I’m 62 going into 63 next December.  During these past six decades, I’ve seen an acceleration of change extremely difficult to cope with.  I think it was Alvin Toffler who brought this subject up in one of his classical books.  He called it “future shock.” Toffler’s shortest definition of future shock is a personal perception of  “too much change in too short a period of time“.

Together with is wife Heidi—who is also a writer and a futurist—Toffler has discussed in length, the digital revolution, the communication revolution, the corporate revolution and technological singularity.

In his book “The Third Wave”, Toffler describes three types of societies, based on the concept of “waves”—each wave pushes the older societies and cultures aside.

• The First Wave is the society after agrarian revolution which replaced the first hunter-collector cultures.
• The Second Wave is the society during the Industrial Revolution ( late 1600s through the mid-1900s). The main components of the Second Wave society are nuclear family, factory-type education system and the corporation.
• The Third Wave is the post-industrial society.  Toffler and his wife coined several words to describe this wave such as: Super-industrial Age, Information Age, Space Age, Electronic Era, Global Village,  Technetronic Age,  and the Scientific-Technological Revolution.  He anticipated that this last wave will bring demassification, diversity, knowledge-based production, and the acceleration of change (one of Toffler’s key maxims is “change is non-linear and can go backwards, forwards and sideways”).

Toffler argues that society is undergoing an enormous structural change, a revolution from an industrial society to a “super-industrial society”. This change will overwhelm people, the accelerated rate of technological and social change leaving them disconnected and suffering from “shattering stress and disorientation”—future shocked. Toffler stated that the majority of social problems were symptoms of the future shock. In his discussion of the components of such shock, he also coined the term information overload.

I have experienced this acceleration of change in my lifetime.  Let’s take a brief look:  Vinyl records were replaced by the CD, the CD was replaced by the DVD, and the DVD is being replaced, even as we speak, by Sony’s Blue Ray technology.  Do you remember the ferocious fight between Sony’s Betamax and JVC’s VHS format?  Now both technologies are non-existent.  Technological obsolescence blew them out of the water.

The latest change is about the struggling industry of broadcast television.  Eight decades after pioneering the concept of broadcasting, NBC is on the verge of a startling move that illustrates broadcast television’s decline.

Cable TV operator Comcast Corp. is expected to buy a controlling stake in NBC Universal, perhaps as early as this week, bringing the network of Johnny Carson, Jerry Seinfeld, Bob Hope, Milton Berle and Tom Brokaw under the corporate control of a TV cable company.

Starting last Sunday, Vivendi SA had an option to sell its 20 percent stake in NBC Universal.  Majority owner General Electric Co. is expected to buy it and then sell a 51 percent stake of the entire NBC Universal unit to Comcast, which serves about a quarter of the nation’s subscription TV households.

By owning more content, Comcast further hedges its bets as mainly a distributor of shows in case viewers ditch their cable TV subscriptions and migrate to the Internet, mobile devices or a platform that has yet to emerge. The company could charge for the shows or sell ads wherever the viewers are.

As the calendar pages turn, I wouldn’t be surprised if Cable TV is replaced by Internet TV, which has a long tradition of being free.  Google could be the pusher of this technological change and Chrome OS–paired up with Android  OS—could be the vehicles to do it.    Not to far away, I foresee millions of people of my generation, viewing “I Love Lucy” with their 5G iPhone.  The globe is spinning so fast, I have a hard time breathing.  Good Day.

Para nadie es un secreto que la forma como vemos e interpretamos el mundo viene determinado por la cultura en que nacemos y los “valores” que nos inculcan desde pequeños. Aunque a decir verdad, cada día compruebo que lo que hacen es adoctrinarnos. Y en esa tarea participan por igual y diligentemente la familia, la escuela, la iglesia, la comunidad y como no, los grandes medios.

Hasta cierta edad, (aunque algunos mueren sin darse cuenta) uno cree que es libre y  que sus convicciones y creencias son legítimas. De hecho, no son pocos los mitos que nos venden como verdades irrefutables. Después se entera uno, que todo era un tremendo cuento. Ahí es cuando comienza la verdadera formación.

En mi caso, debo reconocer, que hasta que me gradué de una universidad de cuyo nombre no quiero acordarme, mi visión del mundo era bastante ingenua y sobre todo romántica.

De toda esa cantidad de copias que me toco leer para acceder al titulo de Psicologo, no recuerdo autores que realmente me hayan impactado. Salvo Skinner con su Walden II no puedo decir que alguna de las estrellas de la psicología haya influenciado en mi pensamiento.

Ya después de graduado fue que vine a descubrir a un Psicologo y pedagogo colombiano que hoy considero pieza fundamental en mi formación, es de esos “especímenes” que rara vez brotan por estas tierras, sobre todo en el gremio de la psicología. Me refiero a Miguel de Zubiria Samper.

Alguna vez había escuchado de él porque se trataba de uno de los fundadores de un instituto dizque para niños “superdotados”, esos que, debido a su genialidad, supuestamente debían recibir una formación especial, diferente a la masa adoctrinada del sistema educativo formal.

Confieso que esa idea me parecía bastante odiosa, la interpretaba como una cuestión medio elitista que en vez de admiración causaba escozor. Por eso en ese entonces, De Zubiria no me decía nada.

Pero no fue sino hasta que hice un diplomado en la Fundación Internacional de Pedagogía Conceptual Alberto Merani, cuando conocí al De Zubiria que hoy tiene su cuota en mi autodidacta formación.

Hasta entonces había sido muy tímido mi acercamiento a la pedagogía, de hecho, conocía muy poco sobre modelos pedagógicos. Sin embargo, tan pronto empecé a indagar sobre Pedagogía Conceptual, quede impregnado y hoy es determinante en mis actos educativos, aprendí a leer de una forma mas sistemática, a sacarle mayor provecho a la lectura.

Reconozco su influencia también en mi afán por formar Seres Humanos competentes afectivamente y talentosos. Comparto igualmente su cruzada por invitar a los padres a convertirse en unos verdaderos FORMADORES de sus hijos. Aunque aquí tengo un problema por resolver, ya que he visto que mientras las personas sigan siendo esclavos de un sistema que les obliga a trabajar para sobrevivir en detrimento de la unidad familiar, poco será lo que se pueda hacer. Pero bueno, eso es harina de otro costal.

Cuando terminé el diplomado en el Merani (que por cierto no aprobé, porque según ellos no contaba con el perfil de un pedagogo conceptual, aunque debo “agradecerles” que por lo menos me dieran certificado de asistencia, así fuera por ventanilla) procedí a comprarme la obra (15 libros) del que denomino el segundo De Zubiria. Aquel que se diò cuenta de que el talento y el genio no es una cuestión genética, sino, de identificación, desarrollo y cultivo que toma años en perfeccionar. Aquel que se volcó sobre la dimensión afectiva del ser humano y que hoy le apuesta al posicionamiento de una pedagogía y psicología afectiva tan necesaria por estas tierras.

Para entender este cambio recomiendo leer “El Mito de la Inteligencia” una especie como de acto de contrición en el que expía sus culpas intelectuales.

