Funny. I grew up in the Upstate of South Carolina, but I had never heard of Skin’s until I saw a documentary on hot dogs, maybe 10 years ago. Apparently they’ve been around since the ’50s and have a devoted following. Admittedly, I never felt totally assimilated into SC culture - I’m guessing my complete lack of a Southern accent gives that away – so it’s existence was never revealed to me while I lived there.

I pass one of their locations on the way to visit my parents, who now live in Anderson, and I finally persuaded my mom to join me for my first visit. And there it is. Hot dogs with mustard, onions and chili. No plates (and very little patience with you sitting very long to enjoy your food). Take out and counter service are available as well as table service.

The complete history of Skin Thrasher’s is laid out on the walls.

It’s depressing to wake up at half past three in the morning hoping to catch a Manchester United vic

It’s depressing to wake up at half past three in the morning hoping to catch a Manchester United victory and the first two names you see on the teamsheet are Ben Foster and Gary Neville. It’s even more disheartening trying to get back to sleep two hours later having seen them lose their first Champions League group match at home in eight years to a team who lost 8-0 to Liverpool on their last visit to England.

Still, Besiktas should be allowed to enjoy their moment, which undoubtedly their maniacal supporters will be doing. After all, smaller sides seldom feature in the Champions League headlines and a win at Old Trafford is a remarkable achievement considering that no Turkish team has won in England for eight years.

Top spot in the group should have been sealed last night but Fergie’s fledglings, in baseball terms, stepped up to the plate and struck out. There was a real lack of urgency and pressure from the men (or boys) in red which translated into a flat, disjointed performance against the Turkish champions. I guess Wolfsburg’s defeat in Moscow just prior to kick-off gave the players a false sense of confidence.

Gabriel Obertan and Danny Welbeck were the only ones to really emerge with any credit on a night when Anderson showed the world that having bags of potential alone is not enough to make one a quality footballer. He was the senior man in the central midfield and should have stamped his authority on the game but was time and again let down by his poor touches and wayward passing. I wonder if we will still be talking about how the Brazilian could be a great player when he is in his thirties.

Someone who is in his thirties but no longer a great player is Gary Neville, who looked as lost as Kanye West at a Taylor Swift concert. Today’s game, today’s players and today’s balls are all too fast for the club captain and retirement sooner rather than later is the inevitable option.

One thing that Neville can teach Federico Macheda is that you give 110 percent for that badge on your jersey situated above your heart. The young Italian displayed a defiant and petulant attitude that would even put Mr Grumpy himself – Dimitar Berbatov – to shame. It looks like he thinks he’s better than he actually is. It will be a waste to see a player with so much undoubted talent fall by the wayside and I hope Sir Alex Ferguson will be able to polish this gem and maybe add some detergent to clean his mouth.

A week after Ben Foster describe his life at United as frustrating, I would use that very same word to describe his performance on the night. The Turkish champions had two shots on goals in ninety minutes and he let one of them in. It might have taken a slight deflection off Rafael but he was nonetheless flat footed and not quick enough to get across the goal, not helped by his dubious starting position. It’s a testament to just how dire the England goalkeeping situation is that he still looks a certainty to be on the plane to South Africa next summer.

A bright spark on the night was Obertan who, despite some misplaced passes, provided good width and penetration down the right flank. It was a positive performance from the former Bordeaux starlet who not only displayed some excellent off the ball movement but also the confidence to want the ball played to him at every available opportunity.

I don’t agree that there was very little at stake in this match. Finishing as group runners-up not only increases your chances of facing Barcelona or Real Madrid in the next round but also means that United plays their first leg at home, where away goals could play a big part.

Of course, winning the group could still see United being paired up with either of the Milan sides. But compared to last season, I cannot confidently say that the Red Devils can get a goal or two at the Nou Camp or San Siro.

The youngsters whom Sir Alex placed his faith should have grabbed this opportunity on the big stage by the scruff of the neck. Instead, we are left wondering about the long term futures of the likes of Darron Gibson, Macheda and most alarmingly, Anderson. There is definitely potential in these players but what differentiates the Messis and Kakas of this world from the rest is the realization of that ability and performing when it matters most on the pitch.

This defeat has made it a somewhat drab Thanksgiving for Sir Alex as he gathers for dinner with wife Cathy and his three sons. Still, it’s a much happier place to be than at the Benitez household.

A minha pesquisa, me assustou.

