“3 words” is Cheryl Coles first solo album. It’s so different from any Girls Aloud album I have heard. The music styles of the album is heavy in R&B, Pop, and House. I usually am not a big fan of R&B and thats what this album mainly is before anything else. I knew this before the album was released and still downloaded it because of my appreciation for Cole. I enjoy the album the most in the mornings when I’m starting my day. I would suggest this album to anyone who enjoys softer dance beats.  Track 10 “Boy Like You” is probably my favorite. I hope that Cheryl is able to breakthrough in the American music market because I think that she could do wonderous things here.

Woke up this morning with my boyfriend and bestie  to watch the exclusive premier of Gaga’s Bad Romance video. I was fortunate enough to see a 28 sec clip of the video the other day so I already had an idea of how cool it was going to be. She does a lot of choreography and incorporates a lot of old-school dance moves. Awesome. I have come to the conclusion that gaga has been sent to earth from another planet to save Pop music. LOL. Anyway, watch the video make your own  judgment. Prepare to be wowed because this video is very different from all the rest!!

Eurodance, often called Dancefloor in Europe, is a genre that focuses on heavy and exciting danceable beats. Usually there is a male rapper and female for the chorus. E-Rotic — being one of my personal favorites — is a prime example of Dancefloor. When I expose E-Rotic to people at first they are taken back by the very VERY  sexual-as-hell lyrics.  (My lova lova lova King Kong do it right Oh Baby ! It’s a ping pong deep inside I want your ding I want your dong I want your ringa ding dong My King Kong). Honestly though these lyrics were not written to be taken seriously. You want a serious pop song you look up new queen diva Lady Gaga….. Seriously don’t just listen to what you hear on the radio, or even the album, seriously listen to her live stuff. Bitch will move you and make you think different about pop music almost guaranteed. Anyway, when it comes to Eurodance, the lyrics are just a fun bonus — for me it’s the beat. My mind is going a mile a minute, way too fast for a normal reality. But when I listen to the fast pace happy music my mind is finally able to keep up and for once I’m able to relax because my mind doesn’t feel like it’s in a hurry.

OK, this is going to be a regular post here on Thumpa Thumpa! It kind of inspired this whole project. My bestie and roommate Ace will be managing these posts.

It’s Ace here. So, a little about us. I live with Alvi and Paul. We’re pop junkies. Now, Alvi’s been a pop fanatic since god knows when, but I’m kind of new at the whole thing. In fact, it is just my recent fascination with Lady Gaga that gotten me pulled in. But I’ve never met anyone with quite as much passion for the pop stuff as Alvi – I mean, I’ve seen him, chillin’ upside down on our couch one summer afternoon, recite Britney’s discography, with chart details and fun facts, from Baby One More Time to now, off the top of his head.

Anyway, then there’s Paul. He’s the suave, goofy  good looking one. (Ha, we’re all good looking, don’t worry I know.) Me and him kind of just feed off each other because we are both obsessed with Gaga right now.  To make a long story short me and Paul have been friends for ever and he starting dating Alvi a little over 3 years ago. Since then, we’ve been inseparable! (Haha, ok maybe that’s making the story wayyy too short, but no need to go into the gory details of it all, right?)

So me, paul and alvi like to hang out with mary and talk pop. It just sorta happens. We could be talking about the day we had at work, and the conversation turns to the latest Gaga performance or news, or what’s going on with Britney and the other divas. Sometimes it gets ugly and we debate. Sometimes we get a deeper than we thought we ever could on the subject. We find it rather humorous, and usually interesting. So, what we’re going to do here is transcribe those conversations, maybe even post audio every once in a while, for your interest.

1986 January:

The Brain boot sector virus (aka Pakistani flu) is released. Brain is considered the first IBM PC compatible virus, and the program responsible for the first IBM PC compatible virus epidemic. The virus is also known as Lahore, Pakistani, Pakistani Brain, as it was created in Lahore, Pakistan by 19-year-old Pakistani programmer, Basit Farooq Alvi, and his brother, Amjad Farooq Alvi.

History:

Some ten years ago, two unknown brothers from “Chahmiran” a lower middle class area of Lahore shot to prominence as a brief message started to flash across thousand of computer screens in the USA. “Welcome to the Dungeon (c) 1986 Basit * Amjad (pvt) Ltd. BRAIN COMPUTER SERVICES 730 NIZAM BLOCK ALLAMA IQBAL TOWN LAHORE-PAKISTAN PHONE: 430791,443248,280530. Beware of this VIRUS…. Contact us for vaccination…” In no time at all, corporate America was in a fix. Unsure of what the message meant, or what its implications could be, American computer users panicked and the tiny 3.5 kilobyte virus was immediately dubbed as the first alien assault on American computer culture. As Ross Monroe of Time magazine shuttled between Singapore, Delhi and Lahore, desperately trying to figure out the size of the ’story’, the architects of the Brain virus were completely unaware of their handiwork. Amjad, Shahid and Basit Alvi, the three co-directors of Brain Computer Services, were too busy trying to expand their share of the tiny but rapidly growing computer market in Pakistan to notice what their little virus had led to. “When we were contacted by Time magazine, we were extremely surprised at panic it had caused,” says Basit the youngest of the Alvi brothers. ” In fact, we were quite amused since the panic was totally unnecessary.” That, however, was not how Time magazine had described the proliferation of the Brian virus. ” Bah!” retorts Basit. “Since that episode, we have lost all faith in the western media. They quoted us out of context, put words in our mouths and did just about everything that you would expect from a cheap local publication run by one’s arch rival. When we read the story we could hardly believe that it was carried in what is supposed to be the best news magazine in the world. It was journalism at its yellowest.” Basit’s contempt is not unfounded. What no American journal had the courage to admit at that time was how badly the virus had hurt America’s painfully cultivated image of the world’s leading copyright protector. Almost overnight, it had shown Americans to be the world’s biggest copyright violators. Every time the virus found a new home in the USA, it signaled one more copyright violation by an American. The stair created by the Brain virus dies down as soon as American realized that they were only hurting themselves by calling for action against the authors. But for the Alvi brothers, it marked the beginning of one of Pakistan’s most innovative computer service bureaus.

Chi sotto queste feste se ne sta ben riparato, come me a casa coi miei, tra le colline dove la neve ha attutito ogni cosa, beato di aver salvato dalla gelata i limoni, non è forse adatto a internet. Anche perché a Natale la terra quasi ci respira dentro e ci rende volentieri in grado di bastarci, ma intimi agli altri, più calmi. E invece internet, e in particolare quegli orrori che si chiamano blog, sono tutto l’opposto. Un nervosismo di insulti svogliati, sfoghi di invidia o meschinità di cui si è felici: luoghi precari insomma, dove la coscienza e l’essere desti sono sospesi. Il vivere così fuori mano e isolato peraltro mi costringe a usare internet per lavorare, e spedire articoli come questo. E il non avere neppure la tv in casa, e il giornalaio a troppi chilometri di distanza, rende pure inevitabile usare il computer per leggere le notizie.

E fin lì niente di male. Può forse biasimarsi la loro stringatezza, e la luce del video che non vale la carta sfogliata. Ma un qualche vantaggio c’è. Dove invece si sente solo disagio, e un dolore ulteriore per come sta finendo il mondo, è scorrendo i vari blog. Essi vengono vantati come luoghi d’espressione ideale e comunicazione: nessun elogio insomma gli è risparmiato. A me invece paiono luoghi di frustrazione e sciatteria, nei quali bisognerebbe io credo vergognarsi di scrivere, e certo non inorgoglirsi di averli creati. Invece c’è tutto un culturame e persino il senso comune a elogiarli, a vedere in essi una forma superiore di informazione e democrazia. Ma quelli che valgono qualcosa sono pochi siti a pagamento nei quali si limitano o si cooptano i partecipanti. Gli altri, la maggioranza, invece amplificano solo dei luoghi comuni e non erudiscono in alcun modo. Infatti chi abbia un qualunque mestiere e lo sappia davvero lo vede subito: sui blog si parla di tutto, ma sapendo ben poco, e informando ancor meno. Il loro fine è in effetti un altro: assecondare qualche frasetta, alla quale l’insulto serve da sfogo e surroga svogliatamente pensieri assenti. E peggio ancora: si sente in questo mai firmarsi col suo vero nome di chi invia messaggi una caduta ulteriore. Sia chi sia, impiegato o signora snob, arrabbiati di destra o sinistra, studenti o professorini: tutti costoro scrivono al riparo dell’anonimato cose che mai si direbbero in faccia. Altra diseducazione.

Internet diseduca anzitutto perché solo una persona ch’è già molto colta è in grado di orientarsi nella sua infinità di voci, ma allora non ne ha bisogno. Inoltre peggiora le cose anche perché confonde la parola comunità con un’accozzaglia di insulti, e approssimazioni dette senza responsabilità. Come in certa pessima tv viene pertanto meno il contraddittorio, in cui si disputi con durezza ma con onore: prevale il frastuono. La qual cosa anzi a ben pensarci è più esecrabile pure che in televisione. Perché rende tutto pervadenti, e a disposizione della presunzione di ognuno, l’ignoranza e l’insulto. Insomma il blog non è da persone serie: è un frastuono, che si è assecondato per moda, ma che con la democrazia e l’opinione vera non c’entra. Altro che forma di spontanea resistenza originale: è incolta, svogliata e vile, e soprattutto fatta di ovvietà i cui difetti palesi persino alle povere anime che vi dibattono tra loro, sono colmate dagli insulti.

In conclusione mai come in questi anni si comunica, e però senza dire niente o peggio dicendo quando sarebbe meglio tacere. Il che vale anche per i blog e internet. Ed è bene che s’inizi a dirlo. Tanto più in queste feste di Natale quando i difetti di intimità, verità stonano più che mai.