A través de De Zubiria conocí a ALVIN TOFFLER. Así, con mayúsculas por que su obra es monumental. Es una lastima que en la academia no le muestren a uno este tipo de autores, a veces pienso que los psicólogos vivimos de espalda a la realidad, mas afanados  por nuestra propia subsistencia y por servir dócilmente a los que buscan personal barato para satisfacer sus “metas empresariales”

No pretendo echar vainasos, pero no hay labor mas alienante que la de los reclutadores de personal, esos que revisan hojas de vida a granel y que luego de desechar terminan picando en sofisticadas maquinas donde van a parar las ilusiones de cientos de desempleados.

Pero bueno, estábamos hablando de mis guías intelectuales.

Decía que conocí a Toffler por intermedio De Zubiria. Y que grato me ha resultado este descubrimiento, tan es así, que me di a la tarea de devorar toda su obra, y tanta ha sido su influencia que hoy hablo dizque de “COMPETENCIAS DE TERCERA OLA” en una clara alusión al paradigma pregonado  por este autor.

Digamos que para tener una comprensión más sistémica de la sociedad es necesario estudiar su obra. Desde “El Shock del Futuro” hasta “La Revolución de la Riqueza” pasando por “La  Tercera Ola”, “El Cambio del Poder”, “La Política en la Tercera Ola” y “Las Guerras del Futuro”.

Llama la atención que toda la obra de Toffler tiene una consistente línea teórica. Es como un gran libro dividido en varios tomos y publicado a lo largo de 40 años de producción intelectual.

La tesis es muy sencilla. La humanidad ha pasado por tres grandes periodos de evolución y desarrollo. Una Ola Agrícola, una segunda industrial, y la que estamos viviendo, que él denomina como la Tercera Ola o del Conocimiento o de la Información en la que internet es determinante. No pretendo hacer una profunda reseña de su obra, lo que me interesa es dejar constancia de su influencia sobre mi pensamiento.

Casi que en la misma línea, pero más profundo y propositivo se encuentra Jacque Fresco. Un autentico REVOLUCIONARIO del conocimiento. Un verdadero visionario, el cual es muy probable la historia lo juzgue tan grande como lo fueron los arquitectos de esta sociedad industrial agonizante.

A decir verdad, conocí primero a Toffler que a Fresco, pero ambos están íntimamente relacionados. Aunque no veo en la obra del primero una clara alusión al advenimiento de una economía basada en recursos, la cual es la propuesta del segundo. De acuerdo a mi análisis, Toffler plantea una tercera fase de la civilización pero incluso en el marco mismo del capitalismo. En cambio Fresco, es muy claro en afirmar que la solución a los patologías sociales que padece la sociedad de hoy (pobreza, guerras, desempleos, hambre, miseria y largo etc) no son políticos ni ideológicos, sino técnicos.

Gracias a Toffler y luego a Fresco, pude superar la dicotomía entre izquierda y derecha, la verdadera lucha política será entre quienes insisten en mantener el sistema tal y como esta, con todas sus aberraciones y patologías; y quienes nos empeñamos en la construcción de una nueva civilización guiada por un nuevo paradigma mas acorde a nuestras realidades actuales y futuras.

Quien no tenga una apertura de pensamiento y no esté preparado para despertar, abrir los ojos y tomar conciencia de lo aberrante del sistema en el que vivimos, no puede acercarse a Jacque Fresco. No lo entendería, sus sólidos y contundentes argumentos en contra del sistema monetario y de instituciones como la religión y la política podrían revolver los estómagos de más de uno.

Por el contrario, si usted es conciente que vivimos en un sistema que nos adoctrina y manipula soterradamente desde nuestra cuna hasta nuestra tumba, pues Jacque Fresco es el personaje adecuado para conocer como funciona la maquinaria de este sistema y lo más importante, como se debe actuar para ayudar a despertar conciencias.

La influencia de Fresco y su obra sobre mi formación intelectual es absolutamente determinante. Al punto de considerar muy seriamente la posibilidad de difundir sus propuestas e incluirlas en mi proyecto de vida.

Aunque hay un aspecto en el que no estoy de acuerdo con Fresco. Según su análisis, para que una economía basada en recursos se convierta en una alternativa viable a la economía monetaria, esta última debe colapsar. Pienso que se hace necesario un modelo económico de transición y es la economía altruista, específicamente una economía de donaciones una buena opción.

En fin, todavía estoy aterrizando, pero el puerto es demasiado atractivo.

Otro personaje cuya obra –primera empírica y después teórica- me ha impactado considerablemente es Muhammad Yunus, Premio Nobel de Paz y fundador del Banco Grammen. A mi juicio el más importante Emprendedor Social del mundo. Sus dos libros, “El Banquero de los pobres” y “Un Mundo sin Pobreza” son una fuente de inspiración para dedicar la vida a la creación de empresas sociales que tenga como propósito el cumplimiento de objetivos sociales que vayan más allá de la maximización de beneficios y el mero afán de lucro.

De hecho pienso que las empresas sociales, de la mano de la economía altruista y la economía de las donaciones pueden convertirse en puntas de lanza hacia la construcción de una civilización que opere bajo una economía basada en recursos.

Jacque Fresco, Mohammad Yunus, Alvin Toffler y Miguel de Zubiria, son mis cuatro grandes guías intelectuales. Sin embargo, muy cerca suyo y con sobrados meritos, también bebo de la fuente de Daniel Goleman y Andrès Perez Ortega, un emprendedor aguerrido digno de admirar quien esta posicionando en España y de paso en América Latina una filosofía propia de Tercera Ola, El Personal Branding o Marca Personal. Concepto que me ha resultado bastante enriquecedor y apropiado para estos tiempos en los que diferenciarse y dar lo mejor de si al servicio de los demás se convierte en una necesidad de supervivencia.

Por ultimo, hay unos personajes cuyo trabajo gira entorno a la sociología de la red que yo denomino como “Guerreros del Conocimiento”. Jóvenes de 30 y 40 años que están revolucionando la forma como se produce conocimiento y sobre todo, como se comparte ese conocimiento. Autores que han dado su obra al Dominio Publico y buscan algo mucho más trascendente que el metálico. Sin duda alguna, su obra será de gran aporte para mí y para quienes a través mío llegue a ellos. (Entre estos guerreros destaco a David de Ugarte, de quien estoy aprehendiendo todo lo relacionado con las redes distribuidas y la sociología de la redes)

Mi generación tiene dos opciones. O cumple su tarea como replicador del sistema y lleva una vida dócil al servicio de instituciones caducas como la religión, la política y el sistema financiero; o por el contrario se empeña en despertar primero, en salir de esta MATRIZ tan potente, y ayuda a despertar a los demás en una lirica batalla intelectual por la construcción de una nueva civilización que deje un mundo mas vivible para nuestras próximas generaciones.

Finalizo (por ahora) diciendo que tal y como lo señala Fresco “el conocimiento es emergente” esta en constante evolución, por lo tanto, es muy probable que a esta lista de influencias intelectuales se sumen mas guerreros que contribuirán con mi formación y tendrá su cuota en todo lo que pueda llegar a “producir” intelectualmente en los 60 años de vida que me quedan (si es que la parca no me recoge antes de tiempo)

Do you feel like this student?

I read your book. I don’t want to be sitting in a classroom where I’m treated like a machine and trained for the Industrial Age. I want to quit school. I don’t intend to stop learning, I want to read and visit all parts of the world but I don’t want to sit in the classroom anymore.

