Ich war in den letzten Tagen nicht ganz untätig und habe mich tatsächlich ernsthaft mit meiner Zukunft auseinandergesetzt. Ich habe den Weg zur Sozialarbeiterin meiner Schule eingeschlagen, um mich beraten zu lassen und letzte Woche gab es die erste gute Nachricht: Der praktische Teil der Fachhochschulreife könnte durch Elternzeit ersetzt werden. Aha?! Und weiter?

“Prima!”, dachte ich und wollte natürlich sofort Nägel mit Köpfen machen und musste mich bis heute gedulden. Zuerst muss die Dame schließlich mit der Bezirksleiterin sprechen, die dann nun eine halbe Klorolle an Unterlagen fordert, um mir den praktischen Teil anzuerkennen.

“Kein Ding!”, war mein erster Gedanke und dann kam es: Meldebescheinigung, eidesstattliche Erklärung, Bescheinigung der Schule, Urkunde Soundso, BlaBlubb. Der wunderschöne Wald der Bürokratie ohne Wanderschuhe – Klasse! Da kommt ja noch einiges auf mich zu!

Also gleich heute Mittag zum Bürgeramt dackeln, sonst wird das nichts mehr! Ich maschiere also los, hole mir eine Meldebescheinigung ab, – in etwas anderer Form als erwartet, da mein Liebster eben auf Papier eben nicht mein Liebster ist, sondern ein MITBEWOHNER.

“Na, egal. Wird schon nicht so wild sein, dass er bei meinem Haushalt nicht aufgeführt wird!”, hoffte ich.

Die Dame vom Amt meinte daraufhin nur trocken: “Ihr LebensABSCHNITTSgefährte kann gegebenenfalls selbst eine Meldebescheinigung beantragen, die können Sie ja nachreichen, wenn das überhaupt erforderlich sein sollte.”

NEIN! Garantiert nicht. Eine Meldebescheinigung kostet 6€. Sechs verdammte Euro für ein Stück Papier mit etwa 20 Buchstaben drauf. Harter Scheiß!

“Nee, muss auch ohne gehen”, antwortete ich der netten Sachbearbeiterin und verzog mich schnellstmöglich von der Bildfläche. Zu Hause wartete schließlich noch die Frage nach der eidesstattlichen Erklärung.

Ich schmiss also den Rechner an, durchforstete die Suchmaschine und stellte fest, dass wohl so niemand Recht wissen wollte, was eine eidesstattliche Erklärung mit der Fachhochschulreife zu tun haben könnte. Möglicherweise ist dies eine Art Sonderprüfung, so eine Art Reifeprüfung …vermute ich einfach mal.

Schnell was getippert und getappert und dann – völlig unerwartet, schrillt das Telefon in der Stille.

Etwas militantisch nahm ich den Anruf entgegen und wurde von einer hellen, freundlichen Stimme (Kennt ihr das, wenn ihr Menschen lächeln hören könnt?) begrüßt.

Ohha, ich war doch erst letzte Woche beim Bewerbungstag. Was kann das bedeuten? – Kleine Anmerkung am Rande: Ich war etwas irritiert nach dem Bewerbungsgespräch, bei dem man mich fragte, ob ich Mitglied bei Scientology wäre.

“Ich habe Ihnen etwas mitzuteilen.”

“Das da wäre?”

“Ich würde Ihnen gerne die Ausbildungsstelle anbieten.”

Einen Moment herrschte Stille.

“Ah, das klingt doch gut.”

“Ja, haben Sie denn Interesse?”

“Ja, klar!”

Ich muss wohl etwas sehr Banane geklungen haben, denn die Dame von der Agentur fragte: “Sie klingen so geplättet. Freuen Sie sich denn nicht?”

Ein verschüchtertes Kichern meinerseits, dann etwas Stille.

“Klar freut mich das. Das habe ich nur nicht erwartet, da ja die Ergebnisse erst vor Weihnachten feststehen sollten!”

Innerlich drehte ich mir in diesem Moment selbst den Hals um, in der Hoffnung mein dummes Gefasel damit zu stoppen. Wir haben VOR Weihnachten. Es ist der 16. November. Herr Gott, wie blamabel!

“Ich habe Sie aber jetzt schon ausgewählt, weil Sie uns im Bewerbungsgespräch von sich  voll überzeugen konnten.“

Vielen Dank für die Blumen! Was ein Balsam für die Seele!

“Das freut mich. Danke!”

Ja, klar. Bedank dich noch dafür, du Depp. Das war deine Überzeugungsarbeit, nicht ihre.

“Wir senden Ihnen dann in zwei-drei Wochen die Unterlagen zu, die Sie dann bearbeitet an uns zurücksenden. Das Ganze geht dann an den Betriebsrat, der dann die Formalitäten nur noch bestätigen muss, um dann den Ausbildungsvertrag mit Ihnen zu unterschreiben!”

