Fiona Burrell and Angus James whip up a festive treat

CHEF Fiona Burrell got her own little Chrismas helper as she prepared mince pies for the launch of her new cook school last night.

Three-year-old Angus James added a touch of ginger spice as he got stuck in with the icing sugar as Fiona put the finishing touches to her festive fare.

The former principal of Leiths Cook School opens the doors on her own venture next week, and was trying out the new facilities for the first time.

Edinburgh New Town Cookery School will offer both professional and amateurs the opportunity to brush up their skills with a range of courses.

“Real milestone”

Fiona herself will be taking classes focusing on life skills cookery – helping students master the basics so they can go on to become better chefs.

Opening the school has been a dream for the chef, and she is proud of what it thought to be the largest cookery school in Scotland.

Fiona said: “Last night was a real milestone for us, lots of planning and preparation has gone into getting the school ready for launch.

“The opening of The Edinburgh New Town Cookery School has been a project close to my heart and it’s fantastic to see it come to life in this way.”

A whole range of Christmas themed courses are being offered by the school in the run up to the holidays, including how to carve a turkey and alternative ideas for Christmas lunch.

Chris Bovio has Angus on VHS and its my childhood favorite.  We want to start an Angus themed band and this is my brainstorm for a band name.  I like “Not Rick.”

Our fantastic Poked Studio designed him for the latest Argos Christmas Adverts.

Poked’s 2D and 3D designs were used as reference to create the animated advert, which will be played on CITV over the Christmas period.

My cat Angus is a Maine Coon mix. I am not sure what else is in the mix, but Maine Coon is definitely a large part of his genetic makeup. A characteristic of the Maine Coon is a fluffy tail. Angus’s tail is beyond fluffy. It is Magnificent, Resplendent, and alas, Destructive. Unfortunately, the owner of said tail has no idea of its powers. I have seen this tail clear whole coffee tables with a single swish. I have seen it knock soda cans off of their precarious perch next to our brimming recycling baskets and scare the tail’s owner half to death. He has no idea that HE knocked over the cans, poor skittish darling.

If you are in need of further proof of this tail’s amazing powers, simply consider this quote from a morning last week. I swear this is an actual quote of words that came out of my mouth, “Angus, get your tail out of Mommy’s underwear.” Now see if you can guess what amazing hijinks the tail and its unconscious possessor have been up to now. I will give you one hint. Angus, his tail, and I were in the bathroom.

Now I’m aware these fifteen aren’t all exactly 100% acid rain-evening-suicidal-trashed cons grunge tracks, but November is the only month of the year I’ll pop most of this shit in, so by default it’s gonna be half classics, half surface scratchers. Reppin’ the hard flannel.

The video ended up being really good with Brian Fosters section being amazing considering he’s nearly as old as Angus. But let me get straight to the point of why anyone would see this video, VAN HOMAN. Shit you knew he’d have a wild section but my god it was absolutely loony. I’m not gonna spoil anything but this section will just absolutely blow your mind and it is very true, Van Homan will save us. Apart from that the video was pretty stock with Dakota Roche’s section being technically amazing but like watching a computer game so nothing really clicked. Of notable mention is Jackson Ratima who splits a section with Eddie Cleveland and does some really tech street grinds including a predator smith on a round rail. I missed Inmans section due to some guy taking forever at the bar. Also how could I forget the Olde English section, WHY WAS THIS IN THE BONUS! All I can say is Owain Clegg and the canal gap! Apart from that it was a real good night with everyone getting pretty lamp-posted and having a laugh. Cheers to the Ls6 guys for hosting it. Oh yeh never try to get a train back to York at 2 in the morning as you end up waiting for an hour and a half for a coach that is too full, so you get put in a taxi, then find out its the wrong one so you finally get back to lovely York at five in the morning. Not best pleased to be honest.

So recently I’ve been thinking about possible names I can give my hot little kids!  I can think of a lot more girl names than guy names, believe it or not!

