With a host of metal talent already confirmed for next year’s BLOODSTOCK OPEN AIR, organisers have revealed the first set of headliners for the 10th anniversary event.

The awesome pairing comes in the form of Finnish metal monsters CHILDREN OF BODOM and LA Cyber-Metallers FEAR FACTORY.

Joining the two headliners on the bill are cult Finns AMORPHIS. These increasingly progressive melo-death doomsters have received widespread critical acclaim for their latest album “Skyforger”.

The BLOODSTOCK OPEN AIR METAL FESTIVAL 2010 will take place at Catton Hall, Derbyshire from 13th – 15th August.

The UK’s premier indie metal festival, Bloodstock Open Air, is already looking to be pretty sick next year, even though the fond memories of this summers event are still fresh. To add to the already certifiably hardcore line up including Cannibal Corpse, Suffocation and Behemoth, the nostalgia tinged metal of Fear Factory and Children of Bodom (who I saw right back at Bloodstock indoor in 2004, when I was like 15) has also been added to the pretty varied line up. Also added are Amorphis, the Finnish melodic metal band who’s debut album surprised me in that it was actually pretty good. Anyway, Bloodstock lineup so far is:

Well, if we’re going to play goth music… (No comment on hentai Jesus. Mainly because I’d already written most of this post before you posted it)

How about Black Winter Day by the finnish band Amorphis? The actual music itself isn’t bad(and it carries on with our winter theme). But the singing in it is all in one of these deep raspy almost unintelligible voices some metal types love. And the lyrics?

Rawr! I am angsty! Angst, angst, angst. How do I feel? ANGST!

Or something like that.[1] Not that a little angst occasionally is necessarily a bad thing. And I like the actual music itself, so I’ll let it slide…

Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival has been a success for its first two years.  Now it’s time to speculate and dream about its third installation.  I have compiled my dream lineup for Mayhem Fest 2010.  Although I doubt some of the bands will make it onto the tour, I feel like a few are definites while others are strong possibilities.  My dream lineup is as follows, in order of performances:

I truly believe this lineup could bring in massive audiences of all ages to each stop on the entire tour.  Profits for the tour would be of unbearably large amounts for everyone involved in producing the festival.  Younger metalheads would thoroughly enjoy Darkest Hour, August Burns Red, Dirge Within, and Coheed & Cambria.  The middle-aged fans and perhaps families would have fun with Alice In Chains, Iron Maiden, and Heaven & Hell.  Fans ranging from teenagers to fans probably in their mid-30’s or so would love Shadows Fall, Lamb of God, DevilDriver, Rob Zombie, and Overkill.  Lastly, Amorphis is a phenomenal metal band hailing from Finland and could really use more exposure on this side of the world.  They have the potential to do better than very small club venues and I think this tour could help them out in that aspect. 

Of course, ages really do not have much to do with it.  There are metal fans of all ages who would like each and every one of those bands.  The age comparison to this dream lineup was only made to put the universal enjoyment potential of this dream tour into perspective.

While this lineup is but a dream, it would reach out to a great portion of metalheads across the United States.

Daca in 2008 la Romexpo nu am fost sa ii vad,  de data asta am zis ca nu am voie sa ii mai ratez. Este vorba despre Amorphis. Au revenit in Romania pe 29 octombrie anul acesta, alaturi de Before The Dawn si Amoral, trupe care ii insotesc in   Forging Europe Tour.

Amorphis  mi-au placut tare mult, celelalte doua trupe mi s-au parut ok, performing with enthusiasm. O parte din track listul Amorphis ar fi:  Silver Bride, Sampo, House Of Sleep, The Smoke, My Kantele, Black Winter Day. Cat despre conditiile din cort nu pot sa zic decat de bine, nu am inghetat pe acolo si mi-a placut ca era lumea civilizata(din ce am observat eu) nu au fost imbranceli sau alte reactii de genu inspre intrare sau iesire sau..la baie, lumea isi astepta frumos randul fara comentarii.

I searched online for Myanmar metal stuff last night and found a forum. With great expectations, I clicked on the link.

What I found?

They were talking about… nu-metal??? Yes, nu-metal. Frigging hell mallcore stuff like Slipknot and Marilyn Manson. There were even people who mentioned Linkin Park and Flyleaf.

Seriously! There was nothing on it but mallcore. -.-

Next one was a blog. He was talking about Slipknot and how much he likes them and on another blog was an article on Myanmar metal scene and the author was talking about Bullet For My Valentine, Avenged Sevenfold and Trivium. Frigging Metalcore.

Why can’t they just get out of this whole mallcore thing??? Why won’t they step deeper into the depths? WHY?????

There were even some people who said,”Slipknot is Death Metal”. Ya, go die. It pisses me off when I hear people saying crap like that.

Mallcore, Nu-metal, Metalcore, BFMV, A7X, Marilyn Manson, BMTH, blah blah blah and it goes on and on and on in a never finishing mallcore whirlpool. This is what’s happening  in Myanmar!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Metal albums aren’t that rare anymore. You can pretty much buy them here. (Last week I got Black Sabbath:The Dio Years and Megadeth’s Endgame.) Or you can download them via Mediafire or 4shared (which I usually do).

