[worldnow id=8901736 width=420 height=315 type=video] DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - After disaster strikes,

[worldnow id=8901736 width=420 height=315 type=video]

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - After disaster strikes, many North Texans begin looking for ways to help out. Several DFW area groups are already reaching out to our neighbors in Moore, Oklahoma. A powerful twister ripped through the community on Monday, leaving dozens dead, hundreds more injured and buildings flattened.

Most of those groups which are offering assistance, including the American Red Cross, need monetary donations.

Anyone can easily give $10 to recovery efforts by texting REDCROSS to 90999.

People and pets have been separated in the storm. The Central Oklahoma Humane Society and the Humane Society of the United States are also accepting donations to help reunite victims with their furry loved ones.

The Salvation Army and Oklahoma Disaster Relief groups are delivering food to victims. But they need money to support those efforts.

The Food Bank of Oklahoma could also use donations to help those impacted by the storm.

If you are strapped for cash, the American Red Cross will also accept blood donations. Those who are healthy enough to donate blood can simply go to any American Red Cross location and they will help you out.

In the meantime, Gov. Rick Perry sent teams from Texas to assist in ongoing efforts in Moore, the city hit hardest by the tornado on Monday. Texas Task Force 1 is a well-trained urban search and rescue team, and they left College Station early Tuesday morning to help out in Oklahoma. Members of that team were recently deployed in Granbury to assist tornado victims there as well.

It’s not enough to write that our hearts and prayers go out to the residents of Moore, Oklahoma. It’s not enough to look at the devastation on TV or on the internet.

Reading about this tragedy just reminds me of how vulnerable we all are against the forces of nature.

When Hurricane Katrina struck, I wanted to do something, anything to help, so I decided to volunteer my services to the American Red Cross. It allowed me to help in some small way.

I write a political blog and I’ll talk about the politics of disaster relief in a forthcoming post.

For now, the following is from the American Red Cross:

The American Red Cross has one shelter open in Moore and is working on locating others; we continue to operate three shelters that were opened Sunday in the Oklahoma City area following the storms on Sunday.

Red Cross volunteers are out tonight with food and supplies supporting first responders.

More than 25 emergency response vehicles are positioned to move at first light Tuesday, and we expect that the number will increase. The Red Cross is also sending in kitchen support trailers to support the upcoming operation to provide meals to those forced out of their homes.

People in Oklahoma near the tornado area are encouraged to connect with one another and let loved ones know that they are safe. This can be done through the I’m Safe feature of the free Red Cross tornado app. In addition, if you have access to a computer, go to redcross.org/safeandwell to list yourself as safe. If not, you can text loved ones or call a family member and ask them to register you on the site.

This has been a major disaster, and the Red Cross will be there for the people in this state and this community.

People who wish to make a donation can support American Red Cross Disaster Relief, which helps provide food, shelter and emotional support to those affected by disasters like the recent tornadoes in Oklahoma and Texas as well as disasters big and small throughout the United States by visiting redcross.org, dialing 1-800-REDCROSS or texting REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation.

Drex and Maney, both new fathers, are devastated to think what the parents of those lost are going through.

The massive storm flattened homes and destroyed cities as well as two elementary schools.

Today was a very bad day in Moore Oklahoma. A massive tornado came through the town south of Oklahoma City around 3:00 pm Monday afternoon. Here are some videos of that tornado.

Here is a time-lapse video of the tornado hitting Moore, OK from one of the news helicopters.

Here is a video showing a family getting out of their storm shelter after the tornado passed. You can still see the tornado at times in the distance.

The tornado took a very similar track to the May 1999 tornado and the 2003 tornado. These two maps are from the National Weather Service and KFOR-TV.

As im sure you all know by now, many people are in mourning today in Oklahoma. And the story is the same for many other areas, as of yesterday. Some have lost there lives, others have lost everything.

I decided it was as good a time as any, to make a donation to the American Red Cross. Though I am cash strapped at the moment, I gave what I could afford ($10).

I challenge you to meet, or beat, my gift. To a charity of your choice.

Heck, any amount will help.

Do not feel obligated, by this.

