That was the weekend that was.

1. Chelsea showed Arsenal what it takes to be champions elect yesterday with a lesson in how to blend skill with power. Up until the first goal Arsenal were in control without really doing anything, though Chelsea could have had a penalty for Sagna’s foul on Anelka. Then out of nothing Cole wasn’t closed down and a great cross came over for Drogba to finish clinically. The defending wasn’t the best. Sagna could have made a better attempt to prevent the cross from Cole and one of the centre backs could have cleared it but it was a great ball in.

A couple of minutes later an almost identical goal was scored. Cole again had time and space to put in a great ball from the left but this time it went in off Vermaelen who was expecting Gallas to clear it. Two quick goals before half time, game over. The second half was notable for Arshavin’s disallowed goal, Drogba’s free kick to wrap up the victory and nothing more.

The game showed exactly how far Arsenal have to go if they are to match Chelsea. Ancelotti’s team had height and strength all over the pitch as well as skill, overpowering Arsenal everywhere. Wenger was missing Van Persie, Bendtner and Diaby who all would have played in this game and perhaps made a difference. However you’d imagine that even with them on the pitch Chelsea would find have found a way to win.

For some reason there was a constant stream of hopeful crosses and medium length passes to the forward line of Arshavin, Nasri and Eduardo, who every time were beaten in the air by Terry & co. It changed a little in the second half but there were mainly lots of runs up blind alleys. Eduardo in particular looked well off the pace and badly needs a meaningful goal while Arshavin continued his peripheral form of this season. Walcott was poor when he came on and there are no true wingers at the clubs, instead lots of inside forward types.

I find it so hard to decide who I dislike more in this picture.

As for Drogba, Arsenal must be sick of him. Two great goals and an all action performance in tandem with Anelka. He now has 10 goals in 11 games vs Arsenal and has been directly the match winner six times.  I think Almunia should have done better with the third goal; his positioning was wrong (why move behind the wall?) and thus the ball was already in the net before he even reached with his dive.

Wenger can say the disallowed goal was pivotal but I disagree. As in the game against Man Utd, having all the possession is pointless if you can’t do anything with it. The reason why Chelsea and Man Utd have been the two top teams for the past few years is that they can soak up pressure and still win. Arsenal have yet to discover that method.

What you see and what you get.

2. Everton lost again and although there’s no shame in being beaten by Liverpool (actually…) you sense that perhaps Moyes has taken them as far as he can. That’s not to say he isn’t right for the job and the Scot has done wonders with the budget and constraints he has but maybe something needs freshening up.

Everton won’t reach the heights of the past few seasons and the constant long-term injuries to key players means a likely finish outside the top eight this year. With the Kirkby stadium plans rejected and no buyers for the club, the future looks a little uncertain at Goodison.

3. Is the clock ticking for Mark Hughes? Seven straight draws now. Funny how you can say they’re unbeaten in ten or without a win in seven. Hughes will no doubt slant to the former but I suspect the owners will be looking at the latter. Of the seven games (Villa A, Wigan A, Fulham H, Birmingham A, Burnley H, Liverpool A, Hull H), only Villa and Liverpool are truly tough games if you have real aspirations to be in the top four, and despite everything said otherwise that is the target. Somehow I don’t think Hughes will get a second attempt if he doesn’t achieve it this season in what is such an open year.

4. Hats off to Jimmy Bullard for the celebration of the season. In case you haven’t seen it, he gathered his teammates in a circle and mock scolded a la Tango Man last season. Ironically enough it was at the City of Manchester Stadium again. His return has been the main reason behind Hull’s resurgence and they may yet find themselves in a position like last where they weren’t very good but three teams were worse. He has brought a sense of fun back to the KC Stadium and fair play to Phil Brown for being able to see the funny side of Bullard’s celebration.

Genius.

5. One of those teams will be Wolves unless Mick McCarthy goes. It took a while but it’s now clear that either the players or the manager aren’t cut out for this level. Time for either to prove that’s not true.

6. Birmingham have been doing well of late. They have been hard to break down since the start of the season but Alex McLeish has realised that by adding an extra striker and playing 4-4-2 he is far more likely to rack up the points that will lead Birmingham to safety this season.

Could there be another brawl at the Emirates? The London derby is one of the most heated matches in Premier League.

From the Merseyside derby to the London derby, it is sure a Super Sunday for all the Football fans in the world. The London derby will be an interesting one as it could determine where the Premiership will go this season. Chelsea are leading the table and if they win at the Emirates then it would be a two legged horse race between the blues and Manchester United. Arsenal will have to dig deep to avoid this.