Still people are still drowning in the mallcore whirlpool… labeling themselves “metalheads” with Slipknot songs in their mp3 players.

It’s time to ditch out mallcore people! Ditch it out and explore into the depths of Metal!

 Jeg er veldig glad i coverversjoner som gjøres med en egen vri (må for all del ikke sammenlignes med X-Factor og annen crap). Det jeg elsker med en god cover, er at låten gjøres som om den var bandet/artisten sin egen låt. Høres det bra ut, så høres det bra ut, selv om musikkbildet er forandret. Noen gode eksempler:

Etter å ha hørt orginalen, blekner gjerne kopien noe. Selv om Cash gjorde en utrolig cover av denne låten, så er det fremdeles (bare) en cover i mine ører. Allikevel liker jeg den svært godt.

Den her låta er dedikert (ja vet det heter “dedisert”, men det høres så teit ut) til VxPretty. Det eneste som ikke stemme er delen om “rules”. Der finnes det en god del. Men jaja…. du er  nå ganske så prettyful

Gjerne får en den evige diskusjonen om orginalen eller coveren er den beste versjonen. Døh! En hovedregel er at orginalen er best, selv om det noen ganger kan være åpent. Noe jeg definitivt har lært etter en diskusjon med E-Dogg, så er det at musikk er noe som engasjerer. Smaken er som baken. Men smaken kan heves akkurat som bakdeigen,  samtidig kan også deigen krympe hvis en tramper for hardt foran ovnen. Noen ganger er det greit å være enig om at en er uenig. Vennskapet lenge leve! Selv om det var like før jeg fyrte til deg Det er godt å ha gode venner!

Det er herlig å legge merke til at et band uten skrupler stjeler riff og melodier fra andre. Et av de beste eksemplene jeg vet om er The Levellers Vs. Amorphis. De sistnevnte finnene vinner denne låta så det hyler, selv om de har lånt, stjelt og gjort vokalpartiene om med egen melodi. Moralen er at god musikk kan bli bedre…

Finnish metal legends Amorphis will release their first-ever live DVD in the spring of 2010, in time for the band’s 20th anniversary. The filming will take place on Friday, November 20, at Club Teatria in Oulu/Finland, where Amorphis will be supported by Stratovarius and Before The Dawn. In addition to the live material, the anniversary DVD will include plenty of bonus material documenting the band’s impressive career.

Amorphis have just returned from a five-week European tour which included sold-out venues in London and Paris as well as in Sofia/Bulgaria and various German towns. Likewise, the current Finnish tour started with sold-out shows in Jyväskylä and Joensuu.

Esa Holopainen comments: “After our successful European tour, it feels good to return to the Finnish stages. And it’s great to notice that our ‘home folks’ have not forgotten us.”

Sincer vorbind nu am fost deloc incantat de perspectiva unui nou concert la cortul din Arenele Romane. Concertul In Flames din primavara s-a dovedit in final a fi o dezamagire. Acel concert a fost afectat de o multime de probleme: fum, aglomeratie si sunet slab. Din fericire organizarea celor de la Artmania a fost la inaltime din toate punctele de vedere.

Pe la 20:15 au urcat pe scena cei de la Amoral. Din pacate, sau din fericire, vocea s-a auzit foarte incet la primele doua piese. In ciuda faptului ca vocalistul trupei este un fost castigator al concursului Idol prestatia sa a cam lasat de dorit. El a fost clar depasit de evenimente cand a fost nevoit sa interpreteze piese de pe primele albume ale trupei, death metalul fiind mult prea mult pentru el. S-a descurcat mai bine cu piesele de pe ultimul album (singurul inregistrat cu el) dar chiar si asa vocea a fost punctul slab al trupei. Totusi ne-a oferit un moment amuzant inainte de ultima piesa: “The last song is about the most important two things in my life: Sex and Satan”. Ce dragut…

Au umat Before The Dawn un grup bunicel, dar nu extraordinar.I-am ascultat mai mult printre picatele, am mai socializat, am iesit un pic la aer. O parte a publicului a fost foarte entuziasmata asa ca probabil ar trebui sa mai investighez problema. Din ce am auzit, astia nu au treaba cu Satana.

Dupa o pauza de aproximativ jumatate de ora a venit in sfarsit si randul celor de la Amorphis. Finlandezii s-au axat dupa cum era de asteptat pe ultimele trei albume, si mai ales pe Skyforger. Dar nu au lipsit nici piese ca: Against windows, Cast Away,  My Kantele, Alone sau Black Winter Day. Prestatia trupei a fost la inaltime chiar daca interactiunea cu publicul a fost un pic limitata. Daca la primele doua trupe au fost unele probleme cu sunetul, la Amorphis totul a fost la inaltime. La inaltime a fost si publicul care a cantat alaturi de trupa si a avut un comportament civilizat pe durata intregului eveniment.

