before the holidays completely overwhelm me with laziness and before the year finally comes to a close, i would like to take a brief look back at the year that was incredible shoes.

the prevailing shoe trends of 2009:

designs at the back or the heels themselves
platforms to dizzying heights: either artistically rendered or hidden altogether

scales (or a simulation thereof)

alexander wang has a loyal following & seems to garner more fashion followers by the second. these images are said to be for the wang labels spring ad campaign; but wang himself has expressed an uninterest in purchasing ad pages. the images are speculated to be from the alexander wang lookbook since the wang brand likes to showcase an editorial edge with their books. the mystery images feature anja rubik, hanne gaby odiele, edita vilkeviciute, liu wen, mirte maas & jacqueline jablonski. the photographer of the images was not revealed but the images look amazing. very minimal & not too distracting from what is important in this set – the clothes. for me, sealing the deal for a campaign is to see the brands logo on them or to, of course, see the images in print. though not officially confirmed, most are leaning towards a yes to these as campaign images. time will reveal, if updated images, confirmed as campaign images, with logos  surface. i will be posting them. love this set & cast.

Call me a late bloomer but…

I’ve recently been noticing how much talent Alexander Wang really has and what’s he’s brought to the fashion table. He seems to have broken down what was once-too-masculine pieces of men’s shirts and pants by cutting them into strong yet feminine silhouettes that have much sex appeal.

His basic shirt line, T by Alexander Wang, seems to also be a staple with many fashionistas.

I love the way he sculptured the basic MAN-shirt without making it look like a generic, old, tight blouse it once turned into. He made them loose, flow~y, but kept that basic men’s button up look.

I ‘m going to a fancy dance extravaganza with friends and we all (even the boys) are stressing out about what to wear.

I thought I would do Santa a favor this year and make my Xmas wish list a little lighter on his wallet. Times are tough and money is tight which I’m sure is a  common sentiment this year. One of the things I put on my list were socks…..yes I know it sounds like a lame gift, but for those following the trends you know socks are really the thing to spice up spring looks. Socks are an easy way to what I love to do, take things I already own and reinvent or recombine them.  Another thing I love about adding socks is that it opens up footwear possibilities. We usually reserve opened-toed shoes for warmer weather but, by adding socks you can keep those little piggies nice and warm even on breezier days. And of course another bonus that can’t be overlooked, it makes shoes SO much more comfortable. Thank you fashion gods for blessing us with this one.

All of the above are from Alexander Wang’s ready-to-wear collection. Cotton socks with opened-toed shoes….I just love the sporty edge it adds to the femininity of these looks. BTW those sunglasses…..freakin’ awesome.

The looks here are from Burberry Prorsum ready-to-wear collection. Loving these scrunched-down, grey socks.

It’s impossible not to LOVE these sparkly, sheer socks from Christian Dior’s ready-to-wear collection. I want pairs in every color imaginable.

These sporty sock from Hermès ready-to-wear collection with the trim at the top matching them with the shoes and the rest of the look is a sweet little touch.

And last but certainly not least John Galliano’s ready-to-wear collection. beautiful colorful socks that add so much fun and life. The colors are so vibrant….not sure where I’m going to find them but I will scour the earth for these, well not really I’m a bit lazy. I’ve been souring the net but so far not having much luck.

If any one has any suggestion on great stores for sock shopping please let me know.

Another thought: this holiday season if you are planning on exchanging gifts with girlfriends you could all opt to do a sock gift exchange. My friends and I have decided to do an ornament exchange. Because it really is the thought that counts.

I love the elegance and sophistication of a draped skirt.  It can be a throwback to the ladylike fashion of the Mad Men era, or a modern twist on a mini.  Try a longer skirt in a neutral color (I’m loving shades of gray, slate, and mushroom right now) to keep the look appropriate for work.  Try a shorter style in a brighter color to liven up your look for a night out.  Pair them with anything from platform heels to riding boots, but stick to a sleek cut with a few strategically placed folds in the front for a flattering shape.  Avoid a skirt with drapes on the sides over your hips, this will make you look wider.

