One of the more upscale American Eagle brands, Martin + Osa, is named for real life explorers Martin and Osa Johnson. The couple from Kansas pioneered the safari in the early 1900’s and produced many books and films about their adventures, documenting the wilderness, wildlife, and tribal customs of remote Africa and the South Pacific. The brand Martin & Osa has come a long way from the wilds of Africa, and is now a great place to find luxurious basics and sophisticated accessories.

Martin + Osa put a twist on the basics with stylish cuts and refined fabrics. There’s no reason your everyday wardrobe can’t be a little special. I’m into silk, flannel, and velvet for winter this year.

Which girl out there doesn’t love Boxing Day? It’s every shopper’s favourite holid

Which girl out there doesn’t love Boxing Day? It’s every shopper’s favourite holiday. Haha. Since I’ve been wanting my American Eagle hoodie for months now, my parents decided today would be a good day to get it for me. I got two since they were on sale. I’m a happy girl. Seriously.

Next, I wanna say a big THANK YOU to everyone out there who viewed my blog yesterday. I got 42 views which is the most I have ever gotten in one day. I am well aware that there are people out there who gets hundreds if not thousands of views per day, but I’m still a n00b at this, ok?

Anyways, Microsoft Powerpoint has not been cooperating with me today. On my main hard drive, it says the program has a virus. Then, on my laptop, it refuses to save Powerpoint files without crashing. Now, I’m on my back up hard drive that I have. It works and saves, but the formate saved is .. odd. I don’t know how to describe it, but I’ll be checking with my teacher when we get back to school.

Daily MLIA:

1. A couple of weeks ago, I was eating chinese food and my fortune read, “The love of your life is right in front of your eyes.” I look up, and my dog is standing there staring at me. MLIA

2. In Geometry one day, my teacher asked the class what happens when two geometric planes meet. A student in the front said,”They crash.” MLIA

3. Today at work someone asked me the proper way to pronounce my place of employment: Pets Mart or Pet Smart. I really have no idea. MLIA

4. Today, I got a huge bruise on my leg. Whoever said sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me obviously has never been attacked by a dictionary. MLIA.

5. Today, my dad was playing Scrabble on his iPhone. His last word was “TIT” and the game then said “Congratulations! Your rack has been emptied!” MLIA.

You may have to drop some elbows, but there's still time for some really good last minute gifts.

You may have to drop some elbows, but there's still time for some really good last minute gifts.

So it’s Christmas Eve, you just got home from school, and sometime between the TV marathons and the Facebook-stalking your BFFs on their tropical vacations, you realized you hadn’t done much Christmas shopping. And now it’s Christmas Eve and you still haven’t gotten those important people their gifts yet.

Uh oh.

Well, not to worry; It’s On has done your shopping for you. I’ll tell you where you can still go today to get all of the holiday essentials. And don’t worry -I’m not sending you to CVS to pick up a box of chocolates and whatever other weird stuff they’re trying to sell by the checkout counter. There are some really legit stores staying open today for the lazy people of the world those busy last-minute shopppers.

Stick with me (and get ready to battle for some parking spots) and in the next few hours you’ll be home wrapping those special gifts for those special people.

In an effort to make things easier on everyone I’ve tried to identify 5 basic gifts – perfume, sweaters, hat/gloves/scarf set, bags, and entertainment – that people usually covet this time of year. And instead of my normal head to head match-ups, I’ve given you two stores per item that WILL BE OPEN today.

Oh and don’t forget to check out CouponCabin.com before you go; you may even still be able to snag some good deals today!

I know, I just saved your life.

Entertainment:
This includes iPods, iPhone/iPod Accessories, CDs, Blu-Rays and other things that you can find for the movie/TV/music lover. If all else fails – and you find yourself staring at a wall of DVDs and have no clue which they’d want – a 3-month membership to Netflix is never a bad idea. And you don’t even need to leave the house to get it.

Best Buy
(Not always the cheapest store, but they do have plenty of good coupons on everything from digital cameras to DVDs right now!)
9:00am-10:00pm

Game Stop
(You can grab a bunch of used games for cheap, new games, and some awesome gaming accessories. Like a new guitar for Guitar Hero. You know, so maybe your bro will let you play sometimes.)
10:00am-8:00pm

Perfume:
People LOVE perfume. And the best thing about buying perfume this time of year is that they all come in some pretty sweet gift sets. You can break these up into lots of smaller gifts for people you don’t want to spend a lot on (!!), or give the whole shebang to those super important people in your life. If you want a good deal (without having to buy some nasty grandma scent from 6 years ago), Macy’s and Kohl’s are your best bet.

