Let me say something before we start this review, that I know all of you are thinking… Alice C

Let me say something before we start this review, that I know all of you are thinking… Alice Cooper has a huge Jew nose!

Alice Cooper was one of my first Hard Rock bands I first heard besides Kiss. Now saying that, I like Alice Cooper way more. The first song I heard back when I was 5, was “Welcome to My Nightmare”. I can’t recollect if my Brother or Dad played it for me or if I put it on. I just remember going around singing in my child gibberish “Welcome to My Nightmare”… It probably came out “Weeeel two my knight mare” or something to that extent. Years later my Dad relived his childhood and bought the Live performance on VHS, it still is awesome.

Now years later, I found out Alice Cooper was a washed up musician who kept trying to “Stay Hip”. However 2008’s “Along Came a Spider” shows that all Alice Cooper need was some help, and he can become the Rock God that everyone remembers.

Along Came a Spider is a theme Album, that plays out much like a movie (just like his old stuff did). It tracks a killer who recreates killings of a spider on humans. There is a short 10 minute movie directed none other than Rob Zombie. It features all the Musicians that helped Alice out. Slash is in it, and for once he’s not in Axle’s ass. Anyways let’s skip the chatter and get to the review of the beast.

01 – “Prologue / I Know Where You Live”, It has a News Report intro. Then goes to the song “I Know Where You Live”. There’s something I want to point out, I’ll be saying “catchy” a lot during this review because almost all the songs on this album are catchy. This song rocks, with this first song it has already obliterated anything off of Dirty Diamonds, which is Alice’s last TERRIBLE album… that has Xzibit on it. This whole song is a flash back to old Alice Cooper which is amazing.

02 – “Vengeance Is Mine”, KICK ASS START. This song features Slash on lead guitar. Slash may be a doucher but he certainly can play. This song is very grooved laced. Overall it’s a bad ass song start to finish. This song is a MUST listen.

03 - “Wake the Dead”, features Ozzy Osbourne… and no Ozzy doesn’t sing HE PLAYS HARMONICA… WTF? This song is a perfect example of what Marylin Mason tries to be, and Alice beats him by miles. This song once again very catchy.

04 – “Catch Me If You Can”, Okay song. Very Pop sounding. I didn’t care for it.

05 – “(In Touch with) Your Feminine Side”, The title suites Alice… really well. Almost a return to old sounding Alice Cooper, I’m anticipating what track will sound like Old Alice Cooper. Once again it’s quite catchy.

06 – “Wrapped in Silk”, This song is lyrically is just exact like a Alice Cooper song. Good song.

07 – “Killed by Love” Shows off Alice’s voice off. It has a somewhat acoustic start, then builds up into a slow rock song. This song is worth a listen, I really like the fact that Alice isn’t trying to sound like he is taking a dump and just singing.

08 – “I’m Hungry”, Sounds like something off Constrictor. That’s not a bad thing, If you liked the Album Constrictor you should listen to this, I personally do it’s probably his last good album until now.

09 – “The One That Got Away” Another catchy song. It’s really good from start to finish, not much more to say about it. It doesn’t really stand out from the rest.

10 – “Salvation”, I was expecting to hear Five Finger Fist F**k whine about how God doesn’t exist. This song is great, it’s epic. Probably could fit exactly with something from “Welcome to my Nightmare”, and there we have it. This song is old Alice Cooper all over again. It’s awesome goes from slow to heavy.

11 – “I Am the Spider / Epilogue”, Great creepy finish. Enough said.

Overall, I really REALLY liked Along Came a Spider and I just heard that Alice is doing a Along Came a Spider themed concert like “Welcome to My Nightmare”. I been reviewing some turds here lately, and this does justice for Alice Cooper. So kids can get off Marylin Manson’s dick and hear the real Alice Cooper.

I’ll leave y’all with the Video and my rating (which is fairly obvious):

2001: Along Came a Spider di Lee Tamahori

Shock rock pioneer Alice Cooper is heading Down Under with a new show, Theatre of Death. I’ve caught the Coop a couple of times in concert and he has never failed to entertain, even without his trademark stage show featuring a guillotine, and a Britney doll just plump for the skewering. I was impressed when he played a Gold Coast stadium one Easter the night following a Kiss concert: there was hardly anyone there, more’s the pity, but it didn’t faze him. He played his heart out.

The latest album, 2008’s Along Came A Spider, was superb, mixing vintage rock and metal in characteristic Alice style as he unveils the life of a serial killer.

