I was watching E!’s show 10 Vampires We Love shortly after I came home from watching New Moon. The show was a countdown of the vampires that the people of E! like. I’ll include the list at the end of this post. Anyway, I have a bone to pick with who they chose to be on the list. I noticed that the list didn’t include, in my opinion, a variety of vampires, and the fact that all, except one, of the vampires are from movies or tv shows that came out within the last ten years. Anyway, what I mean by the lack of variety is that four of the vampires came from two different sources. I find it biased like how this post is. The reason that I have a problem is that they didn’t include other vampires like Henry Fitzpatrick from Blood Ties, Mick St. John from Moonlight or any of the vampires from the Vampire Chronicles or The Lost Boys. I don’t think it’s right to put a relatively unknown vampire like Santinico Pandemonium or Dracula from Dracula 2000 on a list like 10 Vampires We Love when there are better qualified vampires out there.

I got to watch New Moon on the day after the premiere, and I’m telling you, the whole experience was nuts. As soon as I sat down to watch the movie, and the New Moon title screen came up, the rest of the audience started to scream. I thought to myself, jeez, what a bunch of crazy fan girls. Now keep in mind that while I like the books and the movies, I will forever be a Vampire Chronicles fan. Anyway, again, everybody screamed when Edward and Jacob came on, as well as when Jacob took off his shirt for the first time. Now, I can understand why everybody was screaming when Jacob took his shirt off for the first time, but why for Edward? I’m sorry, but I think that Edward is a pasty-ass pansy. Anyway, overall, I think that the movie was ok. There were quite a bit of funny parts but I think the movie is just a bunch of notable scenes from the book that was just pieced together and made into a movie. I gotta admit though, it’s very Chris Weitz. I say that because it reminded me of the movie that he did before, The Golden Compass. Both The Golden Compass and New Moon were edited very similarly. Anyway, don’t let my opinion deter you from watching the movie.

I have discovered that I have a trend for becoming obsessed with bands that have a female lead vocalist. Is it that female fronted bands are just so much better than their male counterparts? Or do they just hold more appeal with me? I suppose the trend started with Amy Lee and Evanescence but in fact I think the young, tender roots of this obsession were germinated with Shirley Manson and Garbage. Evanescence were my first favourite, until I discovered No Doubt and Gwen Stefani. Then, out of nowhere the feisty flame-haired Hayley Williams appeared on the scene with Paramore. It was love at first listen and the others were gently nudged aside by Paramore’s brilliance. Then my second mistress stole my heart, the infectious and awe-inspiring Karen O and Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Also in my harem of female fronted bands are the delightful Emily Haines and Metric. Though I have a large harem, Karen O and Hayley Williams are by far my favourites and hold very special places in my heart and ears.

In my Lestat vs. Edward pictures post, one of the pictures that I mentioned had a reaction from Armand. It made me think. There’s a similarity between Armand/Marius and Bella/Edward relationships. The similarity is that Armand and Bella were both humans that were turned into vampires by their respective vampire lovers, Marius and Edward. I didn’t really realize that until I saw Armand’s reaction in that picture. I just thought that was interesting.

After several months of following and reviewing Maggie McClure’s music – I was far more than amazed with her talent.  Maggie is from Norman, OK and has performed over 100 shows throughout 2008 – 2009 – Maggie’s self-title album released in Feb 2009 in Japan was produced by several recognized names in the music industry that consist of Nick Lachey, Shane and Shane, Amy Lee of Evanescence and Will Hunt to name a few.  Maggie has music being used on TV Shows such as, MTV’s The Hill and The City, and soap opera hit The Young & The Restless.

I personally admire this talented artists – her music is so strong and she is definitely an example of what being a artists is all about.  I feel her heart and soul in her music and the work that she has dedicated to perfecting her craft is matched among the majors.  There is no excuse for success and each track, show and/or appearance proves that she lives to work, entertain and learn.  Maggie is expected to graduate college in December 09 – if that accomplishment is not enough – it definitely has not been an excuse for Maggie.  She has a presidential schedule every month not including the often so-called stress of finals…LOL.  I have been there and I understand exactly how Maggie is motivated.

