These 4.4 million year old hominid fossils sit within a critical early part of human evolution, and cast new and sometimes surprising light on the evolution of human limbs and locomotion, the habitats occupied by early hominids, and the nature of our last common ancestor with chimps.

An artist's rendition of Ardipithecus ramidus

UK Daily Mail—She lived at the dawn of a new era, when chimps and people began walking (or climbing) along their own evolutionary trails. This is Ardi – the oldest member of the human family tree we’ve found so far.

Short, hairy and with long arms, she roamed the forests of Africa 4.4million years ago.

Her discovery, reported in detail for the first time today, sheds light on a crucial period when we were just leaving the trees. Some scientists said she could provide evidence that our ancestors first started walking upright in the pursuit of sex.

Conventional wisdom says our earliest ancestors first stood up on two legs when they moved out of the forest and into the open savannas. But this does not explain why Ardi’s species was bipedal (able to walk on two legs) while still living partly in the trees.

Owen Lovejoy from Kent State University said the answer could be as simple as food and sex.

He pointed out that throughout evolution males have fought with other males for the right to mate with fertile females. Therefore you would expect dominant males with big fierce canines to pass their genes down the generations.

But say a lesser male, with small stubby teeth realized he could entice a fertile female into mating by bringing her some food? Males would be far more successful food-providers if they had their hands free to carry home items like fruit and roots if they walked on two legs.

Mr Lovejoy said this could explain why males from Ardi’s species had small canines and stood upright – it was all in the pursuit of sex.

He added that it could also suggest that monogamous relationships may be far older than was first thought.

It retained an agility for tree-climbing but already walked upright on two legs, a transforming innovation in hominids, though not as efficiently as Lucy’s kin.
Ardi’s feet had yet to develop the arch-like structure that came later with Lucy and on to humans. The hands were more like those of extinct apes. And its very long arms and short legs resembled the proportions of extinct apes, or even monkeys.

Tim D. White of the University of California, Berkeley, a leader of the team, said in an interview this week that the genus Ardipithecus appeared to resolve many uncertainties about “the initial stage of evolutionary adaptation” after the hominid lineage split from that of the chimpanzees. No fossil trace of the last common ancestor, which lived some time before six million years ago, according to genetic studies, has yet come to light.

The other two significant stages occurred with the rise of Australopithecus, which lived from about four million to one million years ago, and then the emergence of Homo, our own genus, before two million years ago. The ancestral relationship of Ardipithecus to Australopithecus has not been determined, but Lucy’s australopithecine kin are generally recognized as the ancestral group from which Homo evolved.
But at 3.2 million years old, she was too recent and already too much like a human to reveal much about her primitive origins. As a result, researchers have wondered since her discovery in 1974, what came before her–what did the early members of the human family look like?

Now, that question is being answered in detail for the first time. A multinational team discovered the first parts of the Ar. ramidus skeleton in 1994 in Aramis, Ethiopia. At 4.4 million years old, Ardi is not the oldest fossil proposed as an early hominin, or member of the human family, but it is by far the most complete–including most of the skull and jaw bones, as well as the extremely rare pelvis, hands, and feet. These parts reveal that Ardi had an intermediate form of upright walking, a hallmark of hominins, according to the authors of 11 papers that describe Ardi and at least 35 other individuals of her species. But Ardi still must have spent a lot of time in the trees, the team reports, because she had an opposable big toe. That means she was probably grasping branches and climbing carefully to reach food, to sleep in nests, and to escape predators.

“Ardi” is clearly a human ancestor and her descendants did not grow up to be chimpanzees or other apes, the researchers report in Science.

She had an ape-like head and opposable toes that allowed her to climb trees easily, but her hands, wrists and pelvis show she strode like a modern human and did not knuckle-walk like a chimp or a gorilla.

“People have sort of assumed that modern chimpanzees haven’t evolved very much, that the last common ancestor was more or less like a chimpanzee and that it’s been … the human lineage … that’s done all the evolving,” White said.

But “Ardi” is “even more primitive than a chimpanzee,” White said.

So chimps and gorillas do not knuckle-walk because they are more primitive than humans — they have evolved this characteristic that helps them live in their forest homes.

