<title><![CDATA[Deux esprits lumineux pour une même vision de la France : Charles De Gaulle et André Malraux]]></title>

<p>A l&#8217;heure où le sujet de l&#8217;identité nationale anime les débats, une lecture récente me renvoie à ce sujet déjà évoqué<a href="http://annotalim.wordpress.com/2009/11/03/identite-francaise-ou-identite-nationale/?utm_source=feedburner&#38;utm_medium=feed&#38;utm_campaign=Feed%3A+wordpress%2FBtEY+%28Annotations+discr%C3%A8tes%29"> ici</a>. Un jeune (et brillant) avocat,  <a href="http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andr%C3%A9_Malraux_-_Charles_de_Gaulle_:_une_histoire,_deux_l%C3%A9gendes">Alexandre Duval-Stalla</a> a donné, il y a deux ans déjà, le fruit d&#8217;un long travail fouillé, d&#8217;une compilation nourrie, personnelle  et éclairée de deux destins d&#8217;exception qui un jour se croisèrent pour former le lien d&#8217;une inextinguible amitié. Cette remise en mémoire de la vie de Charles De Gaulle, de dix ans l&#8217;aîné d&#8217;André Malraux et celle de ce dernier sont à relire d&#8217;urgence, car tout y est dit de ce qui fait la France et des valeurs de notre identité française.</p>
<p>J&#8217;emprunterai ici à<a href="http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daniel_Rondeau"> Daniel Rondeau</a>, qui préfaça ces &#8220;Biographies croisées&#8221; avant même qu&#8217;elles ne soient achevées, la fin de son exergue : &#8220;<em>D&#8217;un côté l&#8217;homme du destin et de l&#8217;Histoire, de l&#8217;autre celui d&#8217;une fantasia permanente de l&#8217;intelligence dont les affirmations chargées d&#8217;une étrange énergie poétique claquent sur la toile mouvante du passage du temps. Chacun d&#8217;eux a trouvé son meilleur lecteur. Voilà qu&#8217;aujourd&#8217;hui un jeune homme nommé Alexandre Duval-Stalla se penche sur ces deux vies longtemps parallèles qui ont fini par ne plus former qu&#8217;une seule histoire. Duval-Stalla nous la raconte. Ce n&#8217;est pas si banal, il nous parle d&#8217;un temps où notre pays était gouverné par deux écrivains. Tout cela paraît loin. C&#8217;est très loin. Mais c&#8217;est la façon qu&#8217;a trouvée un homme de trente ans de parler de notre temps</em>.&#8221;</p>
<p>Eh bien moi qui ai connu ce temps-là, je trouve ce jeune homme admirable, qui a su où puiser pour façonner son propre<a href="http://www.magazine-litteraire.com/content/Homepage/article.html?id=13431"> &#8220;Coeur intelligent&#8221;</a>,  pour emprunter à Alain Finkielkraut dont le sujet de  la littérature, nourriture de l&#8217;intelligence, est le plus récent plaidoyer.</p>
<p>En ce temps de disette morale et d&#8217;athéisme triomphants, il est réjouissant de voir ainsi ramenés en lumière ces esprits qui appartiennent déjà à l&#8217;Histoire sur laquelle repose encore notre aujourd&#8217;hui. Car on peine à imaginer ce que serait la France, son territoire, son image, son patrimoine et sa culture si elle ne les avait pas rencontrés.</p>
<p>Par delà cette vision commune d&#8217;une France pérenne et généreuse, Charles de Gaulle était animé d&#8217;une foi catholique profonde et puissante, ce qui n&#8217;était pas le cas d&#8217;André Malraux qui résuma pourtant de la plus pertinente manière cette finalité mortelle qui l&#8217;obsédait : &#8220;Vous savez mieux que moi que nul n&#8217;échappe à Dieu&#8221;.*</p>

Continui cu citatele din<em> Condiţia umană</em> de André Malraux, de această dată  subiectul fiind viaţa şi moartea.</p>
<blockquote><p>Niciun om nu poate trăi negând viaţa.<!--more--></p></blockquote>
<blockquote><p>Încrederea joacă un rol important cu atât mai mult cu cât ea nu ar trebui să existe.</p></blockquote>
<p>&#8230; să nu existe. Hmmm&#8230; mi-e greu să fiu de acord cu afirmaţia asta. Sau poate că nu o înţeleg pe deplin.</p>
<blockquote><p>Auzim vocile altora cu urechile; pe ale noastre cu gâtlejul. Da, şi propria ta viaţă tot prin gâtlej o auzi. Cum oare auzim vieţile celorlalţi?</p></blockquote>