The North side of London will be contesting for the top spots in the Premier League. They are currently third in the league and eight points behind their London rival, Chelsea, at the top. Many have doubted Arsene Wenger’s kid this season but it seems like they are finding their stride. They reached the last 16 of the Champions League in the midweek after beating Standard Liege 2-0 at home. The French manager will be happy to put away another London rival at the Emirates after disposing Tottenham with 3-0. Wenger is concerned over the injuries of Kieran Gibbs, Andrey Arshavin and William Gallas. Gibbs is out after needing a metatarsal surgery while Gallas has an ankle injury.  Theo Walcott and Samir Nasir are set to play a role in the London derby.

Leading the Premiership with 5 points to the closest rival, qualify for the last 16 in the Champions League and playing at the top of their form, could Chelsea continue their winning streak without Frank Lampard? Chelsea have depth in the squad and that could bring the Premiership title back to Stamford Bridge since 2006. Manager Carlo Ancelotti has inherited a good bunch of players and now managing them looks simple. Ancoletti will be without Frank Lampard and Jose Bosingwa for the London derby. Michael Ballack and Deco are set to return to the starting lineup while Essien and Drogba are back after complains over receiving knocks in the midweek.

Massive brawl whenever these two teams meet and it will not be the last of it. Chelsea have the upper advantage going into this match, they beat Arsenal twice, 4-1 in the Premier League and 2-1 in the FA Cup at the Emirates Stadium. Arsene Wenger will be desperate to claim one over the Chelsea team as he wants to close the gap between them. A stalemate could be reached but without the inspirational Frank Lampard, anything can happen.

La putine zile distanta, doi jucatori din lotul lui Manchester City, club cumparat anul trecut de bogatasi arabi, si-au exprimat indoielile in privinta continuitatii lor pe scena fotbalului la nivelul selectionatelor nationale.

Craig Bellamy, un plimbaret in fotbalul de club, s-a intrebat in public daca mai are rost sa se chinuie la capitania Tarii Galilor intr-o increcare de accedere la un turneu final neconcretizata peste ani de compatriotul sau Ryan Giggs. Desi n-a smuls deloc aplauze, galezul a fost inteles de exemplu de Allan McInally, fost international scotian, ce a opinat ca pentru unii fotbalisti in varianta globalizata a jocului, ajunsi la o anumita varsta si cu sacii de galbeni incarcati in caruta, dorinta de a continua in paralel la echipa nationala a capatat o nuanta mai opaca.

Avantaj Ashley Williams, un fundas oarecare ce nici nu si-ar fi imaginat acum un an si jumatate, la debutul in nationala Tarii Galilor, ca va deveni capitan al “Dragonilor”, si nici atat in urma cu 6 ani, cand nu evolua la divizionara secunda Swansea City, ci la amatoarea Hednesford Town, in paralel cu slujba cu jumatate de norma ca ospatar. Foarte improbabila o asemenea ascensiune intr-o nationala de calibru si s-ar putea crede ca orice Van Persie si-ar dori mai ales un triumf global cu reprezentativa sa pe cai mari, insa o alta voce a venit sa infirme aceasta supozitie.

Poate ca Tevez, celalalt recrut al lui City punand la indoiala dorinta de a mai juca pentru tara sa,  a aruncat castana tocmai pentru a-l sensibiliza pe Maradona sa-l ia in considerare pentru FIFA 2010 World Cup, dar iesirea sa ar putea fi intr-adevar onesta. Spunand ca s-a saturat de fotbal, inclusiv de cel de club, si ca si-ar dori sa-si intoarca fata spre viata de familie, Carlos a subliniat ca argentinienii de lot nu s-au menajat nici pe departe cand a fost vorba sa “dea totul” pentru echipa nationala.  

Cei doi i s-ar putea asadar alatura in exil septarului lui City, Stephen Ireland, ale carui minciuni legate de decesul bunicilor sale, strecurate managerului Steve Staunton in speranta de a-si scurta sederea la lot si a-si vizita prietena dar dezvaluite ca atare de mass-media, au dus la ruptura mijlocasului de lotul national al Irlandei. De fapt, in cazul lui Ireland, totul s-a rostogolit spre un deznodamant previzibil, odata ce a intrat in conflict cu selectionerul Brian Kerr, la nationala sub 18 ani, si a trebuit sa dea din nou ochii cu acesta la preluarea reprezentativei de seniori. Ireland a trebuit sa astepte instalarea lui Staunton pentru a fi din nou convocat… 

Iar cam pe cand Van Persie gemea in Pescara, un rival in fotbalul de club era déjà inapoi in Londra, cu o potentiala sedere pe tusa de cateva saptamani. Frank Lampard doar a facut deplasarea la Doha, pentru remarcabilul amical Anglia – Brazilia organizat insa in inedita gazduire din lumea araba, dar nici nu s-a mai pregatit pentru alinierea in fata sud-americanilor, lasata pe umerii a doar doi potentiali titulari, Barry si Rooney, ingrosand in schimb infirmeria lui Ancelotti. Sir Alex Ferguson si-o freca pe de-o parte mainile pentru necazul italianului si-al lui Wenger, dar va atrage probabil pe de alta parte atentia la vorbele sale, mereu in disonanta cu “nevoile” selectionerilor de lot. Frecusurile lui Fergie cu Sven sunt binecunoscute si n-au mirat pe nimeni deciziile unor Scholes ori Neville de a spune pas pentru Albion. Miza era prea mare in Premier League si Champions League.