What you know :

• You can’t keep doing more of “schooling” trying to get better at it for the future.
• The world you will be in requires you to have an ability to understand intangible knowledge. Knowledge changes so fast that you need to know the WHY and the HOW behind the what.
• Children are different. Children must be treated differently.
• Our institutions are hopelessly obsolete.  We will see one by one institutions collapse – An Institutional Hurricane Katrina.

What you need to know :

• You learn more outside of school than you do in school.
• Why shouldn’t we bring more of those outside people who know more (know anyone like this?) into our schools?
• Why not take kids out and show them how the world works?
• Mistake : they think we’re moving into a society which is more and more uniform. But we are moving from a mass-society to a diversified market. So why should everyone have the same type of education?
• Why can’t one student start at 5, another at 7……some learn at night, some in the morning, etc.etc.

Questions you need to ask:

• Why should you depend only on your schoolteachers to be the only ones providing useful knowledge?
• Why can’t you find other adults from the outside world who is capable of leading you and helping you make sense of this intangible knowledge you need to be aware of?

Future Shock

Hop into the way back machine –we’re off to 1970. The ink on my college diploma is barely dry, and sociologist Alvin Toffler has written Future Shock, which he defines as “too much change in too short a period of time”. While the times, they were a-changin’ during that period, the evolution of society continued over the next 35 years at a continuously accelerating rate, leaving large groups of people behind in its wake. Technology, culture, education, religion, values and even idiomatic language are barely recognizable. He further predicted the surge of advanced technologies to include cloning and facilitated global communications.

Toffler followed this by a second book The Third Wave, which describes the progress of society from the first wave (agricultural), through the second (the industrial revolution), to the third wave (post-industrial) society that we find ourselves to currently occupy. Such things as the nuclear family have given way to the nuclear age.

Wikipedia points out that the concept of the nation state itself is under attack, with schisms among ideologies abounding. Not only has our own country fractured, but other countries such as China (urban v. rural), the Islamic nations (secular v. fundamentalist), Western Europe (conservatives v. liberals), and Israel (orthodox v. secular). Add these to the numerous separatist movements in Chechnya, Czechoslovakia, USSR and the rise of the microstates such as East Timor. Hell, even Governor Rick Perry has pointed out that the state constitution of Texas permits secession. Other such factors as multinational corporate interests, jihadist movements and drug cartels have threatened and contracted national economies, and some fear that the “One World” movement will threaten our very national existence. This has created some political backlash ranging from Rush Limbaugh to Randy Weaver.

Toffler never predicted that the One World Union would emerge. He did, however, accurately predict that manufacturing would decline, and the production and processing of information would rise. Most interesting, however, was Toffler’s prediction that the concept of government itself would change, become much more of an open communication between the government and the governed.

Were he to write The Fourth Wave (and he hasn’t – his third book, Powershift, did expand on the information age, and the growing gender gaps), I wonder what he would say. He did write a book entitled War and Anti-War in 1993, which discussed nuclear proliferation as “The Genie Out of the Bottle” and the growing fault lines in the “Zone of Peace”. Many have questioned if a Fourth Wave is gathering offshore as we speak. Toffler himself has remained silent.

Relax, it’s not one of those lame “today I freeloaded...” mention-in-exchange-for-a-freebie blog entries. I overreached myself attempting to blog from the BlackBerry. Hence the lo-fi image above – the Bold in its current incarnations seems to afford its indoor camera subjects with a cateract soft-focus tint. Mission aborted. As one of those rare good magazine weeks, this is the pile of print I’ve opted to absorb this weekend. Too much information. Except Wallpaper* – still too smarmy to warrant anything beyond a browse. I only bought it for the cover.

Back in 1996, when my internet use was confined to looking for nude female celebrity images that loaded…very…slowly, Sandbox Distribution, old TV theme tunes that wouldn’t play on RealAudio Player and haplessly trying to navigate Nike-based newsgroups, my computer habit was minimal. It wasn’t until an impassioned fanboy speech on Ras Kass’s Patchwerk career and Coolio affiliations that winter over bong hits caused my friend James to explain his fear that I could suffer some form of meltdown from “information overload” – he even cited some vague example of a university professor who’d been looking into the effects of, for want of a better term, memorising too much crap.

These were just THC-induced witterings, but I’ll be damned if it didn’t set my mind racing through the cerebral archives of drivel, pondering as to whether an overload of unnecessary pop culture trivia had taken up precious memory at the expense of logic. That was amassed from TV, magazines, newspapers, records and radio. In the year 2009, James’s presumably ill-informed theory feels marginally more credible. What would have been pondered then forgotten has now been Googled, skim-read and mentally stashed. It’s unhealthy. I’m not talking the ephemera that crams up store shelves or your email inbox that physically prevents you from finding what you want – I’m talking about what you actually absorb.

Alvin Toffler coined the term ‘information overload’ in 1970 for ‘Future Shock’ and Jacob Jacoby, Carol Kohn Berning and Donald Speller studied the relationship between brands assailing the consumer to the point of confusion in the mid ’70s. A fear of losing important knowledge due to the increasing number of published tomes incited Denis Diderot to commence editing work on the Encyclopédie in the 1700s, then the most comprehensive of the encylopedias, inspiring the makers of the Encyclopedia Brittanica later that century. It’s not a new concern.

Exactly how much information is your common-garden hipster, wannabe taking in every day? Those blogs just tick on by. 2006 seems quaint by comparison, now, in a state of flux, blogs can’t just focus on apparel, sports footwear and the occasional toys…now it’s furniture, film, art and music to make sure every concievable corner of the current meandering ‘now’ is covered. When “over it” is the new all-night campout for a sweatshirt, and worlds have converged to the point that even the most middle-of-the-road artist is clad in Japanese brands, niche went mainstream and everything everywhere seems ripe for the hype.

Just browsing the big blogs is a meandering assault-on-the-senses. Are kids storing everything and taking notes psychologically? And as a typical whiteboy obsessive when it comes to rap, even I had to jump the e-ship when the boom in rare rap blogs led to the deification of the likes of the medicore Justin Warfield, Top Quality and Miilkbone from certain quarters. Now hip-hop fans can partially digest three brand new mixtapes a day electronically next to the latest radio rip MP3, followed by the unmastered, then mastered in a three tier tactical leak over 24 hours.

Whereas I obsessed over “street culture” (apologies for the use of that nasty umbrella term), in the way that someone in a smalltown, unspoilt by the subject matter surrounding you does at my own voracious pace, poring over the occasional tape, ‘The Clothes Show’ segment, or magazine, now the pressure to stay on top of mediocre developments concealing the occasional nugget of significance for kids obsessed with the sprawling hype culture is information overload in full effect. Maybe the new generation have brains more attuned to the info onslaught.

I’ve given up trying to stay ahead. After hitting 30, it became apparent that I’d started jettisoning information to make room for new chunks of pointless data and niche reference points.  For the most part I need my information fix on paper rather than pixels these days for anything to stick or to muster my full concentration during commuter headphone solitude. Maybe I’m all out of trivia space – reading through Monocle each month, as I inexplicably feel duty bound, I can feel each word fail to stick in the memory banks and vanish into the ether. For all the solemn tone, it’s fluff. My brain just can’t be bothered with Libyan trade sanctions so it vaporises the letters immediately, but lets me blankly read nonetheless. Then again, that could just be my brain filtering what it know I’ll never need to recall.

