I promise….this is the first and last time i’ll put you through this…….

But it’s my first blog and i thought you should know a little about me, how i got started, blah blah blah.

I was born into a household where music wasn’t really prevalent. My dad was stuck in the talk radio world and my mom was an oldies/beatles lover. Every once in a while my dad would treat me to some classic rock legends like Led Zeppelin, The Doors, Jimi Hendrix, Cream, Iron Butterfly, Janis Joplin…….you get the point. Anything rap or hip hop was strictly forbidden in my household. I was in 5th grade when i got my first Beastie Boys cassette tape (yeah thats right). I got it at an air show parking lot. I snuck that shit into my house, headed straight for the bathroom with my lil’ boom box, plugged in my headphones, sat on the toilet, and listened. I loved that shit. The coolest kid on the playground had Paul Revere memorized……From that came Run DMC, and Eazy-Duz-It soon followed……

I had a lot of school changes as a kid and I was always trying to fit in. I adopted the whole Metal thing for a while. My introduction to this was Appetite For Destruction, the And Justice for All, Season’s in the Abyss, Lucifuge, Dead Embryonic Cells etc….. I had a few bands in highschool playing speed metal and Slow Core but we were all too fucked up to do anything with it. Somehow in the midst of all that thrash shit i was introduced to funk music. I liked the change and the “lightness” of all that stuff. I was listening to all of the obvious shit, Parliament, AWB, The Gap Band, Roy Ayers, Isaac Hayes, Kool and the Gang….. College came and I was introduced to Drum and Bass music; the old school raga style shit. I loved it. Shortly after I was introduced to House music. I failed out of college and moved to Venice Beach. I started getting into the club scene and rave scene. I felt at the time like I had finally found people and sounds I could relate to. I started going to these afterhours parties at this kids loft in Downtown LA and he had turntables set up. Every night he would play for us and every mix he would wreck. I asked him if i could try figuring that i couldn’t be worse than him. He showed me what the pitch control does, the crossfader and the volume faders and let me go. That night i matched my first beat……it was one of those things that just came to me. Do to circumstances of life (hahahahha), I found myself living in my friend’s garage for a while. The good part is he had turntables and a shit load of records. I spent months just practicing hardly sleeping obsessed with mixing……that was the beginning

I was a vinyl dj only from 97′ til 2005. FUCK CDJ’s and IPODS!!!!! In 2005 I was introduced to Serato and that changed my life. It broadened my library, furthered my mixing skills and creativity. In addition, it has allowed me the opportunity to travel the world playing music without all the heavy lifting.

I am grateful for the career that I have been able to create and the for the people who have helped me get to where I am today…….

Ok……..thats enough backround.

Ugh. The happiest day of my year, each of the last 8 years before this one was always the day the Yankees would be eliminated for the year. There was nothing like watching the locker room of Yankees on the verge of tears choking back their frustrations as they answered humiliating questions about why the highest paid team in baseball just choked again.

But this year, there is no Christmas, the dreaded has happened. And it’s an awful night to be a Yankee-hater living in the Bronx. And I expect it to be an awful 12 months ahead in this respect. For the rest of my feelings on the subject, I defer to Mr. Hetfield and company, who express them far better than I could:

Metallica: ¿Vendidos o no?

La mayoría de los fans antiguos de la banda, opinan que está se vendió por dejar de hacer thrash metal (su género inicial) para comercializarse. Muchos de los fans nuevos comenzaron escuchando la banda por discos como “Load” “Reload” “St. Anger” o el famoso “Black album“.

Metallica: ¿Paso a ser una banda comercial?

Para mi Metallica siempre fue una banda comercial, si no lo fuera, no hubiera sacado sus discos a la venta. Si hicieron música y publicaron sus discos, lo hicieron para vender, porque si quisieran hacer música “por amor al arte” no publicarían sus discos en venta.

Ahora, pónganse en su lugar. Si a ustedes les darían la posibilidad de ganar más dinero cambiando su estilo de música para que le llegue mas a la gente. ¿Qué harían?, no creo que digan que no tan fácilmente.

Las bandas no viven de sus fans, viven del dinero que les traen. Y ese modelo de banda de metal que da todo por sus fans y no le importa el dinero, no existe.

No estoy defendiendo a Metallica, y a pesar de que yo también soy un fan que no le gusto muchas de las cosas que hicieron, los entiendo.

Antes y después…

Algunos dicen que Metallica murió en “…And justice for all“, otros dicen que murió en el “Black album“.

En mi opinión, los primeros 4 discos de Metallica fueron excelentes, luego llego el “Black album” y también, me pareció un excelente disco, pero distinto a los demás.

