<p>A Unioeste <em>querida</em> tentou aumentar o nível da prova esse ano, o que resultou em questões de física e química com dificuldade de segunda fase, uma prova de biologia totalmente monótona e sem nexo &#8211; nem falaram de Darwin <img src='http://s.wordpress.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_sad.gif' alt=':-(' class='wp-smiley' />  -, provas desleixadas e vários comentários sobre anulação de questões.</p>
<p>→ Primeiro ato: chegando ao local de prova.</p>
<p>Sábado, véspera, ponhei o celular pra dispertar às 5:30 de domingo, isso porque eu tinha ido dormir às 9:00 pm. O maldito não dispertou, ou dispertou e eu não acordei, só sei que acordei SEIS E DEZ, com meu pai me chamando. Não deu pra ler meus resumos e entrei no carro em estado de <strong>zumbi</strong>. Saí sem tomar café, lá pelas 6:40,  faminto e com vontade de deitar no sofá pra assistir TV, rs.</p>
<p>→ Segundo ato: o local de prova.</p>
<p>O clima na Unioeste era de azaração. Brimks. Tinha gente do Alfa, do Ideal, do Positivo e do inferno lá na frente. Aí rola aquele clima de intimidação por parte dos alunos, um tentando parecer mais inteligente que o outro, comentando em voz alta sobre assuntos diversos. Eu levei meu resuminho de Geopolítica e escorei num canto lá, numa última tentativa de somar umas questões a mais em geografia. Nem tava tão nervoso, só sentia um leve desconforto, acho que era sono mesmo.</p>
<p>→ Terceiro ato: a prova.</p>
<p>Entrei naquela sala pequena e claustrofóbica que me colocaram, guardei minha pulseira dentro da sacolinha tosca da unioeste e relaxei. Olhei pra janela e, em seguida, pro relógio; faltavam uns 40 minutos pra prova começar. Baixei a cabeça na mesa e fiquei olhando pro chão. Meu estômago amigo começou com suas façanhas, naturalmente. Como numa crise de existência ele começou a chamar minha atenção, fazendo me lembrar que ele existe. Mas não só isso, lembrar também que me odeia e que estava a fim de me matar num refluxo gastroesofágico demoníaco. Senti o poder do ácido clorídrico pH=2 superconcentrado 8 mols/L.<a href="http://pleasestopcallingme.wordpress.com/files/2009/11/stomach1.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-14" title="stomach" src="http://pleasestopcallingme.wordpress.com/files/2009/11/stomach1.jpg" alt="" width="480" height="627" /></a> </p>

<p>Enfim, tentei esquecer. Entregaram as provas, finalmente.</p>
<p>Fui pra de inglês, pra gabaritar e acalmar. Fui fazendo, achei fácil. Porém&#8230; na última questão: medo. A pergunta se referia a um texto de dicas para quem acabou de perder o emprego. Todos os verbos estavam no modo imperativo.</p>

<p>Pensei, astuto mas com medo (nunca se sabe o que o vestibulador pensou na hora de fazer a questão):</p>
<p>- Haha, pegadinha sacaninha. Aposto que vão marcar a C, mas Imperative é o <strong>modo</strong> do verbo, e não o tempo, hihi. Marquei o simple present, feliz.</p>

