So, this is the part they don’t tell you….

I lost an ear gel the other day. They’re cheap pieces of rubber that pop off, and one of them had popped off – never to be found again. Not a problem, I thought – it should be quite cheap to buy spares.

Nope.

It might be cheap – if you could actually buy them! But ebay don’t do them, Altec Lansing and Plantronics don’t do then… No-one does them.

I’ve emailed Altec Lansing support, and they *did* say “No problem, we’ll post you some replacements”. It was a US support tech, however, so I’m waiting to hear his response when he sees my UK postal address.

I’ve purchased this Altec Lansing Bluetooth headphone call Backbeat something and had some serious concern about it, now let me run thru here.

This device paired up relatively easily with my iPhone and the transmission was interruption-free. But that’s about all the plus that I can say about this device. In terms of sound quality it can’t compare at all to my razer ear bud headphone that I’m using now. The clarity was there but it leaked so much sound that all the bass was gone. And the background noise kept interrupting the music. Dam frust, and end up turning the volume quite high, which is, bad for your hearing la! Dam disappointed and somemore cost s$149. In the end I can only use it in the gym ;( I think even gym is also too noisy for this headphone :/ *sigh* maybe just use it at home…

Yesterday my colleague manage to rekindled my interest on Facebook. So this morning when communting on the bus, I download the facebook apps onto my iphone and activated my already registered account there and then. And for the rest of the day in office, we were busy comparing our facebook profile, upload pictures, shoot comment on each others post, etc. I manage to build it with an assortment of tools available in the site. I think I shan’t disclose the link here in order to preserve my humble modesty

I’m so loving this iPhone cos it can do so much more! I’m even able to typed out this entry while stucked in a slow moving traffic towards home! and the battery life is quite resonable too. Unlike LG arena, it wouldn’t die on me suddenly when it was suppose to be half charged.

Typing on iPhone is the easiest so far! (I’ve used LG ARENA & samsung omnia) the built-in dictionary had saved my typing time and corrected plenty of typos too… And of course the speedy interface wouldn’t put your patient to the test.

Ok, that about it for this wonderful Friday evening. Byeee:)

It’s called the “Asspeaker” and it’s probably not for your average home. The main unit is the subwoofer and the control station. The smaller units are speakers and connect to the controller through bluetooth technology, they work as single cheek units and can be connected to store as one small butt. To activate the unit, one must tap the unit.

THE GEISHA ASS IS ALSO SLEEK AND SMOOTH

Tap the main unit to turn the speakers on. Once tapped, the unit shows that it’s received the command with a small red light (kind of like what happens when a cheek is smacked). This light goes away after three seconds. Rubbing the unit on either cheek in a circular motion turns the sound up (rotating right), and turns the sound down (rotating left.)

NO SMACKING OF THE ASSPEAKERS PLEASE...

Altec Lansing seems to be onto something: making powerful little speaker systems that not only look gorgeous, but sound sublime. And the latest in its Expressionist series, these Ultra speakers, happily follow the trend. Blasting out 200W through separate bass, midrange and treble amplifiers, it packs a 6.5in front-firing long-throw woofer and 3in drivers. But sound aside, could it look any better? (Answer: Yes, but only if it was sat between Megan Fox’s legs)

Last Wednesday evening Text 100 Sydney held its third annual Xmas in August event. The event is designed for vendors (and not just Text 100 clients) to showcase their products to the industry media.

Held in August of each year, the timing is designed so that the long lead media can get all the information they need to compile their Xmas gift guides.

This year the event was held in the Bavarian Bier Cafe in the Sydney CBD (yes we have German beer halls here!) and the stein glasses were overflowing with wheat beer as more than 100 journalists from the IT, technology, consumer and digital lifestyle sectors roamed the beer hall sampling the latest wares from Plantronics, Altec Lansing, Dyson, Maxwell, Electrolux, Nikon and Phillips.

We were fortunate enough this year to also be graced with the beautiful presence of former Miss Universe Australia and Plantronics brand ambassador Erin McNaught who, aside from her official duties with Plantronics, also assisted Antonia and Lukas with the drawing of the lucky door prizes to the eagerly awaiting throng of media.

While not of former Miss Universe acclaim we were also graced with the presence of Text 100’s global Chief Operating Officer and former Text 100 Sydney managing consultant Andrew McGregor who ensured that the tinsel was hung correctly and operational costs were kept in check

An interesting addition this year was ‘Innuendo Man’ – a scantily clad male model, employed by Phillips, who roamed the event all evening with their latest male body shaving product (or man-scaping as we say here Down Under) getting unsuspecting journalists (and a few Text 100 staff) to shave his body hair. He started the evening rather hirsute and finished off totally smooth, well almost totally smooth anyway!

