning of DDT. The general theme seems to be this– global climate change isn’t happening, it would be okay if global climate change did happen, and the media is trying to trick you into freaking out.

Let’s start with the most easily refuted claim. This isn’t proclaimed outright in the trailer but it has been mentioned by the writers/directors elsewhere since the announcement of the movie. They claim that the ban on DDT was the result of hysterical environmentalists. What it does not consider is that DDT contributes to cancer of the everything. I know that that is a Wikipedia article, but you can check the citations (they are abundant and accurate). DDT was banned because it is horribly destructive to human beings. They claim that it would prevent malaria worldwide, but mosquitoes are increasingly resistant to DDT. This claim is horribly disingenuous and any credibility this film hopes to have are extinguished here.

So, let’s do a point-by-point refutation of the movie. 0:00-0:31 is just clips of scientists saying that global climate change is real and fixing this ecological crisis “won’t be easy.” Won’t be easy? Then it’s evil!

0:31 is where the bold text comes in. “BUT NOW FOR THE FIRST TIME, SCIENTISTS, MEDIA, AND ORDINARY PEOPLE ARE SPEAKING OUT.” It then shows a beach that was probably kept from being ruined by ecological conservation groups. Clean water and whatnot. At 0:45, a “scientist” claims that it would actually be a good thing for the earth to warm up and that “ice is the enemy of life.” It just showed pictures of polar bears in the opening! Polar ice cap melting poses an immediate threat to polar bears. How can they deny this?

The statement at 0:50 is ludicrous. Al Gore doesn’t claim that sea levels are going to rise 30ft in the near future. It’s really that simple. The guy talking calls this a “Very disturbing misstatement of the science.” I can’t help but agree.

At 1:05, the man says “the 21st century is not the warmest the Earth has been in the last thousand years.” I wonder where his “scientific data to show for it” is. This chart begs to differ:

Then, at 1:12, comes some alarmism of their very own. They talk to average people with country accents, like you and me. Because these type of people know enough about geology and meteorology to make cogent arguments about global climate change. The everyman basically claims that fixing our effect on the global environment will cost people their jobs in pollutant factories. Even if that were true, would it matter?

That much is true; the changes our society would have to undergo if global climate change is occurring would be drastic, e pur si muove! The fact that global climate change is happening has nothing to do with how it will effect the common man.

The trailer proclaims in bold font: “THEY WANT TO RAISE OUR TAXES. THEY WANT TO CLOSE OUR FACTORIES.” Then the man on the screen proclaims that “Hundreds of billions of people will die!” Hundreds of billions! That’s more people than there are people! “Al Gore needsta go on about his bidniss somewhurs else.” “They want to go back to the Dark Ages and the black plague!” It keeps going. I can’t even believe that they have the audacity to claim these things. Surely no one on the fence about this issue will buy into those claims.

If you attend WashU, please publicly state your opinion on this bit of garbage. I know it is the right of the WashU students for Liberty to show this, but it any dissenter’s duty to criticize this movie at every point. Global warming should not be a political issue. Scientists do not disagree that global warming is happening and that people are at least partially to blame. This knowledge will keep us from destroying ourselves and the earth along with us.

In what organizers said was a rarity, Gore took half a dozen questions from journalists, including one from Phelim McAleer, an Irish filmmaker who asked Gore to address nine errors in his film identified by a British court in 2007.

The judge declined to ban the Academy Award-winning film from British schools, but ruled that it can only be shown with guidance notes to prevent political indoctrination.

In the documentary, directed by Davis Guggenheim, the former US vice president and environmental activist calls on people to fight global warming because “humanity is sitting on a ticking time bomb”.

But Judge Michael Burton ruled yesterday that errors had arisen “in the context of alarmism and exaggeration” in order to support Mr Gore’s thesis on global warming.

His criticism followed an unsuccessful attempt by Stewart Dimmock, a Kent school governor, to block the Government’s plan to screen the documentary in more than 3,500 secondary schools in England and Wales.

The father of two claimed An Inconvenient Truth included “serious scientific inaccuracies, political propaganda and sentimental mush”.