<p>Porra, como assim?</p>
<p>Caíram na própria pegadinha. Ou eu estou completamente enganado, reclamando erroneamente? Corrijam, please, mas, até onde sei, Imperativo é modo.</p>
<p>A prova de química, apesar de tensa, gabaritei. Fiquei espantado; nos anos passados a unioeste cobrava umas questõezinhas de solução e tals, esse ano eles deram uma reação e pediram pra calcular a quantidade de massa do produto final (acho, nem lembro), enfim, uma questão - normalmente &#8211; cobrada em segunda fase. A parte da orgânica tava difícil, pros fracos (risos). Reações de oxirredução e adição (se não me falha a memória) com uma pitada de isomeria.</p>
<p>A de biologia, decepção total. Acho que não fiz nem cinco <img src='http://s.wordpress.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_sad.gif' alt=':-(' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>
<p>As de Geografia e História eu não me lembro de nada, resolvi bem zumbizão, era só desligar os aparelhos e eu não acordaria mais. Só lembro de uma questão, em geografia, de fuso-horário. Bem tosca. Enfim, desconcentração é algo triste e perigoso.</p>
<p>A de física, pfff, só acertei as (acho que três ou quatro) de teoria. Nem meus amigos monstros em física e matemática foram bem na maldita. Euri.</p>
<p>Gabaritei literatura, mesmo não tendo lido todas as obras HIHIHI.</p>
<p>(Fim do terceiro ato)</p>
<p>Enfim, gente, fui mais ou menos. Disseram que, em virtude da dificuldade da prova e dos resultados ruins, a nota de corte pode baixar bastante, o que quer dizer que eu &#8211; talvez &#8211; vá pra segunda fase. Não boto muita fé.</p>
<p>Tô cansadinho e com sono. Achei até legal estudar no plazza, apesar de preferir os banheiros e as poucas escadas do teen &#60;3, sem falar das salas de monitorias espaçosas e confortáveis.</p>
<p>Meu dia foi estranho. Nem estudei muito, tô adorando esse descanço, rs. Acordei morrendo de sono, fui pra escola de manhã e vegetei; na aula de física a professora deu uma prova de recuperação, mas eu não precisei fazer porque tirei nota máxima na última, 1bj. Dormi à tarde, não aguentei. Acordei às três horas pra devolver um livro na escola. Fui no plazza e resolvi a prova de química da Fuvest do último domingo, achei susse. Assisti duas aulas de redação, passei no mercado pra comprar chocolate amargo &#8211; tava com vontade louca &#8211; peguei o AirBus e fui pra casa.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p><a href="http://www.chrysler.com/shared/images/experience/featurednewsdefault.jpg"><img class="alignleft" src="http://www.chrysler.com/shared/images/experience/featurednewsdefault.jpg" alt="Chrysler Logo" width="274" height="151" /></a>Earlier this year, Fiat Group purchased 20% of Chrysler Group, leaving 55% to the UAW (United Auto Workers) and the rest to the US and Canadian Governments.  To American drivers who remember when Fiats and Alfa Romeos were last sold in the United States, this can conjure up bad memories of rotting floorboards, rusty fenders, and finicky engines.  I think the new Chrysler/Fiat merger means good things to those of us stateside, and I&#8217;ll tell you why.</p>
<p><!--more--></p>
<p>Since the last Fiat or Alfa Romeo was sold in the United States, their cars have been improved, and are fairly well received in Europe.  Now that Fiat has controlling stake in Chrysler, they automatically have a dealership network, parts suppliers and manufacturing plants in North America.  This means easy integration into America, and with Chrysler&#8217;s current lack of upcoming products, an opportune time to replace existing designs and platforms with Fiat and Alfa Romeo&#8217;s existing hardware.  Currently, the only vehicles set to show up in calendar year 2010 are the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee and the redesigned 2011 Chrysler 300C.</p>
<p><a href="http://roadreality.wordpress.com/files/2009/11/2010_chrysler_300_clock.jpg"><img class="alignright size-medium wp-image-230" title="2010_Chrysler_300_Clock" src="http://roadreality.wordpress.com/files/2009/11/2010_chrysler_300_clock.jpg?w=300" alt="2010 Chrysler 300 Touring Clock" width="300" height="225" /></a>With that in mind, Fiat plans to incorporate its own cars into Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep dealerships, starting with the Alfa Romeo MiTo, and possibly the Fiat 500 later on.  In addition to bringing fresh styling to the Chrysler vehicles, the traditionally smaller cars produced by Fiat and Alfa Romeo will raise Chrysler&#8217;s average fuel economy, making it more likely that the newly-formed group won&#8217;t get in trouble for meeting new, stringent CAFE (Corporate Average Fuel Economy) standards, set to take effect in 2012.</p>
<p>In addition to the influsion of cars and technology, Fiat also brings cash flow to the table, able to help out a struggling Chrysler and keep them afloat long enough for the new products to hit showroom floors.</p>
<p>Another interesting facet to this story is the Dodge Ram truck line.  Recently, television ads have told us all about the new Ram trucks, and the new 2500 and 3500 heavy-duty line.  Chrysler confirmed recently that they are actually splitting the Ram truck line off, as its own brand.  This makes it easier to meet the aforementioned CAFE requirements, and allows the Ram brand to branch off into big-rig territory.  This is still a rumor which may or may not come true, but in my mind is likely.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s a troubling time to be Chrysler, but with a little luck, and some fresh new products, they have every chance to make it, although I predict that the Chrysler of a few years from now will be very much different from today&#8217;s Chrysler, with smaller, more fuel-efficient cars and less of a dependance on SUV and truck sales.  They will also have streamlined their product lineup, and will be more of a niche player in the automotive marketplace.  While Fiat and Alfa Romeo will donate new vehicles, all of the poorly-selling vehicles currently in showrooms will be phased out or replaced, but mostly just phased out.  Look for more modern interiors, with all of today&#8217;s avaliable technologies, as well as more highly-engineered engines, capable of doing more with less, which is the current mantra of engine designers.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>While we haven&#8217;t looked into the matter too intently, we&#8217;re pretty damn sure the Alfa Romeo 159 Ti is the sexiest saloon or estate car currently on sale that we <em>can&#8217;t</em> get here in the US. In fact, call us crazy, but we think it might even outdo a certain other <em>quattroporte</em> paisan beginning with the capital letter &#8216;Q&#8217;. Little wonder- the 159 was sculpted by none other than <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giorgetto_Giugiaro">Giorgetto Giugiaro</a>, the design genius behind some of the most iconic automotive shapes of the past forty some odd years.</p>
<p>One can&#8217;t help but look at this car and wonder, can it be anything <em>but</em> Italian? <em>La passione</em>&#8230;</p>

