Não existe nenhum outro filme que eu tenha assistido mais do que a saga Guerra nas Estrelas e também eu nunca vi um vilão mais respeitado e amado do que o Darth Vader.

As fotos são excelentes, o vídeo é um verdadeiro delírio e o fundo de Requiem for a Dream é um show à parte.

Some great pics surfaced at Sir Steves Guide of two new Cinema Scenes!  No word yet on when we can expect to find them, but here’s what we’ll see:

First off is Anakin’s yellow Starfighter as seen in Revenge of the Sith – the set is titled “Attack on the Invisible Hand”.

As well, we are treated to Jango Fett’s Slave I as seen in Attack of the Clones – this set is named “Escape from Kamino”.

I remember, as a child, watching VHS tapes of the original three Star Wars movies. I remember the magic, the wonder, and the depth that was present in that triple masterpiece. There’s no small wonder that the Star Wars saga has inspired more fanfiction, sold more merchandise, and produced more spinoff material than any other creative work in history.

It is due to the saga’s magic, then, that it is subject to such tortures today.

It began with the ‘earlier’ three Star Wars movies: The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, and Revenge of the Sith. These three seemed wrong to me in some way, but I couldn’t quite put my finger on it. I simply shrugged, appreciated the wonderful CG effects, and resolved that it was due to seeing the first three movies at such a formative age that this uneasy knot twisted in my gut as I watched Anakin, the plucky hero, deliver trite lines and hit on a girl easily ten years his senior.

Then things got bad. The first taste I got was Star Wars: Battlefront. This video game was great, in terms of video games of its time. I remember many, many wonderful hours spent sniping my brother’s big droid head as he whined and punched me in the shoulder. Battlefront was a great video game, but I could taste a distinct change in the feel of the saga, if that was how you could say it.

The first three movies had been gritty, real things. The robots fell apart and made wisecracks, the heroes often depended upon the support of others and luck to succeed, and most importantly, they failed. This was replaced by a shining, clean, antiseptic Disney world perfectly suited to wide-eyed children with a sweet tooth for CG graphics and storylines as deep as a rain puddle.

The characters in the first three movies tried hard, they didn’t always cut it, and death was a very real part of the story. Obi-Wan dies because he cannot rejoin the group as they escape the Death Star, Luke loses his hand in a duel with Vader that ultimately reduces him to tears, and even Vader himself dies in the end of the movie after it is revealed that he is the hero. These movies were about lost causes, hope, struggle and redemption found for someone who seemed to be far beyond human feeling.

Contrast this with the most recent three, a whitewashed and generic action-smash-up trilogy that adopts only as much Star Wars as is necessary to keep the name. Death is even more common in these three than in the first movies, but it does so with such shocking blandness that they might as well be cardboard cutouts falling down. Obi-Wan Kenobi, Darth Maul, Jango Fett, then (with a shockingly casual swish) Count Dooku, General Grievous, Mace Windu and all but a handful of the Jedi in the galaxy. Many of these characters are killed in the same movie in which they are introduced, and aside from those required by the first three’s plotline there are no thematic additions.

Anyone who still contends that George Lucas did not steal the first three movies has a staggering truckload of horrible screenwriting and ‘vision’ by Lucas to explain away, and things only get more difficult when you move into The Clone Wars.

An atrocious and hackneyed caricature of Star Wars, the science is almost completely nonexistent in favor of dramatic muscle-flexing and badassery. Even Yoda, once a wise and somber character, cannot be allowed to die a peaceful death. Instead he is resurrected as a calm-but-badass Jedi who plays games with diplomats and kills without hesitation. I have to wonder if he would ever refuse a double-dare.

In short, Star Wars is begging for death. Any geek with respect for plot, depth and screenplay will simply deny that anything after Return of the Jedi is canon.

Hinter dem zwar durchaus passenden aber doch etwas uninspirierten Namen “Weapons Factory” verbirgt sich eine der wohl besten Folgen der gesamten Serie. Und das liegt nicht nur an der Qualität der Animation (ich weis, ich wiederhole mich), die inzwischen – zumindest was die Landschaft, die Schiffte, die Droiden, die Waffen (also so ziemlich alles mit Ausnahme der Figuren) auf dem besten Weg ist, Pixar-Niveau zu erreichen. Wie sehr die Animateure (nein, nicht die Vorturner in den Ferienclubs, sondern jene Personen, die CW machen!) auf Details achten, sieht man zum Beispiel auch daran, dass sogar die “Schnittstelle”, die Barriss Offee in den Fels schneidet “abkühlt” und von orange in  rot übergeht.

Und es liegt auch nicht nur an der Musik von Kevin Kiner, die sich im Gegensatz zur ersten Staffel bisher stark am Stil von John Williams anlehnt ohne ihn wirklich zu kopieren. Jimmy Mac wird es freuen!

Die Folge setzt fort, wo “Landing at Point Rain” aufgehört hat: Obi-Wan und Ki Adi Mudi sind weg und Anakin und Ahsoka sollen die Droidenfabrik von Poggle dem Geringeren (auch nach 7 Jahren klingt der Name für mich irgendwie ziemlich krank – aber was soll’s) in Schutt und Asche legen. Interessant ist in diesem Zusammenhang, dass die Kleidung der beiden Jedi am Ende der letzten Folge ziemlich verdreckt war und nun wieder sauber ist, was meine Theorie bestärkt, dass Jedi ihre Kleidung immer gleich palettenweise kaufen, da es dann Mengenrabatt gibt (oder es handelt sich einfach um einen kleinen Regiefehler?!). Ebenfalls interessant ist, dass Anakin und Ahsoka hier zu Beginn ziemlich heftig aneinander krachen, was zwar in Hinblick auf das Ende der Folge Sinn macht, in dieser Heftigkeit aber doch etwas überrascht. Bin gespannt, ob das ein Vorzeichen für die Zukunft ist.

Jedenfalls treffen wir in dieser Episode wieder auf Luminara Unduli, die humorfreie Zone des SW Universums und auf ihren Padawan Barriss Offee, die sich zwar problemlos 200 Kreuzungen in einem Labyrinth merken kann, dafür aber heillos überfordert ist, wenn es darum geht, was zu tun ist, wenn man in einem Panzer sitzt und dringend einen Reaktor (der übrigens eine interessante Ähnlichkeit mit jenem des zweiten Todessterns aufweist!) zerstören muss. Mit Luminara und Barriss hatte Anakin übigens schon in dem Prä-Episode II Roman “The Approaching Storm” zu tun, was vermutlich die Begrüßung erklärt.

Ferner feiern die taktischen Droiden in Person von TX-21 ihre Rückkehr in die Serie. Dieser kann zwar Geonosianisch und sich somit mit Poggle unterhalten (C-3PO wäre wohl stolz), zeichnet sich aber sonst nicht durch besondere Intelligent aus:

Das Labyrinth unterhalb der Waffenfabrik erinnert mich übrigens mit seinen irgendwie organischen Strukturen und den an den Wänden hängenden Geonosianern an jene Szenen aus “Aliens”, als Ripley in die Katakomben des Atmosphärenwandlers steigt um Newt zu retten. Und nachdem ja bereits die kleine “Numa” eine Anspielung auf dieses Mädchen war, ist dieser Vergleich vielleicht gar nicht so weit hergeholt. Insgesamt sind diese Szenen durchaus spannend gemacht.