Here are the tour dates, with tickets on sale on May 4!
Tuesday 18th August – Win Entertainment Centre, Wollongong (Theatre Mode)

Which is worse?

Finding a book you love and then hating everything else you try by that author, or

Reading a completely disappointing book by an author that you love?

I agree that both things are pretty annoying. I’ve also had a lot of experience with both things.

For me, I think reading a completely disappointing book by an author I love is the worst out of the two. This has happened a couple times with me. This situation makes me start to lose faith in the author, which is never a good thing. It makes me hesitate the next time I’m interested in one of their books, whereas I would normally be jumping on the opportunity to pick it up and read it.

The most recent disappointment I’ve had is my experience reading Along Came A Spider by James Patterson. Patterson is one of my favorite authors, and he is the author that introduced me to the love of reading. You can read my review here for a more detailed description of my disappointment. I have just recently decided to try the next book in the series, but I’m not holding my breath.

That being said, I definitely dislike the other option. But in that case, at least for me, it’s more understandable since I have not had the time to build up faith or loyalty to the author. It’s simply expected that the second book an author writes may not live up to the first.

What about you? Which one do you think is worse?

(eller inlägget Along Came a Steven nedan)

Men.

Along came a spiderboken har förtryckt ‘’This book belongs to” och under det en tom rad.

First Sentence: Early on the morning of December 21, 1992, I was the picture of contentment on the sun porch of our house on 5th Street in Washington, D.C.

I finally made myself sit down for a couple hours and finish the last 250 pages or so. I’m glad I did.

Along Came A Spider was really good in the fact that the plot was creative and unique, and it was fresh. The book was bad in… every other fact. I’m sorry to say that this will be the first and last book I’ll read in the Alex Cross series. At least, for any amount of time. I have other books that look to be 10 times better.

Why was this book so bad, you’re asking? Yes, the plot was good. It really was. And yes, I told you that it was starting to pick up around the 100th page. But after about 50 pages of it being very interesting and shocking, it dwindled back down into just a bunch of horribly written and put together words. Then, it picked up again about 200 pages later. But that only lasted for about 30 pages.

James Patterson has always been my favorite author. After reading this book, I wonder why that is. I’m giving him the benefit of the doubt here and saying that this was one of his first books, so he didn’t have the experience he does today with writing. But if Maximum Ride: Angel Experiment isn’t any good, the title of my favorite author is going to be gladly handed over to Stephenie Meyer.

I can only rate this book 2 out of 5 stars. It was creative, but the characterization, setting, and altogether feel of the book fell flat. I don’t recommend this book to anyone.

Från 2 augusti 2008

Steven från Along Came a Spider

På skivan The Last Temptation får vi möta Steven igen i typ tonåren.

Spider lämnar dem även inlindade i silkestråd. You trap, you kill, you eat – that’s what a good spider does”.

Morgan freeman reprises his kiss the girls role as detective alex cross teaming with a beautiful secret service agent to try and stop a brilliant psychopath from committing the crime of the century. Studio: Paramount Home Video Release Date: 08/22/2006 Starring: Morgan Freeman Michael Wincott Run time: 103 minutes Rating: R

After an obligatory prologue in which its detective hero suffers a tragic professional setback, Along Came a Spider sets about its business of luring the viewer into its nefarious plot, relying on the magician’s technique of misdirection to reveal a double-whammy surprise. The clever, late-coming plot twist is a bit too mechanical but effectively unexpected, making this a satisfying prequel to the hit thriller Kiss the Girls–based on the first of James Patterson’s Alex Cross detective novels–and a welcomed addition to a promising movie franchise. It’s no better or worse than a good vintage episode of Peter Falk’s Columbo, adhering closely to the mystery-thriller’s time-honored traditions, but with Morgan Freeman settling comfortably into his role as seasoned sleuth Alex Cross, familiar formula is given fresh vitality.