Ray Anderson (born October 16, 1952 in Chicago, Illinois) is an independent jazz trombone and trumpe

Ray Anderson (born October 16, 1952 in Chicago, Illinois) is an independent jazz trombone and trumpet player. Anderson is a boisterous trombonist who is masterful at multiphonics. Trained by the Chicago Symphony trombonists, he is regarded as pushing the limits of the instrument. He is a contemporary and colleague of trombonist/composer George Lewis. Anderson also plays Sousaphone and sings.

After spending study time in California, he moved to New York in 1973 and freelanced. In 1977, Anderson joined Anthony Braxton’s Quartet (replacing George Lewis) and started working with Barry Altschul’s group. From this point forward he started ranking high in polls and becoming influential himself. In addition to leading his own groups since the late ’70s (including the funk-oriented Slickaphonics), Anderson has worked with George Gruntz’s Concert Jazz Band. In the ’90s, he began taking an occasional good-humored vocal, during which he shows the ability to sing two notes at the same time (a minor third apart).

The prolific Anderson also has demonstrated his special supportive skills on a remarkably wide assortment of albums by David Murray, Charlie Haden’s Liberation Music Orchestra, Dr. John, Luther Allison, Bennie Wallace, Gerry Hemingway, Henry Threadgill, John Scofield, Roscoe Mitchell, Randy Sandke’s Inside Out Band, Sam Rivers’ Rivbea Orchestra, Bobby Previte and others. Anderson is also a member of Jim Pugh’s Super Trombone with Dave Bargeron and Dave Taylor.

The trombonist Ray Anderson inhabits two simultaneous worlds. He’s dedicated to exploring new

The trombonist Ray Anderson inhabits two simultaneous worlds. He’s dedicated to exploring new vocabularies at the furthest reaches of what folks call jazz music, making his initial mark with fellow Chicagoan Anthony Braxton in the late ’70s. He’s also deeply attuned to the New Orleans roots of the music, reveling in the very vocal nature of his horn and employing a rowdy repertoire of singing, droning and mute-manipulations, combining into a language that is at once comic and experimental. Here, his main outlet is the Pocket Brass Band. All this and there’s his commitment to funk too, notably with the ’70s-80s combo Slickaphonics.

Anderson seems to have been forging a new relationship with Cornelia Street Cafe, appearing twice there in recent months: first with tubaman Bob Stewart and then with his own quartet in October. The first set of this last gig was devoted to new material, which Anderson hopes to record in coming months. His performance was as hot-wired as ever, soloing with extroverted abandon, his involved phrases brought home with a powerful punch. His mute manipulations are exceedingly articulate, ribald and poignant in turn. His agility on the sometimes slow-talking ‘bone is phenomenal. The new tunes mingled linear themes and abstract attacks, the latter mostly made by Anderson himself and drummer Gerry Hemingway.

Two months later and the trombonist’s back at Cornelia again, this time set to play a duo session with bassman Mark Dresser. Like most of Anderson’s musical relationships, their roots burrow deep. “I met Mark in 1975, when he first came up to New York, through mutual friends David Murray and Stanley Crouch,” he recalls. Murray had invited Dresser to stay in his loft while he was away on tour. Anderson was already living there.

“I’d been here a couple of years, moving in ‘73,” says Anderson, sitting in Rohr’s coffee shop, near to his Upper East Side apartment, to a themed background of jazz records and clattering silverware. “We did play a bunch of duo gigs, back in the day. It was a musical thing immediately. With Dresser, he’s one of those people where you have this experience of meeting somebody and playing with them and the communication, the sensibility, is totally connected right away. It’s just easy! There’s a really good feeling immediately. He’s certainly one of the most immediately recognizable bassists alive. That’s Mark Dresser! Nobody else does that! He worked in my band a lot. I used to work mostly as a quartet, from ‘86 into the early ’90s. Dresser was often the bass.”

By the end of 1975, the pair had played their first duo gig in New Haven, but it took until 2003 before Anderson and Dresser released their only recorded duo set so far, Nine Songs Together, on the CIMP label. The repertoire is mainly divided between the two of them, with Dresser contributing “The Five Outer Planets” mini-suite, which was commissioned for an exhibition of sculptures by Robert Taplin. These were enormous pieces that were filled with light. Anderson’s pivotal number was “Taps For Jackie,” written as a memorial for his recently-deceased wife. “It’s the poetic interpretation of song,” he says, attempting to define the trombone/bass chemistry. “It’s a vocal music, as opposed to a note-orientated way or a theoretical way. We sing and we talk. We’ll be doing this stuff, but lots of other stuff that I write could be played as a duo version. That’s always a really interesting change.”