Die Geonosianer scheinen sich übrigens von Menschenfleisch zu ernähren, oder es hat schon einmal jemand versucht, den “Keller” zu durchwandern und ist daran gescheitert – jedenfalls sieht man in einer Szene ein Skelett am Boden liegen (rechts neben Ahsoka):

Jetzt aber zum Wichtigsten und zur vielleicht besten Szene der bisherigen Serie: der Explosion der Waffenfabrik. Jene, etwa 30 Sekunden von dem Moment an, als Ahsoka die Waffen des Supertanks abfeuert, bis zu jenem Augenblick als Anakin und Luminara in den Krater hinab starren kann man einfach nur als großartig bezeichnen. Die Geräusche der Explosion und der einstürzenden Fabrik sind gedämpft, die Bilder laufen fast in Zeitlupe ab und die Musik (und was für eine Musik!) trägt die gesamte Szene! Als ich diese Bilder zum ersten Mal sah war ich absolut davon überzeugt, dass dies das Ende von Ahsoka (und Barriss) ist! Absolut! Beim näheren Betrachten ist das natürlich Schwachsinn, denn es macht wohl keinen Sinn, eine komplett neue Figur zu erschaffen und mühsam zu animieren, um sie 17 Minuten später auch schon wieder sterben zu lassen. Aber beim ersten Mal Ansehen dieser Szene war ich vollkommen davon überzeugt, dass die beiden tot sind und ich war ja geradezu geschockt!

Wenn sich GL und Dave Filoni dazu entschließen sollten Ahsoka tatsächlich sterben zu lassen (und ich bin mir zunehmend sicher, dass sie das nicht tun werden!), so möchte ich, dass ihr Tod genauso ablaufen wird: schnell, vollkommen überraschend und ohne ihn direkt zu zeigen oder lange Abschiedsszenen ala “Es tut mir leid Meister, ich war nicht stark genug!. Nein, es tut MIR leid, Ahsoka, ich konnte Dich nicht retten, aber ich werde nie wieder jemanden verlieren, der mir etwas bedeutet!”

Denn wie sagt Luminara am Ende so treffend zu Anakin: “I am prepared to let my student go. Can you say the same?”

Verspätet – aufgrund eines PC-Absturzes – die  Rezension zur zweiten The Clone Wars-Folge – Cargo of Doom (deutsche Titel gibt es diesmal anscheinend keine mehr – schade!). Die Episode spielt unmittelbar nach der ersten und bildet den zweiten Teil der Cad-Bane-Trilogie. Bane entkam damals mit einem Jedi-Holocron aus dem Jedi-Tempel. Nun befindet er sich mit der Jedi-Geisel Bolla Ropal auf einem Separatistenschiff. Ropal soll ihm das Holocron zu öffnen, damit Bane es mit einem Kristall speisen kann, der eine Liste machtsensitiver Kinder enthält, welche er wiederum Ropal abgenommen hat. Ropal weigert sich und Bane tötet ihn kurzerhand.

Doch Anakins Flotte ist ihm auf den Fersen. Mit einer Horde AT-TEs landet er auf dem Separatistenschiff – ja ihr habt recht gelesen, landet. Denn Anakin nutzt die Transporter, wie schon im Film, alternativ, diesmal als Landefähren und Entergeräte in Einem. Bane verlässt die Kommandobrücke kurz bevor die Jedi diese stürmen und lockt sie darauf in einen Hinterhalt. Es gelingt ihm, die Jedi zu verwirren, und zu fliehen. Ahsoka verfolgt ihn, doch Bane hat vorausgeplant und lässt die Falle zuschnappen. Er nimmt Ahsoka gefangen und droht Anakin damit, sie in den luftleeren Raum zu schiessen, wenn er nicht kooperiere und das Holocron öffne. Anakin bleibt keine Wahl und er willigt ein. Bane kann fliehen, wird jedoch von zwei Klonen gefasst. Derweil explodiert das Schiff langsam und die Truppen der Republik müssen augenblicklich vom Schiff. Da sieht Anakin, wie Bane niedergeschossen wird. Der Klon, der ihn niedergeschossen hatte, gibt an, dass er Bane das Holocron nicht hatte abnehmen können. Kurz nach der Flucht explodiert das Separatistenschiff.

Die Folge ist wiederum nicht schlecht, wenn auch nicht ganz so gut, wie der Vorgänger. Dafür hat diese Folge mehr Witz und Pep als die erste. Das Hin- und Herschieben des Kommandos zweier Droiden ist echt komisch. Was mich jedoch leicht störte, war die Brutalität des Mordes an Bolla Ropal. Prinzipiell begrüsse ich eine härtere Gangart für die zweite Staffel, aber dann sollte man sich doch zwischen “Kindersendung” und “gute Geschichten” entscheiden. Und dann haut bitte auch gleich alle für die Serie produzierten Plastiklichtschwerter aus China weg! Top war hingegen das Entermanöver mit den AT-TEs. Wie bereits schon mit der Besteigung der Klippe auf Teth mit AT-TEs im Film und dem 90-Grad-Drehen des Sternenkreuzers Ende erste Staffel beweisen die Macher Kreativität – und das gefällt mir. Dass die Jedi jedoch eine Liste mit machtsensitiven Kindern haben und die dann auch noch so leicht zugänglich halten, finde ich aber ziemlich gewagt.

Und wer meine Vermutung für Cad Banes “Tod” hören will (markieren): Cad Bane ist nicht tot, sondern als Klonkrieger verkleidet mitgeflogen. Deswegen sieht man “Fake-Bane” auch nur so “ungenau” sterben.

Wie man’s macht, ist’s falsch!

Bestand bei Folge 4 “Senate Spy” noch die Gefahr, dass einem in der Mitte der Folge langsam der Kopf auf die Brust sinkt und man sanft einschlummert, ohne bis zum Nachspann noch besonders viel zu verpassen, so genügt es bei Folge 5 “Landing at Point Rain” schon, nur einmal zu blinzeln und schon versäumt man 3 zerstörte Gunships, 7 erschossene Klone und 11 verkohlte Geonosianer.

The “Wars” are back! Und wie!

Wer das Ende von Episode II mochte (nein, nicht die Hochzeit zwischen Padme und Anakin, sondern die Schlacht um Geonosis), der wird auch diese Folge von CW mögen, dann das ist es worum es hier geht und so ziemlich nur um das. Same planet, same procedure!

