There has been some debate following the Weekly Worker’s series of articles on feminism, including on Labour Representation Committee member Louise Whittle’s blog, Harpymarx. It’s regrettable that a lot of it has been conducted in a less than sober manner, with individuals ranging from the AWL-leaning Shiraz Socialist blogger to a leading member of North London Solidarity Federation opportunistically riding on the wave of thought-terminating hysteria. The latter person, to whom the CPGB apparently represents something like ‘rape denial apologists’ or ‘rape apology deniers’, quite happily engages in infantile Twitter “hate campaigns” against individuals, yet blocks people from his own feed when asked inconvenient questions or challenged to debate.

I responded to the anarchist nothingiseverlost‘s misrepresentations of the CPGB and its organiser, Mark Fischer, which he/she published in several comments below this article by Louise Whittle. Unfortunately, Louise is no longer approving my comments. Therefore, find below the follow-up reply I tried to leave last week.

Frankly, I do not believe that the AWL member in question had ample reason to feel “not safe” or contemplate calling for the security guards simply because a member of the SWP Disputes Committee happened to be somewhere in the same building. As Fischer himself wrote, “what did the AWLer think comrade Bowler’s presence portended?” I expect the AWL comrade attends protest marches despite the presence of police – arguably no less brutal and unaccountable than the most hardened SWP hack? Does she ever use public transport? Does she ever go out? Does she ever cross the road? Of course, I cannot be sure. But I think it’s safe to say that in view of the dangers that daily life poses to most people – without them being on the brink of tears at all times – Maxine Bowler’s rushing by poses a comparatively negligible threat.

So yes, this is utterly “irrational”,  “brittle” and – running danger of insulting children – “childlike” behaviour, triggered not by the comrade’s gender, but the result of disempowering, infantilising, bureaucracy-aiding ‘safe spaces’ mongering, in this case opportunistically endorsed by the AWL (for reasons too long to go into here). Not only do I think you are doing women a disservice by refusing to acknowledge the ludicrousness of such behaviour, I also think you are being dishonest.

And yes, I do think that feminists – that’s feminists, not women – often have a tendency to positively endorse and perpetuate irrational conduct. This is symptomatic not of their gender (there are plenty of zealous male feminists in and outside of the left), but of a particular political culture – one that has effectively replaced critical thinking with outrage and moral one-upmanship. It is not exclusive to feminism, although it’s particularly pronounced there. But in case you think we attribute terms such as “hysteric” or “screeching” exclusively to (female) feminists, be assured that we have framed our criticisms of the SWP’s brand of anti-fascism, for instance, in precisely the same terms.

It can be a real problem debating feminists because, as Demarty correctly observed in his earlier comment, they tend to elevate feminism to the status of a faith that is beyond criticism and must be adopted unquestioningly – as if the umbrella term for several overwhelmingly non-revolutionary trends of thought somehow had a monopoly over the women’s question (no Holy Programme here, just a Holy Hodgepodge of half-remembered fragments of post-Stalinist and left liberal concepts, see also the latest article by Mike Macnair -“dry as dust” by your standards, but informative).

This feeds into what I have described earlier: if you criticise feminism in any shape or form, you are a “sexist”. If you point out that this logic does not follow, you are a sexist because you are “calling women irrational”. If you try to explain what you meant, you are “patronising to women”. If you stop explaining, you are “arrogant”. If you appeal to calm, constructive debate instead of shouting insults, you are a “man telling a woman to shut up”. And so forth. It’s a no-win situation that makes me wonder whether there exists a feminist manual for how to terminate debate. It’s not that I’m particularly heartbroken over this, but it does make it so much more difficult for either side to arrive at any new conclusions.

In reply to your question whether I would have a problem with individual Jews being described as “money-grabbing” and such depends entirely on the context and whether it’s clear enough that such a description is not intended as racist innuendo. For instance, if you referred to Gene Simmons of Kiss as a cynical, money-grabbing businessman who doesn’t give two shits about art, I don’t think I would suspect underlying anti-Semitism.