I must say the time spent on this was well worth it, though it looks like I worked for days on my hair and makeup, it was actually only hours…..and it did manage to cause us some very sore stomachs from laughing our butts off when snapping the pix for the doo of the day which I put on Facebook or reading the comments…

In a nutshell, Suzanne had done some photos of some normal ladies (well when I say normal I mean they are not professional models, but I would not take the stand swearing to their normalcy in other aspects, especially Wingwoman Lylie) anywho, these pictures were going to be put together in a calendar for Victoria’s Attic in Grande Prairie to raise awareness for Breast Cancer. The title was W.O.W. (Women Of Wisdom) and there was going to be an unveiling, and booby shaped muffins, and some heads shaved… a gal named Shawna and my melon… then a bunch of others joined the group which is always good when a good cause is happening.  So all is good right? you would think so… people doing a calendar, Breast Cancer awareness, heads shaved, etc….. well, this is when I had a brainstorm of my own……

“Doo Of The Day Until Bald For Boobies or DOTDUBFB”

I was going to to a “Doo Of The Day Until Bald For Boobies” and put the pictures on my Facebook and Suzanne Sagmeister Photography’s page also….. and I was going to give it a cool name along the lines of Suzanne who always comes up with funny and cool slogans like W.O.W. or Sneak Peaks, so I called it “DOTDUBFB” which made no sense according to anyone that took English in school apparently…. “DOTDUBFB” which is pronounced “DOT DUBB”…. the “F” is obviously silent… you know, short for Do Of The Day Until Bald For Boobies…..but I digress… cool names is not what I doo… GET IT??? DOO !!! like hair DOO !!!!

Day 1 – So, Suzanne left me alone for a couple hours and after running around with scissors for a bit I decided that the natural part of my hair would be an AWESOME start of the “Day Doo’s”…

I snapped this one with my phone, and had it as my background picture until it made me ill… which was a week later… manyways, I put it up and called it “Doo of the Day Until Bald For Boobies” on Facebook and really thought nothing of it… I got a couple of comments, mostly from my children, but that was about it… Suzanne suggested putting it on the fan page which I thought was awesome as I only have 2 friends and really wasn’t getting the publicity I deserved !!!

Day 2 – Nobody really commented too much on it, so I thought I had to step it up another level… my hair was not that long to begin with, and it really didn’t leave me with a lot of options, but I grabbed the hairspray, the gell, the hair glue and the brush and hit the bathroom and the mirror…

We thought Suzanne’s pink hoodie would really bring out the bloodshot eyes, and snapped the picture and this was really what started it all… people were now following the doo’’s… and were leaving comments… and were wondering what I might “doo” tomorrow…. ya, like I think stuff and things ahead of time, like I have plan…… WRONG !!!!… I figured a couple of pix, a couple of laughs, and on to my next project… WRONG !!!

Day 3 –  luckily while doing the Flock of Friggin’ Seagulls, I had a brainstorm about a superhero I might consider doo-ing… so I grabbed the gell and glue and spray and hair dryer and scotch tape and utensils from the drawer and away I went…

Now it was just bizarre, Hollywood was calling, people were starting to gather outside our RV awaiting for my appearance and the Doo of the Day !!! ya right, I wanted to go uptown like Wolverine and spend the day like this… but someone, not mentioning any “Suzannes” had other ideas… I was going to do it anyways, but when I went to remove bats from the batcave (pick my nose) I just about took a nostril an eye and most of my forehead off… so, rather than remove my face to prove Suzanne wrong, I took it off to appease her….

“Captain’s log… Star Date 2009…… Klingons all around us… force field growing weaker… warp five.. live long and prosper ”

Day 4 – So now I was going to doo something I thought would be awesome, every Nerd on Facebook would love me, and I could do it WITHOUT losing an eye or part of my nose… all it was going to take was a banana, a whole lot of black marker like makeup pencil and a steady hand….. this one made people laugh and try to figure out how the Hell I got thick and lustrious bangs and pointy ears….

It like looking at a more handsome and younger Len Nimoy... I call him Len cuz I'm cool like that !!!

O.K., the people were starting to get into this… I on the other hand, was just about out of ideas with my short and receding hair… in fact…. my very small brain was now pretty much running on fumes… Suzanne was very supportive and told me to “stop crying soldier, drop down and give her twenty push ups and get back at it !!!”

Day 5 – I’m not sure how I came up with this one, but spend a few hours with gell and a brush and make up pencil, and you eventually come up with SOMETHING… we managed to drag our boy Angus into the fun, and (Suzanne) drew a circle on his face…. which by the way stayed on for 2 weeks… and then another 2 weeks when Suzanne put it on AGAIN!!!!

Well after I got out of the hospital after “Petey the Pit Bull” attacked me in my sleep, I had an idea… something so spectacular, something so awesome, something so GINORMOUS that even Ted Turner and his colorization technology would be impressed….

Day 6 – The thunder and lightning were going off every few seconds….the evil Doctor Kampelastein was working away in his mad scientist laboratory(bathroom) brewing up his next creature…

I spent most of that night and some of the morning Stomping through the village with arms outstretched and legs straight, putting the fear of Shane into the townsfolk. Finally, I came to my senses and quit while I was ahead… or a head… a green head…

Day 7 – and the Lord rested…. no seriously, I rested… I was tired from all that stomping and walking and saying things like “Me Crush You” and “Why Don’t My Legs and arms bend?” and my hair was really sore from all the washing and scrubbing of the hair wax and marker off my skin……. “WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!” there, done crying like a baby..