<p>Allow me the indulgence of breaking habit, and posting something athletic-footwear based on this blog. I&#8217;m aware there&#8217;s another sit for this kind of thing, but alas, at time-of-writing, all things army are tinged with controversy and matters of Ministry Of Defence military issue quality are deeply topical. I&#8217;ve been known to complain about build on a product, but when it&#8217;s a matter of life or death rather than cracked paint on the sole, it&#8217;s something else altogether.</p>
<p>As a result, the release of Nike&#8217;s Special Forces Boot earlier in the year was a subdued one rather than a bells and whistles affair.  So I thought I&#8217;d spotlight it here instead in a rare moment of product focus. I also think a lot of the writeups I&#8217;ve seen elsewhere have been pretty dry.</p>

<p>Seeing as I&#8217;m surrounded by the things, I don&#8217;t get very excited by shoes any more. The same happened when I work experienced in a comic book store &#8211; never bought another funny book after October 1993. The experience of retail and cost pricing taught me just how disposable they are. When it comes to shoes, it takes an awful lot to pique my interest to purchasing point rather than mere freeloading. The SFB is one of those times (and no, this <em>isn&#8217;t</em> payola-led). I&#8217;ve sung the praises of the glorious ACG Air Tarn here before, but I love the Baltoro, Air Rhyolite and the Air Superdome (not the terrible Max Superdome though, which deserves the purgatory of outlet store hell). Until Timberland staged a comeback lately, it seemed that the Goadome love could spread from Washington D.C. to anywhere the big boot look could thrive. But I wanted to see some progression beyond the vintage revisits that are substantially responsible for my frequent bouts of sneaker narcolepsy. I think the SFB brings it.</p>
<p>&#8220;Those are ugly!&#8221; is music to my ears when it comes to this kind of thing. Some of these shoes have the upper only an oddball could love, but they slap me out of snooze-mode. I&#8217;d been waiting for Nike to drop something like this after adidas&#8217;s age-old black-on-black GSG9 army model, often criticised for traction issues, but clean in appearance continued to shift units. I love tactical/army and desert boot design. The GSG9 even been followed with a sequel, the GSG9.2 that employs Climacool and adiPRENE into the model. It&#8217;s okay, but Oakley&#8217;s Elite Special Forces S.I. Assault Boot was a more exciting big-brand design &#8211; as I understand, Oakley&#8217;s army-standard verson was US-made, with a China-made civilian version. Britain&#8217;s Hi-Tec, who made the abominable Silver Shadow and Squash, enjoying brief success with hi-tops for those too poor to afford adidas Ewing Rivalrys before succumbing to cut-price shame had huge success with their Vibram soled Magnum line for police and military, but the Hi-Tec name is still a repellent for me, regardless of whether Kinetic Effect wore &#8216;em for press shots circa. 1994.</p>