Several famous people past away in 2008. The one I was most upset about was George Carlin. He was the best at bitching, proving a point and making you laugh, all at the same time. He never left anyone out and he never apologized.

One of my favorite Carlin rants started with:

“Here are some more people with missing chromosomes who ought to be thrown screaming from a helicopter.”

No, I don’t actually think I’m funny, let alone as funny as he was, but here’s a list of 9 people I could do without. 5 is my favorite for so many reasons, but 1, 2, and 9 are good runner ups. I don’t expect people to read this at all let alone all at once, it’s kind of long.

1. Cheap assholes

I’m not talking about people who shop at Costco/Sam’s Club and use coupons or market discount cards. The economy sucks and most people used these same items even when it didn’t. I’m talkin’ about the prick that stops the entire social gathering to split .39 cents evenly. They tip 8% and proceed to bitch when the waitress chases ‘em down in the parking lot with a handgun. These same people blindly drive 30 miles out of their way to save .03 cents on a gallon of gas.

2. Parents who name their kids…

Speaking of the market; during a recent trip I was nearly killed by a speeding brat on the loose in aisle 5; the little fucker had those shoes with the roller skate in the heels. The mom, 30 seconds too late to stop him from totaling a Q-tip display, comes chasing after him screaming, “Hunter! Get back here, behave yourself! Hunter!!!”

Okay lady… you named him “Hunter”

I’m all for being original, different, not the status quo; whatever, but a pretentious name like “Hunter” is going to cause problems for the kid when he’s not a kid anymore. You know? Like when he finally leaves the house, without you, in a car that isn’t your fuckin’ minivan or glorified station wagon. You’re not some stuck up debutant who comes from old money. You’re in an average blue collar county in the Midwest, shopping for food next door to an H & R Block and an auto parts store. I’m willing to bet “Hunter” won’t have many friends with names like Biff, Blair, Chase, Gavin or any other Country Club influenced cluster fuck of a noun. If that were my name I would have at least strangled a bunny by now! He’s never going to listen to you and he just may grow up to like boys. For future reference, when you’re interviewed by the local news, he may become known by his first, middle and last name (i.e., John Wayne Gacy) Smooth…

Every girl I’ve ever met named Misty or Crystal were stock raving whores! I’m not kidding. You know who I mean; that girl you went to high school with that you run into at the strip club? Oops, yeah… she works there; obviously for far too long. Of course, she’s in nursing school, raising her son to be a bouncer. As she’s telling you this, pretending to be proud of her efforts, she keeps rubbing her nose and twitching a little. The owner’s in the background with a clipboard and a camera taking notes on why he needs to get rid of her. She’s all bruised and cranky, shaking her stretch marks to Mötley Crüe, barely keepin’ up with the song…

3. Bitches who just lost 10lbs or more

Carlin never took anything back, but I have to… Let me start by saying that I only used the word “Bitches” for potential laughter, I’m not a pig, I’m very respectful and I don’t name call. I also don’t date or find myself attracted to the opposite sex strictly based on looks. If you’ve got the personality of a dead battery I can’t handle it. I’ve dated girls that were big, small, short and tall alike, but they usually had something to add to the conversation other than “Yeah, me too.”

Anyway…

I’ve met a few girls who were over weight and insecure as a result. I get it and to be honest, up until about five years ago, if you weighed more than 100lbs you were considered fat and unattractive. Seriously, it’s sad and unfair, in my opinion. On the other hand, just because you figured out a way to peel off a few L.B.’s doesn’t mean everyone needs to bow down to your original and rediscovered ass and its subsequent crack. I remember one girl who popped pills all day to get and keep her new figure. Now, just because she could see her shoes and blink without breaking a sweat she acted like she was better than everyone; funny. One can only hope the straight jacket fit and the room’s padding was thick enough in the end. As long as you don’t breathe like Darth Vader and smell like hot garbage, the average nice guy couldn’t care less about how big or small you are; within reason. Yeah, sorry folks, we can only get so deep. If you have “folds” in which hiding a PS3 isn’t impossible, we may not be able to get it up; even in the dark after a night of heavy drinking. With other people in mind and in my opinion, you should lose weight for you; because it’s healthier and more fun to shop for clothing. If you weigh anywhere between 85 and 150lbs; give or take a D-cup and a bubble butt here and there, the industry has you more than covered, or not covered so to speak. Everyone else is fucked. Don’t lose weight because of men or because you’re getting married next month. Yes, it’s hard work and it takes dedication and stamina, but I hope it’s for the right reasons.