<p>Mi-a plăcut mult întrebarea-răspuns. Dacă lumea s-ar împărţi în <em>da</em> şi <em>nu</em>&#8230; eu oare ce aş fi?</p>

<p>Asta e clar. Amintirile sunt doar fapte ce ar trebui să îţi îndrume paşii în prezent. Dar continuă:</p>

<p>Ba da, viaţa fiecăruia trece cu fiecare secundă pe care o respirăm. Dar asta nu înseamnă că s-a oprit.</p>

<p>Am avut aceeaşi senzaţie acum câteva luni. Numai că nu era singurul lucru de care mă temeam. Oricum&#8230; cum înfrunţi o astfel de teamă? Probabil că dormind.</p>

<p>Este replica personajului de care am vorbit la începutul postului trecut. Nu cred că mai are rost să adaug ceva.</p>

<p>Mi-ar plăcea să fie adevărat.</p>

<p>Este citatul cel mai cunoscut din această carte. Dar eu zic că e mai uşor de înţeles în context decât doar o simplă frază.</p>

<p>Îmi aminteşte de un citat din Mircea Eliade: &#8220;Am ieşit din mine ca să păşesesc mai departe&#8221;. Dar până poţi face asta, într-adevăr e înfiorător.</p>

<description><![CDATA[Oare e o ameninţare? Oare e un avertisment? Nu&#8230; e doar o realitate. Titlul este un citat din c]]></description>
<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p style="text-align:justify;">Oare e o ameninţare? Oare e un avertisment? Nu&#8230; e doar o realitate. <!--more-->Titlul este un citat din cea mai recentă carte pe care am citit-o: <em>Condiţia umană</em> de André Malraux. Partea interesantă este că unul dintre personaje într-un fel se încuraja spunându-şi asta.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Acţiunea se petrece în China socialistă a anilor &#8216;30. Ne este prezentată o revoluţie muncitorească şi cum aceasta afectează viaţa personajelor. Fiecare vede şi implicit trăieşte diferit toată această luptă şi datorită aspiraţiilor  fiecare personaj îşi caută sau îşi găseşte o modalitate proprie de a se îndepărta de condiţia sa umană.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">La început m-a enervat cartea. Nu puteam înţelege mare lucru&#8230; mi se părea că e prea multă istorie şi nu mă puteam nicicum familiariza cu personajele. Care, cine de partea cui e. Dar nu a durat mult şi toate au început să se lege.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">O să dau multe citate din carte pentru că merită să citeşti măcar aceste fragmente, dacă nu toată cartea. De aceea voi scrie două posturi. În primul rând este menţionată relaţia dintre femeie şi bărbat, diferenţele de percepere a lucrurilor şi chiar cum se văd unul pe altul. O să şi comentez unele dintre ele.</p>
<blockquote><p>- Suferinţa nu poate avea vreun sens, decât în cazul că nu te duce spre moarte şi&#8230; aproape întotdeauna acolo duce. [...]</p>
<p>- Cred, totuşi că numai un bărbat poate gândi aşa. Pentru o femeie, suferinţa mă duce mai mult cu gândul la viaţă decât la moarte.</p></blockquote>
<blockquote><p>Oare gelozia se naşte şi din ceea ce presupunem că va face celălalt?</p></blockquote>
<p>Interesant punct de vedere şi chiar cred că aşa este: gelozia se transformă de multe ori în fapte imaginate.</p>
<blockquote><p>N-o cunosc decât în măsura în care o iubesc, în felul cum o iubesc. [...] Nu poţi poseda pe cineva decât în măsura în care tu l-ai schimbat.</p></blockquote>
<p>Aici trebuie să vin cu un alt citat din Paulo Coelho. Ştiu, ciudată asociere, dar totuşi: &#8220;Viaţa o învăţase că era inutil să crezi că cineva poate poseda altă persoană &#8211; cine crede că aşa ceva este cu putinţă, vrea să se autoamăgească.&#8221; Totuşi continuă:</p>
<blockquote><p>- De ce oare inteligenţa feminină se îndreaptă spre alte domenii decât cel care-i revine de drept?</p>
<p>- Care este domeniul care îi revine de drept?</p>
<p>- Evident, farmecul şi capacitatea de a înţelege. Ceea ce bărbaţii numesc astfel înseamnă de fapt, o supunere spirituală. Voi nu vă daţi seama că o femeie este inteligentă decât atunci când e de acord cu ce spuneţi&#8230; Vă produce o senzaţie de relaxare, nu e aşa?</p>
<p>- A se da pentru o femie, a poseda pentru un bărbat, sunt cele două şi singurele modalităţi pe care le au oamenii pentru a înţelege câte ceva&#8230;</p>
<p>- Nu socoţi, dragule, că femeile nu se dau niciodată, sau mai niciodată şi că bărbaţii nu posedă de fapt nimic? E vorba de o joacă.</p></blockquote>
<blockquote><p>Nimic nu poate lega mai mult o femeie de un bărbat decât un amalgam de forţă şi slăbiciune.</p></blockquote>
<p>O, dar cât adevăr zace în aceste cuvinte!</p>