But I encourage all, to give what you can. Many people are starting over from scratch. So any help they can get, will be appreciated.

First, I want to send my prayers out to the people of Moore, Oklahoma. I hope they find more survivors in the buildings and schools.

If you would like to make a donation to the American Red Cross, you can text REDCROSS TO 90999. It’s a $10 donation and its for a great cause.

Red Cross Statement on Oklahoma Tornado
May 20, 2013:

Our thoughts and concerns go to everyone in Oklahoma following this horrific tornado.

The American Red Cross has one shelter open in Moore and is working on locating others; we continue to operate three shelters that were opened Sunday in the Oklahoma City area following the storms on Sunday. .

This week has been a rough week for many locales in the Midwest with serve weather and an outbreak of tornados. Ground zero for many of these storms has been the State of Oklahoma, the center of we call “Tornado Ally” and today that state, particularly the suburban communities around Oklahoma City were devastated by what might be one of the most powerful tornados ever to hit an American city. Ground zero was the city of Moore Oklahoma, no stranger to such weather having been hit by major tornados in 1998, 1999 and 2004. Today’s tornado is estimated to be at least an EF-4 with winds of 160 miles an hour and some estimate that it could be an EF-5, the strongest category of tornado with winds of 200 miles an hour cutting a swath of destruction a mile wide at the base of the tornado and a path 20 miles long. It was on the ground about minutes hitting its crescendo as hit struck Moore. Whole neighborhoods are destroyed with only driveways and foundations remaining.

See the time lapse video on NBC News: http://www.nbcnews.com/video/nbc-news/51945473/#51945473

The casualties continue to mount. At least 51 are known dead and hundreds injured at the present time and the toll is certain to mount. The areas hit included residential areas as well as schools and hospitals. Two schools received direct hits and one of those schools has reported that students were killed. The major hospital in the city was destroyed and now unable to operate. First responders in many cases are often victims themselves and quite possibly will return to their homes and find that they no longer exist. Lives destroyed and disrupted and property destroyed or severely damaged. The people in Oklahoma are incredibly resilient and tough but they will need help from other Americans, both through the Federal and State Governments but also from various relief agencies such as the Red Cross, Salvation Army Disaster Services and other agencies who are trained and equipped to give aid.

This happened to our fellow citizens, Americans. These are American citizens just as other Americans were impacted by Hurricanes Sandy and Katrina, the city of Joplin Missouri destroyed by a tornado much like the one that hit Oklahoma today. In other places in this country whole areas have been devastated by flooding along the Mississippi, Red and Missouri Rivers, and earthquakes like the one that hit the San Francisco Bay area in 1989.

I have been through tornados, major hurricanes and severe earthquakes. I have provided emergency assistance directing an emergency shelter for a hurricane and post disaster counseling to staff members of a school destroyed by a tornado. All things being equal I would rather go through an earthquake or hurricane any day of the week before I ever want to go through another tornado. There is something unearthly in the way they wreak devastation, almost a terrible randomness as to where they hit and what survives and does not.

Please pray for those affected and do what you can to help. To do so through the Red Cross either go to their website www.redcross.org or text REDCROSS 90999. To do so through the Salvation Army go to their website https://donate.salvationarmyusa.org/uss/eds/aok or text “STORM” to 80888 to make a $10 donation through your mobile phone; to confirm your gift, respond with the word “Yes.” A state religious group, the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma is also providing relief services and those that want to donate to them can do so through their website at http://www.bgco.org/ministries/disaster-relief/donate-to-disaster-relief

Of course there are other ways to give but those are the first that came to my mind and ones that I believe will be able to respond quickly.

Please, these are Americans. I know that last year when Sandy hit the East Coast that some pundits and politicians did what they could to obstruct aid to the affected areas citing their “principles.” However to me it doesn’t matter if an American is a Republican or Democrat, if a State is a “Red State” or a “Blue State” but rather that they are Americans and that as Americans we are either in this together or we are not. As a Christian I cannot simply say that person is not my neighbor because they do not vote like me, share my faith or live in a different part of the country. They are my neighbors and if you are an American they are yours. Please do what you can to help through private means and encourage your representatives to speed Federal assistance to the people of Oklahoma and other areas hit by these terrible storms.