Was man daran auch erkennt ist die Art, mit der die Republik mit Planeten umgeht, die sie befriedet hat: scheinbar belassen sie keine Truppen dort, die darauf achten, dass es nach Beendigung der Kämpfe auch weiterhin mit rechten Dingen zugeht, sondern sie vertrauen (wohl aus Ressourcenmangel) darauf, dass die befreiten Völker wohl ausreichend dankbar und zivilisiert sind und nicht bei der erst besten Gelegenheit wieder zum Feind überlaufen, oder von diesem erneut besetzt werden.

Nun ja, mit Geonosis hat das wohl nicht so ganz funktioniert.

Insofern schließt diese Episode auch an die vorherige an, in der Padme unter Einsatz ihres Lebens und ihr Dekoltees’ die Pläne von Poggles neuer Droidenfabrik sicherstellen konnte.

Was die Animation betrifft, so schlägt diese Folge alle bisher gezeigten um Welten. Nie zuvor gab es in CW so viel Bewegung und so viel Action gleichzeitig auf dem Schirm zu sehen. Der Vergleich mit der Schlacht um Geonosis aus AOTC passt nicht nur in Bezug auf die Handlung, sondern auf die Umsetzung der Kampfszenen! Dies führt auch dazu, dass “Landing at Point Rain” die bisher mit Abstand “brutalste” Folge ist. Sah man bisher hauptsächlich “nur” Klone sterben und Droiden zerhackt werden, so werden hier nun auch Geonosianer erschossen, zerstückelt und sogar gegrillt. Diese sind zwar potthässlich, aber nichts destotrotz Wesen aus Fleisch und Blut.

Sind sie nicht attraktiv?

Für wirklich junge Kinder ist diese Folge daher vielleicht weniger geeignet!

Aber es gibt noch eine Reihe weiterer Premieren in dieser Folge: erstmals tritt Ki Adi Mundi in seiner animierten Form auf. Ich finde ja, er sieht mit seinen Kulleraugen viel weniger respekteinflößend aus als “in echt”:

Weiters sehen wir erstmals die republikanischen Gunships mit den Geschützkugeln an der Seite, die zwar in Episode II waren, in der ersten Staffel von CW jedoch auf wundersame Weise irgendwie verschwanden. Wobei ich diese Kugeln ja für einen strategischen Irrsinn halte: viel mehr auf dem Präsentierteller kann man ja wohl gar nicht sitzen! Arme Hunde, die da drin Dienst tun müssen:

Schließlich sieht man in dieser Folge unsere Helden zum ersten Mal dreckig und verwundet. Vielleicht legt sich Ahsoka jetzt doch endlich neue Fetzen zu.

Schließlich feiern in dieser Folge Waxer und Boil, die das kleine Twi-lek Mädchen in “Innocents of Ryloth” gerettet haben und Luminara Unduli ihren Einstand in der zweiten Staffel. Letztere hat immer noch nicht den kleinsten Funken Humor, aber irgendwie mag ich sie trotzdem.

Schmunzeln musste ich über die Szene in der Obi-Wan und seine Truppen im Gunship stehen und sich an den Haltegriffen festklammern, während das Schiff heftig hin und her schaukelt. Erinnert mich ein bißchen an meine täglichen Fahrten mit der U-Bahn:

Schließlich sei noch die Szene erwähnt, in der Anakin und Ahsoka Captain Rex recht plötzlich und überraschend von der Festungsmauer bugsieren. Hier sieht man, dass die kleine Togruta schon recht gut auf den spontanen Irrsinn ihres Meisters eingestellt ist. So etwas wäre wohl mit Obi-Wan nicht möglich gewesen!

            One of the benefits of writing this column is the mail I receive from readers.  I’ve been surprised, however, by a recent spate of missives from folks seeking my counsel in their personal affairs.  After all, I’m not an advice columnist.
            Or am I?  
            As I see it, there are really just three requirements for an advice column:  (1) Space in a newspaper.  Check!  (2) Questions from people seeking guidance.  Check!  (3) A self-righteous, didactic crackpot to answer those questions.  Check and double check!  Let’s light this candle!

            I’m a 38-year-old man.  While I was at the SciFi Expo last year, I met the Padmé to my Anakin.  But recently, she made the jump to hyperspace and is hinting hard about marriage.  The thought of moving out of the Jedi Temple (Mom’s basement) gives me tummy bubbles.  The walls of this relationship are closing in like the garbage compactor in a Death Star detention block.  Help!  –Jittery Jedi

            Help you I can, yes.  A sewing room in her basement your mother desires, but in her way your bed with Ewok sheets is.  Always in motion is the future.  Of doing your laundry, tired is she.  Adulthood and marriage, fear them not, and a momma’s boy, be no longer.  Choice of you by girl I will understand never, but die alone you will, with action figures as only companions, if this one chance you miss.

            Please settle an ongoing dispute my wife and I are having over the upbringing of our only child.   We both love our son “Roger” very much, but we have vastly differing ideas about how he should be raised.  I want him to try out for football and engage in other manly pursuits like mixed martial arts cage matches, ding-dong-ditch, the Sun Dance ritual, and belching the alphabet.  My wife, however, is adamant that Roger must spend all his free time doing nothing but scherenschnitte, collecting Hummel figurines, and perfecting his Trout Almondine recipe for the state fair.  He recently refused to watch “True Grit” with me because the Bravo Network was airing a “Project Runway” marathon.  His classmates have started calling him “Baron Dainty Von Prancengiggle.”  Now, I don’t know what that means, but I’m certain it’s not a compliment.  I’m scared.  Am I too late to raise him into swarthy, high-fiving, NASCAR manhood?  Is there anything I can do?   –Desperate Dad

Dear Jimmy,
            After a whirlwind courtship, I recently became engaged to the man of my dreams.  The problem is that my parents despise him.  Whenever I try to emphasize my fiancé’s good qualities, they only point out his flaws.  For example, when I describe him as a courageous man of action, Dad mocks him for his fear of flying.  When I praise him for serving our country as a member of a crack commando unit, my mother condemns him for being sent to prison by a military court.  “But it was for a crime he didn’t commit!” I’ll say, only to have Daddy immediately remind me, for the millionth time, how my future husband and his three friends promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the Los Angeles underground, how they’re still wanted by the government, how they survive as soldiers of fortune, blah, blah, blah… 
            All the conflict is stressing me out, and my fiancé is growing tired of all this jibba-jabba.  How can I persuade my folks to give this marriage their blessing? –Wanna-Be Mrs. T
 
Dear Wanna-Be,
            Simply arrange to have your parents abducted by a band of ruthless Bolivian drug smugglers (check Craigslist.com) or a bizarre mind-control cult (check Scientology.org) and instruct the kidnappers to hold Mom and Dad hostage in a heavily-guarded desert bunker.  Then have your fiancé and his friends infiltrate the compound by posing as renegade arms dealers with military-grade weaponry for sale.  After the enigmatic, sinister leader of the cult/cartel sees through the ruse, his army of henchmen will chase your Mr. Right and his three confederates to an abandoned mine nearby.  Once barricaded inside, they can use a rusted mining cart, some pipes, and a crate full of discarded dynamite to construct a crude tank.  Blasting their way back into the villains’ lair, they free your parents and bring them home.  Having won your parents’ blessing, you and their now-beloved son-in-law-to-be jump in the van and go get on the bridal registry at Pier 1 Imports.  Your mother prepares a baked custard with a layer of caramelized sugar on the bottom to give to her rescuers as a thank you gift.  This is sure to delight their cigar-chomping leader; he loves it when a flan comes together.