The film’s distributor, Paramount, warns in its synopsis of the film: “If the vast majority of the world’s scientists are right, we have just ten years to avert a major catastrophe that could send our entire planet into a tail-spin of epic destruction involving extreme weather, floods, droughts, epidemics and killer heat waves beyond anything we have ever experienced.”

But the judge ruled that the “apocalyptic vision” presented in the film was politically partisan and thus not an impartial scientific analysis of climate change.

It is, he ruled, a “political film”.

The nine alleged errors in the film

   1. Mr Gore claims that a sea-level rise of up to 20 feet would be caused by melting of either West Antarctica or Greenland “in the near future”. The judge said: “This is distinctly alarmist and part of Mr Gore’s “wake-up call”. He agreed that if Greenland melted it would release this amount of water – “but only after, and over, millennia”.”The Armageddon scenario he predicts, insofar as it suggests that sea level rises of seven metres might occur in the immediate future, is not in line with the scientific consensus.”

   2. The film claims that low-lying inhabited Pacific atolls “are being inundated because of anthropogenic global warming” but the judge ruled there was no evidence of any evacuation having yet happened.

   3. The documentary speaks of global warming “shutting down the Ocean Conveyor” – the process by which the Gulf Stream is carried over the North Atlantic to western Europe. Citing the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the judge said that it was “very unlikely” that the Ocean Conveyor, also known as the Meridional Overturning Circulation, would shut down in the future, though it might slow down.

   4. Mr Gore claims that two graphs, one plotting a rise in C02 and the other the rise in temperature over a period of 650,000 years, showed “an exact fit”. The judge said that, although there was general scientific agreement that there was a connection, “the two graphs do not establish what Mr Gore asserts”.

   5. Mr Gore says the disappearance of snow on Mt Kilimanjaro was directly attributable to global warming, but the judge ruled that it scientists have not established that the recession of snow on Mt Kilimanjaro is primarily attributable to human-induced climate change.

   6. The film contends that the drying up of Lake Chad is a prime example of a catastrophic result of global warming but the judge said there was insufficient evidence, and that “it is apparently considered to be far more likely to result from other factors, such as population increase and over-grazing, and regional climate variability.”

   7. Mr Gore blames Hurricane Katrina and the consequent devastation in New Orleans on global warming, but the judge ruled there was “insufficient evidence to show that”.

   8. Mr Gore cites a scientific study that shows, for the first time, that polar bears were being found after drowning from “swimming long distances – up to 60 miles – to find the ice” The judge said: “The only scientific study that either side before me can find is one which indicates that four polar bears have recently been found drowned because of a storm.”That was not to say there might not in future be drowning-related deaths of bears if the trend of regression of pack ice continued – “but it plainly does not support Mr Gore’s description”.

   9. Mr Gore said that coral reefs all over the world were being bleached because of global warming and other factors. Again citing the IPCC, the judge agreed that, if temperatures were to rise by 1-3 degrees centigrade, there would be increased coral bleaching and mortality, unless the coral could adapt. However, he ruled that separating the impacts of stresses due to climate change from other stresses, such as over-fishing, and pollution was difficult.

A Government spokesman said he would not make any further comment on the case today.

You do not matter in schools. ? How? Let me tell you a few stories. ********************************

You do not matter in schools.

?

How?

Let me tell you a few stories.

*****************************************

My senior year in high school, I had an AP Literature and Composition teacher.

She was one of those teachers who loved to brag about how she hated computers and would not use them, and was always giving us spiels about how paper and things with locks on them are the only trustable equipment.

Granted, that class had nothing to do with modernism or keeping up with a progressively advanced society, but it’s probably not the best position to teach 21st century high schoolers if you think iPods are the devil.

That class had a simple existence: Read a book and write what you thought it meant.

But.

That teacher had a simple way of alternatively directing it: Read a book and write what she (and others she agrees with) thought it meant, and/or how it shows that women have been oppressed for years.

Oh yeah.