<blockquote><p>Mult mai puţine femei s-ar tăvăli în pat, dacă ar putea obţine, în poziţie verticală, frazele de admiraţie de care au neapărată nevoie. Ştiu că doar la aşternut le pot auzi.</p></blockquote>
<p>Dureros de adevărat.</p>
<blockquote><p>Bărbatul poate şi trebuie să nege femeia. Numai acţiunea justifică viaţa unui om alb. Şi numai ea îl poate satisface.</p></blockquote>
<blockquote><p>Erotismul constă în umilirea ta sau a partenerei, poate a amândurora.</p></blockquote>
<blockquote><p>Ce psiholog, beat criţă, găsise de cuviinţă să boteze <em>dragoste</em> acel sentiment care acum îi otrăvea viaţa?</p></blockquote>
<p>Dacă ar fi fost replica unui personaj feminin nu era nimic interesant, dar tocmai faptul că îi este atribuită unui bărbat îi dă o alta semnificaţie frazei.</p>

<p>The multimedia exhibition Le dernier voyage d&#8217;André Malraux en Haïti ou &#8220;La découverte de l&#8217;art Vaudou&#8221; [The Last Voyage of André Malraux in Haiti or “The Discovery of Vaudou Art”] has been extended until December 11, 2009.</p>
<p>This exhibition, which is a tribute to the French author and the 50<sup>th</sup> anniversary of the creation of the Ministry of Culture (1959), gathers works of art from Africa and the Caribbean that embody Malraux’s experience of aesthetic discovery in Haiti. The exhibition includes paintings from the Saint-Soleil community in Haiti, Haitian photography, sculpture from Africa and the Caribbean, as well as the projection of films from the series based on Malraux’s travels, &#8220;Journal de voyage avec André Malraux à la recherche des arts du monde entier.&#8221; The DVD series, edited by Ina and Doriane Films, consists of 13 films by Jean-Marie Drot made for French television between 1974 and 1976, and is available for purchase at the museum. The films combine Malraux’s recorded impressions of his travels, discoveries, and favorite artists, with images from museums and other cultural sites around the world.</p>
<p>Also available at the Montparnasse Museum is the corresponding book/catalogue <em>Le dernier voyage d’André Malraux en Haïti</em>, containing 128 pages of color illustrations and text by Jean-Marie Drot (a co-edition by Musée du Montparnasse and Paradox Publishers).</p>