Iar pe cand Van Persie calatorea spre “Cizma”, nebanuind ce-l asteapta, din sanul lui West Ham United razbatea vestea ca Dean Ashton, cumparat de club la inceputul anului 2006 pe o suma record de peste 7 milioane lire sterline, e in prag sa-si agate ghetele in cui. La 25 de ani. Masivul varf chiar marcase pentru “Ciocanari” in memorabilul 3-3 al finalei de Cupa Angliei cu Liverpool, din 2006, dar trei luni mai tarziu, la chiar primul antrenament al convocarii sale in premiera la lotul national, isi rupea glezna. Un an pe tusa si o recidiva, coincidenta stranie, la prima sedinta a visiniu-albastrilor sub bagheta lui Gianfranco Zola. A trecut un an si Ashton, un potential varf pentru Albion, tot nu vede luminita de la capatul tunelului. Totul i se trage insa de la acea convocare in premiera, o onoare cu doua taisuri.

De la alt club, in acelasi timp, un comunicat de presa raspandea vestea retragerii din fotbal a unui jucator lovit de accidentari. La 26 ani, John Kennedy a aruncat prosopul dupa un deceniu petrecut la Celtic Park, drama sa conturandu-se in minutul 18 al meciului sau de debut pentru Scotia, in 31 martie 2004, cand era faultat de Vio Ganea intr-un amical castigat de Romania cu 2-1. Fundasul era monitorizat la vremea respectiva chiar de AC Milan, o postura onoranta tinand cont de numele de calibru ce au consolidat peste ani defensiva rosso-nerilor, insa John n-a mai vazut luminile rampei internationale pana in februarie 2007, la un joc de Champions League tocmai cu… milanezii, la care a luat loc pe banca de rezerve, revenind dupa ani pierduti prin sali de recuperare. Paguba era insa produsa si genunchiul i-a dat ulterior din nou in primire. Federatia a despagubit-o pe Celtic dar un alt club si-a vazut un potential lider irosit sub flamura steagului national.

Asa cum corporatiile preiau tot mai mult rolul statelor, estompand granitele, si fotbalul de club castiga teren pe zi ce trece, in detrimentul nationalelor, ghinion ca al vedetei Van Persie ori al “sperantei” Ashton dand apa la moara carcotasilor.

Iar scurtcircuitele lui Van Persie, Lampard, Bellamy, Tevez, Ashton ori Kennedy au venit in cascada intr-o saptamana fotbalistica indoliata de tragedia lui Robert Enke. Un om ce a intors spatele vietii cu 4 zile inaintea jocului Germania – Chile, la care nu fusese convocat. 

Looking at companies that offer leadership forums in Bristol got me thinking about the whole area of leadership and famous figures that demonstrate high levels of leadership and management. There have been many people that have tried to become great managers but only few have suceeded. One of the most successful football managers in recent times is Carlo Ancelotti who has managed AC Milan to Champions League success in a time of great difficult in Italian football.

He is known for his ability to form strong relationships with his players and proof of this was his ability to be in charge of one of the most difficult clubs to manage, AC Milan, for over 7 years and has recently gone on to become Chelsea football manager in which success is defined through winning pretty much every competition.

He can, more often than not, manage very determined and often selfish personalities and this is a key part of his job as he needs this personalities to follow his instructions as they are some of the most talented footballers in the world. He has demonstrated an ability to build new football teams out of players whom he has not selected to bring to the club and always shows great characted and humility when in public.

Chelsea Meet Carlo...

The Borough of Chelsea and Kensington is home to a number of the wealthiest people on earth, the most sublime of gastronomic delights, and is a practically unrivaled locale for a shopper on the hunt for haute couture. Yes, Chelsea is undoubtedly one of London’s crown jewels, though its extra sparkle of late can be solely attributed to one man… and his influence over their infamous boys in blue.

Several years ago when ‘The Special One’, Jose Mourinho, left the club due to a prolonged and aggravated dispute with the powers that be, Chelsea was once again thrust into football limbo. Granted this limbo included a trip to the Champions League final in 2008, but it also included player dissatisfaction, off field escapades and falling short in their quest to win the EPL, the Carling Cup, the FA Cup, not to mention losing to bitter rivals Manchester United in the aforementioned Champions League Final.