Fischer made clear enough – and in more ways than one – that this was not intended as a swipe at supposedly “female” characteristics. He went out of his way to emphasise the connection to a particular kind of politics. You’re quite free to argue that he did not actually mean what he wrote, and that it’s more important to consider whatever can be read into a couple of expressions he used. But then we’re entering the 1990s ‘war of the words’/political correctness/language debate of postmodern academia, which is of little interest to me politically.

I concede that the term feminism is used in a variety of ways today (which is why clarification of its ideas is particularly important). To some, ‘feminism’ is shorthand for a special commitment to achieve gender equality as far as possible under present circumstances, including on the left. I have no problem with that, though this lower-case feminism often reiterates tactics of feminism proper, none of which I find particularly desirable (e.g. ‘safe spaces’ campaigns, autonomous organising of the specially oppressed). In my view, we are better off dropping the core assumptions of second-wave feminism and developing the women’s question in Marxist terms.

As I mentioned in this readers’ letter to the Weekly Worker, this does not mean that one cannot draw on any insights from the women’s movement – though for a fruitful exchange of ideas to take place, feminists would have to stop shielding feminism from criticism.

• Developments surrounding the systemic failures in California prisons were covered heavily by the media. Most recently, the Los Angeles Times reported on California judges’ threat to find Gov. Jerry Brown in contempt of court if he and the state do not “quickly produce a plan to remove thousands of convicts from California’s packed prisons.”

• In a strongly worded editorial, Bloomberg View denounces the inhumane practice of solitary confinement in the U.S., stating that its use in “prisons and detention centers has broken the bounds of reason and decency.”

• The Toronto Star reports on the high-profile inquest into the death of Ashley Smith, the teen who died in solitary confinement in Canada. Lawyers representing Smith’s family and advocacy groups “want to ensure the inquest leads to significant reductions in the use of segregation in Canadian prisons, and a ban on it for mentally ill offenders.”

• Susan Greene, writing in the Colorado Independent, reports on a recent statement by fellow Colorado State Penitentiary prisoner Troy Anderson, that Evan Ebel’s suicide note shows he was “‘ruined’ by solitary and ‘bent on revenge.’”

• Writing on The Hill’s Congress blog, Ian Kysel, author of Growing Up Locked Down, urges the U.S. government to ban the use of solitary confinement on children in federal custody. While solitary is harmful to adults, Kysel writes, ”the potential damage to children, who do not have the maturity and resilience of an adult and are at a particularly vulnerable, formative stage of life, is much greater.”

• The ACLU of Colorado calls on the state’s Department of Human Services (DHS) to end the solitary confinement of kids in Colorado’s El Pueblo Residential Treatment Center.

• The New York World  reports on the torments experienced by Rasaun Bullock during his 49 months in solitary confinement on Rikers Island.

• The Investigative Writing Workshop reports on the government’s review of solitary confinement practices in immigration centers in the U.S. The article referenced new government data (first revealed by the New York Times) showing that “about 300 immigrant detainees are in solitary in the top centers around the country while they wait for a finding of their legal status.”

• Guantanamo detainee lawyer Cori Crider tells The Huffington Post that his client, Adel Bin Ahmed Bin Ibrahim Hkim, made a failed attempt to kill himself in solitary confinement.

• Democracy Now! speaks with animal rights activist Andrew Stepanian, formerly imprisoned in the federal Communication Management Unit in Marion, Illinois, on “eco-terrorism” charges, about the secretive prison units as well as the use of solitary confinement to suppress prisoners’ contact with the media and the outside world.

• ReasonTV reports on the two-month long solitary confinement of anarchists Katherine “KteeO” Olejnik and Matt Duran at Sea-Tac Federal Detention Center in Washington state for refusing to testify on “acts of vandalism during a May Day protest last year.”