Maybe one day, when you’re straining to recall the name of that GORE-TEX rival, that defunct record label, or that deceased skater who could’ve been a contender, like me, you’ll realise that you might have outrun your brain’s crawling evolution in the dumbest way possible. I just don’t think it was designed with these information-heavy times in mind. It might be ready in a couple of centuries. Until someone finds a way to psychologically zip archive irrelevance, there’s a sense I’ve forgotten more than I’ve ever learnt.

One day, a single attempt to cram a book’s release date into that psychological library of nothingness could lead to a Cassavetes ‘The Fury’ style human-firework. You’ve been warned.

La nueva Economía de la Información, impulsada por las comunicaciones y la tecnología informática, ha producido en las últimas décadas una transformación económica mayor que la economía industrial produjo en los últimos siglos. Esta claro que la economía de la información se ha construido sobre los éxitos de la economía industrial y que después ha hecho avanzar la economía a grandes saltos.

En términos de recursos, la economía industrial estuvo condicionada por la “economía de la escasez”. Todo lo que impulsaba esa economía era escaso y solo podían disponer de ello unas cuantas naciones. Éstas eran “las que tienen”. Se desataron guerras mundiales para acceder a las materias primas, a la tierra y al trabajo barato. Mas tarde, una forma más sutil de guerra económica, la colonización, demostró ser efectiva para los países europeos que buscaban estos recursos industriales.

En la economía de la información, las materias primas se han convertido en algo mucho más intangible y difícil de aprehender. La información ya no es un recurso escaso, gracias a internet. La explosión de la economía de la información ha creado realmente “la economía de la abundancia”. El reto ahora consiste en mantenerse a su ritmo. Todo el mundo puede tratar de acceder a toda la información mundial y convertirla en conocimiento y capacitación.

Pero hemos de tener cuidado en no sobrestimar el valor de la información y el conocimiento en esta economía que está basada en la información. El hecho es que la información NO TIENE VALOR, a menos que esté DISPONIBLE INMEDIATAMENTE antes de que la necesitemos.

Por ejemplo: la información sobre los clientes que contienen las grandes bases de datos no tiene ningún valor hasta que no se las pone a dar fruto, inmediatamente antes de necesitarlas en cada uno de los puntos de contacto con el cliente. Lo mismo ocurre con el conocimiento.

Esta claro que, en esta ECONOMIA DEL CONOCIMIENTO, EL CONOCIMIENTO NO TIENE VALOR por si mismo.

Consideremos el salario del profesor universitario promedio y veremos que esta economía no concede un gran valor al conocimiento puro. Prueba de ello son sus paupérrimos ingresos.

Sin embargo, esta economía concede un enorme valor al conocimiento desde el momento en que se convierte en capacidad y se aplica en el mundo real. La nueva economía es una economía dirigida por las capacidades, no por el conocimiento, ¡y la única escasez en ella es la de capacidades!!

El acceso a la información se ha convertido en una elección personal más que en el resultado de pertenecer a una determinada clase privilegiada. El acceso a las redes de información ya no está limitado a los órganos del gobierno y a las grandes corporaciones, como ocurría durante los años setenta. Ahora los individuos que eligen poder tienen ese mismo tipo de acceso. Las ideas han demostrado ser el carburante real de la nueva economía.

Ya han pasado los días de “los que tienen” y de “los que no tienen”. Hoy solo existen “los que tienen” y “los que no quieren”.

Por ello es por lo que la llamamos “la economía de la actitud”. Nosotros somos los que tendremos que elegir. ¡Ya no es cosa de los que están en el poder central!!!

Entonces…

¿Elegimos, o dejamos que otros sigan eligiendo por nosotros?

The author himself is a member of the ‘Wise Humans’ Community and Phenomena he is speaking of.

Is an act of Preface then a Hypocrisy?

The idea of expressing a regard for a time previous to this present time a floundering poppycock act of lunatic romance, offered in variegated and delicately plucked themed tendrils of Oo-Laa-laa? More Choleric drivel to Avoid for the “Positivist” on the way to Yoga Class, and more Over-Intellected, un-founded vehemence to the “Realist” – too busy for such unsolicited and unprofitable truth on his way to pick up the latest Copy of The Financial Times? Too Piquant for the “Pacifist” in his ardor to master the gentlest way to tickle the voluptuously distended orifice of his lover?

And so it goes on the arbitrary Categorization of The Wise Human Community, in a listless and conscripted set of crutches, like the gassed and gunned down Dead from First World War, walking through the vapors of time, invading the Cool and Serene preoccupation of sipping a Free Sample of Whole Foods Organic Tea, and on the way back from Fresh Grocers staring with a startled look of self-excitement at the discounted and marshaled Goods and Services of the Day of Age, the Peace of Mind so easily jilted looked for and found in Social Network sites blazing with piques and prods of the profit margin to reduce the sole remaining and latest adventure in Human Wisdom to Finally Show Face.

Everyone is (unequally) on the Side of the Guilty, and Everyone is (unequally) on the Side of the Blessed. Yet, Distinctions are not Wise to make, when the disappointment, agonies, and calumnious riot of Cause and Effect will not leave undisturbed the pretenses of “Scientific Potential”, – Naïve Belief in a ‘Know How Saving the Day’, clearly, Know-How and Wisdom are perhaps wrangling in the Zone together, sprawled naked, rather uptight and cylindrical, in a battle that Exists in Only One Real and Palpable Sphere of Influence: In My Own Consciousness and Your’s.

For I, The Wise Human, and You, my Neighbor have Inherited it All, – the tanks, the guns, the scientists, the buffoonery, the saints, the greats, the sages, and the whole lot of our litany, - and the Hands that are typing this message, prop up and down, fingers moving and ricocheting off the plastic key slits, impressing thought beyond the horizon of action and reaction, Yes, beyond your brain, into your Heart : Where Citations, Errors, and Right-Doings and Wrong-Doings, in the word of the Great Persian Poet Rumi, also a Wise Human like you and me, do not prevail before what is manifesting in the Prime and Cardinal Order of things as a Universal, Collective, Irrevocable One and Single Necessity: To Love.

Yet the ones esteemed so long, so long for their privileges and disappointments, for their venerable pouch like faces and their expressive facial overhangs, ponderous valleys and cliffs, joints, and constitutions, the Great and Self-Elected Elders of your era and mine : Our Wise Human Eras, have not Quite Safeguarded this Institution you and I regard by that Term of the Heart, rather than of the Brain : The Term Love. Do you, the Wise Human, Know what this Means? This Term? Love?

This is what A.S. Eddington, a Homo Sapien, wrote on Page Three Hundred and Eighteen of the Book “The Nature of the Physical World” :

“It will perhaps be said that the conclusion to be drawn from these arguments from modern science is that religion first became possible for a reasonable Scientific man about the year 1927. If we must consider that tiresome person, the consistently reasonable man, we may point out that not merely religion, but most of the ordinary aspects of life first became possible for him in that year. Certain common activities ( e.g. falling in love ) are I fancy, still forbidden him. If our expectation should prove well founded, that 1927 has seen the final overthrow of strict causality by Heisenberg, Bohr, Born and others, the year will certainly rank as one of the greatest epochs in the development of scientific philosophy.”