It was obvious that Avram Grant was not the answer, and it became painfully obvious to everybody, except perhaps the man himself, that Luiz Felipe Scolari was not the man for the job either. Such dissatisfaction with the team’s management had Chelsea fans in London, England, and indeed the world over, clamoring for Chelsea’s billionaire sugar daddy, Roman Abramovich, to put aside his squabble with the gifted Portuguese. With typical Russian stoicism he declined their requests and delivered unto them a saviour that has footy fans who worship the blue and white asking… Jose Who???

He knows the stakes. He knows the odds. He knows his competition, and more importantly, how to dissect and frustrate them. He is the master of the four man defensive system. Champions League? He has won it 4 times… twice with his own two feet and twice with a pad and a pen. His name is Carlo Ancelotti, and Chelsea fans, you can thank Roman later.

Of course the majority of Ancelotti’s success came while at the helm of Italian giant AC Milan. He took one of the world’s true football dynasties and restored them to the glory of the star studded Milan teams of the late 80s and early 90’s. Chelsea  fans should be honoured that he has selected their club as his next project. That is not to say that he is charged with building The Blues up from scratch. On the contrary, this is a team that is far and wide unrivaled in its collection of talent. However, much like Milan, talent counts for little if the squad does not move uniformly towards one ultimate goal. The goal, the only goal according to Abramovich, is for Ancelotti to replicate his successes with Milan at Chelsea, and to become the Champions of Europe.

Of course, like all great Italian football strategists, Ancelotti focuses on building from the net out. In Peter Cech he has arguably one of the greatest keepers of the past decade, and in John Terry he has found a captain and defensive workhorse reminiscent of a certain Milanese defender of note. Paolo something I think his name is. To that end, the Milan comparisons are numerous. A midfield previously reserved for wide attack play has been substituted for more through the middle action, focusing primarily through the artistic conduit that is Frank Lampard (Kaka anyone?). Furthermore, strong play and deft passing from Michael Essien and John Mikel Obi has allowed for more freedom of movement on the wings and of course down the middle to the strike duo of Nicolas Anelka and Didier Drogba. That’s right, a strike duo.

For years, Drogba has patrolled Chelsea’s opponents’ 18 yard box on his own, the tip of Chelsea’s attacking spear as it were. However, upon reflecting on his ‘modest success’ utiziling Andrei Shevchencko and Filippo Inzaghi simultaneously at Milan, Ancelotti has decided that perhaps using two of the deadliest strikers in Europe in the same starting XI would increase the team’s killer instinct in front of goal.

Lets have a look the results thus far. EPL rivals Liverpool and Manchester United have come calling to Stamford Bridge and both have been turned away by scores of 2-0 and 1-0 respectively. Chelsea currently sits supreme in the Premiership with a mighty 10-0-2 record, both losses coming away from London’s west end. Moreover, it was not until last week that Chelsea allowed a goal in this Champions League season, again in an away match.

Cech Please...

Granted the scoring touch of Drogba and new pal Anelka is ever present as is the high flying wing play of Florent Malouda. It should be noted that many teams in the premiership have proven scoring capability. Take Arsenal for example, a team of  chock full of young phenoms who like nothing better than to find the back of the net, often rely solely on this ability in order to eek out wins in their matches. Their defense, however, has for some time been a point of contention, and this year’s incarnation has not put that unease to rest.

In this writer’s opinion, much of Chelsea’s early success this season can be attributed to the stonewall goal keeping of Petr Cech and Ancelotti’s movable fortress of John Terry (et al) manning the barricades in front of him. Together this defensive unit has amassed 6 clean sheets in 12 premiership matches, and 3 clean sheets in 4 opportunities in Champions League play.  All in all a considerable improvement on the campaigns of years previous. If Ancelotti can continue to find ways to mesh his Italian style defense with a traditionally opportunistic Premiership style attack it will be next to impossible for their opponents to knock them off track en route to perhaps the greatest season in club history.

Attention football clubs of Europe, Chelsea’s Carlo Ancelotti Era has arrived. Beware not only the fortress he has built at ‘The Bridge’, but also the heights his squad can reach once he irons out their away game and takes it with him on the war path.

LONDON, Nov 9, 2009 (AFP) – Carlo Ancelotti has rubbed salt into Manchester United’s wounds over their controversial defeat at Chelsea by suggesting Arsenal are just as big a threat to his side’s Premier League title ambitions.

Chelsea’s 1-0 win, sealed by John Terry’s late header, allowed Ancelotti’s men to open a five-point lead at the top and left his United counterpart, Sir Alex Ferguson, once again aggrieved over his side’s treatment at the hands of a referee.