• WTHI-TV reports on Professor Laura Bates’ work at Indiana prison Wabash Valley Correctional Facility, where for the last 15 years she has taught Shakespeare to people held in solitary confinement. In a similar story, KOAT News reports on a program at the New Mexico Penitentiary which provides education to people in solitary confinement, giving them the opportunity to leave prison with a GED.

• Shawn Griffith describes his experience in solitary confinement during the almost 24 years he spent in Florida prisons. The article, published by Crime Magazine, also discusses the different types of solitary confinement, as well as alternatives to its use.

• Metro and the Amsterdam News both report on New York City Councilman Daniel Dromm’s plans to introduce two bills regulating the practice of solitary confinement in New York City jails (view their stories here and here).  As stated in the Metro article, “One bill calls on the Department of Correction to file comprehensive reports on solitary confinement, and the second calls for an end to the practice of putting people returning to jail into solitary confinement to complete time owed from their previous period of incarceration.”

• The National Law Journal reports on the federal government’s abusive use of isolation on immigrant detainees who are gay, stating that detainees suspected of being gay are held in solitary until their hearings.

• The National Immigrant Justice Center reports that over 100 organizations are calling on New York Senator Charles Schumer to address solitary confinement and other humans right abuses in the U.S. immigration detention system.

• The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) calls for all member nations to abolish the use of solitary confinement on children and persons with mental disabilities.

Then, in the early 1920s, the fear seemed to dissipate just as quickly as it had begun, and the Red Scare was over.

“You have to be strong. The only thing you do all day is just not break,” says Katherine “KteeO” Olejnik, on her two month detention in solitary confinement.

In September 2012, KteeO and her colleague, Matthew Duran, were imprisoned and sent to solitary confinement at Seattle Federal Detention Center for refusing to testify in front of a grand jury. They weren’t being tried for any crime, but refused to testify because of their political ideals.

“From the get-go, I never had any intention of being used as an instrument by the federal government,” says Duran.

“If I would have testified and something that I had said would have put someone in prison and taken them away from their family, I wouldn’t have been able to live with myself,” adds Olejnik.

What heinous crime could justify the use of solitary confinement to get KteeO and Matt to cooperate?

In this case, it was a few acts of vandalism during a May Day protest last year.

“It was a largely peaceful protest but there was a small contingent who were dressed in black and they were covering their faces, and they caused damage to the federal courthouse and also to some nearby businesses,” says Olejnik’s attorney Jenn Kaplan.

The suspects are alleged to be a group of anarchists, as are KteeO and Matt. Matt and KteeO believe they were brought in to testify based solely on their shared political beliefs with the suspects, and that the FBI is on a witch hunt to track down political dissenters.

Because grand juries are extremely secretive and there is very little transparency, the court would not release any information on the proceedings or the prosecution.

“If you’re not willing to cooperate with a grand jury’s investigation, no matter how illegitimate it seems, you can go to jail for a very long time,” says Kaplan, “and not just to jail, but it seems that the Bureau of Prisons can put you in solitary confinement for extended periods without having to justify its decision to anyone. And this could happen to any US citizen.”

Were Matt and KateeO tortured for their testimony? They sure think so.

“Just the idea of locking someone up for days, weeks, months—and never letting them out—anybody that thinks would know that this is a form of torture,” says Duran.

Margaret Chen, a lawyer for the American Civil Liberties Union of Washington, notes that you can see the physiological and psychological effects of solitary confinement in as little as seven days, and they may include sleep deprivation, withdrawal, depression, anxiety, uncontrolled rage, suicidal thoughts and self-mutilation.

Using solitary confinement for convicted felons is controversial enough, but in this case the imprisonment was a form of coercion. The judge only released Matt and KteeO after concluding that they would not break their resolve under the harshest of circumstances.