Mister Eddington, the premiere Homo Sapien, the Wisest of his Race in the Year Nineteen Twenty Seven, clearly did not Outlive his message. For “the final overthrow of strict Causality” has Not Been Solved as a “Problem”, nor has any of the many profound Problems of Cause and Effect since his eras, – but rather the most superficial constructions and re-constructions of Causal forces have provided on Two Thousand and Nine, for the Wise Human his great lot : His Scientific Revolution, his Agricultural Revolution, and his self-proclaimed “Revolution” in Cybernetics : The Desire to render Inorganic and Unfallow – to Cause the forces of Negation and Pestilence to stir and breed and corrupt the last bastion of the Organic : The State of Human Mind, has reversed the progress of the War to End All Wars. By Claiming Conquest, Man has Bred it. By Show of Force, Man has Come Under Force. By Hypocrisy, Man has inherited A Startling Lie. The Food that does not provide Nutrition, the Romance that does not last beyond the first night’s affectionate embrace, the Lust in the body that can not be quelled even if Three Fourths of Europe was to be turned into a Temple for it, and the Seventh Grade English media empire, that has conscripted for its own services all Seventh Graders in the Universe: including the Two Billion or so living in the ‘First World Nations’, in any one of which, Mister A.S. Eddington’s corpse must be by now have fully rotted and reclaimed unto ‘The Nature of the Physical World’ he was so prolifically interpreting back in Nineteen Hundred and Twenty Seven.

The Problem is Clear to See. The wealthiest and most aware and Scientific of Wise Humans are tormenting and vanquishing millions of acres of Life Enriching Eucalyptus Forests, by mowing them down to produce paper fiber. The Stock Markets – driven by the Wild, Reckless, Wanton and “Realistic” covet of Money Makers and King Makers are ransacking the Wealth of Nations, through their “Invisible Hand”. The Greatest Nation in the World, the United States of America is being governed by a Kleptocracy, – Wise Humans and Seventh Graders that the Media venerates and places on a tall podium to exude their aura. Animals are being colonized, bred, and slaughtered in masses to satiate the Carnivorous Zeal of the Homo Sapien. Every thought, directed with the Individual’s appetite for Survival is being less luxuriously directed to acknowledge the Greatest and Most Common and Prevalent Truth : Selfishness. To emphasize one’s own lowest possible concept of Self : The Self that exists to Eat and go unstarved, to Reproduce to satiate its base purpose, to excrete out of Necessity. Witnessing the punctility and unreasonableness of the biological compulsions, the Wise Human rationalizes. “It is Not My Problem, but the World’s”. But Who Is the World? Who Is Paying? Who Is Profiting? Everyone, and No One. Every Body, and No Body. Every Misery, and No Misery, Life and Death lock lips in the Cradle and in the Grave, as Theoretical Evil becomes Practical Necessity, and Life becomes a Retreat – A March – Into Death. With Slogans of “Positivism”, “Realism”, “Pacifism”, and “Negativism” no one is becoming happier, felicity nor survival is growing in harvest, no problem is in appearance or in reality Going Away, – A War to End all Wars, is now the Slogan of every Institution, Corporation, Individual, Nation State, and Jurisdiction in the World. Confusing seems to be the Costume and even the Unwashed Underwear of the Emperor that no longer has any clothes.

The disappointments and agonies of hundreds of years continue to compound the errors and privileges that rise and resurface to further compound the Ordeal of the Homo Sapiens : ‘The Wise Human’. The problem is clear to see even on the premise of stating a declaration as extended and all encompassing as the horizontally crucified effigy portrayed in that first Sentence. The author himself is a member of the ‘Wise Humans’ Community and Phenomena he is speaking of. And he is Speaking to the Heart when he is Asking you the Wise Human to Defer For A Change, and Respond rather than React, to the Question Proposed before You: Do you, the Wise Human, Know what this Means? This Term? Love?

Another Wise Human – Doctor Albert Schweitzer speaks to Us as an Expositor of the Phenomena of Love. He too speaks from his Grave :

“ Thought cannot avoid the ethical or reverence and love for all life. It will abandon the old confined systems of ethics and be forced to recognize the ethics that knows no bounds. But on the other hand, those who believe in love for all creation must realize clearly the difficulties involved in the problem of a boundless ethic and must be resolved not to veil from [humankind] the conflicts which this ethic will involve [us], but allow [us] really to experience them. To think out in every implication the ethic of love for all creation — this is the difficult task which confronts our age.”

You the Homo Sapien must be Asking, “What Could That Possibly Mean?”.  ‘The Ethics that knows no bounds’ is certainly beyond the Confines of the Codeces that are managed the world, the “Systems” if you will, and the Societies that continue to bequeath upon them the doubtful blessings that always make the most noise and rely on the aid of the mischievous, illiterate, and the unethical to make itself known.

The Iranian mob points fingers to the false prophets, the false prophets point fingers to America, America points finger to its ministers, its committees, its values, and its ministers, its committees, its values, point fingers to everyone else in the World, Nation States that crumble under the efforts expended and invested in the Act of Accusation, as the finger licking denizens of Mac Donalds and Panera Breads, and Deli De Luca, and Seven Eleven, are Youtubing their Way into thought Systems, alternating between Advertisements of Free Pornography on the Internet, Dating Sites, and Dot Coms, blaming everyone from Barney the Purple Dinosaur, Ex-Wives, Girlfriends, the Vatican, the Police, Loud Neighbors, Churches, Synagogues and Imaginary Rogues.

The Homo Sapien, reared from Cradle to Grave by the Experiments of Dead Societies and Dead Men of Dead Letters, creak and crank – its Youth defeated by its Dead Ancestors, its Youngest indebted by its Oldest, the most Respectable Institutions desecrating the most Respectable Virtues, – in the Tall Tale Talks of Infrastructure Investment, the Mortgage System, the Debt and the Despair, everyone feels entitled to Complain, and too Few feel the Privilege to Amend, to Make Better, to Act to Restore, to Take Responsibility.

Meanwhile, the multiplying numbers of the Irresponsible and Uneducated feel Entitled to sag their dry minds and spirits on the Crutches of Fact Invention and Castigation. The Christians are in an uproar, believing their troubles are caused by the heathens, the browns, the blacks, and the asiatics. The Apologists of every Religion are rising anew with “Inspiration” to leech anecdotes from magazines and New York Times to Copy and Paste their way into “Great Reformation”, the Hot Steam of the Ego could Seer the Stone Faces of Statutes, and stop a Racing Horse dead in its Tracks, as if it has been gored by a Locomotive. The Muslims either have all Given Up, or All Died “From the War On Terror”. The “War on Error” is being fought at all fronts, at all times, by those that feel that they are entitled to be counted as “amongst the Right”. The “Blame Game” has become an International Sport, in Spare Time and in Quality Time, and all Available Portions, Packets, Bouqets, and Vellums of Time, it is an Unceasing Marvel the likes of which the world has yet to match. Secular Men are blaming the Vatican – as “Hidden Demons” conscript every avenue of Self-Advertisement on National Television and Hire every Private Eye to pay their ways out of Sins. The “Hunters of Facts” and Finger Pointers, Travel in all Directions and Latitudes, screeching “It’s the Freemasons! It’s the Freemasons!”.