Daca Amorphis au terminat concertul pe la miezul noptii, pentru mine seara s-a terminat ceva mai tarziu. Singurul taxi liber din zona Parcului Carol era condus de un individ ce parea iesit dintr-un film de groaza. Plete de rocker, trening de rapper, atitudine de manelist, toate mixate cu o inteligenta de individ lobotomizat. Sincer aveam senzatia ca dintr-un moment in altul o sa scoata securea la mine si o sa ma trimita direct la stirile de la ora 5. Din fericire pentru mine, pentru voi, si pentru blogosfera metalica am scapat.

Formatia finlandeza Amorphis a concertat la Arenele Romane din  Bucuresti pe 29 octombrie. Concertul a fost organizat de Artmania si a facut parte din turneul “Forging Europe Tour”, care promoveaza cel mai recent album al trupei – “Skyforger” – lansat in luna mai a acestui an.

Nu mai ţin minte dacă am mai spus că nu sunt un adept al concertelor. Prefer să stau comod în casă şi să îmi ascult muzica. Totuşi, sunt unele nume pe care nu le-aş rata chiar dacă ar veni, să zicem, de două ori pe an. După ce am văzut anul trecut la Maiden, m-ar durea sufletul să stau în casă ştiind că Dickinson încinge atmosfera pe cine ştie ce stadion. Şi nu aş rata nici un AC-DC (deşi suntem prea desculţi ca să ne facă o vizită), poate băieţii de la Manowar, Lake of Tears, Helloween, Crematory… Pe de altă parte, preferinţele mele muzicale sunt constituite din formaţii care au un trecut în spate, având în componenţă oameni care trebuie să se gândească mai mult la pensie decât la încins atmosfere.

Una dintre excepţii este, totuşi, Amorphis. O trupă cu ceva istorie în spate, dar cu un viitor promiţător pentru următorii, cel puţin, zece ani. Nu mi-a părut rău că i-am văzut, deşi nu pot spune că a fost un show ieşit din comun (vezi Iron Maiden) sau o atmosferă incendiară (vezi Manowar). Chiar am fost uimit, la început. Amorphis este un nume mare, cu o valoare incontestabilă, şi totuşi… nu cred să fi fost mai mult de 500 de oameni. De ce? La întrebarea asta nu prea pot răspunde. Poate pentru că piaţa rock în România nu este bine dezvoltată, sau pentru că e prea dezvoltată piaţa lui Guţă şi a celorlalţi cretini m(an)elomani.

Trupele care au cântat în deschidere nu m-au impresionat deloc. Dar mi-ar fi plăcut să am vreun maimuţoi manelist legat fedeleş, pe care să îl fi pus cât mai aproape de vreo boxă. Black metal-ul, death-ul, brutal-ul nu mă atrag, dar pariez că le-aş fi gustat privind convulsiile unui personaj ca cel mai sus amintit. Nu am avut norocul ăsta, din păcate, deşi pe de altă parte a fost mai bine. Pentru că, deşi puţini, cei care au venit să vadă Amorphis m-au impresionat în mod pozitiv. Poate aş exagera spunând că a fost cel mai civilizat concert la care am fost. Dar cu siguranţă a fost unul din cele mai civilizate. Nu a înjurat nimeni pe nimeni, nu au existat berbeci care să se arunce unul în altul cu capul înainte, berea, culmea!, a fost la doză, nicidecum în pahare de plastic pe jumătate umplute cu apă.

Chiar dacă până să cânte cei de la Amorphis am ascultat cântece pe care, când vreau să îmi pedepsesc vreun vecin, le dau la maxim şi plec în oraş ca să nu mă simt şi eu pedepsit, aşteptarea a meritat. Nu ştiu dacă ar putea cineva să arate vreun minus în prestaţia cântăreţilor. Toţi şi-au făcut treaba cu profesionalism şi au cântat cum ştiau ei mai bine. Şi nu a fost rău, chiar dacă m-am declarat adeptul altor genuri. Mi-a părut rău doar că Amorphis nu au cântat piese cu care, probabil, ar fi încins şi mai mult audienţa. E mult spus mi-a părut rău. Nu au cântat cele mai bune piese, dar asta cu siguranţă poate fi considerată o observaţie subiectivă. Obiectiv? Au meritat banii. Pentru că am văzut că se poate să fim civilizaţi şi să ne bucurăm de muzică bună. Cu riscul de a fi priviţi, uneori, ca nişte sectanţi. Chiar la asta mă gândeam aseară… penticostalii şi alţi bătuţi în cap se strâng mai mulţi când vreun predicator apucat de streche se apucă să propovăduiască. E încurajator, totuşi, că Amorphis a “propovăduit” muzica bună unui public variat, tineri şi oameni trecuţi de a doua tinereţe, bărbaţi şi femei. Da, femei… multe… multe pentru aşteptările mele. Şi, menţionând acest lucru dragului şi inexprimabilului meu prieten, discutând, am ajuns la o concluzie încântătoare: rockul e făcut din femei.