Luego cayeron una ola de discos que no parecía que fuese Metallica, pero en fin, puedo escuchar una canción de “Load” o “Reload” sin pensar “¡Que ~#@|@ es esto!“, a pesar de que no era eso lo que queríamos, no podemos decir que es malo!.

El “St. Anger” no me gusto para nada y me parece que musicalmente es muy malo, puro ruido (en mi opinión).

Por último vino el “Death Magnetic” que a mi parecer, es thrash y el mejor álbum después del “Black Album“. ¿Habrá sido un intento por recuperar los fans viejos perdidos? Tal vez.

Lo cierto es que Metallica me sigue gustando y los primeros discos que sacaron siguen estando y los podemos seguir escuchando.

Nadie nos obliga a escuchar el “St. Anger“, aunque entiendo la decepción de los demás fans.

One este o melodie a formaţiei de heavy metal Metallica, câştigatoare a unui premiu Grammy pentru secţiunea de cea mai bună performanţă metal.Melodia a fost lansată ca al 4-lea single de pe albumul “And Justice For All”.

În Primele 20 de secunde din melodie sunt mai multe serii de efecte cu temă de război: Bombardamente de artilerie şi zgomotul unui elicopter; apoi începe melodia propriu-zisă.
“One” are la baza compoziţională romanul “Johnny Got His Gun” de Dalton Trumbo.Este vorba despre povestea unui soldat care a fost grav rănit de către artileria Germană în timpul Primului Război Mondial.Acestea şi-a pierdut mâinile, picioarele, urechile, ochii, nasul şi gura şi nu putea vorbi, auzi sau mirosi însă mintea îi mergea perfect fiind astfel un prizonier în propriul său corp.

One a fost prima melodie cu videoclip a formaţiei Metallica.Videoclipul a debutat la MTV pe 20 Ianuarie 1989.El a fost produs în Long Beach, California fiind în totalitate alb şi negru prezentând trupa care cântă într-un depozit.Clipul mai surprinde şi secvenţe din filmul “Johnny Got His Gun” din 1971.