<p style="text-align:justify;">C’est un moment crucial lorsque l’art du documentaire rencontre le documentaire sur l’art. Les modalités de conscience que sont la mémoire, le temps, l’espace et l’imagination sont communes à toute activité intellectuelle, active, passive ou réactive. Le documentaire court-circuite le décalage entre ce qu’offre une oeuvre et la façon dont chaque individu la reçoit, la complète. De l’une à l’autre, la continuité ne s’établit que par approximations, subjectivement, en deçà de la mesure et de la structure. On s’aperçoit que la diffraction du sujet vers sa représentation opère un retour sur le contenu qui produit une mise en abyme pratiquement illimitée. Sur ce principe, la <em>Recherche</em> <em>des arts du monde entier</em> permet le développement simultané de différents types de discours dont Malraux est, en pratique, la clef de voûte. Pourtant, à l’opposé d’une histoire de l’art prétendument objective dont la rigueur sert la finalité didactique, les motivations de Jean-Marie Drot sont multiples et cumulatives. Qu’il s’agisse de Malraux ou de ses écrits, des œuvres qu’il collecte dans son musée imaginaire ou de la réalisation virtuelle de celui-ci, il ne cesse de susciter les contrepoints. Tissu à la trame compliquée, ce documentaire est riche d’une multiplicité de fils, dont le dessin reste délibérément indéterminé.</p>
<p>1. La mémoire</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">En 1974, le documentariste Jean-Marie Drot invite André Malraux pour une relecture de ses écrits sur l’art. Ceux-ci sont nombreux. Fil rouge liant les activités multiples qui ont si bien rempli la vie de ce grand homme – de la littérature à la philosophie, de l’engagement et du militantisme à la politique – l’Art advient comme une possible synthèse entre action, conviction et sensibilité esthétique. C’est aussi la forme d’initiation que préfère l’autodidacte qui, de la fréquentation des musées aux voyages lointains, fonde ses connaissances sur le désir et l’expérience. Tel est le cheminement de Malraux. A la veille de sa mort (survenue en 1976, en pleine réalisation du documentaire donc), le voilà assis en bout de chaise, le visage meurtri par la concentration, méditant sur le palimpseste des souvenirs, tantôt solennellement, tantôt avec la fièvre d’un homme qui ne ménage pas ses admirations. Sans texte – si ce n’est celui qu’il n’a cessé d’écrire tout au long de sa vie – sans préparation, l’Art (singulier englobant tous les pluriels) dont il parle fait partie intégrante de lui, il est sa mémoire. Indissociable de ses goûts, de sa sensibilité, de son vécu, il se promène dans sa mémoire avec l’agilité intellectuelle qui fait désormais défaut à son corps. En matière de transmission – Jean-Marie Drot parle de son documentaire comme du <em>testament</em> d’André Malraux – l’avantage de l’inventaire personnel sur, par exemple, l’ouvrage scientifique, c’est l’incarnation. André Malraux produit un discours nourri de chair, d’émotion, de faits et de lieux qui s’agencent selon une hiérarchie propre. Il s’explique, argumente, démontre : l’exposé reflète la densité trouble de la mémoire, c’est-à-dire celle d’une matière vivante avec ses aspérités et ses zones d’ombre.</p>
<p>2. L’espace</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Les diverses séquences qui composent le documentaire actualisent le voyage mental de Malraux. Il s’agit de confronter ses souvenirs aux œuvres et aux lieux évoqués. L’Italie, la Hollande, l’Espagne, la France évidemment, mais surtout l’Asie et l’Afrique. La géographie mouvante que trace le documentaire n’est pas de celle qu’une carte peut objectiver. L’Art selon Malraux n’a de sens que par comparaison. Les œuvres s’orchestrent en une polyphonie indifférente aux frontières, faite de correspondances et de coïncidences. L’espace se fractionne mais les morceaux découpés s’emboîtent à l’infini. Ainsi, le fait que chaque épisode annonce une destination précise n’empêche pas les projections extra-territoriales. Les boucles et les retours renvoient au narrateur, inévitables obsessions, scènes primitives qui, dans l’histoire des arts du monde, existent peut-être objectivement, mais qui marquent plus sûrement la nature essentiellement individuelle de la démonstration. En fin de compte, c’est le monde intérieur d’André Malraux qui oriente le documentaire et dicte les déplacements. Voyageur jusqu’à la fin, il découvre Haïti quelques mois avant sa mort. La communauté des peintres de Saint-Soleil dont les créations participent aux rites vaudou, fait écho à l’une de ses idées fondatrices. L’Art conserverait, par sa présence énigmatique en l’homme, la trace du sacré. A l’espace terrestre s’ajoute, perceptible mais instable, cette dimension métaphysique qui le prolonge et le creuse à l’infini.</p>
<p>3. Le temps</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Comme Malraux, par la grâce de la mémoire, voyage dans l’espace, il circule dans le temps. Les étranges correspondances qui s’établissent entre régions lointaines ont également cours entre époques différentes. Aussi ce parti-pris de mouvement autour d’André Malraux, circulation mémorielle des œuvres indépendamment de toute chronologie objective, offre-t-elle, ici encore, une liberté féconde. Puisque le titre du documentaire fait état d’une <em>recherche</em>, on peut difficilement nier l’analogie entre la démarche de Malraux et celle de Proust dans <em>La recherche du temps perdu</em>. Chez l’un comme l’autre il s’agit d’une réappropriation de la mémoire qui souligne, entre autres, la part égale que prennent, dans le déroulement de la vie, le réel et l’imaginaire. Proust décompose et cristallise le temps au gré de la mémoire affective, et c’est, dans une moindre mesure, ce que Malraux reproduit à son tour. En aval, le démantèlement du temps se poursuit dans l’ancienneté relative du documentaire, diffusé à la télévision il y a plus de trente ans. Lorsque Jean-Marie Drot et Malraux s’engagent dans une discussion sur l’audiovisuel, c’est avec une certaine nostalgie que l’on prend note de leurs espoirs et de leurs doutes. Considérant que seul l’audiovisuel permet la juxtaposition des images, à leurs yeux il est l’outil idéal du discours sur l’Art. Triste décalage : là où Malraux conçoit la télévision comme un possible vecteur d’immortalité, celle-ci célèbre aujourd’hui le triomphe de l’éphémère.</p>
<p>4. L’imagination</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Malraux nous propose une lecture créatrice, de celle qui ne peut pas se scléroser puisque chacun est l’auteur de son propre musée imaginaire. Certes, basé sur une personnalité aussi remarquable, on peut facilement manquer de recevoir ce documentaire comme une invitation à entamer sa propre recherche. Pourtant, l’attitude de l’écrivain qui, tout au long de sa vie, participe activement à ce qu’il voit, qui s’interroge, compare, approfondit, est d’une désarmante familiarité. Démarche esthétique plus qu’intellectuelle, la réflexion approfondit  et intensifie la jouissance immédiate qu’offrent les choses vues. Au terme de ces quelques heures passées en compagnie d’André Malraux, l’image de ce vieillard magnifique, les mains déliées qui se déploient pour saisir et redistribuer les idées, le son de la voix chevrotante qui, quoique affaiblie et parfois peu distincte, s’infléchit suivant l’émouvante partition intérieure, la vivacité du regard et la relative faiblesse du corps étiolé que l’intelligence remet d’aplomb – cette vision est fragment d’immortalité, non pas de l’individu, mais de l’Art.</p>