<p>We&#8217;re all preoocupied with all things rugged and old at present (I&#8217;m writing this in a pair of Mountain Lights), but progression can be necessary in military products. Boot design has taken vast leaps this decade taking chunks of tradition and performance breakthroughs too. I can only imagine the contempt anyone who&#8217;s signed up for combat would feel for the likes of me eulogising the aesthetics of army attire. I don&#8217;t care either. Specialist forums are riddled with reviews based on marches and tours of duty as well as a healthy contempt for posers. I speak only as a footwear fanboy. How many hoarders of Vans have touched a board in the last twenty years? The recent ALIFE 40 Below proves there&#8217;s plenty of life in the big boot movement, and those look pretty reserved compared to Nike&#8217;s offering.</p>
<p>Old styles like the German Para boot are a no-no, appropriated by too many trustafarians, but I firmly believe that the DNA of contemporary army footwear styles lie in two design classics &#8211; 1977s waterproof M77 boot from Alfa Skofabrik for the Norwegian army, still an army-issue there, and Israeli elite forces Commandos boots from Paladium with their hardwearing union of canvas and polyurethane.</p>

<p>Twinning an army desert boot upper with a sole that looks like the underrated Free Trail model, the faux-leather and polyester on the  SFB&#8217;s upper, approach to surface grip and flex, thermoplastic on the forefoot and real-leather/Kevlar protection lower down is an interesting adaptation of existing technologies.  They&#8217;re lightweight too as well as breathable, meaning trench foot chances are minimised. But a benefit to a serviceman but hinderance to a hipster doofus like me is that height. Those recoiling at the towering cut need to focus on what&#8217;s visible under denim &#8211; my aim wasn&#8217;t to rock them like a &#8216;Funk Your Head Up&#8217; era Ultramagnetics affiliate, or to look like I&#8217;m making a field trip to Endor. Still, quick lacing or not, it&#8217;s a daily chore that&#8217;s a potential dealbreaker.</p>
<p>The chukka version might not fall in line with the full milspec intent, but after Hiroshi Fujiwara (who showcased a good black/purple high pair) and Hirofumi Kiyonaga got their hands on it, this tactical design was brought in line with their Uniform Experiment collection. I assumed that the UE ethos would omit anything quite this roughneck, but seemingly not. Trimmed down, it&#8217;s an easier wear, and black-on-black minimses any aesthetic concerns regarding the duality of a more rounded upper and futuristic jagged sole unit. It&#8217;s a less challenging wear, and one of the best things Nike have executed in years. I can forgive them for the &#8216;Year Of The Pig&#8217; Air Max Footscape 360 and years of nondescript Max reworkings if standards remain this high.</p>
<p>Recently I&#8217;ve been taking a look at the army offerings from more conventional suppliers like Lowa, Belleville, Meindl, Garmont, Danner, 511, Zamberlan, Redback and Altberg. <a href="http://www.altberg.co.uk/">North Yorkshire&#8217;s Altberg </a>rarely get the spotlight they deserve for their handcrafted output.</p>

Wee, de automobilist, die in de jaren zeventig een Alfasud kocht. Zo&#8217;n auto kostte een jaarsalaris en jawel na een jaar waren daar reeds de eerste roestblaasjes te zien. En na drie jaar was de Alfa tot stof weergekeerd.</p>
<p>Toch was die ALFA  nog een betrekkelijk goede auto; althans in die tijd. De bezitter van een Jaguar was slechter af.<br />
 De belangrijkste kwaliteiten van die auto waren destijds dat alle mechanica uitsluitend op part-basis functioneerde en dat ieder onderdeel vroeger of later afbrak.</p>
<p>Men kon zich in die dagen ook een Delorean DMC-12 aanschaffen. Een aluminium sportwagen, die meer dan 80.000 pond kostte, waarvan de motor helaas zo zwak was, dat ie nog geen tentharing uit de grond kon trekken.</p>
<p>En wat dacht u van de Triumph TR 8; if this car was a Triumph, imagine what a failure would look like.</p>
<p>Al deze citaten komen uit <strong>Crap Cars</strong> een zeer lezenswaardig boekje van Richard Porter. Nog veel leuker is Tony Davis: Lemon!<br />