If you are using Out Of Band (OOB) Management in Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) 2007 SP1 (or greater) to manage your Intel vPro clients, you may have noticed that computer objects are created in your Active Directory domain during provisioning of the Intel vPro firmware. These computer objects are created by the amtproxymgr component of an OOB Service Point, and allow Intel vPro to communicate directory with Active Directory, regardless of the operating system state.

Since these vPro computer objects appear very similar to standard computer objects that are created when joining a Windows OS to an AD domain, it may be hard to distinguish which ones are vPro accounts, and which ones aren’t. This situation can be worsened if you somehow have Windows computer accounts mixed into the same OU that contains your AMT objects.

As you’ll see below, it’s very easy to locate these computers using some simple PowerShell code:

These two lines of code simply create a System.DirectoryServices.DirectorySearcher instance, with some LDAP search criteria to identify the accounts, and then assigns the results of this search to a PowerShell variable called $vproaccounts. The default search root is the top-level of your Active Directory domain, and the default search scope is already set to SubTree, so you don’t have to specifically configure these settings on the DirectorySearcher. Once you’re at this point, you can simply enumerate the accounts, or pipe the results into a PowerShell ForEach loop, and perform some operation against them (for example, givem them a Description attribute value).

Because this code sample uses the “adsisearcher” type accelerator (aka. type shortcut), it will only work with PowerShell v2.0 (included as part of the Windows Management Framework), unless you modify PowerShell v1.0 to include it. There’s almost no reason not to be using PowerShell 2.0, now that it has been officially released, however.

I recommend using the free Quest PowerGUI tool to develop and debug PowerShell scripts.

If health reform is to be meaningful then all must contribute.  Currently, the bottom 75% of those filing tax returns pay only about 3% of all federal income tax.  That does not figure in the tens of millions who do not file returns under current tax law.  The Democratic bill in the House aims to transfer almost $500 billion dollars of personal wealth over the next 10 years to subsidize health insurance for some 35 million + Americans, and in the end, despite protests to the contrary, quite possibly another 12-20 million illegal aliens.  The proposed 5.4% “surtax” will be on top of the 39.6% rate increase on marginal income to become effective in 2011.  This will bring the top marginal rates to 45% at the federal level, before taking into account state income taxes, local income taxes, sales taxes, property taxes, capital gains taxes and other incidental taxes and fees.  The House bill, at nearly 2,000 pages, is a bureaucrats wish list come true.  It involves, fees, committees, panels, reviews, and more red tape than we have seen in many years.

Health reform does not require this amount of federal taxation.  Congress has been for too long simply unwilling to regulate health insurers in a meaningful way.  Some believe this is because Congress is heavily “in bed” with the insurance industry via lobbying as well as political contributions.  All in all, this is a bad bill.  The House likely cannot do better, given their ideological viewpoint.  The most simple reforms seem unable to be addressed in a straightforward manner. Such as removal of all pre-existing condition exclusions.  Maybe Congress could try that one in a one page bill.  And then vote on that one up or down.  Is that too hard? . . . obi jo

The typical family would be spared higher taxes from the House Democratic plan to overhaul health care, and their low-income neighbors could come out ahead. Their wealthy counterparts, however, face big tax increases that could eventually hit future generations of taxpayers who are less wealthy. The bill is funded largely from a 5.4 % tax on individuals making more than $500,000 a year and couples making more than $1 million, starting in 2011. The tax increase would hit only 0.3 % of tax filers, raising $460.5 billion over the next 10 years, according to congressional estimates. But unlike other income tax rates, the new tax would not be indexed for inflation. As incomes rise over time because of inflation, more families — and more small business owners — would be hit by the tax.

These are very big numbers and very high effective tax rates. The new health care tax would come on top of other tax increases for the wealthy proposed by Obama. The top marginal income tax rate now is 35%, on income above $372,950. Obama wants to boost the top rate to 39.6% in 2011 by allowing some of the tax cuts enacted under former President George W. Bush to expire. House Democrats said they are proud that they found a way to finance the health care package largely from a tax on the wealthy. There is, however, little appetite for a millionaire’s tax in the Senate, and some tax experts think it is a mistake to tap only rich people to pay for services used by all. “If health care is a benefit that is worth having, then it’s worth paying for,” said William Gale, who was an adviser to President George H. W. Bush’s Council of Economic Advisers and is now co-director of the Tax Policy Center. “This gives the impression that it’s only worth having if someone else pays for it.”