While Ferguson admitted his side now face a tough task in attempting to close the gap on a Chelsea squad that is becoming as rich in confidence as it is in experience, Ancelotti was quick to underline the unexpected vibrancy of Arsenal’s challenge as a reminder of the dangers of complacency.

“If Arsenal win their game in hand, they will be within two points of us,” he said when asked to speculate on whether the title race was now a two-horse affair.

“I think also Arsenal is doing very well.

“A five-point lead is important, but at the same time, not so important. We have 30 points in 12 matches but we know the season is very long. We have to stay focused.”

Chelsea fans’ optimism that Ancelotti could emulate Jose Mourinho in wresting the Premier League trophy away from Old Trafford will have been encouraged by the fact that, three months into his first season in England, the Italian has now master-minded wins over both United and Liverpool.

“That is important,” Ancelotti said. “But we lost against Wigan and Aston Villa. This means every game is the same. It is always three points and we have to maintain concentration against Manchester United, against all teams.

“It was very difficult to beat Manchester, the match was very balanced for 90 minutes and it was difficult for both teams to create chances to score. Sometimes we lost with the set plays, this time we won.”

The set play that decided Sunday’s match was a 76th-minute freekick awarded to Chelsea after referee Martin Atkinson — mistakenly — judged that Darren Fletcher, who had been outstanding for United, had fouled Ashley Cole close to the left touchline.

Frank Lampard’s inswinging delivery was glanced into the net by Terry, although Nicolas Anelka also celebrated as if he had got the final touch.

Either way, Chelsea were fortunate to take all three points after a contest that a depleted United side had controlled for long periods, which only contributed to Ferguson’s frustration over the critical free-kick.

“Clearly, Darren Fletcher’s won the ball, Ashley Cole’s never touched and has jumped up in the air, and then (Didier) Drogba’s pulled Brown to the ground for the goal,” Ferguson said.

“The referee’s position to make the decision was absolutely ridiculous, he can’t see anything. He’s got a Chelsea player (Joe Cole) standing right in front of him and he doesn’t even move.

“That goal shoudn’t have been allowed. It was a bad decision, but there’s nothing we can do about it. You lose faith in refereeing sometimes, that’s the way the players are talking in there. It was a bad one.”

Ferguson maintained sufficient composure to acknowledge that United could only blame themselves for failing, over the course of the 90 minutes, to turn their domination of possession into better chances.

“We had great opportunities to get to the edge of the box and some really good chances in and around the box, but we should be finishing it off,” the Scot recognised.

“We’ve only ourselves to blame in that respect. But you do need a break – and we never got the break we needed.”

Ferguson also admitted that the setback at Stamford Bridge was far more significant than last month’s 2-0 defeat at Liverpool.

“The fact is Chelsea go five points clear of us,” he said. “The defeat to Liverpool didn’t affect our position in the league, this affects our position in the sense that if we’d have won we’d have gone top.”

Domani (oggi, NdT), a Madrid, Carlo Ancelotti schiererà Didier Drogba in Champions League per la prima volta e cercherà di ottenere il passaggio alla fase a eliminazione diretta.

Il Chelsea se l’è cavata benissimo senza la nostra principale punta, durante i suoi tre turni di squalifica, vincendo tutte le partite giocate, ma con Drogba in grande forma al pari dei tanti suoi compagni di squadra il gruppo può solo diventare più forte.

Ancelotti ha tirato una riga sui fatti accaduti contro il Barcellona e si limitato a guardare avanti.

“Non ho parlato con Drogba della scorsa stagione,” ha detto l’italiano. “Ho solo parlato della sua assenza nei tre turni precedenti e gli ho detto di prepararsi a rientrare, a lavorare per la squadra. Adesso è pronto.”

Ancelotti è anche pronto a riaccogliere in squadra Ashley Cole, che è rimasto fuori per tre partite per via di un infortunio al ginocchio. Con Yury Zhirkov infortunato e Paulo Ferreira schierato terzino sinistro sabato ma escluso dalla lista di Champions League, è un gradito ritorno.

“Lui [Cole] è pronto a giocare domani, (oggi, NdT),” ha riferito Ancelotti. “Ieri (domenica, NdT) si è allenato con noi ed è andato tutto bene. Vogliamo verificare le sue condizioni anche stasera ma credo che sia pronto a giocare.”

La squadra che scenderà in campo martedì al Vicente Calderon affronterà un Atletico Madrid guidato da un nuovo allenatore che ha però già incrociato il Chelsea. Quique Sanchez Flores allenava il Valencia che ha affrontato i Blues nel 2006/07 e 2007/08 e conosce anche Ancelotti.

“Lui [Flores] è un bravo tecnico, ha fatto bene al Valencia e credo che possa fare bene anche all’Atletico Madrid.”