E in questa Italietta c’è ormai una sinistretta, piccola, stretta, divisa. È una storia che va raccontata, quella de <strong><span style="color:#00ffff;">Le ombre rosse</span></strong> di <strong><span style="color:#00ffff;"><a href="http://allucineazioninterviste.wordpress.com/2009/09/03/venezia-66-citto-maselli-da-40-anni-mi-tolgono-il-saluto%e2%80%a6/" target="_self">Citto Maselli</a></span></strong>. Non è una storia vera, ma verosimile. Non è accaduta, ma potrebbe accadere. Siamo nel 2007, durante l’ultimo governo di centrosinistra. Un intellettuale di fama mondiale viene invitato a un centro sociale e viene colpito dalla vitalità delle proposte culturali. Così rilascia un intervista per una piccola tv in cui afferma che i centri sociali potrebbero diventare qualcosa di più importante, delle case della cultura sul modello di quelle che <strong><span style="color:#00ffff;">Andrè Malraux</span></strong> propose in Francia. Ripresa da altre tv e poi da media sempre più importanti, la notizia acquista una rilevanza tale che in tanti si propongono di aiutare il centro sociale a crescere.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Ma le cose si complicano. Ognuno degli attori in causa, ognuno di sinistra, ha una sua idea. Dall’architetto di sinistra, ma con i miliardi, che vuol farsi finanziare il suo progetto dai petrolieri americani, alla banca di sinistra che vuole acquistarlo e farne un centro commerciale. Fino ai politici, buoni nelle intenzioni, ma incapaci di sbloccare la situazione. Come chi propone cento case della cultura, ma non riesce a salvare nemmeno un centro sociale. “La cultura deve fruttare”, si sentono dire i ragazzi del centro sociale. “Ma non dovrebbe essere un bene comune, come l’acqua”, rispondono i ragazzi? Così ci si allontana sempre più dall’idea originale, la si snatura. Fino a far svanire il sogno, e risvegliarsi bruscamente. Mentre la destra vince le elezioni tra i clacson.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">È un grido di dolore, quello del vecchio leone <strong><span style="color:#00ffff;"><a href="http://allucineazioninterviste.wordpress.com/2009/09/03/venezia-66-citto-maselli-da-40-anni-mi-tolgono-il-saluto%e2%80%a6/" target="_self">Citto Maselli</a></span></strong>. Un grido che si smorza in una risata sarcastica e beffarda, nella coscienza che la beffa e il sarcasmo sembra essere l’ultima arma di una resistenza all’apatia. <a href="http://allucineazioninterviste.wordpress.com/2009/09/03/venezia-66-citto-maselli-da-40-anni-mi-tolgono-il-saluto%e2%80%a6/" target="_self"><strong><span style="color:#00ffff;">Maselli</span></strong> </a>possiede ancora uno sguardo lucido e tagliente sulla vita, la cultura e la politica di oggi. Si vede che è un film che nasce da un grande rimpianto. Quello dell’ultimo governo Prodi, ma anche per la direzione che rischia di prendere la sinistra (o centrosinistra) italiana. Come direbbe <strong><span style="color:#00ffff;">Moretti</span></strong>: continuiamo così, facciamoci del male.</p>

