The best part? They will be sequined.

Who didn’t own a pair of keds growing up (or now for that matter)?  Well, I bet they didn’t look like these!  Keds has partnered with fashion designer Alice + Olivia to add a luxe factor to the All-American sneaker.  The old-school slip-ons are covered in sequins and will retail for $88.  They’re launching exclusively at Neiman Marcus this spring, followed by Alice + Olivia stores and website along with select retailers worldwide.  Will you pick up a pair?

Keds has taken another move to refresh its traditionally classic look–this time with alice + olivia.

The alice  + olivia collection launches exclusively at select Neiman Marcus stores and at neimanmarcus.com this spring. alice + olivia boutiques and online stores will carry it thereafter.

No photos have been provided yet. However, the project is said to be Stacey Bendet’s (founder of alice + olivia) fresh take on the Keds classic Champion silhouette, the original sneaker, which also draws inspiration from her own spring 2010 collection and quirky designing knack.

The sequined sneakers will be available in four colors – black, silver, pale pink and safari green and are expected to retail for $88 a pair.

I love the Oslen Twins! I have loved them since I was a little middle schooler! Their very unique and eclectic style keeps me intrigued. Although I’m not always in love with their personal fashion choices, I do love their Alice & Olivia line. So beautiful! OK, I promise this is the last Jillian style post I’ll put up. Well…maybe.

Although it was painful at times, I finally watched the premiere of The Bachelor last night. I was literally hiding under a blanket during moments because I was so embarrassed for some of the girls. The cheesy gimmicks during the introductions at the beginning…wow, just wow. The one bright, sparkly moment in the show was when Jillian and Ed came on the show to interview the girls. Not only were they funny and cute and wonderful, but seriously, that DRESS. I’m in love. And it’s not with Jake or Ed or Jason – it’s with that sweet little sparkly number by Alice + Olivia. (And thank you, again, Possessionista for the info/link.) Yes, it is sold out. But there are so many other short, sequined tank dresses out there right now. Like this one, this one, this one, this one, this one, this one,  this one, you get the idea. :)

Flicking through the red carpet photos from last night’s People’s Choice Awards, I was underwhelmed by the majority of the outfits on show. I did find a few I liked and have featured my 4 favourites above.

Jessica Alba: The best dressed and my favourite outfit of the night. I’m more used to seeing candids of her sporting a dressed down style in LA so it makes a change to see her fully glammed-up for an event. The pewter Antonio Berardi dress is a great choice and highlights her lean, toned figure.

Olivia Wilde: I love the old Hollywood look and Olivia pulls it off perfectly, looking  ultra glamorous in a Monique Lhuillier dress from the Fall 2009 collection. The white gown is offset by a striking black sash and beautiful shoulder detail. I especially love the way the dress doesn’t reach the floor, revealing her black satin slingbacks and adding a slight ’50’s feel.

Lea Michele: Lea is both gorgeous and ever so talented. Her little red dress by Alice + Olivia, paired with striped Louboutin heels makes the perfect combination and exudes a  young, fresh vibe. The look is topped off by her flawless make-up and glossy, tousled hair. Glee hits UK screens next Monday and I can’t wait!

Diane Kruger: Looking effortless as always, Diane highlights her amazing body in a figure hugging Herve Leger dress paired with gladiator style heels. Diana rarely disappoints on the red carpet, but this outfit is a definite ‘I like’ rather than ‘I LOVE!’.

What makes an outfit beautiful?

If you asked me (not that you did, but I’m going to tell you anyway), I’d say that the same principles of beauty apply to fashion, makeup, sunsets, symphonies, and poetry. If you asked my younger brother, he’d probably say that they also apply to computer games and monster trucks.

I got to thinking about it because Teen Vogue just published a “Fashion Faceoff” between TV actress Nina Dobrev of “The Vampire Diaries” and heiress Nicky Hilton, younger sister of Paris Hilton.