White, Berhane Asfaw of Rift Valley Research Service in Addis Ababa and a large team analyzed all the bones of Ardi and found she might have been more peace-loving than modern chimpanzees. She does not have the long, sharp canines that chimps use to fight, for instance.

And males and females have similar-sized teeth, suggesting more equality than seen among modern apes.

A melhor alegria é a sincera.

Indagava-me.

Pilgrimage of the Heart: Kata Tjuta

In 2007 I was invited by a friend, Jean Berwick, to go with her, her colleague Grant Trewaneck, and a group of her Diamond Approach students on a trip to visit aboriginal communities and some of the sacred sites of Australia. I jumped at the chance. It felt as if someone had just opened a door for me and invited me to join them on a journey back home, and, as planetary service is important to me, this was an added incentive to go. My sense was that I was taking something back to Australia, perhaps returning a key to the land that would activate some life giving energies. As it turned out I was, indeed, taking something back, but I was blind to the true nature of the call that I had heard to go, and now, in retrospect, the sheer audacity and arrogance of that initial thought is still humbling to me.

I had been in Australia for several weeks before Jean and her group arrived. I’d taken that time to go horse-back riding in the Snowy Mountains south west of Sydney, and I’d been to Darwin to visit Kakadu National Park in the Northern Territory, and finally I had gone to stay with an old and dear friend in the hills north of Port Douglas, in Queensland. By the time my traveling companions arrived I really felt settled and familiar with some aspects of Australian life. I’d had a great time – I loved all the places I’d visited, and I was blown away by the beauty that I encountered, but the mysteries of the land remained just that, mysteries to me.

I met up with the 20 or so people that I was to travel with in Cairns, where our first port of call was to be welcomed and ‘smoked’ by an aboriginal healer with connections to the community that we were to visit a few days later, near Cape York. There wasn’t a thing about the suburban surroundings that signaled the intense connections that Edmund had to his land, but the warmth of his welcome, which extended beyond him to the kindness that his children and relatives showed us, was really heartwarming. He talked to us of the sacred nature of the lands that we were to travel to and how he was calling upon the spiritual guardians, introducing us, and if allowed, extending their welcome and safe passage to us. Like a gatekeeper, he was announcing our arrival! He invited each one of us in turn to stand in front of him once he had opened up the energies of the fire that he’d created from eucalyptus bark and local plants. Then he said a few words, invited us to say our names, and then ‘smoked’ us, a ritual where our energy fields were cleansed by the smokes of the fire. It was a short ceremony but nevertheless the effects were immediate. My month of travels around the country by myself had been amazing but now I felt the land under my feet in a way that I hadn’t before and I realized that this connection was what I had missed.

We traveled on from there to be with a community of Aboriginal people at Laura, a small town near Cape York. It was an experience that was profoundly life-altering. The connections we made with some of the community’s elders, and the depth of their forgiveness and desire for internal peace with the people who had so grievously wronged them was truly humbling. It was also deeply emotional as many of us felt our ancestral part in the great injustices that they had suffered. After five days of gatherings, exchanges, and teachings from them about their beliefs and their traditional ways, we left them and, following a short stay close to the Daintree rain forests near Port Douglas, we embarked on our final internal journey, to the center of the country, first to camp with a Pitjantjara community of aboriginals and then to visit the sacred site of Uluru. I knew from the moment that we boarded our plane for the short flight to Uluru that it was for this part of the journey that I had been called, but I still didn’t know why!

As we approached the small tourist town and airport of Ayers Rock I felt my emotions rise. I looked out of the window, and there was the great red rock of Uluru below us. It is iconic, and up close, completely awe-inspiring. And then I turned my head a little and saw a group of much smaller rocks rising out of the dry Australian bush, and I burst into tears. That was it – that was the place that called me. It was Kata Tjuta, part of the Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. Once known as The Olgas, these closely knit rocks – whose native name means ‘Many Heads’ – are part of this Aboriginal sacred park, but they are not somewhere that the majority of tourists have ever heard of and often they aren’t even visited. I couldn’t take my eyes off them. I felt the pull of my heart and experienced a strong intuition that this was where I was coming ‘home’ to. I craned my neck to be in eye contact with Kata Tjuta as long as I could, knowing that I was still days away from getting there. The strange thing was that I felt them the whole time we were at Uluru, like a constant subliminal call to my being.

