A while ago I sat down and braided three black alcantara bands together and added some cute pedants to the creation. A toggle clasp on it et voilà!

I know you can’t see it on the pictures but the pedants all have a picture of a blonde girl with flowers in her hair. Very cute. And yes, I stole all of them, now we only have pictures of mad angels spanking each other with brooms and stuff left in the store. Moahahahaha!

Rússia e a Índia vão cooperar no desenvolvimento de armas modernas

Comité técnico para a cooperação militar Rússia Índia aprovou minuta de acordo para que ambos os países desenvolvam conjuntamente helicópteros, veículos blindados e um caça de quinta geração, disseram fontes do Ministério da Defesa da Rússia. Quanto especificamente as questões ligadas ao desenvolvimento conjunto do caça multifuncional (quinta geração) os detalhes serão definidos ate o final do ano.

Os dois países também pretendem assinar em dezembro acordos intergovernamentais de cooperação técnica militar para 2011-2020 e assistência pós-venda de material russo fornecido à Índia. Segundo informações, as partes estão interessados em submeter-se a modernização o equipamento militar russo fornecido anteriormente à Índia, incluindo os caças MiG-27 e Su-30MKI caças, carros de combate T-72M1 e T-90S e transporte de pessoal infantaria BMP-2.

Por seu turno, o chefe de departamento militar russo, Anatoly Serdiukov salientou que a assinatura de acordos intergovernamentais constituirão um marco comercial entre os dois países e o ato deverá ocorrer durante a visita a Moscou do primeiro-ministro indiano, Manmohan Singh, o que deve ocorrer em dezembro de 2009.

Foi reorganizado o material das autárquicas de Lisboa, de modo a que não haja muita informação pesada numa só nota. Toda a informação respeitante às freguesias será agora aqui concentrada. No futuro ,com a acumulação de novos materiais, é provável que ainda seja subdividida por força política ou por freguesia. Depois se verá.

Si potrebbe quasi definirlo un felice feuilleton questo ampio romanzo, ambientato nel Brasile dei giorni nostri, e nell’Europa dilaniata dalla guerra dei Trent’anni, vista attraverso la figura di Athanasius Khirchner, l’eclettico gesuita inventore del microscopio, anticipatore dell’egittologia, grande erudito, che compare tra le pagine del libro grazie ad una ricerca condotta sulla sua figura.
Un romanzo che ha catturato il favore dei lettori e dei critici (Prix Medicis e altri )con i suoi personaggi buoni e cattivi, per le sue pagine ora tragiche, ora comiche, per l’erudizione e la capacità di non abbandonarsi ad essa. E per i suoi protagonisti, eroi moderni di un Brasile in rapido mutamento.

Historical center of São Luis

São Luis, the capital of Maranhão is a gateway to the wonders of the state. Nowadays the principal attraction of Maranhão is the national park of Lencois Maranhenses, which is located only 3-4 hours drive from São Luis. However if you arrive to São Luis, it’s worth stopping here for few days before heading to another destinations of the state. The state capital, that in fact is located on an island, has cultural value, an enchanting history and turns out to be an interesting place to start exploring the attractions of the region.

Streets of São Luis

The main attraction of the city is the culture based on history and interesting architectural facts. Therefore we recommend you to stay overnight at the historical center of São Luis in stead of searching for accommodation from the beach side. The advantage of staying at the center is that you can explore a big part of the sights by walk, feel the spirit of the colonial era and enjoy the atmospheare of the squares with bars and restaurants at the night time. São Luis is famous for its’ buildings covered with colorful “azulejo” tiles brought from Portugal during the glory days of the colonial era. Due to the historical facades with azulejos the center of São Luis is part of the Unesco World Heritage sights as well. Some of the building are in better conditions than others, but the most important thing is that the value of these historical treasures has been recognized and hopefully during the coming years most of them will restored.

Streets of Alcântara

Once you are in São Luis a day trip to Alcântara is a must do. Alcântara is a small historic island just a short boat or catamaran drive away from São Luis. The vessels leave from the port right in front of the historical center and transport you to the island of Alcântara in about one hour. If you are travelling from July till December, when it wind is at its’ strongers, be prepared! The sea can be pretty rough causing nausea especially in the late afternoon when returning back to São Luis. Such as in case of São Luis, the main attraction of Alcântara is the history as well. When you walk along the streets of this tiny village somehow you will get a feeling that time has stopped moving, the laidback atmospheare and the tranquility of the old days are present even today. The attractions of Alcântara are located in a raither small area so it can easily be explored by foot. Walk on the streets, enjoy the atmospheare with colonial buildings and reach the square, where the ruins of the church of Matriz, a former prison and other historical sights can be found. If possible hire a local guide, so that you will get the maximum out of your visit and learn why the esclavitud has had such a big role in the history of Alcântara. If you have extra time during your visit to Alcântara, or if you decide to stay over night on the island, an another interesting place to visit the is the nearby island of Cajual with historical fossils. Some of these fossils has also been found from Africa, proving that long time ago there was just one continent. In the middle of the historical sights, there is something surprisingly modern in Alcântara as well. A space station located on the island is not really visible for an ordinary tourist, but the museum is open for public and is an interesting place to visit if you are into space science.