Macy’s
7:00am-6:00pm

Kohls
6:00am-6:00pm

Bags
Most of the good stuff was picked over weeks ago, so you may not have much luck finding something cute with only a few hours until Santa hits the friendly skies. (The good news is, what’s left tends to be marked down a lot!) But if you wanna try, I recommend hitting up Target and Macy’s. If nothing else, at least you’ll have a large selection of other stuff to look through if they don’t have what you came for.

Target
7:00am-7:00pm

Macy’s
7:00am-6:00pm

Hat/Gloves/Scarf Set
This is essential, cheap and comes in a bunch of varieties to fit every style.

Target
7:00am-7:00pm

Macy’s
7:00am-6:00pm

Sweaters
The ULTIMATE multipurpose gift, sweaters can be found virtually everywhere, but, again, if you need quick, decently priced and before Christmas, there are two stores that will definitely have the best stock.

H&M
They have special hours in certain locations. I’d advise you calling your H&M of choice to find out specific hours.

American Eagle Outfitters
Again, call your store of choice to find when they close

The only other advice I can give you is to get moving early this morning. And wear comfortable shoes. Oh, and wear your seat belt. There is nothing more dangerous than a mall parking lot the day before Christmas. Nothing.

Until next year, Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!

Merry Christmas Eve everyone! This morning I decided to try something a tad bit “adventurous

Merry Christmas Eve everyone! This morning I decided to try something a tad bit “adventurous” with the wardrobe. The infamous sweater vest X cardigan X polo shirt combination! Actually, it’s not infamous at all and I’m sure I’m not the first person to do it but since I’ve never seen anyone else rock it, I’m giving myself FULL credit until proven wrong. I like it. I thought I would like kinda stuffy but it came out pretty decent in my opinion. Oh, notice the polo is buttoned to the top. I think that’s a Southern thing but I can’t confirm. Anyone know anything about that?

Sweater vest: I have no clue and I’m too lazy to look at the tag but it’s argyle and that has to count for something | Polo shirt: Good ol’ Ralphy | Cardigan: American Eagle

Do you think otherwise?

Hey all; I’ve just arrived in Jersey City @ the Double Tree Hotel. The weather is about 20 or so degrees here but with the windchill factor it feels like 15. Getting here wasn’t too terrible – it is the holidays after-all.

We had a connection flight in Arkansas that took my family and I to NY; and I don’t think I’ve ever experienced a flight attendent as odd as that one (flying on American Eagle). I filmed some of his rantings and uploaded the vid from my iPhone to YouTube. It’s worth a watch.

So It’s 12:21 am EST and I need to go to bed so I can be prepared for tomorrows happenings. Have a good evening and I’ll be posting photos here shortly.

Best,

What’s more depressing, that I want something from Hot Topic? Or that I want a shirt that says Dragon Age, 1) so I can wear it (obviously) and 2) because then I get the Mark of Vigilance amulet?

… I have got to stop listening to Pedo Bear. It’s so hard to say no though, *muah!

Also – how funny is it that when you’re little you HATE getting clothing … ok like socks, I’ve never been a socks person. I hate when my feet feel trapped. I also don’t like being tucked in – it freaks me out a lot. Anyway – so then when you’re older, I’ve realized that basically the only things I want are clothing.

I’m proud (?) to say that I’m branching away from the Hollister Co. Except for their sweaters – they’re amazing. Ok and I will always love AE jeans. But basically, unless I’m going out I just want to wear jeans, sneakers and a t-shirt … the only thing I feel that is the issue here is that all the shirts I’ve picked out consist of video games, cracked out musicians… and lately, I’ve been making my hair very VERY large. I’ve always felt a calling to arm and leg warmers too. Generally I think a part of me wished I had been this age back in the late 1980s to early 1990s. Then again, I can’t fathom what life would be like without a cell and my mac. I honestly … if I couldn’t text…

… and to think when I was little I wanted to be a pioneer. My how dreams change.

back in the day I used to be the biggest American Eagle fan. back in the early 2000s being an AE sales associate was my DREAM job. yep… good times.

anyways, AE is really trying to step up their game this year, but i’m wondering why… they are hosting parties with B-list (?) celebrities, including Leighton Meester, Adrian Grenier, Jessica Szohr, the girls from The City and Christian Siriano. their newest ad campaigns actually include 2 Canadian models: Heather Marks and Julia Dunstall. these models are either desperate for work, or AE is paying them large sums of money in hopes of reliving their early millenial success…

well with a new decade comes new opportunities i suppose.