We had set aside nearly two days to be at Uluru, to walk around it and to experience the place slowly and peacefully. Ayers Rock tourist village was crowded, and as I waited that first morning to meet my friends at the front of our hotel, another foreign tourist approached me. He wanted to know how long it would take him to climb Uluru. He was standing right by a sign asking tourists to refrain from climbing Uluru out of respect for the sacred nature of the rock to the aboriginal peoples. I asked him why he would want to when it was posted everywhere that this was a place of great sacred and cultural significance and that the guardians of the Park were asking people to respect their wishes. The man looked really put out. ‘They haven’t said ‘don’t’’, he said. He had come here to see Uluru and he wanted to climb it, no matter what. Even now Australian politicians publically debate why this climb should be banned, why the aboriginal wishes and beliefs should be respected. And strangely, each year people are killed as they make the climb, and stories abound of acts of ill fortune that befall significant numbers of those who willfully climb this sacred monument within a year of their visit. One of the things that I had learnt at Cape York with the community of Aboriginals we spent time with was that it is not in their language to ask a direct question or request something in the categorical way that we experience as usual in our western world. To say ‘NO’ is anathema to them. All their public signs are courteously voiced in a language that speaks of their wishes but makes no demands. It occurred to me that even today we haven’t learnt how to listen to them and hear their requests.

In Aboriginal wisdom, Uluru is believed to be the center of their spiritual world. In addition, both Uluru and Kata Tjuta have important places in the creation stories that the local people the Anangu, recall. They walk these stories into life, so that the land, the people and their beliefs become indivisible. There are also many places of sacred ceremony at Uluru which are reserved for purely ‘men’s business’ or ‘women’s business’, and yet the overall feel is distinctly feminine. As you circle the rock, signs tell you that here is a place of woman’s dancing; there is a place of male gathering. I walked with two old friends of mine, Ann and Sandi, and as we started we introduced ourselves to the spirits there, as Edmund had taught us in Cairns. And then we waited to be greeted. It happened so fast, and with such clarity. We all heard music and felt the rhythm of music around us and felt the welcome of the women guardians of the rock. We moved and then danced to the music, and stayed and savored their greeting before we started our walk. Like pilgrimages in many ancient cultures, we experienced the sacred nature of the walk in a circ-ambulation of the site, in a walking meditation. Uluru has so many different faces and so many different energies that call to you. It is alive with life. We stopped many times and marveled at the different qualities of the energies we encountered. In each place that we paused, we were in communication with the land and its spirit. Uluru seemed to all of us to be teeming with people whose existence was separated from our own by only a gossamer thin veil.

On our final morning I woke up knowing that today was the day. We were to visit Kata Tjuta. I was highly charged with emotion, nervous, not knowing what was in front of me but knowing that I was to find out the nature of my call. Funnily, that morning there was alot of turmoil within our group. Everyone seemed a little off key and as we set out there were the rumblings of tired and unsettled people amongst our group. As you approach Kata Tjuta there is a view point where you can stop your car. An elevated platform gives a remarkably clear view, and a sign tells you what plants you might be seeing as you look. Unlike Uluru whose sacred qualities are broadcast on site and, to some degree or other, around the world, at Kata Tjuta there are no clues to its cultural and ceremonial significance and none that request that you respect its sacred nature – nothing speaks about the incredible power of the place. It is as if you are shown the jewel, but only if you recognize it will you realize that you are in the presence of one of the most significant places of this planet, a place where the original pulse of creation is assessable, and this incredibly profound place is hidden in plain sight. At least, that is how it seemed to me.

Kata Tjuta is said to be a place of great significance for male ceremonial initiations, many of which are rumored to take place at night. As the form of Uluru is of sensually rounded and curved, weathered sandstone, some of the formations at Kata Tjuta evoke male genitalia. Here the wind-bitten rocks are made up of a conglomerate, a composite of materials including granite, sandstone and basalt, and the energetic feel is much different. They seem to shimmer and vibrate in a way that challenges how one experiences space, as if one is witnessing form moving in and out of its state as solid matter.