Day 8 – Always have been a fan of early Jim Carrey, ever since he was on In Living Color with the Wayan’s brothers… so what would be a doo of the day without a little James…. I tell you, that friggin’ make up pencil also works on teeth… mind you, I have a chip from fighting with a wheelbarrow and probably didn’t even have to color it in…

ALRIGHTY THEN !!!

Day 9 – Well, anybody with half a brain would know that Jim Carrey is the newer version of Jerry Lewis in the Nutty Professor… add some glasses, add some huge teeth, and pretty much you’re the Lewis… probably nobody remembers him in this movie, or even him for that matter, but google him and you will see I pretty much could go to the bank and cash cheques as him…. ya, pretty much….

Day 10 – Well, the fans were awesome, the remarks were fantastic and we had a blast doing it… thanks to Lawson for shooting some of the pictures for me, and thanks to Suzanne for NOT making them look awesome like she wanted too…. I find the crappier they look, the more they can see the drawn on hair and the fake teeth and the bolt in the neck!!! I thought that Elvis was a great way to finish it off, as he was the King, and he was leaving the building… I had to actually SHAVE my sideburns, as they are THICKER than Elvis’ were…..

“Hey Priscilla, can you hand me my peanut butter and pain killer sandwich!”

Day 11 – finally, I got to go and get the head shaved…. cuz the hair was driving me nuts and it’s a short drive…

Ce n’est pourtant pas pour jouer au jeu des sept erreurs que M. Pollard, éleveur de bêtes et neurochirurgien à ses heures, a introduit des clones dans sa ferme de l’Oklahoma. C’est bien moins fantaisiste, et plus professionnel. Son boulot d’éleveur, c’est de faire de la sélection. Faire se reproduire des bêtes bankables. Aussi, c’est tout naturellement qu’il a élargi la palette de ses technologies et est passé de la fécondation maîtrisée (insémination artificielle et fécondation in vitro) à la non-fécondation (transfert de noyau somatique dans un ovocyte énucléé, ou clonage). Aujourd’hui, vingt-deux clones, comme autant de Charlie planqués dans le décor, se disputent, dans ses troupeaux, la palme d’étalon à bidoche.

En 2008, la FDA, aux Etats-Unis, donnait son aval à la mise sur le marché agroalimentaire de certaines bêtes clonées (bœufs, porcs et chèvres), et de leur descendance. De la viande bénie pour les producteurs : plus résistante aux virus, plus charnue et apte à produire du lait à foison. Décidément jamais au bout de mes surprises, j’ai appris le gain écologique d’une telle technique : comme l’explique pédagogiquement notre éleveur moderne, « si vous avez besoin de moins de maïs pour nourrir votre bétail, vous allez pouvoir diminuer la quantité de fertilisant qui risque de finir dans une rivière. Et vous allez pouvoir réduire l’essence nécessaire à la production de ce maïs. » Un argument auquel devraient, sans aucun doute, être sensibles les écologistes radicaux de tous poils, déjà ravis des progrès incommensurables apportés par les OGM dans le domaine.

Autre argument choc : le clonage pourrait permettre de créer des races susceptibles d’être élevées dans des régions arides du monde, et résistantes à des maladies spécifiques. Bref, de contribuer à la résolution de la faim dans le monde. D’après ViaGen, équivalent, sur le territoire américain, de Monsanto pour le maïs, cloner une vache coûte 14 000 dollars ; une truie, 4 000. Mais, le coût devrait baisser dans les années à venir, avec l’amélioration de la maîtrise de la technique.

Selon la FAO (Organisation des Nations unies pour l’alimentation et l’agriculture), la consommation de viande dans les pays développés a plus que doublé depuis les années soixante. Passée de 10 à 36 kilos par personne et par an, elle devrait atteindre les 37 kilos à l’horizon 2030.

A quand, comme dans la ferme d’Orwell, un Brille-Babil révolutionnaire et las de se multiplier sans dividendes clamera-t-il que « tout deux-pattes est un ennemi » ?

Η ομάδα εξέτασε εν συντομία την διάλυση του συγκροτήματος, αλλά σύντομα ο πρώην τραγουδιστής των Geordie, Brian Johnson είχε επιλεγεί για να αντικαταστήσει τον Scott. Αργότερα εκείνο το έτος, η μπάντα κυκλοφόρησετον δίσκο με τις μεγαλύτερες πωλήσεις σε άλμπουμ, με τίτλο Back in Black.