<p>¿Perdón? la tolerancia a la estupidez, junto con el ahorro o la abstinencia son dones que no me han sido otorgados. El oxigenismo talibán francés ya había logrado enfurecerme al reemplazar la emblemática pipa de Jacques Tati por un molinete de juguete en el afiche de una exposición de la  Cinemateca Francesa dedicada al genial cineasta. Pero ellos no fueron los únicos.</p>

Y un afiche de la  Biblioteca Nacional de París fue alterado para borrar un cigarrillo de la mano de Jean-Paul Sartre.</p>

<p>I was seat in front of my radio that looked like a TV and I heard a Journalist knocking at the door. He was looking for somebody named like his sister and I was not there. America was the name of a river that you found far away when nobody came, somewhere in the middle of your lies, your dreams to see your parents die if you&#8217;re a born looser.</p>
<p>Indians reservations are places where you can search and find what is the way to Ancient Egypt because the Mountains are tunnels close to your ticket for another restaurant with no road to stop if you believe in fate and mind games. The Man With Velvet Eyes bought so many Novels, so many Poems and so much music times, then he lost his picture of the world and came back at the time of the last humans, the machines.</p>
<p>There was a Flying Saucer, below the sun and the sky and Indians were a population listenoing to its message, which one? I know.</p>

<p style="text-align:justify;">The photo was taken in 1933 by Gisele Freund, just after the publication of one of Malraux&#8217;s most famous novels, <em>La Condition humaine </em>(Man&#8217;s Fate), which won the Goncourt Prize and established his international reputation. Of the author, his hair blown with wind, and a cigarette butt stuck to his lips, Gisele noted, &#8220;There was drama in his simplest words.&#8221; André Malraux would enlist her in 1935 to document the First International Congress of Writers for the Defense of Culture, for which she took <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2009/01/08/arts/design/08abroad.html">memorable portraits</a> of the giants and titans of the 20th century literature.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Removing cigarettes from old pictures is almost a pasttime in France. In the late 1990s, when French postal authorities tried to honor André Malraux, they used this famous snapshot, but guillotined the cigarette as part of a national anti-smoking campaign. Gisele, the celebrated German-born French photographer, would be pleased&#8211;her seminal work, <em>Photographie et société</em> (1974), was about the uses and abuses of the photographic medium.</p>