“Rispettiamo l’Atletico perché ha ottimi giocatori. [Tomas] Ujfalusi è un buon difensore, [Sergio] Aguero è un forte attaccante, [Diego] Forlan un’ottima punta e [Maxi] Rodriguez un bravo centrocampista. Non stanno attraversando un buon momento ma hanno la qualità per riprendersi.”

Gli elogi per del manager per Aguero, il cui nome era stato accostato al Chelsea in estate, possono far drizzare le orecchie ma Ancelotti ha voluto fare una puntualizzazione sul 21enne argentino.

“Per l’età che ha è uno dei migliori al mondo. E’ molto giovane, un grandissimo attaccante. Ha grandissime qualità e ogni grande Club vorrebbe averlo, ma non abbiamo pensato di prenderlo al momento.”

Per ora Ancelotti è contento di potersi concentrare sui giocatori che nelle ultime quattro uscite gli hanno dato tante soddisfazioni.

“Ultimamente abbiamo giocato un grande calcio. A volte non è facile farlo ma adesso la squadra ha una buona idea di come continuare su questa strada e scendere in campo per giocare 90 minuti di buon calcio.”

“Sono contento perché in tre mesi abbiamo migliorato.”

Joe Cole, al rientro

Oggi (ieri, NdT) la squadra ha ottenuto una brillante vittoria allo Stamford Bridge (5-0 sul Blackburn, NdT) e Carlo Ancelotti ha detto che veder giocare la sua squadra è stato un piacere.

Ci sono anche stati due rientri al Bridge, con Joe Cole che ha giocato per la prima volta da titolare in questa stagione di Barclays Premier League e Paulo Ferreira che è tornato a giocare in campionato entrando come sostituto nel secondo tempo e ottenendo così la 100° apparizione con la maglia del Chelsea.

C’è stato anche un debutto, quello di Jeffrey Bruma che ha sostituito Ricardo Carvalho disputando la sua prima partita, ma fra questi tre a parere di Ancelotti c’è stato qualcuno che si è distinto.

“Sono rimasto impressionato da Joe Cole, sapevo che s’impegna tantissimo ed è un grande professionista,” ha detto il manager italiano. “Non è facile giocare come ha fatto oggi Joe, dopo otto mesi che sei fuori.”

“Sono contento per lui e anche per noi, chiaramente, perché Joe è un grande giocatore. Si muove benissimo a centrocampo, è un genio e ha giocato davvero bene.”

Dopo l’ultima sconfitta in campionato, la ripresa di oggi ha ovviamente soddisfatto il manager, che continua a ottenere successi in Champions League, anche perché abbiamo difeso bene sui calci piazzati.

“Dopo aver perso con l’Aston Villa abbiamo potuto trovare un buon rimedio sulle palle ferme perché abbiamo ottimi difensori.”

“Abbiamo anche segnato quattro gol nel primo tempo,” ha spiegato Ancelotti parlando della nostra vittoria infrasettimanale sull’Atletico Madrid. “E’ una cosa importante, dimostra che abbiamo migliorato in fretta. Abbiamo giocato benissimo in quell’occasione.”

“E mi è piaciuto molto anche questo incontro perché ci siamo comportati altrettanto bene. E’ stato un piacere veder giocare la squadra, oggi.”

Les hommes de Carlo Ancelotti ont atomisé les Blackburn Rovers 5 buts à 0. Aprés leur belle prestation en Ligue des Champions face à l’Atlético (4 à 0), les coéquipiers de John Terry confirment la fin de leur mauvaise passe en championnat. Retour sur la semaine des Blues.

Mal en point aprés leur deuxième défaite en championnat samedi dernier contre Aston Villa, les joueurs de Chelsea recevaient l’Atlético Madrid pour le compte de la 3ème journé de Ligue des Champions. Un vrai choc ? c’est ce qu’on pensait, mais le match n’en a pas été ainsi. Les Blues ont pris l’avantage au bon moment, juste avant la pause, par l’intermédiaire de l’Ivoirien Salomon Kalou. Le frère de Bonaventure Kalou, l’ancien parisien, a inscrit un doublé juste après la mi-temps. Franck Lampard, moins en vue depuis quelques saisons maintenant, a inscrit le 3ème but de son équipe avant Perea ne marque contre son camp. Au final une addition bien salée pour les Madrilènes qui n’y arrivent décidèment pas cette année. Pour les coéquipier de Didier Dorgba, une large victoire qui installait confortablement le club de la capitale londonienne dans le trône du groupe D.

