Remember Amy Winehouse? Well she’s a godmother…i know right, great role model. Anyways, Dionne Bromfield is her god-daughter, born in 1996 and fierce. The girl can sing. Sounds like a grown woman coming out of child’s body, figuratively not literally.She’s signed on to Amy Winehouse’ record label Lioness Records and has released some cover songs. I can’t wait till she starts producing original stuff.

Despite what Wikipedia has to say about notable deaths this year, we’re using the patented General Disdain Celebrity Meter, in which the person qualifies if they died and I cared (or would care enough to take note).  So, if we’re sticking to the rule of 3, and stretching it enough to include Carradine in the first run of 3 (he died in early June, well before the others in his group), that actually means that the cutoff date should probably be…today.

   Lovely Amy here is only 25 years old.  Do you remember when she was first popular, and “Rehab” was a funny song about how she wanted to drink and do drugs and you can just shut your damn mouth because she’s a rock star?  It was kind of nice to have a throwback artist who was openly abusing drugs and alcohol but seemingly keeping it together.  That is, of course, until she stopped keeping it together, and started living in St. Lucia, harassing tourists, hotel staff, and assaulting our eyes with her death on a stick appearance.  However, after the odd facial skin disease period, and the repeated hospitalization, Amy seems to have settled into a nice “walking dead” look that so many experienced addicts seem to find.  Experienced addicts like…
2. Courtney Love
   
   
   
   Courtney isn’t so young and spry, but what she lacks in youth, she makes up for in veteran drug abuse.  The picture above is about a week old, and while Mrs. Cobain has been seen looking painfully think, drunk, and generally awful all around Los Angeles for some months now, her descent into complete zombiefication seems nearly complete.  Even if Courtney does bite it soon, I would expect to see her stumbling around the week after, mumbling about brains.
3. Lindsay Lohan
   
   Oh, Lindsay.  Lindsay celebrates her 23rd birthday this week!  Let’s all congratulate her on managing, in 5 short years, from going from being one of the prettiest, seemingly funny and sweet (Remember Mean Girls?  That was in 2004!) young female stars in Hollywood to whatever the hell that thing is in the white shorts.  Lindsay’s travels (or perhaps more appropriately, travails) have been well documented in other places on the Internet, so I won’t waste your time rehashing them here.   It doesn’t seem like Lindsay has quite hit the bottom like Winehouse seemed to a short time ago, and I think at this point I’m expecting Lohan’s obit to pop up in my RSS reader.  Lindsay’s continued indulgence of her downward spiral might make her the clear leader.  You know, like Barbaro.  Because he’s dead, see?
   
4. Patrick Swayze
   
   Sure, it’s sad that The Swayze has been locked in a mortal battle with cancer for more than a year and a half.  Yes, I am sensitive to how painful and cruel his treatment has been.  I realize also that because of Dirty Dancing, Pat’s got a special place in many of your hearts (for me it’s Roadhouse).  However, how much sympathy do you offer a man that more than once in the past 12 months has been given only weeks to live by his doctors but stubbornly continues to smoke?  I don’t find a lot of humor in Pat’s plight, but this list would incomplete if I didn’t include him.  Besides, is self-destruction that leads to cancer any more pitiable that drug abuse?  Or are you just all sad about the abs (for me it’s the tai chi)?

5. Spencer Pratt
   
   

   Ah, if only rampant douchebaggery was a fatal disease.  Here’s hoping the old Karma train is making a beeline for The Hills.  Maybe Spencer can get hit by a frozen boulder of feces falling from a plane.  That seems appropriate.

Reports now suggest that ms winhouse has teamed up with Mark Ronson and Jay Z to help her with her third album, jay z in the past wanted to work with her but felt she needed to be on the mend to do so.

In his work, Perego recreated the scene and replaced Vollmer with the lovely Amy Winehouse.

It’s been a rough morning for yours truly so far. I was supposed to get my hair done but the stylist just had to cancel (he mumbled something about a nightmare involving Britney Spears’ weave and that he would never touch hair again, etc, etc); my makeup artist was 3 minutes late AGAIN and I had to fire her on the spot; and my personal chef had the nerve to char the edges of my multigrain toast and served me scrambled eggs when I specifically requested them over easy…

SIGH. Being important and rich sure is rough! That’s why I can totally commiserate with the following celebrities who are forced to be out in public before their styling teams can make them so perfect that it makes the hoi polloi weep self-conscious tears of sorrow and wonder why they can’t look like us…

If you noticed, I added a new page at the top of this blog.  “Free Tracks.”  Pretty self-explanatory.

