I just got light of a new procedure that is in its last stage (phase 3) of human trials and India and is a promising offer to control major problems of unwanted pregnancy and overpopulation (i.e. Africa, China, and India; which is set to surpass China as the most populous country by 2030. With the average poor woman giving birth to 4 children in her lifetime).

Reversible Inhibition of Sperm Under Guidance (RISUG) developed by Dr. Sujoy Guhu while he worked IIT Kharagpur in India. RISUG is an injectable compound that partially blocks the vas deferens (the tube that carries the sperm, which is usually clipped at both ends in a tradition vasectomy). The out-patient procedure done under local anesthesia takes 15 minutes and is affective immediately and can give effective contraception for up to 10 years (60mg injection).

The compounds composed in RISUG are styrene maleic anhydride (SMA) complexed with the solvent dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO). I know you chemisty, molecular biology people are saying hey isn’t SMA toxic, yes by itsself it is thats why the DMSO is used as a solvent.

The procedure is reversible by flushing the vas deferens with another injection of dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO). And that my friends is what makes the procedure so much more promising to the ears and thoughts of men young and old because they can regain that freedom of procreation when they consider necessary.

Often times we put all the emphasis on women contraceptives; the pill or i.e.d. But now its an opportunity for men to take more responsibility for their sexual behavior.

If it ever gets approval in the U.S. I would actually get this procedure done