The computer animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars occurs in-between Episode II: Attack of the Clones and Episode III: Revenge of the Sith of the live-action feature films, following the Jedi and Clone Troopers fighting in the war against the Separatists, throughout the galaxy. As in the prequel films, our main character is Anakin Skywalker, but the show also branches out beyond stories about Anakin or Obi-Wan Kenobi. Some episodes focus much more (or entirely) on other Jedi briefly glimpsed in the prequels, while others put the Clone Troopers center stage, giving us their perspective on life in the trenches.

The series got off to a rocky start – first with The Clone Wars movie, which should never have been put in theaters in the first place (it was originally intended to be the first few episodes of the series, and it felt like it), and then with the first couple of episodes. Right from the start, it was clear that the show had some very strong elements which were mirrored by some very weak elements – the latter most notably via the use of humor in the show. Comic relief and moments of levity are fine and welcome, but the comedy here was mostly provided by the Battle Droids, and it was incredibly frustrating and off-putting.

Recordemos que este juego será el MMORPG que reemplazará al ya antiguo Star Wars: Gallaxies, un increíble universo paralelo que hasta el día de hoy puedes seguir jugando junto a miles de otros participantes que aspiran unirse a las filas de los Jedi o los Sith.

Los acontecimientos de Star Wars: The Old Republic están basados en la historia desarrollada por la serie RPG Knights of the Old Republic, lo cual acontece varios siglos antes que lo que es mostrado en las películas de Star Wars.

Para variar, los Sith luchan con los Jedi, la república se hace “amiga” de los Sith, luego los Jedi se retiran con la cola entre las piernas…. y en eso estamos cuando comienza Star Wars: The Old Republic que, por lo demás, aún no aclaran si será finalmente un juego gratuito financiado con micro transacciones, lo cual sería francamente espectacular.

Nun ja, was soll ich sagen? Zum einen zeugt es durchaus von der Kreativität der Macher von Clone Wars einmal eine Folge zu zeigen, in der es nicht um Schlachten, Kämpfe und Laserschwerter (oder Kopfgeldjäger) geht (also alles was das “Wars” in Star- und Clone Wars ausmacht), zum anderen habe ich die starke Befürchtung, dass “Senate Spy” (zumindest für mich) die schwächste Folge dieser Staffel (wenn nicht der gesamten Serie) sein wird!

Versteht mich nicht falsch, obwohl ich einen guten Laserschwertkampf (so wie wir alle) wohl zu schätzen weiß, bin aber auch einer spannenden Geschichte nicht abgeneigt, die die “andere Seite” eines Krieges zeigt, nämlich jene, in der es um Pakte, Konspirationen, Verrat und Spionage geht! Doch genau hier liegt des Problem dieser Folge: “Senate Spy” ist schlicht und einfach LANGWEILIG ist und das ist so ziemlich das Schlimmste, das man einer SW Geschichte vorwerfen kann.

Die Handlung beginnt ähnlich wie “Hostage Crisis” damit, dass Anakin und Padme ein bisschen Zeit miteinander verbringen wollen. Was letztere betrifft, so betreibt sie in dieser Folge ein exzessives “Kleidungs-Recycling” (kann sich eine Senatorin so etwas leisten, wenn sie ihren Ruf verteidigen will?): Zu Beginn trägt sie das gleiche Outfit wie am Anfang von “Blue Shadow Virus”: durch etliche Nahaufnahmen und die Tatsache, dass ich seit Kurzem über einen 24 Zoll Bildschirm verfüge kann ich nun übrigens meinen Verdacht von letztem Frühjahr endgültig bestätigen, dass es sich bei dem Fummel tatsächlich um ein bauchfreies Teil handelt.

Später trägt sie dann jenes Kleid (inkl. Kopfschmuck), dass sie auch schon in “Dooku captured” getragen hat. Aber zu Padmes Outfit komme ich weiter unten ohnehin noch.

Womit ich nicht klar komme, ist Anakins Erzählung zu Beginn, dass er auf einem Frachter nach Coruscant gekommen ist. Habe ich hier was verpasst, aber wann befand sich der Jedi je auf einem Frachter? Seltsam!

Ach ja, Padme: in manchen Szenen entsteht der Eindruck dass sich ihre Haarfarbe ins Lilane verändert hat, ich hoffe mal, das ist das Licht, und nicht der Versuch, Anakin zu überraschen, denn die Farbe steht ihr nicht wirklich:

Ganz witzig fand ich die Szene, in der sich Anakin beinahe über seine Beziehung zu der Senatorin verplappert und ihm das seltsame Blick von Obi-Wan und Yoda einbringt. Und ich bin mir nicht sicher, aber ich denke, dass Anakin Padme im Gang des Senats einen Klaps auf den Hintern gibt. Wenn dem tatsächlich so ist, so ist das vermutlich das Anzüglichste, das man in SW je bewundern durfte!

Apropos Gang: durch diesen laufen so ziemlich sämtliche Senatoren, die im Rahmen der ersten Staffel zu sehen waren, inklusive Orn Free Taa und seine beiden Twi-lek Mätressen.

Ansonsten ist zu vermelden, dass man in dieser Folge erstmals den großen Senatsraum mit seinen Gondeln in animierter Form sieht (und die Qualität der Animation ist einer der wenigen Höhepunkte der Episode), dass die Hasendroiden endlich eine vernünftige Beschäftigung als Kellner und Kofferträger gefunden haben (dabei werden sie wenigstens nicht weggesprengt) und dass sich in der Bibliothek auf Cato Neimoidia offensichtlich echte Bücher befinden (wer hätte gedacht, dass die Neimoidianer so fleißig sind, tatsächlich umzublättern – naja, vielleicht macht das ja auch der Mechno Sessel für sie?!):

Aber kommen wir zum Wesentlichen (nein, nicht Padmes’ Dekolleté, obwohl wir dazu auch noch kommen): es ist für mich durchaus seltsam, dass Padme so einfach nach Cato Neimoidia reisen kann, ohne bei der Ankunft gleich gefoltert, erschossen oder zumindest in Gewahrsam genommen wird (und das, obwohl man das “Wohlwollen” der Neimoidianer gegenüber der Senatorin sowohl in Episode I als auch II zur Genüge erkennen konnte). Auch scheint es niemanden zu stören, dass sie unbehindert im Regierungsgebäude herumwandern kann, um alle möglichen Gespräche zu belauschen und Datenkarten zu mopsen.