Under the bill, individuals are required to obtain health insurance coverage or pay penalties, which are described as taxes in the legislation. The penalty would be equal to the cost of an average insurance plan or a 2.5% tax on incomes above the standard threshold for filing a tax return, whichever is less. There would be waivers for financial hardships. To help afford insurance, families with incomes up to four times the federal poverty level would qualify for subsidies. The poverty level for a family of four is $22,050 this year. Republicans argue that the penalties violate Obama’s tax pledge, and they liken the millionaire’s tax to the Alternative Minimum Tax, which Congress enacted in 1969 to ensure that wealthy Americans cannot use loopholes to avoid paying any income taxes. The AMT was never indexed for inflation, so Congress must enact a fix each year to spare about 25 million middle-income families from being hit with big tax increases.

More and more, the Great Health Care Debate of 2009 is a numbers game. And the longer the debate goes on, the squishier the numbers seem to get. For months, many leading Democrats, including President Obama, have pushed for the creation of a government-run insurance plan to compete with private insurers. A main argument was that a public plan would save people money. It would not be under pressure to earn profits, pay high private-sector salaries or deny needed care. But after House Democratic leaders unveiled their health care bill on Thursday, the Congressional Budget Office said the public plan would cost more than private plans and only six million people would sign up. One reason the public plan would not save customers money is that it would have to negotiate payment rates with doctors and hospitals just like private plans.

Kann es sein, dass noch Zeichen und Wunder geschehen? Kann es wirklich sein? Man mag es im ersten Moment gar nicht glauben, jedoch entspricht es augenscheinlich der Wahrheit. Der Publizist  Henryk M. Broder kandidiert für das Amt des Präsidenten des Zentralrates der Juden. Man kann es glauben oder auch nicht, es ist so. Zumindest wenn man den Worten des Tagesspiegels glauben schenkt. In diesem Fall tun wir das natürlich ausnahmsweise einmal sehr gerne. Nun, die Zeitung berichtet dass Hr. Broder nun endlich das tut was er tun muss und nicht mehr was er tun will, so wie er es sein Leben lang getan hat

Ich habe nach reiflicher Überlegung beschlossen, mich um das Amt des Präsidenten des Zentralrates der Juden in Deutschland zu bewerben. Das Procedere ist nicht ganz einfach, man muss der Repräsentantenversammlung einer jüdischen Gemeinde angehören und von dieser nominiert werden. Nachdem mir aber zwei kleine Gemeinden ihre Unterstützung zugesagt haben, sind das keine unüberwindlichen Hindernisse. In zwei Jahren werde ich 65, ich habe immer das getan, was ich tun wollte. Jetzt ist die Zeit gekommen, das zu tun, was ich tun sollte.

Die offizielle Vertretung der Juden in Deutschland befindet sich in einem erbärmlichen Zustand. Die Präsidentin – intern „Tante Charly“ genannt – scheint von dem Job überfordert. Wer die Pressemitteilungen liest, die von ihrem Büro herausgegeben werden, erfährt, dass ein Besuch bei der Frau des Bundespräsidenten zu den wichtigsten Erfahrungen ihres Lebens gehört. Ihre Stellvertreter belauern sich gegenseitig und warten darauf, wer als Erster aus der Deckung geht.

Was der Zentralrat tut oder unterlässt, das entscheidet dessen Generalsekretär, der die schwindende Bedeutung der Organisation durch taktische Allianzen und sinnfreien Aktionismus auszugleichen versucht. Zuletzt hat er den ehemaligen Berliner Finanzsenator, Thilo Sarrazin, wegen dessen kritischen Äußerungen über integrationsunwillige Migranten in eine Reihe mit Hitler und Goebbels gestellt und sich bald darauf für diese Entgleisung auf eine Weise entschuldigt, die vor allem eines demonstrierte: dass er keine Ahnung hat, wovon er redet.

Der Zentralrat vertritt eine kleine Minderheit, etwa 100 000 Juden, von denen die meisten nach 1989 aus der ehemaligen Sowjetunion in die Bundesrepublik gekommen sind, sein Wort hat aber Gewicht. Besser gesagt: Es hatte Gewicht. Inzwischen werden dessen Stellungnahmen kaum noch wahrgenommen, weil er sich inflationär zu allem und jedem äußert. Den Rücktritt eines Ministerpräsidenten zu fordern, weil dieser sich in der Wortwahl vergriffen und von einer „Pogromstimmung gegen Manager“ gesprochen hat, ist nicht nur unangemessen sondern auch dumm. Man soll keine Forderungen erheben, zu deren Durchsetzung man nicht in der Lage ist. Es sei denn, man will sich vorsätzlich blamieren.