4. People who talk during movies

This one’s important and I’m completely serious… STFU! A movie ticket spans anywhere from $5 to $10 and I want to see and hear every second of whatever film I’ve gambled on. Things have gotten so bad that theatres use specific advertisements to tell everyone to tape it shut before the movie starts. You may see this as a little excessive, but even the trailers are part of it for some people. Close your mouth, put your cell phone on “vibrate” and hit the kids with a tazer before it all starts. If you can’t handle it, most movies are out on DVD and Blur-Ray within three or four months of their theatrical release. Stay home!

5. Compulsive liars

Everyone in the world is sorry that your childhood sucked and you have a little dick. With that said, feeling bad for you and being gullible are two completely different things. No one believes that you don’t need a passport and don’t have to go through customs when you travel internationally. James Bond and the fucking President of the United States have to show I.D.; so do you! You’re full of shit; stop talking. No, you’re not a part-time hit man and no, your car can’t do that. Just with my limited musical knowledge, three artists have all made fun of you in their own creative manners…

If you insist on bullshitting someone, stick to your husband/wife and kids. Spare complete strangers, people in customer service roles and the unfortunate assholes who pretend they like you on a day-to-day basis. Making up a story about how, in 2004, you out shot Payne Stewart in a 9-hole pick up game and fucked a dragon the next morning may put your life in danger. Payne Stewart died on an airborne Lear jet in October of 1999 and a dragon would seriously fuck you up if they existed. Plus, people are getting less and less tolerant of other people’s shenanigans and may just put you out of everyone’s misery. And let’s face it, your death would be tragic. God knows the world needs your telekinetic powers to push the sun back far enough to save earth from its inevitable explosion. Where’s your cape, you fag? You’re my fuckin’ hero!

6. People who hate foreign cars/automakers

I want to preface this with the fact that I grew up in Detroit and I don’t see everyone in the auto industry, union and otherwise, as lazy people. I have hard working friends and family who would make me disappear if they knew I even joked about it. Things are the way they are due to the short sited thought process and planning of people who make far too much money and don’t give back. We need people like Lee Iacocca who can take his genius and direct the American auto industry to new and smarter directions.

Anyway…

Let me start by saying I’ve owned two American cars and two Japanese cars. I get it, buy American and you keep us financially safe, represent your country and maintain its freedom. Oh, but wait, what happened to RCA, Zenith, Frigidaire and American Motors (AMC)? They were American brands and are no longer. AMC was absorbed by Chrysler back in 1987 which subsequently got raped by Daimler Benz just recently. Chrysler let a German company come in (which is ok, I guess), take over (fuck) and bail (not ok), calling it a merger and leaving the automaker in shambles. American companies started outsourcing and shipping jobs overseas quite some time ago. They sent hundreds of thousands of hard working people home without a dime or a future and they did it to send production to China to increase profits. GM, Ford and Chrysler aren’t the first ones to do it. Now other countries have figured out how to pay, keep people happy and keep production costs down, while America continues to fall asleep and the wheel of progress and technology. You, I and everyone else who owns anything have all contributed, because we were raised to believe that, somehow, this was the American dream. Don’t get pissed now, because you can’t make $50 to 70k a year for bolting aluminum wheels to an over priced polished turd and sleeping in the john anymore; reality is setting in. In addition, if you really want to support your cause, go home and set your Laptop, TV, DVD player, microwave and-

Just get the wife and kids out of the house and torch the place. Everything is made some where else! Automobiles are one of the few remaining, mass produced and tangible product this country creates. We have the capability to compete, but we’ve been getting owned in the segment by Toyota and Honda and now Nissan again every year for the last 20 plus. If it wasn’t the lack in quality of the car it was the lack in quality of the service to maintain said car. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve had my Japanese bucket fail me on several occasions. My friends, in their American made vehicles, have had to pick me up on the side of the road. To my defense, I got taken care of when it was all over; quickly and with a smile at that. I blew through 3rd gear when I learned how to drive stick on my 2001 Civic. This was my lack of experience, not the quality of the car. I gave it to the dealer around 4:30 or so on Thursday afternoon. Less than 24 hours later, they installed a brand new transmission and called me to let me know it was finished… That transmission came from California that day, by the way. The only way to get service even close to that from an American car company is to sacrifice a small child and spend $50,000 or more. Keep this in mind though; MSRP on the first Cadillac CTS was roughly $38,000 give or take a few option packages. Less than two years later, with low miles, that same car sold for $19 grand… Seriously? 50% depreciation in 24 months; WTF? My 1996 Grand Am had so many issues, most of them due to the work done by the dealer, that I ended up taking the division and two dealerships to court to get the money to repair the car correctly. That same year, a brand new Honda Civic Si sold for $17000 and 10 years later, even with high mileage, this cheap and reliable entry level car, was still going for quadruple digits. I saw one on Auto trader, from a private seller, with 70,000 miles for $12,000. Compare that to the supposed equivalent in your Cavaliers, Cobalts and G5s. Do the math, figure it out and get moving or this country is screwed.