Indymedia: Tuesday March 26 marked the begining of a 48 hour strike at Sydney university. The strike was called by the NTEU with CPSU support as a continuation of the struggle against the uni administrations new Enterprise Bargaining Agreement, intended to undercut staff conditions, increase casualisation, micromanagement and surveillance under the familiar guise of “flexibility”. In the early hours of March 26, some anarchists once again broke into the City rd Catholic college (or chapel of the Insurrection) and again dropped a massive banner reading
“WE ARE THE UNI WE CAN SHUT IT DOWN
STAFF + STUDENTS STRIKE”

At 6.45am we joined hundreds of staff, students and socialists in picketing and barricading seven different entrances to the uni.
Early in the morning a contingent of riot police attempted to break a picket at the city rd car park entrance. After a brief scuffle in which the picketers managed to hold their ground, the riot pigs retreated in humiliation.

Meanwhile the parramatta rd footbridge was barricaded by anti-authoritarians who soon came into conflict with NTEU officials who collaborated with police to break the picket to allow scabs and students to pass. Militant picketers were told by NTEU beauracrats that they had to lets scabs pass or “the union could be fined for illegal activity”

From 9am on, some crews of anarchists roamed the uni in a series of roving noise pickets, passing out hundreds of anti-cop and anti-scab leaflets, writing messages on uni walls and disrupting lectures, libraries and businesses. Any commercial operation within the uni territory was fair game. We banged pots, drums, shouted at scabs and chanted against classes, cops and capital. Anyone on campus studying, working in an office, coffee shop or lecturing was acting as a strike breaker and we made sure to inform them what this meant. We aimed to disrupt any semblance of normality on the uni grounds, to assert our right to this territory against the claims of capitalists like Michael Spence and his riot pigs.

Some members of the socialist sects (who noticed the effectiveness of the roaving pickets) then marched a large contingent of students into a chemistry lecture, though rather then shouting insults at the scab and passing leaflets to students then leaving, they decided to occupy the hall and make long speeches to the chemistry students. The police soon mobilised the riot squad which burst into the lecture hall, violently dragging out picketers and arresting two of them. A crowd of angry students and anti-authoritarians then confronted police chanting “COPS OFF CAMPUS” and “NO JUSTICE, NO PEACE, FUCK THE POLICE!” Police responded by violently pushing and dragging the crowd out the building.

The riot pigs specifically targeted students of colour and those who were filming them and made 3 more arrests outside and dragged them into another building, where a crowd assembled to demanded the release of the hostages. Some trotstyite leaders then used their megaphone to order those acting in solidarity to leave the police alone and return to the picket. Instead many of the most militant picketers left the uni to make a noise demo outside Newtown cop shop. Though two arrestees were later released without charge, three more now face trumped up charges ranging from assault to hinder police.

On the following day pickets were established befor 7am. Militant picketers soon marched from the Paramatta rd bridge to the City rd car park entrance and blocked cars for a number of hours before the riot squad began aggressively forcing picketers back whenever a scab wanted to drive through. After a number of minor scuffles the cops made the choice to block entrance with their car, to ease hostilities. Many picketers then broke away to cause disruptions in the operation of the library and coffee shops.

One student strike supporter complained that we were acting like “psychopaths” and asked, “what image do you want to project?”. We respond that the only things we wish to project are bricks at the riot pigs that arrest us our loved ones, bricks we will then use to build the communal free schools of the future. We couldn’t give a fuck about the pathetic attempts by some students to act out the prescribed role of ‘good protesters’ for the corporate media. We do not perform for the media, we wish to sow class tension and generalise the practice of sabotage amongst staff and students. As neoliberal restructuring deepens and the divide between the owners and managers of capital and those excluded from profits an production increases, this tension will inevitably rupture into open conflict. We wish to bring on the violent storms of class warfare, as the rebelious greek youth sprayed across walls during the December 2008 insurrection, “we are an image from the future.”

At 12pm, a student rally had bee called by the National Union of Students (NUS) at UTS just a couple kilometres down George street. The rally was just manifestation of for the Naational Day of Action against for profit education. While the NUS announced the rally would march from the UTTS campus to Town Hall, a large contingent of strikers marched to UTS and onvinced the students to change their route and instead march to Sydney Uni in soliidarity with the strike.