Mit der Figur des Rush Clovis wurde ein neuer Charakter in die Serie eingebaut, der mir beinahe so unsympathisch ist, wie Dr. Vindi. Nicht nur, dass seine hündische Verknalltheit in Padme nach spätestens einigen Minuten penetrant zu nerven beginnt, so ist er auch mit seiner Rolle als großer Verräter der Republik hoffnungslos überfordert. Hier hätte man einen echten, skrupellosen Schurken zeigen sollen und nicht so einen hilflosen Halbdodel.

Ein Mann für alle Fälle?

All das trägt dazu bei, dass eigentlich nie Spannung aufkommt. Alle Herausforderungen, denen sich die Figuren gegenüber sehen werden in kurzer Zeit und ohne große Überraschungen und Anstrengungen überwunden, Vielleicht wäre es besser gewesen, man hätte die Handlung auf zwei Folgen aufgeteilt, um so die Zeit zu haben, ein bisschen mehr Spannung und etwas von dem “Katz und Mausspiel” einzubringen, das gute Spionagegeschichten oft ausmacht.

Ach ja, Padme (fast hätte ich es vergessen): in dieser Folge trägt sie das Kleid, das man schon im Trailer bewundern durfte und es steht ihr richtig gut, auch wenn ich glaube, dass man ihren Busen bewusst verkleinert hat, um Rücksicht auf das junge Publikum zu nehmen, denn in anderen Folgen (als sie Hochgeschlosseneres trägt), gab es da schon mehr Holz vor der Hütte:

Vermutlich wurde ihr Busen, wie schon der von Carrie Fisher bei Episode IV mit Klebeband festgehalten, da wie GL schon damals sagte: im Weltall gibt es keine Unterwäsche!

En 1977 un chico con camisa a cuadros estrenó una película que causó una revolución en cuanto a efectos especiales y que remodeló la ciencia ficción como se la conocía hasta entonces. Se desvió de aspectos puramente científicos para proporcionarnos disfrute, adrenalina, historias fantásticas y merchandising a precios abusivos. ‘Star Wars’  hacía historia en la ídem del cine.

Luego, con el paso de los años, George Lucas llegó a fundar un malvado imperio galáctico conjunto de empresas y adelantos técnicos que han ayudado a formar el panorama cinematográfico de la actualidad, dejando en manos de otras personas la dirección de ‘El imperio Contraataca’ y ‘El retorno del Jedi’, las que terminaron de formar una complicadísima mitología y una gran bolsa financiera que ha mantenido a un hombre que no ha sabido hacer otra cosa más que repetirnos que  ‘Star Wars’ es guay, ‘Star Wars’ mola.  Podríamos decir que George Lucas es un tipo que lleva vendiéndonos la moto (o el Ala- X) durante tres generaciones, sacando cómics y novelas muchas veces estúpidas o aburridas (aunque hay alguna buena) y proporcionándonos, a principios de siglo, una trilogía bastante desigual que no acabó de convencer a todo el mundo. ¿Qué le quedaba hacer a este hombre para seguir engordando sus arcas, cual tío gilito espacial? Ya no cuela eso de sacar nosecuántas ediciones en DVD, (más o menos lo que hace la editorial Minotauro cada año con El señor de los Anillos), así que ha saltado el rumor de que podría estar preparándose una nueva trilogía de Star Wars!!!!!……………. ¿Silencio? ¿Por qué? Ah, ¿que ya se sabía? Y es que esto de los nuevos episodios de Star Wars tiene más años que las “arpargatas” del maestro Yoda.

He confeccionado una pequeña lista sobre los puntos a tratar sobre esta noticia, y su origen, espero que os guste.

1. - Al igual que aquellos actores que se comprometen con la Marvel para representar a alguno de sus cinco mil personajes (No entiendo cómo no se lían a tortas cada vez que aparece un malo, hay más competencia que en una ETT) todos aquellos que firmaron los contratos de la nueva trilogía de Star Wars vieron que había una cláusula  acerca de comprometerse a “trabajar en cualquier posible capítulo posterior de la saga“. Pocos meses después del estreno del Episodio 3 este detalle saltó a las noticias.
2. George Lucas asegura que la historia de este mundo fantástico lleva escrita desde la década de los setenta y que abarca un amplio abanico de historias y personajes, resaltando la presencia de NUEVE películas.
3. Y quí es cuando se pronuncian las palabras mágicas de todo friki: “Universo Expandido” y es que Star Wars es mucho más que lo que vimos en el cine. Hay historias para dar y tomar. Desde una amenaza interestelar que se presenta en Endor el día después de la destrucción de la estrella de la muerte (La tregua de Bakura, Martinez Roca), hasta toooodo el entrenamiento de Obi Wan Kenobi (en 22 “económicos” tomos de narración adolescente) pasando por las novelas de las guerras clon (Aquí hay algunas que se salvan).
4. Aun así, lo más gracioso es que los episodios VII, VIII y IX ¡YA EXISTEN! Publicados por la editorial Martinez Roca y actualmente descatalogados (os recomiendo Ebay, una buena nómina y paciencia) nos hablan de lo que ocurre en la galaxia después de la muerte del emperador, los últimos rescoldos del imperio y un malo tan carismático como desesperante: el gran almirante Thrawn.



5. Estas novelas, conocidas con el nombre de “Trilogía de la Nueva República” fueron escritas por  Timothy Zahn, autor ganador del premio Hugo y el único autor de las novelas de ‘Star Wars’ que tuvo libertad absoluta. Así que el creador de términos como ‘Coruscant’, el planeta central de la galaxia, es este escritor y no tito Lucas.



6. Además ha salido el rumor de que se dejarían las tareas de dirección en dos de los mejores amigos de George Lucas: Steven Spielberg y Francis Ford Coppola. ¿Nueva noticia? Pues no. Spielberg dirigió dos escenas del Episodio 3, concretamente las del duelo entre Anakin y Obi Wan en Mustafar. y Coppola dirigió un cortometraje en los años ochenta escrito por George Lucas titulado ‘Captain Eo’, protagonizado por Michael Jackson.



7. Pero si algo es muy creíble, es que George Lucas quiera hacer esta nueva trilogía (o reestrenar las anteriores) en el formato de moda, el 3D. Yo sigo sin comprender qué hay de novedoso en algo que salga de la pantalla amenazando con sacarte los ojos, ¿Es que sin 3D ‘Up’ no emocionaba tanto? ¿Tendrá ‘Avatar’ algo que ver? Las noticias hablaban de que Spielberg, Peter Jackson y Lucas vieron billetes estrellitas con las nuevas cámaras del Tito Cameron.

En fin, la historia sobre si George Lucas continuará con aquello que una vez le dio fama es cíclica, como la bolsa, las relaciones amorosas y el continuo espacio-tiempo.  La pregunta, al igual que en las guerras o el nuevo fenómeno adolescente no es si llegará, sino cuándo y cómo lo hará.

Pd: si saco tiempo (que es lo que digo siempre) os haré un post sobre los episodios VII, VIII y IX. No esperéis gran cosa.

Sci-Fi aficionado Jake “Kar-El” Karlsruher: Let me first say that a fight of this epic-nitude could tear a hole in the Universe….or the Metaverse…or the Galactic Republic.