So Where and in Whom does the Solution Lie? In Scientific Revelation? In Books and Start Ups? In “Money Making Schemes”, and “Executing an Act of Justice”? To Avenge a Dead Religion, or in Advocate a New Prophet? What about You? You the Wise Human? Do You Know What the Term Love means? Do you believe rather that it is an Opinion,  A trifling passing Season, an aromatic Whiff, a Way of Life, Spare Change, a Theology, an Alternative Way of Living, or a Secret Society? That it’s a Thing to be Had, and a Congregation to Visit, or an “Order” to Join?

You the Wise Human, the Homo Sapien, you and me, live today in a World of Choice. In a World where Beauty stares at us Compassionately from every Corner and Every Crenellation, Unhidden, Transparent, in Plain Sight and Profound View. No amount of manufacture, no quantity of rhetoric and noise, no gaggle of Venture Capitalists and Angel Investors, no number of Sponsors and Advertisers can drown out or Ransack – What Remains within your Access: You the Homo Sapien. The Lakes and Ponds of the World defy the Pollution you have bred into the air with your lament, the sewerage that your way of life produces has filled every water body on Earth, yet Mountains, Forests, Lakes, Herbs, Seeds, the Sun, the Seasons, all alternate around you, looking at you in Silence, observing you, holding you, healing you, and caressing you. You who claim that the world is all bad, have you ever experienced a Rose that did not Smell Blessed? You who claim that Reality or “Realism” is discovered in Economics and Social Networks, have you ever held the hand of a Child? You who claim money printed and backed by nothing “Talks”, have you ever had a Conversation that fulfilled a craving of feeling with a perfect Stranger? You who compare your lessers, and contrast your betters – Do you Realize to Stare into the Mirror and See your Own Face? Who Do You Think You Are? Are not the Wise Human? The One who forgot everything just to remember that Life is a Gift, and Love alone Conquers?

Resulta desalentador que un profesional en Colombia gane apenas entre dos y tres salarios mínimos ($1.000.000 a $1.500.00)[1] algo así como 700 Dólares. Ni siquiera aquellos que realizan un postgrado ven aumentados sus ingresos considerablemente. (Si no me cree, vea las estadísticas del observatorio laboral para la educación)[2].  Lo peor es que seguimos pensando que existen carreras mas “rentables” que otras y que quienes estudian ciertas carreras como Administración de Empresas, Medicina y Sistemas tienen más oportunidad de encontrar un empleo que quienes optan por otras como Antropología, Arquitectura y Artes Plásticas.[3] No nos hemos dado cuenta que hoy la diferencia ya no radica en la carrera que se estudia, sino, en lo que se hace con el conocimiento adquirido.

De acuerdo con Robert Reich[4], el mercado laboral esta dividido en tres categorías, a saber: Trabajos de producción rutinaria. Servicios a las personas. Y trabajos simbolico-analiticos.

Los trabajos de producción rutinaria son aquellos más repetitivos. Lo realizan las personas con menos formación, con menor acceso al conocimiento. El “ruso”, los servicios generales, los vigilantes, el jardinero, entre otros. De acuerdo con Miguel de Zubiria, “en los trabajos rutinarios el componente de conocimiento es ínfimo. Se requiere como mucho educación primaria. Millones de personas podrían realizarlos. Con la trágica contrapartida que dichos trabajadores quedan condenados a ingresos misérrimos, así como sus países.” [5]

Los servicios a las personas requieren desde un título de nivel secundario y de un cierto entrenamiento, hasta títulos profesionales muy específicos. Entre ellos entra una amplísima gama de ocupaciones: desde recepcionistas, conserjes y porteros, taxistas, peluqueros, cocineros, azafatas.  A medida que el servicio persona a persona se hace más sofisticado se requiere mayor capacitación: entrando al juego los docentes, médicos, abogados, odontólogos, psicólogos, enfermeros, entre otros.[6]

Ahora bien, cabe destacar como a medida que pasa el tiempo se va reduciendo la brecha salarial entre trabajadores profesionales y bachilleres. De acuerdo con el estudio “Los profesionales colombianos en el siglo XXI, ¿más estudian, más ganan?”, hacia el 2002 los trabajadores con educación universitaria ganaban 3,2 veces lo que recibían trabajadores hasta con educación secundaria. Desde entonces, esa relación ha caído a 2,6 veces.”[7]

La tercera categoría, los trabajos simbolico-analiticos, son llevados a cabo por ANALISTAS SIMBOLICOS. De acuerdo con Alvin Toffler, son aquellos “trabajadores hábiles en el manejo de los símbolos”[8]. Mientras los profesionales utilizan rutinariamente el conocimiento acumulado, los analistas simbólicos lo RECREAN, es decir, lo utilizan creativamente.[9] Y ese aporte de creatividad les reporta honorarios considerables.

Actualmente, hay una exagerada sobreoferta de profesionales tradicionales. Y como es apenas lógico, al haber una abundancia de profesionales en el medio, la demanda por estos se reduce y los salarios son paupérrimos, miserables. En cambio, los analistas simbólicos, son escasos, en parte porque no los forma el sistema educativo tradicional y en parte también porque exige un esfuerzo de autoformación que muy pocos están dispuestos a llevar a cabo.[10] Por ende sus ingresos son elevados. Y se constituyen en el sector laboral con mayor proyección.

La educación de un analista simbólico requiere el perfeccionamiento en cuatro habilidades básicas, a saber: abstracción, pensamiento sistémico, experimentación y colaboración.[11]

La capacidad de abstracción -para descubrir patrones y significados- es naturalmente la verdadera esencia del análisis simbólico, en el cual la realidad debe ser simplificada de modo que pueda ser comprendida y manejada de diferentes maneras. El analista simbólico maneja ecuaciones, analogías, modelos y metáforas, a fin de crear las oportunidades para reinterpretar la información.[12]

El pensamiento sistémico. El analista simbólico antes de intentar resolver un problema, analiza porque ha surgido y de que manera se relaciona con otros problemas, para posteriormente plantear una solución integral y profunda. No meros “pañitos de agua tibia”.

Los analistas simbólicos experimentan constantemente. Los hábitos y métodos de experimentación son decisivos en la nueva economía, donde las tecnologías y los mercados están en constante fluctuación. Se pone el acento en conservar ciertos aspectos de la realidad que son constantes, mientras se varían otros para facilitar la comprensión de las causas y efectos; de esta manera se indagan una serie de posibilidades y resultados, y se toma nota de las analogías y diferencias relevantes. Las conjeturas e intuiciones se comparan con las ideas previas.

Pero lo más importante es que el analista simbólico reconoce que el aprendizaje permanente es una responsabilidad propia.[13]

Por último está la capacidad de colaborar. Los analistas simbólicos generalmente trabajan en equipo, compartiendo problemas y soluciones en forma grupal. Los analistas simbólicos también pasa gran parte de su tiempo comunicando ideas a través de disertaciones, informes, proyectos, planes, artículos, y luego tratan de lograr un consenso para seguir adelante con el plan. Los analistas simbólicos aprenden a alentar y aceptar las críticas de sus condiscípulos.[14]

Otras características de los analistas simbólicos son: Tienen socios o colegas en lugar de jefes o supervisores. Su ingreso depende de la calidad, originalidad, destreza y oportunidades de su trabajo. Disfrutan de una próspera situación económica a una edad temprana. Sus carreras no son lineales ni jerárquicas. Trabajan solos o en equipos, los que a su vez pueden estar conectados con grandes organizaciones y redes mundiales. Prefieren un ambiente donde la comunicación sea fluida e informal. Poseen un gran manejo de las tecnologías. Poseen un importante capital social que se preocupan por expandir.

