Does this mean we can quit our jobs now?

The standard for getting your podcast offered through the iTunes directory must be slipping. Why else would S’up Cuz? be an official listing next to the likes of This American Life, BBC World Business News and Dilbert’s Animated Cartoons? It’s simply unexplainable.

But let’s not question the why; let’s talk about the how. All you need to do is search for “S’up Cuz?” in the iTunes store, and you’ll see our awkward faces staring back at you in no time. From there, you can click “subscribe” and voilà! Nonsense on-demand.

One thing you will notice is next week’s episode is already available on iTunes, essentially rendering this blog obsolete. Apparently we weren’t thinking about that fact in advance. But if you’ve listened to even 30 seconds of our podcast, you know that’s kind of our thing.

I know what you’re saying to yourself right now: “You know what the world needs? Another rambling, nonsensical podcast from two dudes I don’t know.”

This is our first episode, recorded in Memphis, TN over the 2009 Thanksgiving holiday. The genesis of this genius, relevant and thoughtful blog/podcast goes something like this: my cousin Michael suggested we host a podcast. Topics would include anything and everything. Looking for a way to pass the time between heaping plates of Thanksgiving leftovers, I said sure.

And with that, “S’up Cuz?” was born.

At least they're not Hannah Montana posters.

A few thoughts on our maiden podcasting voyage:

1. We need a fact checker/producer.

2. Vague pop culture references seem to work for us.

3. I need to plug my live karaoke band more.

The discussion topics range from the manliness of office decor (specifically Michael’s Lucero poster collection seen to the right) to poser Rush fans, graduation gifts, first jobs and Burt Reynolds, with stories of Slash and Ryan Adams sprinkled in there for good measure.

As soon as you can subscribe to the podcast via iTunes, we’ll let you know. Until then, you can subscribe to this blog as a way to waste your day away with updates, new episodes and buffoonish asides. Also, in this episode we referenced that you could probably email us at supcuz@gmail.com. You can’t. That email was already taken, presumably by some other cousin-based blog/podcast. But you can email us at supcuzpodcast@gmail.com.

We’ll post another glorious episode later this week.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP)—Larry Brown has a message for Allen Iverson(notes): don’t give up.

Iverson’s former coach said Friday he thinks the 10-time All-Star “still has a passion to play” and shouldn’t retire. An online report this week indicated Iverson had decided to end his career after receiving little interest from NBA teams.

Brown, who coached Iverson in Philadelphia when he was voted league MVP in 2001 while leading the 76ers to the NBA finals, said he’s been trying to get in touch with him.

“Anybody that knows him understands how much he loves to play,” said Brown, now coaching the Charlotte Bobcats.

Commentator Stephen A. Smith published a statement on his Web site Wednesday attributed to the 34-year-old Iverson that said he planned to retire. It comes after the Memphis Grizzlies waived Iverson on Nov. 17 amid a dispute over Iverson’s role with the team. There was also friction between Iverson and the Detroit Pistons last year because he didn’t want to come off the bench.

The New York Knicks briefly discussed signing the 6-foot Iverson, but decided against it. Brown said he wouldn’t be a good fit in Charlotte because of the team’s abundance of guards.

Brown believes Iverson is “a little embarrassed” and the retirement talk may come from frustration.

“Think about it: You’re an MVP in the All-Star game and an MVP in the league, scored over 20,000 points,” Brown said. “You still know you can play, and to not have everybody jump up, it’s a pretty humbling thing. But he can play.”

Brown says Iverson could get opportunities later in the season. He pointed to Jan. 10, the date contracts are no longer guaranteed for the season, and the trade deadline a month later when several teams may reshape their rosters.

“Some teams might think they aren’t as good as they thought,” Brown said.

Brown has maintained a close relationship with Iverson despite their famous disputes in Philadelphia, including Iverson’s “We’re talking about practice!” rant after the 76ers’ exit from the 2002 playoffs.

Me gustaría anunciaros mis planes de retirada de la Asociación Nacional de Baloncesto. Siempre pensé que cuando dejara de jugar, sería porque no podría ayudar a mi equipo de la manera que yo estaba acostumbrado  a hacerlo. Sin embargo, no ha sido así.