As we got ready to begin our walk, Jean and Grant, our leaders, started to talk to us about the nature of this place. My attention kept wandering. My heart felt like it might explode, and I wanted to go. I started slowly on my journey leaving my companions to decide whether they wanted to walk round the circuitous pathway that tourists are allowed to travel either towards the Valley of the Winds, which was where I knew I had to go, or on a shorter path to Waipa Gorge. As it turned out, many chose the latter, too tired to stretch another physical inch further! Jean accompanied them. Grant came with the rest of our group, shepherding us unobtrusively from the back. As we dropped down from the entrance my memory started to be activated. I felt that I knew every step that I was taking. My feet on the uneven ground remembered that they had been here before. It was all so familiar. I was shaking to my core, finding it hard to plant my feet in the present day reality, moving steadily into another space, into another time. I was going quite slowly as I picked my way, looking at the rocks around me and stopping to take in the birds and the plants along the path. It wasn’t long before I was one of the back markers!

About a third of the way round the trail, I crossed a dry river bed and the path curved round. I climbed a little and found that I was walking along the bottom of a wall which seemed to form one section of a giant amphitheater, which I came to think of as The Cathedral. The wall sloped gently and I sat down to rest for a moment. The path followed on to my left moving between this majestic wall and a huge edifice of shimmering stone, quite phallic in appearance, which seemed to me to be part of a ‘gateway’ leading to the next section of the trail. Ann dropped down beside me, and we both looked out to the far side without saying a word. I felt as if I was falling into a trace, and I just let myself go. I experienced the land beneath me dropping away, and I felt like I was falling through gravity into another space, another dimension, existing here but now on some invisible plain. And then I recognized that this was what this journey was about. It wasn’t about bringing some ‘key’ back to the land in the sense that I had imagined. The key was ME. I was bringing myself back to remember an ancient part of my being that had always existed on the land, here at Kata Tjuta. As I reached a place that felt to me like a place of pure unadulterated creation, the energetic journeying slowed and I moved more deeply into a dream state.

I could see in my mind’s eye that I was walking towards these enormous gates which were opening up to reveal a verdant, lush, savanna, a paradise where I was greeted by the most beautiful people – my people – and I was welcomed home. Even retelling it brings tears to my eyes. In that moment of reunion I felt an enormous relaxation in my being. I had answered the call of my heart and in doing so I had reconnected with an ancient aspect of Self and all the wisdom that comes with that. I tasted again a love that I hadn’t experienced in this life before, in the embrace of these ancient beings of my heart, and I was overflowing with joy, like a parched traveler coming upon an oasis after eons in the desert. But, I was rapidly presented with a choiceless choice – to stay or go back. I knew I had to return here, now, to my 21st century life. My heart overflowed with the emotion of this parting – to have found ‘my tribe’ but then to have to walk away again. It was heartbreaking for me. I was catapulted from Joy to an all encompassing grief. As I turned and walked back through the gates, I was immediately transported up through the energetic layers that had taken me there, back into the gravitational pull of the earth, and into my body planted on the rock beside Ann. I was shaking from the tiniest particles of my matter outwards. I felt Ann holding me with her incredible energy field, quietly sitting there and helping me to re-regulate my body back into present time and space, and I saw that Grant too was sitting a little distance away like a respectful guardian. After a little while Ann moved away and continued on her journey, but I couldn’t stand, I couldn’t ground myself in the present well enough for a considerable time and I was still overcome with grief. The reconnection I had experienced was so profound and the parting – never a strong point for me anyway – was intense.

Valley of the Winds

Grant waited silently and supportively with me until I felt strong enough to stand and put my weight back into my feet and then he lead me out through the ‘gateway’ into the land beyond. As we stepped through our path was strewn with yellow petals recently fallen from an avenue of trees, a golden carpet of color that seemed to speak of the sacred nature of the experience I had just had, like the petals strewn before a couple just joined in marriage. I too felt that I was walking down a path into a brand new chapter of my life. Ahead of us, in the distance was The Valley of the Winds appearing, with each step, like some magical field. We were gazing onto the most sacred and ancient of lands, still kept as almost inaccessible to a casual visitor. I felt this to be the heart of Kata Tjuta, the inner sanctum of this very spiritual place. To look at it from afar was a privilege, to experience it at first hand would be powerful indeed. I feel sure that only those given the blessing of the land and her aboriginal guardians – perhaps only men entering into an important initiation – can go there in safety.