Der Zentralrat versteht sich als eine Art Frühwarnsystem gegen politischen Extremismus und andere aufziehende Gefahren. Das war die Rolle, die den kapitolinischen Gänsen im alten Rom zukam. Dennoch haben sie den Untergang Roms nicht verhindern können.
Es kann nicht die Aufgabe des Zentralrates sein, sich als das gute Gewissen Deutschlands aufzuführen. Es bringt auch nichts, „Wehret den Anfängen!“ zu schreien, wenn eine Handvoll Neonazis durch Möllenhagen in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern marschiert, und das Verbot der NPD zu fordern, was die Partei, die im Begriff ist, sich selbst zu zerlegen, nur in ihrer Scheinbedeutung bestätigt. Ebenso ist es nicht die Aufgabe des Zentralrates, den übrigen 79,9 Millionen Deutschen vorzuschreiben, wie sie mit ihrer Geschichte umgehen sollten. Liebesbeweise, die erzwungen werden, sind keine.

Der Zentralrat tritt als Reue-Entgegennahme-Instanz auf und stellt Unbedenklichkeitserklärungen aus, wobei es weder nach oben noch nach unten eine Schamgrenze gibt. Der Zentralrat hat seine Beziehungen zum Vatikan und zur deutschen Bischofskonferenz im Zuge der „Williamson-Affäre“ zeitweise abgebrochen; wenn ein Theater in der Provinz Fassbinders Stück „Der Müll, die Stadt und der Tod“ aufführen will, eilt der Generalsekretär persönlich hin, um den Theaterleuten zu sagen, was sie machen beziehungsweise nicht machen sollen. Wenn das keine Beschäftigungstherapie ist, dann ist es nur lächerlich.

Als Präsident des Zentralrates werde ich für ein Ende des kleinkarierten Größenwahns sorgen, der sich immer mehr zumutet, als er zu leisten in der Lage ist. Ich werde mich dafür einsetzen, dass Holocaustleugnung als Straftatbestand aufgehoben wird. Das Gesetz war gut gemeint, hat sich aber als kontraproduktiv erwiesen, indem es Idioten dazu verhilft, sich als Märtyrer im Kampf um die historische Wahrheit zu inszenieren. Unser aller Problem ist nicht der letzte Holocaust, dessen Faktizität außer Frage steht, sondern der Völkermord, der vor unseren Augen im Sudan stattfindet. Wir brauchen nicht noch mehr Holocaustmahnmale und Gedenkstätten, sondern eine aktive Politik im Dienste der Menschenrechte ohne politische Rücksichtnahme auf wirtschaftliche Interessen. Wer vom Kampf der Dissidenten in China und der Verfolgung der Baha’i im Iran nichts wissen will, sollte auch am 27. Januar und am 9. November zu Hause bleiben.

Ich werde mich um gute Beziehungen zu den in Deutschland lebenden Moslems bemühen. Nicht zu religiösen Eiferern oder türkischen Nationalisten, die den Paragrafen 301 des türkischen Strafgesetzbuches („Beleidigung des Türkentums“) verteidigen oder verharmlosen und sich um jede Stellungnahme zu der Armenierfrage drücken, sondern zu solchen, die für eine strikte Trennung von Staat und Religion und für eine säkulare Gesellschaft eintreten.

Ich bin überzeugt, dass es keine partikularen jüdischen Interessen gibt. Ob jemand koscher isst oder halal oder doch lieber Kassler, ist Privatsache. Ebenso wann und zu welchem Gott er betet. Religionsfreiheit beinhaltet auch das Recht, areligiös und antireligiös zu sein und sich über den eigenen und seiner Nachbarn Gott lustig machen zu können, ohne deswegen bedroht zu werden. Freiheit, Demokratie, Rechtsstaat sind die Werte, die offensiv verteidigt werden müssen.

Von Juden, Christen, Moslems, Atheisten, Agnostikern, Häretikern, von Ariern und Vegetariern, Frauen und Männern, Heteros und Homos – meine Kippa liegt im Ring.

Sehr geehrte Frau Angelika Merkel,

wie sie selbst mitbekommen haben, läuft etwas nicht richtig in ihrem Land.
Korrupte Beamte stecken sich gegenseitig die Scheine in die Taschen und verstoßen tagtäglich gegen die Gesetze.
Keiner weiß das so gut wie sie, werte Frau Merkel, und doch tun sie nichts Gezieltes dagegen.

Sie haben Großartiges geleistet und standen immer zu ihrem Wort, doch leider scheinen sie den Elan verloren zu haben, denn sie versteifen sich auf Dinge, die das Volk nicht betrifft und verschließen die Augen bei Themen, wo das Volk aufschreit und ihre Hilfe benötigt.

Sie sind eine der wenigen, die den Posten der “Bundeskanzler/in” nicht ausbeutet und wir wissen aus guten Quellen, dass sie sehr bemüht sind allen etwas Recht zu machen, doch leider genügt das in der heutigen Zeit nicht.
Nehmen sie sich die Themen vor, die Deutschland betreffen, die das Volk betrifft, die den einzelnen Bürger betrifft.
Wir brauchen keine 3-Station-U-Bahn unter dem Reichstag, die unnötig unser Steuergeld frisst und UNS nichts bietet.
Wenn sie dem Volk etwas bieten wollen und dieses Sinn ergeben soll, dann sollten sie etwas gegen den Kinderstrich unternehmen, der nahe Zoo ist.
Denn die Tatsache, dass erwachsene Männer sich ein 12-jähriges Kind ins Auto holen und es für Sex ausnutzen, grenzt schon an Wahnsinn, denn die Regierung tut nichts dagegen und es interessiert sie auch nicht, was mit den Kindern auf der Straße passiert.