Not only is Maggie blessed with fine musical talents – she is absolutely stunning, beautiful and very smart.  After having the opportunity to speak personally with Maggie – I found that she is very well mannered, respectful and humble.  I expect to see and hear many great things about this gorgeous young lady during her journey in the music industry.  I think she clarify what she is about in many of her songs.  You don’t have to be a punk rocker, R&B singer and/or member of a band to have totally cool music – Maggie is a step above her competition at all levels including understanding the music business and what steps to take next.  She is a very patient decision maker and seems to be making all the right choices during her successful career all the way to this point.

Pe astăzi m-am hotărât, cam cu greu ce-i drept, să scriu un post despre o parte din cele mai ”delicioase” colaborări, din punctul meu de vedere, între diverse trupe şi diverşi artişti. Poate în viitorul apropiat voi mai face posturi de acest gen, în caz că prind bine.

Încep cu capitolul Apocalyptica. Cei care au ascultat vreodata Apocalyptica ştiu foarte bine că aceasta e o trupă total diferită de orice altceva aţi asculta. Diferenţa asta o face faptul că membrii trupei interpretează piese rock pe 4 respectiv 3 violoncele. Ei au început ca trupă de cover pentru Metallica, dovadă fiind şi sufixul numelui. În orice caz, după primul album (”Plays Metallica by Four Cellos”) care e constituit integral din cover-uri Metallica, băieţi au început încet încet să îşi facă propriile piese, dar totushi neîndepărtându-se total de la vechiile obiceiuri, ajungând să facă cover-uri pe Faith No More, Pantera, David Bowie, Rammstein etc.

Revenind la subiectul principal al articolului, de-a lungul celor 7 albume ale trupei, aceştia au făcut diverse colaborări care mai de care mai reuşite. Nu le voi lua în ordine cronologică pentru că nu le ştiu, şi pentru că sunt prea ardelean in momentele de faţa să caut pe net.

În schimb am să încep cu prima, şi anume ”Hope vol.2”. Încep cu această piesă deoarece de obicei când o ascult îmi dă o oarecare stare de euforie. O voce de care nu mulţi oameni ştiu, dar valorificată de Apocalyptica pe bună dreptate, Matthias Sayer, vocalistul trupei Farmer Boys, face din originala ”Hope” o piesă mult mai… interesantă.

A doua piesă, ”S.O.S.”, sau  ”Anything but Love”, colaborare extrem de reuşită a trupei cu Cristina Scabbia, solista trupei Lacuna Coil. Piesa e extrem de reuşită, mesajul e foarte clar trimis, intrumentalul de asemenea este extrem de bun, nu că am putea avea alte aşteptări din partea Apocalypticei.

A treia şi ultima piesă pe care o menţionez de la Apocalyptica în acest post, este binecunoscuta ”Bittersweet”. Posibil cea mai cunoscută colaborare a trupei cu alţi muzicieni, ”Bittersweet” combină cu un succes incontestabil vocea lui Ville Valo (HIM) cu vocea lui Lauri Ylonen (The Rasmus) cu instrumentalul tipic Apocalyptica. Nu sunt sigur că experienţa ”Bittersweet” poate fi descrisă la modul general, cred că diferă de la individ la individ, şi singurul mod să afli cum ţi se pare este să o ascultţi.

Pentru că nu vreau să mă axez în totalitate pe Apocalyptica în acest articol, las celelalte piese pentru nişte posturi viitoare.

O altă colaborare foarte reuşită, pe care eu personal am ascultat-o zile la rând cu mici pauze, este ”Broken”, colaborare între Seether şi Amy Lee. Original, piesa nu conţine vocea solistei de la Evanescence, dar ulterior Seether au făcut un cover pe propria piesă, featuring Amy Lee. Rezultatul a fost foarte reuşit, vocea artistei potrivindu-se aproape perfect cu vocea solistului de la Seether. Oricine a ascultat vreodata Evanescence, ştie foarte bine de capabilităţile vocale deosebite ale solistei. Păstrându-şi tenta Seether, piesa îşi schimbă sunetul datorită vocalistei şi, după părerea mea, mesajul este mult mai clar.