Feminists with degrees in literature are scary, because you can show them almost any written material, and they can show you right back how it degrades and makes inhuman the vaginal species, or puts them on a pedestal and brilliantly proves their value and importance.

(Notice how Hop on Pop has no motherly figure in it?

Perhaps that explains the violent “hopping,” which Pop neglects to put an end to?)

And so, when anyone presented a possiblility for the potential meaning of a work of poetry or prose other than that it was written to sell or increase fame, which is the truth 99% of the time…

(You do realize Shakespeare was rich, right?

The J.K. Rowling of his time.)

… It was always brutally shot down, with a snooty shake of the head, complete with an upturned nose and a flaunt of the shoulder pads.

And so, education was made a farce.

***

Shortly thereafter:

A teacher, whom I cannot describe in further detail in fear of my own academic safety, teaches a class.

The class has a simple premise: You pick a topic for the semester, and provide your own hypothesis and research for that topic.

The teacher had a simple way of teaching it: THE WORLD IS GOING TO WASTE, STUPID HUMANS ARE ALL GOING TO DIE, AND IF I DON’T PRETEND I’M HARDCORE AND MEAN, YOU ALL WILL NOT LISTEN TO ME!

Presented in a bumbling, aloof old lady format.

[insert time span] consisted of her telling us that people don’t wash their hands and therefore will constantly get sick…

People use up so many resources that the world is going to wear away…

“I’m tough and won’t take late work/tardies/absences/people not paying attention, so I’m going to act like you college students have not had about 20 professors just like me.”

It’s impossible.

So many stupid people (cough liberals?) in the world.

It’s not a shock, after a couple years of stupid, biased teachers like these, who don’t see the bigger picture because they’re obsessed with the big picture.

***************

OK.

So:

Free healthcare.

Morons.

You all say that people are dying because they can’t pay for healthcare.

So…

The solution is to pay taxes to cover for it?

You do realize that people lose their homes because they can’t afford to pay their taxes?

And that homeless people die because they can’t afford homes?

Oh!

Solution!

Free homes.

And so we don’t starve:

Free food.

And so we don’t lose jobs because we can’t compete on the job market:

Free college educations.

And so our babies can live comfortably:

Free frickin’ baby powder.

Does that sound good to you?

I bet it does.

************************

No wonder Michael Moore chose this time to make and release anti-capitalism faux-documentaries.

You people will lap it up.

And guess what?

Michael Moore will get rich.

Funny how that works.

******************************

It is impossible to escape the essential concept of capitalism, and sociology:

There is no such thing as a free lunch.

If you ask a friend to buy you lunch, you owe him.

If you dig through the garbage, you degrade yourself.

If you steal, you sin and degrade yourself and commit a crime.

If you share, you don’t eat enough.

There is always a price to pay.

So:

There is no such thing as free healthcare.

If it goes to taxes, other people will become broke, and your precious “economy” will falter.

If it simply goes to the doctors, those professionals cannot work, since they would not make money to keep themselves in shape.

If the government pays for it, they will have to take money from somewhere else.

If the government just makes more money, they will imbalance the economy.

If we outsource, American medical school graduates will suffer and be crushed under their loans.

Et.

Cetera.

Ya’ll have made Obama nervous, which is why he’s now saying “affordable healthcare,” and not “free.”

Because “affordable” is probably possible, and slightly smarter.

But anyway.

******************

I don’t like alarmist teachers.

…

…

…

…

…

Yeah.

DEET is the gold standard for insect repellent. I’ve covered it fairly extensively at the Bug

DEET is the gold standard for insect repellent. I’ve covered it fairly extensively at the Bug Blog–it’s the best thing we have to prevent a wide spectrum of insects from biting and transmitting an even wider spectrum of diseases.

So…Sigh.
Some new DEET research was published this month, and the media…well, has done a crappy job of covering it. Here’s the latest headline: Insect Repellent DEET is Neurotoxic.

One thing all the news stories have in common is a very alarmist tone, and reprinting freely from a press release that has very little connection to the reality of the paper. When you look at the research, they did NOT find that DEET is neurotoxic, and it does NOT cause nerve damage.