Hier aprés midi, Ancelotti et les siens avaient à coeur de regouter à la victoire en championnat. Pour cela, les Blues recevaient les Blackburn Rovers du Français Gaël Givet. C’est d’ailleurs l’ancien marseillais qui ouvre le score. Malheureusement pour lui il se trompait de filets et inscrivait le premier but londonien. Par la suite, Franck Lampard confirmait sa bonne forme en inscrivant un doublé et, par là même, ses 2ème et 3ème buts de la semaine. Entre temps Michaël Essien avait ajouté son grain de sel avant qu’à l’heure de jeu Didier Drogba n’inscrive son but. Au final, une victoire 5 à 0 et une première place retrouvée en attendant le match entre Liverpool et Manchester United cette après-midi à 15h.

9 buts marqués en une semaine pour 0 encaissé, le bilan des Blues est trés bon. Les joueurs de Carlo Ancelotti annoncent la couleur. Ils seront sûrement en 8ème de finale de la Champion’s League et seront présents pour le titre en Premier League cette saison, Roman Abramovitch a enfin trouvé le bon entraineur semble-t-il.

Ancelotti e il suo secondo, Wilkins

Carlo Ancelotti schiererà contro l’Atletico Madrid la miglior formazione a sua disposizione, conscio che una vittoria rimetterebbe in carreggiata la squadra dopo la sbandata del Villa Park consentendole anche di consolidarsi in Champions League.

Ben piazzati nel Gruppo D dopo due vittorie, con una terza affermazione mercoledì sera i Blues non si garantirebbero il passaggio alla fase a eliminazione diretta ma farebbero un gran passo avanti, con la trasferta nella capitale spagnola da affrontare da qui a due settimane.

Ancelotti non potrà contare su Jose Bosingwa, per la partita di mercoledì. Il terzino destro era pronto a rientrare dopo la squalifica europea per due turni, ma un nuovo ostacolo si è frapposto.

“Bosingwa ha avuto un problema al ginocchio contro l’Aston Villa,” dice Ancelotti. “Non giocherà domani ma non credo che sia un grande problema e spero di poterlo utilizzare sabato.”

Branislav Ivanovic ha preso il posto del difensore portoghese nel secondo tempo della partita persa col Villa e aveva già giocato da terzino destro nelle vittorie di Champions League sul Porto, in casa, e sull’Apoel, fuori.

Rientra Michael Ballack, fuori nel fine settimana, ma resta fuori John Mikel Obi per un fastidio alla caviglia.

Alex, che lunedì ha giocato 45 minuti con le Riserve, è uno dei nuovi giocatori che il manager avrà presto a disposizione.

“Rientrato dall’infortunio, Alex ha giocato benissimo. Adesso deve allenarsi e per sabato sarà pronto,” riferisce Ancelotti.

La difesa del Chelsea sui calci piazzati è stato il fulcro di ogni analisi da quando il Villa ha segnato due gol su calcio d’angolo. Ci si è allenati su questo ma Ancelotti sostiene che, così come per i rigori calciati sotto pressione, sia difficile ricreare certe situazioni a Cobham (il campo d’allenamento del Club, NdT).

“Ma dobbiamo migliorare,” aggiunge, “perché puoi anche giocare una buona partita ma basta distrarsi per pochi secondi che fai un brutto risultato.”

Difende anche le prestazioni di Petr Cech in questa stagione.

“Petr è in buone condizioni. Ha un approccio fantastico perché si prende molti rischi dato che gli piace conquistare la palla sulle uscite. Ogni tanto può fare un errore ma io voglio che esca per far sua la palla.”

Una vittoria, domani, metterebbe otto punti fra il Chelsea e l’Atletico Madrid, che tutti si aspettavano che ci mettessero pressione in chiave qualificazione. E non è ancora da escludersi, avverte il manager.

“Al momento non è facile per loro perché anche il Porto è messo bene, ma nel giro di quattro partite possono ancora arrivare primi.”

“Non hanno avuto un buon inizio di stagione ma hanno ottime qualità, soprattutto in avanti. Hanno [Diego] Forlan e [Sergio] Aguero, che sono attaccanti temibili. Dobbiamo fare attenzione perché Aguero è fortissimo e può decidere un incontro.”

“Sono una buona squadra ma finora non hanno trovato la giusta disposizione tattica in campo.”

“Dobbiamo batterli non solo per ritrovare la vittoria ma anche per poter amministrare i prossimi tre impegni nel girone.”

Carlo Ancelotti blasted his day-dreaming Blues after two blunders cost them dear.

The Chelsea boss was fuming as his side conceded twice from corners at Villa Park.

Richard Dunne and James Collins headed home with ease thanks to a pair of shocking defensive errors.

Ancelotti said: “We lost the game because we had two set plays. We need to be more focused on the situation.

“We played a good game and we don’t want to lose the game in that situation, only if the other team play better than us.

“Aston Villa were very able on the set plays. We want to do better for sure. We need more concentration.”