São Luis is located at the coastline of Atlantic Ocean, but isn’t really a beach destination. However, if you are willing to stop by at the beach during your stay in São Luis, choose Cunhau, the best beach of the city. This wide beach is located just a short drive from the center, and has a lot of infrastructure with beach bars and restaurants. The color of the water is not spectacularly blue, but the beach works for anyone who is willing to have a relaxing day while staying in São Luis. In the evenings, enjoy the squares of the historical center or dine in one of the restaurants located at the margins of Lake Jansen.

Yesterday was a great day. I spent a good portion of it in the vineyard, picking merlot grapes at Alcantara Vineyard and Winery.  The small, handcrafted batches that this superb winery produces is among the pleasures I will now include in my life.  I’ve not been a wine drinker up until now. I wasn’t willing to spend the money that is recommended for a good bottle, so I missed what this experience should be: delightful and luxurious.  I may not drink wine everyday, but when I do drink it from now on it will be the best I can afford. I am converted to the cause.

At the close of the day, and after picking countless bunches of these beautiful, blueberry like fruits, several of us came in and enjoyed a glass of wine while the clouds darkened overhead and thunderclaps sounded in the distance.  This environment was like being in Tuscany…almost. Granted, it’s Arizona and it’s high desert. Still, the feel of the building and the zeal of these people for what they do is contagious. This winery is owned and operated by people doing what they’re passionate about, and it increases the enjoyment of their wine because it has helped them to create something of great quality. It is a characteristic worth emulating.

Because this winery is small and has grafted itself into this high desert community, they put out a call for volunteers to come out and help get in the harvest. The reward is wine at the day’s end and the satisfaction of contributing to what will become a first class, beautiful and living Merlot wine.  The production is small enough that they have been known to run out. This is a rare treat, drinking the wine of Alcantara. You won’t find it on grocery store shelves, and it is never diluted for the sake of mass production. 

The day before, my friend and I had gone into the tasting room and found a deck complete with beautiful views and the bonus of an afternoon rain. It was breezy and lazy, the wine was perfect. In the course of our stay there the owner announced the beginning of the merlot harvest and “invited” us to come and help. It was an offer we couldn’t refuse, and I’m so glad I didn’t. My hands were hurting and my back a little sore, but still…I would not have missed it. The sense of comraderie and community while out there was very satisfying. The aromas, the authenticity of this experience and the very real sense of achievement all combined to make a most perfect day.

If you get the chance to work a harvest in a vineyard, do so. This isn’t machine harvesting. Human hands have touched these grapes and the product will show it. This is art, and love, and winemaking at it’s best.

Tools:

1. Angle grinder with grinding wheel
2. Rotary tool with many cutting wheels (Dremel)
3. BFH … the H stands for hammer
4. Safety goggles
5. A bench vise is really useful

The first thing you have to do is get your hands on a set of EP3 seats.  Turn it over so the rails are facing up.  You are gonna cut off all the brackets (the parts that bolt to the floor).  Now use your rotary tool and cutting wheels to cut through each bracket’s welds.  The brackets still won’t come off because there’s a metal rivet holding it to the rail.  You don’t need these brackets so grind these off in way you can but be careful not to mangle the rails.  Once you’re done it should look like this.

Now you need a set of EK brackets.  I went to the junkyard and ripped a set of EK seat rails from a junker.  Unfortunately I don’t have any pictures of this part but I basically put the EK rails in a benchvise and carefully did the same process of cutting the welds, grinding off the rivets and popping off the EK brackets with the hammer.  I’ll say it again, be careful with this process because you need the brackets only, not the rails.  You’re going to use these brackets to mount on the EP3 seats.

Unless you’re a welder this is the part where you have to pay someone to weld the brackets to your EP3 rails.  Be sure to go to someone good, remember SAFETY FIRST.  If you’re in a collision you don’t want your seat to fly through the windshield with you in it.  You want a quality and beefy weld like these ones.

Once that’s done bolt them up to your car good and they’ll look like this.

Cleaning:

In terms of cleaning Alcantara / Microsuede, I found out that a good way is to do a 10 part water, 1 part Woolite solution in a cup.  Then take a microfiber cloth, dab it into the solution and rub the Alcantara.  Don’t saturate it, if it gets too wet dab it off with a dry microfiber cloth.

The centre sections, where you sit, aren’t Alcantara so I used a small steam / water vacuum thing to get the dirt out.