Here’s the take home:

If you decide not to use DEET insect repellent on the basis of this bad journalism, you are probably putting yourself in danger. DEET is really the only repellent we have that can deal with ticks, and also protects against a wide range of biting flies.

The results in this paper are preliminary, need to be confirmed, and even IF confirmed, remain irrelevant to the average person who might want to use DEET.

Right, that’s the message.
Now to the details.

Here is what the researchers ACTUALLY found:

Corbel, V., Stankiewicz, M., Pennetier, C., Fournier, D., Stojan, J., Girard, E., Dimitrov, M., Molgo, J., Hougard, J., & Lapied, B. (2009). Evidence for inhibition of cholinesterases in insect and mammalian nervous systems by the insect repellent deet BMC Biology, 7 (1) DOI: 10.1186/1741-7007-7-47

“electrophysiological studies were performed on isolated mouse phrenic hemidiaphragm muscles. We showed that 500 µM deet prolonged by about threefold the decay time constant of synaptic potentials on endplate regions of the muscle fibre…”

Wha? Ah.
Here’s a translation into English (by me):

We put DEET directly onto mouse cells and insect neurons in test tubes. It had a mild inhibitory effect on an important enzyme. The amount of DEET we used on mouse cells was 500 times the level that was active for insect cells. The amounts we used were several orders of magnitude larger than you would ever encounter in life as a human user of DEET repellent.

The best breakdown of this story I’ve seen yet was at Neuroskeptic. In fact, Neuroskeptic saved me a whole lot of time and work by writing an excellent article that I will now swipe here and quote freely:

“the fact that DEET can act as a cholinesterase inhibitor in the lab changes nothing. It’s still safe, at least until evidence comes along that it actually causes harm in people who use it. You can’t show that something is harmful by doing an experiment showing how it could be harmful in theory.”

This paper, when combined with decades of DEET usage data with very, very few adverse affects reported, is really not news at all. It’s interesting, sure. But it’s not at all relevant to the average American trying not to be bitten while BBQing.

I also agree with this statement from Neuroskeptic:

“To be fair, there is one cause for concern in the paper – in the experiments, DEET interacted with other cholinesterase inhibitors, leading to an amplified effect. That suggests that DEET could become toxic in combination with cholinesterase inhibitor insecticides, but again, the risk is theoretical.”

In some situations, DEET is combined with other compounds that it could, potentially, interact with–but that almost never happens in the US. Those situations are more common in military and tropical uses. This is a good note to be careful, and to monitor that in the future. There is also some (laboratory) evidence that sunscreen can increase absorption of DEET, and the two should be combined with caution.

If you are using DEET sensibly, you have nothing to worry about.
What is sensible DEET use? Borrowing from The American Pediatric Society, as well as my own experience:

Do not use DEET under clothing. Put it ON your clothing.

Do not use DEET on the hands of young children; avoid applying to areas around the eyes and mouth.

Do not use DEET over cuts, wounds or irritated skin. Wash treated skin with soap and water after returning indoors; wash treated clothing.

Avoid spraying in enclosed areas; do not use DEET near food.

20% DEET is enough for nearly all US situations. You can buy higher concentrations, but don’t.

Don’t spray DEET on spandex (it’s a long story, but trust me. This won’t end well for you)

Don’t drink, smoke, or otherwise do butt-stupid things with DEET. It’s safe, but only if you play by the rules.

The modest global warming trend has stopped – maybe even reversed itself.

And it’s not just the record low temperatures experienced in much of the world this winter.

For at least the last five years, global temperatures have been falling, according to tracking performed by Roy Spencer, the climatologist formerly of NASA.

“Global warming” was going to bring more and more horrific hurricanes, climate change scientists and the politicians who subscribed to their theories said. But since 2005, only one major hurricane has struck North America.

A new study by Florida State University researcher Ryan Maue shows worldwide cyclone activity – typhoons, as well as hurricanes – has reached at least a 30-year low.

Two more studies – one by the Leibniz Institute of Marine Science and the Max Planck Institute of Meteorology in Germany and another by the University of Wisconsin – predict a slowing, or even a reversal of warming, for at least the next 10 to 20 years.

