Ok so remember when Amanda Bynes dated Doug Reinhardt for like two months and we always saw them out together? Then they suddenly broke up back in January of this year and next thing everyone knew Doug was dating Paris Hilton?

Apparently on Doug’s birthday last week, October 22, Amanda being a normal girl who has no ill will towards her ex texted Doug wishing him the best (typical birthday text) and Paris flipped out. According to Zacktaylor.ca, Paris”loves Doug but can’t stand that he keeps in contact with his ex and made him delete her from his contacts… She thinks Amanda is a slut and wants her out of the picture for good.”

Hahahah I had to share because it’s too funny. Paris Hilton thinks Amanda Bynes is a slut? Seriously, Paris? Last time I checked Amanda was still sex tape free and a working actress. And isn’t Paris a little old for these games now?

If it makes you feel good do it

28 years ago today the stars aligned, the seas roared, and this cinephile made her entrance into the world.  Birthdays always put me in a festive mood and in celebration of this occasion I offer you one of my most fave go-to films for a quick pick-me-up: John Waters’ Hairspray.

Hairspray (I have an affinity towards the 2007 version but am a true 80s baby and therefore honor the original ) is the story of integration in 1962 Baltimore set to dance and high school high jinks.  Leading the way is the pluckily plump teenager Tracy Turnblad who, upon discovering that her Black friends are talented booty shakers and bee-boppers, shakes up race relations (pardon the pun)  in an attempt to integrate the popular “Corny Collins” dance show.  What follows are upbeat dance sequences that bemoan segregation and celebrate individuality.  Yes and yes!

The inner fat girl of childhood’s past and the dancing machine I’ve become (thanks, New Orleans!) love watching this film over and over.  Much like my favorite train-wreck-of-a-film, Showgirls, once I start watching I just cant stop!  So be well today and throw in a jazzy dance step or two just for good measure!  If it makes you feel good do it!

Thinking about growing up as a child in the 90’s, i started to reminisce on all the GREAT video games, toys, and television shows i used to watch back then.  It’s amazing how care/worry free my life was when these programs were on the air.  Nowadays it seems my worries are paying bills, finding time to spend with all of my friends, or making sure i don’t forget to workout, for insurance that I do not look 180 pounds on camera.  Yes, television programs on Nickolodean are still for teenagers today, but they’re just not the same.  After doing some searching, I realized Nickelodeon was GOLD!  SO many great shows all on Nickelodean! Hope these bring back some old memories 80’s babies! Enjoy….

This is something for almost everyone, you should be able to know how to make your body look it best no matter what shape or size you may be.

What is My Body Shape?

There are four common body shapes, and a majority of women fall into one of those shape categories. Common body types include:

• The Apple Body Shape: Women with this type of shape usually have an upper body that is larger than their lower body. When women with this body type gain weight, it has a tendency to show around the waistline.

• The Pear Body Shape: Pear-shaped body types typically have a smaller upper body. Weight gain tends to fall in the hips, thighs, and legs.

• The Hourglass Shape: A defined waist and curvy upper and lower body are typical of this body type.

• The Rectangle Body Type: AKA athletic or straight body type, rectangular body shapes have fewer defined curves. Waist, hips, and breast measurements may be more similar to each other than with other body types, and weight gain is often evenly distributed.

Keep in mind that these are general shapes. Use the tips as a guideline to draw attention to your best features and look your best!

Body Shape Fashion Tips for Apple Types

Apple shapes can show off fabulous legs! Typically apply body shapes need to de-emphasize the waist, and sometimes minimize the appearance of broad shoulders or chest. Try a few of the following style tips:

• V-neck tops can create a more elongated look and draw eyes upward.
• Cinched waists or wrap tops and belted or nipped waist jackets can give the illusion of a smaller waist.
• Raised waist and empire tops and dresses can camouflage extra weight around the tummy.
• Go for low-rise, flat front jeans and pants in flared or wide leg styles, or boot cuts with slimming tops.
• Pair shorter skirts with tunic style to show off great legs and create proportion.

Tips for Pear Body Shapes

You girls can draw attention to the fabulous shoulders and top half. Look for clothing that broadens and adds dimension to shoulders and draws attention away from hips and thighs. Pear body shape fashion tips include:

• Choose wider necklines, such as squared, or cowl necks
• Blouses and tops with pattern and texture draw attention to the upper body.
• Pair light or brightly colored tops with darker bottoms for a more balanced look.
• Boot cut or boyfriend cut jeans and pants can help create the appearance of leaner looking legs for pears.
• A-line or asymmetric skirts skim the hips rather than drawing attention to them.
• Choose jackets that fall just above the hip rather than longer versions.

Usually you girls have slender bodies. Lucky you! You can create the illusion of more curves with a few rectangle body shape fashion tips:

• Low rise straight, flared or skinny jeanswith a lighter fade in the thigh area creates the illusion of curvier legs and hips.
• Layered looks can add more dimension to this figure type.
• Try tops and blouses that have detail around the bust area for shape.
• The dresses that are straight are styles that break up a silhouette with prints, patterns, dimension details like rouching, and tailored designs.