He also received a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts for a series of solo trombone concerts.

While pushing his sound into the future, Anderson has frequently returned to his early love of New Orleans music for inspiration. His Alligatory Band as well as his Pocket Brass Band, featuring tuba great Bob Stewart, are rooted in its tradition.

Since 2003 he has taught and conducted at Stony Brook University.

Are Matthew Stafford and Brady Quinn the most poised quarterbacks in the NFL or what? Okay, well maybe they’re not, but they did pretty well when their brutal teams matched up this afternoon. After trailing 24-3 in the first quarter, Stafford led the Lions back, winning 38-37 on the final play of the game on a one-yard hookup with Brandon Pettigrew. The touchdown, Stafford’s fifth of the game, came after a Hank Poteat pass interference call on a desperation hail mary the previous play.

Stafford, who came in with six touchdown passes on the year, threw for 422 yards. Quinn, who took back Cleveland’s starting duties from Derek Anderson last week, threw for 304 yards and a career-high four touchdowns.

Elsewhere, the Colts and Saints stayed undefeated, with Indy winning a 17-15 grinder in Baltimore and New Orleans cruising 38-7 in Tampa Bay. Peyton Manning threw for 299 yards and a touchdown for the Colts and Drew Brees had 187 and three for the Saints.

Other scores from Sunday: Dallas 7, Washington 6 (Game of the Year?); Green Bay 30, San Francisco 24; Kansas City 27, Pittsburgh 24 (OT); Minnesota 35, Seattle 9; NY Giants 34, Atlanta 31 (OT); Jacksonville 18, Buffalo 15 (Terrell Owens had 197 yards receiving — quadrupling his season output to this point); New England 31, NY Jets 14; Arizona 21, St. Louis 13; San Diego 32, Denver sans Orton 3; Oakland! 20, Cincinnati 17.

The Andersen 100 Series WIndowf features environmentally responsible and third-party-certified construction, economical price, and energy-saving performance.

Recycled content is an important component in the construction of 100 Series products. The overall amount of recycled content is certified by Scientific Certification Systems (SCS) and ranges from a minimum of 18% – 24% pre-consumer recycled glass and wood fiber content based on the National Fenestration Rating Council-rated standard window size in single-hung, casement, awning, picture and gliding window styles.

Andersen achieves this by manufacturing the 100 Series from the company’s patented Fibrex® material. Fibrex material is a highly sustainable structural composite that blends the best attributes of sawdust and polymer – much of it reclaimed directly from Andersen’s manufacturing plant operations. It combines the strength and stability of wood with the low-maintenance features of vinyl. Independent testing has found that Fibrex material has a low thermal expansion and contraction rate, is resistant to rotting and termites, and retains its rigidity and stability in high temperatures.

Andersen 100 Series products also have received SCS Indoor Advantage™ Gold certification for indoor air quality. This level of certification meets North America’s strictest indoor air emission criteria, namely the California Section 01350 Specification, the strictest emission standard in the U.S.

“There’s a lot of engineering that goes into Andersen products and you really notice it in our new 100 Series windows and patio doors,” said Blaine Verdoorn, marketing manager at Andersen. “This product line is tailored to the likes and needs of builders in the West, and we know they and their customers will appreciate its sustainable design.”

Andersen 100 Series windows feature a clean, contemporary design and are available in single-hung, gliding, casement, awning and specialty fixed styles in more than 1,200 sizes and can be specified in more than 20,000 combinations. There are four exterior color options available: White, Sandtone, Terratone®, and Cocoa Bean. All have matte finishes and white interiors.

There are 48 glass options including the new Andersen SmartSun™ Low-E glass, standard Low-E glass, dual-pane and specialty glass. Finelight™ grilles-between-the-glass are available, with a sculpted profile and duplex color capability, so the interior and exterior colors match those of the window.

Windows with SmartSun glass can also help homeowners save money with a tax credit. As part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment act of 2009, the legislation allows for significant federal tax credits for “qualified energy efficient improvements,” which includes windows, doors and skylights. Just visit our website at www.andersenwindows.com to find a link to the tax credit information. Or, visit the Energy Star Web site for more information, www.energystar.gov/index.cfm?c=windows_doors.pr_taxcredits.

Builders and architects will appreciate that 100 Series windows can help earn up to 17 LEED points in the Energy & Atmosphere category, up to 13 LEED points in the Materials & Resources category, and up to 15 LEED points in the Indoor Environmental Quality category. Andersen® 100 Series windows meet ENERGY STAR® qualifications in all climate zones.