Thelema.6 świetnie znosi próbę czasu. Siła tej płyty nie tkwi w prędkości, a w ciekawych aranżacjach, zmianach tempach. Wiele się tu dzieje i nie jest to płyta, którą poznaje się w całości po pierwszych przesłuchaniach. [1]. Pisałem tak o niej w 2003 roku i mógłbym zrobić to również dzisiaj. Vinvm Sabbati i Antichristian Phenomenon to czołowi reprezentanci. Trudno mi napisać, czy to jej zawartość zmiotła z mojego odtwarzacza Zos Kia Cultus (Here and Beyond). Pokryta kurzem jest najrzadziej słuchanym tytułem wydanym przez Nergala i kompanów. Znacznie lepiej radzą sobie już kolejne dwa krążki Demigod oraz The Apostasy.
W 2005 roku o Demigod napisałem, że ta płyta jest idealnie ułożoną układanką. Wszystkie elementy zostały dopieszczone, złożone w jednolitą całość. Perfekcja w każdym obrocie krążka w odtwarzaczu. [2]. Dodałbym do tego jeszcze określenie teatralności, które wyłania się z zakamarków wyobraźni w czasie słuchania.
Zasadniczo to samo można by rzecz o kolejnej pozycji w dyskografii zespołu The Apostasy. W tym przypadku trzeba jednak być na tyle silnym by znieść skondensowany ostrzał i kanonadę. Znalazła się tu jednak cząstka ponadczasowości w postaci Inner Sanctum. Niezwykły klimat, również w stworzonym do niego obrazie, przyczynia się do włączenia play, z zaleceniem słuchania całości. Tym większa siła wspomnianej kompozycji.
Każdy wymieniony tytuł w momencie swojej premiery rozpierał swą siłą głośniki domowego sprzętu. Wzbudza pełen podziw w momencie swojej premiery i staje do walki z nieubłaganym czasem będąc dodatkowo w tej złej pozycji, że nieustająca machina Behemoth działa i tworzy bez chwili wytchnienia. Faktem skończonym jest w 2009 roku Evangelion – dziewiąta płyta zespołu.
To co wyróżnia ją już na wstępie to produkcja. Partie perkusji Inferno nagrane zostały pod wodzą Daniela Bergstranda. Człowiek ten ma na koncie współpracę z takimi nazwami jak Meshuggah, Strapping Young Lad, Soilwork czy In Flames. Bez żadnej wątpliwości dla mnie w adnym z tych zespołów nie spotkał się z takim tornadem jakie miało miejsce w gdańskim RG Studio. Realizacja to jedno, ale umiejętności Inferno stawiają go w chwili obecnej w pierwszym rzędzie z największymi bębniarzami. Przy którymś przesłuchaniu przeszło mi przez myśl, że Evangelion jest właśnie jego płytą. Zachęcam choć raz do przesłuchania jej skupiając się na samych instrumentach perkusyjnych. Trudno nie mieć wrażenia, że ktoś ma was ochotę zniszczyć, wgnieść, zmiażdżyć każdym swym uderzeniem. Mój faworyt w tym względzie na chwilę obecną to Alas, Lord Is Upon Me. Nie brakuje tu zupełnych kanonad (Transmigrating Beyond Realms ov Amenti). Zresztą przez całą płytę ma się wrażenie, że Inferno podporządkował sobie pozostałych kompanów.
Evangelion nie jest jednak slayerowskim Reign In Blood.
Przypomnę, że według legend płyta ta miała trwać co najmniej kilka minut dłużej. Dave Lombardo wykazał się taką szybkością, że thrashowy ołtarz mieści się w 28:25 minut.
Behemothowa Ewangelia to raczej metallikowy …And Justice For All. Tam również produkcja stawia grę Larsa Urlicha na równi z gitarami, co sprawia, że wydają się jakby przytłumione, pomimo swej riffowej genialności. Rzecz jasna, że to porównanie jest rzeczą stricte umowną. Muzycznie to w rzeczy samej niebo i piekło. Chociaż gdy tak jeszcze spojrzeć na czarno białe okładki z damami na ich przedzie? Zostawię to i wrócę do samej produkcji muzycznej.
Daniel Bergstrand to nie jedyny mistrz realizacji, który zasiadł za konsolą. Gitarami zajęli się bracia Sławek i Wojciech Wiesławscy. Jest mięsiście, czyli tak jak osobiście lubię. Najważniejsza jest jednak gra. Tu zarówno Nergal jak i Seth stawiają na swoje charakterystyczne krótkie riffy, częste zmiany i zwolnienia tempa. Taki Behemoth lubię już od Thelema.6. Co jednak stanowi o strunowej mocy tej płyty to przede wszystkim solówki. Obaj wiosłowi stanęli tu na wysokości działania (Lucyfer !!!). Dzięki nim muzyka nabrała niepowtarzalnego wymiaru.
Behemoth w 2009 roku to zespół przeplatający norweski smród palonych kościołów z perfekcją godną największych techników spod znaku Morbid Angel, czy nawet Messhuggah. Słucha się doskonale. Zasługa w tym ogromna kolejnej osobistości świata rockowego. Masteringu dokonał Ted Jensen, którego nazwisko kojarzyć powinniśmy z takimi nazwami jak Metallica, AC/DC, Norah Jones, czy Green Day. W zasadzie to przede wszystkim dzięki niemu można podziwiać tą potęgę, siłę i moc jaka bije z całego Evangelion.
Z jednym jednak ale.
Osobiście skróciłbym płytę do ośmiu pierwszych kompozycji. Dziewiątą, ostatnią, Lucyfer zamieściłbym na jakimś mini albumie. Zdaje sobie sprawę, że szkoda byłaby takiej kompozycji na wydawnictwie, które kupują najzagorzalsi. Jedna jej obecność na Evangelion sprawia, że zostajemy przeniesieni nagle w inny wymiar. Od pierwszego wysłuchania nasuwa mi się skojarzenie z katowskimi …Różami Miłości. Ten klimat, głos Maćka Maleńczuka, bliskie jest temu co stworzył Roman Kostrzewski z zespołem. Co się stało to się nie odstanie. Jednym razem można pominąć kompozycję opartą na wierszu Tadeusza Micińskiego, a innym włączyć tylko ją.
Sam krakowski bart nie zaskoczył. Ciekawa melorecytacja bez zastrzeżeń wpasowana w struktury tej prostej, ale zarazem klimatycznej kompozycji. Swoją droga to mając na uwadze maleńczukowy Homo Twist, ich Moniti Raven i zawarty na nim Bema pamięci żałobny rapsod, ciekawe czy komuś przeszło przez myśl połączenia wspólnych sił wydając obie kompozycje na przykład na singlu?
Sam Lucyfer, podobnie jak otwierający Daimonos,okraszony został ozdobnikami autorstwa Krzysztofa Siegmara Olosia (pod czujnym okiem Oriona), znanego choćby z rewelacyjnych sampli w Vesanii, czy Vaderze. Wywołują ciarki na ciele. Dodatkowo przerażający krzyk Nergala na otwarcie płyty sprawia, że przez chwilę nie wiadomo czy paść przed głośnikami, czy pochwycić broń i walczyć w imię Prawdy.
He Who Breeds Pestilence przywołał we mnie skojarzenia z introdukcją Kreatora z Pleasure To Kill. Polecam sprawdzeniu.
Czas niestrudzonej promocji. Zwarty czteroosobowy szwadron rusza by ze sceny udowadniać swoją wyższość. Pozostawić w słuchaczach jeszcze jedną cząstkę, która zagnieżdżona rozrośnie się z biegiem czasu. Ten nie pozwala mówić o Ewangelii w kategoriach dobrych czy złych. Płyta jest. Cieszy swą potęgą brzmieniową, pozwalając odkrywać niby już znane rejony, ale splecione łańcuchami przez ducha teraźniejszości. Czy pękną ogniwa czy zacisną się jeszcze mocniej? Zostawmy to machinie, którą od początku nikt nie potrafi powstrzymać.