God: I’ll allow it.

Jake:  Good.  Then let me tackle the question, Neal. Now I have to ask, which Anakin?

Neal:  Well phrased.  Let’s use yellow-eyed, slay-all-the-younglings Anakin.

Jake:  Fair.  Well, Anakin’s got the whole Midichlorian thing going for him.  Allow me to level the playing field.  We’ll set the battle in the Mustafar Region, in a scene similar to that of the closing duel in Revenge of the Sith.

George Lucas: Granted.

Jake:  That way, Raven can get his surf on and Anakin can demonstrate both poor gymnastics and bad acting (“Don’t try it Anakin, I have the higher ground!”  “You underestimate my power”)

Neal: Mr. Kar-El, please stop free-associating and stay on topic: the fight, sir.

Jake: I apologize, I digress.  But, before we get to the fight, we need to examine each character’s motivation; a fighter is only as strong as his desire to win. Both Raven and Anakin are filled with passion.  Raven hates America, and wishes beyond all else to see its destruction.  Unfortunately for him we are in the Mustafar Region, not America.  However, he also feels a strong loyalty to his cause, the one that saved him from his troubled ways.  Skywalker, on the other hand, feels no special allegiance.  Throughout all of the new movies, Anakin is generally confused about his purpose (or maybe that’s just Haden Christiansen).

Haden Christiansen:  Heard that.

George Lucas: Can’t argue with facts, Haden.

Jake: If I may continue, George *he sulks*, I was going to get to the fight.  Raven will quickly find that his glass knives are useless; they will melt from the heat of the lava. Limited to only his spears, Raven quickly loses any advantage he held.  I’m going to give the edge to the guy that can move stuff with his mind.  After a couple triple back flips and poor dialogue, I see Anakin lopping Raven’s head off… and then the nuke goes off.

Neal: Uh-Oh, probably should have seen that coming

Warum müssen eigentlich alle neuen Staffeln immer im Herbst und dann auch noch immer alle gleichzeitig beginnen? Vor lauter “24-”, “Dr. House-” und diversen “CSIs” Schauen kommt man fast zu überhaupt nichts und dann ist auch noch in der Arbeit was zu tun. Wie soll man da in Ruhe bloggen können?

Aber darum geht es ja eigentlich gar nicht…

Und nur zur Sicherheit, bevor wir fortfahren: da die zweite Staffel bei uns erst Anfang November anläuft, ist das Folgende fast zwangsläufig voll mit SPOILERN!

Clone Wars geht also in die zweite Runde und wie schon vor einem Jahr mir einer Doppelfolge: “Holocron Heist” und “Cargo of Doom”

Das Überraschendste für mich war zunächst, dass diese beiden Folgen keine unmittelbaren Fortsetzungen der letzten Episode von Staffel eins sind. Man erfährt weder was mit Zirro dem Hutten weiter passiert, noch wie es dem Rest von Bane’s Gang ergangen ist (gut, ein bisschen was in diese Richtung brachten die Online Comics, die auf starwars.com im Laufe des Sommers erschienen sind, aber wirklich erhellend war das ja auch nicht).

Die einzige Konstante zwischen diesen drei Folgen ist somit die Figur von Cad Bane selbst (auch zwischen “Holocron Heist” und “Cargo of Doom” gibt es nicht wirklich einen fließenden Übergang, wie dies bisher bei den Mehrteilern meist der Fall war – mal sehen, ob dies die ganze Staffel so bleibt… Man kann sich zwar zusammenreimen, was da passiert ist, aber, da sind eben doch Lücken!).

Zu Beginn der ersten Episode sehen wir Felucia, das so aussieht wie ein ROTS, jedoch anders als in “The Force Unleashed” (aber vielleicht war Starkiller auch einfach in einer anderen Gegend, oder der Planet hat sich in den zwanzig Jahren zwischen den beiden Geschichten massiv verändert):

Ahsoka baut dort Mist und wird deshalb strafweise zum Bibliotheksdienst im Archiv des Jedi Tempels versetzt, wo wir auf die animierte Version von Jocasta Nu treffen, die etwa so aussieht wie Palpatine aussehen würde wenn er eine Frau wäre:

Interessant finde ich, woher Sidious weiss, dass ein solches Holocron wie er es haben möchte überhaupt existiert und sogar wo es zu finden ist. Immerhin sehen die ja von außen alle gleich aus und es stehen ja keine Titel darauf. Naja, vielleicht hat ihm Dooku das ja mitgeteilt, der dürfte ja Zugang zum “Vault” gehabt haben?!

Ansonsten treffen wir in dieser Folge eine Reihe von alten Bekannten. Neben Bane selbst sind so ziemlich alle Jedis aus der ersten Staffel zumindest irgendwann kurz zu sehen. Neben den obligatorischen Anakin, Obi-Wan und Ahsoka, sind dies auch Mace Windu, Yoda, Kit Fisto, Plo Koon und Aalya Secura:

Und sogar Luminara Unduli huscht in einer Szene kurz durchs Bild.

Und wir treffen mit Cato Parasitti (was für ein grenzgenialer Name!) auf eine Clawdite, jene Rasse von Gestaltwandlern zu der auch Zam Wessel aus Episode II gehörte. Scheinbar sehen die alle nicht besser aus:

Schließlich wäre noch zu vermelden, dass sich auch Cade Bane (ebenso wie Grievous) einen kleinen Roboter mit übersteigertem Ego hält (nicht, dass ihm das letztlich etwas nützen würde), dieser hier heißt Todo 360 und ist ab dem zweiten Mal Ansehen der Folge gar nicht mal mehr sooo nervig:

Etwas seltsam allerdings fand ich, dass Anakin und Obi-Wan, obwohl sie wissen, dass Bane hinter einem Holocron her ist, dann doch lieber in Richtung der Kommunikationszentrale laufen, anstatt im Safe, in dem die Holocrone lagern auf den Kopfgeldjäger zu warten. Zuerst dachte ich, dass sie Bane eine Falle stellen wollen, aber scheinbar doch nicht.

Obwohl das Drehbuch zu dieser Geschichte von Paul Dini stammt, der mit “Cloak of Darkness” meine Lieblingsfolge der ersten Staffel geschrieben hat, muss ich sagen, dass mir “Cargo of Doom” dann doch besser gefallen hat.

Darin sehen wir Ahsoka erstmals mit einer anderen Kleidung, nämlich einem roten Overall, der mir persönlich etwas zu einfach “umgesetzt” vorkommt (als hätten die Animateure einfach eine rote Textur auf ihren “gezeichneten” Körper aufgebracht). Aber wenigstens haben die Macher der Folge daran gedacht, ihr überhaupt etwas Anderes zum Anziehen zu geben, denn bauchfrei im Weltall führt bestimmt schnell zu argen Nierenschmerzen!

Ahsoka ganz in rot und nein, Bane ist nicht tot!