Son los analistas simbólicos, quienes le darán vida a las empresas sociales e instituciones que requiere la sociedad de tercera ola. Dicha tarea será generosamente recompensada, porque estos nuevos trabajadores y emprendedores sociales le apuntaran con firmeza –entre muchos otros- a dos objetivos sociales: la erradicación de la pobreza y la formación de mejores seres humanos.

En cuanto a los profesionales tradicionales, lastimosamente están condenados a la proletarización. A ser victimas de condiciones laborales decadentes, con salarios paupérrimos que escasamente les alcanzará para subsistir. Y si no se suben al tren de los analistas simbólicos, un oscuro, indigno y precario futuro les esperará.

Recuerde que la diferencia no esta en lo que usted estudia, sino, en lo que usted hace con lo que estudia.

Alvin Toffler, Mohammad Yunus, Miguel de Zubiria y Robert Kiyosaki

Hay personas que hacen que las cosas pasen. Son aquellos que tienen como meta existencial, trascender, dejar huella. Seguramente en ese camino tienen sus propios héroes, otros seres humanos que les antecedieron e influyeron en la forma como ven el mundo y sobre todo, en la forma como actúan sobre el mundo.

Quien opta por la trascendencia, lo hace a sabiendas de que tendrá un recorrido más difícil y lleno de obstáculos. Por lo menos hasta que sus sueños se cristalicen, sus ideas son vistas como utopías propias de románticos y quijotes que luchan solos contra el mundo. Por supuesto que me refiero a aquellos que tienen como arsenal el poder de la palabra y la firmeza de sus convicciones; y no a quienes creen que la única vía para construir un mundo mejor sea acudir al uso de las armas, influenciados por ideologías polarizantes y excluyentes.

Claro esta que las utopías de alguna manera son respuesta a las injusticias de cada época. No obstante, esta época que nos ha tocado vivir, -la de los inicios del siglo XXI, la de la transición entre una era industrial a una era postindustrial- requiere una respuesta creativa, innovadora y capaz de proponer alternativas de solución eficaces a los problemas que aun aquejan al mundo. Dos de ellos, la pobreza y la carencia de mejores Seres Humanos.

Pues bien, después de casi tres años de buscar, pensar, repensar, leer, escribir e indagar. Creo que he encontrado el camino y las luces que me guiarán. De modo que esta semana les presento lo que considero son las raíces de lo que vengo proponiendo y de lo que voy a proponer.

Para poder entender la sociedad en que vivimos, sus cambios, sus veloces transformaciones y el impacto que estas tienen sobre las personas y las principales instituciones occidentales; el autor que considero fundamental es Alvin Toffler[1]

Según Toffler, hubo una ‘primera ola’, de una muy larga vigencia histórica, en la que las aplicaciones tecnológicas estaban asociadas al esfuerzo humano, a la fuerza biológica del ser humano, con un predominio de la actividad agrícola. La ‘segunda ola’ alcanzó su apogeo con la revolución industrial, con una duración histórica mucho más corta, en la que el esfuerzo mecánico, el maquinismo, sustituyó al esfuerzo humano, y dio origen a la sociedad de masas. Y, por fin, la ‘tercera ola’, hija de la revolución tecnológica, de la que surge una sociedad regida por los flujos de información y lleva a la concepción de nuevos paradigmas, a una nueva cosmovisión. Los usos tecnológicos favorecen el desarrollo de las extensiones de la mente, por lo que el esfuerzo prevalente, en la nueva etapa, es el que se deriva del conocimiento. El mundo no sólo se transforma en su matriz tecnológica, sino que el cambio conlleva a un cambio psicológico de la sociedad, a una redefinición de las relaciones sociales y, también, de las relaciones de poder.[2]

La tercera ola entonces, demanda la creación de nuevas instituciones, con nuevos paradigmas. Y es precisamente el segundo de mis guías intelectuales quien ha creado una institución típica de tercera ola y con ello ha mostrado una nueva y eficaz manera de luchar contra la pobreza, me refiero a Muhammad Yunus.[3]

Yunus tuvo la clarividencia de dar un nuevo y revolucionario enfoque al tema de la financiación[4], fundador del Banco Grammen y premio Nobel de la Paz, Yunus es el creador de los microcréditos, el innovador programa bancario que proporciona a los pobres –especialmente a las mujeres- pequeños prestamos que les permiten fundar modestas empresas y librar a sus familias de la pobreza. En los últimos treinta años, los microcréditos se han implantado en todos los continentes y han beneficiado a más de cien millones de familias.[5]

Pero Yunus va más allá de los microcréditos y en su libro Un Mundo sin Pobreza lanza la idea de la empresa social, una forma totalmente nueva de emplear el dinamismo y la creatividad de las empresas para abordar problemas sociales, desde la pobreza y la contaminación, hasta la sanidad y la educación. En este libro, Yunus nos explica sus planes para transformar el mundo con miles de empresas sociales, y avanzar hacia un nuevo capitalismo con rostro humano[6]. Claramente, se constituye la empresa social –que nada tiene que ver con la cacareada “responsabilidad social empresarial”, en una institución de tercera ola. He aquí mi segunda raíz intelectual.

Mi tercera raíz intelectual es Miguel De Zubiria Samper.[7] Mas exactamente el que denomino como el De Zubiria de segunda época. Aquel que fue capaz de corregir sus presupuestos básicos y volcar su talento al desarrollo de una teoría de la afectividad humana, “sobre hombros de gigantes” como Howard Gardner, Daniel Goleman, Robert Stemberg y Steve Mithen.

Solamente un hombre que ha trasegado en todas sus dimensiones el concepto de la inteligencia, que le ha dedicado buena parte de su vida a hacer de él, el sentido de su quehacer psíquico y laboral, que ha convertido esta idea en un paradigma de valor ideal de la cultura y que ha intentado que su conceptos rijan un proceso educativo, sólo un hombre así, repito, esta autorizado para decir que la inteligencia es un MITO y que el cociente intelectual es hoy por hoy una peligrosa estratagema de las actuales ciencias psicológicas. Ese hombre es Miguel De Zubiria.[8]

Tantos embarazos en adolescentes, tanta delincuencia juvenil, tanta violencia intrafamiliar, tanta violencia en las escuelas, tanta intolerancia en general, tienen sus bases –entre otras variables- en una falta de desarrollo de competencias afectivas intrapersonales, interpersonales y sociogrupales.

Pues bien, el Maestro De Zubiria, a través de la psicología y la pedagogía afectiva, da un paso adelante en el camino abierto por Gardner con su “Teoría de las inteligencias múltiples” y Goleman[9] con su teoría de la “inteligencia emocional” para hablar del desarrollo de competencias afectivas, donde las emociones son una parte más de una dimensión mas amplia de la mente humana, como lo es su dimensión afectiva, compuesta igualmente por sentimientos, actitudes, principios y valores que también median en las acciones de las personas. De modo pues que, apuntarle al desarrollo de competencias afectivas, es una ambiciosa apuesta en la siempre necesaria formación de mejores Seres Humanos. Tal y como lo requiere una sociedad de tercera ola.