As a charter member of the U.S. Green Building Council, Andersen has designed the 100 Series product line to last and reduce future waste streams. Fibrex® material is durable, long-lasting and can be reclaimed to make new windows, and the products are protected by minimal packaging to help reduce cardboard usage, jobsite waste, and shipping costs. Andersen also is committed to using only wood from sources certified by the Forestry Stewardship Council, Sustainable Forestry Initiative or similar organizations.

I’ve had this theory about The Fantastic Mr. Fox ever since it popped on to IMDB. If stop mot

I’ve had this theory about The Fantastic Mr. Fox ever since it popped on to IMDB. If stop motion animation didn’t work for Wes Anderson nothing would.

Since the Royal Tenenbaums, or even before, Anderson has surrounded himself with actors, crew, and writers that love him like the benevolent micro managing dictator of a South American island. And because no one is saying No to him anymore, Anderson’s quirks and flaws have magnified to the point of eclipsing the movie itself. Wes Anderson had become a style rather than a filmmaker. I told anyone who would listen 3 years ago, that I didn’t know why Wes hadn’t just made all of the Life Aquatic animated. It would have been his best movie to date. So after waiting for The Dajeeling Limited to come in a lil red envelope, I thought Mr. Fox might be worth the $12.50.

Now right off, an aside in movie etiquette. The wife and I entered the freshly swept and now popcorn free theater, behind maybe eight people waiting at the door before us. We like the stadium seating first row with the clear view and the railing to put our feet up and easy access to the exit for when my invitable bathroom break. So naturally when we turn to our right and start to go down the row we were not expecting to be met with a demure little peasent clothed gatekeeper who promptly told us.

Bitch: Um actually I was trying to save those seats.
Me: The whole row?
Bitch: Actually Im trying to save both these rows for my friends.

Both. Rows. 12 seats. 12.

I’m willing and prone myself to saving a seat or two, but it takes some nutsack hairier then her petulie stankin legs, to just claim up and claim the primest 2 rows in the theater like it was a Risk board and her armies were a scarf and her hippy communal sense of World Peace. The only thing that kept me from lowering a dumptruck worth of attitude, plopping down, and setting the rest of the row on fire was the fact that the row across from us was still mostly available and I don’t like to hit girls unless they hit me first.

The rest of her water and vinegar compadres wouldn’t begin arriving for another 20 minutes in a stressfully packed room and I did take an elevated level of satisfaction watching her fend off every third movie goer from taking the seats she reserved for her ascot and designer baseball hat wearing amigos.

By the way, this also goes for all you cocksocks that love getting in line for big movies (the Harry Potters and Twilights of the world) and letting all your giggly sorority sisters trickle in ahead of me so that the line, that had 5 people when I got here 45 minutes early, suddenly bubbles up like a stepped on garden hose to about 17-18 tards. If I see this at Avatar, I will pee on you.

That being said, when I came out of the theater I couldn’t have been happier. I was right; the genre worked like a charm for him. His quirks and nostalgia, instead of seeming over done, read like attention to craft. The normally wooden deadpan performances became whimsical and charming behind the smiles and wide eyes of animals in clothes.

Adding a new first and third act onto the story seemed surprisingly natural to the Dahl story. The heist film resetting felt especially comfortable in the voice of Danny Ocean himself, George Clooney. (BTW saw Men Who Stare At Goats last week. Wow what a waste of time. Nothing happens. And not in a good existential way. It’s a waste of actors, waste of decent subject matter and worst of all: a waste of Jeff Bridges.)

What at surface seems like, and is heavily promoted as, children’s faire, Mr. Fox harkens back to the Bluth and Watership Down 70’s that weren’t scrubbed to bubbly Disney perfection.

I know Wes Anderson will probably go immediately back to making live action movies that I have no interest of watching until they stream on Netflix, but I hope that he’s at enjoyed the process enough to continue to push the Wes Anderson style into new paradigms.

Cause who doesn’t love paradigms.

¿Cómo me sentí yo?

Pamela Anderson’s infamous sex tape has finally come back to haunt her.

The former “Baywatch” star and Playboy model bares all in a candid interview

“I knew kids were going to watch the film and there was a reference to the tape in the movie
and they’re that age and, you know, people are going start saying things,”
Anderson tells British talk-show host Jeremy Kyle.

“I just said, ‘Look, Mummy and Daddy were massively in love, we videotaped everything,
everything was videotaped, and you’re probably going hear about something at school.’”

