Todo lo bueno se acaba y esto no iba a ser menos. Alfie, que regenta la Videoarena, ha vuelto de Estados Unidos y por consiguiente ya puede asistir a todos los preestrenos, así que mi labor como colaborador se acaba. De estos meses me llevo mi primera experiencia profesional como periodista (por lo menos iba acreditado, eso ya es algo) y doy mi más sincero agradecimiento a Alfie por haber confiado en mí. Um dos maiores atores que já tive a oportunidade de assistir nas telonas. Sem dúvida, o ator britânico de 76 anos nos dias de hoje, o simpático Michael Cane merece todos os elogios e reconhecimento pela sua extensa obra.

A Variety, divulgou uma entrevista concedida pelo ator, que fala do seu passado e presente.

Para começar, Cane afirma não ser uma estrela e sim, um ator:  “Quando uma estrela de cinema lê um script, ele pergunta:” Como eu posso mudar isso para me atender? ” Ele diz: ‘Michael Caine não diria isso, Michael Caine não faria isso. ” Quando você é um ator de cinema, você muda-se para atender o roteiro “, explica o sorridente ator.

Cane também fala que mesmo estrando há 56 anos no ramo de atuação, quando começou mesmo no teatro, até hoje não busca repetir personagens. Uma característica invejável para muitos outros profissionais do ramo. Segundo ele, desde que fez Alfie, nunca mais interpretou outro personagem mulherengo. Realmente, o Sr. Cane é bem versátil.

Sobre não ter voltado mais para o teatro, ele diz: “No teatro, você está ali para se revelar ao homem na parte de trás do balcão, que paga o seu dinheiro para que ele possa ver como você está agindo”, diz ele com uma pitada de desprezo. “Nos filmes, você deve esconder sua qualidade de uma câmera que poderia ser de apenas três metros de distância.” De fato, uma declaração bem coerente. Nada contra o teatro, lembrando.

Sobre seu último trabalho, Harry Brown (Veja o link abaixo), Cane diz que é o personagem que mais se parece com ele. Cane também é um ex-soldado da Elephant & Castle um distrito do Sul de Londres.

Também enumerou algumas produções da qual possúi imenso carinho: “The Quiet American”, “Educating Rita”, “The Cider House Rules”, “Little Voice”, “Hannah e Suas Irmãs” e duas versões de “Sleuth”. Também completa afirmando que os papéis ficaram muito melhores depois que envelheceu, já que não precisaria ter ligações românticas.

Para encerrar, Cane diz que adora fazer parte da equipe do diretor Christopher Nolan (Batman Begins e TDK). Segundo ele, ficou feliz mesmo com uma pequena participação em Inception, seu novo filme. E declarou: “Eu acho que ele é um dos maiores diretores que existe.”

This is an egg cooking method I learned from my bff (who is currently doing a semester abroad in Ghana!). It’s really simple and it’s like a cross between poached eggs and over-easy eggs. It’s really simple:

Put a little bit of water in the bottom of a non-stick skillet. Add a little bit of butter for the sake of preventing sticking. Turn the heat up high so the water reaches a simmer. Crack an egg into the pan and immediately cover it with a lid to keep the steam in. It will only take 2-3 minutes for the egg to steam. You want to cook it just long enough that the white part turns opaque but that the yolk stays runny. As soon as it’s done cooking take it out of the water with a slotted spatula (so you don’t take the water out with the egg).

You can eat these eggs with toast or hash browns. Personally, I think they go well on top of leftover rosemary roasted potatoes and onions. Maybe with a little bit of catsup. Mmm.

En estos episodios se narran las aventuras del Patito Yakkie Doddle , el cual siempre esta siendo perseguido por el zorro Fibber (Facunda). Por fortuna para él suele salvarse pues le protege un perro grandullón llamado Chopper.

Um cão é suspeito de ter sido o responsável pelo incêndio que destruiu a cozinha de uma casa em Llanfairfechan, no Reino Unido. O fogo provocou prejuízo de 6 mil libras (cerca de R$ 17 mil), segundo o jornal britânico “Daily Post”.

De acordo com o dono do animal, Paul Gregson, o cão chamado ‘Alfie’ dorme na cozinha e subiu em cima do fogão à procura de algo para comer e acabou tropeçando no botão que ligava a chama.