αμέσως μετά τον ντράμερ Phil Rudd ο οποίος απολύθηκε το 1983 και αντικαταστάθηκε από τον μελλοντικό Dio ντράμερ Simon Wright. Ο Phil Rudd επέστρεψε το 1994 (αφού ο Chris Slade κλήθηκε να εγκαταλείψει υπέρ του) και συνέβαλε με το 1995 στο άλμπουμ της μπάντας με τίτλο Ballbreaker. Το 1991 πραγματοποιούν ένα από τα καλίτερα τους live, και ένα απο τα καλλίτερα live στον κόσμο, στο Donington στην Αμερική.

Το επόμενο τους άλμπουμ κυκλοφόρησε το 2000 με τίτλο “Stiff Upper Lip” και έτυχε να έχει ευνοϊκή υποδοχής από τους κριτικούς. Πιο πρόσφατο άλμπουμ του συγκροτήματος, είναι το Black Ice, το οποίο κυκλοφόρησε στις 20 Οκτωβρίου 2008 και συνοδεύτηκε από μια τεράστια περιοδία μέσα στα πλαίσια της οποίας ήρθαν και για πρώτη φορά στην Ελλάδα. Από το 2008, οι AC / DC έχουν πουλήσει πάνω από 200 εκατομμύρια άλμπουμ σε όλο τον κόσμο, συμπεριλαμβανομένων 71 εκατομμύρια άλμπουμ στις Ηνωμένες Πολιτείες. Το Back in Black έχει πουλήσει περίπου 45 εκατομμύρια κομμάτια σε όλο τον κόσμο, καθιστώντας το υψηλότερο σε πωλήσεις άλμπουμ από κάθε ζώνη και το 2ο υψηλότερο σε πωλήσεις άλμπουμ στην ιστορία, πίσω από “Thriller” του Michael Jackson.

Το άλμπουμ έχει πωλήσει 22 εκατομμύρια μόνο στις ΗΠΑ, όπου είναι το πέμπτο κατά σειρά υψηλότερο σε πωλήσεις άλμπουμ. Οι AC / DC κατατάσσονται τέταρτοι στην λίστα του VH1 μέσα στους «100 μεγαλύτερους καλλιτέχνες του Hard Rock”  και η μπάντα πήρε το όνομά του έβδομου “Greatest Heavy Metal Band όλων των εποχών» από το MTV.  Το 2004, το συγκρότημα κατετάγη αριθμό 72 στη λίστα του περιοδικού Rolling Stone (το πιο καταξιομένο μουσικό περιοδικό στον κόσμο) των «100 μεγαλύτερων καλλιτέχνων όλων των εποχών”.

Ακόμα είναι μια από τις ελάχιστες μπάντες ανάμεσα σε group ή ακομα και ανεξάρτητους καλλιτέχνες που έχει την δικιά της οδό με τίτλο, φυσικά,  AC/DC Lane. Η “AC/DC Lane” είναι ένας δρόμος στη Βικτώρια της Μελβούρνης. Είναι ένα μικρό, στενό, που “κοιτάει” προς το νότο από το Flinders Lane μεταξύ Exhibition Street και Russell Street και βρίσκεται στην κεντρική επιχειρηματική περιοχή της Μελβούρνης.

So this has been the latest movie watching by me, courtesy of LoveFilm. I wasn’t entirely sure of what to expect really. I’ve read some of the books, and they were very funny. They were literally ‘laugh out loud’.

But the film was a bit weird. It didn’t portray the English weather very well, except for one rainy scene. But it’s meant to be rainy because it’s a sad scene. So it doesn’t count.

It was weird hearing all of the ‘Ace Gang’ lingo. It’s like how the write in magazines. That kind of ‘over the top girly’ language is fine on paper, but it just sounds cheesy when you say it. So the acting seemed a bit weird because of it. It almost felt like it belonged int he 90s, even though I was very sheltered during that decade so I don’t have a proper idea about what it was like. Then again, aren’t the books based on Louise Rennison’s actual diaries?

Putting all that aside, the guys in it were FIT.

I also recognised some of the actors. Like, the Dad (who was meant to hurt is foot from a geyser or something?) is that guy on QI. Robbie was in the TV series that played every afternoon for what felt like forever, called Feather Boy. I’m so certain he played the bully. I’ll check it out on Youtube, and Wikipedia.

Overall, I didn’t like the film that much. You don’t notice it as much in the books, but Georgia is a pretty big b*tch. Seriously, when I was 14 I knew better then that.