Get your culture on:  Did you know there is an Institute for Draped Clothes?  It exists for “the research, study, preservation, and promotion of draped clothing such as saris, belted plaids, Roman togas, sarongs, and other unstitched costumes found all over the world and history.”  Who knew?

It’s hard to believe it, but it is in fact already that time of year: the pre Fall shows (my favorite btw) have already begun. Fashion seems to be referencing late 90’s minimalism. It’s all very Calvuin Klein and Comme des  Garcons circa 1996, and I’m loving it. Nicolas Ghesquiere over at Balenciaga (the most important modern designer in my opinion) has yet to unroll the Fall 2010 welcome mat, so I am hesitant to make any official declaration for my “best of” pick. So far though, these are the looks that I am predicting we will be seeing a lot more of in 10 months time….

Alexander Wang is probably one of the more interesting designers of the past few years. The relaxed look of all his designs reflect an air of sophistication despite the ease and simplicity. The look for hair he chooses is no different, the look has been rightfully called the Alexander Wang braid. Obviously it’s not for me, but it sure is pretty. If you’ve attempted it already or going to, let me know because I want to snap a few photos of it; or more interestingly, if you’ve made it your own thing by modifying it to your own style.

Tips courtesy of the Fashion Bible:

1- Brush your hair until there are no knots.
2- Part your hair to the side and tease it a little bit.
3- start plating loose (not tight).
4- Any parts of hair that are hanging down, use bobby pins/clips to pin them back.
5- Use a small amount of hair spray/gel so it lasts longer.

I finally came back to a clean, dettol-smelling flat tonight! My heater’s working, no more dust and stuff. Rags are sparkling clean and bedsheets are changed. I know they’re such simple basic necessities but they made me soooo happy, especially after a week of no hot water and wet, gross bathroom floor!

I know it’s so silly but I’d been stressed and irritable for the past week and I just realised it’s cos of the faulty heater and lack of hot water. It’s so pathetic to wander from friend’s house to another so I can wash my hair in hot steaming water! So yes, hot water for showering is a NEED. Not a bag… Thank God it’s finally fixed just before the weather dips again into a range of 12 to 17 degree Celsius from tomorrow onwards. It’s 18 to 22 degree Celsius now.

And I know it’s a little embarrassing but I’m all packed for my SG/Bali trip! My flight’s not till Friday night but I’m JUST. SO. EXCITED. so I couldn’t wait. I’ve really waited for this vacation for ages, especially more so when I haven’t seen Matt and my family for 6 weeks now. Seth has already learnt to speak (and sing too! Sorta) so much in the mere weeks I was gone. I’ve got lots of catching up to do!

It also makes it easier since what I packed for SG and Bali are completely different to the wardrobe I’ll be wearing in the meantime in Hong Kong. No “damn, but I wanna wear this tomorrow” dilemma.

Anyway, it’s been a while since I last shopped so my eyes were getting a little ‘itchy’ so I went to find the Kate Spade bow ring that I really want, which was all sold out in HK!

Isn’t it the cutest little thing??? It’s just US$65 from Nordstorm but I thought it was too much hassle to purchase outside of the US! I wanted to ask Matt to hunt it for me in SG but he was like “huh, what’s Kate Spade?” Damn, I shall go on a quest for it when I’m back this weekend.

So I continued to browse through Nordstorm and there were so many items on sale…….

Including this Alexander Wang dress which I’ve been lusting after… It’s just about US$350 now!

Love love love the back. Oh yes, this dress totally just reminded me I ought to check out Actually… when I’m back in SG. I need (yes, this is a need too!) to see what new Fifth Avenue Shoe Repair stuff they got! The prices at I.T., which stocks the Swedish brand, are freaking exorbitant.

My eyes always are attracted to bright bold colors and lots of glitter and glam. Usually, in reading fashion magazines, these are the most expensive items on the page. my OMG I love it!!