O proprietário contou que a família acordou na madrugada da última terça-feira pelo alarme do detector de fumaça. “No início, ficamos desorientados. Nós pensamos: ‘Que diabos é esse barulho?’”, afirmou Gregson.

Paul, a mulher e os filhos Charlie, de 10 anos, e Patrick, de 7, além do próprio cão, escaparam ilesos do acidente. Após o incêndio, a família passou a chamar ‘Alfie’ de incendiário, de acordo com o periódico.

The Silly Girl took some time off this evening to de-stress and was listening to her collection of jazz, when she found this song in her playlist (hers was a jazz version sung by Ilona Knopfler).

Alfie Jack William Scane (4 Years old)

Here is an update on Alfy and how big he is getting.  During this phase in his growth he seems to be suffering from growing pains.  He enjoys a massage on his legs and shoulders each night and sprawls out in front of the fireplace and sleeps for hours…..

We are wondering how big he is going to get?  He is now 60lbs!

It was the theme from the 1966 film Alfie. It was performed in the film during the end credits by Cher in an arrangement by Sonny Bono.

In 1966, Cher released her version (also the original version of this song) as a single. Released on the Imperial label, this version became a top forty hit on the Billboard Hot 100.

Also in 1966, Cilla Black released her version of "Alfie" as a single. It became a top ten hit on the UK Singles Chart, where it peaked at number nine. It was also a minor hit for her on the Billboard Hot 100.

Well, first day blogging, and already good karma has come the Senators way. I missed the game tonight, but listened to it on the Team 1200.

Sounded like Spezza had a dominant game, Alfie was his usual awesome self, and Neil absolutely DESTROYED Victor Hedman. Not that I’ve ever been in the big leagues, but you really get the feeling that Hedman will not enjoy Ottawa as a place to play. First trip here, Sweden loses to Canada. Second trip here, he gets destroyed by Volchenkov. Third trip here, Neil plasters him with what Bob McKenzie called “an outstanding hockey hit”. Think he’ll be in a hurry to come back?

Way to go boys. Only 72 more points until the playoffs.

Well it’s been a while!  My supposed mini leave of absence turned into an age and it’s been forever since my last post – so first things first, I must introduce to the world (or more accurately, to the 3 people who actually read this blog!) my new baby nephew Alfie:

He was born on October 5th and weighed in (I always wonder why people want to know baby weights – it’s the last thing on my mind when being told of a birth, but I still feel compelled to ask about it!) at a rather whopping 10lb 2!  He’s an absolute dream, has the bluest of eyes and a mass of soft blonde hair.  His older brother Harry, is not too sure about sharing his home with a baby, but aside from the occaisonal dirty look he does warrant a fleeting kiss or cry of “baby!” every so often too.  They’ll be little playmates in no time at all.

We had a lovely run in the front fields this afternoon. I am now working Alfy on his long-line in more open areas.  We are having tremendous fun learning the new search command.  I go out and hide the treats among the bushes and then let him out to ’seek’.  He happily goes out in front and tracks back and forth to find them all.  The trees are gorgeous right now and the air cold and brisk (when it’s not raining).  I have waited a few weeks to post more Alfy pictures as for a while we didn’t see any change.  During the editing of these I was very aware that he, indeed, has changed a lot since our last photo shoot.  Can you notice any difference?  At his last vet visit he was 53 lbs. He is so photogentic and such a ham it is really fun to photograph him.

More soon on his first visit to the mall and the local pet store.  He will start his formal obedience class this coming Monday.

What’s it all about? Players and Playettes sometimes have to stop and ask that very question. What’s all the juggling, secret phone-calls, late night tip-toes, about? Why do you spend so much time looking for something, only to find it and piss it away?

One of my favorite movies of all-time is Alfie(2004). It is the story of young professional player in the height of the game, enjoying the moment. Then out of nowhere he catches feelings that aren’t returned his way. That leads to some self-reflection and questions, “What’s it all about?”

Sometimes we get so far caught up in the game that when we have something good, we let it get away. And what we want or think we want, doesn’t really want us. So what is it all about?

The video after the break sums up the “Alfie” experience well.