As the initial contingent left Sydney uni, riot police launched an unexpected assault on a largely anti-authoritarian picket, taking another two hostages who’d been captured the previous day.

The majority of the students at the NUS rally agreed to head for USyd and over a thousand marched down George street onto City rd, before initiating a spontaneous sit in on one of Sydneys busiest arteries. Police immediately freaked out but where unable to respond because of the massive number of students involved. As usual, members of trotsyist sects, alarmed by an action they had not promoted and were not directing, began using their meaphones to implore the crowd to leave the road. When this was at first unsuccessful, they resorted to a familiar tactic of theirs and called for a vote on whether people wanted to hold the road. As always these Leninist are only capable of draining energy and initiative from any moment of class conflict. While anarchists and anarcho-syndicalists continued to push for generalised disruptions across campus, the Trotskyite politicians successfully managed to disperse the large angry crowd of students with their repetitive and boring speeches22222222 that no one ever wants to hear.

With riot police encircling the dwindling crowd, clearly waiting for a small group to cause any disruption that could be used as a pretext for an attack, most militan activists decided to leave the uni to make another noise demo outside th cop shop in solidarity with the arrestees.
Police denied both comrades bail and vindictively delayed their processing till after courts closed and held them overnight. The following day over 20 people showed up at the court in solidarity and welcomed the comrades back to relative freedom on their release.

The neoliberal restructuring of the economy toward the privatisation, casualisation and generalised precarity of employment (in the interest of a narrow class of professionals) can only be enforced with batons, tasers and prison cells. The militarisation of police and the privatisation of our lives are merely two sides of a process of exclusion and exploitation. As students and workers we are hit first by higher fees, debt, casualisation and layoffs, then by police if we take a stand.

To take control of our destinies we cannot rely on those individuals and organisations who position themselves as our representatives. While we are willing to work with unions and student associations when it is necessary, we do not recognise their authority. We must act on our own behalf directly, without the mediation of organisers or spokespeople. We must break with any groups that seek to limit the struggle by telling us to leave the street, go back to work or class, to negotiate, to reconcile.
As an alternative to being herded by representatives, we call on students and workers to organise themselves collectivily outside the structures of political parties or unions. We urge undergraduates, lecturers, service workers and staff to begin meeting together to discuss their situation. The more we begin talking to one another and finding our common interests, the more difficult it becomes for the administration and police to pit us against each other. To intensify our resistance, our immediate task is to create spaces of solidarity, care and freedom, where we can find one another to conspire against the conditions imposed on us by capital.

Occupations can liberate common spaces, negate existing property relations and assert the collective desire for that which is shared. We must physically expel the police and the administration from the territory of Usyd in order to create a free, open and communal university of resistance.

TOWARD THE SYDNEY UNI COMMUNE

A very little portion of the attraction in the life of animal men is their selfish interest. They make efforts merely to fulfill their personal desires, satisfying their aspirations and overcoming any lack. Those who do not have even this attraction make efforts only due to fear of hunger, lack, punishment, lack of help, censure etc. If all this were not there they would conveniently lead lives of inertia and indolence. We must accept that those who live such lives have done great harm to themselves.

When this selfishness reaches depths of arrogance, unruliness, vileness and attacking nature and insists on shamelessly fanning his ego and benefitting by harassing others one must perforce call him a human ghost. Ordinarily murderers, butchers, anarchists, hoodlums, vile people are called human ghosts. But today they behave in such a manner that they do not visibly act vilely, do not get caught by law and attract censure from society. Externally they wear the garb of gentlemanliness but within they are very wily and cunning in nature. As a result, so many get destroyed. Externally for example people involved in manufacturing, advertising its usage and making a business of drugs/intoxicants etc appear very straightforward but their intellect, wealth and effort destroys the financial, ethical and bodily states of so many that if all this is analyzed it will become clear that millions of people take up vile activities and thus destroy world society. Such examples are present both at the individual and group level wherein it is clear that if selfishness reigns how terrible can be the results. Robbery, pick pocketing are now ancient methods restricted to the uneducated class. Educated people have unearthed such ways that although it is actually looting, cheating yet that nobody senses it actually happening. Bribes are now very common. Mixing the original with artificial is not looked down upon but is labeled ‘business acumen’. Externally one cannot gauge to what extent people have become listless, selfish, distrusting and shameless but if their married lives, family affection and experiences of related people are analyzed we will realize that in their so called purity lies sinful living. If not human ghosts what else can we call them?