Tips for Hourglass Shapes

Hourglass shapes can show off their curves. You can either draw attention to a narrow waist and show off curves, or choose clothing that de-emphasizes bust and hips to create a longer, leaner look.

To show off curves:

• Choose waist-defining clothing like wrap dresses, cinches waists, and belted anything.
• High-waisted pants and skirts show off the waist and hips.
• Tailored blouses and fitted skirts and dresses show off your curves.

To elongate and balance an hourglass:

• Go for monochromatic colors for balance.
• Choose v-necks to flatter and draw the eye in vertical motion.
• Choose thin, lightweight fabrics to avoid adding extra bulk.
• Try pants or jeans with a slight flare for balance.

Hello-Hello and welcome to a Wednesday!

Today we share lots of little tidbit and pictures, many of them from the doings at New York Fashion Week.  First, the Ann Taylor presentation, the first time Annie T has done a show at Fashion Week.

The review in Women’s Wear Daily referenced the company’s ‘new direction’:

“… the affordable, working girl’s retailer is serious about its new attitude and willing to put its money where its mouth is.”

The palette was neutral, with none of the bright colors we adore.  Many of the pieces in the presentation are available now, a huge distinction from other firms showing in New York last week.

Those items not already in stores are scheduled to drop before the holidaze holidays.  Back to the presentation, WWD wrote about the notables in attendance:

“… so a gaggle of Ann Taylor-clad celebrities were wrangled to sit front row. Jennifer Esposito, Vanessa Williams, Mena Suvari, Gretchen Mol, Kelly Rutherford, Kelly Bensimon, Laila Ali, Katherine McPhee and Amanda Bynes came prepped with pro-Ann spiels, some which actually sounded sincere…”

The WSJ’s Heard on the Runway blog has more on what is driving the changes at the company:

“…Ann Taylor made a name for itself on women’s busines suits that were popular more than a decade ago. But it failed to evolve beyond those pieces,  slipping into a staid and dowdy style.”

We’re not convinced it has all been frumpish, but there is definitely an issue with the merchandise mix in recent years. We would contend that for those needing proper apparel in the workplace the company managed to keep some basics in the stores, pieces one could build a look around. Back to the show:

Additional thoughts from Heard on the Runway:

“Ann Taylor stepped up its styling game for Thursday evening to give its pieces more of a high-fashion aesthetic. The brand added feathers and pom poms to its so-called ”power sandal.” The overall presentation was at once edgy and sophisticated, prompting a collective “That’s Ann Taylor?” among audience members.”

The next pieces are a bit more formal, possibly the perfect look for upcoming parties and celebrations:

Overall the styles had a more contemporary look, we hope the company is able to rebound and capture the younger shoppers it desperately needs.

On the retail front we have word that Vera Bradley plans to open three more stores this year, in addition to last week’s Cincinnati opening. The new shops are slated for Palm Beach, opening Nov. 13 at the Gardens, and Tysons Corner, scheduled to open Oct. 16.

One last note, this one on Burberry: it would seem we are requested to cease calling it Burberry Plaid, instead referring to it as Burberry Check.  That suggestion comes from none other the label’s Creative Director an Christopher Bailey, in a recent profile in the New Yorker.

“And he hates when Burberry’s signature print is referred to as plaid: ”People keep saying to me it’s a plaid, and I’m like, ‘No, it’s a check!’”

Indeed.

De awards zijn al weg gegeven en de show wordt alweer herhaald, maar ik vind het toch wel

erg leuk om even de celebs op een rij te zetten en de jurkjes te bekijken!

Waarschijnlijk hebben jullie ook iedereen al gezien en je mening gegeven, maar voor mezelf vind ik het ook

leuk om alles even te bekijken. Ik ben zelf heel druk geweest met school en werken en dus heb ik

een tijdje geen tijd gehad om mijn blog te updaten. Maar beter laat dan nooit, dus hier de foto’s van de mtv

music video award show. Ik hou van het jurkje van Beyoncé! Om maar meteen met de deur in huis te vallen.

Het jurkje van Jennifer Lopez zou erg leuk zijn geweest zonder de creatie rond de armen. Zo vind

ik het jurkje echt niet mooi! Ook Stephanie Pratt en Kristin van de Hills vind ik er niet mooi uitzien.

Kristin ziet er altijd iets over de top uit en ook Stephanie ziet er dit keer te over de top uit. Ik vind het jurkje

van Stephanie erg schattig, maar in combinatie met de heels en juwelen  en haardacht is het

allemaal te veel. Ze doet me denken aan die ene van Making the Band. Alsof Stephanie ook iets

aan haar gezicht heeft laten veranderen.

They are almost a year old, and though it was okay to wear them back in June or July, still wearing them – or what’s worse: buying the first pair, like Miley Cyrus – in September is not what a fashionista would do. Kristin Cavallari wearing the slingback version at every event she appears…not cool either, booo. There might be T2-s in new colors, new textures, but basically it’s all the same, sorry.

I never thought it would happen one day: the YSL Tribute double platform pumps appear in the “Please don’t…” section of the blog!