Außerdem erleben wir in dieser Folge gleich drei mal, dass Admiral Yularen Anakin widerspricht, bzw. nicht sehr glücklich darüber ist, unter ihm dienen zu dürfen/müssen. Wenn dieser Konflikt in den kommenden Folgen weiter aufgegriffen wird, könnte das interessant werden!

Optisch beeindruckend umgesetzt ist die Landung der AT-TEs AUF der feindlichen Fregatte und der Kampf zwischen Anakin und den “Seinen”, sowie Bane und den Droiden in der Schwerelosigkeit im Inneren des Schiffes. Wirklich gut gelungen!

Und die Szenen in denen Bolla Ropal gefoltert und letztlich ermordet wird, sind vermutlich für recht junge Sehen tatsächlich etwas hart. Die zweite Staffel wird tatsächlich dunkler. Die Szene, in der der Magma Droide seine Lanze in die Seite des Rodianers rammt, um zu prüfen, ob dieser tatsächlich tot ist erinnerte mich an die Kreuzigung Christi’s und an den Hauptmann Longinus, aber vielleicht interpretiere ich hier zu viel hinein.

Schließlich bleibt noch zu sagen, dass es der Kyber Kristall mit dieser Folge endgültig in den G-Level Kanon geschafft hat. Dieser Kristall war in den ersten drei Entwürfen des Drehbuchs zu Episode IV mehr oder weniger prominent vorhanden, verschwand mit der vierten Fassung und taucht in etwas anderer Form (und mit anderem Namen) im Buch “Spinter of the Mind’s Eye” wieder auf.

My son actually went online to put this set in his wish list! This is a true winner to give to any serious Lego brickmaster who knows ins and outs of star wars and have many other sets before. The politics of Star Wars are interesting.  The philosophy, though? 

I was watching Revenge of the Sith the other night, a tense and moving film filled with individuals in conflict.  Obviously Anakin is torn between what he wants and what he fears.  Padme loves Anakin but can’t believe who he’s become.  Obi Wan has to fight evil, though it is manifest in his pupil and friend.  The Jedi want to follow the Jedi-way, but evil is too powerful to be left alive that long. 

The prophecy, about the “chosen one”, is the one common theme in all of the movies.  Anakin is to restore balance to the force.  Balance is just the half-full way of describing this tension.  As Padme lies dying, she tells Obi Wan that there is good in Anakin.  Luke repeats this in Return of the Jedi, and ultimately, appealing to this shaft of goodness is what saves the galaxy. 

While I watched a few nights ago, Anakin Skywalker’s seduction by the Dark Side, I laid a finger on something that has always bothered me, a fundamental difference in philosophy between George Lucas and I.  For Anakin, there is no going back.  He never repents for what he has done, even at the end of Episode VI.  In Episode III, after disarming Master Wendu, leading to his death, Anakin’s whole being looks like he wishes he could repent.  “What have I done?” he cries out.  As though unable to control who he is or what circumstances limit him, the young Jedi hates who he is becoming yet boasts in it.  The wickedness in him is just as important, just as valid, as the good.  In the end of the story it is not a turning from his identity that causes the change, but the resurgence of a different part of his character. 

That is a hopeless, gnawing life.  The truth is, Anakin wasn’t good.  Neither was Darth Vader.  Goodness could only really come by acknowledging the wrong, and turning from it to something truly good outside himself.  Without that, there is no forgiveness, no redemption.  Without that, good versus evil is ultimately irrelevant.  Which matches the philosophy of the Jedi, who claim that “only the Sith [bad guys] deal in absolutes.”

Okay, this post isn’t actually about a cat, but I have the word stuck in my head as I just watched ‘Breakfast at Tiffanys’. I’d never seen it fully before and it was actually rather good! Although I have to say, that scene in Gossip Girl where Blair is like Holly looking for Cat, Nate is much better looking than Paul.
Talking of nice looking guys, here’s an amazing picture of Hayden Christensen as Anakin. I know it’s just the cover of the DVD but he looks so amazing here.

Oh, and another picture (or rather scene) where I go all melty inside is the bit in Pirates of the Caribbean 3 when Will says ‘Keep a weather eye on the horizon’. I’ll put that picture (or maybe the entire scene) on here in another post! How can you not like Will Turner? Although, granted, I don’t really like Orli anymore.
Anyways, I’m off to go watch the final two episodes of Ugly Betty Series 2. Oh, and I finally have accommodation for Uni! I’m so happy!!

Now that it’s been 8 days since my last post and officially the longest stretch I’ve gone without posting since beginning this blog, it’s time to jump back in the fray.

I’ve been spending a lot of time focusing on reconnecting with my past and working on seeing that I’ve been abandoning things I enjoy just because they were connected with the “girl side” of my life.  I don’t want to do that- it feels like focusing more on gender binary than just being myself, and I know that I’ve spoken about this a lot on this blog, but it’s easy to write about these principles and harder to realize you’re being a hypocrite in real life.

I’d actually been developing a phobia of feminine things, flinching away from anything girly like it was on fire, and it was getting out of hand.  So, as a way of re-establishing a balance in my life, I actually went on ahead and had a “girl’s night” with my best friend.  We watched a Queen Latifah movie, ate Ben and Jerry’s and generally did the sort of girly things that most guys would get shot for doing if the general public found out.  She wanted to straighten my hair, but by that point I’d had enough and we wound up watching Full Metal Alchemist the rest of the night.

It was actually kinda fun.

On to the main subject, I’m having the worst time picking out a name.

I know that a lot of you know me by Jack, and that’s fine in InternetLand.  It’ll probably be my screen name for a long time just because it’s already established with the email and media accounts used the most, and it’s convenient that way.  But here’s the thing.

Ever since this whole integration thing started, we’ve realized that using either my legal first name OR Jack’s name, i.e., my “brother’s” name, would be weird.  I consider him my brother, anyway.  Can you picture how weird it would be, if you suddenly shared an identity with one of your siblings, to use their name and not yours, or vice versa?  Either way it’s going to be weird.  Plus, there’s a sort of stigma attached with his name among people in my life.

With my close friends and acquaintences who became familiar with my DID situation, whether they admit it consciously or not, I know that the name Jack is associated with a condition, at best, or nothing more than a symptom, at worst.  We want to leave the DID behind and bring no more focus to that than the female part of my life associated with my legal name.  This is a fresh start for all of us, and using the name Jack would only be shoving the DID in people’s faces every day.  There’s no room for focusing on that in my life anymore.

All that said, we did at first want to find some amalgamation of Jack and my name, but it came out sounding so hilariously inappropriate that we abandoned that road and fished in other ponds of inspiration altogether.

The first name I almost settled on- Calvin- sounded close enough to my legal name that it would probably be comfortable for my friends to slip into, and it had the added plus of being associated with “Calvin and Hobbes” (which is symbolic enough that I don’t feel the need to outline it for you.)  But I sat on the idea for a couple days and wound up rejecting it.  A couple of the negatives included that the literal translation of Calvin is “bald”, and it just doesn’t sound all that manly, anyway.  It makes me think of some slight, pale, neurotic office worker with no social life.