We left the Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park the next morning, and returned to Sydney the same day – moving between worlds so fast! I so wanted to go back to Kata Tjuta, but in truth, I don’t know if I would have been able to stand its potent energies after the life changing events of the previous day. I was still reeling from my experiences, and would continue to do so for months to come. As I traveled back to the States, I was astounded by the number of profound teachings and blessings that I had received – not just from Kata Tjuta and her Ancient Ones, but about the heart, ancient civilizations, time and space, and relationship. They were all valuable life lessons in love, tolerance, forgiveness, and humility, and I felt that my beliefs and horizons had been widened expediential.

One day I hope I can return.

APRENDENDO A JOGAR

Isto leva-me a duas importantes conclusões:
1ª – Os marcadores genéticos humanos e em concreto os ligados à nossa matriz sanguínea, “falam-nos” de hábitos ancestrais que o nosso corpo registou ao longo de milhares de anos e que nos permitiram sobreviver sem a alta tecnologia da medicina, mas saudáveis e felizes. Deste modo, quanto mais garantirmos a perduração dos hábitos alimentares “instintivos/ancestrais” e nos afastarmos dos ALIMENTOS INADEQUADOS (desde logo todos aqueles que a indústria dos alimentos e, também, as autoridades nos querem fazer crer que são bons, bem como os que não respeitem a nossa matriz genética/sanguínea), melhor saúde, mais vitalidade e mais felizes seremos;
Cultive as amizades e o sentido do humor.

SHAMANITE -Rare North American Black Calcite Master Shamanite is the name given to a carbon-infused

SHAMANITE -Rare North American Black Calcite

Master Shamanite is the name given to a carbon-infused Black Calcite from the Rocky Mountains of the USA. It contains many trace minerals & micro-fossils.
Mystic Lore - Intuitive sources say that Master Shamanite is the finest stone for spiritual purification and the emergence of one’s Diamond Self, the perfected pattern of one’s being. It carries the spiritual codes of DNA, for manifesting one’s full potential in the physical world. It aids in clearing all sorts of negativity & in awakening to one’s spiritual destiny as the human Tree of Life.

Metaphysical Legends & Attributes of Shamanite Warm to the skin, Shamanite emanates a protective and positive ancestral vibration. Paleozoic spiral shells captivate the lapidary imagination, and sparkling pyrites, crystals and marcasites generate a distinctive EM field. Tribal medicine people and Singers from the Four Corners region have verified this material is known to them as a protective stone, and carries with it the power to heal spiritual wounds, ancestral troubles and grief. Small nuggets of the smoky brown Shamanite called Toho (Mountain Lion) have been used as protective amulets for Indian children in the past. Within a few years of its discovery by the modern world, Shamanite has been recognized, employed and praised by crystal healers, psychics, therapists and artists in Japan, North America, Britain and Europe. Today, it is on the Top 10 Power Stones list by Japanese spiritual and shamanic crystal healers.

Metaphysical attributes include: Shielding the wearer from psychic attack, envy and the resentment of others Absorbs negativity Purifying; strengthens resistance Deepens trancework Assists with broken hearts, grief and mourning lost loves. Remembering past lives, submerged memories and critical karmic lessons.

Personal comments about Shamanite:

“Strong circles of power come from the heart of this stone. Very deep spiritual protection from the Old Ones for those with no voice. I’ve heard about Toho stones used in fetish carvings; but, have never seen one before now.”

“Remarkable. The little Shamanite dolphin smolders with warmth. Placed upon a closed chakra, it behaves as a energy key — opening and healing. The large specimen is cool, like a cave opening, and draws me into the far-distant past. “

“My grandmother had one of these black mountain stones to soak up the bad thoughts of others … like sorcery, jealousy or envy. She took it with her. I cleanse with this stone now before Blessing Way and Enemy Way sings for those in trouble. It is good.”

“Something wonderful glows from this Shamanite. An Earth angel. Past lives, lost memories and Karma patterns can be sensed by the querant…best with the eyes closed.”

“No one believes until they hold it (polished slab) close to their heart. In every case, a Mountain Spirit or Deva appears and brings a message from Spirit. Thanks again.”

