Umbla vorba ca cei de la Intel au descoperit o metoda prin care creierul uman poate controla computerele. Mai exact, au descoperit cum ar trebui sa functioneze acest lucru, urmand ca, zic ei, in 2020 aceasta metoda sa fie disponibila pentru toti. Dean Pomerleau, cercetatorul pe acest segment al celor de la Intel, incearca, cu alte cuvinte, sa ne convinga de ideea ca putem face lucruri extraordinare cu undele pe care le emite creierul nostru (nu ca am sti deja asta).

Stau si ma gandesc, totusi, daca ar fi posibil acest lucru, oare pot sa-mi fac un upgrade si la memorie? Sau, ar fi ceva daca mi-as putea pune un chip AMD pe mana dreapta si un chip Intel la creier – asta chiar ca ar genera ceva mai multe controverse. Din toate astea sper doar ca Intel sa nu ne oblige sa ne punem chipset-urile lor grafice si mai sper ca nu voi vedea o alta dezbatere cum ca tehnologia e inamicul numarul unu al religiei.

The third Supercomputer according to the Top 500 List is getting a CPU upgrade by Cray. The AMD Quad-Core processors are being replaced by Six-Core processors without having to replace any board.

In an SEC filing, AMD disclosed that it has now reversed all prior salary reductions. See below:

“As previously reported, on January 16, 2009, the Compensation Committee (the “Compensation Committee”) of the Board of Directors of Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (the “Company”) approved across-the-board reductions to annual base salaries, including the annual base salaries of all named executive officers, effective as of February 1, 2009.

Effective November 16, 2009, the Compensation Committee approved the reversal of these reductions commencing on November 23, 2009.

As a result, the reinstated annual base salaries of the named executive officers will be the following: (i) Mr. Derrick Meyer, the Company’s President and Chief Executive Officer, reinstated from $720,000 to $900,000; (ii) Mr. Robert Rivet, the Company’s Executive Vice President, Chief Operations and Administrative Officer, reinstated from $552,500 to $650,000; and (iii) Mr. Thomas McCoy, the Company’s Executive Vice President, Legal, Corporate and Public Affairs, reinstated from $462,400 to $544,000. Because annual bonus targets are a percentage of annual base salary, the across-the-board increases, in effect, would also increase fiscal 2009 annual bonus payments, if any. “

Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (NYSE: AMD) rose over 10% to a yearly high of $7.33 after the computer processor maker announced today that it would offer $500 million in senior notes, the cash from which will be used to purchase its 5.75 percent convertible notes due in 2012.

ASM International N.V. (NASDAQ:ASMI) rose over 5% to a yearly high of $24.69 after the semiconductor equipment maker was upgraded by Fortis Bank Nederland NV.

Autoliv Inc. (NYSE: ALV) rose over 3% to a yearly high of $41.84 after the airbag manufacturer said that production is holding up well in the fourth quarter.

Chico’s FAS Inc. (NYSE: CHS) rose over 14% to a yearly high of $15.43 after the women’s clothes retailer announced 3Q earnings of $0.13 per share, nearly doubling analysts expectations.  

General Growth Properties Inc. (OTC: GGWPQ) rose over 35% to a yearly high of $6.19 after Simon Property Group Inc. (NYSE: SPG) announced that it had hired Lazard Ltd to lookk into buying assets from General Growth.  

Longtop Financial Technologies Limited (NYSE: LFT) rose nearly 10% to a yearly high of $35.30 after the Chinese software developer said that it had added 3.7 million additional American depositary receipts priced at $31.25.

Deer & Company (NYSE: DE) rose over 6% to a yearly high of $52.28 after Jim Cramer recommended buying shares in the tractor maker, arguing that the company would benefit from increased agricultural activity.