Ultima piesă pe care am s-o menţionez în acest articol este ”Lily was Here”, colaborare între Dave Stewart şi Candy Dulfer. Ştiu că nu sunteţi obişnuiţi cu astfel de exemple din partea mea, dar piesa era prea ”sexy” să nu o menţionez măcar. Ascultaţi cu încredere dar aveţi grijă că piesa provoacă diferite stări ”spirituale”. La ce să te aştepţi altcumva de la o combinaţie între chitară şi saxofon?

De-a lungul articolelor trecute, am mai enumerat diverse piese de genul, diverse ”featuringuri” cum ar fi ” I Don’t Care” (Apocalyptica & Adam Gontier) sau în special ”Lucky” (Jason Mraz & Colbie Caillat).

Acestea fiind spuse, vă las să ascultaţi în pace piesele precizate. Sper că v-am sporit curiozitatea cu acest articol, şi vă las cu mioriticul Numa’ Bine!

Depois de duas semanas após o show, eu meio que acordei e vi que não, aquilo não foi um sonho. E foi o melhor dia da minha vida, a melhor semana da minha vida. Foi inesquecível e compensou todo o cansaço de passar mais de 24 horas acordada sem poder dormir nem no avião; as conexões imbecis; as brigas com a mãe; a saudade de casa e do meu amor; a virose seguindo de uma sinusite assim que cheguei aqui.
Valeu a pena passar por tudo isso e gastar todo esse dinheiro – mesmo passando por uma má fase financeira. Eu amei cada minutinho, cada segundinho dessa viagem e desse show e tô muito feliz de finalmente ter realizado o meu maior sonho desde os nove anos.
Amy, Terry, Tim, vocês ‘tavam lindos! Eu não me importo de não ter pegado uma das palhetas que eles jogaram, ganhado o meet&greet ou de ter ido ao hotel – claro que seria bem melhor, mas só de ir ao show e ver vocês de pertinho me fez chorar de felicidade como eu nunca chorei na vida. :~

Esse foi o melhor presente de aniversário de todos. Evanescence. ♥

PS: Desculpem a demora pra postar. Ainda não tava acreditando, não tinha nada em mente pra falar e meio que me desliguei do mundo. E, ah, Tumblr virou o meu novo vício.

Tuttut. Je zou zo langzamerhand gaan denken dat Evanescence (= Engels voor vergankelijkheid, voor de nitwits) is blijven hangen de laatste keer dat ze rond middernacht een kerkhof bezocht, want dat doen gothics graag. In 2006 kwam immers haar laatste album uit en sindsdien lijkt ze van de aardbodem verdwenen.

Maar niets is minder waar mensen. Amy Lee leeft! Althans, 9 uur geleden (op moment van schrijven) gaf ze nog een teken van leven. En alsof dat nog niet genoeg is is ze ook nog eens bezig met een 3e album! In juni reeds kondigde mevrouw op haar site aan dat er in 2010 een nieuwe langspeelplaat gaat verschijnen. Naar eigen zeggen wordt het album een evolutie van vorig werk: “Better, stronger and more interesting.” Mijn zegen heb je hoor, Amy. Maar ik hoop wel dat je wat minder hard gaat schreeuwen dan op het vorige album.

I was looking up Edward Cullen on Wikipedia and I saw that it said that Edward was a Byronic hero. Because of that, I clicked on the link that explained what a Byronic hero was. Anyway, as I was reading the characteristics, it did sounds like Edward As I continued down the website, it mentioned that Lestat from the Vampire Chronicles and the Phantom from the Phantom of the Opera were Byronic heros as well, but I digress with the Phantom. That made me think about how much Lestat and Edward were alike in the sense that they are both Byronic heros. I think that’s the reason why I don’t like either character. I mean, it’s not that I hate them, but it’s just that they’re not my favorites characters from their respective series. Anyway, I think that’s the reason why I don’t like Lestat and Edward is the fact that they’re Byronic heros.