Was den Kinderstrich angeht, konnten wir schon “einige” Männer beobachten und fotografieren, wie sie sich an eins der Kinder ranmachten und sie mit sich nahmen.
Ich fordere sie im Guten auf, sich den Problemen des Volkes zu stellen und ihre Visionen für ein besseres Leben in Deutschland (welche sie einst hatten) umzusetzen.

Da ich sie respektiere und schätze, hoffe ich, dass sich in den nächsten Amtsjahren etwas verändert.

I think one of the weirder things to come out of the Montreal mayoral campaign is that one of the candidates has taken a stance that is pro-automobile. While Louise O’Sullivan’s chances of winning the mayoral campaign remain slim, the idea of a mayoral candidate who prefers tossing bicycles in favour of cars is an interesting one and makes for a polarizing issue.

While her idea of turning empty lots downtown into multi-tiered garages for parking cars isn’t exactly a controversial issue (it’s been floated around for years), the idea that someone wants to even deter from current mayor Gerald Tremblay’s movement towards more public transit and other forms of green transport is a bit shocking. With the recent addition to the Bixi bicycle network and planned changes to the Metro system, the city has big changes in store for how people move about the island. While O’Sullivan doesn’t suggest we scrap the STM, maybe we need to evaluate the usefulness of public transit services and other non-car methods of transportation.

The biggest nuisance of taking the bus is, well, taking it with other people. Buses can get quite crowded. If you don’t get on near the beginning of a busy line, you won’t get a seat and might have to stand and get tossed around for a while. Even if you are lucky enough to get a seat, crowded buses aren’t exactly fun to ride. Then there’s the issue of the weather. You might be stuck in a bus where someone keeps their windows open during the winter or closed during the summer. That’s if the bus shows up at all and some lines, like the 420, seem to have buses never show up when they’re supposed to; which is incredibly frustrating during some of the more horrible days of winter. Then there’s the problem of riding a crowded bus during the dog days of summer with a bunch of people who think deodorant is the greatest form of evil in the universe.

Cars solve all those problems because the driver controls the climate. Sure, you could be a nice person and take along a couple of passengers so long as they have proof they’re wearing deodorant. Some cities have tried attempted to add some comfort to taking public transit like air conditioning (which isn’t an option in Montreal) but everything is still controlled by someone else. You might think air conditioning is necessary but the driver may not and vice versa. These issues might not matter if it is only a two minute bus trip but if you’re taking a bus for half-an-hour, it could be a pretty long thirty minutes.

But let’s say you’re not a princess and can handle being around other people who are just as grumpy as you are for taking public transit, unless you are traveling within the downtown core, it become irritating to take public transit. Transferring buses are a way of life but there could be times where a trip might involve multiple transfers including the metro. That’s fine and dandy but if some of those buses only come every 30-40 minutes, it can suck away a bunch of your day just waiting for the next bus. Sometimes, it’s just better to take a taxi to drive twenty minutes instead of busing it for an hour and a half.

Take for example something I had to do a couple of times. When I lived in Cote-Saint-Luc, I lived right next door to Cote-Saint-Luc Shopping Centre. However, the shopping centre did not have a Burger King and many other fine retail establishments so the next best thing was to go to the nearby Angrignon Shopping Centre. By car, it’s about 15 mins. but if I wanted to go by public transit, it would have taken an about an hour by public transit but I would have had to transferred between four buses or two buses and a twenty minute metro ride between two lines. So a car trip there and back would save an hour and a half. Taking the bus wouldn’t be a problem if I had time to kill but if I was bringing back lots of things or one really big thing, taking the bus with multiple transfers is less than ideal.

Public transit works well for the downtown core but it doesn’t work much elsewhere where it is just easier and less stressful to move around by car. Areas close to the downtown like Cote-Saint-Luc and N.D.G. do have frequent bus service but there are few lines that provide service. It’s the situation where walking is a better alternative to taking the bus (except in poor weather conditions). In areas like the West Island and the East End, it is worse. Not only is there infrequent bus service but the routes are so spread out, it practically encourages people to ignore taking the bus and travel by car.