I’m gearing up to release my mixtape Bring Me the Head of Zilla Rocca on September 23 (pluggin’!).  While this allows me to stress out and lose sleep until everything is a ‘go, it doesn’t change the fact that my archives are getting thick.  We at Beat Garden are nowhere near the likes of Madlib or Kool Keith, but there’s enough proper bangage in the hard drive that never made it to a centralized place (outside of the Media section on www.beatgardenentertainment.com)

As a compulsive task-driven Virgo who fiends for a uniformed, centralized home for all things, it makes sense that I have a place here at Clap Cowards for that “ol’ robotic, futuristic, George Jetson” batch of crap which may or may not have seen the light of day on other sites throughout the year(s).

If you already have downloaded a bunch of these songs, THANK YOU!!!  If not, here’s a quick synopsis as to why the hell we recorded these songs in the first place:

1.  Jamie Lidell “A Little Bit More (Zilla Rocca Remix)”– The funkiest white boy this side of Ad Rock, Jamie’s album Multiply felt like everything Justin Timberlake wished he could’ve done in the studio if he read blogs and liked Otis Redding.  I decided to write one of the most misognynistic raps over this ill beatbox loop and tie it into Jamie’s hook.  Apologies to all girls named Michelle who work for minimum wage.

2.   Nas “Hope (Zilla Rocca Remix)”–I remember calling out from work one day and spending my entire morning remixing this song from Nas’ Hip Hop is Dead.  I happened to be one of three winners over at SpineMagazine.com for this remix for a contest they ran late ‘06, a huge achievement for a nerd like me!  The sample I used is from one of the biggest indie rock bands of all time–can you guess the band and song?  This is one of the more stripped down beats I ever made, so when the Wild Style drum loop pops up, it’s more memorable.  Unless you’ve never seen Wild Style, in which case I umm…well…oooh…yeah.  Check it out.  

3.  Amy Winehouse  “Back to Black (Zilla Rocca remix)”–Everyone rapped over “Rehab,” but this song is so beautiful, heartbreaking, and chilling, I couldn’t believe people fell for the song about Amy’s ongoing coke habit.  I had the Winehouse record a few months before it dropped in the states and was blown away–sure, she ripped of fSharon Jones and the beehive girl groups of the 60s, but the songs are wonderfully written, the mix is rustic and nuanced, and the drums and horns got more swing than Ken Griffey.  Amy’s hook is simply painful and vivid, so I tried to make up a story about true love that is forced to die, hence the military love triangle theme.  People picked up this song all over the internet at the height of Winehouse Mania–it’s really weird. 

4.  D’Angelo “She’s In My Hair (Zilla Rocca Remix)”–Brown Sugar was the first R&B album I ever loved (Don’t Be Cruel and Boyz II Men’s first tape are close second’s).  I listen to Voodoo at least once every other week at work.  A couple months back, I read a harrowing piece on D’Angelo in SPIN about how he’s devolved into an overly self-concious, drug addicted, overweight mess who was snakebitten by his sexpot image and the praise other people received for Voodoo (?uestlove, James Poyser, Dilla, etc).  I found this live cover of Prince’s “She’s In My Hair” on a mix CD a DJ put together of D’s work last year and had it floating around in my iPod.  Last month while chilling with 2ew Gunner on the beach in Rhode Island being forced to stare at scantily clad 16 year olds, this song came on randomly.  R&B sucks when D’Angelo isn’t dropping albums.   

5.  Portishead “Machine Gune (Zilla Rocca Remix)”–Arguably the best thing to come out of the 90s after day glo scrunchies, Portishead dropped this smash mouth metallic single earlier this year.  The choppy war drums were inspired by Marley Marl and BDP, so why not get your rhyme on?  My remix popped up on some college radio playlist, which again was very weird.  And I received my first piece of negative feedback from some random blogger who completely trashed my lyrics in favor of….Lil’ Wayne.  You be the judge.

6.  Three Six Mafia  “Stay Fly (Zilla Rocca Remix)”–I did this as a one off for some Canadian indie label’s website 2 years ago. They posted the original sample and urged people to flip it anyway they wanted.  Why not chop it up and make it the backdrop for a song that asks instructs you to “smoke all night, drink all day” because ”that to me is the American way”? 

