Belleville native Anthony Buccino has published his third poetry collection AMERICAN BOY: Pushing Sixty. Working class verse about life and growing up in New Jersey.From the center of the Baby Boom, his working class verse view life and growing up in the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s, and growing older in the 1980s, 1990s and the oughts.

Buccino will read from this and his other collections at the River Read Reading Series in Red Bank, N.J., on Sunday, Nov. 8. The afternoon also features reading by Susan Tepper, followed by an Open mic.

Buccino’s poem Hands In Socks was named Editor’s Choice in the 2008 Allen Ginsberg Awards. His poem Ten Minutes earned Honorable Mention in the 2009 Allen Ginsberg Awards.

His poems have been published in Paterson Literary Review; Celebrating William Carlos Williams and The Poetry of Place: North Jersey in Poetry; Rattlesnake Review (Poetry With Fangs); Medusa’s Kitchen; Voices in Italian Americana; Edison Literary Review; Journal of New Jersey Poets; LIPS; CHEST, the Journal of the American College of Chest Physicians; The Idiom; MEWS; Raving Dove; More Sweet Lemons; The Poem Factory; and PowWow Review.

A cantora é uma espécie de Lauryn Hill da cena Hip-Hop do velho mundo….e aí já vejo o primeiro empecilho : o velho mundo….é velho; na verdade, Estelle chegou atrasada, dado que a vanguarda das mulheres desse gênero musical pipocou no início dos anos noventa, com gente como Queen Latifah e a própria Lauryn – e ainda errou de continente – a sensação de ouvir quase todas as canções do CD (tirando American Boy) é a de estar no meio do Brooklyn, em Nova Iorque. E claro : como toda boa referência à condados cheios de rappers, o seu trabalho conta com o estraga-premiações-de-plantão Kanye West, na faixa American Boy.

Sendo sincera? O CD não traz nada de inovador; pelo contrário, até desenterra umas tendências (que pelo jeito estão na moda de novo), como a vibe anos 80 das faixas “do Brooklyn/Bronx/Harlem” e a anos 70 de American Boy. Dica : se você quer ouvir uma artista britânica com voz fina, ouça Lily Allen. Pelo menos você se diverte.

so today im spending some time working though my itunes library, and adding some new stuff in. the type of music i listen to varies greatly, but today im looking for one thing, songs to sing loudly to in the car. so i’ve been searching the internet to see what other people like, but their stuff sucks. so rather than to continue looking through lists that include Culture Club and/or Sir Mix Alot, im making my own of what i already have. hopefully it will help other people in my predicament. this list is in no order, it’s just what i put down as they came to me.

i LOVE elbow. all of their songs are great, but this is the first that i ever heard, and i’ve been stuck on it since.

so yeah, those are 15 of the many songs i like to sing in my car. i know that list looks like a crackhead put it together, but i’m really not kidding when i say i like all kinds of music. i hope it was helpful, or at least slightly entertaining.

Thanks to the multitude of applications available from Apple’s App Store, creating music through your phone has come a long way since Towelie’s “Funky Town.”

In fact, some, like rising YouTube sensation The Mentalists, are taking these applications quite seriously. Check out this band’s covers of MGMT’s “Kids” or Estelle’s “American Boy”.

Stanford University even has its own iPhone ensemble, called the Mobile Phone Orchestra, or MoPhO. MoPhoO director, Ge Wang, developed his own application for the group, called Ocarina, which turns the iPhone into a woodwind-like instrument sensitive to touch, movement, or breath.

The App Store has music applications for everything from digital drum pads to mash-up machines to kazoos. Some of the most popular include Jumpei Wada’s Mini Piano, Curious Brain Inc.’s TouchCords, and Magnus Larsson’s DigiDrummer Lite, all free. These apps are very user friendly, allowing even the least music-tech savvy people try their hand at a little music production.

Like you’ve probably guessed from my twitter! I’m super busy right now & just trying to stay focused & be on the ball. Estelle holla’d at me on Tuesday cos she was here for two day for a style awards ceremony, where she won an award. She wanted to get me on a track for a new project she’s working on…I can’t really say too much right now other than it features another artist who’s also doing BIG things that side of the water! I woke out my bed to get this done at 12.30am…the grind don’t stop otherwise you flop!

The featured video for the blog’s “YouTube Video of the Day” series is about one of the best live acts that I have seen ever in YouTube glory. This video shows The Ting Tings and Estelle work on the same stage. They performed the songs “That’s Not My Name”, “American Boy”, and “Shut Up And Let Me Go”. Enjoy!

every now and then a song comes along that so defines summer that you can’t help but feel like there’s sun shining down on your whenever you listen to it. last year it was estelle and kanye’s ‘american boy,’ a couple of years ago there was divine brown’s ‘old school love’ and now there is v.v. brown’s ’shark in the water.’

it’s so laid back and floaty and warm and just really fucking FANTASTIC! the lyrics are also brilliant from the title, to the opener: ’sometimes i get my head in a dilly’ and then later:

apparently v.v.’s career has yet to really take off despite two pretty amazing singles in the likes of leave! and crying blood but i have to believe that the british public will be hard pressed not to see the very apparent genius of ’shark in the water.’
a star is born?
i very much hope so.

in further shark in the water news, i started listening to this song soon after i had re-watched a futurama episode in which fry finds an 80s guy who was also defrosted in the year 3000 and subsequently takes over planet express. anyway, said 80s guy separates everyone into sharks and sheep. shark=good, sheep=bad. this is my new summer vocabulary. you are either a shark in the water (good) or a drowning sheep (bad).

so the real question is, are you a shark or are you a sheep?