<title><![CDATA[Film and Theatre Converge In  Revolt Against Destiny]]></title>

<p style="text-align:justify;">The movie <em>Slumdog Millionaire</em> showing now in cinemas starts off with the question, <span>&#8220;Jamal Malik is one question away from winning 20 million </span><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rupee"><span>rupees</span></a><span>. How did he do it? (A) He cheated, (B) He&#8217;s lucky, (C) He&#8217;s a genius, (D) It is written.&#8221;</span><span> <span lang="EN-GB">The answer is (D). In other words, it was meant to be. Despite winning eight Academy Awards, five Critics’ Choice Awards, four Golden Globes and seven BAFTA Awards, some film reviewers have criticised the film for not being “truly” Indian. </span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify;"><span lang="EN-GB">Yet, its central theme is not only entrenched in Indian folklore, but is one that has fascinated mankind throughout history: Destiny or fate or kismet- the unseen character in folklore, literature and drama. </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify;"><span lang="EN-GB">Our Swahili culture derives the stories of Abunwasi from the collection of stories <em>One Thousand And One Nights</em> (or <em>Arabian Nights</em>) that dates as far back as pre-Islamic Persia and contains elements of Indian folklore. Destiny is a key theme in these stories, one of which, <em>The Three Apples</em> seems to be retold in <em>Othello</em>, one of Shakespeare’s tragedies. </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify;"><span lang="EN-GB">Aristotle, whose theory of tragedy has been the most influential, argues that “the first essential, the life and the soul, so to speak, of Tragedy is the plot and the characters come second,” suggesting that a character is bound to his destiny- he cannot escape it. </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify;"><span lang="EN-GB"><span> </span>We see this chilling, unpreventable fate in <em>Oedipus Rex</em> a tragedy by Sophocles, which was first performed in 429 B.C. The oracle prophesies that Oedipus will kill his father and marry his mother. To avoid such a terrible catastrophe, his mother abandons him as an infant, in the mountains. As an adult, when Oedipus hears a similar prophesy, he flees his home in Corinth, killing a man on the way, (who actually is his father) and then ascends to the throne of Thebes and marries the queen (his mother.) By trying to run away from his destiny, he actually fulfils it. When the truth finally emerges, his mother hangs herself and he gorges out his own eyes. </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify;"><span lang="EN-GB">In tragedy the hero is often destined to die and the choice he makes to seal his fate presents to us a moral debate. Antigone will defy the King’s orders and give her brother a respectful burial and for this, she will die. Macbeth will believe the cunning prophesy of the witches and let greed overcome him and this will lead to his death. </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify;"><span lang="EN-GB">Unlike classic tragedy, many plays of Sanskrit drama of ancient India end well, just like the film <em>Slumdog Millionaire</em>. But the underlying debate of Destiny and Free Will still persists.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify;"><span lang="EN-GB">In theatre, be it through Shakespearean tragedy or modern contemplations of life and death by playwrights like Beckett, tragedy still remains the preferred forum through which to explore what André Malraux called “the human condition”. </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify;"><span lang="EN-GB">Does our free will determine the cause of our lives or is our path already set out for us? As we celebrate Easter, we remember Judas Iscariot and may ask ourselves, did he betray Jesus of his own volition or was he already doomed to do so? </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify;"><span lang="EN-GB">These are the questions that inspire tragedy. No wonder Malraux went on to say “art is a revolt against destiny.”</span></p>

<p><a href="http://ibosvitart.com/">Jean-Marc Ibos and Myrto Vitart</a> are the guys behind this beautiful library design, the André Malraux library located at the former grain warehouse Seegmuller. This library was dominated with red and white color, the long red ribbon, which is included in the building and connecting interior spaces to each other, is an extension. Jean-Marc Ibos Says ” Why this color visitor wondered lambda? “Because it breaks the space, it symbolizes life, passion … and because it represents the football teams that win!” <!--more--></p>

Nice 1959) also known as Frédéric Vidal, is the son of the Spanish painter Ignasi Vidal and the cousin of the French General Edouard Corniglion-Molinier, aviator and member of the French Resistance, member of the government during the IVe Republique, in the 1950&#8217;s, movie producer (André Malraux&#8217;s L&#8217;Espoir) and friend of Marcel Dassault. American and French citizen, raised in Monaco, alumni of the Institut d&#8217;études politiques de Paris, Sciences Po (Public Service, 1981), Fred Vidal is the author of a thesis about the government publications in France (Pantheon-Assas Paris II University, Institut Français de Presse, Semiotics, 1999), not yet published.</p>