In my search for any Lestat vs. Edward stuff, I found quite a few pictures that made fun of Edward and the Twilight series or making fun of the fact the Twilight series “outshines” the Vampire Chronicles. The one that I found to be the most funny was the one where it showed Edward and Bella together in the first box, and the following three boxes showing Louis, Lestat, and Armand telling their opinions on the series. I found that Lestat’s and Armand’s reactions to be the most funny. Their reactions were classic Lestat and Armand. Anyway, the next one that I thought was funny was the one where Lestat as picking on Edward. I just found those funny. By the way, you can find the originals at this site.

I was bored recently and was on my computer I don’t know why but I typed Lestat vs. Edward into Google to see what I would get. Anyway, a lot of stuff that popped up were drawings of people making fun of Edward through Lestat’s point of view, and videos and articles asking who would win in a no-holds bar fight. I immediately thought that Lestat would definitely win. I say that because, after looking up their powers as a refresher, while Edward has super strength, super speed, and can read minds, Lestat can do or has all of that, plus so much more. Lestat also has pyrokinesis, the ability to fly, and he’s telekinetic. Plus, he killed an entire wolf pack by himself, albeit with the help of his two mastiff dogs. Anyway, I really think that Lestat would definitely win the fight against Edward, and that’s assuming Lestat doesn’t fall in love with Edward first, which I doubt would actually happen, and that Lestat doesn’t hurt Bella.

“Wake me up inside, wake me up inside, call my name and save me from the dark,” Amy Lee of Evanescence sings on my IPOD.  Yesterday I was back running.  I’m training for another marathon.  A girl’s got to do something.  This was the one song I sang to when I was running the last marathon.  Note to self, people will look at you strangely when you sing along while running a marathon.  Or maybe I’m just not a very good singer. 

 But I like this song.  It’s everything I think about writing.  Writing is about waking up inside.  It’s about wrenching something dark from the inner tube of your own longing.  Monday night at dinner I sat beside Pete Fairchild, a poet who knows about earth and longing and fire.  I remember hearing him read for us at the Ruskin years ago and our staff afterward couldn’t stop themselves reading his poems out loud to each other.  The poems about driving cars and the prairie and the sun getting low.  They were dizzy with too many pitchers of beer and they kept reading Fairchild trying to climb inside the way he’d read the poem which was so low and gravelly you almost felt the dirt in your throat and felt your mother coming after you to get her car back.  Fairchild is a poet who writes of steel and hard work, of roads and of the inside of things that are huge.  When I think of his poetry I think of ironworks and the Hoover Dam even though all that isn’t in the poems, it comes to me anyway, the machinery of the earth.  I am away from skyscrapers, and closer to steel mills and people like me who can’t pay their bills and I like these people and I know that they will share their beer with me and maybe fries. 

 Jamaica Kincaid was there at dinner too, very clear eyed and lovely.  I saw her at the brunch and then again at dinner until I felt dizzy with seeing her.  We have all read her work, “Girl” and Annie John and I have read everything she’s written and loved the girl with marbles, the red girl, the mother, the island, the braids, I have wished to be that girl.  I have been the bad girl.  I have wished to have that mother if only so she could turn away from me.  I have pictured that father.  Kincaid gave us an island life in the most clear startling prose until we had eaten those corn fritters, had sung benna, if you were a bad girl and I was, I would grow to be the woman who the baker wouldn’t let near the bread.  Jamaica is so beautiful, just watching her alert in the light, I could see her storytelling face and I felt happy.  I remembered how many times I had read her stories after I left the cult and knew that I too was an outsider.  Not wearing the proper shoes.  Not a proper hat for a girl, they would say to me over and over.  And that would make me smile.  Make me glad in the heat.  For all things not proper are mine.

Since New Moon is coming out next month, I have noticed many fans both for New Moon and Evanescence suggest this song should be in the movie. (Amy Lee Rocks! I lover her)

Il prossimo gruppo che ascolteremo sono gli Evanescence con Lithium! Questa canzone è il secondo singolo tratto dall’album The Open Door del 2006. Tema fondamentale del video, la lotta con sè stessi, infatti la cantante del gruppo americano Amy Lee, alterna vestiti chiari a vestiti scuri.