The Arctic sea ice has grown more on a percentage basis this winter than it has since 1979.

The number of polar bears has risen 25 percent in the past decade. There are 15,000 of them in the Arctic now, where 10 years ago there were 12,000.

“The most recent global warming that began in 1977 is over, and the Earth has entered a new phase of global cooling,” says Don Easterbrook, professor of geology at Western Washington University in Bellingham, confidently. He maintains a switch in Pacific Ocean currents “assures about three decades of global cooling. New solar data showing unusual absence of sun spots and changes in the sun’s magnetic field suggest … the present episode of global cooling may be more severe than the cooling of 1945 to 1977.”

Climatologist Joe D’Aleo of the International Climate and Environmental Change Assessment Project, says new data “show that in five of the last seven decades since World War II, including this one, global temperatures have cooled while carbon dioxide has continued to rise.”

“The data suggest cooling not warming in Earth’s future,” he says.

Dear Flaco,

Awesome.

So, when experts in 1988 claim that the temperate in 2008 is going to be .5 C higher, we should just never check up on them, right? We should just say, WOW! And then faint. Wake up and elect Obama. God forbid that people would actually capture the prediction, then, ya know, record the actual temperature, and then – SHOCKER – compare them to see if this expert knows what the fuck he is talking about?

Nah. Let’s elect Obama instead.

Truth and facts never enter the liberal mind!

And now Molly. Tragic story. Really is. And I feel bad for a 22 year old kid tryin’ to make it saddled with 9 large in debt.

However, giving me a story of one girl doesn’t change cold hard facts:

Health or medical care is limited

We need/want more of it than can be supplied

It must be rationed

When that rationing method is price, it leads to lower prices and more availability

Serious. Stop sending me this minor league business. Give me facts.

Former astronaut Harrison Schmitt, who walked on the moon and once served New Mexico in the U.S. Senate, doesn’t believe that humans are causing global warming.

“I don’t think the human effect is significant compared to the natural effect,” said Schmitt, who is among 70 skeptics scheduled to speak next month at the International Conference on Climate Change in New York.

Schmitt contends that scientists “are being intimidated” if they disagree with the idea that burning fossil fuels has increased carbon dioxide levels, temperatures and sea levels.

Dear Flaco, I trust that you are doing well. That you are enjoying life on the left coast. As we c

Dear Flaco,

I trust that you are doing well. That you are enjoying life on the left coast. As we continue to struggle with housing prices, unemployment and the economy in general, there are some things that we are finding to be rather enjoyable. Of the few, I would list the current price for a gallon of gas the most enjoyable and the most significant. Having been just north of $4, I literally smile and chuckle as I fuel up for the cheap [serious, this gas is cheap]. And this is good news, not just for me on a personal level, but for all of us. Cheaper fuel means cheaper goods, at least to a degree.

But now we are hearing that the Democratic controlled lawmakers are considering taxing gasoline; perhaps not insignificantly. Add this cost to the already imbedded artficial cost of “Global Warming” and you have perhaps the single larget cause of global hunger. It seems there’s no end to the lengths people are willing to go to “fix” something that really isn’t broken.

So, the Democrats are considering taxing gasoline until we we choke because they fear Global Warming; the end of the world as we know it. And when asked why they think that we are facing “The End of the World as We Know it”, they shrug and point to The Oracle of Delphi, Al Gore. When asked to present data, they can’t. In fact, when asked to present a trend that shows we are warming, they can’t.

For example:

The world is cooling. 2008 is the coldest of the century.

Sea ice levels continue to grow. The arctic is growing,or at least no longer shrinking.

More and more, the “experts” supporting Global Warming are thinning.

The data used to support Global Warming is more and more coming into question.

As I have mention time and time again, we should make sure that whatever we do in our lives and to our planet, we should do well; we should be good stewards. On the other hand, there is no reason whatsoever to feel that we need to undertake expensive and dangerous policies to prevent a catastrophy that is a fairy tale.

How expensive is this story going to be?

Regards,
