Esther Koplowitz is the recluse.  The sister who shies away from media, who keeps to herself, who—even when her Chamartin luxury apartment was burgled in 2001 –refused to speak to the media other than to communicate through a spokesperson that her enviable collection of fine art was uninsured.  Though both sisters married a set of cousins nearly simultaneously and divorced in unison over separate counts of adultery, the similarities between Esther and Alicia Koplowitz are about as rare as the paintings the sisters house in their respective homes.

While both sisters are listed among Spain’s richest individuals, and both are counted among the billionaire socialites of the world, Esther Koplowitz runs FCC, Fomentos de Construcciones y Contratas, and does so remarkably.  Esther’s shrewd business sense has garnered her a position on the board of France’s Vivendi International.

Alicia Koplowitz is considerably more visible in the art world than her sister, recently slated as attending the European Fine Art Fair in Maastricht, the Netherlands.

While passionate and active in many areas of society, culture, and scientific researcy (maintaining a steady interest in dance, world travel, and the two foundations she leads), Alicia Koplowitz has made a particular name for herself in the world of art collection.  Living in the luxurious area of Madrid known as La Moraleja, Alicia Koplowitz has lined the walls of her home with paintings and sculpture pieces from the Baroque, Impressionist, and countless other artistic periods.  The collection that Koplowitz has amassed through the years is impressive, to say the very least.

As a native-born Spaniard (a Jewish businessman, Koplowitz’ father had relocated to Spain from Poland to escape Nazi persecution) it should come as no great surprise to the reader to find that many of the art pieces Alicia Koplowitz values most come from artists who have been born from the same soil.  Goya’s work features heavily in Koplowitz’ collection.  Also present is the enviable adquisition of Goya’s Celestina y Maja en el Balcón, a work which Koplowitz acquired from the heirs of Bartolomé March for an undisclosed amount.

Alicia Koplowitz has bid on and purchased numerous works from Sotheby’s and Christie’s auctions by Picasso, Modigliani, and Barceló.  Her taste is known art world-wide as impeccable.  She has her hands in numerous businesses in the United States, mostly hotels.  Her hotels in Milan and Lisbon are also succeeding, and she is ranked as the richest woman in Spain.

Fado (translated as destiny or fate) is a music genre which can be traced from the 1820s in Portugal, but probably with much earlier origins. It is characterized by mournful tunes and lyrics, often about the sea or the life of the poor.

In order to increase international business relations, Mickael Casol, son and manager of French Contemporary Artist Maryse Casol , visited top executives, art galleries and private collectors in 4 very important European cities. Paris, Strasbourg, St-Tropez, and Monte-Carlo were among those destinations.

The 14 day long commercial mission started in Paris where Mr. Casol met with Serge Alecian, ceo of Innovence, consultant leaders for European Financial Institutions; Olivier Coriatt, owner of Charmita, a High End Place Trocadero house interior company; and Pascal Marchetti, Director for Banque Populaire Group (€ 8 083 000 000 Income – 2006). 

Relating to the art industry, Mickael visited well hidden Galerie Yvon Lambert and famous Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac.

After 7 days in the French Capital, Casol’s manager went by plane to Strasbourg where he met with Credit Mutuel’s (€ 10 838 000 000 Income – 2006) much respected President, Mr. Etienne Pflimlin. After a banking conference given by Mr. Pflimlin in the board room, the two discussed art while walking threw the headquarters on Wacken Street.

Mickael Casol describes those meetings as “very fruitful” and “potentially rewarding for all partners”.

However, this voyage would not have been complete without a stop on the Mediterranean Coast! What better than to make friends over a cool drink in a paradisal setting?!

The next stop was St-Tropez’s Nikki Beach were Mickael met with private art collectors during the day. At Night, they went for a drink at Legendary Hotel Byblos where Lamborghinis, Aston Martins and Ferraris are a standard.
 

The Last destination was Monaco. After visiting an exhibition at Hotel de Paris, Art Dealer Mickael Casol met by coincidence world renowned Doctor Thierry Ould. It was at Restaurant Miramar that their friendship started. Dr. Ould, a man of great hospitality, invited Mr. Casol to visit his clinic; the Institut Monégasque de Médecine & chirurgie Sportive. Both discovered shared interests in sports, and humanitarian causes.