One thing talked preached by those who favour increased transit services is that people will use it if they infrastructure is there. The problem with this is that the infrastructure is expensive. A single bus can cost over $100 000 (including cost of purchase and regular maintenance). Metro extension is costs hundreds of millions of dollars. Ridership has to be there. There is little room for growth because if the ridership cannot cover the costs, the expansion becomes a burden on the province. There is little evidence that expanding bus service throughout the West Island would actually be useful. I lived in the West Island for years. Aside from a couple of bus routes (the 201 and the 211), very rarely were all the seats taken. Until I took the 211 for the first time when I was seventeen did I ever see what I thought at the time was a packed bus. If a bus like the 206 which departs from Roxboro-Pierrefonds train station and cuts through Roxboro and D.D.O. to arrive at Fairview Shopping Centre hardly come close to filling all the seats, what evidence is there to show that creating bus routes or increasing pre-existing ones would be beneficial to anyone?

When it comes down to it, the only potential for public transit expansion is for better service between the three major areas of the island: downtown, West Island, and East End. Metro expansion to the West Island is not a viable option (as I wrote in an earlier post on this blog) although areas like Anjou should be connected to the Metro network. Increased bus/train service or new bus/train lines would be a good solution to linking the three major areas to each other as well. Even better links to the South Shore or Laval would be great. Someone needs to explain to me why it costs me $10 to travel back and forth from my house to Carrefour Laval by public transit which would take five minutes by car while I can go back and forth from my house to the East End for less than $6 while by care it would take me 25 minutes.

Taking the bicycle has become a popular option. The Bixi bicycle program has become wildly popular and further expansion is on the way. Which is nice, because even though I live in a borough of Montreal, I don’t have nearby access to the Bixi network. There are no Bixi stations south of Autoroute 40, west of Cote-Des-Neiges Road, and only four east of Pie-IX. It would be nice to be able to grab a bike from the nearby train station and run some errands but that’s impossible where I live. Although it’s nice how the Bixi website is promoting how other cities are taking the idea and using it themselves.

Then again, taking the bicycle isn’t amazing either. Cars and bicycles are frequently at odds with each other. Cyclers have to be paying constant attention for drivers who are not paying attention where they are going. Driving in the rain is not fun and only the brave (or idiotic) would think about biking in the snow which dominates our landscape many months out of the year. Traveling the city by bike is good at times but awful unless conditions are ideal and the streets are devoid of cars.

Louise O’Sullivan is right to say that biking to business meetings is not ideal. It’s a pipe dream. A good one on some levels (i.e., less pollution). It is just not practical. Mayor Tremblay and the other candidates can sit around on Google Maps all they want and make plans for Bixi stations near other Bixi stations and planning bus lines but there are more important things that need our money and attention (like the conditions of the roads). Unless someone is serious about completely overhauling the public transit system to make it better for all of us instead of people in certain pockets of the island, we need to stop wasting money on study after study to see if adding a Metro stop to the blue line is a good idea.

In what looks to be a repeat of 2007, the Canadian dollar is nearing parity to the U.S. dollar. Normally, I would be happy about this because it makes buying things online cheaper but it doesn’t help the stash of American dollars I have tucked away for my next trip down south.

Hur kommer det sig att EU tillåts frångå sina egna regler och bestämmelser – strunta i folkomröstningsresultat ena året och räkna dem det andra? Hur kommer det sig att det irländska folkomröstningsresultatet från oktoberomröstningen i år överhuvudtaget räknas – när det framkommit fakta om valfusk? Hur kommer det sig att svenska moderater och kristdemokrater sitter i samma partigrupp som en premiärminister som för det första bildat parti med fascister, för det andra stiftat en lag om att han själv åtnjuter brottsimmunitet och därför inte får åtalas trots att det finns fakta som talar för att han begått brott som kan ge fängelse?

Hur kommer det sig att man på svenska polisutbildningar inte talar om skyldigheten för polisen att följa lagar och bestämmelser? Hur kommer det sig att 15 svenska poliser tillåts använda så mycket våld vid ett gripande att den gripne dör, och detta sedan inte utreds? Hur kommer det sig att svensk polis tillåts skjuta ihjäl en psykiskt akut insjuknad yngling framför ögonen på hans föräldrar utan att man ens tar i beaktande vittnesmål från ambulanspersonal som vittnar till polisens nackdel? Hur kommer det sig att regeringen kan införa lagar som strider mot grundlagen,   Europakonventionen och FN:s mänskliga rättigheter? Hur kommer det sig att riksdagen tillåts ratificera Lissabonfördraget, trots att Lissabonfördragets rättighetsstadga och vår grundlags inte stämmer överens, vilket gör, att maktöverföringen enligt grundlagen inte är tillåten och därför inte heller legitim?