<p>President of the Rassemblement des Jeunes Republicains (RJR), in the 1980&#8217;s, part of the Rassemblement Républicain, created by his uncle, Maurice Vittone, Jean Médecin, Mayor of Nice, and Edouard Corniglion-Molinier, in the 1950&#8217;s, and journalist for the City Radio Baie des Anges, in Nice, France, Fred Vidal decided to resign in 1984 and to leave for Paris, because of the Mayor, Jacques Médecin, son of Jean Médecin, policy. Historical researcher, communication manager and civil servant at the Caisse des dépôts et consignations (1987-2002) in Paris, he used to work, in the 1990&#8217;s, on the subject of the Jewish assets stolen by the Nazis during World War II, under the scientific authority of René Rémond, the French Political Science specialist (Lionel Jospin, Prime minister of France).</p>
<p><strong>Filmmaker in the United States</strong></p>
<p>Filmmaker and entrepreneur (French Cop(R) LLC and Modernscope™ Inc) in Hollywood, California, in the 2000&#8217;s, after he decided to immigrate in the United States in 2003, he is preparing two films connected to historical events: The French Cop(R) taking place in 2005 during the riots in France and The German Spy™ (Silence Thomas Spears™), an alternate history drama taking place in the 1930&#8217;s, in Germany and America. Fred Vidal is the president of the Rex Ingram Center™ (non-profit) dedicated to a better protection and diffusion of the American silent movies. He is a member of the Presidential Task Force of the Republican Party. Member of the Screen Actors Guild, he is the photo-double of the Hollywood star Steve Carell. </p>

<p>This reminds me that of my current struggle to understand Walker Evans. I find it kinda fascinating—that gap between the two understandings. Care nu are sens mai cu seamă în partea a doua și este impregnată de un accent apocaliptic, contrar convingerilor scriitorului umanist francez. André Malraux a afirmat în fața lui Georges Verpraet: <span style="color:#993300;"><span style="color:#008000;"><em>”Mi s-a spus: secolul XXI va fi religios. N-am confirmat, bineînțeles, pentru că nu știu nimic în privința asta. Ceea ce am răspuns este mult mai sigur: nu exclud posibilitatea unui eveniment spiritual la scară planetară”.</em></span></span></p>
<p style="font-size:9pt;line-height:17px;font-family:Arial;text-align:justify;">Georges Verpraet, jurnalist la cotidianul catolic <em>La Croix</em>, i-a redat cuvintele lui Malraux preotului său din Strasbourg, care le prelucrează și atribuie scriitorului, în 1973, fraza: <span style="color:#0000ff;"><span style="color:#008000;"><em>”Secolul XXI va fi metafizic sau nu va fi deloc”</em>.</span> </span>Opt ani mai târziu, scriitorul André Frossard comitea un alt fals, jurând că ar fi auzit din gura lui Malraux sentința : <span style="color:#008000;"><em>”Secolul XXI va fi mistic”. </em></span><span style="color:#004c00;"><strong><span style="color:#ce1707;">În realitate, André Malraux a fost ateu.</span></strong></span> Sau, în cel mai bun caz, agnostic. Motiv pentru care <strong>fraternitatea</strong> și <strong>umanismul</strong> sunt în inima operei sale. Romanele <em>”Condiția umană”</em> și <em>”Speranța”</em> sunt o mărturie de nezdruncinat. În 1955, în articolul <em>”Omul și fantoma”</em> scrisese o altă frază care, coroborată cu cea din 1973, ar putea sta la originea falsului : <em><span style="color:#008000;">”Cred că sarcina secolului următor în fața celei mai teribile amenințări pe care ar putea s-o cunoască umanitatea va fi să-și reintegreze zeii”.</span></em> Din nou cuvintele lui Malraux trebuie privite circumspect și în contextul concepției care respiră din întreaga sa operă: <strong><span style="color:#800000;">încrederea în om</span></strong>. Cuvântul <strong>zei</strong> (a nu se ignora pluralul) se referă la modele umane, nu la modele sacre, transcendente.</p>
<p style="font-size:9pt;line-height:17px;font-family:Arial;text-align:justify;">La 23 noiembrie 1976, funeraliile sale nu au fost oficiate religios, conform dorinței sale. Niciun preot, niciun ritual religios. În curtea muzeului Louvre s-a desfășurat o ceremonie destul de bizară în fața unei statui colorate, de dimensiuni apreciabile, a unei pisici.</p>
