Myles Kennedy revealed on his Myspace blog, that he will be releasing a solo album, whilst his bandmates from Alter Bridge are on tour with then reformed Creed.

Así mismo cómo leen, pasando por alto las declaraciones que haría Mark Tremonti (guitarrista) a sus fanáticos (como yo) de “no volver a juntarse jamás”, después de los rumores de su reunión en abril del presente año, y luego de haber entrado al estudio en mayo para comenzar con las grabaciones para su cuarto álbum Full Circle, quien debe su nombre según Tremonti, a la reunión de los primeros miembros de la banda, recordando que Brian Marshall (bajista) fuese expulsado de la agrupación en el año 2000, quien luego pasaría a formar parte de Alter Bridge, actual banda de los ex-miembros de Creed junto al vocalista Myles Kennedy.

Desde el pasado 27 de octubre ya está a la venta en nuevo material de la legendaria banda de rock cristiano y una de mis favoritas Creed, luego de su última súper producción Weathered (2002). El álbum ha sido producido bajo la licencia de Wind Up Records, la misma disquera que se encargó de producir sus dos últimos trabajos, incluyendo también la producción como solista de Scott Stapp (vocalista) The Great Divide (2005) y One day remains (2004) de Alter Bridge. Full Circle nos llega de la mano del productor Howard Benson cuyo trabajo se puede apreciar en grupos como Adema, Daugtry, Motörhead, My Chemical Romance, Papa Roach, P.O.D, Sheeter, Three Days Grace, Theory of a Dead Man entre otros.

Las criticas no se han hecho esperar de este nuevo material, en donde por un lado la revista Toro calificaría 1.5 de 5.0 en rating, comentando: “Full Circle es grande y tonto, por supuesto, pero también es imperdonablemente aburrido”. Así como por su parte los usuarios de Ultimate Guitar les darían un rating de 8 en la escala de 10.

El primer sencillo titulado “Overcome” llegaría a estar en el puesto #67 de Billboard Digital Songs, por su parte el álbum Full Circle debutaría en el puesto #2 detrás del álbum de Michael Jackson This is it, en el Billboard 200 y vendiendo 110.000 copias sólo en EEUU en su primera semana de lanzamiento, nada mal para un reencuentro.

Slash has announced via Twitter that Myles Kennedy of  Alter Bridge to sing on the final track of his solo album.

He said:

“This track is awesome, it completes the record, Myles did an amazing job and the song is fucking great.”

Sounds cool, I really like Myles as a singer, can’t wait for the album to be released.

La banda norteamericana Creed acaba de sacar nuevo disco, su nombre es Full Circle, y además significa la reunión de un grupo que nunca debió disolverse. Creed ha sido un grupo que desde sus inicios tuvo sus detractores, primero por las comparaciones en la voz del cantante y líder de la banda, Scott Stapp, y el mítico Eddie Vedder de Pearl Jam; no voy a negar que la primera canción que escuché de Creed me pareció de Pearl Jam, pero también hay que decir que a partir del segundo disco, su voz no es que cambiase, lo que cambio es el sonido en general del grupo, pasó de un sonido muy próximo al grunge, a un sonido más actual, un hard rock melódico con sello propio.

Otra de las causas por las que este grupo fue muy criticado es por ser tildado de un grupo de Rock Cristiano (Christian Rock), craso error, hay gente que confunde los churros con las merinas, el hecho de que no hubiese tacos ni contenido antisistema en las canciones de Creed y que, por el contrario, hubiese letras trabajadas y que tuviesen un trasfondo esperanzador, hizo que los supuestos entendidos en la materia les pusiesen el cartel de grupo “cristiano”. Menos mal que parece que esa moda de que salga la pegatinita de marras del “Parental Advisory” ha pasado a mejor vida y cada vez son más los grupos que se preocupan más en currarse unas buenas letras en lugar de acudir a lo fácil que es soltar tacos y protestar contra el sistema.