There are lots of silly people in the world. Chief among them are those who think that you have to

There are lots of silly people in the world. Chief among them are those who think that you have to dress like a wooly mammoth to stay warm during the winter. Chief Silly People among those people are the ones who think that the only functional winter coat has to be a drab, marshmallow-looking affair. While I don’t deny the power of the puffy coat (I myself have two, and they’re fantastic), not all winter gear has to suck the fun out of dressing, even in frigid Chicago (my adopted city).

So, for all those of you who’ve been led to believe that cold and snow equals hibernation in ugly outwear, here’s a how-to that’ll change your days.

How to Buy a Practical Winter Coat (That Isn’t Ugly as Sin)

1: FIT!

When it comes to how a winter coat should fit, my advice falls somewhere between a grandmother’s and a stripper’s. I disagree with the grandmothers of the world who say, “That coat needs to be big enough to fit five sweaters under it!” Likewise, I think that owning a coat that hardly buttons over your…well, you know…makes little to no sense if you don’t live in south Florida.

Ideally, a coat should fit snugly with some room to move around. When you try on a coat, make sure you can lift your arms over your head and bend your elbows up toward your chest. Try the “hug test”, also known as “doing the wrestler.” You want to be able to make a ring in front of you with your arms to be sure that the material has enough give in the back and sleeves.

Also, make sure that the length of the coat is appropriate. Something too long or short can be a problem, depending on climate and personal style. I find that anything too sweeping is impractical- it gets dirty when it drags the ground, gets icky in the snow, trips you up, etc – as is anything that’s cropped- you can only wear it with certain outfits and it doesn’t really work as a daily/regular ”winter coat.” Sleeve length is important, too. Make sure that sleeves come just to the wrist. Too short and there might be a gap between your gloves and your cuffs. Too long and you look like a kid playing dress-up in Mommy’s closet.

The shape of your body is important here. Choose something that flatters you. If you’re thin and lack curves, subtle ruffles or fun hems can give you some extra shape. If you’re curvy or bottom heavy, a sleek silhouette can slim and streamline. Collars that frame the face can add some extra sass to outwear that can get a bit boring. Coats with belts and tailored middles are often a good choice for anyone, but especially those who need some extra definition in the waist.

2: STYLE!

The style and shape of your coat matters. In winter months, it’s often the first thing people will see of your outfit. Even if you’re decked out underneath, wearing an ugly or ill-fitting coat messes up your first visual impression. Now, that wouldn’t be the end of the world, but this is a fashion blog, so we’re talking about looking good AND being practical.

Think about your general style- classical, preppy, funky, romantic, etc- and look for a coat that you feel will generally work with most of your clothes. Think about your lifestyle, too, and choose something that works with it. Choosing a long fur coat doesn’t make sense if you walk to work or school, especially if it snows where you live. If you work in a conservative industry or one where you’re required to wear business-casual clothing, rocking out a funky plaid or crazy color isn’t necessarily the best choice. Wool is almost always a good bet, provided that you have a back-up coat for days of heavy rain.

Check out the lining in any coat you buy. Even if you’re buying thick wool or down, a good lining is essential to keeping out cold wind.

3: PRICE!

I’ve already established my cheap-skate-ness on this blog. However, a winter coat is one of those things on which I’m willing to throw down some serious fundage. I live in Chicago, where winter lasts longer than life, so having a quality coat that will last me for years makes a lot of sense. After all, you only buy quality once, you get what you pay for, etc etc. Still, it is possible to buy a good coat without breaking the bank. Stores like Land’s End and REI have great deals (though not always awesome styles) and Filene’s Basement and lots of thrift stores can yield amazing finds if you’re willing to invest the time and energy to treasure hunt them. I generally have a rule that anything under $300 is an acceptable price for something you know you’ll wear for years and with lots of outfits, but if you do your homework and take your time, it’s not difficult to find something closer to $100.

Here are some examples of stylish (but not totally astronomically priced) winter coats.

Undergrad Graduation Day Many pastors and ministers to be are thrilled to “go unto the world a

Undergrad Graduation Day
Many pastors and ministers to be are thrilled to “go unto the world and preach the gospel”. Chalk full of theology, exegesis, and confidence, and we are ready to reach the world for Jesus Christ.

Year Following Graduation
Work the backroom at American Eagle or make lattes for Starbucks while you apply for grad school or seminary.

Graduate School/Seminary Graduation
The joke that theologians are just people answering questions nobody is asking is not funny. More and more confidence abounds to will-be-pastors and ministers.