In laymen the belief of who are demons and demigods is very sketchy and deluded. They believe that demons have black face teeth are like canine’s and like beasts have horns. They say that demigods are white skinned, they are joyous, live in heaven and run to help their devotees. This is a symbolic description. There is no possibility of finding such creatures in interstellar space based worlds. On this earth too neither now or in ancient times such beings were found. On the basis of man’s inner arrangements this symbolic depiction of demons and demigods is made. Face is black meaning they are full of vices, ill fame and live a demeaned life. Big teeth mean eating more and immersing in sense merriment. Horns mean behaving vilely with others and harassing, oppressing them. If someone has these taints that person is a demon even if he/she is white skinned and good looking. Demigods are those who are generous, self controlled and love serving others humbly. Demigods are always worshiped and eulogized. Due to their loving service the strife and pain of so many people is warded off. A man of self introspection can thus find out on this basis whether he/she is a demon or demigod. How much of their time, effort, wealth and thinking is used for selfish gains and how much for world welfare? All this must be gauged by our self because no one else knows your true character. It is our inner personality that makes us a demon or demigod and we can then conclude whether we will be crushed under the weight of punishment meted out by Mahakal during times of era transformation or that by becoming his true aides gain victory so as to get glory.

Whenever human animals and ghosts will predominate in this world, hardships will reign and infinite strife will have to be faced. When this augmenting will reach worry like levels a danger of total destruction of this world so loved by God will usher in. To overcome this God has to intervene and take an Avatar. This has been clarified by Lord Krishna in the Bhagwad Gita: Whenever righteousness is attacked and unrighteousness takes over at that time to protect saintliness and uproot vileness I manifest in this world.

It is not lone effort but that a class of people is required to overcome lack of ethics and criminality. Hence under such dire situations always such a class remains alert which in spiritual terminology are called divine personages or human gods or generally are called great men, crest jewels etc. Generally this class of people always exists. Earth never has lack of spiritual seers, gentlemanly people and devotees of God and yet due to flooding of demonic activities they appear submerged. Just as in hot summer grass blades get burnt in the same way due to lack of encouragement divine activities dry up but whenever Mahakal blows his bugle for a balancing act those very unconscious, withered divine men like grass becoming green due to dew drops again awaken and faithfully show their prowess.

In order to control the rise of demonic behavior time and again divinity has to become active and fight hard. In mythological tales this is depicted everywhere. In 18 Puranas and 18 sub Puranas these tales can be found. Within the realm of wiliness and shrewdness demons flourish yet it is demigods that get God’s help and they gain victory as a result. In every page of history demonic behavior gets wiped off. Vileness procures lots of means via cunningness hence the laymen dare not oppose their terror tactics. Yet this situation does not last long. God in order to ward of imbalance in this work awaken demigod like men imbue them with life force and by and by ordinary looking men play a great role. Despair transforms into the light of hope. In these days this is exactly what is going to happen. In the important chain of events of demon-demigod battle one more chain is going to be added. In the near future such a storm will arise wherein the impossibility seen today of demons being uprooted and demigods gaining victory will be a full blown possibility in the future’s transformed circumstances.

Even human beasts are looked upon as demons because they walk on the unethical path. Human life possesses some rights and some duties. Humanity gets tainted when man like beasts lives merely to fill his tummy, procreate etc. Due to lack of control every step towards beastliness results in hardships. Thus this class of humans is also burdensome for earth.