Todavía tengo un tremendo amor por el juego, el deseo de jugar, y mucho más con lo que me he quedado. Creo firmemente que aún puedo competir al más alto nivel.

Alejarme de jugar me permite pasar tiempo de calidad con mi esposa e hijos. Esta es una recompensa que excede por mucho todo lo que he logrado en la cancha de baloncesto. He rogado por este día y lo veo como el regalo más grande de mi vida.

Quisiera agradecer a la gente de Reebok International Ltd. que siempre me permitieran ser yo mismo y me apoyaran en mi carrera,  atravesando muchos altibajos. He disfrutado de 13 temporadas maravillosas en la NBA, y estoy agradecido.

Sinceramente me parece otro chiste de Iverson. Es de admirar lo que ha conseguido como jugador de baloncesto, pero su personalidad le ha matado a el mismo. Una persona que no sabe aceptar su nuevo rol de equipo, no está preparada para ganar el anillo. Todavía quiere ser una referencia, y lo puede ser, pero no tanto como antes. “The answer” fue MVP de la liga regular en 2001, guiando a su equipo hasta las finales, para perderlas contra Los Angeles Lakers. Es lo que más cerca ha estado del anillo y estará si no cambia su aptitud. Un servidor ha quitado el poster de su habitación porque no cree que Iverson tenga alguna otra “respuesta”.

I usually love watching the Celtics play, but that mood changes considerably when they’re facing the Raptors. Fresh off a 116-81 pounding at the hands of the Bobcats, Toronto will look to bounce back tonight against Jose Calderon’s best friend (Mr. KG, in case you forget) in Boston. As always, check in at Raptors Republic for the best preview in the business.

As easily as the Celtics have handled us in Toronto the past couple years, the Raps have actually put up some decent battles on the parquet floor in Boston. Calderon took over a game in January ‘08 (the Celts’ championship year) before his famous encounter with Garnett early last season, and Andrea Bargnani forced overtime with a late three in an eventual 115-109 loss in the second meeting. The Celtics come into this one looking a little susceptible too, following a tight win over a Sixers team they usually pound and a near-disastrous loss to the Knicks over the weekend. Still, at 11-4 and with the Fantastic Four still in tact, they’re as good a bet as any to win the East this season.

Toronto comes in desperately in need of a bounce-back following Wednesday’s embarrassment in Charlotte. I called out Chris Bosh yesterday and stand by it — now’s the time to step up, big man. This is as tough a game as you’ll play all year, so let’s go make a statement.

Stephen A Smith first reported on his web site that 14 year veteran, 10 time All Star Point Guard Allen Iverson is retiring from the National Basketball Association. On a statement posted on Smith’s website, Iverson said that maintains the desire to play and has a whole lot left in the tank but that his retirement will allow him to spend more quality time with his wife and kids.

First of all, it needs to clear that Iverson is neither retiring from good nor we have a Brett Favre soap opera of our own. What happened is that at this stage of his career, AI became impatient with the situation he faces which is rejection. Iverson’s inability to accept that he has changed, the game has changed and that nobody is willing to guarantee starting minutes anymore, made him unhappy and frustrated with what is happening and he tried to take control of it by telling us that he’s still call the shots of his career by announcing that he’s not willing to adjust to any role that is not what he wants. What really has happened is that nobody really wants him, not right now, not like this.

It’s obvious that AI still can play in the highest level and it’s clear that his talent would put any team closer to the winning road however his inability to accept the simple fact of coming off the bench has put him in this position.

Allen Iverson is one of the best players of all time and will be a hall of famer. His individual talent made him dominant in an Era when individual talent was the most important thing which once allowed him to win an MVP award and drive his 76ers to the Finals. But the game has changed, “we” is now more important than “me” nowadays and since “the Answer” can’t adapt to that, he was pushed out of the league. It’s sad to see a first ballot hall of famer done by default.