7. People who put spoilers on pick-up trucks.

Okay, here’s the honest to god truth. This may not be common knowledge, but 95% of the spoilers mounted to the trunk of every passenger vehicle known to man aren’t functional. Spoilers were designed to keep performance cars such as Porsches and Ferraris on the road when they hit certain speeds. Pop culture and marketing toolboxes figured out that spoilers looked cool on certain cars even if they didn’t actually do anything. Vehicle designers even started making cars look plain retarded without them (See 1992 – 2005 Pontiac Grand Am for an example). So, we move on… A spoiler on the back of a pick-up truck is the single dumbest thing ever allowed in the history of the automobile; that and the Yugo. Flossin’ in a pick-up is the aerodynamic equivalent of nudging a brick down a ramp on sandpaper with your tongue! Some semi-trucks have a lower drag coefficient! The air traveling over the windshield and the cab doesn’t get anywhere near the bed of a truck; mounting a spoiler to a fiberglass bed cover is doing less than a hooker on Easter Sunday… Let it go!

8. Impatient ass clowns

Don’t rush me… Unless you’re on fire or choking on a fucking Chicken McNugget, don’t try to make me move faster! It’ll get done, we’ll get there and it’s almost over. I, like most people, rush at work, school and sometimes even in traffic. I’m not slow or lazy; give me the common courtesy of finishing my beer, my game and even my god damned conversation!

9. People who hold up traffic for stupid shit
So, I’m driving down a local freeway the other day and traffic comes to an airbag deploying stop. I wasn’t surprised given the time of day, but it seemed odd for that particular stretch of the highway. I finally get to where the hold up is and notice that everyone is stopping to watch the finale of a very minor car accident. A cop and a couple victims were on the side of the road figuring out who was going to take it in the ass from their insurance company the hardest. That was it! Why do we have to stop and look? Stopping to see if you can see someone’s face on the hood of a car or if the cop shot someone is plain stupid. You’re holding everyone up and potentially causing more traffic incidents. Unless a werewolf jumps out of one the cars and starts eating people there’s nothing to see. If you’re that determined to see something, hit You Tube when you get home!

Seminggu yang lalu saya baru beli notebook HP compaq presario cq40-337 tanpa OS pastinya, hehehe.. saya memang kurang suka penjajahan microsoft di notebook-notebook yang beredar di pasaran saat ini. sebisa mungkin saya selalu nyari yang tanpa OS, selain harganya yang relatif lebih miring, tentu saja karena I love Linux dan pengen me-linux-kan adik (walaupun dia belum bisa linux, akan saya paksa dia pake linux..hehe..dari pada dia di jajah mikocok mending gue aja yang  jajah dia..hi..hi..hi..).

Setelah berhasil menginstall kubuntu di notebook ini (sebenernya saya gnome lover, tp menarik juga nyoba KDE sesekali), alhamdulillah semua driver terdeteksi dengan baik kecuali driver sound card altec lansing. walhasil saya harus puas mengakhiri proses installasi tanpa suara..hiks.. namun setelah browsing-browsing alhamdulillah dapat solusi dari mas trimo kira-kira berikut ini adalah tutorial untuk menambahkan driver sound card altec lansing di kubuntu 9.04

edit file /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf

tambahkan script dibawah ini di paling bawah alsa-base.conf

alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel

alias sound-slot-0 snd-hda-intel

options snd-hda-intel model=dell-m4-1

options snd-hda-intel enable_msi=1

kemudian edit juga file /etc/group

temukan script audio:x:29:pulse

dan tambahkan user login seperti ini audio:x:29:[user_login],pulse

dalam kasus ini saya menambahkan menjadi audio:x:29:m42h31,pulse

setelah selesai jangan lupa untuk di save kemudian restart notebooknya..