<p>Daarin wordt het verhaal verteld over de Ford Pinto, waarvan de benzinetank de nare eigenschap had te scheuren bij een kopstaartbotsing.<br />
Doordat de brandstof vervolgens over de hete uitlaat stroomde en vlam vatte en de deuren al waren vastgeklemd door de botsing , zaten de passagiers als ratten in een val.<br />
 Kans op overleven was nihil.</p>
<p>Ford weigerde de constructie van de benzinetank aan te passen, omdat de inzittenden vanwege de gebrekkige constructie van de auto de aanrijding toch niet overleefd zouden hebben.</p>

<p>Je kunt goed bepalen wat er per week in huis moet gebeuren en kan ook luisteren naar wat de cliënt van je vraagt.</p>
<p>Je vindt het geen probleem om met de fiets naar de cliënt te gaan.</p>

<p>Ervaring als thuiszorgmedewerker is niet vereist maar als je al bij ‘mensen thuis’, in de horeca of  in een winkel hebt schoongemaakt, dan is dat natuurlijk ook goed.</p>

<p>Wanneer je zelfstandig een eigen huishouding hebt, dan kan jij zeer waarschijnlijk ook voor ons werken.   </p>

<p>Je hebt plezier in huishoudelijk werk. En je vindt het ook gezellig om (onder werktijd) een kopje koffie of thee met de klant ( vaak oudere mensen) te drinken en een gesprekje te voeren.</p>

<p>Je kunt goed bepalen wat er per week in huis moet gebeuren en kan ook luisteren naar wat de cliënt van je vraagt.</p>
<p>Je vindt het geen probleem om met de fiets naar de cliënt te gaan.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Ervaring als thuiszorgmedewerker is niet vereist maar als je al bij ‘mensen thuis’, in de horeca of  in een winkel hebt schoongemaakt, dan is dat natuurlijk ook goed.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>Wanneer je zelfstandig een eigen huishouding hebt, dan kan jij zeer waarschijnlijk ook voor ons werken.   </p>

<p>Wij bieden je een part time baan. Je kunt in de ochtend of in de middag werken. Bepaal zelf de dagen waarop je wil werken. Je kunt tussen de 3 en 15 (max 30 uur) per week werken.</p>

<p>Je bent een vrouw (m/v) en bent op zoek naar werk. Misschien heb je nooit gedacht om in de thuiszorg te gaan werken, maar je denkt wel dat je dit werk wel zou kunnen en willen doen, al is het misschien jouw ideale baan, je doet in ieder geval weer nieuwe ervaring op !</p>

<p>Last spring, the MIS program at the University of Alabama partnered with Alfa Insurance on a year-long project to provide Alfa with the necessary systems for compliance with recent Medicare legislation. The new rules, found in Section 111 of the Medicare, Medicaid, and SCHIP Extension Act of 2007, mandate that all insurance providers report to Medicare their payouts to Medicare-eligible beneficiaries.  This will ensure that individuals do not receive payment for their medical expenses from both a private insurer and Medicare. The deadline for compliance is Q2 2010. Failure to comply will result in fines of $1000 per claim/per day. At that rate, the cost to Alfa could well exceed an estimated $40MM annually.</p>
<p>The project required the UA teams to research the law, develop an understanding of the requirements and design, build and implement a solution for gathering and reporting the requisite information.  Thanks to the efforts of the Spring team, Alfa adjusters now have a web application that stores the required data in a database.  Our team has now begun work on phase two of the project.  The main focus of the team this semester will revolve around designing and building the means of compiling and formatting the data and implementing the process for transmitting that data to Medicare on a quarterly basis.</p>
<p>Additionally, we will be adding print functionality and enhanced search capabilities to the current web application.  The purpose of this is to improve the visibility of the data and to integrate these new requirements into Alfa’s existing business processes as neatly as possible.  The additional search parameters will allow users to review and update claims more easily.  The ability to print the claims will ensure that the data is portable and accessible to all users of the system.</p>
<p>This project represents a unique opportunity for University of Alabama MIS students to gain crucial work experience while providing real value to a business that serves over a million customers.