Human ghosts and human beasts constitute the class of demons and they are responsible for all kinds of dangers in the world. Just as the Harijan class takes up the pious responsibility of sweeping the city in the same way the demigod class takes up the onus of warding off distortions and strife created by demons. No doubt they always do this but if they fail to do it sins accrue else in 10-20 years this world would become unfit to live in. But this cleansing has to be done at a war footing level when there is a danger of epidemics of swine flu, malaria, cholera etc spreading in the city, village etc. In fact in such times the cleansing has to be 2 fold or 4 fold. No doubt soldiers are generally alert but when there is danger of war, army personnel especially in the border regions become more circumspect. Today a greater danger than epidemics or war will be faced by world humanity. Chaos is noted in every nook and corner of the world because of demonic thinking. The responsibility of overcoming this unwanted state lies on the shoulders of the divine class. This is what is happening right since time immemorial. In order to ward of demonic activities demigods’ class must battle it out. This is why battles between demons and demigods have taken place. Thus demigods have always gained God’s protection as per the Lord’s proclamation: Paritranaya sadhunam vinashaya cha dushkritan. This will again take place for all to see.

Demonic activities augment when divine men become weak. Night always comes when day ends. Where there is light how can darkness manifest? Similarly the waves of idealistic greatness rise in the deep recesses of man’s psyche demonic behavior has no chance to attack the world. Beastly nature thus cannot raise its hood. An atmosphere is generated via nourishing of divinity wherein demonic tendencies get uprooted. Over here agitating times too manifest. The legs of an ant manifest at death and at that time when it tries arrogantly to douse a flame lamp it dies. Even so when divine elements augment, demonic forces also augment and yet in a short while because of their vile intentions latter have to lick defeat. Awakening of divinity along with its nourishing is that type of getting ready wherein the present day demonic darkness is warded off. Via nourished divinity that widespread influence will be noted where people on realizing the bad reactions of ghost like behavior/thinking will dare to renounce irrationality and tainted actions. Augmented divinity shall cleanse taints and dirt of the world human psyche and thus today’s hell like world will become heavenly.

In future the battle between demigods and demons will definitely take place wherein instead of man fighting man both demonic and divine activities will fight hard to get established in the entire world. A battle will go on wherein demons will try to act unwholesomely and divinity will try to usher in heavenly acts throughout the world. As a result when divine thinking will win the battle those situations will manifest in which every individual will aspire for justice, freedom, zest, means and contentment.

Demonic behavior has reached its peak today. Divinity is latent and sleeping. What is required is that divinity awakens, congregates only then God’s mission can be fulfilled. Those divine souls who have awakened their divinity will have the capacity to hear their inner voice asking them to perform their prime duty and yet today this voice is so soft that more encouragement is needed. Within the campaign of Yug Nirman Yojana this is what is being done.

We must hope that we will see that very day with our own eyes in this very life when divine men giving up all selfishness will work like historical great men for world well being and will ward of beastly and ghostlike taints present in world human psyche. Unethical acts will stop and everyone will experience an atmosphere of love, magnanimity, goodwill, cooperation, justice, zest, comfort and gentlemanliness.

The onus lies with the divine class to usher in such an era. They must awaken, they must congregate and they must assiduously work against lack of discrimination. The more swiftly they shoulder this responsibility, the quicker will we see the golden dawn of a new era and thus get glorified.

Indymedia: On Friday the 22 of March, Brazilian riot police evicted dozens of indigenous squatters from an abandoned museum in the centre of Rio. For over a decade indigenous people from across the territory had occupied the large building and the surrounding area, renaming it the ‘Macanara Village’ as it sits besides the large Maracana football stadium.

As a minimal token of our solidarity and complicity with those who defended the village, some anarchists in Sydney entered a large office building on Clarence St (which houses the Brazilian consulate) on Tuesday March 26 and dropped a banner from a balcony on the second level which read:

For over a decade indigenous people have been living in the Maricana Village and used it as a safe place to stay when they came to Rio to pursue an education, sell crafts in the streets or get medical treatment. Tukano, who is from a village deep in the Amazon said that indigenous people “would come here without money, without knowing anyone, and sleep here… We made this our space.”