Hur kommer det sig att den svenska regeringen kan införa en lag om massövervakning utan brottsmisstanke? Hur kommer det sig att den svenska regeringen tillåts fortsätta utförsäljningen av allmän egendom trots att liknande utförsäljningar bedömts som stöld av domstol? Hur kommer det sig att så många gripna tar livet av sig i häktet och detta bara tillåts fortgå, trots allvarlig internationell kritik från tunga instanser? Hur kommer det sig att SJ tillåts registrera sina resenärer utan att det strider mot personuppgiftslagen? Hur kommer det sig att den svenska regeringen tillåts nonchalera sitt informationsansvar gentemot riksdagen – gång på gång? Hur kommer det sig att den svenska regeringen tillåts inrätta ‘domstol’ där anklagade varken ges rätt till juridiskt ombud eller medborgerlig insyn? Etc.

Det bara är så. Vi får bara vänja oss vid att det bara är så. För ingenting händer. Och det tillåts fortgå.

Till råga på allt vill nu moderaterna även införa censur och ha samma makt över media som Berlusconi i Italien.  Som om högerdominansen över media inte räckte och blev över.

Res er upp och protestera – närmast nu på lördag mot massövervakning via FRA. Vi lever snart i en diktatur, om än ‘light’. För regeringspartierna (M) och (KD) sitter i samma partigrupp, EPP-ED, som italienska fascister - i Popolo della Liberta som dessutom är ett av partigruppens största partier – lett av Silvio Berlusconi, en italiensk premiärminister som dominerar och kontrollerar italienska media, och utöver det anser att han straffritt ska få begå brott.

Ach ist das schön… ich kann mir meine Arbeitszeiten nahezu beliebig legen, kann auf Arbeit kommen und gehen wann ich will. Weil ich aber faul bin, habe ich das getan was wohl die meisten tun würden: ich habe sie mir so gelegt dass sie am besten mit meinen täglichen Gewohnheiten korrelieren.

Ergebnis ist natürlich dass ich irgendwann zwischen 8 und 9 auf Arbeit aufschlage und gegen 18:00 wieder nach Hause wackel. Mein, neuerdings sehr schön auf 5min Fußweg verkürzter, Arbeitsweg macht es dann auch noch möglich dass dies auch ziemlich genau die Zeiten sind zu denen ich unsere Wohnung verlasse und betrete und so genieße ich den Luxus aufstehen zu können wenn ich sowieso gerade munter werden würde und wieder nach Hause zu gehen wenn meine Leistungsfähigkeit eh langsam im Keller verschwindet.

Das wäre wirklich alles toll.. aber leider scheint unsere tolle Gesellschaft auf solche Arbeitszeiten irgendwie nicht vorbereitet…

Es geht ja schon los wenn ich mal aufs Amt muss… Öffnungszeiten sind Montag bis Freitag irgendwann zwischen 9 und 14 Uhr, Dienstag und Donnerstag gibt es aus unglaublich großer Gnade auch mal Öffnungszeiten bis 18:00. BRAVO! Schon ein Fall für den ich mir fast Urlaub nehmen muss nur um ein Formular abzuholen oder so. (Wobei es in Dresden noch geht, da hier viele Ämter glücklicherweise auch mal Samstags öffnen. Dumm ist halt nur wenn man in einer Kleinstadt wie meiner Heimatstadt Zschopau wohnen würde… aber da gibts ja nicht viele Leute, betrifft also kaum jemanden.)

Bei Banken gehts gleich weiter… Öffnungszeiten immer nur bis 18:00, Freitags (wenn es sich sogar mal lohnen würde zeitiger Schluss zu machen) nur bis Mittag! \o/
Wobei das ja eh nicht mein Hauptproblem mit Banken ist… jeder der schonmal in einer anderen Sparkasse geld auf sein Konto bei der eigenen Sparkasse einzahlen wollte weiß wovon ich rede (Ein Problem dass man nicht hat wenn es Einzahlungsautomaten für Kleingeld und Scheine gibt… die ich aber bisher nur in der Kleinstadt Zschopau gesehen habe, wo ich nicht drauf angewiesen bin, und weder in Zwickau, noch Dresden).

Doch ignorieren wir mal die Bürokratie, es gibt ja noch genug andere Stellen an denen man mit Menschen interagieren muss…
Ärzte (MUHAHAHAHA, schonmal versucht nach 18:00 zum Zahnarzt zu gehen?), spezialisierte Einzelhändler (ok, der Gemüseladen/das Einkaufszentrum an der Ecke hat 8-20 Uhr geöffnet aber wer kennt einen Uhrmacher der vor 9 oder nach 18 Uhr noch jemanden in den Laden lässt?) oder Post-Filialen, keiner scheint anzunehmen dass außerhalb der üblichen Zeiten noch Kunden unterwegs sein könnten.