Depois de um período em hiato, o Evanescence parece estar aos poucos retornando à vida. A caminho do Brasil para um show no festival Maquinaria, a pianista, cantora, compositora e simpática Amy Lee, a fada gótica de 27 anos, garante que o sucessor do álbum “The open door”, lançado em 2006, já está sendo preparado.

A artista diz ainda que se lembra bem de sua estreia no Brasil, em abril de 2007, quando o grupo formado em Little Rock, Arkansas, fez sua primeira turnê latino-americana. “Os fãs estavam muito empolgados. Foram ao nosso hotel, cantaram e passaram a noite toda lá. Foram realmente muito fofos e nos fizeram sentir benvindos e amados. Os shows foram fantásticos e eles ficaram totalmente fora de controle. Há algo muito especial nos fãs brasileiros. Eles são muito apaixonados”, observa.

Essa paixão é tão incontrolável que muitos deles até fazem tatuagens com o símbolo do Evanescence. “Eu nunca recomendaria, porque é para a vida toda. Mas, obviamente, fico lisonjeada. É realmente bem maluco”, diz Amy Lee, acrescentando ter altas expectativas quanto ao seu retorno ao país.

“Acho que vai ser muito divertido. Não quero que seja igual à última vez em que estivemos aí, porque não vamos tocar músicas novas, mas a ideia é tentar tocar faixas que não mostramos da outra vez e tornar a apresentação mais legal. A base do repertório serão os grandes sucessos, coisas que todo mundo conhece. Vou tentar escolher algo interessante para vestir”, ri, se desculpando pela falta de material inédito. “Teremos novidades na próxima vez, eu prometo.”

Fã de moda, Amy Lee costuma fazer algumas das próprias roupas e já planeja o figurino que usará no festival brasileiro. “Adoro pensar que estou vestindo uma obra de arte e sempre me preocupo com o que usar. Encontrei um estilista há dois meses para criar um figurino novo para a apresentação. O palco nos permite pirar mais nessas coisas.”

Ela se apresenta acompanhada do guitarrista Terry Balsamo, do baixista Tim McCord e do baterista Will Hunt, além de um guitarrista de apoio. Se a truculenta saída do guitarrista John LeCompt e do baterista Rocky Gray há dois anos parece ter ficado no passado, a artista não esconde algumas inseguranças com a nova configuração.

“Sempre que há mudanças na banda eu fico um pouco nervosa”, admite. “Qualquer coisa que mude, até um integrante da equipe, me deixa nervosa, porque eu não quero que nada dê errado. Mas teremos uma semana inteira para ensaiar juntos [antes do show no Brasil] e vai dar tudo certo.”

O tão aguardado disco de inéditas deve sair no segundo semestre de 2010. “Minha vida tem sido o álbum novo”, diz. “Não escrevi nada no ano passado, não sei o que houve, simplesmente não saía. Mas aí este ano algo aconteceu, comecei a ficar maluca. Estou compondo muita música ultimamente, estou indo para uma direção totalmente nova e incrível. Eu realmente gostaria de poder mostrar essas coisas no show, mas vou esperar o disco sair. Estou trabalhando em coisas relacionadas ao novo álbum quase todos os dias.”

O plano, segundo a artista, é entrar em estúdio entre janeiro e fevereiro do ano que vem e lançar o novo trabalho até o final do verão no hemisfério norte. “Mas ainda não sei dizer o dia certo”, despista ela, segura de que não sairá em carreira solo tão cedo.

“Estive pensando muito em como o novo álbum deveria chamar, esse tipo de coisa, e quando comecei a escrever, percebi que sou a mesma pessoa de sempre e não vejo por que mudar o nome. O Evanescece é um projeto meu, é uma grande parte de mim, e o coração dele ainda está lá. Passei muito tempo pensando nisso e cheguei à conclusão de que posso fazer o que quiser com esta banda.”

Agora casada com o terapeuta Josh Hartzler, Amy Lee diz que mudou seu ponto de vista em relação à importância que dá às coisas. “Casar é um passo muito importante. Depois disso, você coloca tudo em perspectiva. É como se o Evanescence fosse o meu marido antes. Agora, se tudo der errado, e todo mundo odiar a música, o que eu espero que não aconteça, sei que tem alguém que me ama me esperando.”