The streets around the stadium are now undergoing a rapid and brutal gentrification process, to make the area a shopping and sports entertainment hub, complete with large parking lots. A favela where hundreds of poor locals lived has already been demolished to make way for new developments around the stadium.

” The governor of Rio de Janeiro, Sergio Cabral, told a news conference in October that the building’s razing is necessary for hosting the World Cup.

The Indian Museum near the Maracana will be demolished,” Cabral said then. “It’s being demanded by FIFA and the World Cup Organizing Committee. Long live democracy, but the building has no historical value. We’re going to tear it down.”
From the massacres of rebellious students by Mexican soldiers before the 1968 games, to the eviction of the poor and street vendors in Durban South Africa 2010(also at the request of FIFA), everywhere the Olympics or World Cup go, the local government paves their way with repression and gentrification.

The games and the cup are used by business and political elites as a celebration of unifying nationalism; rallying ‘the people’ around the national flag, the state, and the corporate sponsors. The ‘sport heroes’ whose images we are told to idolise can often be seen hugging politicians and selling us everything from toothpaste to health insurance. We reject and detest these choreographed carnivals of capital, constructed to hide the brutal reality behind these sporting ‘celebrations’.

In Sydney also, behind the triumphant jingoistic facade of the 2000 Olympics and the state funded ad campaigns, large squatted social centres were evicted, homeless people were expelled from the city centre, police were granted new ‘move-on’ powers, and rent prices rapidly increased. These events are not anomalies, but are reproduced (with different degrees of intensity) every few years.

In response to daily the onslaught of capital, we must work toward mass, communal occupations that can liberate territory from the forces of speculation and state order.

We know that the last 7 months must have been far from easy for you compañera, and we can only imagine that the challenges of clandestinity have required immense patience and strength from you.

However, even through the obscuring veil of clandestinity, you remain ever present in our minds, and we stand in irrepressible solidarity with you. As we stand in unbending solidarity with all comrades who fearlessly stand up, face to face with the enemy. So with much revolutionary love we send you our warmest greetings, as well as to all comrades who stand strong in their convictions under immense pressure. You are not alone, we stand beside you.

For all the snarling of this tired system; the various international operations of repression, the incarceration of our comrades, the mass attacks on liberated spaces, as well as the attempts to harass your comrades & family (as we have read), is part of a failed attempt to paralyze us with fear and panic. I’ve always stayed rather far from colour when it came to clothing. I love how subtle blacks, greys, and whites can be… yet at the same time, they’re able to make powerful statements. I’m also a big fan of warm neutrals, which in time you will see that I wear a lot of.

On this shoot however, I decided to wear this blue coloured blouse with my otherwise (mostly) neutral coloured outfit. I love the watermark print on the blouse, which tones down the blue colour. There were actually several outfits that I wanted to showcase which had a pop of blue in them, but I couldn’t stand the cold after the first outfit (we did this shoot in February…).

On a warmer note, it is so exciting to think that spring is finally here – what better way than a pop of colour to welcome it?

I recently picked up photography as a new hobby and brought out my fam’s DSLR from ’03. It was probably one of the last beautiful days of this winter season. Her and I decided to go out and take some snapshots of our outfits.

It seems like everyone has a pair of Clarks Desert Boot these days, and rightfully so because they’re amazing for the price. These red ones really stood out to me after I first saw them a year ago. I like a bit of flash every now and then, especially with the predominance of neutral hues in my closet.

Claudius Sulpicianus, prefect of the city, father-in-law of the murdered emperor began making offers. Eventually Sulpicianus promised 20,000 sesterces to every soldier; Julianus, fearing that Sulpicianus would gain the throne, then offered 25,000. The guards immediately closed with the offer of Julianus, threw open the gates, saluted him by the name of Caesar, and proclaimed him emperor. Threatened by the military, the Senate declared him emperor.

Julianus was killed in the palace by a soldier in the third month of his reign , his last words were “But what evil have I done? Whom have I killed?”