Nem lesz könnyű dolga, mert három alapjátékosát kell nélkülöznie: Dani piros lap miatt nem léphet gyepre, Culio és Cadu pedig a szuperkupa döntőjén bemutatott romboló játék miatt nem játszhat.

Adj egy tippet a mesternek! Bár nem fogja ő elolvasni, de kíváncsiak vagyunk, mi a véleményed az idei felhozatalról, kiket részesítenél előnyben a bukarestiek ellen.

After much internet researching and hard work I’ve finally been able to transplant 2003 Honda Civic SIR EP3 (Canadian model) seats into my 2000 Civic Si EK (also a Canadian model).  This will work with EP3 and RSX seats into a EK, so use this reference for both.

First off, here is a handy reference of what seats do and do not fit into an EK:

GSR Fronts (94-01) 3 of the 4 bolts fit, just swap the inner rails from stock seats to make all 4 fit.
GSR Fronts (90-93) DO NOT FIT WITHOUT HEAVY MODIFICATION
RSX Fronts – Fit, BUT WITH MODIFICATION to the brackets that bolt into the floor (you have to break the rivits/welds and put the brackets NOT THE RAILS the brackets from your stock seats on the RSX seats)

Before you buy the RSX or EP3 seats you need to know what you’re getting into.  From a high-level what you need to do is remove the brackets from the EP3 seat (not the rails) but cut through the welds and break the rivets.  By bracket, we mean the 4 metal parts that bolt to the floor of your car, not the sliders/rails.  You don’t need the brackets so feel free to destroy them.  Secondly, from your EK seats you must carefully remove the brackets (again, the 4 metal parts that bolt to the floor) … you will need these brackets so be careful with them.  The final step is to weld the EK brackets onto the rails/sliders of the EP3 seats.  Are you willing to take the plunge?

Review:

WARNING!!  Before we get into it, these seats will SIT HIGHER than your stock EK seats.  Maybe 1-2 inches but it’s enough for my hair to now touch the sunroof headliner part and I’m only 5′6″.  If you have longer legs the seat will push back further and slightly lower but be aware that this isn’t a Bride Lowmax seat … it’s high.  Maybe too high.

On the plus side the EP3 seats are very comfortable and hold you much better than the stock EK seats.  The Alcantara sides and the overall shape of the seats look much nicer and function much better.    As well you get OEM quality (no flimsy parts) and assuming the bracket welds are big and beefy, you get a very safe seat.  You also maintain your reclinability and the passenger seat has that little kick lever on the back to allow people in and out of the rear seats.

Performance-wise on the street in turns (legal speeds of course) I feel it’s a decent compromise from a fixed bucket or reclining aftermarket seat.  I haven’t taken the car to my local road-course track but I will and report my findings later.

Besides the height there are some minor tradeoffs.  Because you’re a little higher the shifter seems lower, so I’m thinking of going with a  higher shift knob.  And if you push the seat to as far forward as possible and fold the seat forward, the top of the seat hits the sunvisor.  That seems like a small thing but I thought I’d mention it.  Finally, the seats weigh a bit more than the stockers.  Maybe 5lbs but I didn’t put them on a scale, just from feel.

The Aston Martin V8 Vantage is one very beautiful car in my opinion although if I was left with a choice between that and say, the Vanquish, I would spring for the Vanquish faster than the flash. Thanks to the American tuner company; Elite Carbon Fiber, I may have to rethink that quick choice. As you can see, with Elite’s touch, the V8 Vantage is looking very spiffy. As most of you can probably tell by the company name, their goal for this Vantage was weight reduction. With the use of their carbon fiber in as many areas as possible they have been able to shed quite a few pounds off the Aston. This modified Vantage is titled; the Elite Aston Martin LMV/R which stands for Le Mans Vantage Racer. I know, they have made this Aston a very hot ride but all great things are hard to get and this is no exception. If you would like this car you better be ready to put up your fists and fight for it because only 30 will be made!

As it is quite evident most of the car has been outfitted with carbon fiber: The body kit, canards, splitters, hood, trunk and a modest but classy wing. Those big, spectacular wheels your looking at are 20′ matte black, wrapped in fat tires which compliment the carbon fiber wide body kit.

A few other goodies include; a big brake kit, springs, a full carbon fiber engine bay kit, full Alcantara interior and more.

My Thoughts: I think the Elites take on the Vantage looks great. They made it look more aggressive, and really gave the body more of a backbone. Not really any complaints here, except the wing, I think there are more fitting wings out there for this Aston but I digress. So now ask me; the Vanquish or the Elite Aston Martin LMV/R Vantage? Definitely makes the choice far more difficult but in the end, I’ll stick with the Vanquish and while I spring for it I’ll give a curious look toward the LMV/R wondering what could have been!