Peace

(CNN) — Much of Moore, Oklahoma, which is just outside of Oklahoma City, is now a devastated pile of rubble.

The search and rescue mission continues after a massive tornado touched down Monday afternoon. CNN affiliate KFOR reported that at one time, the tornado was estimated to be at least 2 miles wide, and the National Weather Service is also saying the scale of the tornado is at least EF4. This is the second most severe classification of tornado.

It is clear the days ahead are grave for the people of Oklahoma and the need for help will be immense.

Many unaffected viewers want to help. How can you donate?

Text STORM to 80888 for The Salvation Army USA.
Text REDCROSS to 90999 $10 donations, or
FOOD to 32333 for Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma.

There are several organizations already mobilizing on the ground in Moore, and you can help as well through these groups:

The Red Cross

The Red Cross of Oklahoma has activated its safe and well website for those who are trying to reconnect with loved ones. Red Cross officials and volunteers are also beginning to open shelters. The first is at St. Andrews Church. You can help their efforts by donating to the Red Cross online or by texting REDCROSS to 90999.

The Salvation Army

The Salvation Army has also jumped into action. It’s in multiple locations throughout cities in Oklahoma providing food, hydration and emotional support to first responders and storm survivors. You can contribute to the Salvation Army by calling 1-800-SAL-ARMY (1-800-725-2769), online on their website, by texting “STORM” to 80888 to make an automatic $10 donation or by mail:

The Salvation Army PO Box 12600 Oklahoma City, OK 73157

Feeding America

Feeding America is responding by providing food, water and supplies to the residents of the devastated towns in Oklahoma. The group will continue to assess the need on the ground for more assistance as recovery efforts continue.

Samaritan’s Purse

Samaritan’s Purse deployed a group of staff members to travel from its North Carolina headquarters to head to Oklahoma with a Disaster Relief Unit. The unit is a tractor trailer stocked with emergency supplies and equipment.

AmeriCares

Global health and disaster relief nonprofit AmeriCares is also mobilizing a team to help in Oklahoma. Its emergency response team is headed to the region to coordinate deliveries of relief supplies and medical aid for survivors. The team is expected to arrive by morning.

Team Rubicon

Team Rubicon, a group of military veterans who respond to disaster, have issued the call to members and is heading to the region. By Tuesday morning, initial assessment teams will be on the ground, and they will then mobilize a full response to help the people affected by these storms.

Edited 5/20/13 9:20 pm EDT: These pictures and post were done before I found out about the horrific devastation in Oklahoma today. Obviously, this post is about an insignificant and harmless early-summer thunderstorm, nothing like what people experienced in Oklahoma today.

Country music came out on top during the live finale of the the NBC reality competition All-Star Celebrity Apprentice. Singer Trace Adkins won the top spot over his fellow finalist, magician Penn Jillette.

The real winner, though, is Trace’s chosen charity, the Red Cross, which will receive more than $1.5 million as a result of his win. This includes a $250,000 first-place prize.

Thanks to everyone that watched, bought, tweeted, donated and cheered!Your love will give @redcross so much! – Team Trace

— TraceAdkins (@TraceAdkins) May 20, 2013

Trace’s win came at the tail end of a whirlwind week for the veteran singer. The previous Tuesday he released his latest album Love Will…, a collection of love songs that he said in a recent interview came together in part thanks to Donald Trump and the scheduling requirements for Celebrity Apprentice.

The final episode of Celebrity Apprentice took place Sunday night (May 19) during a live broadcast. The competition involved selling ice cream through the Walgreen’s chain. Trace was selling Maple Macadamia Mash-Up, while Penn was selling Vanilla & Chocolate Magic Swurtle. During the week of competition Penn actually sold more ice cream.

The winner, though, was chosen based on more than just the product sales. As Trace said to Trump in the final moments of the show, before the decision was announced: “Going into this last task I think I delivered the best ice cream, I made the best commercial, I put on the best show, I brought in the biggest celebrities, and I raised the most money.” Hard to argue with that.

Congrats Trace on winning #CelebrityApprentice!