The faceoff compares side-by-side photos* of Nina and Nicky, each wearing a monochrome Alice & Olivia mini-dress by designer Stacey Bendet. It asks Teen Vogue readers which they like better. (To see the side-by-side photos, click here.)

The mini-dress is solid white and solid black. Nicky left it at that, adding only black heels and a white clutch. But Nina added a layered silver chain necklace and sheer black leggings.

Which looks better? I like Nina as an actress, but Nicky won the fashion faceoff.

Why did she win? It seems to me that whether we’re talking about an outfit, a painting, a symphony, or a play in football (I included the football reference just for any male readers who made it this far), all the parts have to fit together harmoniously. Any clashes should be planned and carefully controlled. Colors can clash, musical notes can clash, and so can styles. But if you’re going for simplicity, it’s safer to stay with simplicity.

Nina went wrong because she tried to combine a simple, solid color mini-dress with a layered necklace and leggings that were visually complex and didn’t even match each other. You can combine simple with complex elements in an outfit, just like you can combine different colors and styles, but it’s tricky. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. A little bit of clash is good, but it has to be just the right kind and the right amount.

Nicky won by starting with the simple mini-dress and keeping the whole look simple. She took no risks, but the reason they’re called “risks” is that they can blow up in your face. Nicky wasn’t in any danger from that. Nina took a risk, so she deserves credit, but it didn’t work out for her this time.

So here’s my philosophy of the whole thing, and please forgive me if I ramble because I spent most of the day in airports and flying home from school. You’re always much safer if you keep it simple. That applies to fashion, friendship, sports, music, and almost everything else.

Complexity is the frosting on the cake: it’s fine but it should be used sparingly. A cake that’s mostly frosting will make you yak.

This time of year calls for merriment, champagne popping, tunes non-stopping.  Perhaps I shall pursue a new career in rapping? 

My wardrobe has a disproportionate amount of cocktail and party frocks.  It’s an embarrassing 4:1 ratio dresses to pants.  Truth be told, girls at holiday parties always want to be one of the most sparkling and radiant diamonds in the bunch.  It’s social mortification (“Gasp! OMG, she is wearing the same dress as you!”) to show up with the exact same outfit as someone else.  This inevitabley leads to consciously staying by the punch while she is on the dancefloor.  Too much labour!

I would like to share a few thoughts about what makes a striking statement dress that will get you “High ROC’s” (return on compliment) in the Snapbox (a la Elle Woods, Legally Blonde 2).   

Put your hands up in your hair for Alice + Olivia's LBD

• Little Black Dress – Truth:  I am not a big advocate of party dressing in black.  If you really must LBD it, pleasex3 make it interesting and exciting by adding rhinestones, some leather and a heaping serving of tulle.  Subtle does not exist in my fashion dictionnaire.  This version is so fun and flirty, you will be KB-ing with your choice of suitors in no time.  And why not punch up your dress with some flashy stilettos in a cerulean blue or a layered ruffle fuschia?

• Colour Me Gorgeous – Bright solids like this cobalt blue chiffon assymetrical mini dress from R-Rod will make a statement.  Colour is one of the easiest ways to flatter your skin tone.  With sequin appliques and an interestingly slouchy dolman sleeve, people will take notice to your attention to details. 

Violet BCBG: Swag me in mauve fabric

• Grecian goddess – BCBG is my go-to for the best cocktail dresses.  Here we have a lovely pale mauve ruched mini dress with one-shoulder and rhinestones appliques.  Super flattering and you don’t need much jewellery because the dress is fairly embellished in a bib necklace style.  Draped chiffon is so pretty in photos, especially in action shots.

• Beach Optic Floral – If you keep up with the resort trends, floral prints will be in bloom for Spring.  Pardon the cheesy pun.  Be the first fashionistah on your block to sport the look in a Pop Art, colour kaleidoscope, graphic maxi, like this version from Diane von Furstenburg.  If you are fortunate enough to spend the holidays away on vacation, this one should be packed in your suitcase.