I was ready and prepared to do ministry now. I am pretty solid on where I stand doctrinally, theologically, and most importantly, I know where I fall on the T.U.L.I.P. scale.

First Month of Pastoral Ministry
I have no idea what to tell a student who comes to me fearing she may have contracted AIDS while doing missions work in Africa.

Where was THAT class?

Second Month of Pastoral Ministry
Random jibberish terms like: ministry budget, proposed budget, faith budget, overdrawn, fleeting resources, income not meeting spending, church mortgage, pay roll, etc.

“It was my understanding there would be no math.”

Third Month of Pastoral Ministry
A call is made of an elderly man in the ICU who is not expected to live through the weekend. All he wants is to speak to a pastor.

You’re a pastor! Your nicely framed diploma says so.

It turns out a man who has owned more cars than years you’ve been alive does not want to hear much from a young ministry graduate as he’s preparing to meet Jesus face to face.

He asks nothing about total depravity. Too bad, I was prepared for that question.

Fourth Month of Pastoral Ministry
Another homeless addict has made his way through the doors wanting to speak to a pastor. Maybe he’s in dire need! Maybe he’s manipulating you for things he does not need that you do not have.

I don’t remember learning about this anywhere.

Fifth Month of Pastoral Ministry
The congregation is already a bit upset with changes you have made when God continues to inspire you to new things. One person wants to talk about it WITH YOU (if you’re lucky).

Conflict!

And it is not conflict about whether baptism should be sprinkle or immersion.

Conflict = YOU! You are the problem…always!

Where was my class about that?

Sixth Month of Pastoral Ministry
Start to wonder if your pastoral ministry degree and classes really gave you everything needed to be a pastor.

When the weather outside gets frightful and bundling up seems quite delightful, the must-have access

When the weather outside gets frightful and bundling up seems quite delightful, the must-have accessory to keep you warm is a scarf. Not only perfect for keeping your neck warm (or covering up any unwanted marks left from last night), the scarf is also a chic way to add some oomph to your otherwise blah winter outfit. Because when you’re bundled up from hood to Sorel, you need a little pop of color or pattern to show you still got style, even when it’s freezing cold outside.

As anyone will know, scarves come in every color and pattern imaginable, as well as a variety of different textures. There is literally something out there for everyone. And now they’re so versatile! The hot new infinity scarf can be worn a variety of ways, including as a hood/scarf to keep you toasty. Or, if you have its American Apparel circle scarf counterpart, you can also wear it as a skirt… or a cape.

Scarves are available in pretty much every clothing store, meaning there are ample opportunities to pick up one (or twenty) for yourself this season. As there are scarves in every price point, and every style possible, they also make for the perfect gift for anyone and everyone on your Christmas list. I mean, really, who doesn’t like a scarf??

It is a fact that dressing the part not only helps you to be successful, but also makes you feel won

It is a fact that dressing the part not only helps you to be successful, but also makes you feel wonderful. So, in light of my recent graduation and plans for moving to New York City, I set out to buy clothes that would prepare me for any event. Like anything worth doing, this required a bit of preparation. I started saving for on big shopping spree because it is much more satisfying to come home with lots of things rather than just one. Eventually I had a $350 budget by putting money aside from my birthday, and whatever I could squeeze out of my paycheck. I found ten staple items that will help me achieve a timeless look and take me from the office well into the evening hours.

1. A Classic Suit

The classic suit in black is great for work and after hours. This consists of three pieces: A suit jacket, skirt, and pants. This is the outfit you should wear to an interview or work. It is important to dress for the job you want. Not only will people take you more seriously, but ninety-three percent of managers surveyed said a person’s style of dress at work can influence his or her chances of earning a promotion¹. A suit is crucial to your career and the individual pieces add elegance to a variety of outfits.

2. A White Shirt

A crisp, long-sleeve, white shirt is the building block of your wardrobe. There are numerous varieties of this staple, but you can’t go wrong with a basic white collared button up shirt. It looks great on its own with trousers or a skirt. You can also wear it under a cardigan or with a jacket.

3. A Little Black Dress

A black dress is slimming and will match accessories of almost any color. Symbolically the color black means classic or new. It exudes formality, wealth, style, and elegance². I’ve chosen the sheath dress as a staple because it has slight curves and darting that tend to emphasize a beautiful, hourglass shape, even if your shape is not exactly perfect³. I just purchased this $150 dollar dress on Ebay for $44.00. What a steal! This dress is great for cocktail parties or formal events. Even if you don’t have somewhere to wear it to now, after buying a little black dress, an event is sure to pop up.