Myles Kennedy aporta una sonoridad muy especial a Alter Bridge

Hay que recordar que durante los años en los que Creed estuvieron separados, ningún miembro de la banda se quedó en su casa a mirar a las musarañas. Scott Stapp sacó un disco en solitario de gran calidad, aunque a decir verdad tenía un sonido demasiado parecido a Creed, se llamaba The Great Divide. Por su parte, el resto de músicos del grupo formaron una nueva banda con un nuevo cantante, la banda se llama Alter Bridge y el cantante se llama Myles Kennedy, fichado de la banda Mayfield Four, esta unión dio como resultado una de las mejores bandas de los últimos años en USA, con dos discos de una sonoridad increíble: One Day Remains y Blackbird. La voz de Kennedy es algo más aguda que la de Stapp, esto le daba a la guitarra de Mark Tremonti (guitarrista de Creed y Alter Bridge) una armonía perfecta.

La reunión de Creed no significa ni mucho menos una separación de Alter Bridge (¿cómo romper algo tan bueno?) y ya están trabajando en el tercer disco.

Full Circle se puede adquirir desde iTunes, ya que no se sabe cuándo llegará aquí a España, ya se sabe que en este santo país la única música que llega es la que nos machacan una y otra vez en las radios, una pena ya que nos estamos perdiendo muchísimos grupos de una gran calidad:

So I’m fairly certain that 98% of the blog world isn’t giving this album the time of day because…well, it’s Creed. But therein lies a question; what is it about Creed that has earned them so much hate? Usually when I ask this question I’m met with stares, snarky smirks and responses to the effect of “dude, they suck“, without a decent explanation of why. Now look, I get where the hate comes from, but allow me to present an alternative opinion;

The band known as Creed is not half bad. The problem is Creed only released two albums, 1997’s My Own Prison and now this year’s Full Circle. I submit that the other two albums released under the Creed name were actually recorded by Scott Stapp and the Power Chords. The overly ham-handed pseudo-grunge and self-indulgent posturing was the work of an impostor, the Mr. Hyde to their Dr. Jekyll. Anyway, the actual Creed have returned and are reintroducing themselves on this new album, but some of the demons are still lurking and sadly manage to undermine what could have been a promising return for a band whose members deserve more credit than they get.

Full Circle opens with the heavy-hitting lead single “Overcome”, a reminder of why we kept Creed around in the first place. Intricate, loud guitars, bold vocal delivery from Scott Stapp, and a team effort all around. This is what made Creed enjoyable, and thankfully there’s more of this to be found on the record, both in the good and bad moments. “Suddenly” is a ball-buster of a track that features the non-singing members channeling their other project, the (only slightly) better received Alter Bridge. Guitarist Mark Tremonti gets to prove what some of us knew all along; when Scott Stapp isn’t hogging the spotlight, the band itself is actually damn good (save for drummer Scott Phillips, who sleepwalks through most of Full Circle). The solos and nuanced guitar work are frequently the highlight of the album, and far and away better than the half-assed flourishes that complimented Stapp’s moaning for two albums. The title track serves as an effortless example of what happens when the band stops trying so hard and just does the work; even Phillips wakes up long enough to keep this one good.

But that said, Full Circle is nowhere near a great album. As much as I’m amused by Scott Stapp’s superhuman ability to take himself uber-seriously, it gets in the way of songs that could have otherwise been wonderful. “Away in Silence” is a quality song until Stapp delivers the clunker “If my life is the price, then my life it will cost”. And the ballads…oh, God, the ballads. “On My Sleeve” is a full blown return of Scott Stapp and the Power Chords, a cheesy, heavy-handed mess that wreaks from beginning to end. And second single “Rain”, while a logical pick for radio, sounds like a blend of Weathered cuts “One Last Breath” and “Don’t Stop Dancing”, making it as cheesy as it is pandering. And finally, there’s the fatal thought that ruined the enjoyment of the album after one too many meh moments:

Is this the reason that Alter Bridge III is delayed till 2010?

Yes, it would appear that Full Circle came at the expense of Alter Bridge’s next album, still in production, but on the backburner. Now, on a bad day Alter Bridge is just as guilty of the things people hate Creed for. But at their best Alter Bridge is purely fantastic. And precious few moments on Full Circle live up to that standard, meaning that even though Creed walks away from this a winner, fans of both bands end up a little gipped.

Alter Bridge é uma banda de metal alternativo/post-grunge dos Estados Unidos, formada em 2004 a partir da separação da banda Creed. O nome faz referência a uma ponte na cidade natal do líder/guitarrista, Mark Tremonti, lugar que era sempre proibido de ir por sua mãe. Fazendo alusão então a ir além dos limites impostos, tomar um outro rumo.