“Shamanite has triggered very detailed ancestral DNA and past-life memories … essential for my art. Clients who come for divinations are touched by Shamanite’s deep-level help with grief and old karma stories.”

We consider this one of the strongest Power Stones. Shiyamanaito (Shamanite) helps a person with their helplessness or feelings of grief. Close your eyes when using it. There is help from infinite outer space within it…it will bring a miracle.

Joe Johnston – Director, Andrew Kevin Walker – Writer (screenplay), David Self – Writer (screenplay), Curt Siodmak – Writer (1941 motion picture screenplay), and Benicio Del Toro – Producer

Production:

In March 2006, Universal Pictures announced the remake of The Wolf Man with actor Benicio del Toro (a fan of the original film and collector of Wolf Man memorabilia) in the lead role. Screenwriter Andrew Kevin Walker was attached to the screenplay, developing the original film’s story to include additional characters as well as plot points that would take advantage of modern visual effects. Del Toro also looked towards Werewolf of London and The Curse of the Werewolf for inspiration.

In February 2007, director Mark Romanek was attached to helm The Wolfman. The film was scheduled for a November 12, 2008 release, before being pushed back to early 2009 in September 2007. In January 2008, Romanek left the project because of “creative differences”. Brett Ratner emerged as a frontrunner to replace Romanek, but the studio also met with Frank Darabont, James Mangold and Joe Johnston. They were also interested in Bill Condon, and Martin Campbell was interested. Johnston was hired to direct on February 3, 2008, and the film’s shooting schedule and budget remained as intended. Johnston hired David Self to rewrite the script.

Shooting took place from March 3 to June 23, 2008 in the United Kingdom. The film was budgeted at US$85 million. They shot at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire, Chatsworth, Derbyshire, and Castle Combe in Wiltshire. They transformed Chatsworth House by adding weeds, dead grass and ivy. They also shot in Lacock in Wiltshire, a village conserved by the National Trust for Places of Historic Interest or Natural Beauty, for a day. Universal donated £5000 to the village, in return for filming in the tithe barn for a scene involving frozen corpses. A funeral scene was also shot beside the Temple of Ancient Virtue at Stowe House for the duration of an afternoon, the temple coated in false ivy with copious amounts of smoke/mist floating over the setting. Pick-ups at Pinewood were conducted in May 2009.

Rick Baker created the make-up for The Wolfman. When he heard Universal was remaking the film, he eagerly pursued it, as both The Wolf Man and Frankenstein inspired him to become a make-up artist as a child. He acknowledged transforming del Toro was difficult because he is a hairy man: “Going from Benicio to Benicio as the Wolf Man isn’t a really extreme difference. Like when I did An American Werewolf in London, we went from this naked man to a four-legged hound from hell, and we had a lot of room to go from the transformation and do a lot of really extreme things. Here we have Benicio del Toro, who’s practically the Wolf Man already, to Benicio del Toro with more hair and bigger teeth.”

From left to right: Rick Baker, Emily Blunt, and Benicio del Toro

Baker and del Toro were adamant about the design resembling the make-up created by Jack Pierce, but Romanek went through thousands of concept art. When Johnston signed on, Baker returned to his second design, which is the finished result. The make-up took three hours to apply, and one hour to remove. New pieces of latex prosthetic makeup and loose hair was applied to del Toro’s face each day, while several dentures and wigs were created in case some were damaged. Baker said the transformation will likely be computer-generated, which disappoints him as he is not being involved and therefore feels it will look unrealistic (as the animators do not have his knowledge of the design). In February 2009, ZBrush art of the transformation by Baker leaked online. In addition to the film, at the 2009 “Halloween Horror Nights,” Universal Studios Florida is adding The Wolfman to the event.

It’s 6:05 am and it’s freezing. I’m here at the airport and I’m wearing beach shorts. I was hoping that the weather was better oh well. That’s life. So funny thing my mom had this weird meeting scheduled at the airport gate lounge – two engineers and a secretary of a congressman. Weird.

I on the other hand am just quietly bearing the cold and hoping I could be beamed straight to San Jacinto. I’m actually writing so mike could read this. I hope he is. I know your having a busy week! But always good to keep in touch!

There are a lot if foreigners here, well that’s expected