Searching through all of the names that sound even remotely similar to my legal name, I turned up nothing that fit, not even closely.  So I started another route with my sister last night and went through lists of my favorite movies, coming up with first names that I liked based on my movie character idols.  Three hours later, I wound up with a list of about ten names that almost work but I’m not sure about.  Here they are in order of how much I like them.

- Damien
- Alan
- Thomas
- Oliver
- Xander
- Adrian
- Logan
- Richard
- Jareth (don’t laugh. this was one of the first I crossed off.)

The only problem I can find with Vincent is, it’s such an awesome name I really don’t think I can do it justice.  Is it possible to not pick a name because it’s TOO cool?  Very much so.  I’d like it, but I’m not so sure it’ll stick.

Also Damien is hardcore, but I feel like people would be hardpressed to come up with a nickname that isn’t “Dame”, which I kinda feel defeats the purpose.  It’s like how Anakin’s name got shortened to Ani when he was a kid.  ‘Nuff said.

Problems with other names like Alan, Oliver and Adrian (pretty much any name starting with a vowel) is that they seem to carry too weak of a demeanor.  They’re nice names, but I want my name to have a little bit of a kick.

I liked Thomas because it all seems to suit me nicely (Tom, Tommy, etc.) and I like the tomcat connotations- an extremely virilized, male creature in what’s generally considered a female-typed animal body- but the thing that’s weird about this is that one of my first cats was named Tommy, and it just weirds me out to name myself after a cat.  So this one’s probably out of the running, despite being win on all other accounts.

I like Xander just because it sounds cool, but it’s a little pretentious for me.  Not much to say about that one.

I like Logan because it’s Wolverine’s name.  I don’t like Logan because, for some reason, the sound of it reminds me strongly of sour milk and it kinda makes me want to hurl.

Almost the same thing with Richard.  I like it simply because of Richard B. Riddick, which in my opinion is the most badass thing since Chuck Norris and the only completely good thing Vin Diesel ever did with his career.  I don’t like it because of what people might wind up calling me- Rich, Dick, a lot of other asshole names.  The only nickname I even sort of like out of Richard is Ricky, and… meh.

Jareth I obviously don’t really want to go with because it’s the name of the King of the Goblins in one of the most beloved young-girl coming of age adventure stories of all time.  Just the idea of being associated with Jim Henson makes my skin crawl a little, however, being associated with David Bowie kind of makes up for it.  I mainly put it on the list to remind me of all the J names I could go with, like Jared and Jarron and all those other 90’s brodude names.  Really, what am I thinking on this one, anyway?

I hardly feel closer to the end of my name search than the beginning.  All I really know for certain now is that I need a new one, and I also know a few names that don’t work.  That’s it.

How do you come up with what people will call you for the rest of your life?  It’s awkward right now- I’m in an area where I don’t want anyone calling me by anything that anyone knows me as, so I’m kind of in this weird “He who shall not be named” phase.  I feel rushed to figure it out so the people who know I’m having anxiety about my female labels won’t be uncomfortable trying to figure out what to call me, but I’m having the worst of it just trying to nail one down.  Is it really that hard?  It’s just a little set of letters, it’s just a word.

Funny that so much anxiety can be caused by one little word.

Después del título más largo de la historia y la descarga más desquiciante a las 12 de la noche, me dí a la tarea de probar (con bastante emoción debo agregar) el demo de (va de nuevo) Star Wars: The Clone Wars: Republic Heroes, el cual es, por el momento, exclusivo de XBox Live Marketplace…

¿Porqué insisten en poner títulos TAN largos?

Después de una intro un tanto, “genérica” , llego el primer punto en contra: La intro musical de la serie. Aprovecho para hacer un pequeño paréntesis:

¡¡¡ESE TEMA APESTA!!! – Quién sea que decidió que sería “divertido” hacer una versión más “moderna” y “dinámica” de la Intro más conocida de la industria de la cinematografía, es un completo asno. – Y debe morir lentamente mientras es digerido por el Saarlac durante miles de años.

Quitando eso del camino, sí, olvidense de escuchar el famoso soundtrack de John Williams en este juego, al PARECER, este contará con el soundtrack del mismo tipejo (cuyo nombre preferí olvidar) que musicaliza la serie nueva.

El DEMO da dos opciones, jugar la misión de los Clones, o la misión de los Jedi. Por hacerla de emoción elegí la primera.

En medio de lo que parece ser una misión interesante, arrancas como el “Clon-con-algo-de-personalidad-sin-casco” que en medio de una carrera por su vida (en una nave que esta explotando) recibe instrucciones de Yoda (con la voz horrible que le ponen en doblaje en inglés) de como usar su rifle, como caminar, saltar…etc… un momento algo raro para explicar como jugar, pero pasando eso, el resto de la misión y el demo, es prácticamente ir caminando del punto “a” al punto “b” destruyendo droides y resolviendo acertijos un tanto molestos para salvar a tus compatriotas clones. Si, como se lee, se juega. No hay más. Mi esperanza quedaba en los Jedi.

Clones: no solo son genéricos, también son aburridos...

El demo termina un tanto trágicamente, pero como todo en esa serie, viene valiendo queso al final y solo me preguntaba si los Jedi salvarian el honor.

- No fue así -

Después de una intro aún más genérica que la de los clones, Anakin y Ahsoka están en un planeta (Ryloth al parecer) y sí, se topan con droides y más droides sin mucha explicación. Durante alrededor de 20 minutos, presioné y presioné el botón de ataque y corté y corté droides. Por ahí metieron una extraña mecánica (copiada vilmente de la primer temporada de Tartakovsky) donde puedes brincar encima de los droides y controlarlos con tu Lightsaber… un tanto inútil cuando te das cuenta que tardas el doble de tiempo en eliminarlos que cuando los atacas directamente. El demo acaba en una pelea un tanto insípida contra un Scavenger Droid y… ya.

Tal vez la mejor característca de este juego hasta ahora, es la parte gráfica, que aunque no al 100%, emula MUY bien a la nueva serie animada. El problema: El 90% del tiempo juegas con tomas tan abiertas que no tienes idea de que estás haciendo.

El DEMO de SW:CW:RH es malo. En ningún momento se apoderó de mi el “StarWarsFan” que llevo dentro…algo parecido a la emoción causada por su contraparte animada que fuera lanzada en cines hace más o menos un año y animación que, con dolor como fan, pero con cierta objetividad, destrozamos en Floppy Radio hace más de un año ya.

Sí, lo dice un fan de hueso colorado de Star Wars que incluso juega hasta la fecha el último juego que salió de Clone Wars para Nintendo DS (bastante bueno porcierto y reseñado por mí aquí)… juro que tenía esperanzas para este…

No se si me quedó tan mal sabor de boca de la película animada que ya no puedo ver objetivamente esta serie, pero al parecer, y hasta ahora, este juego se dirige en trayectoria directa a la pila del olvido… de no ser que hagan milagros de aquí al 6 de Octubre que será su lanzamiento para todas las consolas.