So, I was going to put up the mix that I made to keep the guests at the weekend’s BBQs and festivities occupied, but that wasn’t nearly as enjoyable as this mix that comes straight with a discussion about ‘revolutionary’ music, or rather, war themes and the documents of the toils of war for a belief. I’m sure we missed a whole lot (PLEASE POST ADDITIONS!), but considering we were doing this on the fly here were the early “rules” 1) we couldn’t reuse any artist already used once 2) we had to avoid blatant protest songs, first one brought up was obviously Edwin Star “War” but a few still made it in because they were so seemingly appropriately crafted for balance and 3) “war” is the lose sense of the word, it didn’t have to be just about traditional military endeavor, it could be vaguer including political war and we weren’t looking up lyrics or interpretations, nor considering intention of them, only face interpretation… this was a pretty fun list to work with documenting the toil of war for beliefs.

"...And Justice For All" serves rights on a silver platter

On Jan. 29, 2009, steamy pancakes and sizzling bacon filled the hungry bellies of the Salt Lake community to help raise awareness of the services “…And Justice For All” provides.

Currently the majority of Utah’s low-income families that are facing civil legal problems do not know that legal aid programs exist and are right within their grasp. “…And Justice For All” is a sanctuary for these people, providing them with “silver platter” quality service at no cost to them.

“…And Justice For All” is an organization that receives money from federal and state grant programs. To promote services for all aspects of legal aid, the organization is the umbrella over three other agencies: the Legal Aid Society of Salt Lake, Utah Legal Services and the Disability Law Center.

The first requirement to receive pro bono help from this organization is to have a low income. Typically, a single mother cannot be making more than $14 per hour through her employment. The second requirement is the obvious one: a legal problem.

Many people are not aware as to what exactly constitutes a legal problem. They would be surprised to know that civil legal problems are so common, two out of three low-income households in Utah encounter a civil legal problem each year. Only 13 percent are receiving legal help.

“It has been around almost 10 years and people still say, ‘Oh, I didn’t know you guys existed!’” said Matt Knotts, executive director of the Disability Law Center.

The Disability Law Center mainly encounters abused and neglected clients. The center helps to protect the rights of people with disabilities in Utah.

According to “The Justice Gap,” a survey provided by “…And Justice For All,” about one-third of clients did not know where to turn for help and more than 22 percent felt it was too much hassle; 21 percent indicated they feared the cost. Unfortunately, 19 percent felt nothing could even be done and 17 percent did not think their problem was a legal issue.

“Other reasons for not seeking help included fear of retaliation, waiting to see if things change, feeling the problem is not important enough and an inability to speak enough English to seek legal counsel,” according to the study.

“We would love to get to the point of assisting as many people as other existing states,” said Kai Wilson, executive director of “…And Justice For All.” One of the most successful legal aid organizations is in Washington, which sets a high standard for legal aid organizations in other states.

Civil legal problems range from domestic violence, public housing disputes, police harassment and immigration issues.

Susan, who asked that her last name not be used to protect her from her ex-husband, is a client of Legal Aid Society of Salt Lake. She filed a protective order against her abusive husband to keep herself and her two children safe. Despite the protective order, Susan’s husband took the children to Florida without her consent. Legal Aid Society had police arrest Susan’s spouse and extradite him to Utah. With further help from Legal Aid, Susan filed for divorce and now has full custody of her children.

“…And Justice For All” strives to help Utahns like Susan who experience abuse and neglect. The organization works to offer equal and appropriate services to clients who might not otherwise be able to obtain aid due to cost or bad credit.

“’…And Justice For All’ is shedding light on the importance of social justice in our community, and not just the legal community,” Knotts said.

Although it may not literally be on a silver platter, the organization still succeeds in teaching the people of Utah their legal rights, as well as offering pro bono services.

One success story was told in “The Justice Gap” about Maria, a deaf client. A pro bono attorney was able to help Maria regain custody of her children from her spouse. “This attorney donated 50 hours in three months of pro bono work worth over $7,500 of billable hours,” Maria states on the organization’s Web site.

Attorney General Robert Kennedy said, “The poor man looks upon the law as an enemy, not as a friend. For him, the law is always taking something away.”

But for a majority of clients, many said they left feeling positive and unburdened from the legal system.