As torcidas de Flamengo e Botafogo foram ligeiras e, mesmo com o mau tempo da quarta-feira, compraram o que restava dos 68.030 ingressos postos à venda para a grande final do Campeonato Carioca, domingo, às 16h, no Maracanã. Na terça, rubro-negros e alvinegros já haviam mostrado seu ímpeto ao comprarem quase 50 mil bilhetes. Como ainda havia cerca de 11 mil ingressos gratuitos, distribuídos pelas diretorias dos dois clubes, 79 mil pessoas estarão presentes ao estádio na hora em que a bola rolar.

Portanto, quem não conseguiu adquirir sua entrada para o jogão terá que se contentar em assistir pela TV Globo, que transmite ao vivo a partida, a partir das 16h00m, ou reúna os amigos, e façam criem uma Embaixada da Nação!

O Flamengo precisa apenas de um empate para se sagrar bicampeão carioca, já que venceu a primeira partida, domingo passado, dia 27, por 1 a 0. O Botafogo precisa vencer por dois gols de vantagem para levantar a taça. Caso o jogo termine com vantagem mínima para os alvinegros, a decisão será nos pênaltis.

Os jogadores de Botafogo e Flamengo juram que o clima de rivalidade de outrora foi esquecido. Falta explicar aos torcedores. Na manhã desta sexta-feira, cerca de 30 alvinegros foram à Granja Comary apoiar os jogadores no primeiro treino em Teresópolis.

Fizeram festa para os jogadores, cantaram as tradicionais músicas e provocaram – muito – o Flamengo. Um a um, listaram os jogadores adversários e disseram que os alvinegros são superiores: “Castillo é melhor que Bruno”, por exemplo.

Em determinado momento houve tensão. Um flamenguista apareceu com a camisa rubro-negra. Foi bastante ofendido e “convencido” a retirar o uniforme. Assim como na véspera, os jogadores do Bota pregaram a paz.

“Não vamos arrumar confusão porque pode atrapalhar nosso caminho” – diz o atacante Wellington Paulista.

O Botafogo chegou a Teresópolis na noite de sexta-feira para fugir dos comentários cotidianos sobre a decisão.

Apesar da tranqüilidade do hotel e da Granja, os alvinegros aproveitam a estadia na cidade serrana para tietar. Nesta sexta houve até choro de uma torcedora ao abraçar o técnico Cuca.

“Ele é o máximo. Os jogadores passam, mas o Cuca fica” – dizia, enxugando as lágrimas.

Fatto sta che ho trovato praticamente geniale appropriarsi degli slogan dei candidati premier per farne dei cartelloni pubblicitari 6×3 per promuovere il proprio marchio. E’ spaventoso come uno slogan elettorale si possa adattare così bene ad una pubblicità…. complimenti a chi l’ha creata!

Juventus da Itália

A Juventus de Turim teve sua fundação em 1897 e portanto seu centenário há 10 anos atrás na temporada 9798, fundada por um grupo de alunos do colégio Liceo D’Azeglio que na época discutiam a liga inglesa de futebol, praticamente a única existente, e resolveram montar um clube totalmente voltado para a pratica do futebol. O nome do clube se refere a juventude e a força que ela tem, essa era a idéia que os fundadores queriam difundir. É um dos maiores clubes do mundo e seu 1º título foi o de campeão italiano em 1905, depois desse vieram mais 26, porém com os famosos escândalos de compra de resultado 2 deles (0506 e 0607)  foram anulados. Copas da Itália foram 9, Copas da UEFA 3 e UEFA Champions League 2, ambas posteriormente convertidas em títulos mundiais.

Como em toda camisa de centenário há muita história por trás dela. O escudo com as cores da Itália refere-se ao campeonato vencido na temporada anterior 9697, esse é um direito que até os dias de hoje o campeão italiano tem, atualmente algumas camisas da Inter vem com ele no meio entre o símbolo da Nike e o da própria Inter. O de campeão da Copa da Itália é redondo e é defendido pela Roma atualmente. A ausência do símbolo da Juventus na verdade não é tão estranho para a época, o escudo foi implantado pela 1ª vez na história em 1994 na temporada 9495, até lá a Juventus nunca havia colocado o seu escudo na camisa, após mais 2 temporadas com o símbolo ausente a Juv recolocou o escudo na manga da camisa de casa do centenário. O escudo só entrou oficialmente no peito na temporada 9900. Outra coisa curiosa é a cor da camisa, o rosa na verdade era a cor oficial do clube, mas em 1903 surgiu um doutor que havia adorado a camisa, então se ofereceu para trazer peças melhores e importadas da Inglaterra. O tal doutor fez uma encomenda para a fabrica e exigiu as camisas nas cores rosa e preta, porém o infeliz balconista olhou uma foto e achou que o rosa não passava de um branco manchado e fez as camisas nas cores branca e preta. Dizem que quando a encomenda chegou a decepção foi geral, mas como não havia outra maneira foram obrigados a jogar com o uniforme alvinegro que se mantém até hoje. Mas de tempos em tempos aparece uma camisa com rosa se não completamente rosa para homenagear os velhos tempos como essa do centenário.