Post! Das ist sowieso ein Stichwort. Die Post schlägt bei uns irgendwann zwischen 12 und 17 Uhr auf. Ich könnte ja damit leben dass sie langsam ist, Pakete mehr wirft als Transportiert oder dass Briefe auch permanent unterwegs verloren gehen… aber wie zum Henker soll ich jemals zuhause sein wenn ein Paket ankommt?
Ich könnte mich ja sogar damit abfinden mein Mittagessen auf 14:00 oder so zu verlegen und statt zum Dönermann lieber nach Hause zu gehen, dann könnte ich nicht nur Weg sparen sondern auch noch meine Nachbarn zu ebener Erde entlasten mir ständig meine Pakete entgegennehmen zu müssen (Ich will auch eigentlich garnicht wissen wer dafür haftet wenn mal ernsthaft ein Paket verloren geht oder so.).
Aber auch hier gilt: ich kann nicht jeden zweiten Tag erstmal für 5 Stunden Mittagspause machen… besser noch, ich weiß ja nichtmal genau an welchem Tag das Paket ankommt und kann höchstens mit Schätzwerten arbeiten.
Aber zum Glück gibt es ja besagte Nachbarn! Da zu denen der Fußweg so viel kürzer ist als zu uns ins 2. Obergeschoss, hat es sich in letzter Zeit sogar eingebürgert dass man gleich erstmal bei denen klingelt ob die das Paket annehmen… auch am Wochenende wenn wir zuhause sind!
Ich habe ja bereits mindestens 3-4 Pakete angenommen seitdem wir in Dresden wohnen… meine Nachbarn kommen bereits für Samstag Morgen auf erheblich mehr, am besten natürlich so dass man zum ersten Mal am Tag die Wohnung verlässt und im Briefkasten den Hinweis findet dass vor 15min. ein Paketbote da war.
Aber zumindest brauch ich mir keine Sorgen zu machen dass das daran liegen würde dass die Post nicht weiß wo ich wohne… denn immerhin weiß sie das gut genug um diese Daten schön öffentlich zu verkaufen.

Doch zurück zum eigentlichen Thema: Jeder Laden, jede Institution, jedes Amt hat ungefähr die gleichen Öffnungs- wie ich Arbeitszeiten. Jeder scheint genau dann auf Arbeit aufzuschlagen wenn ich das auch tu und keinen scheint es zu stören.
Da haben wir doch mal wieder ein tolles Beispiel für die “Servicewüste Deutschland”, meines Erachtens weit aussagekräftiger als dass niemand meine Sachen an der Kasse für mich einpackt (das wollen die Leute eh nicht: “Lassen sie das liegen, junger Mann! Das sind meine Einkäufe!”) oder dass $billigsterAllerInternetanbieter nur automatisierte Hotlines für 9,90€ die Minute als Hilfe anbietet.

Meine Arbeitszeit ist nicht zu selten oder zu abwegig! Meine Arbeitszeit ist zu normal und zu üblich!

This morning saw me amazed and confused…As per usual I was on the bus coming to work and the ticket checkers came on to check tickets. I dutifully pulled out my monthly bus pass and the checker looked at it, and exclaimed incredulously, “But this is written in PENCIL!!” My answer, “Yes, when I asked the salesman for a pen this was all he had, so rather than leave it blank I wrote my name and the month in pencil.” It seemed logical to me. The conversation, however, did not end there and continued thusly:

CHECKER [ haughtily]: “Well, I could give you a fine for this!”

ME [heat rising to my face]: “Why exactly, what is wrong with it? This is my name and the month is the same as the month stamped on the validated end of the ticket.”

CHECKER: “It doesn’t prove anything! They are two different things. This could be someone else’s pass!”

ME [very ticked off now, and holding myself back]:  “It could be someone else’s pass even if it was written in pen, you never ask for ID when you check the bus passes, I could have taken it from anyone, pen or pencil.”

CHECKER [flustered]: “It’s not the same!” [clearly his little bureaucratic brain could not make this logical conclusion] “I should give you the fine!”

ME [utterly furious and seriously tempted to punch his little face]: “Here is my ID card, to prove I am the same person, go ahead and give me the fine but I refuse to pay it and will challenge it on the grounds of being illogical.”

CHECKER [grabs card, and compares data - impeccably correct] “Fine but write it in pen as soon as you can.”

ME [satisfied]: “As soon as I get to the office I will.”

I was furious for over two hours. I spend €36.00 a month for those bus passes and at least once a month I also spend an additional €15.00 on a taxi to get to work since the bus people are on strike. And the peabrain harasses me because all I had was a pencil? I mean seriously, if I wanted to cheat them I wouldn’t have offered my bus pass. When the guy asked if I had been checked already, I could have simply said NO. The simpleton did not quite get that however…oh well the moral of this story is: STAY AWAY FROM PENCILS!

Wer Guido kennt weiss aber: Er ist schon einen Schritt weiter. Waehrend jetzt gemeinhin gemutmasst wird, er werde als Vize-Kanzler das Aussenministerium anstreben, lassen seine Fremdsprachenkenntnisse (wir berichteten) durchaus vermuten, dass ihm der Sinn nach anderem steht.