4. A Classic Pump

A classic pump is a staple of a well constructed wardrobe. Any closed toe pump is acceptable to wear at the office. Wearing heels gives you a statuesque look and adjust a womens body proportions to come closer to perceived ideals(4). Plus, it is extremely versatile so there is no problem going from the office to a night out.

5. A Skirt that Flatters Your Figure

A skirt will instantly dress up any outfit. Buy a straight cut skirt if you are petite or top-heavy; A-line if you are heavier around the hips/thighs; either one if you have a boyish figure. Stick to neutral colors or a classic pattern, like tweed, that can be paired with different colors and textures depending on the occasion.

6. Fresh T-Shirts in White and Black

T-Shirts are perfect for when you just can’t figure out what to wear. Buy at least one in a solid color, preferably white or black. You can layer them or sport them with fabulous accessories like bracelets, a scarf, rings, or necklace for an effortlessly stylish look. You can get a great deal on these in the off-season. Once I found two great white tee shirts at Eddie Bauer for $10 each.

7. Flat Front Bootleg-Cut Pant

Get this staple in a dressy khaki, black, or dark blue color. The flat front cut is flattering for all body types.

8. A Denim Jacket

Buy a fitted denim jacket in a darker wash to make an outfit look more polished. It looks great over a blouse paired with a skirt, pants, shorts, or a sun dress.

9. A Great Handbag

All holds barred with this one. Just make sure it works for you in every situation.

10. A Favorite Pair of Jeans

This is one of the most important staples for your wardrobe. It’s okay to splurge on these. Find a pair that are flattering on you and make you feel fabulous.

Among the typical wintertime necessities, gloves would be my “nice to have” as opposed to my “must have.” My hands are usually pretty warm as long as I keep them in my coat pocket or something. To be honest, just thinking about wearing gloves makes my hands itch. Now, of course I’ll wear them when I go skiing, or when I engage in a friendly snowball fight here and there. I’m still human, geez.

The only sad part about my body physically rejecting gloves is precisely the fact that I can’t wear them, at least not for longer than minutes at a time. The most glamorous my hands will ever get is with an at-home manicure from my extensive Wet-n-Wild collection. Fancy, I know.

Still, that doesn’t mean a girl can’t look.

Do you want to get your customer talking? Then wow them.

I recently placed an order with American Eagle Outfitters for some winter clothes. They shipped all of my stuff for free and didn’t leave anything out of my order. But this is what I have come to expect from any retailer. I expect free shipping, I expect to get it quick, and I expect my order to be accurate.

This is the problem that many companies face with word of mouth marketing. Your company might be good, but that’s not good enough. Nobody is going to talk about your company because everybody already knows that your company is good. You have to find a way to be remarkable, to give your customer a reason to talk.

American Eagle found a way to be remarkable, they included a $10 money card in my order. It was totally unexpected and utterly awesome. I have already told six people about it.

Word of mouth needs a reason to talk. Like the example above, it often has nothing to do with core product features. Think about it. We talk about fun and unexpected things. Burger King’s Subservient Chicken, Jones Soda’s Turkey & Gravy soda, Duct Tape’s Stuck at Prom.

Who has wowed you?

Some can look like bath mats, but this one is soft and touchable and will make people want to hug you when you’re wearing it. Its perfect layered over plaid shirts and hoodies for a comfy winter look. Be sure to limit yourself to one furry piece at a time. You will look like a wookie if you pile on a furry vest, furry boots, and a furry hat.

PS. Merry Christmas to me! I found this vest under my Christmas tree yesterday (thanks Mom!) and I can’t wait to wear it. The fact that my dad and brothers make Chewbacca noises every time they see it do not lessen my love for it at all! (Boys just don’t get fashion…)

I’m starting to get into the Christmas spirit. While I’m listening to classics like Mariah Carey’s All I Want for Christmas is You, or new favorites like Lady Gaga’s Christmas Tree, I find the Christmas spirit inspiring my wardrobe. My favorite way to express my Christmas cheer: wearing red.

Red is a confidence color, making you feel hot, hot, hot when you wear it. As red is known to boost self-confidence it is the perfect color to wear to family dinner when you’re facing interrogation from your Aunts as to why you don’t have a boyfriend yet. Red is also known to attract men, so put on that sexy red dress if you’re single (or wanting to impress your beau) when you’re hitting the town.

There are many fabulous ways to wear red this year – from the sexy red dress to the bold red bag – and here are just a few of my favorite ways to rock the hottest holiday color.