Carlo Ancelotti ha sottolineato che la brutta prestazione difensiva sui calci piazzati è stato il motivo principale della sconfitta nell’incontro giocato sabato all’ora di pranzo contro l’Aston Villa.

Entrambi i gol dei nostri avversari sono arrivati su calci d’angolo dalla sinistra, tutti e due sono stati realizzati su colpo di testa sotto porta dopo lisci difensivi e il risultato è che per la prima volta negli ultimi due anni abbiamo perso due partite fuori casa di seguito.

Al termine della partita, Ancelotti non ha potuto dissimulare la propria frustrazione.

“Sono contrariato perché abbiamo fatto una buona partita ma l’abbiamo persa su calci piazzati e questo non mi piace,” ha dichiarato.

“Se proprio devi perdere, è preferibile farlo quando gli avversari giocano meglio. L’Aston Villa si è mossa bene, ma anche il Chelsea.”

“Sui calci piazzati dobbiamo sicuramente migliorarci perché è nelle nostre possibilità, dobbiamo marcare più stretto e con più giocatori in area. La partita di oggi è girata intorno a questo.”

“A Wigan abbiamo commesso lo stesso errore, il primo gol era venuto su calcio piazzato, quindi dobbiamo fare meglio in questi frangenti perché sono importanti nell’economia di una partita. Dobbiamo essere più attenti in area,” ha continuato l’italiano.

“In Inghilterra ci sono molti calciatori bravi di testa ed è pericoloso, ma anche in Italia. Non è una novità.”

“Quando perdiamo una partita non siamo contenti ma fino a quel momento la squadra aveva giocato bene, facendo un buon lavoro, però su alcune cose possiamo fare meglio e i calci piazzati sono una di queste.”

Il manager del Villa, Martin O’Neill, era chiaramente contentissimo per la vittoria, ottenuta contro quello che ha definito un Chelsea ‘brillante’, aggettivo che gli è piaciuto usare.

“Credo che abbiamo giocato in modo brillante nel primo tempo e chiaramente nel secondo abbiamo dovuto badare a difenderci perché il Chelsea ci ha attaccati con veemenza, ma alla fine ce l’abbiamo fatta,” ha iniziato col dire. “Siamo stati leggeri in occasione del gol subito quindi aver rimediato è stato decisamente brillante.”

“Credo che chiunque dovesse finire davanti al Chelsea vincerà la Premiership. Credo che siano giocatori brillanti e hanno dimostrato di esserlo negli ultimi cinque o sei anni,” ha aggiunto prima di parlare dei due difensori centrali dei Blues.

“Quel che è successo oggi riguarda soltanto oggi, non è il caso di tirare conclusioni basandosi solo su questa partita. E’ un passo indietro per loro e un incentivo per noi, tutto qui. Terry ha giocato bene per tanto tempo e Carvalho lo conosco dai tempi in cui allenavo il Celtic e il Porto ci batté in finale di Coppa UEFA.”

“Personalmente credo che il Chelsea sia brillante, è davvero forte, in grado di giocare e riprendersi, ha grandi giocatori.”

E quei giocatori dovranno riprendersi in fretta, in tempo per l’incontro di Champions League con l’Atletico Madrid che si giocherà a metà settimana allo Stamford Bridge, gettandosi decisamente alle spalle quanto successo.

'Aston' Martin sta forgiando il nuovo Villa

Martin O’Neill sostiene che l’impostazione, la forza e la determinazione del Chelsea rendano i Blues il più duro degli avversari – ma insiste che al Villa si spera di batterli questo fine settimana.

Il boss del Villa ha esaltato la continuità del Chelsea, avendolo visto diventare una delle corazzate della Barclays Premier League negli ultimi cinque anni.

Ha detto: “Il Chelsea sta andando alla grande. E’ il frutto degli sforzi di un gruppo di giocatori che sono stati fenomenali per un lustro.”

Villa will battle it out at Villa Park for the precious three points against Chelsea.

Chelsea travels to Villa Park in search to extend their lead in the top of the Premiership. Chelsea will be without goal keeper, Petr Cech, as he is still serving his suspension. Coach Carlo Ancelotti will have to call on Hilario once again to guard the goal. During the international break, the Italian coach also secured both Brazilian Alex and Salomon Kalou for another 3 more years of their service with the West London club. Michael Ballack and Mikel are out injuried while Boswinga is doubtful to travel to Villa.

Aston Villa and Chelsea have in the past 3 years drawn more at Villa Park than finding a winner. Last season, Chelsea prevailed with a Nicolas Anelka 19^th minute winner and surely the Villains would not want this to happen. Chelsea Ancelotti will certainly play a passive game and get Villa to concede the mistakes during their build up.