7.  Clean Guns “Neighborhood Watch Freestyle” (unreleased)–I think this was from the Yadibox sessions.  Sometimes me and Nico just throw on a beat and empty out our rhyme books.  This was one of those instances over an Alchemist instrumental.  On second listen, we’re lyrically dropping some deep shit for a throwaway mixtape song.  Nico KILLS this jawn:  “Pockets depressed with I.O.U’s, and bookies and loan sharks like ‘I know you’.”  That shit gives me the chills.

8.  Zilla Rocca “One Crazy Night”–This is obviously the sample source for Gnarls Barkley’s “Crazy” taken from the soundtrack for “The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly” if I remember correctly.  I used the technique of writing the first things that came to mind over this beat, so this whole thing was probably written and recorded start to finish in under a half hour.  I’m really lazy. 

9.  Zilla Rocca “Throw the Water On Them Freestyle”–Jeff posted this beat when the Busta single first dropped earlier this summer and dared a rapper to get busy on it.  Two months later, I answered the call.  Truthfully, I could’ve killed this one a bit better and maybe added a hook to break up the 92 bars.  Busta owns this one though–that line about staying fresher than dudes up in a Cressida is bananas!

Maybe the two of em can get a reality show together like I Love New York, the pops can be like Sister Patterson, and Amy can choose which crack head loving freak she’d rather marry, Flav attracted alotta strippers, so I guess Amy’s show will have alotta fellow crackheads, aspiring actors, pimps…and very rich and etasblished black men…(STEREOTYPE ALERT) because rich black men just love them some crackhead white women…

They can call the show…JEOPARDY….

….yup, Jeopardy…and Dennis Rodman should win it…I mean who else would be worthy?

Of course he’d have to dump her and go on to have his own reality love show, but his would be like Tila Tequila’s where he has men AND women all fighting for the heart of the D-Rod…Personally, I wouldn’t watch it, but with all of the bullshit that’s currently infesting our idiots boxes, I don’t see how Amy & D-Rod’s shows would be out of place, VH1 would eat em up and play them back to back all day everyday just like they do every thing else…

And honestly, I wouldn’t even want those shows on VH1, too crowded…I’d highly recommend putting both shows on the Discovery Channel…

All jokes aside, I hope Amy can get herself together because that last album BANGED, so I can only imagine what kind of music she can produce w/o the ROC (no offense to Jay-Z cuz he ripped hat Rehab remix)…

Everyone seems to know a lot about Amy Winehouse’s imprisoned husband Blake Fielder-Civil….particuarly as Amy seems to be hell-bent on not letting us forget that he’s ‘innocent and going to be coming home in two weeks’. She already has a tattoo above her left breast of a little pocket which says ‘Blake’s’ above it….she is one dedicated wife!…(What if he really divorces you Amzzzz…..!?)

Many of you will not have failed to recognise Amy’s heart-shaped hair piece splashed all over the press in the last few months. It looks good in her hive and is yet another dedication to ‘her Blake incarcerated’…the funny thing is I think the hair clip looks almost as big as her tiny face!

Anyway…I had the opportunity to see the Blake clip in all it’s glory when my friend ordered one the other day. (She has a boyfriend with the surname Blake and is an obsessed Amy fan….so this accessory was probably made for her…although to people who don’t know her she probably looks dangerously close to an Amy Winehouse groupie) These little hairpins and broches are created courtsey of Hetty and Dave, a website set up and run by Zo Zo Gabor. If you’re not a fan of Wino (and there are probably are a lot of Amz-haters out there, especially the fan she clobbered on Saturday at Glastonbury…too right as well….no one should mess with a hive!) there is still something for you at Hetty and Dave. They are fans of the nautical theme and have many cute anchor broaches for sale, as well as hangbags, necklaces and purses. GO AND LOOK NOW!

We are so use to calling this guy scum, dirt bag and Junkie, but we don’t know a lot about him. What we do know about him is that he managed to bang a top model, (Kate Moss) has a huge drug problem and that he writes music that we have never heard.

What if the Baby Shambles lead singer really cares about others and especially about saving his life? Pete took to the Soccer field today at the Millwall Football Club in London for some Celebrity Matchup, (English Celebs That is). Looks like Pete is clearly trying to clean up this mess what he calls his life.

We are sure at one point in his life, (Before all this mess) he was a very talented musicain but it seems that when some people achieve some level of fame they don’t know how to handle it and it spirals out of control. Pete’s good friend and mutiple Grammy Winner Amy Whinhouse is an example. Trouble always seems to find the most talented people and ruin their careers.

We love that Pete is doing this all for charity it is about time he gave back to to people. We hope he continues along this road and stay away from all things TOXIC.