This is a very heartening story! It’s nice to know that some young minds don’t buy all that Spielberg crap! – BDL1983

A 15-year-old girl from Southern California who attends a public high school tells the story of how she recently became aware of questions concerning the holocaust. After hearing the establishment’s version of the ‘shoah’ in her history class for weeks along with persistent rumors that Obamacare included provisions for microchipping all Americans, she was very upset at all the frightening and traumatizing details. But then she had an encounter which led her to question what she had been taught, and decided to conduct her own investigation.

Upon completion of her research, she decided to submit a report for a school project in an elective class she was taking for extra credit. She titled it ‘Holohoax,’ and got an A on the report! Unfortunately for the regime, the widely accepted version of the ‘holocaust’ which has been passed down for generations and constantly promoted through Hollywood propaganda films is not enough to brainwash the youth, who are increasingly thinking for themselves, outside the box.

Here is Jazzy’s essay:

Holohoax

A lie known worldwide, spreading to clueless people and creating disaster everywhere, has caused so many German lives to be spitefully taken. The “Holocaust”, an alleged story of millions of Jews being tortured in concentration camps, has been proven time and time again to be inaccurate, For the acclaimed number of murdered Jews to be true is impossible, proven so not only by logic, but also the fact that the “survivors” of these events have been known to and even admitted to being paid to lie about it. This in itself should be proof enough of this act of misleading propaganda being false, but there is indeed more evidence.

One reason to believe that the Holocaust is a lie is that the Jews claimed to have been murdered in gas chambers, groups as a time. However, no evidence of such occurrences has been shown or documented. According to scientists who were assigned to study the bodies of the victims of World War 2, “Most of them died from typhus epidemics. Most of the rest of them died from starvation and lack of medical supply care resulting from allied bombing raids against food and medical supply lines. (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=holohoax) The Jews show pictures of hair and clothing of women and children, claiming that they were used for soap and rugs after their owners being stripped of them and brutally killed. However, the truth lies in the fact that “The Germans were against typhus, which was the real reason for shaving heads, fumigating buildings, and cremating corpses.” (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=holohoax) Also, heads were shaved and people were gathered top be treated not with lethal gases in order to commit genocide, but with repellant, to stop the epidemic of head lice spreading throughout the camps.

Another thing that contradicts the lies of faulty “survivors” is that the number of Jews said to be killed in the camps was inaccurately stated. Six million Jews were supposedly killed in the Holocaust, when not even such an amount existed in Europe entirely, let alone Germany. “In 1939, there were nearly 15,700,000 Jews in the world. After the Second World War that number had risen to over 18,000,000 Jews. What this means is that of the 15,000,000 original Jews on the planet, 6,000,000 were gassed, leaving only some 9,000,000-plus. Then, the world Jewish population rebounded and doubled to over 18,000,000 in less than nine years – an astronomical feat, which astounded biologists and baby doctors everywhere!” (http://exposing-the-holocaust-hoax-archive.blogspot.com/2009/09/fun-facts-holohoax-for-dummies.html) Not only were the Jews not murdered, but were give a choice. “For that we must go back to one Ilya Ehrenburg,* chief Soviet propagandist during the Second World War and later on to die in Israel, who coined the mythic number on Dec. 22, 1944 – BEFORE tens of thousands of Jewish internees, given the choice of staying to be “liberated” by the Communists or going with their German captors, did not hesitate to choose the latter option!” (http://exposing-the-holocaust-hoax-archive.blogspot.com/2009/09/fun-facts-holohoax-for-dummies.html) Thus proving that the Jewish population was not forced to concentration camps to be scalped and gassed.