When a senator’s daughter is kidnapped from her high-security private school, the kidnapper (nicely played by the underrated Michael Wincott) draws Cross into the case, knowing that the psychologist-detective’s involvement will bring high-profile publicity. Cross partners with the Secret Service agent (Monica Potter) who botched her assignment, but wait… the movie’s got a rabbit in its hat… and that rabbit has an ace up its sleeve… and director Lee Tamahori (who brought similar intensity to The Edge) handles the sleight-of-hand with slick precision, dispensing just enough information to keep the viewer off guard without resorting to cheap manipulation. Don’t look for much depth of character here, but Along Came a Spider is well served by everyone involved. It’s the movie equivalent of a bestseller you’d impulsively buy at the grocery-store checkout, and on those terms it succeeds. –Jeff Shannon

A super adventure of heroic proportions, this crowd-pleasing hit from Walt Disney Pictures stars Hollywood favorites Kurt Russell and Kelly Preston! The son of legendary heroes Commander (Russell) and Jetstream (Preston), young Will Stronghold carries huge expectations as he enters a high-tech high school known for molding the heroes of tomorrow. With no apparent superpowers of his own, however, Will seems destined to grow up a mere sidekick. But as he discovers his true strengths, he’ll also learn that it takes loyalty and teamwork to truly become a hero!

The idea of a high school for superheroes will appeal to teens and preteens, who struggle powerlessly with petty authoritarians, bullying peers, and their own rampant hormones, and Sky High spotlights young Will Stronghold (Michael Angarano, Lords of Dogtown), the son of top-of-the-heap superheroic couple the Commander (Kurt Russell, Tango & Cash) and Josie Jetstream (Kelly Preston, View from the Top). Unfortunately, though he’s about to be dropped into the midst of kids who can stretch, turn to living stone, or shoot fire, Will has yet to develop any powers at all–and may never develop them. His development anxieties (and some entertaining metaphors for high school social hierarchies) contrast with a bubbling plot by an old foe of the Commander’s to destroy Sky High and all of superhero-dom. Sky High has a great supporting cast (including Bruce Campbell, Army of Darkness; Dave Foley, NewsRadio; Lynda Carter, Wonder Woman; and Cloris Leachman, Young Frankenstein) and a handful of funny, offhand bits, but the bulk of the movie is bland and obvious. Younger kids may not mind the clumsy action scenes, generic dialogue, and tacky production design, but even comic-book-loving teenagers will label Sky High bargain-basement. –Bret Fetzer

A family of three brutally murdered in the projects of Washington, D.C. The thrill-killing of a beautiful elementary school teacher. A psychopathic serial kidnapper/murderer who calls himself the Son of Lindbergh. He is so terrifying that the FBI, the Secret Service, and the police cannot outsmart him-even after he’s been captured.Gary Soneji is a mild-mannered mathematics teacher at a Washington, D.C., private school for the children of the political and social elite. He’s so popular that the kids all call him “Mr. Chips.” And he’s very, very smart. Growing up, he always knew he was smarter than the rest of them-he knew that the Great Ones always fooled everybody. He kidnaps Maggie Rose, the golden-haired daughter of a famous movie actress, and her best friend, Shrimpie Goldberg, the son of the secretary of the treasury, right out from under the noses of their two Secret Service agents. But Gary Soneji is not surprised at his skill. He’s done it before. Hundreds of times before.Alex Cross must face the ultimate test as a psychologist: how do you outmaneuver a brilliant psychopath? Especially one who appears to have a split personality-one who won’t let the other half remember those horrific acts?Soneji has outsmarted the FBI, the Secret Service, and the police. Who will be his next victim?

American high society rag Forbes has released what it deems to be the top 10 highest paid authors today.

Released last month there are few surprises as to who tops the list. J.K. Rowling took the number one slot earning an estimated $300 million with her closest rival, detective novelist, James Patterson (Along came a Spider) earning only $50 million.

Writing mainstays Stephen King, Tom Clancy and Danielle Steel make up the rest of the top five, proving their books are as popular than ever (and as predictable and dusty to – Ed). Could this be down to the fact they are half price every Christmas in the WH Smiths sale?

Will Rowling rake in the same amount next year now her Harry Potter series has come to a close? One thing is certain, she has set a president for high earnings in the literary world.

Here is the top 10:

JK Rowling, $300m

James Patterson – $50m

Stephen King – $45m

Tom Clancy – $35m

Danielle Steel – $30m

John Grisham – $25m (tie)

Dean Koontz – $25m (tie)

Ken Follett – $20m

Janet Evanovich – $17m

Nicholas Sparks – $16m

For all you Harry Potter fans out there, and we know there must be some, we have pinched and pasted all five parts from the amazing documentary about the author by James Runcie below. The filmmaker spent a year following the author as she penned the final installment in the Potter series. Enjoy:

You can download those here. Don’t forget to leave some love.

I also added these to my DID store. You can find them in our new $1 bin.

They’re perfect for adding a special date to our layouts. The preview came out really crappy when I resized it, but I promise they look better in person lol

That’s it for now. Take care!