Por ultimo, mi cuarta influencia es Robert Kiyosaki.[10] Él, Además de ser un crítico de la educación industrial, ha visibilizado la necesidad de aprender educación financiera básica. Promoviendo también la importancia de buscar la independencia financiera como una forma de liberarse del yugo de tener que trabajar por dinero y no hacer que el dinero trabaje para uno. Quedando así tiempo para dedicarlo a pensar y diseñar estrategias que contribuyan a la erradicación de la pobreza y la construcción de un mundo mejor. Bajo esta lógica, el trabajo se convierte en una fuente de satisfacción, más que una obligatoria y mal paga actividad para obtener recursos limitados con que subsistir.

De modo pues que Alvin Toffler con su paradigma de la tercera ola. Mohammad Yunus con su promoción de los microcréditos y el emprendimiento social. Miguel De Zubiria con su propuesta del desarrollo de competencias afectivas y Robert Kiyosaki con su misión de elevar el bienestar financiero de la humanidad, se constituyen en la columna vertebral o mas bien, en las raíces de un proyecto que busca convocar a hombres y mujeres que se identifiquen con esta misión y deseen aunar esfuerzos para darle vida a las nuevas instituciones que requiere la sociedad de hoy para responder a las exigencias del mañana.

La escuela de hoy es un producto de la revolución industrial. Fue concebida para producir obreros en masa, mano de obra barata y calificada en todos los niveles. La masificación de la educación, llevó a que los gobiernos tuvieran como meta erradicar el analfabetismo, de hecho, hasta hace muy poco se consideraba una gran conquista que todos los ciudadanos supieran al menos leer y escribir. Hoy, en plena era de la información, los avances tecnológicos están produciendo un nuevo tipo de analfabetismo, denominado como “analfabetismo funcional o informático”

En la era industrial bastaba con aprender a leer y escribir para medianamente defenderse ante las demandas del medio. Hoy, en la era de la información, saber hacerlo ya no es suficiente. Quienes, como mínimo no aprendan a dominar y moverse como pez en el agua por el gran océano de la Internet y las nuevas Tecnologías de la Información y la Comunicación (TICs), se verán relegados y pasaran a ser los nuevos analfabetos.

De modo pues que a las brechas sociales básicas existentes (la pobreza, el hambre, la marginalidad y la miseria) se le suma como consecuencia y subsidiaria de las anteriores, la brecha digital[1]. Porque ya no podemos decir que la era digital está por venir o que será cosa del futuro. Sin lugar a dudas, ya estamos en ella. [2]

Ahora bien, no basta con tener acceso a dichas tecnologías, es necesario plantearse de qué forma se debe hacer. Sobre el particular existen dos caminos: uno, el de consumidores pasivos, que reduce a la persona a un acceso a la tecnología en condiciones de “receptor pasivo” o con escasa participación siempre encuadrada en un formato dado e inmodificable. Y dos, el de ciudadanos y ciudadanas, capaces de crear y compartir conocimiento en la red, que utilizan las TICs para crear y construir culturas y nuevas sociedades. Ciudadanos y ciudadanas capaces de crear una red multinodal de difusión y que pueden construir sistemas de información porque comprenden, hablan y ponen en práctica la lengua informática. Estos ciudadanos usan la computadora como centro y gestión de comunicación.[3] Son alfabetizados en cultura digital o técnicamente hablando: Digeratis.[4]

De manera pues que aunque muchos se resistan, y tal y como lo señala Alvin Toffler “hoy es casi imposible imaginar el mundo sin internet, e internet sin la World Wide Web, dos de los instrumentos de conocimiento más poderosos jamás inventados.[5]

Se trata de una transformación sin precedentes porque es un nuevo medio con el potencial de incluir a todos los demás. Nunca un sistema de comunicaciones ha jugado tantos papeles en nuestras vidas -o ejercido semejante influencia sobre nuestros pensamientos- como Internet hace hoy[6]

En Colombia apenas estamos entrando a la cultura digital, no obstante, de acuerdo con la Comisión de Regulación de las Telecomunicaciones, la cantidad de conexiones o contratos de acceso a la Red en el país es de dos millones y en total, los usuarios de Internet  llegan a 17 millones. Es decir, 38 de cada 100 habitantes en nuestro país usan Internet.[7]

Así las cosas, resulta de vital importancia promover la Alfabetización Informática, hacer uso de ella en la creación de redes sociales, blogs, canales de TV, emisoras y demás medios que puedan ser manejados por los mismos usuarios; quienes a su vez pueden contribuir con la veeduría ciudadana, la construcción de conocimiento y el control político. Constituyéndose así en una forma de resistir a la manipulación mediática de los tradicionales medios de comunicación y los eternos poseedores de la “verdad”.

As I type these words I am enjoying the view of Kowloon across the Hong Kong harbour. Beyond Kowloon I can see the distant mountains in the New Territories. Somewhat to my left are the mountains of Hong Kong Island. I can see the moon-shaped Peak Tower on Victoria Peak over the high-rise buildings in Causeway Bay.

Panoramic views from a high place always bring me to a quiet space within me. Very early this morning, in the twilight zone between sleeping and waking, I again experienced an in-flow of new ideas — a process that happens to me countless times before. I am not sure exactly how the process takes place. After I receive them, my mind then shapes and clothes them into words, paragraphs and figures. Today the ideas came at the right time so that they can find their way into this blog. The middle three diagrams below are explicit rendering of the ideas that came to me this morning.

Following the long-term evolutionary framework in the last blog (see “Q27- Combining Megatrends #1 and #2: the Next Societal Innovations?”), we can see that forms of governance have been evolving also according to the two megatrends (the 3×3 diagram below was first presented to the Futuristics in Education course for Malaysian senior education officers last August 23, 2005 at SEAMEO INNOTECH). Glocality and counter-glocality were discussed in the previous blog on “More Power to Glocals!”

The great American democratic experiment can be viewed as a steady movement towards the lower left or indigo quadrant, the direction of the two megatrends (see previous blog). It remains to be seen how it will further evolve in the next centuries.

Tibetan Buddhism was never a centralized and doctrinaire religion from the beginning; it has been an independent experiential and learning-oriented practice among generations after generations of lamas or monks across Tibet, Mongolia and elsewhere.

The political loss of Tibet to the Peoples Republic of China led to the farther spread of Tibetan Buddhism as a personal practice across the globe; from our framework, this is movement towards the indigo quadrant. What has happened is consistent with what Padma Sambhava, the founder of Tibetan Buddhism, prophesied 1200 years ago that the Tibetan people “will be scattered like ants across the face of the Earth.”

However, we see from our framework that the evolution of Christianity was regressive from Pentecost up to the Middle Ages, and then it reversed back towards the indigo quadrant starting with the Protestant Reformation and continuing with Vatican II reforms.

The modern corporation is also evolving (see my blog on “From corporate disregard to corporate embrace of stakeholder capital to socially-embedded corporations”). The advent of knowledge management, organizational learning/presencing, corporate social responsibility or CSR practices, the power shift (see Alvin Toffler and Daniel Bell) to knowledge workers/enterprises and a “flatter world” according to Thomas Friedman, are forces that tend to push the modern corporate practice towards the indigo quadrant.