Not only do we have visible proof of the holocaust being a lie, but also some very trustworthy witness: The American Red Cross. The Red Cross was asked to do an investigation and search of the camps and corpses, and make accurate reports on their findings. “Says the Report: ‘In the chaotic condition of Germany after the invasion during the final months of the war, the camps received no food supplies at all and starvation claimed an increasing number of victims. Itself alarmed by this situation, the German Government at last informed the ICRC on February 1st, 1945 … In March 1945, discussions between the President of the ICRC and General of the S.S. Kaltenbrunner gave even more decisive results. Relief could henceforth be distributed by the ICRC, and one delegate was authorized to stay in each camp …’ (Vol. III, p. 83).” (http://www.ihr.org/books/harwood/dsmrd01.html) In reading this, one may conclude that the Germans did not intentionally kill the Jews, but strove to maintain lives. Many of the allegations against the Germans made by Jews involved gas chambers, which they claimed to be stripped, shaved, and gathered into for a mass killing. However, in order for a gas chamber to exist on a premise, there must be airtight doors and high chimneys, neither of which was found at the former “death camps.” Also, there is no proof of the gassed Jews except for allegations made by hired phony witnesses. According to the Red Cross, “Though six million Jews supposedly died in the gas chambers, not one body has ever been autopsied and found to have died of gas poisoning. We have been shown piles of bodies from World War II, but most of these persons died of typhus or starvation or Allied bombings and a great many of those were murdered Germans – the equivalent of ten football fields should be packed full of gassed bodies to present as evidence, yet not one body has ever been discovered.” (http://www.biblebelievers.org.au/holohoax.htm) If this is not proof enough, what else is needed? What excuse can be made in retort?

This is not to say that the Holocaust did not take place. It is only to prove that it did not happen as it was told according to the Jews. Not only in the camps, but all over the world, people died; suffered from starvation, typhus and bombing raids in World War 2. Lastly, without being given the evidence that it did happen as it is told, we are shown clues that the effects on Europe of World War 2 was much different; not a story that would benefit the Jews, giving them compensation each month for some thing that was simply a hyperbole.

I mean, I kinda expected that to happen with this anyway, I just didn’t think it would happen

I mean, I kinda expected that to happen with this anyway, I just didn’t think it would happen so quickly. So instead I’m providing a bonus adventure

WHAT!! bonus adventure!! That’s a thing?? Well it is now. Today I went to a classes offered by the American Red Cross that was an introduction of disaster services. And it was pretty cool, I’m rather excited about my future with the Red Cross.

One cool thing I learned about the Red Cross today was that the Red Cross is entire neutral, they are not to discuss religion, race, politics, or basically anything so as not to discriminate. The goal is to help people and that goal cannot be reached if there’s a lot of petty arguing in the way. Also, the Red Cross works with a lot of different organizations for disaster relief, such as local governments, faith organizations, FEMA, local EMS and Fire and various others.

What I’m most excited about is the variety of opportunities available for helping with disaster relief. As far as “boots on the ground” work, I can sign up for a 1 week shift where I’m on call every night. While I would love to do this, its not very practical most of the time. What’s probably going to happen is I’m going to finally put my organizational skills to real use and be more involved with Staff Services (basically HR) and other logistics. I’m meeting with the Volunteer Services Coordinator in the coming week so we’ll work something out. Oh! And I can have a dual affiliation with the Nashville chapter and the Northwest one, so I can work at school and when I’m home.

Mostly I’m just happy because the Red Cross is an organization that is throughout the country and the world and so if I keep up with it, it can potentially offer me everything I want. Go disaster relief!!

The fire at the five-unit apartment building early Wednesday morning left two residents with minor injuries and displaced 26 people, according to fire and city officials.

The American Red Cross was providing temporary housing for the residents, but local Salvation Army representatives said the residents don’t have a change of clothes or various other personal items.

The Salvation Army will be collecting clothing and gift cards for the displaced residents. The families include three sets of parents, two grandparents, infant twin girls, four boys ranging from 5 to 11 years old and a 13-year-old girl.

The organization was also planning a fundraiser for the displaced residents.

Marlene Snyder and her mother-in-law, Mona, stood on their shady back deck, crying. Marlene gazed helplessly into the shell of her home, trying to identify anything in the charred black mess that had been her living room.

“That was a table, here was the kitchen,” says Marlene to several Red Cross disaster relief workers who responded to the Green Valley Wildfire disaster within hours after the blaze started on Wednesday, May 15.

At first Marlene and her family weren’t worried about the house. They treated fire spots with sand and water from a hose. Then they headed with the hose down to a barn, thinking that they could save the barn and their horses when the water stopped. That was their first clue that their home was in danger. By the time they returned to the house, fire had gotten into the roof and there was no time to save anything before they fled. They left with their lives and one photo album.