El Allen Hills se formó hace unos 4.000 millones de años como parte de la corteza original de Marte. Pasado el tiempo, se desprendió de la superficie, posiblemente por el choque de otra roca, y comenzó un viaje de 16 millones de años por el espacio que terminó en nuestro planeta en una lluvia de meteoritos hace 13.000 años. En 1984, fue hallado por científicos norteamericanos que formaban parte de una misión gubernamental a la Antártida en busca de meteoritos. Las pequeñas marcas encontradas en su superficie fueron objeto de una agria polémica. Los descubrimientos iniciales, dados a conocer por el propio presidente Clinton en agosto de 1996, apuntaban a estructuras microfósiles dejadas por organimos vivos, posiblemente bacterias. Pronto surgieron detractores, que criticaron duramente la investigación. Negaban tajantemente un origen biológico y achacaban las marcas a cambios de temperatura en la roca.
En esta ocasión, los investigadores del Centro Espacial Johnson han utilizado un microscopio electrónico de alta resolución, mucho más avanzado que el que se empleó hace trece años. Los sensores han analizado los cristales de magnetita que forman pequeñas estructuras, como collares de perlas, muy parecidas a las que dejan algunas bacterias terrestres. Al parecer, los nuevos datos apuntan a rastros biológicos de criaturas microscópicas que podrían haber habitado las balsas de agua de la superficie o del subsuelo del planeta Rojo.
Los hallazgos han sido publicados en la revista Geochimica et Cosmochimica Acta, de la Sociedad de la geoquímica y meteoritos. De confirmarse, el descubrimiento supondría una de las revelaciones más sorprendentes sobre el Universo, una revolución para la ciencia y un espaldarazo al programa de misiones espaciales de la agencia espacial norteamericana, tan cuestionado por falta de fondos.

Hello all!

In this post I’d like to let you all know about some of the fantastic clubs we have on campus. Now to be honest, I myself don’t know too many of them, but am here to mention a few that I found really stand out:

First and foremost, the hub of all information having to do with clubs and on-campus student organizations and other goodies is The Point; which is also a great resources for academic advising and more personal interaction with other students, including transfers.

I’d like to dedicate this paragraph to the Story Teller’s Guild: STG is a great organization here at Oswego and also, I believe, the largest. It’s comprised of several “commitees” that focus on various interests including Anime and Sci-fi movie-nights, literary and poetic writing, table-top and card games (like the very popular Magic the Gathering), and PC and console gaming. Did I mention, you could also host your own events once a member? Or petition to create or expand a commitee? I find the club to be very well run and includes a HUGE variety of people. Think it might be for you? Check out the website or visit the General Meeting which takes places every Thursday at 8:00 PM in the Campus Center room 120.

So go out and check out some of our clubs, and join one!

Jets Lustre from back in the day – This is why we love Jessika!  Hot and Sexy!

Jets by Jessika Allen rarely fail to impress in a big way.  Her suits from 08/09 were magical and it was always going to be difficult for this season’s designs to compete with such a high standard.  Having previewed the 2010 collection, I can say that, while there are not the standout designs of the previous two collections, the overall high standard has nonetheless been maintained.  High-end swimwear fashion means Jets, and once again this season that will be so.  I think we can now safely put Jets in the legends category – Jessika’s product has been superior now for long enough!  Reviews of individual suits will follow shortly.

¡Ah, parece que ya es obligatorio! La zorrita Allen no pude dar un concierto sin que le paso algo sexoso. O le metan el dedo en aquellito o ya bien,  se le sale un pezoncito. Pero, nosotros no nos quejamos ¿verdad?

Over the coming weeks, I will be posting reviews of new designs as they come available from Zakoda and Chio.  I have already previewed the new Jets and Maaji collections and they are HOT!  Maaji particularly blew me out of the water – the two girls are an awesome design team!  Stay tuned for detailed reviews coming very soon.

I was so excited when Charlotte and Sarah asked me to do their senior pictures.  I have known these two amazing girls since they were born!!!  That made this shoot really special for me.  While I’m not all that much older than them, I think I can say with certainty that they have grown into such beautiful young women inside and out.  And yes, they are twins.   We had such a great time at two locations – Watters Creek shopping center in Allen and an outdoors spot in Richardson.  This was my first time to shoot at Watters Creek, and it was a great location!  It had so many great colors and textures to play with.  And, I was soooo excited to use the big red chair!  My mom found it at an estate sale, and I’ve just been itching to use it at a shoot.  Thanks ladies for a wonderful session, and enjoy your preview!