In the one-on-one interview, Anderson, 47, goes on to reveal intimate details about her turbulent personal life,
including her drinking and drug use, her rocky marriage to Lee,
about with Hepatitis C and her recent financial woes.

She admits to taking cocaine, and claims she has stopped drinking because it made her “crazy.”

“I haven’t had a drink in a month, I don’t drink,” she says.
“Champagne – sometimes I’ll drink it and I’ll get a little crazy, doing back flips and, you know,
wrestling people on the floor. But I’m taking a break right now.”

Anderson also admits to falling on hard times after spending $5 million on a dream home in Malibu
before running out of money.
“I’m going to sell it,” she says. “I hate (that). People commit suicide over constructions.
Relationships break down over constructions and I can see why. It rips your heart out.”

Bill Wasik, flash mob trailing behind him, rambled, you know, through an interview with Big Think that touches on music, viral video, short news content, the Kindle, and, you know, BuzzFeed. He seems to come to the reluctant conclusion that short forms of content – read this “written” in this case – will always be, you know, free. He can’t seem to come up with a cogent argument for why the pay wall won’t work, though.

Well, you know, maybe I can help him.

He touches on two things that really are, you know, salient in making the argument;

1. The long tail, and the argument that people will tend to segment the infinite variety of content available on the web in a way that is pleasing to them.

2. His term “relentless distraction” and his argument that the infinite choices available lead toward short term thinking and obsessive surfing around meaningless things.

These two conditions will cause, in my view, a premium to be earned for quality content delivered in short, readable, bites. Just like the New York Times on Twitter, which is now a prolific headline engine, the money may not be made on the clicks. It is much more likely to be made on the tailoring of content to the user’s profile. And here we are back to the argument that Twitter, Facebook, Amazon et al know everything about us already and we give it to them willingly!

Now that businesses and news outlets have discovered Twitter, and its great capacity as a search engine, they will develop increasingly sophisticated and creative means to tease us with headlines and links that lead to their advertiser supported wonderland. It’s really about breaking through the clutter with a relevant message.

I think Wasik is right on one other point as well. He glorifies the Kindle as a device that allows the user to, you know, sit there and read “in a more leisurely way to things that you picked up for yourself” because it is not connected to the internet. I agree that consumers will seek “off line” time to consume content that they have chosen, whether it is music, video, writing, or you know, their own word documents.

Manchester United are trailing Chelsea by five points after the defeat to Blues at Stamford Bridge and things are not looking good for Sir Alex Ferguson’s side. Nani seems to have finished his career at Old Trafford (if he ever had one) after daring to criticize Fergie, while the squad look in desperate need of rebuilding. This can by done by some extent in January, although don’t expect the gaffer to rush into any new deals.

This season was always going to be difficult from the moment Ronaldo left the club and I believe the boss should have added few more players to the squad. He obviously didn’t want to make big changes to the team that had a lot of success in the past few years, but only because he expected more from Nani, Anderson, Berbatov and co. Antonio Valencia is slowly growing accustomed to the life at Old Trafford and his performances are getting better by the day but players like Nani and Anderson, who were expected to step up the plate are desperately underperforming.

Things should improve now that Giggs and Park are back in action and I am confident the boss will have no problems getting rid of Nani after his latest comments. However, with Van der Sar, Giggs, Scholes and Neville in the closing stages of their careers, it’s high time they were found some replacements. Foster and Kuszczak have already proven they didn’t have the required quality to replace the Dutch keeper so Ferguson will have to look elsewhere. Igor Akinfeev and Manuel Neuer are being mentioned as possible replacements and one of them could be on the way to Manchester very soon.

This season doesn’t look too optimistic for United as they don’t seem to have the quality to match thoroughly impressive Chelsea in the Premier League, while Champions League title looks like mission impossible at the moment. That is the reason why the rebuilding process should have already started as these things take time and could cost United at least a couple of trophies. In all fairness, Ferguson brought players like Nani, Anderson, Obertan, Da Silva twins with the aim of building for the future but this process clearly didn’t go as expected.

I still hope Manchester United can fight for trophies this season but apart from maybe reaching the final stages of one of domestic Cups, that don’t look like a realistic possibility. This team are not well balanced and have some missing links, and this is something that cannot be sorted out by buying a couple of players in January. This is one bet I would like to lose but backing Manchester United not to win any trophies this season at 2.00 offered by Paddy Power looks like one of the best sport picks at the moment.