“I thought I’d come back and there would be things I would recognize, things I could save,” says Marlene. ”I didn’t know I would come back to see something like this.”

Red Cross disaster relief worker Lori Dehn talks with a wildfire evacuee at the emergency shelter in Menagha, MN, May 16, 2013.

The fast moving wildfire crossed several county lines in north-central Minnesota. Hundreds were forced to evacuate, including residents from a nursing home in Menagha, the town that suffered most of the fire damage. More than 60 people stayed in a Red Cross shelter, waiting for news about their homes. No one, thankfully, was injured. Twelve homes were destroyed.

Along with 400 other people, the Snyder family attended a community meeting where they learned about efforts to contain the fire as well as disaster relief services for affected families. Many, including Marlene, expressed their thanks to the firefighters, emergency responders, and Red Cross workers for their help during the Green Valley Wildfire disaster.

To date, the Red Cross has served more than 1,000 meals and snacks, handed out more than 300 disaster relief items, including comfort and clean-up kits, and mobilized more than 40 disaster relief workers, 90 percent of whom are volunteers.

“We’re so grateful for what you’ve done,” says Marlene. “You’re doing a great job.”

I spent most of Wednesday evening glued to the television… I know, many of you are thinking that’s not unusual for me. But it was. North Texas, specifically the DFW area, was preparing for our first visit from Mother Nature’s severe spring storms.

Spring storms in Texas are brutal. And last year, certain areas saw complete devastation and are still recovering.

We were lucky in my neck of the woods Wednesday night… nothing but strong winds and heavy rain. I’m not even sure we saw any hail.

But the southern counties of DFW weren’t so lucky. A neighborhood in Granbury, Texas was leveled. Almost 97 of the 110 homes in the subdivision were damaged, some destroyed completely. Cleburne, Texas experienced a tornado that was reportedly one-mile wide. Both storms have since been classified as an EF4 and EF3 respectively, with Granbury incurring winds of up to 200 MPH. Overall, North Texas saw sixteen tornadoes Wednesday night and sustained extensive damage with hundreds injured.

Once again, severe spring storms devastate North Texas. And my heart is with all those affected.

And sadly, hundreds, if not thousands of people are displaced and in need of something right now.

I want to do my part to help. So this weekend, starting today (Friday, May 17th) through Monday (May 20th), I’ve decided to donate all of the Football Sweetheart proceeds to the American Red Cross.

All proceeds from every Football Sweetheart e-book purchased, whether via Amazon or Barnes & Noble, will go to the American Red Cross to help with the recovery process in all the areas affected by the severe spring storms.

Please keep all those affected in your thoughts and let’s hope Mother Nature is kind to us the rest of this storm season.

To support summer holiday donations, all donors who come to donate blood at a Red Cross blood drive between May 23 and May 31 will be entered into prize giveaways with a chance to win one of five $1,000 American Express gift cards. Donate blood at the Red Cross Chapter House at 318 Washington St. on May 24 or May 31; Dept. of Environmental Protection at 200 Fair Oaks Ln. on May 30 or May 31; Capital Complex East at 1024 Capital Center Dr. on May 31.
Start fasting, where stretchy pants to work and get your lunch/dinner/dessert plans in order; tomorrow is…

DINE FOR DISASTER!!!

Please make sure that you are inviting co-workers to go to lunch, meeting friends for dinner and taking the family to get dessert. We have some great local restaurants participating, donating a percentage of their sales to benefit local American Red Cross disaster relief and preparedness programs and services.

Why not dine out for a good cause?! Every eight minutes, the American Red Cross provides basic needs such as food, shelter, clothing and emotional support to disaster victims.

Specifically, monies raised by Dine for Disaster become:

the blankets wrapped around a family after a house fire,

emotional support to those who are experiencing grief due to their loss

replacement of much needed prescriptions or eye glasses lost

access to safe and comfortable lodging

ability to acquire hot meals

the ability to plan and respond to future disasters

ALL assistance is FREE and made possible by the generous contributions from our community supporters…YOU!
